Our special collections has seven of his books from the late 1950s to early 1960s, including This is San Francisco (top), This is Rome (2nd from top), This is Venice (middle), This is London (2nd from bottom), and This is New York (bottom). And all of This is... work of this Prague-born artist was reprinted in 2003...

INFLUENCES:

At the start of the MA i curated a selection of Picture Book makers to remind myself on how diverse visual language is and how important it is to investigate different mediums and techniques while on the course.

In this selection are illustrators spanning across the last 80 years. I find it essential to look at colour, composition and technique, and lastly to observe the relationship between image and text from other artists and illustrators.
