Ready your bingo chips everybody!!!
Some extra bonus theories: Is at least 1000 years old, is a crow, is a raven, is something else entirely
I impulsively decided to make a Crowley Theory Bingo card, most comprised of my theories, but some other ones are sprinkled in 🤣 Thx @iamnotevenheresimping for the inspo! <3 Explanation’s for some spaces under the cut
Time loop theory: Reset theory also falls into this, but the gist is that Crowley is resetting or looping the world to get the right ending. It is assumed that Monster!Grim essentially ruins the world or kills people, thus the need for a reset
Overblot or Phantom: Common theory is that Crowley has or is Overblotted. I also compressed two theories into one with this, but there’s a variation that Crowley is an Overblot PHANTOM, not the overblotter
Underworld/Psychopomp: Basically every student at NRC is dead, and Crowley is in charge of this weird underworld. I also put Psychopomp because ravens are considered them in mythology
Revival of Great 7: Crowley is trying to bring the Great 7 back to life
OG Diablo: Crowley is the original Diablo/raven of Maleficent. Similar theory is he’s the OG crow from Snow White
Mine Dwarfs are his experiment: So I theorized that if Crowley is the cause of the Overblots, then the Overblotted red and green Dwarfs in the Dwarf’s Mines are his experiments. Aka they were the first to Overblot by his hands
Magic stone & Raven staff: Each housewarden has a fancy magic stone pen that can transform into a staff/other object. Instead of wearing his magic stone like the other teachers, Crowley’s magic stone is transformed into a staff
Cursed Silver/his family: The sleeping curse is from Crowley’s influence as part of revenge for Mallenoa/fall of Draconia family
Shadow Ruler: spoilers to an upcoming theory of mine, but Crowley has connections to all these powerful and rich families because he controls them
Embezzlement: Basically just that, he’s such embezzling money and committing white collar crimes

Monster Au except Yuu is a researcher who came from a modern fantasy world where monsters aren’t an uncommon thing to see(they know their strengths and weaknesses, or at least something similar) and if it’s child!Yuu then they are just a researcher’s kid who wants to be like their parents(may or may not have a plushie of their favorite creature)
This is an interesting twist to the idea of Yuu actually being aware of monsters and magic before arriving in Twisted Wonderland! I can imagine that Yuu would absolutely go full-researcher mode and just start spazzing at the realization that they can actually talk to these humanized versions of the monsters in their big field guide book the size of a cinder block! X’D
Researcher!Yuu: “Oh…my…goodness!!!”
Monster!Jack: “Huh…?"
Researcher!Yuu: “You’re such a perfect specimen!” *-starts tugging and pulling on Jack’s ears, tail, and examining his teeth-* “Sharp, angular ears. Teeth and gums are well-maintained. Ah!! Such a beautiful shade of blue tinted mist! And it’s cool to the touch…fascinating! I’ve never seen an arctic version of the Fu Dog species!”
Monster!Jack: “Wah sha-?!” *-can’t talk with Yuu’s hands on his saber canines-*
Monster!Epel: “Um…what are you doing?”
Researcher!Yuu: *-stares at Epel-* “...o…oh…my…GOSH!!!! Are you a hybrid between two different monster species?!”
Monster!Epel: “Ack! Y-Yes??”
Chimera!Grim: “...uh…you okay there?”
Researcher!Yuu: *-Yuu.exe has stopped working. Please restart.-*
…pfft…yeeeeah, Yuu might be a little much for these guys at first until they realize they have to dial things back a little. Luckily, the students and staff are spared the intrusive and curious questions once the research institutions come into play. (Researcher!Yuu: “I have found my people.”)
On the bright side, both groups can have a blast comparing notes and sharing data, so it’s a mutually beneficial exchange! Yuu might also eagerly tell their new friends all about the different stories from their explorations in the field (and of course, the injuries they experienced when they got spotted by aggressive/defensive monsters)!
How this Yuu managed to stay alive as long as they had is a mystery.
If it were mini!Yuu (in this case I can see them being between 3-7 years old), I’d imagine everyone would be endeared to the child’s curious questions and stories about their parent’s/guardian’s field of study. The monster boy who closely resembles the species of the plushie the little one carries around would be a mix of “Awww, that’s so adorable~!” and “Ha! The child likes me better than you~!” (Imagine Yuu getting flooded with so many new toys based on the other monster boys just to gain their favor X’D)
This whole AU would be a very interesting kettle of fish, especially if their friends had to constantly drag/yoink them out of danger whenever they go into researcher mode. Like when the phantom in the mines appeared during the prologue and when Yuu witnessed their first overblot X’D

