General thoughts/ideas on Sweet?
Clearing out my inbox and saw I missed this! Sorry!
Sweet is a strange character in Survivors. Due to the shoddy writing, she ends up treating Lucky extremely cruelly and yet somehow he still hold affection her at the end to sire her pups by next arc? If I were treated by my crush the way Lucky was treated by Sweet, I'd go for greener pastures. She has astounding potential tho.
First things first, Redux!Sweet gets a breed change. Greyhounds are too skinny and thin to be able to live without human assistance. One bad injury and she'll be dead by week's end. So she's changed to be a much hardier breed that can withstand Northern California while still keeping her a sighthound: a wolfhound. She could be a mix with strong wolfhound influences, but she's primarily a wolfhound.
Redux!Sweet retains her canon backstory of "I used to be in a pack but then I got caught", but she flees northward after departing from Lucky. She bumps into the Wolfdog's pack, and the two are extremely wary of one another. Sweet feels pity for the dogs under his rule, and plots to undermine the Wolfdog and usurp him herself. She plays the part of supportive second-in-command because she's trying to stay on his good side to blindside him in the future. Upon seeing Bella's potential for leadership, she ropes her into her plans, setting her up to become second-in-command if she becomes boss, or to carry out the rest of her plans if something were to happen to her.
She still treats Lucky pretty badly, though not out of malice. She's deep in character, and if she gets too friendly with Lucky, the Wolfdog is going to treat her poorly too. Lucky's pretty hurt by her treatment of him, and his ideal of her is shattered to the point he doesn't want to be romantically involved with her anymore by story's end. They do make up, don't worry, but it's not the same.
Upon becoming the boss of the OG wild pact, the pet pact, and Twitch's pact, she makes movements to get the dogs more independent from one another and turn them back into a proper pact, or rather trio of pacts. Martha and Lucky are given more importance as oracles of the Waters and the Earth respectively, and she teaches Bella and Twitch how proper leadership is done for dogs.

while reading your pinned post I noticed you said you occasionally drew survivor dogs, and I was wondering: who is your favorite dog and what do you think of the series as a whole?
I’ll be honest this is kinda cool for me bc I’ve never seen anyone ever really mention that series and anytime I couldn’t get my hands on a warriors book as a kid I resorted to survivors. while I never got as into the series as one of my old friends did, I’d say it wasn’t bad, my favorite dog was definitely Moon. (and that’s going off of very distant 5 year old memories)
oohhh man probably martha! she's super interesting :) i love her personality so much from what ive read (i havent finished the series :'( cant find arc 1 books 6 :( ill find in eventually, may order it) its been pretty good!! all of the characters are pretty cool, most are pretty well written and the story in genuinely interesting! this is a suuuuper little stupid thing tho that i have with survivors, but i wish there were more interesting dog breeds :P most of them are ones most people (or at least me) have heard of before so its a littttle uninteresting. also sucks that the majority of one of the villains groups (the fierce dogs) are all doberman pinschers WHICH isnt particularly a bad thing but god is it boring :/ hoping i can get more of the books soon and keep reading! ik there are pdfs out there but i dont like reading those

Lois & Clark: the New Adventures of Superman (a super-powered rom-com)
youtube
(Thanks to Omar David)
[All images are owned by DC Comics and Warner Bros Discovery. Please don’t sue me]
I would like to start by saying it must be extremely difficult to write for any media where Superman is involves, whether comics, TV, movies, books, radio, etc. I mean, the guy is stupid-strong, stupid-invulnerable, stupid-fast, and has a metric shit-ton of powers that put him leagues ahead of anyone he might square off against.
Therefore, you have a few options:
Create adversaries on his power level (like DC did with Doomsday in The Death of Superman), but then you have an opponent that’s on Superman’s level that the rest of the lineup will have to deal with.
Give him an opponent who works behind the scenes who undermines his image and confidence (and might be able to tweak his nose a few times as well), which is why Lex Luthor exists. However, without giving Superman  someone to punch, the readers will get bored after a while.
