ngl I shoulda known I was poly and ace sooner cuz I watched Bridget Jones’ Baby and was genuinely shocked to the point that it Ruined The Entire Film For Me when she actually picked a guy at the end. I just didn’t get it. In my little queer head the whole film seemed to be building to her deciding that she doesn’t need to be in a relationship with either man for them to like, be equally important parts of her life and for her to love them(or that she could be with them both) but then??? At the end she picks one???? I remember the scene where she’s going into labor and both guys hold out their hands for her to hold and it’s like symbolic of the “choice” and I was so ready for it to be this beautiful moment where she grabs both hands because she needs and loves both of them(or neither bcs she can do it on her own) BUT she grabbed just one and I was like ??????? Excuse me???????
Anyway being queer really does color everything about how you view the world even if you don’t get it yet and I am still so fucking upset about the end of that movie lmao

thinking about that one comment I got on Gambit about how it was, DIRECT QUOTE, “painfully obvious the characters do what you want rather than what they want.”
do you. do you uh. do you know how writing stories works. they’re not real, bro.
(this is from back in 2018 so not recent. this is also not actually the worst part of that comment.)

I want more Givenson fic with jealous Raylan but not the possessive kind more like he didn't realize he has feelings for Tim & doesn't know how to handle it type thing
and it could be because of anything like an OMC or whatever but I'm also digging the idea of a temporary Boyd/Tim thing whether it's just a flirtatious thing or an enemies with benefits hookup thing or something IDK but Boyd is so smooth & charismatic & also can be manipulative & just the idea of him getting under Tim's skin??
and like I'm a sucker for low key jealous/insecure Tim (who definitely has feelings for Raylan & knows it) especially in regards to Raylan's history with Boyd & like Boyd maybe playing on that a bit but the idea of him also being able to get under Raylan's skin about Tim??
basically I guess I want an endgame Givenson fic in which Boyd is an instigator with all the jealousy miscommunication hurt/comfort romance mutual pining Raylan/Tim goodness?

One more thing this evening, but Cyrano stroking Christian’s hair or holding his head while he lies to him about telling Roxanne everything (bonus if he actually says it sotto voce) will always be a top tier blocking/acting choice and nothing will ever beat it.

sunday snippet (OT3 in training edition)
Forgot to post a Sunday snippet last week so here's a longish one for today. This is set fairly early on in Richard and Anne's marriage, after she's found out about Richard and Robert but also after they've begun working things out. I don't think I've posted it before, at least. I haven't been writing much lately because I've been completely caught up in job-hunting stuff.
--
Richard hasn’t spent much time alone with Robert since Anne caught them together; he doesn’t want to break things off entirely, and he misses Robert terribly, but he doesn’t want to hurt Anne either, and Anne has not been very clear about her feelings regarding their continued association, even as friends and brothers-in-arms. The three of them have all spent time together, enjoying hunting and hawking and the occasional private supper, but with things still so unsettled, Richard and Robert have both been shy of one another.
Which is why it’s such a great surprise when Richard comes to pay Anne a visit in their private garden, which she has taken to very quickly and where she will sometimes relax after dinner, and finds her walking arm in arm with Robert while a few of her ladies trail behind them, their veils fluttering behind them in the warm breeze. One of them calls out something in their native language and motions to Anne, who takes Robert’s arm and turns him in Richard’s direction. Robert actually pales as he bows, but Anne is beaming as she curtsies.
“If it isn’t my two favorite people in the world!” Richard exclaims, taking Anne’s hand and kissing it. “I hope you haven’t frightened Robert too badly.”
Anne smiles up at Robert. “I think he will recover.” She offers her hand for him to kiss as well. “Will you, my lord of Oxford?”
Robert bows gallantly and raises it to his lips. “If your Highness bids me,” he says.
“I do, my lord,” Anne says. “Will you come hawking with us tomorrow? My lord of Cambridge and his lady gave me a new falcon, and my lord husband says you are skilled in falconry.”
“Of course,” Robert says. “At his Highness’ pleasure.”
Richard smiles. “Always,” he says.
“If my lord will grant it,” Anne says, turning to Richard, “I will take my leave now—I would like to rest, and I have letters from petitioners to look over.”
“Of course,” Richard says. “I’ll see you at supper.”
“Come see me after?” Anne says, her eyes warmly hopeful, and Richard’s heart flutters.
“Whenever you wish,” he says.
Anne’s cheeks go just a little pink. She stands on tiptoe to kiss his cheek, and when Richard bends in, she whispers, “Try to behave yourselves.” But when Richard looks at her face again, she is smiling. “Good afternoon, my lord of Oxford,” she says, and sweeps out of the garden, her ladies behind her. Agnes gives Robert a wry smile and a pat on the arm on her way past, though if she means to flirt with him, Richard doesn’t think she’ll have much luck.
