hey mod sazsa! i have a question about facial differences — would the facial rash caused by lupus (butterfly or malar rash) be considered a facial difference? what about the rashes caused by discoid lupus?
thank you!
Hi !
Please keep in mind that I myself don't have lupus and just did research for this ask.
I would say that these all count, especially discoid lupus. Just from looking at images to see how it looks like, I found articles about people with lupus being harassed, bullied, or stared at for having rashes on their face which is like The Classic Experience of facial difference. Rule of thumb I (clumsily) use is that if you would benefit from face equality, it's probably a facial difference. It doesn't need to be a "major" condition that affects your whole face and it doesn't need to be permanent either. Neither of these classifiers are included in any definition I've ever seen. There's a lot of very common conditions that can potentially fall under the term - psoriasis, rosacea, even (severe) acne sometimes (I know of face equality activists for all of these things!). I have seen people with skin conditions be accused of being drunk (because of redness on the face) or having infectious diseases - which obviously sucks and I can imagine that could happen to someone with visible lupus as well. So if you feel like it does make your face different and face equality would make your life better then that's a very facial different thing to be.
Facial Difference is a very wide umbrella term for a reason - others generally don't like when someone has something "wrong" with their face even if it's a small thing and thus social problems can appear even if it's ""just" a rash". If you feel like the term fits you, it probably does!
I hope this answers your question!
mod Sasza (← the correct spelling. it's sasza, not "sazsa".)

Do you mind me asking what Ray and Unknown would do with an MC who has Discoid Lupus?
Ray understands very well what it feels like to have scars that you can't get rid of no matter how hard you try. His body is littered with bruises and scars from his past that he can't stand to look at because they make him feel like he's ugly. He fears that you won't look at him the same way if you realize he's covered head in toe in scars. If there was a chance you knew about his scars...
To him, a world of blemishes is a reflection of something traumatic. While it would be a relief to realize that you haven't got your scars and rashes from the same way he got his, it would still be hard to swallow. That has nothing to do with you, though. You're beautiful in his eyes no matter what you're going through or dealing with, but... him? He's insecure and paranoid about what you'll think of him.
Your butterfly rash doesn't phase him. He wants to smooth any out any inflamed skin with tender hands. The only misunderstanding he'd have at first would be the thought of, "Did someone hurt you in your life and cause that?" His knowledge of the medical world isn't grand or vast, so he's out of the loop on this.
His worst case scenario is realizing that there is a small chance that you could have suffered in the same way he has over the years, but when you explain to him it's your medical condition, things start to make a lot more sense to him. He doesn't know why you struggle like this, but he will work to educate himself for your sake. If there is only one thing he can do to help you, he'll learn how to do it.
If he can't do anything, he'll frown, but then realize that doing things for you doesn't mean trying to take the pain away... sometimes, that just means embracing you and reminding you how much he feels so lucky to be the person you adore. You adore him, right? He prays you do... because he won't let anyone hurt your feelings or heart again as long you're with him. He knows sun exposure might make things a bit harder... he'd gift you little things like hats and scarves to avoid burns and heat.
Unknown isn't phased by your condition. So, you have rashes that spring up from heat and stress now and again, who cares? He's got no reason to bring up your condition with you and as long as it does not get in the way of your work or his, he won't make a point of saying a word about it. His body is riddled with abrasions and scars, he has not reason to look at you in disgust or contempt for something that's out of your control.
He might not know the word for what you're dealing with, but that's par for the course. If something has nothing to do with revenge and victory, he hasn't bothered to learn about it. If you have a flare that's overwhelming and leaves you unable to move around without feeling the urge to scratch and claw at yourself, that's when he'd have to do something about it.
He can't have you writhing on the ground in pain for hours. It doesn't help anyone, and it certainly doesn't help him.
His compassion and sympathy for others is low, so there's not much you can expect from him as far as that goes. Worst comes to worst... the most he can offer you is something for the itching and water so you cool down. There's only so much he can access from the supply in Mint Eye. He doesn't have clearance to leave that often and when he does, there's only time for his job. So, he has to make due and try to offer what he can.
Don't expect much... the most he can offer you in the sun is his jacket to hold over your head.