Keep in mind that giving fairies your real name gives them control over you, but I like to imagine a scenario where if malleus Overblot, he resists it enough to order Yuu to get far away from him as possible because he doesn’t want to hurt them, and it’s the only time he controlled them
Sorry this is so late, I was super busy before but now I should have some more time for writing! I didn't know about this with fae, but ooh I love angst! I had a lot of fun writing this, thank you for the scenario!
Overblot!Malleus x gn!reader : Calling Your Name
You felt as though your lungs were going to give up on you. You could feel the fog getting thicker the further you ran. Why was the school surrounded by a forest? At least in the section that you and Malleus had agreed to take a walk in, and there happened to be an overblot monster in the woods as well! It was a really strong one, perhaps one that had been living in the woods for centuries. The moment Malleus sensed the monster, he shielded you away from its attacks. It was the dorm leader that had fought against the monster while you could only sit back and watch pathetically as Malleus got hurt. He was overusing his magic, and he knew that it was only a few minutes before he too overblotted.
"Child of man," he huffed, brushing his hair out of his face. His eyes were glowing, there was blood trickling from his forehead. "I need you to get away from here, I don't have much time until I lose control over the magic I use."
You felt your eyes widen. "W-what do you mean Malleus? Are you going to overblot?" you asked, Malleus didn't respond. He gave you a soft smile though, his eyes almost desperate.
"I want you to know that you are someone special to me. I don't know if I will ever feel so much warmth from another person when you are gone, but what matters to me right now is your safety, y/n," he responds. He stretches out a hand to you, almost like he was pushing you away.
"A fae can control someone if they know their name," he starts, but then the overblotted phantom attacks him. Malleus shoots a beam of light against the monster, but it quickly regenerates an arm. Malleus puts his attention back on you, you who is too afraid to do anything to help.
"This works when the person is close to the fae, though I haven't heard of the effects working when a person is far away," he adds on, dodging an attack.
"If I overblot, I fear I may do the worst to those around me, including you, my dear. I don't want to be the one to hurt you, so please, run away," he continues. You feel a gush of wind pushing against you, likely him trying to get you away from him.
"No! There needs to be another way, I-I can try to help you fight!" you try to step towards him, but a bolt of lightning stops you. Malleus pulls his arms towards him, like he is hurting in his chest. You can see drops an inky substance forming on him, dropping like the blood that has fallen from his wounds. "Malleus!" you call out to him, but he doesn't look at you.
"Child of man, I admire your bravery, your kindness, your will to not give up," he coughs out. The energy around you seems to be rising, the pressure almost causing you to suffocate. This was the result of magic accumulating, you knew you only had a bit before the Malleus you knew would disappear and be replaced with whatever overblot monster he would become.
"I don't want to see you hurt, I don't want to see you under anyone's control, especially not mine," he looks at you weakly, trying once again to reach out to you but the monster hit him in the stomach with one of its tentacle-like arms. "I need you to run, don't look back."
Suddenly, your legs seemed to move on your own. You were being forced escape by your boyfriend, the one that was risking his life for you.
"Malleus, wait! No, I can't leave you here alone!" you cry out, but your body was forcing you to look the opposite way, forcing you to flee.
"I love you, y/n," he breathed out, too soft for you to hear. He could say your name freely for the last time before it would bring danger to you. If he could work a spell on him to forget about you, he would. He didn't want to see you in danger.
Perhaps, that was the only thing he could do. But he didn't have time to think about that, since the next moment he closed his eyes, everything went pitch black.
You were running. Running like your lungs were on fire. Suddenly, your legs were moving on their own, it didn't feel like there was a magical force on them. Did Malleus win? Was he telling you to come back? No, that wouldn't explain the growing pressure that was in the forest. Before you could stop and see what was going on from behind you, you heard a loud boom and a flash of light. There was a roar, one akin to what a dragon would sound like.
You squeezed your eyes, feeling the tears flow down your cheeks. "Malleus," you said quietly, gripping your hands tighter as you ran. You felt powerless, pathetic, weak like the human that you were. How would you explain this situation to LIlia, Sebek, or Silver? Were you supposed to go back and try to get Malleus back?
All you could do right now was run. Malleus, on the other hand, had gotten rid of the overblotted monster. Whatever soft prince was left of him was gone. All that remained was a colder version of himself, one that didn't want to be alone again, and what better cure of that than you. He had to find you.
"Y/n," he rose from the corpse of the monster, ink dropping from his hair and his eyes, almost like the tears he had cried right before he overblotted. "Where could you be?"
You looked into the forest, the forest that you had escaped from just a few minutes ago. It felt like someone was calling for you. Now, you had to decide, were you going to listen to Malleus telling you to go away as far as you could, or were you going to follow the voice into the forest?
Taking a deep breath in, you took a step.