Robert, impervious to Agnes’ affections, sinks onto the stone bench nearby, his expression dazed. “What just happened?” he says.
“Don’t ask me,” Richard says. “I just got here. But I’d guess that Anne likes you.” He smiles. “It looks like at least one of her ladies likes you,” he adds, elbowing Robert hard enough to be teasing but softly enough to still be friendly.
“I didn’t notice,” Robert says. “About her ladies, anyway. But—Diccon, is she all right with us now? After everything?”
Richard’s cheeks flush a little. “Maybe?” he says. “I haven’t had the heart to ask her about the specifics. She was so hurt, Robin—she was afraid I’d never really loved her—”
“Well,” Robert says, “I hope I’ve set her straight for you. She seems like a bright girl, but if she can’t see what’s in front of her—I mean, you’ve talked about practically nothing else since she arrived.”
Richard covers Robert’s hand with his own. “That doesn’t mean I’ve stopped loving you,” he says. “I’ve loved you since before I even knew what that meant. That hasn’t changed, Robin. I asked Anne to trust me, before. I need you to trust me, too.”
“It’s not that I don’t trust you,” Robert says. “I just don’t know how long we can keep this up, now that you’re married. Or how long the Queen will tolerate it.”
“It will help if you get to know her better,” Richard says. “What did she tell you?”
“That she knew I’d lain with you,” Robert says. “I’m surprised she’d even heard that that was possible. Maybe she’s heard the Wycliffites grumbling about it. They seem to like her.”
Richard huffs a little, dislodging a pebble from the ground with his toe and watching it skitter across the garden path. “She could have learned about it from us, you know. And shut up about the Wycliffites. She’s not a heretic.”
“No, I suppose not,” Robert says.
“She just asked you about us, just like that?”
Robert smirks. “I mean, we didn’t get into the specifics of it. Though maybe she would have enjoyed knowing, who can say? But she wanted me to know that she knows, I think.” He looks down at his shoes, reaches down, plucks a daisy and sticks it in Richard’s hair. “She could destroy us, you know. Like your great-grandmother did to your great-grandfather. It’s not as though there aren’t people who’d want front-row seats if I ever got myself disemboweled. And yet—I don’t think she will.”
“Anne is nothing like my great-grandmother,” Richard says. “Nothing at all. I told you, back when we were first married: she wants to love you, as I do.”
“That’s exactly what she told me,” Robert says. “That I am beloved of you, and that through her love for you, she must also love me.” He shakes his head, baffled. “She’s not what I expected, Richard. I didn’t know wives could be quite like that.” He shrugs, then, and gives a little snort. “Mine certainly isn’t.”
Richard makes a little noise that’s meant to be a laugh but doesn’t get there. “How do you even know that?” he says. “When was the last time you talked to her?”
“It was—” Robert pauses. “A while ago? I don’t know. I don’t especially want to talk about it.”
He is the one who brought Philippa up in the first place, but Richard lets that pass. “I’m just saying,” he says. “Being married actually isn’t bad at all, you know. I’m sure you and Philippa could also work something out, while I work things out with Anne.” He nudges Robert again, grinning. “You know, before Agnes gets her hopes up too much.”
“What are you talking about?” Robert says.
“Anne’s lady-in-waiting—the blonde one, with freckles. I think she likes you.” Richard grins. “Clearly a woman of discriminating taste.” He leans over and kisses Robert, quickly, on the lips. “She can’t have you, though.”
Robert laughs. “I told you,” he says. “I’m a King’s man, through and through.”

How do you think Lucifer would react to the Charlie/Vaggie/Emily OT3?
(We really need to find a name for this ship)
Excellent question!
"Wasn't Vaggie your girlfriend? Last time I checked?" "Yes, she still is." "So what about the new on? En-Ed-Em-" "Emily." "Yes! Emily girl?" "She's also my girlfriend." "So... both? At once?" "Yes, dad." "Oh, well. Ahahahaha, as long as they're making you happy, sweetheart."
Overall - really confused. You can imagine how many stages of 'worried dad' he ran, before he figured out what's going on.
He firstly thought that his daughter did similar deed like him (as he helped Eve). Or maybe this plus this new girl was just... mistress? Sort of?
Either way he wouldn't care, but just,, was really confused
still isn't sure how it works, but Lucifer knows how much love is inside his daughter, so he's sure that she have enough for more than one person
he's only worried that her partners will hurt her one day (*angry dad mode*) or stupid Heaven with their stupid taboos. Because demons wouldn't dare. But Heaven? He can't control them.
Let me tell you tho, that he accepts them both immediately. I mean, they are both angels (like him) and they were good God's children until they learnt the hard truth about Heaven. He understands them. And he can understand their love for his daughter.
