Derek watched Wes from across the room, idly studying the Rebel. He was... interesting. Bright and lively, even though they had lost. Failure wasn't a feeling he was familiar with and it tasted sour in his mouth but they... none of them were punished. He had been here too long to escape it. The Rebels didn't discipline their forces, not like Intelligence did anyway.

Pity that he would destroy them.

Derek watched Wes laugh and felt a stir of want fill him. He wanted him to laugh for him, shine some of that light his way. Maybe he'd indulge in his cover a bit. Decision made, Derek stood, crossing the room and joined Wes and the rest of the Rogues, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and indulging in a casual touching they all did.

Maybe he'd be allowed to keep Wes for himself once they were taken care of.

No, we call postcards postcards! 

What I’m talking about was something else that was called a lettercard.  I don’t know if they do them anymore, but basically it was two or more postcards joined up together, folded over to go in the post, and long enough to write a letter rather than a note on the back.  That’s why it’s the only letter that survives in my family - it wasn’t paper, and it went into someone’s postcard collection.

My great-granny sent it from Devon back to London, where my great-granddad was still working while she and their daughter went down to meet her prospective daughter-in-law for the first time.  She was an East Ender, so I don’t think she had ever been so far away from London before.

This is what she wrote on it, probably around July 1943:

Dear Will,

               We are still having a lovely time, we went to Ilfracombe yesterday and want to go again tomorrow if weather is alright.  We have not had much sunshine down here, but still we have been getting about though it is very showery, the country around here is simply grand.  I shall never forget this holiday.  Win thinks so too, she went so excited when she got to Ilfracombe, it was all so grand there, this is w[h]ere you can see the beauty of England for it is all hills with green fields, you would like it here I know, Well Dear Queen* is having her weeks Holiday Aug. week the same as you, so I’ve invited her up to London & she was ever so pleased about it she says she loves coming to London, have you heard from Albert yet, only he has been moved to Chichester in Sussex he seems ever so upset about it.  Glad to hear all are well but not about the warnings, it’s nice hear not to think about them but we have our planes over all day & ever so low over the housetops. I was a contributor for the "Between Heists" Lupin the Third fan book! Maybe it was a weird call for me to draw instead of write. Sometimes, you've gotta shake things up, right?

I ended up contributing five pieces. Our suggested limit was four, so I figured this would give a good selection in case room was needed to be made and something had to go. All five made it in, though! Hell, one's even cropped on the cover!

Thoughts/explanations:

Who was gonna do video game stuff if I didn't? 😅 I suppose it should have been based on Sega consoles instead, but I think this reads easier to American audiences. (The black velvet painting is based on a piece I have in my house that I found at a county fair.)

This piece of Goemon at his ancestor's monument was the first piece I made. It shows up one time in "The Woman Called Fujiko Mine", but the kanji on it appears to be wrong. Turns out that the first Goemon Ishikawa earned the postmortem name of 融仙院良岳寿感禅定門. So, I tried to at least get some of it on there.

@jeannettegray lamented the series' lack of cornetto breakfasts in Part 4, so that's where the "Italian Breakfast" came from. Fanworks are sometimes about fixing holes, right? (Naturally, I thought the "American Dinner" made for a good complimentary piece.)

I think it's fair to say a lot of sweat and tears went into this project. Thank you again @tabbiewolfreblogs for spear-heading this and to @maryellencarter for proofing/editing!

Imagine, an Arospec Dating Sim

Where each of the love interests are a different arospec identity, and the game paths explore these identities by having the player navigate relationships with them

From the start of the game, the frayromantic is in the corner with a clear crush on you, but by the time you get around to introducing yourself and starting to bond, their crush is fading and their game path is platonic or queerplatonic

The lithromantic character's path begins as a romance, that changes to be queerplatonic by the end

In the aroflux character's path, their identity fluxes for each dating scene and your interactions in that scene reflects that - sometimes its a sappy romantic date, sometimes its a platonic hangout date

The player has a crush on the recipromantic, who's been pretty neutral on them up until now. When the player confesses, the recipromantic begins to feel attraction and so they agree to date

In the demiromantic path, you bond platonically with them for a while until the ability to romance them unlocks. (This path could also potentially be the "bonus path" of the game, only unlocking after you beat the game, making you bond with them in the background of other paths multiple times until you can unlock the romance option with them)

The greyromantic's path makes clear that you are one of their few, if not their only, crush in their lifetime, and the path shows them navigating these romantic feelings that they aren't used to

The cupioromantic path features a cute fluffy romance but without the romantic tension

The quoiromantic path features an unlabeled comitted relationship with them. They show confusion again and again over which label their feeings toward you may fall into, but in the entire path its not important to figure out nor invalidated. The relationship and interactions follow whatever feels most natural, not worrying about putting labels on them or following certain tropes.

(There's more arospec identities out there, but I can't think of any ideas for them, so if you have any feel free to add on!)

"If it went the “Demiromantic Path Is The Bonus Path” route, it’d be cool if that character had a Sans Undertale kind of deal. They remember you and their bonds with you from the previous paths. So despite seemingly just meeting them, they already bonded enough with you to fall in love.

(Which adds a new layer to your relationship with them. Be still my Ficto & Aego heart…)

Which makes me think…

It’d be super meta to have a Fictoromantic side character that in-series plays dating sims.

As for an Aegoromantic… Maybe a side character friend? The Shipper on Deck trope?