#Repost @lupusdetroit ・・・ #Repost @stubs_disability_life ・・・ SCARS REMIND US THAT WE CAN HEAL.. This evenings 💡is Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel, better known as the platinum singing artist SEAL. Many of you, might have made the same assumption I have been making for years about Seal's scars. I had assumed that his facial scars were a symbol of his West Africa culture. As scars or facial marks can be used for identification of ethnic groups, families, individuals. Also to express beauty; his rank in society, family, clan, and tribe, and symbolize a degree of strength. (Now all this still might be true) But ..in my research this weekend I found out how Seal really got his scars. SEAL'S scars are as a result of a type of lupus called DISCOID LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS (DLE) – a condition that specifically affects the skin above the neck. DLE is a form of lupus that usually affects young people. Intense inflammation develops in the skin, particularly in sun-exposed areas. If not treated aggressively with sun protection and anti-inflammatory medicines, “Seal-style” scarring can result. Seal has revealed in interviews that he was afflicted with this syndrome as a teen. Not only did DLE cause Seal’s cheek scars, but he had significant scalp involvement, causing hair loss (#loclivin). Thankfully, the singer’s condition has been in remission for years, though his scars remain. However there is something that can be said, about the way Seal carries himself. The scars don't always appear as noticeable, but an inner beauty or 'soul' does. It reminds me that we are more than our illness, condition, DISABILITY or diagnosis. Also how our perspective on the world/people is affected by numerous assumptions. https://youtu.be/os3cKlkcBnA @seal . #seal #lupus #dle #discoidlupus #scars #marks #beauty #pride #assumptions #singer #perspective #scarsheal #revealbeauty #research #westafrica #autoimmune #disabilityawarensss #nigeria #disabilitylifecoaching #blackmen #lupusfighters #blackdisabledandproud #sunday #nocure #ggracces #strivingtowardunderstandingbarriers #lupusmen https://www.instagram.com/p/CewJRsYOWfZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hair Loss Data
I even went to a Psychologist for 5 months who was not able to find any psychological factors/triggers. The medicines that you simply guys have mentioned (mainly within the family of anti-depresseants) are given in a small dose to assist with the ache b/c the work on the nerves. Folital Review determined to not take these as a outcome of I worry about the long run results of such medicine. I even have also switched my birth-control however up to now no change. I went into with a constructive perspective that I was going to give it six months. Its been four months, my hair is much thinner, my scalp itches like crazy, I even have dandruff for the primary time in my life, and I even have dark coarse facial hair . Four weeks to 3 months after a excessive fever, severe sickness, or an infection, an individual may be shocked to see plenty of hair falling out. Childbirth – When a girl is pregnant, extra of her hairs shall be rising. However, after a girl delivers her child, many hairs enter the resting phase of the hair cycle. In people, hypervitaminosis A may end result from over-supplementation and has a strong identified link to hair loss with other results corresponding to skin, vision, and bone changes . Given the shortage of human research, it's shocking that some hair loss dietary supplements are marketed as containing selenium. This is concerning, as selenium toxicity from dietary supplementation is well documented [9–11]. Toxicity may find yourself in generalized hair loss, as well as blistering skin lesions, gastrointestinal symptoms, and memory difficulties. She did purchase some Nioxin shampoo, which she heard may help with thinning hair. And she commiserates with other COVID-19 survivors online. In uncommon cases, patients can develop chronic telogen effluvium, which lasts more than six months. If that's the case, a dermatologist may prescribe a drugs such as minoxidil or platelet-rich plasma scalp injections. A new, hair-sprouting dollop of human pores and skin created in the lab might in the future assist forestall hair loss. It is regular to shed a particular amount of hair every day. If hair falls out in additional vital quantities than traditional, it could trigger misery and fear. There are few reliable therapies, but the situation tends to enhance significantly with puberty, and some drugs might lead to fuller hair. Discoid lupus erythematosus is a type of cutaneous lupus, an autoimmune disease that affects the pores and skin. It can result in infected sores and scarring on the ears, face, and scalp. When scar tissue varieties on the scalp, hair can no longer develop in that area.

In Baltimore County, MD: Baltimore County Animal Services is urgently seeking rescue placement for Kane Max. Kane Max is a 9 year old, 60 pound, Husky that came to us as a stray, but his owners opted to surrender him.