As he tried had his "father-daughter time' with Charlie, he also tried to do this with Vaggie & Emily.
Did it work? Eh... But they tried!
(Both girls got wooden ducks as a sorry)
Charlie is so glad that her dad accepts her girlfriends and her love life and new family.
Now, she only waits for her mother... She's scared, yes, but... at least she’s not alone now, right?

Is leverage redemption worth watching? I love Leverage but idk if i could enjoy the show if hardison isn't in most episodes or if the reboot sells out in some way.
okay so I showed up to this ask like four months late with a smoothie so I'm sorry about that BUT
does redemption have it's flaws? yes, I will be the first to admit that!
however, as someone who deeply loves leverage, the characters and what the show stands for, I still can find myself enjoying redemption.
there's one post that's in my drafts talking about the differences between the og and redemption and the so-called universe physics (how logic works in both shows and how they are the same/differ) and there are definitely some differences. there are some really good posts comparing them in the tags and I'll try to tag them as watch redemption when they come up!
I'm going to be really honest right now and say that (no shade) I feel like redemption s1-2 were lacking because john rogers was not a main writer for them. devlin and the others are great and know their stuff, but redemption was missing some of the grit (balanced with everything else) that the original run had. redemption is more fun and lighthearted (where the og was still fun and had comedic elements but also had a more jaded perspective). I think part of that change is the absence of nate as a character and what he brought to the table, but the other part of that is very much the way the show is written overall
I have seen some criticism about parker being a caricature of what she was in the original run (ex: how she goes to a child's psychologist and uses puppets sometimes, is overtly weird, more loud about stuff, etc) BUT I will say that I think there's some nuance to that
I don't think the child psychiatrist thing is infantalizing- some methods of therapy work for people more than others and that is me speaking as someone who works in mental health. if play therapy and stuff like that work for you as an adult, good for you! whatever works for you is more than enough the overtly and loudly being weird thing I really do think can be taken either way. in the original run part of parker's character progression was that she was learning how to interact with people normally (or at least more efficiently), but her being more out about that now can be taken as she is more comfortable in her skin and acting like she wants because she is surrounded by people who love and support her. maybe she doesn't want to (or have to!) mask all the time and I don't see a problem with that
HOWEVER! there are certain criticisms that are related to her characterizations and overlaps with her autism and I don't want to speak over the autism community about those aspects and how they have manifested in her character in redemption so I'm leaving it there
as for the hardison being absent aspect- I was REALLY afraid of that at first BUT the loss isn't so deeply impactful when you have characters like breanna and harry added to the mix. I went in ambivalent about harry and excited to have breanna (a canon queer) joining the team, but I have come to love and cherish both of them dearly and wouldn't want to replace them or lose them as characters in this found family ensemble. I think the writers handled aldis' packed schedule really well and even though he isn't there in most episodes, his presence is still very much around. parker and eliot talk about him and reference him when he's gone. so do sophie and breanna, even harry. he isn't on the screen but the relationships he's formed with the other characters and the impact he's had on them is very evident.
there are some takes from users about whether or not the ot3 was queerbait, un-canoned, etc in redemption. I have a lot of thoughts about it and a lot of them are incomprehensible but what I can say is that I have renewed hopes for the progression and canon development of their relationship now that john rogers is back as the main writer for s3

So just a thought that honestly just came to me. So with the OT3 (and kinda an add on from Lilia's child) one day Lilia's kid appears as a teen at the school because they event into the past just like how their mom did once. So now OT3 have to not once take care of the baby but the teen version of them too all while trying to figure out how to send them back to the right time
[Masterlist]
Hello Raven 🌺🌸🌷
I've been in a time traveling mood and thinking about a future kid meeting their parents in the past is always a fave.
I think at this point people will question if traveling to the past is a Unique Magic that is passed down from YN because how? Does it keep happening??? 😂🤣
Of course, everyone can imagine their own fan child for this AU. But for me, I'm going to choose a daughter who looks like YN and has colored streaks in her hair to represent her papas. 🥰
I'm going to tweak your ask a little so YN isn't pregnant while attending NRC. Basically, their teen daughter visits the past while everyone is at NRC.
Summary: Your future daughter visits you.
Tumblr media
You should have been used to this. Ever since you came to Twisted Wonderland, life has never been normal for you.
Beating blots, traveling to the past and returning, changing time and so much more should have had you prepared for this.
This though? You never expected to meet your daughter form the future. And she was your daughter, she looked just like you barring the fangs and slit fae eyes.
It was moments like these where you were grateful for the life and love you have. Moments like these that made you look forward to the future.
You can tell the others felt the same way.
Tumblr media
Your daughter was definitely her fathers' daughter and her brothers’ sister.