Also! Each character has to have the color scheme of their respective arospec pride flag. Maybe also wear their pins?

And absolutely have them use the terminology at some point in each of their paths."

I'd definitely suggest including a "baseline" aromantic path, either aroace or aroallo or both, or another variant. Something that stands out to me as a romance-repulsed partnered aro about all the identities suggested is that they all include romantic feelings at some point, even though not all the paths wind up at romantic relationships. Sure, it's a "dating" sim, but if you're explicitly doing QPPs as some of your endgame relationships, why not have at least one that doesn't include any romance on the path at all?

1. Are you named after anyone?

My first name no, but my middle name is from my great grandma on my mothers side. It means "light" which I like. 

2. When was the last time you cried?

I had a stress cry at work two days ago lol, we had a no call no show and I was there 6 hours later than scheduled. 

3. Do you have kids?

No and no thank you.

4. What sports do you play/have you played?

None unfortunately, I was homeschooled so team sports werent really a thing. I recently tried rock climbing and really liked it, and I really want to take dance classes of all sorts!

5. Do you use sarcasm?

I would never. 

6. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

I think i notice how people sound first, i like voices and I recently realized I have some aphantasia anyways, faces are hard for me. I think second I notice clothing, not in a snobby way but in a textile nerd way!

7. What’s your eye color?

Hazel. 

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Both at the same time! I’m a big fan of movies like crimson peak (mostly for the costuming though). 

9. Any talents?

I’m a decent singer and a pretty good cook and baker. I don’t know if I would say any of those are talents, but they’re things I've practiced a lot. 

10. Where were you born?

in  the state of Wisconsin, USA. 

11. What are your hobbies?

Textile arts mostly! Crochet, knit, embroidery, Tunisian crochet, hand sewing. I’d love to pick up weaving, spinning, and quilting, but I have limited space. I do also like a good hike, usually with my dog. I play some video games, more now that I graduated, and I read almost everyday! 

12. Do you have any pets?3! A dog a cat and a hamster :D I love them all, they keep life interesting. 

13. How tall are you?

Five foot six on a good day, when I’m not slouching lol. 

14. Favorite subject in school?

English I think, with science as a close second. 

15. Dream job?I just graduated with my nursing degree and I think right now my dream is to get experience in that field. Eventually the dream is to work as a wound care nurse, but like part time? So I can have hobbies like, gardening and owning chickens, because I have always wanted chickens.

That would be a very interesting situation indeed.

If I remember correctly, the way the gonne works is that it bypasses people's moral restraints and pushes them to violent extremes by tapping into whatever personal end that violence might serve (self-righteousness/thirst for power for D'Eath, desire for justice for Vimes...)

Jigen is a violent man by himself already, but... not for violence's sake, or for power. I feel like the only vice the gonne could unearth from him might be survival instinct and a desire to protect others. That would definitely lead to bloodshed though, with the gonne in his hands it would probably mean killing anyone and anything that could pose a threat to Lupin.

Personally, I'm very interested in what kind of person Lupin would become with that sort of power. >:)

Morning Coffee: a short little Kalluzeb office AU ficlet! Pretty cute and fun to write, it was inspired by some @sempaiko art.

Ties That Bind: my first foray into multichapter Lupin fic, this is a soulmate fic that tries not to be a typical soulmate fic. After all, just cause you have a bond doesn't mean you don't have to work on your relationships, right?

Gimme Shelter: This was supposed to end up being LuZeni porn but just became a sorta sweet, sorta silly survival fic. Got to draw on my Wilderness EMT training, so that was fun.

March

The Last Prince: Part of my SPN/Rebels fusion series I wrote with Sempaiko! I wrote plot, she wrote porn, it worked well. :D

At Sea: Started in March, completed in May. This was my follow-up to Gimme Shelter and turned out to be a hell of a lot of fun to write. Because of course Lupin would tag along on Zenigata's vacation!

April

Resistance: So this wasn't intended to serve as a goodbye to the Rebels fandom, but it kind of did that anyway. I still love it, but I burned out a bit after 2 years, 58 stories, and almost a million words.

May & June

I was in a medicinal haze these months and got NO writing done. I was just glad I finished At Sea in time.

July

Smother Your Sorrows: This one is ALL @maryellencarter's fault for giving me an angsty prompt. It was an adventure to write because I was both thrilled to be writing again and challenged with characterizations and emotions I hadn't written before. Pretty proud of this one.

August, September, & October

I was working on Smother all these months!

November

Little Thefts: written for my friend @lots-o-doodles, who wanted something JigLup involving Jigen's purple shirt. It went more places than that, but it's cute and it's sweet and I have fun re-reading it!

Thief of Time: Still in progress! I actually wrote the first three chapters of this back in Jan/Feb, but it took me until November to figure out how to continue. If I can pull off this next chapter, I'll be as proud as I am of Smother.

Birthday Presents: Dashed off in a couple days for Jigen's birthday, this actually was the only smut I wrote so far this year!

December

Still to come: my Lupin holiday exchange fic, a LuZeni smut fic for Christmas (hopefully) and hopefully the end of Thief of Time!

I've never read Floornight, but I have read and enjoyed "The Lighthouse" by M.R. Carey (available for free here), and you may enjoy that too. It has the added benefit of being very short and not very creepy.

There is a very creepy story called "The Guest," though, and while you probably shouldn't read it, I will link it just because I know that would upset people. I don't recommend it, though, and it will only make things worse.