Give him some very specific weaknesses (such as a certain green rock), but you can’t have Kryptonite constantly showing up to Save The Day for the bad guys.
Make it more about the human side than the super side. However, much like my second option, people are eventually want to see the hero just punch things.
Make it campy (see Superman III and IV), and you can watch those films to see how horribly wrong that can go.
...which bring us to Lois & Clark. The show (thankfully) didn’t make a powerful adversary (or at least they gave themselves a way to remove the threat from the series the few times they did), but ticked the other four boxes (though to be fair, there’s no way they could NOT use Kryptonite in some way)
This was the first time we saw a post-Crisis on Infinite Earths version of Superman (as originally depicted by legendary writer/artist John Byrne in 1986) on screen, and there were a ton of changes...
His core powers were somewhat diminished from the Silver Age
A lot of his more absurd powers (such as destroying planets with a sneeze, rebuilding the Great Wall of Chine with his vision, and his “amnesia kiss”) were gone
He knew nothing about Krypton save that he was originally born there (the Silver Age Superman was constantly referencing Krypton)
He was the sole survivor (no Supergirl, General Zod, or Krypto the Super Dog)
His costume wasn’t made of Kryptonian fabric (meaning it was also invulnerable, but just normal fabric (which, thanks to an “aura” around Superman, meant it stayed intact through most of his battles, though Byrne loved to draw the cape getting torn in every fight!)
In the comics, the S-symbol was made after the Daily Planet coined the phrase “Superman” following his first public appearance, as opposed to being a Kryptonian relic.
And, most importantly, Martha and Jonathan Kent were alive and well in Smallville (in the Golden and Silver Ages, Pa Kent died when Clark was a teenager)
Most of these elements remained for Lois & Clark, though the writers reverted the S-Symbol to being from Kal-El’s rocket.
But enough of the exposition, on to the meat of the series!
Tumblr media
The show follows Clark Kent (played by Dean Cain, who would return into Kryptonian orbit a number of years later as Supergirl’s adopted father), intrepid reporter for the Daily Planet (in a time where newspapers were a hell of a lot more relevant than they are now) and his alter ego...
Tumblr media
...Superman. I should note that when we first see Clark (before he even has the iconic costume of his alter ego designed for him by his mother) he’s already wearing glasses. Exactly why is he doing that if he has no alter identity to conceal?
Tumblr media
And what is Clark Kent/Superman without Lois Lane (played by Teri Hatcher)? Cain and Hatcher had awesome chemistry as friends/rivals as well as able to play the “will they/won’t they” tension very well (at least until they actually did)
The pair’s first meeting with Clark “in costume” was...kind of explosive.
youtube
(Thanks to DJDoena)
But the Daily Planet is more than just Lane and Kent (as much as they seem to hog the front page), so rounding out the Planet’s staff (at least the ones in the opening credits) are...
Tumblr media
...Daily Planet Editor in Chief Perry White, who is Metropolis’s biggest Elvis fan...
Tumblr media
...and Perry’s gopher (and later staff photographer) Jimmy Olson. However, the producers thought the actor looked a bit too much like Cain...
Tumblr media
...so he was replaced in season 2.
Tumblr media
Also a casualty in season 2 was Society Pages columnist Cat Grant. The producers felt the character was a bit too “risque” for their target audience (often rumored to be sleeping with fellow staff members) and she didn’t return after season 1.
Tumblr media
As I mentioned earlier in this review, Martha and Jonathan Kent are alive and well (and apparently Smallville is close enough to Metropolis that they occasionally make trips there) Jonathan is a down-to-earth kinda guy while Martha is constantly trying to expand her horizons (usually with a new hobby every week...
youtube
(Thanks to Guardian Images)
...including sewing)
But what is Superman without a great villain...