She would attract animals to her just as Silver would, a constant companion was a bat on her shoulder.
She would talk to Malleus about her hobbies and listen to his.
She would silently come up behind Sebek and scare him any chance she got, always dancing away and gigging when he reacted.
Her demeanor reminded you of Dawn's at times, the gentle and yet calculative gaze and the fond expression when she looked at her family.
Her cooking...well, she and Lilia was banned from the kitchen especially when together. Both of them tried to protest but one look from you had them quiet.
Tumblr media
Her skill in combat was a feat. You could see a combination of both Dawn's and Lilia's techniques.
You were able to see her in action one day when coming back home from shopping. A few people, there always were, tried to cause you both trouble.
The fools did not leave when told.
"Was that a threat?"
They really had the audacity to ask such a question?
"Oh my~ Did it sound like a compliment?"
You covered your laugh.
Yes, she was definitely your daughter.
Tumblr media
When your daughter returned home, it felt as if someone was missing in your family.
Everyone felt it.
You all knew though, this goodbye was temporary. You all will see her again.
See you soon, my daughter.
Tumblr media
Ahhhh I'm in my OT3 feels, I love them so much 💚🥰🥹

Welcome to another round of W2 Tells You What You Should See, where W2 (me) tries to sell you (you) on something you should be watching. Today's choice: 成化十四年/The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty
Tumblr media
(The) Sleuth of (the) Ming Dynasty (it's hard to get an agreement on how many definite articles should go where) is a beautiful, high-budget 2020 drama about a weenie genius detective, his long-suffering and deeply traumatized sugar daddy, and the eunuch with the most difficult job in the Great Ming: keeping these two dumbasses from getting their fool selves imperially executed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Depending on how you like it, it's either an OT3 or an OTP with an intense, underage third wheel, and either way, it's delightful. I wouldn't call it a comedy, but it has very many funny elements that keep the drama fun and engaging. The first half is full of shorter mysteries that are clever and thoughtfully plotted, and the second half goes in on the longer mystery that ties them all together.
I've already done my quick guide to the early-episode characters, if you want a taste of just how many people are running around and how wonderful they all are. But in case you want to know a little bit more before you commit yourself to a 48-episode series, here's five reasons I think you should watch it!
1. The whole thing smacks of gender
Yeah, this was originally going to be selling point #2, but I know what the people want.
This is not a show about gender. But boy it is a show that has a lot to say about gender, and not just by way of critiquing premodern Chinese gender roles (though it does do that!). Many of the cis characters are either a) somewhat gender nonconforming, b) canny enough to weaponize binary gender expectations, or c) both. Sui Zhou's entire third-act storyline is about how expectations of masculinity exacerbate PTSD in veterans. Three different AFAB characters either dress or live as men. The part where one of the male characters goes undercover in drag is played for laughs, but the joke isn't 'ha ha, a boy in a dress,' it's 'ha ha, this particular boy in a particular dress, and also he's terrible at it.'
And that's even before we get to the eunuchs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are several professionally dickless, permanently unmanned characters running around. One-third of the OT3 canonically had his external genitalia nonconsensually removed when he was five years old, and because of this, he has been given unimaginable authority. He's basically the second most powerful man in the entire empire, and he only gets that way by being unquestionably, ostentatiously, and genuinely submissive to the first most powerful man.
I have seen other Chinese media where eunuchs are treated like sinister clowns, good only to be the bad guys and the butts of jokes. Sleuth's main eunuchs are real and complex characters, and because of this, the show gets to explore what it is to live in this weird third-gender category of incredible power and powerlessness.
Tumblr media
Now, don't go into this expecting woke gender treatises. Wang Zhi's never going to sit down and go, "You know, my friend and fellow eunuch Ding Rong, because of my lack of a penis, I understand my relationship to masculinity differently than other men do." But the show understands that even if he doesn't say it, it's true. And that makes a lot of the characters and their relationships just so much more interesting.
2. Uncle Jackie Money
Sleuth was the was the fourth c-drama I dove into, following the Untamed, Word of Honor, and Guardian -- or, Some Money BL, Less Money BL, and No Money BL. So imagine my absolute wall-eyed shock to find this was All The Money BL, courtesy of its executive producer, Jackie Chan (seen here with some of his handsome boys):
Tumblr media
Sleuth looks good. The costumes are amazing. The sets are stunning. The cinematography is beautiful. Everything is so detailed, and while I can't speak to the absolute historical accuracy of all those details (see point 3), they're still gorgeous. In fact, you know what? I'm going to shut up and show you some of the promotional images.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(For actual screenshots, I'm just going to point you at @rongzhi's tsomd photoset tag, as they have done a tremendous service to the fan community -- though do beware of spoilers.)
