Just finished the Baymax series AAAAAA my little crossover brain has ideas!!
Imagine Riley has a fall during a practice (like with the aunt Cass situation) and when the hockey team’s reserves are all absent, Baymax has to put on the largest pair of ice skates you’ve ever seen to try and take her place. Riley of course watches from the stands, finding the whole thing hilarious. Baymax’s team would obviously win but it would be by complete accident due to some wacky shenanigans. There could also be a message about kids who used to love the sport they’re trained in from a young age but feel burnt out due to growing up, school, home life or other stressful things and seeing Baymax trying his best reignites their passion to play.
Imagine Giulia crashes her bike on the way to school and Baymax has to not only help fix up her scratches and bruises but also fix her bike since she doesn’t have money for a tram ticket. Giulia is pretty adept at it but one of the parts is busted and she desperately needs a new one so Baymax ends up running around the city with her looking for it at various hardware stores. By the time the bike is fixed, it’s only a few minutes before homeroom. Luckily, Giulia is a fast rider.
Imagine Miriam (Turning Red) trips at the skate park and while she’s down a group of older kids steal her skateboard. Baymax realises how much skating means to Miriam and the two team up to get her board back. Of course, that means they end up in the middle of an impromptu skate-off where Baymax has to race against one of the older kids. Miriam gives him basic lessons (as well as him downloading how-to tutorials into his database) but he can’t quite get the hang of it until the last second. They do eventually get the skateboard back though and Miriam is excited to tell Mei, Priya and Abby about what happened.
Imagine Violet (Incredibles) struggling with social anxiety and one day Baymax notices and starts helping her. She slowly improves until she’s able to talk to other people in her class. Of course, it takes a lot of back and forth, Violet being argumentative and insisting Baymax’s help isn’t working but Baymax always pushes through and eventually she starts opening herself up more. She ends up making friends with Tony, Wilbur (Meet the Robinsons) and Camilo + Mirabel (Encanto) and the five eventually form a cohesive friend group. They even talk about starting a band together. Violet is really glad that Baymax was able to give her the first leg-up to get to where she is now, though Baymax insists Violet was the one who did the real work.
(Now to get into the AU side of things — this might actually play into the plot at some point)
IMAGINE Miguel’s powers starting to become less controlled. He doesn’t have to sing the ‘special song’ for them to activate and he finds himself partially turning into a skeleton at random times. At school, on the street, around his family etc… On one of these occasions, Baymax overhears him freaking out and finds him. Upon doing a scan, Baymax finds that what Miguel is going through isn’t in his database (besides the stress, of course) and this causes Baymax to have a mild existential crisis, especially when he can’t find supplementary information through downloading external sources. Miguel obviously plays it off and gets away from the situation as quickly as he can. Baymax starts acting out of sorts because he wasn’t able to come up with a way to help a patient and obviously Hiro ends up noticing eventually. Baymax relates his problem in a confidential manner (not revealing Miguel’s identity and such) which gets Hiro curious about the incident.
(AU notes: this would take place after Hiro and Miguel had had a huge falling out and hadn’t spoken to one another for months. The two won’t properly make up and become friends again until the Big Hero 6 and Magic Users accidentally bump into one another while on a rescue mission to save the child actress Penny (Bolt), who was kidnapped by Yama to use for ransom. It’s during this incident that Hiro finds out about the existence of Magic Users in the city.)

Luca - The Reveal Scene Analysis (SPOILERS)
I think one thing in Luca that made the moment of Alberto's reveal and Luca's betrayal so powerful is that it wasn’t contrived. I think what makes the Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure weaker in other stories is that the fight that breaks up the characters feels forced, and almost pointless considering the quickness with which they get back together. In Luca, it is a natural progression of the characters, where we can understand on a deeper level why this argument is taking place. It’s a culmination of Luca’s changing priorities clashing with Alberto’s insecurities.
