I can just imagine what an electrifying experience that would be. Apparently at some point during a past gig Madeleine got an audience member to pour water on her? 11. even though i have lived in a couple of the biggest cities in the world and adored them for what they are, i'm definitely a nature person and a "i like to live in the middle of nowhere" kind of person. which is basically what i do now haha.

i would definitely live on the Outer Rim by choice - and i even like the desert planets, Tatooine & Jakku. although, those two in particular are kind of crime havens, lol. so preferably nowhere where i could die for blinking. i even liked that planet in Rogue One, Jedha. not sure why SW always characterizes desert planets as full of crime and sketchy hmmm.....

planets like Coruscant and Naboo seem dope to visit, but i'd live on some uninhabited planet where i could build a meditative zen monastery. LOL i guess id be like Luke building his school (hopefully without the same ending).

but hard no to anywhere tundra cold (Hoth) or any ocean planets (Kamino, Mon Calamari) those are nightmares for me.

15. i have played Battlefront and all the Lego games! and i've sat there and watched @terriblygrimm play through the entirely Jedi Fallen Order! i love the sw video games.

Are you named after anyone?

No, but I’m often asked if I’m named after a location in a famous movie. I was not.

When was the last time you cried?

Two days ago. I’ve been struggling with an ulcer that just won’t heal and I woke up in horrendous pain and nausea on Saturday morning.

Do you have kids?

We do not. There’s a 25% chance of passing on my connective tissue disorder and sometimes it’s the fun “I’m so great at gymnastics!” kind and sometimes it’s the less fun “my brain won’t stay in my head” kind. I don’t want to put a child through all that.

What sports do you play/have you played?

I was a ballerina, gymnast, and soccer player until the injuries started becoming too frequent.

Do you use sarcasm?

Very rarely and even then only with people I’m very comfortable with (most notably my partner and my sister).

What’s the first thing you notice about people?

I’m not sure if there’s one thing I always notice. I’m pretty quick to pick up on moods, even with total strangers. So probably that. Their vibes 🙃

What’s your eye color?

Brown

Scary movies or happy endings comedies?

I used to love scary movies but I’ve noticed that as I age I have lower and lower tolerances for things like gore and screaming (especially screaming). I much prefer a comedy these days. Or a low stakes drama.

Any talents?

I had to ask my partner because I’m not good at these kinda questions. He said “interior design…like arranging stuff, and baking, and storytelling.”

Where were you born?

Literally like 2 miles away

What are your hobbies?

Video games, writing, baking, rearranging furniture in the middle of the night, reading, bird watching, crocheting, web design, quilting (I’m awful at this one but I enjoy it nonetheless)

Do you have any pets?

I have a basset beagle dachshund mix (unsure of the percentages) named Daisy Mayhem. See her Booplesnoot under the cut.

5’6”

Favorite subject in school?

I liked social studies in elementary school, English and Stats in high school, and my favorite class ever was biological psychology in college.

Dream job?

Freelance web design, if it could be 100% HTML and SASS based instead of JS. I hate JavaScript. My brain just doesn’t work that way.

Current: De Kat Die Bleef (English version: The Goodbye Cat*), by Hiro Arikawa; Het Achtste Leven (English version: The Eight Life), by Nino Haratischwili; King's Dragon, by Kate Elliott. Yes, that's three books. *weirdly, the Dutch translation is The Cat Who Stayed??

Recent: The Wise Virgins, by Leonard Woolf (who would be the first to agree his wife is the better writer); If an Egyptian Cannot Speak English, by Noor Naga was an amazing book and you all should read it, especially if you're interested in fiction with footnotes and/or in-book discussion of the book. And of course I'm on the Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi bandwagon. That was fun.

Future: I'm horrible at planning my reading, but my bookclub has To the Lighthouse scheduled for discussion early February. For @readnburied reading challenge I have tentatively put down Claire Heywood's Daughters of Sparta as my book about princesses. I've also heard that Sofia Samatar and Nisi Shawl have books coming out this year!