Uncle Jackie's influence doesn't end with the money, though. Even though things get a bit goofy and wirework-y near the end, most of the drama's fights are shows of real martial arts skill. You can see his fingerprints on a lot of the choreography -- I'm thinking particularly of the time Tang Fan tries (and fails!) to stab Sui Zhou three times, which is pure Jackie Chan high-speed dexterity.
Tumblr media
Add this one to the category of shows your Average American Television Enjoyer Who Can Handle Subtitles would like. In fact, I have shown the first episode to my normie father-in-law, who was impressed. Show it to your dad! See if he picks up on the gay!
3. I am from ... HISTORY!
The Chinese title translates to "The 14th Year of Chenghua," which works out to the year 1478. There are some clear anachronisms, but they tend to be played for comedy, so it's hard to hold that against them. On the whole, though, the show is trying real hard to evoke a very specific moment, and I feel it does so beautifully.
Tumblr media
This does, however, mean that several of the characters are real people. I don't even have a good sense of how many of them are based on historical figures, that's how many. Hilariously, Wang Zhi's tag on AO3 used to read "Wang Zhi (?-1487 CE)."
Tumblr media
Moreover, these are characters I've seen pop up in other media, played very differently! In particular, Noble Consort (up there in blue) tends to be written as an uncomplicated villain elsewhere, whereas Sleuth gives her a chance to add some goodness to her badness, until, damn, you can't but root for the bitch. (It also downplays the cradle-robbing, which, honestly, is for the best.)
Tumblr media
You may have guessed from the eunuch section earlier, but it bears repeating: Wang Zhi is straight-up the best character in the show. He's smart as hell, and he has to be, because the second he's stupid, he's dead. I actually consider it helpful to know ahead of time that he's never going to do a heel turn -- I feel like on my first watchthrough, I was holding my breath for the first two-thirds of the show, waiting for his sudden but inevitable betrayal. It does not come. Wang Zhi is one of the heroes.
Tumblr media
He's also, like, evil. He orders people flogged, tortured, and executed. The very first thing you see him doing is sinister as hell. And the show clearly doesn't think this is good, but it also doesn't judge him for it. He's a traumatized seventeen-year-old who has not had a normal moment of his entire life. He's working thanklessly for a boss who could kill him on a whim -- and he's doing it because he literally, physically was made for his job. He's mildly freaking out because he has no emotional grounding to help him understand that these weirdos want to be his friends.
Was the real Wang Zhi like this? That's beside the point. The point is, you get to see how someone in that position could wind up as the war-crimes-committing platonic ideal of a little meow meow.
4. oh my god the food
Warning: This show will make you hungry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, beware of spoilers, but @peppersandcreamsicle and @qinzai have put together an entire cook-along Google Doc so you don't just have to drool -- you can do something about it! Or you can just read it and learn about Chinese cuisine, which is a little more my speed.
But it's not just about how good the food looks. Food is a vital emotional part of the series. People bond over it. They make and share it as a sign of love and care. It indicates status, ethnicity, interest, personality. The show's message about the healing power of cooking for the people you love will bring you to tears.
Tumblr media
And yes, Sui Zhou is the main one doing the cooking, so get ready to drool over both the dishes and the handsome man preparing them.
Tumblr media
Oh, and as though that weren't enough, Fu Meng Po can actually cook in real life. He's so dreamy. Absolute unreal handsome man with a devastatingly sexy voice. (I know my opinion might be different if I could hear his Taiwanese accent, but I can't so it's not!)
5. An Unsunk Ship
So like I said, my intros to c-drama couples had been WangXian, WenZhou, and WeiLan. That meant I'd basically come to terms with the idea that you can't have a main couple in a BL-but-not-really drama without splitting them up at least a little in the end, for no-homo plausible deniability reasons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tang Fan and Sui Zhou are still definitvely, unequivocally together when the story ends, as the iconic pentultimate scene of the series confirms with beauty and simplicity. I refuse to give any more details than that, but that ship's afloat.
(These shirtless pictures aren't from the end, but I wanted to include them, and I didn't have a better place to do it. ...Also, you know, ships and water? Yeah?)
And I think their winding up together reflects Sleuth's entire attitude. Tang Fan is made of sunshine, and the series loves him for it. There is tragedy aplenty in this show, but there's no misery. It is ultimately a hopeful show that believes in the power of second chances, if you're willing to take them. Time and again, the moral of the story is that you are only ever as good as the people who have your back -- but you have to be willing to let them have your back. Let people help you. Let people cook for you. Let people give you a reason to keep living. And then keep living.
Tumblr media
Also, Sui Zhou gets two good kabedons off on that little twink, which means they're legally married now. I don't make the rules.