Luca was in the wrong when he essentially turned on Alberto and feigned ignorance to avoid scrutiny. The scene certainly plays out like an “outing “ scene (even if you don’t interpret Luca as gay, that’s really what it was), and opened up Alberto to a ton of pain. Luca's main flaw is his fear; he wants to learn and explore the world, but his fear of exposure and discomfort comes into conflict with those things. He follows the lead of his parents, then Alberto, then finally learns to follow himself with his friendship with Giulia, which explores many of his true passions. Luca is defined by what others plan for him, and takes a back seat to the demands of others out of fear; fear both for his safety and fear of hurting those he loves. Alberto is perhaps the first person to make Luca want something different than what he's got.
However, Luca's meekness never quite goes away; he still becomes enamored by a status quo, by following what others tell him rather than what he himself wants. First it was his parents, and while he did make the choice of following Alberto, his new friend became the next biggest influence in his life. Despite how Alberto represents the freedom Luca wants, Alberto also is lonely and stubborn, and when Luca's ideals start to actually shift, Alberto takes it as a personal rejection of him.
Alberto and Luca's mom Daniela actually both represent two opposing forces in Luca's narrative; at first, Alberto's different lifestyle and adventurous spirit enables Luca's freedom and self discovery, unlike his mother who is restrictive and overprotective of him, but Alberto still reflects his mom in some ways. Like Daniela, once Alberto sees Luca changing in ways he doesn't like, Alberto tries to use the threat of danger and exposure to keep Luca from changing further when these changes go beyond what Alberto can handle emotionally. Both Alberto and Daniela are okay with Luca changing, but only in ways they are comfortable with—Alberto wants Luca to be at his side and encourages him to be braver and more outgoing but also fears losing Luca to anyone else and doesn't like Luca's shifting ideals, while Daniela was okay with the massive life change that is sending her son away to the Deep if it avoided the changes that came with him going away to the surface. Both assert that they know how the world is without actually being interested in hearing Luca's thoughts, and Luca realizing this is the point that both relationships end up in conflict. Both, at their most extreme moments, ignore how Luca feels but demand that he complies because of their bond with him (explicitly with Daniela, who pairs reminders that Luca knows she loves him with her increasingly restrictive behavior, and is at a loss when Luca chooses to run away instead; implicitly with Alberto, who relied on the assumed strength of his bond with Luca when exposing himself as a sea monster to try and force a wedge between Luca and Giulia, and feels betrayed when Luca does not follow his lead), and that is the point where Luca rejects their wants for his own wellbeing.
This also makes Giulia some kind of middle ground, in the sense that she has no high expectations of Luca. Giulia, like Alberto, is a peer who encourages Luca's interests, and, like Daniela, Giulia seems pretty enthusiastic about upholding a proper routine and encouraging Luca to do things correctly, (the whole training montage), but unlike either of them, she does not expect anything of Luca beyond friendship, as she already has her own support system (her parents), and, being a child, she has no such power over Luca to order him around. Daniela is motivated by being Luca's overprotective mother who, in the moment, was prioritizing her comfort of Luca's confirmed safety over his wants, while Alberto's loneliness and trauma makes him expect a greater deal of commitment from Luca than is realistic.
This is what drives him to side with Giulia over Alberto, basically taking the "easier" option of pretending to be a human rather than be honest and upfront with the truth. Luca's fear made him worried about challenging Giulia in the same way he rejected his mom's notion of him and, ultimately, how he challenges Alberto's, because of his wariness of humans in general. Rather than turn on Alberto, Luca should have been upfront with Giulia and explained everything so Alberto would realize she wouldn't feel any differently about them despite their differences, because, when she has a minute to calm down, Giulia proves to be very understanding of them.
