How to: Build a podcast protagonist
Make a Guy. The scrunglier the better.
Pour in an ounce of survivors guilt.
Pour in the rest of the container of survivor’s guilt.
Give them a gay little romantic subplot.
Tragedy.
Trauma.
Compounding trauma.
Eye motif.

Sexiest Podcast Character — Eye Bracket — Round 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda
Jonathan Sims/The Archivist (The Magnus Archives):
I just think it'd be funny if an asexual character won
(im ripping this from the wiki btw) John has prematurely greying hair and looks older than he is. He often looks very tired and is physically unfit, as other characters refer to him as scrawny and he tires easily from physical tasks that others perform with little exertion. he also has lots of scars.
(propaganda, spoilers for The Magnus Archives) He's a wet cat and at one point dated Georgie Barker and does date Martin Blackwood. there is also a whole tag/movement for "hot Jon rights". he may not be like, 10/10 on the attractive scale but his far off gaze has captivated me
Mari Datuin (Hi Nay):
Short, curvy, adorable
Mari is Filipino, which means despite her warm exterior, she's got the deep, unrelenting trauma of a Pinay who left the Philippines during the Duterte era.
She loves milk tea and casually knows how to exorcise ghosts, she gets to sing in a musical episode, she's still close with her ex-girlfriend while pining over a clueless detective, there's at least two incredibly beautiful women she's ready to fist fight at a moment's notice, and there's something deeply wrong with her that isn't immediately apparent.
Also she loves her Nanay (mom) very much and calls her all the time.
If you believe she isn't 5 feet of incandescent rage in a cute and friendly package, then I absolutely recommend checking out Hi Nay to see where she goes 💖
(I think it's very important to note that Mari is 5 feet tall and all her friends are in the 6 foot range and that will never not be funny to me as a Filipina)
VOTE MARI! And if you're not sure why... Perhaps listen to Hi Nay 😉

Mari Datuin is one of the characters of all time. she’s friends with her ex. she’s pansexual. she’s a babaylan. her best friends are two homicide detectives and one very tall lesbian. she doesn’t swear and I respect that, but rarely have I met a character who deserves to say fuck more than she does. she calls her mom every week. she’s fully aware that she’s in a horror story, but that will not stop her from picking up the Cursed Amulet. all her friends are taller than her. she’s even fat.

New episode!!
- I like how the stories are more narrated again, it’s way easier to know what’s happening in the story.
- The way DJ describes Mari, as so powerful and sure of what she’s doing, if they only KNEW
- The gang’s backstories???? Exploding
- Generally I really liked it, it was a good summary of some stuff that happened after the pause between the acts. Also it had Evelyn so it’s automatically good.

Gertrude Robinson (The Magnus Archives):
A lady with a mission. Ruthlessness personified. There never has been a problem she couldn't solve with quick thinking and some C4, until there was. She used to be able to torch a building in half the time. You might have seen her in a dream, she might have seen you too: watch out.

Hi Nay - A Queer horror fiction podcast with a Filipina immigrant lead and a BIPOC majority main cast
Hi Nay, literally translated to “Hi Mom”, is a supernatural horror fiction podcast about a Filipina immigrant Mari Datuin, whose babaylan (shaman) family background accidentally gets her involved in stopping dangerous supernatural events in Toronto.
The title, Hi Nay, refers to the phone calls in which Mari calls her Nanay (mother) and tells her about her supernatural misadventures.
I wanted to thank everyone who’s been following this podcast since 2020, and those who’ve just recently discovered it, and everyone inbetween. Every single one of you has supported our tiny, tiny independent production in so many ways.
If you’ve never heard of us but wanna try out this horror podcast with a lo-fi sound, a Filipina lead, a mix of monologue and dialogue and a lot of supernatural terror, then give us a shot! We were primarily inspired by the Magnus Archives when we first started, but have hopefully come into our own, though fans of the creepy horror fiction podcasts we also love are welcome to join the party.
You can support us by listening over on Acast, becoming a Patron, donating to our Ko-Fi, or just telling everyone about our show!
Here’s some art, commissioned from the amazing @paperzombiie a while back, of our lovely protagonist Mari Datuin!