Bonus: Banger opening theme
youtube
This is one you will watch all 48 times.
Bonus #2: The Halo Video
youtube
This is the video that made me go, huh, these Sleuth boys seem like other boys I've enjoyed! Perhaps I shall enjoy them as well! And then I did. So if that might be convincing to you too, well, have at it. Even if it isn't, it's a fascinating three-minute study of shared those-boys-are-in-love visual language across these shows.
Fair warning that it contains shots from right up to the end, so if you'd rather go in completely blank, give this one a pass until later. (Excuse me while I now go watch it for the 10000th time.)
Have I convinced you to watch it yet?
It originally ran on iQiyi, though Viki's got it as well, and Viki's is free if you're willing to put up with some ads about it.
...I just noticed iQiyi's description of the series reads, "When the two handsome leading actors Darren Wang and Fu Meng-Po work together, what will happen? A lovely prefectural judge and an arrogant embroiered [sic] uniform guard join hands to crack unusual cases! Are you going to choose a new idol?" And you know what? Yes. The details are a little off, but that is the correct spirit. Thank you, thirsty blurb.

There is literally no other way to interpret the side by side posters on Jamie's wall, the boy is bi! Roy and Keeley spend literally the whole episode thinking about Jamie, and then the end when they're all sat together? Oh my heart! Also I would love LOVE to know what Roy whispered to Jamie, but the proud looks from both Keeley and Roy at their boy during the match will sustain me for weeks
Like I'm not even kidding in the slightest when I tell you this episode was ot3 made canon for me. I don't even care what happens with the three of them in the finale, this was it. If the finale is bad for them I'm just going to forget it ever happened and pretend this was the final episode, I don't even care!!!
side-by-side posters?????? of ROY AND KEELEY?????? The reveal was glorious. I can't believe I didn't see it coming but when that door swung back, my jaw DROPPED.
Jamie getting injured on the pitch and then the drama of him getting back up and everyone thinking oh it's all right he's okay only for him to FALL AGAIN. And through all of that we got to watch the face journeys play out on both Keeley and Roy??? that was straight out of a million ot3 angst fanfics i was writhing internally
literally just, Roy and Keeley not actually getting back together (without him)...!!! dropping their hands as soon as he came in. Keeley's expression when Roy told her he didn't want to be friends. If you read my long ramble-y Roy/Keeley meta after last week's episode you'll know I've dreamed of times like these anon
something about Roy going to Keeley to ask her to fix Jamie only for her to be like "welp shit I ended up making him worse" was so glorious and funny and perfect even as it was heart-bending. I know we love to talk about Keeley's emotional intelligence compared to her boys, but at the end of the day they are truly 3 idiots 1 braincell. Keeley just gets to hold on to it the most. I love these dorks.
it was deeply vulnerable of jamie to bring Roy and Keeley with him to his house. like we're not talking about that enough, actually. It was clear he'd never brought Keeley there when they dated. Like, they didn't even know he had a Simon. And this was him completely letting them into his world in one swoop. Letting Simon give them a tour of the Jamie shrine unbothered while he cried to his mum. ???????? JAMIE
the final scene where they bring the champagne into the therapy room is everything to me absolutely everything it is the stuff of dreams and I can't believe we got an ot3 scene like that.
I think it's more fun that we don't know what Roy whispered because in our heads we now get to make it whatever we want. Like, okay, it was obviously, "we're fucking tonight," and WE all know that, but the general audience, who is largely blind, can still go on in their own little delusional bubble like "wow isn't it nice that Roy and Jamie are such good friends ! Surely Roy must've told Jamie good game :D" It was such a completely perfect way of doing it. Ted Lasso writers I never once doubted you (i lie)
there was sooooo much more I loved but yeah these are the talking points my current state of mind is oscillating between lol.

AITA for arguing with someone over ships?
🧀⛵ so i can find this later
Yes, this is ship discourse AITA #294729472 you can scroll away, english isn't my first language, my apologies.
So I (16M (But 13-14 at the time)) am in a very niche fandom. As in, we didn't have any new content for the past 5 years and media is old af (2013), very few fans, most of us know each other already.
I used to have these mutuals Cheese (Not their real name) (around my age i think?? I can't remember) and Breadstick (Not his real name) (18M).
We all had our little ships, ok? I like the little (dumbass golden retriever boy) x (badass traumatized man) ship, Cheese liked the little (badass traumatized man) x (literally the same thing but evil and abusive) and Breadstick liked both ships.
I met Breadstick before meeting Cheese so we were already friends before i met Cheese. I thought "Cool, another person likes this little niche thing i'm hyperfixated on!" So we became mutuals.