However, in defense of Luca, Alberto forced the situation in the first place. Because of his growing envy of Luca and Giulia’s relationship, he basically tries to pull a ultimatum for Luca in this scene; either go to school and be friends with Giulia, or leave Portorosso with Alberto to travel the world. One or the other. Both of these choices each satisfy a specific goal of Luca’s; his desire for adventure and his desire to learn. However, the way Alberto pushes the situation - purposely scaring Giulia so that Luca sees her being scared of sea monsters, thus pushing him to side with Alberto out of fear of her retaliating - makes it clear that, to Alberto, the only "correct" choice would be for Luca to side with him.
He knows Luca fears exposure, but assumed he feared losing Alberto more, because that's how Alberto feels about Luca. He's shown twice in the film that, if his true form is revealed, Luca is still a higher priority, for better and for worse (the second example being the race, where, once he's revealed, he immediately reassures Luca and tries to fight Ercole). Hell, Ercole was throwing spears at him during this scene, but Alberto can only look heartbroken at Luca's reaction and barely notices being attacked.
But the thing is, the situation is nowhere near as urgent as Alberto made it out to be. It's a false dichotomy; who says that Luca and Alberto can't reach some kind of compromise? Why can't Luca go to school and drive the Vespa with Alberto? Why must the choice be one or the other? This whole argument wouldn't have happened at all if the two boys had been transparent with Giulia earlier, or at least if they'd talked about their feelings more openly between the two of them, and Alberto had just verbalized his jealousy. Instead, he lets it bottle up until it messes with his judgement and causes him to lash out. Alberto's own fears present the situation as if compromise is not a possibility so that Luca must choose one or the other, because what Alberto really wants is for Luca to pick him unambiguously to quell his insecurities about being unwanted or unlovable. Granted, this all stems from his own trauma about being abandoned, but still, it's a bit manipulative, even if I don't think it was intentionally manipulative (since Alberto is a kid and kids can be pretty irrational, just like Luca was being. I'm not trying to paint either kid as a villain).
Ultimatums rarely ever work, because, to the person giving the ultimatum, there is only really one choice presented that is satisfying in any way. Alberto presented two options in this scene, but he really wanted Luca to pick one specifically, and was opened up to rejection when Luca chose incorrectly. Alberto, unknowingly, was feeding into the same fear of human retaliation that Daniela had enforced in Luca his whole life, and that ultimately led to the betrayal.
Luca, throughout the film, has looked up to Alberto and followed his lead on everything, which is why I think this scene is shocking; We expected him to reluctantly side with Alberto and leave the town, so when he openly rejects that and "sides" with Giulia (who seems completely unaware that there are any "sides" to begin with, because this jealousy Alberto has is pretty one-sided and she sees both boys as her friends), Alberto, and the audience, is left shocked. Its Luca's independence from Alberto showing itself in the most heartbreaking way possible.
However, this is also what makes the reconciliation so powerful, too. During the race, we see both boys putting aside their gripes to help the other, and, while establishing their boundaries, ultimately give up something for the other, because they both realize that the other's happiness and safety matters more than their own fears. Alberto decides to help Luca to win the race, going against his own desires to just abandon the whole thing entirely and run away, because it matters so much to Luca. And Luca, finally, overcomes his fear of exposure even at the cost of his own safety (since Ercole now has no reason not to try and kill them), because to him, Alberto was truly worth exposure. Luca was willing to give up his dream to go to school to travel for Alberto, but Alberto gives up the Vespa for Luca. And, it makes too much sense for Alberto to convince Luca's mom to let him go to school; both of their developments involve loosening the reins and letting Luca follow his own path.

Image one: Luca and Alberto stand in the rain, looking happily into each other's eyes. Alberto holds an umbrella over the two of them, and Luca pulls Alberto close by his suspenders.
Image two: Giulia, soaking wet from the rain and carrying a suitcase, comes up behind them, saying, "Hey lovebirds! I'm home, too!" The umbrella tilts a bit, and the rain partially transforms the boys as they turn to Giulia, laughing.

