Title: Sinking Jaws
Fandom: FE8
Ship: joshua/marisa/gerik
Rating: t
Word Count: 1020
Summary: “You’re like a lioness,” Joshua says.
“Is that a compliment?” says Marisa.
“From Joshua, you never know,” says Gerik. “But I think you’re supposed to want it to be.”
Marisa’s like a machine. Joshua isn’t one to make such a crude, obvious comparison; it’s Tethys who does, words flowing from her mouth the way her silks do when she dances.
“Don’t you think?” she adds, gesturing with her head like Joshua doesn’t already see Marisa.
She sticks out in a bar like a bloodstain on a white tapestry, like new coins against a rainy gutter. Her posture is straight, her expression serious, pointed forward, hand nowhere near her sword but with her that doesn’t mean shit. She’s no machine; her hand has five thousand ways of getting to that sword in less than a second, and she won’t always choose the most efficient, just the one that is enough. A clock tower spins its gears; a trap shuts its jaws on the pressure. Marisa is more of a predator herself, the trap’s mouth a crude facsimile of hers.
“No, actually,” says Joshua.

Chapter 12 Part 7: The guild is guild-ty
So we're going to clear out some enemies around Marisa and then try to have Ewan talk to her. Here's a Franz level up.
And a Neimi level up! Just one more and she can reclass.
And even a L'Arachel level up!
Oh god, give me a break, L'Arachel...
The mummy guys do such goofy attacks. They just kind of slam their full bodies forward. I think they must have been referring to this with how the Risen attack in Awakening too.
Marisa doesn't seem to move even if the units near her move, and Ewan, with only 4 move, has to talk to her. So you kind of have to let her attack someone to get her close enough to talk to.
Unlike with Joshua, the concern is not that she'll kill someone, it's that someone might kill her on the counter. She's not that tough.
Like, Franz took out more than half her health with one hit.
(Also, I thought the timing of this shot was funny. Maybe Franz and Marisa called the fight quits and went off to the bar over to the left.)
So after letting Marisa attack Franz, we finally have Ewan close enough to talk to her.
E: "Ah, Marisa, I found you!"
Ewan confirms with her, "You came here on the mercenary guild's instructions, right?"
E: "I was told you were going to do a job with Captain Jist."
M: "Yeah, but the captain's not here."
E: "There's been a mistake. The captain got a different job, not this one."
E: "These people are also going east, so how about going with us until we find the captain?"
Marisa is...not a great unit. She shows up late, at a low level, and her stats generally aren't as good as Joshua's. And he's had plenty of time to train at this point.
Well, except that I got Joshua killed, so I guess maybe I will use Marisa. She's pretty anyway. :)
With Marisa on our team, Tana cleans up the last skeleton and gets a level up, which I miss, so here's her stat screen instead. She's at level 10, so she can reclass now!
And now it's time for our favorite part of every map, bullying the boss!
This guy doesn't even have a throne, so he won't heal.
Here's what the cyclops looks like in battle.
Hmm, 3 times 2 damage, huh? We can make that happen!
Marisa has a decent crit chance, but I decide to try to get the boss down to 6 HP so that she doesn't need to rely on a crit.
I check out Vanessa's attack, but I don't like the 9 crit chance she has.
I don't remember why, but I wait another turn and then have Neimi attack again.
Ross tries...and fails.
Cormag does a good job.
And Tana is weak enough to set things up nicely for Marisa!
Wow, look at Marisa one-round the boss in her join chapter! What an amazing unit!
And she did the HP and luck thing on level up that I love so much!
Next time: Where's Myrrh?