I didn't anticipate that we would argue about ships, but oh well. So, i'm a very chill person regarding ships, literally any, although i do have NOTPs, i'm not really toxic about my hatred, i just go "Ah, not my thing" and scroll away not without blocking the person, but really nothing personal and no hard feelings, i can perfectly be friends with someone who loves my notp.
In fact, that was the case with Cheese. They shipped my NOTP, like A LOT. But I was okay with it, i mean these are just characters and all we're doing is being silly. I didn't take this THAT seriously. However, when I seemed to talk about my ship, Cheese seemed uncomfortable in some way.
When I was talking about my fankid (call me cringe idc) of my OTP, Cheese got very confused and asked who was i talking about. Breadstick came in and introduced my fankid to them, since he knew about it before. Cheese just started being rude, literally saying swear words (Not against them but, the context didn't really call for it? No one was being mean or mad), saying, and i quote as best as i can, "I don't know what the fuck made you think i knew who the hell [Fankid] was".
I got very mad about it, so i privately dm'ed Breadstick about Cheese's attitude. We began trash talking about them, which, i admit was a very trashy thing to do and definitely asshole material™.
Reason why may i be the asshole: over time, Breadstick just started complaining a lot about Cheese, and I could honestly agree, it came to the point of us disliking them to some degree but not telling them and not breaking the mutual, that could be considered two faced behavior.
This was partly influenced because of another incident. So Cheese and Breadstick where rambling about an OT3 (3 person ship) they had in common, basically sharing ideas and stuff. I thought it would be fun and went "Hey, I have an OT3 too, maybe i should post about it too". So I went and posted about it, but Cheese felt very uncomfortable with that, since basically my OT3 was exactly like Cheese's OT3 but one character is different, "basically".
They said "You have your thing, let US have ours". Felt bad and honestly, maybe i shouldn't have intruded their ot3 rambling. I didn't expect such negative reaction out of them.
In other occasions they complained about me posting a little too much about my ship, even though they did the same thing with theirs. And they also had a mutual that said "If you ship [this character] you suck and i fucking hate you. [character] is too abusive to be shipped with anyone and you can't just make an AU, that would just change him as a character completely" which, dear god, that language wasn't needed, right?. And despite that crazy person saying that, Cheese agreed with their take, despite literally shipping the character in question with another one. And abusively too, which like you do you, lord knows i do that too, but agreeing with a take like that while doing exactly what it is complaining about is weird. On the other side, that person wasn't my mutual, so it's unrealistic of me to expect Cheese to control their mutuals over me, Cheese can mutual whoever they want, but i can still be weirded out right?
That is without including them telling other people to kill themselves over shipping, so it was clear that Cheese took this shipping thing seriously while me and Breadstick to some degree didn't. Honestly another reason why i might be an asshole, clearly they felt their otp was personal and me not liking it + ignoring it caused a bad environment, mala mía, but what else could i have done?
So, clearly Cheese is kind of an asshole to some degree. But i think what makes ME an asshole too is when I trash talked behind their back and cut them off way later than i should've. And also, i guess i shoved my ship down their throat taking by how mad they were about it? I didn't do it intentionally though and i could definitely say they did the same thing too when 80% of the fandom and character tags was them posting about their ship. Again, small niche fandom for old unpopular media, we are keeping it alive ourselves.
What are these acronyms?

while lukadriennette isn't my favourite throuple/ot3 pairing (that goes to shintododeku, my beloved), i did just have an idea about it lol
So Marinette and Adrien are finally together after god knows how long. And thats great! It's awesome, because they both deserve to be happy.
Just because he dated Marinette and was kind of in love with Adrien for a while doesn't mean thats he's jealous and sad and no juleka he is not listening to 'why don't you love me' for the third time today
Meanwhile Marinette and Adrien are desperately trying to flirt with him because they have finally learned how to Communicate(tm) with each other and are both on the same page. The same page being they want to go on romantic walks and get a hamster with Luka and maybe smooch him a little bit.
Cue a bunch of shenanigans where adrienette invite Luka to their dates, but Luka is just think that he's thirdwheeling every time. Everyone else is cheering from the sidelines (except for Juleka, who keeps throwing things at her brothers head so maybe he can finally get it into his skull that he's going on dates with adrienette take a hint you fucking moron)

Idk if this is a trope, or a genre-thing, or a real life thing, but I've been seeing more and more of my internet acquaintance circle say that a character being friends with an ex is a big turn-off to them in media they consume. It's really weird to me because I don't even know it's apparently such a big deal in media to be mentioned, but also, what's bad about staying friends with an ex to begin with? If we split amicably I'd rather stay in good contact, than completely cut someone off. Especially if that person was a good friend to begin with. I don't think I've seen that much media revolving around this at all tbh, and it's weird how they started mentioning it recently. Ok Christmas is the time of love and friendship, but stills feels kinda random. Is it like a side effect of current dating culture, or is that an old thing? I notice it more with internet acquaintances than my IRL friends as well. I don't think the idea of writing about two people staying friends after a break-up turns into a cheap porn plot of them just fucking behind any new girl/boyfriends. If that happens, then that is a cheap porn plot. I just wanna know what the fuck they're media they're looking at.