Kane Max is a very friendly guy that is eager to greet people. He has shown neutral behavior towards other dogs. Kane Max does enjoy playing with toys as well and hasn’t shown any concerning behaviors while at the shelter.
During Kane Max’s examination, both of his testicles were found to be smaller in size and firm, which may be consistent with testicular tumors. Neutering and biopsy is recommended by your primary care veterinarian. Kane Max also exhibited a severe ulcerated, bleeding, painful nose. Possible causes for this include chronic rubbing on kennel/crate, exposure to an irritating substance, autoimmune disorders (such as Discoid Lupus Erythematosus, or DLE), neoplasia, etc. Please see your primary care veterinarian for further recommendations, diagnostics and treatment for these conditions.

homeopathic treatment for hair fall | homeopathy
Don’t worry, Homeopathy can stop hair fall.
Most people consider her fall as a simple cosmetic issue and find solutions with hair oil and shampoo that are available in the market. Those who are looking for the reason behind hair fall are the least. Most of them are spending lots of money and time buying expensive hair oils and shampoos. Sometimes there will be nutritive issues causing hair fall or serious health conditions that the body is expressing as hair fall. The fact is we should keep in mind that at first, we have to rule out the cause of the hair fall before running after hair oils and shampoos. And also we should accept if the reality is that the reason for the hair fall is not the same for all. So it is foolish to treat all patients having hair fall with the same kind of hair oil and shampoo. The treatment methods and medicines vary from patient to patient based on the cause. and the texture and thickness of hair are determined by our genetics so we cannot make our hair as those who are advising any hair oil or shampoo by the symbol, or external application of these kinds of hair oils and shampoo.
It is a fact that all features of our hair are decided by our genetics. It can’t be simply changed by using hair oils or shampoo. We can only make the hair healthier, as per our genetic factors with the help of proper treatment.

Dr Brad Yentzer: Types Of Skin Irritations And Allergies
Are you suffering from skin irritations or allergies? If so, then it is important to seek the help of an experienced and board-certified dermatologist like Dr Brad Yentzer. With his extensive experience in the field, Dr Yentzer can provide reliable diagnosis and treatment options for various kinds of skin conditions that cause discomfort or pain. In this article, we will look into different types of skin irritations and allergies, their causes, prevention tips as well as why seeing a board-certified dermatologist such as Dr Yentzer is essential for effective management.
Dr Brad Yentzer on Types of skin irritations and allergies
Skin irritations and allergies can range from mildly uncomfortable to extremely painful and itchy. Common types include eczema, contact dermatitis, hives, psoriasis, rosacea and fungal infections such as athlete's foot. Eczema is a skin condition that causes redness, itching, swelling and cracking of the skin. Contact dermatitis occurs when a person’s skin comes into contact with an allergen or irritant. Hives are raised red bumps on the skin that can be very itchy and cause discomfort. Psoriasis is a chronic condition in which the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells in the body, resulting in raised patches of dry skin called plaques. Rosacea is a common skin disorder characterized by red pimples or pustules on the face that may also involve flushing or blushing of the cheeks, nose and forehead. Lastly, Athlete’s Foot is a fungal infection caused by warm and moist conditions that affect mostly between the toes.
In addition to these common types of skin irritations and allergies, there are also many other lesser-known conditions such as perioral dermatitis which appears as a rash around the mouth or eyes; seborrheic dermatitis where an oily yellow scale appears on the scalp or ears; discoid lupus which causes disc-shaped lesions on various parts of the body; nummular eczema which results in coin-shaped scaly patches on arms, legs and torso; stasis dermatitis which usually shows up on lower leg due to poor circulation; scabies which consists of small bites caused by mites; cellulitis which involves swelling around an injury; pityriasis rosea where pinkish scaly patches form on chest area; neurodermatitis where thickened patches appear due to constant itching; heat rash which occurs after heavy sweating in hot weather; chloracne due to overexposure to chlorinated compounds such as PCBs; keratosis pilaris where rough bumps show up at hair follicles areas like arms or thighs: lichen sclerosus where thin white patches can appear anywhere including genitals.