Are you staying home from work/school? Sort of. I do several things part time throughout the year, and a bunch of that stuff (like summer camps/programs etc) got completely cancelled. Some things filled the gaps, but overall it was a lot more like being fired for the year. 🙈 And we're still not quite back, with that, particularly with an international summer gig I was expecting which is Also not gonna happen this year too. 🙈 (In this case the frustration is because I absolutely understand and agree with why it's not going down, but we're literally also seeing a resurgence of the troubles in Belfast, which is exactly what the fuck we said was going to happen after Brexit, and one of the programs I work with is involved in attempting to deescalate sectarian tensions between youth, etc, so like, this would be a great time to be planning that for this summer... Siiiiiiigh)

If you’re staying home, who is with you? Mostly my brother and I, three big dogs, and an inappropriate number of plants. Several new gardens have developed in the backyard and I'm pretending I don't know how that happened. XD

Are you a homebody? Yup. I mean, I definitely used to get out for non-work-related reasons far more than I do, but yeah. Could be a lot worse. Definitely I haven't minded the bulk of the not-going-places.

An event you were looking forward to that got cancelled? Summer employment. But also, my very close friends and I were planning a road trip and a week of hanging out in an Airbnb with a trip to a Renaissance festival we've never been to before in the middle, towards the end of last summer, which obviously did not end up happening, both because the festival itself wisely decided to shut down, and because, without vaccination yet at that time, we knew it was unsafe to be in a car together for 12 hours, even if we could have done a reasonable job of keeping ourselves safe from Other people once we were where we were going.

What movies have you watched recently? Hm. I don't watch a lot of movies, but I did watch the live stream of the taping of the 2012 UK arena tour for Jesus Christ Superstar, which is quite possibly my favorite run on that musical. Delightful. Also I think I watched Muppet treasure Island the other day. Also delightful. XD very nostalgic. XD

What shows are you watching? SGA with some excellent folks on discord. MASH and sometimes Naruto in my downtime when I just need something to fill the silence or kill a little time. Oh, sort of The Hexer with @badwolfbadwolf which I expect we will get back to when there is a little more time this summer. Also the occasional episode rewatch for Teen Wolf so I can chat with @ligeiasand about them. XD 💚💚💯💯💯💯

What music are you listening to? Last week was a lot of Jesus Christ Superstar. XD this week has been The decemberists and the Longest Johns. And of course the Amazing Devil is never far away, nor is Laura Jane Grace and Against Me. 💚💯💯💯

What are you reading? just finished Andrew Seidel's the Founding Myth: Why Christian Nationalism is Un-American, which was good, if obviously written by a lawyer. XD he gets into discussions about the degree to which Christianity did or did not influence the foundations of American government (spoiler: it didn't, except as an example of the way they did Not want to run their government), and also the ways that the myth or lie that this is or should be an explicitly Christian Nation have been constructed over the years and decades in moments where leaders and politicians saw an opportunity to encode their private believes into public structure, and finally how all that fed into the last guy's presidency over here, and eventually the insurrection on January 6th. I'm about to start either These Divided Shores by Sarah Raasch (I had mixed feelings on the first one but I'm hoping the second one will improve on it) or The Black Prism by Brent Weeks.

What are you doing for self-care? brushing dogs, being up to my elbows in dirt, playing Pokemon go. XD

No pressure as always <3

1. I have a basset/dachshund (possibly beagle?) mix who owns my soul. She’s my ride or die.

2. My current hobby is digital planning. I’ve even started digital notebooks for all my stories and my online classes.

3. I love to bake anything and everything, but I find cooking an absolute chore.

4. Even though I listened to thousands of songs in high school, I can’t help but be transported back in time whenever I hear “Bring It (Snakes on a Plane)” by Cobra Starship. It always triggers a memory of flying down the back roads in my car, on my way to spend the weekend with my best friends.

5. Despite living in cow country USA I’ve never worn a pair of cowboy boots.

6. I’m still driving my first car and will be shattered when it finally gives out.

7. I’m in the middle of redesigning the loft (where my work desk is). I literally cannot wait until my new desk and shelves finally arrive. i’m going for minimalism (so it will be easy to clean), but I will curate the best selection of trinkets so it doesn’t feel corporate and soulless.

8. I cry incredibly easily. I cry when I have a dumb argument with a friend, I cry when I get mad or mildly irritated, I cry when I accidentally add an extra tablespoon of sugar to my cookie recipe. One time, I even cried because both basketball teams couldn’t win. I don’t even like basketball. It’s incredibly frustrating.

9. If I lived in a bigger city, I think I would’ve gone into interior design. But my spouse and I didn’t want to move, and even if we had, life had other plans for me.

10. Despite being in my 30s, my favorite snack is still cinnamon toast with chocolate milk.

Nightmare of the Wolf Watchalong party Monday!

So, Monday the animated series about young Vesemir drops. Which calls for a watchalong party!