--
Well... to be honest, a lot of people aren't friends before they date someone and do treat romantic prospects and friends differently.
I think a lot of media also does this. Not only does your standard bad tv writing use the ex for drama in most cases, but the writing of the actual friendship part is often unconvincing.
I know a lot of people, usually guys, who met some girl on a dating app or asked her out in a bar because she was pretty who pull the "We should stay friends" thing, and it's laughable. They weren't friends, and the way that woman socializes outside of her boyfriend isn't compatible with how he socializes.
It's much less weird if it's somebody from your friend circle whom you knew for a long time first.
For me personally, in the context of fiction, the biggest problem is that a sufficiently interesting friendship will make me ship those characters and not the current ship that the media is pushing. Or, on rare occasions, I won't even ship them, but I just want to hear about their friendship and not the romance.
IRL, there are lots of reasons people just don't work out, but in fiction, I'm constantly going "Okay, but they could get back together though!" Unlike with real people, there's no reason some subtle shade of their personality couldn't be a little different or they couldn't change their mind about lifestyle things in a way that would make the couple great together this time around.
It would probably annoy me less in extremely realistic dramas about daily life, but I dislike those. Most things I actually consume just either make me think "Why are we wasting time on the current ship?" or "OT3! OT3!"
Part of making good fiction is paring away the less essential stuff to let the main points shine. A too-good friendship does steal airtime from a romance in a lot of cases.
--
OTOH, I do know a bunch of neurotic people who just hate it when any ex is within a thousand miles because they've got cheating on the brain.

headcanons for you my friend 🤝
- the kombat kids call the adults The Olds
-cassie and jacqui aren’t allowed to do mission debriefs anymore bc they can’t look at each other without cackling, very much “me and bestie trying to hold it together in a serious situation.” they were delirious and wheezing on the floor a couple of times after some especially long assignments
-kuai liang discovered he has a thing for men in western wear. hanzo teased him about it after an encounter with erron black
-frost has become fiercely protective of takeda in her own way, tho would never admit it. takeda thinks it’s endearing and says she’s like a guard chihuahua
-kung jin and frost had beef for a while purely based on vibes but now have a “i can throw hands with you but no one else can or they die” type of relationship
-kung jin calls jacqui’s dad a dilf often among other things and she wants to tear her head open every time
-jade was kitana’s first kiss
-kung lao and liu kang were indeed also each other’s first kiss
-cassie is a skilled driver but she drives like she’s in the fast and the furious and it makes all of her passengers fear for their lives
I love these so much
The only adult who knows about The Olds being their nickname is Kung Lao, who all the kombat kids agree is basically one of them
Cassie and Frost aren't allowed to debrief either, nor are Jacqui and Takeda, because it always devolves into flirting. As a result, Kung Jin is the one usually responsible for handling debrief and he Hates it
Hanzo's next Halloween costume was a cowboy and it was meant as a way of subtly poking fun at Kuai Liang but it ended up with the cryomancer (NSFW ALERT) riding him into the mattress until they literally fucked themselves into exhaustion
Frost rolls her eyes at the chihuahua nickname and calls Takeda a golden retriever bc he's pretty and, as far as she's concerned, dumb (he isn't she's just being mean)
Kung Jin and Frost never use each other's names to the point where ppl wonder if they even know each other's names, they only call each other insults ("Bitchboy" "Canadian Goose")
Kung Jin calls Jax a dilf whenever he wants to annoy her or get her to leave him alone, he does the same with Cassie
Jade and Kitana had a whole romance for a while that ended a couple years before the tournament when they realized they were better off as friends. Living in Shao Kahn's court was not conducive to a healthy relationship even though they tried (they weren't toxic or anything, just not in a place to be committed to and vulnerable with another person and it caused a lot of conflict.)
Kung Lao and Liu Kang, however, were childhood sweethearts and Liu Kang was very anguished over developing feelings for kitana as well bc he didn't want to have to choose between the people he loved. They all talked it through and came to an arrangement that suited them and now Kitana and Kung Lao share a boyfriend.
Cassie drives like Parker from leverage (if you haven't seen that show I do Highly recommend it, it's modern day Robin Hood but with nutjobs and an ot3 that is not canon but also not contradicted by canon) so she's not allowed to drive unless the apocalypse is nigh and they need to get from point A to point B faster than god himself. Frost is the only person who enjoys it when Cassie drives while Johnny once nearly shit himself.