Welcome to the Universe of SpiderLuca !! 🕷️🐠
Tumblr media
continue for an introduction of everyone, their story, and more!! 🫶
this is luca! aka SpiderStar-Fish 🌊🐠💫
Tumblr media
he's based off of - and was bitten by - a spotted fishing spider! (i won't put a picture for those afraid of spiders but feel free to look them up yourself)
his lighter, land suit is based off of his human form's shirt and the daytime sky. his darker, underwater suit is based off of his seafolk form and space.
this is giulia jane! aka luca's mary jane 💖
Tumblr media
this is alberto! aka SpiderDreamer 🌃🌟
Tumblr media
he's based off of - and was bitten by - a striped fishing spider!
his lighter, land suit is based off of his human form's tank top and his eye color. his darker, underwater suit is based off of his seafolk form. he has a hooded suit to resemble his tall hair and to parallel spidergwen's suit. this is to hint at alberto being luca's love interest and to acknowledge the parallels in his and gwen's stories.
so...what is their story?
luca paguro was bitten by a radioactive spider when he was 13 years old, and for the past 3 years... he hasn't been up to much..like at all. luca is *very* scared of being spiderman.
not to mention, his parents have a certain idea of his future that just.. doesn't include being spiderman. so for the past 3 years, luca has actively *not* been spiderman. if someone attacks portorosso, then so be it. he pretends not to care, because it's not his fault..right?
that is, until alberto scorfano shows up one day.
alberto scofano was bitten by a radioactive spider when he was 14, and for the past 3 years he's been trying, and failing, to be the spiderman his universe needs. alberto doesn't fit in his dimension as spiderman.
that's not to say alberto isn't a good spiderman! it's just..he seems to let his personal dreams and side-adventures get in the way of the *real* problems occurring around him. but he's still a good spiderman..right?
after the death of his father, alberto decides there's nothing left for him in a universe that doesn't care about him, and creates a one-time-use-only watch that allows him to travel to any universe.
luca doesn't know what to think when he sees a hooded, masked figure swinging through the streets of portorosso. is he not spiderman afterall? did his time run out since he's been idle so long and someone else is here to replace him? no, he's definitely still spiderman.
a few days pass of luca ignoring this new spiderman. he's doing a good job at keeping the town safe, and everyone is so glad to finally have someone to protect them. luca almost gets comfortable with using his webs just for recreational fun.
but this new spiderman isn't clueless.. he's been on the lookout for this universe's spiderman since the day he got there and when he finally finds him, he realizes why portorosso has been deserted of its spiderman for so long and decides to train luca on all things spiderman.
their training sessions proved to be very successful. luca is thriving as spiderman and he and alberto are making a great team. but alberto is disintegrating. he isn't meant to be in this universe and each glitch rubs it in more.
when luca finds out about this, he panics. he needs to help him. so when the spider society contacts him to join the society and explains how he would be able to visit any dimension without glitching if he did, luca knows what needs to happen.
through much convincing - "i wouldn't be spiderman if it weren't for alberto!" - luca convinces the society to accept alberto as their newest member instead and allow him to stay primarily in luca's dimension. being a member of the spider society provides alberto with the opportunities to chase his dreams in any dimension and gives him the sense of community he's been searching for. plus, with luca being able to keep portorosso safe all by himself, alberto gets to choose when to take on his spiderman duties vs spend time on his passion projects.
other info...!
luca's gwen is his childhood best friend. both their parents always assumed they would get married and luca did too until she died in front of him. he struggled a lot with what his life would look like without her since she was a major part in what he thought his future would be.
the dimension alberto asked his watch to go to was "a universe who needs me". it wasn't just portorosso who needed him :)
giulia jane meets luca and alberto during their first training session together, she doesn't see their suits or abilities but she does hear a large "CRASH!" behind her house and hurries them inside to tend to their cuts and bruises, eventually letting them stay for dinner too
(maybe more extra info to come! if i think of smth specific to add)