Tumblr media
...and he got a hell of one with Lex Luthor (played by John Shea). One other HUGE change in the Superman mythos was to Luthor. After Crisis he drastically changed from a “FOOLS! I WILL DESTROY YOU ALL MUHAHAHAHAHA!”-type mad scientist to a brilliant (and thoroughly corrupt) industrialist who would bend the legal system to keep his hands clean despite some blatantly obvious criminal activities (and managed to thumb his nose at Superman every time), and he was written to perfection in season 1. However, due to scheduling conflicts, he was written out with panache...
youtube
(thanks to ScreenBlaster13)
However, this being super-heroes, he came back from the dead for a couple of guest appearances.
The tone of the show was kept light, bordering on silly at times (such as casting Sonny Bono as mayor (and having him constantly dropping Sonny & Cher lyrics in his speeches) or having an episode where prohibition-era gangsters are cloned and allowed to run rampant in Metropolis) While Superman was a big part of the series, the fact that he was almost an afterthought in the show’s title should show where the real focus of the show was.
For two seasons, the show centered on the rivalry and budding relationship between Lois and Clark, then in season 3 the romance really kicked into gear, culminating in their marriage. Unfortunately, by then the series was starting to unravel, completely coming apart by the time the series was cancelled at the end of season 4.
As always, if you would like to say a particular episode reviewed, please let me know!

but where's our third wheel?
Funerals were bad enough. Funerals for "two young, promising lives cut tragically short" were even worse. To Jack Halley, who was the reason they were dead, it was shaping up to be the worst day of his life.
His massive Irish wolfhound Gelert, on the other hand, had no concept of bad days or funerals. Or survivor's guilt, for that matter. He was a miniature horse-sized mass of excitement and loyalty, and he was currently getting his wiry gray hairs all over Jack's nice, black suit.
"Thanks, Gellybean," Jack muttered as the dog covered his face in slobber. "I wish I could hang out with you today." He scratched behind the massive hound's floppy ears and sighed. "But I have to go, so paws off, alright? I'm serious."
Jack stood and tried to brush himself off. He hadn't been paying attention to the way the damp grass of his back lawn had left the knees of his slacks wet, but he knew his father would let him hear about it later. Jack strode to the old moss-covered oak where a tire swing hung from one of the lower branches. Thousand-mile staring past the powerlines that ran parallel to his street, Jack pushed the swing back and forth as Gelert nosed the back of his knee and whined.
"Yeah, I know, I should quit stalling. I don't need you to guilt-trip me," Jack told the dog before his mother appeared at his side with a lint roller and his new prescription.
"You're right, but you know it would probably help if you took these, right?" Martha Halley asked him, already rolling any trace of Gelert off his suit and tie.
Jack tossed the bottle of pills from one hand to the other and sighed. "Pills aren't going to change the fact that they're dead."
"No," Martha said and stroked his dark hair back from his eyes like curling it behind his ear had ever kept it from revolting before, though the streak of white was new, "but someday I'd like to see you get out of that dark place you've been sitting in since that night. Is that so much to ask?"
"No ma'am," he whispered and stooped to let her kiss his cheek. Raising his eyebrows at her, he tried for a smile, gave himself a quick once-over, and gestured towards to house. "Ready to go?"
"As I'll ever be." Martha folded her hands in front of her black dress.
Jack wasn't even aware his mother owned an article of black clothing before that day. She lived in vibrant colors, her makeup, her clothes, her nails. She'd been a real estate agent for twenty-six years, and she dominated the market of Asphodel Meadows since she'd married his father and moved into the area. Her trademark was her palette like something off an arcade floor from the eighties.
Seeing her dressed for a funeral, that one stupid detail, struck Jack with the realization of what had happened. It seemed ridiculous. The nightmarish memories of that night, the scattered remains of his friends, the full police investigation that followed. Surely all of that should have been enough for it to sink in.
That and the fact that half the town thought he was crazy for believing a person had ripped his two best friends apart when the police department had concluded that it had been an animal attack. It had landed Jack in therapy, with a rattling yellow bottle of pills to take twice a day, and healing scar on his right arm that he couldn't explain away.
"No reason to delay the inevitable, I guess," he rubbed the back of his neck and gave Gelert one last pat on the head. "Let's get to it."