For these conditions to be accurately diagnosed and treated effectively, seeing a board-certified dermatologist like Dr Brad Yentzer who has experience treating all kinds of skin conditions is important. He will perform a thorough physical examination followed by laboratory tests if necessary before administering treatment based on his expert professional opinion. Treatment options may include topical medications for mild cases such as hydrocortisone cream for rashes or ointments for infections, while more severe cases may require oral antibiotics or phototherapy sessions depending on individual needs.
Causes of skin irritations and allergies
The causes of skin irritations and allergies vary greatly, but some of the most common are environmental factors such as exposure to the sun, wind, extreme temperatures, humidity, certain chemicals and pollutants. Allergens may also be involved in triggering a reaction such as contact with certain metals or fabrics that contain formaldehyde. Irritants like soaps, detergents, perfumes and other fragrances can be a factor in causing an allergic response. Additionally, food allergies can also cause skin reactions in some people. Other medical conditions such as autoimmune disorders or genetic predispositions may also contribute to skin irritations and allergies.
The key to managing skin irritations and allergies is early detection and treatment. Prevention methods include limiting exposure to allergens or irritants by wearing protective clothing such as long-sleeved shirts and full-length trousers when out in the sun or cold weather; avoiding contact with any metal jewellery that could potentially cause an allergic reaction; using mild organic soaps for bathing; eating a healthy diet which helps maintain a strong immune system; and engaging in regular exercise which can improve blood circulation that keeps the skin healthy from inside out. In addition, consulting a board-certified dermatologist such as Dr Yentzer for proper diagnosis is essential for the effective management of these conditions. He can recommend the most suitable treatments based on individual needs after considering all possible causes of the condition.
How to prevent or reduce symptoms associated with skin irritations and allergies
One of the best ways to prevent or reduce the symptoms associated with skin irritations and allergies is to avoid exposure to environmental factors, allergens, and irritants that may trigger a reaction. This includes limiting sun exposure by wearing sunscreen and protective clothing; avoiding contact with chemicals, perfumes, and fragrances; using mild organic soaps for bathing; avoiding wearing jewellery that might contain metals such as nickel; eating a healthy diet that consists of foods high in anti-inflammatory properties like omega-3 fatty acids; engaging in regular exercise which can improve blood circulation and immunity; and taking supplements like vitamin D3 or probiotics which can help to strengthen the immune system.
In addition to avoiding triggers, it's important to manage any existing conditions properly. This may include using topical medications for mild cases or oral antibiotics if necessary. Phototherapy sessions may also be beneficial for more severe cases. Keeping skin clean and moisturized at all times is vital in preventing further irritation. Applying aloe vera gel or other natural remedies such as coconut oil on affected areas can also help reduce symptoms like itching or redness.
It’s advisable to consult a board-certified dermatologist such as Dr Brad Yentzer when experiencing any kind of skin irritation or allergy as he has experience treating all kinds of skin conditions effectively. He will perform a thorough physical examination followed by laboratory tests if necessary before administering treatment depending on individual needs.
Importance of seeing a board-certified dermatologist
Seeing a board-certified dermatologist like Dr Brad Yentzer is essential for properly diagnosing and managing skin conditions, allergies, and irritations. He has the expertise to assess any underlying factors that may be causing a reaction, such as environmental triggers, allergens, and irritants. He can then administer the most appropriate treatment based on individual needs after considering all possible causes of the condition.
It’s important to have an accurate diagnosis to ensure that the correct course of treatment is prescribed. This prevents further irritation or worsening of existing symptoms due to incorrect medications or treatments being administered. With Dr Yentzer’s expertise, he can provide personalized advice on how to best manage the condition through lifestyle changes such as avoiding certain foods or activities which could trigger a reaction; and prescribing topical creams or other medications if necessary.
Additionally, Dr Yentzer’s extensive knowledge in dermatology allows him to recognize various skin diseases early on before they worsen and significantly affect one's quality of life. Early detection often leads to better results as many skin conditions are more easily treated with timely interventions when compared with later stages. Thus, it’s recommended that individuals seek professional help from a board-certified dermatologist like Dr Yentzer if they are experiencing any kind of skin irritation or allergy so that suitable treatment options can be provided from the start.