ok so I have an Idea for an au and to be honest im surprised not a single person in the fandom think about this.
So in this au yuu absorbs the blot of everyone who generates it which causes him to enter an overblot state at the time of the epilogue but unlike the rest of the people who enter that state yuu remains the same, he doesn't even realize that his Physical state changed until he looked in the mirror (by physical state I mean the black marks on the person's arms and the change of clothes but with the difference that yuu doesn't have a glowing eye or the phantom behind him). You will wonder why, well, if we go back to the explanations that we have obtained about the blot, it tells us that it is a product created when a person uses magic and which is extremely toxic for the user, the only thing is that it is toxic for the person who has magic. because it is by magic that the blot consumes the person's mind. Now in the ceremony, the dark mirror tells us that yuu's soul has no shape or color, which in other words means that he has no soul, which gives him the ability to have that infinite void to be able to fill it with as much blot as he wants without let nothing happen to her Regarding Yuu's personality, he does not change by absorbing the blot since he does not have the means to corrupt his mind. Also, if he could, I doubt that he could do something to the person with the courage and self-control like Yuu.
This would be the impression of yuu the first time he entered his "overblot" state in control
Yuu: *After absorbing the blot of deuce, ace, grimm and the monster of the mine in its Overblot form:….When I change my clothes?
Yuu is still yuu the prefect of Nrc who now has a new way of facing the things that he will face in the future here in Nrc
I will specify things about this au in following posts. (Give me ideas to name this au and if you want me to continue writing about it)
We have talked about blot poisoning on here before— I'm not sure if that's what you meant
Overall I think this concept of an overblot Yuu is very unique and cool! I wouldn't mind seeing more

What’s funny with Yuu going after a overblot is they can’t hurt it as they need magic since it’s implied via grin even the toxic qualities hurt non magical creatures (Grim and Yuu) as well as blots take mate damage from magic, infact no blot yet has been killed with physical weapons that are hand held (what Yuu would need) minus the beam in chap 7 literally made to obliterate blots.
Not sure if it’s confirmed but usually Yuu actually isn’t ‘in’ the fights, they don’t attack the blots just try to avoid getting killed with the others.
But Grim is a magical creature, of course blot affects him. What's that meme? "I get your point, but Grim is a magical creature, that's a very important plot point that happens"
Moreover, there are no "non magical" creatures that interact with blot other than Yuu. We don't know how animals and blot interact (or even if animals in general have magic or not, but they probably don't unless they're familiars... Do familiars have magic? Does Lucius have magic? How do familiars even work?). Even more moreover, there are no non-magical people in that world, only people with magic polls too small to become magicians¹
And many Phantoms have animal features, some worryingly similar to Grim, so it is possible all direbeasts have magic and are capable of overblotting. It's a shame no one wants to tell us what in the fuck are direbeasts exactly. We know Grim is one, and that it's surprising he talks, but...
Also, we have never seen anyone attack a Phantom physically because... No one ever tried². Which is to be expected, they're all magicians, of course their first reaction is to use magic. And, well, who's crazy enough to try and punch a giant Phantom? So we don't actually know if non-magic attacks would work or not. But the small ones? Give me something sturdy and I'll do it myself, and I'm a joke fighting.
¹ That's proved by the fact Styx is made of blot resistant people AKA people with low magic polls. If people with no magic whatsoever existed, Styx would certainly be full of them, because then they wouldn't have to worry. There's also the fact that people who aren't magicians are referred to as "laypeople" (a person without professional or specialized knowledge in a particular subject), which seems odd when they call Yuu "magicless". And the fact the guys who wanted to drive Deuce's bike (or whatever that's called) were confident they could do it even if their magic wasn't that good. Even when they get accepted in NRC, the ones that get accepted are "the ones with potential to become magicians" not "the ones with magic", meaning only those with enough magic potential can be invited to a magic school, key word being "enough"
² We do know that dropping heavy things on them can stop and even weaken them, though, as proven by Deuce in the prologue dropping a bunch of cauldrons on the "monster" in the mines (I miss Deuce's cauldrons). Though, I'd like to know if it's because cauldrons are heavy or if they're magical cauldrons because they've been summoned by magic... How does summoning work, anyway?
I am not obsessed with world building, shut up.

So we learn in book 6 (and I'm talking about what is currently in English, no spoilers if this is brought up in Japanese) That the Overblot phantom/puppet things can sometimes go rouge once it's host is gone and lives in the wild passing as monsters. We can reasonably come to the conclusion that the creature we meet in the mines at the start of the game is one such case. The creature was guarding the big magestone that was in the mines, and we know magestones act as a filter of sorts to collect blot instead of it collecting in the mages body.
What would an Overblot monster want with a magestone? Either it knows the magestone can filter it and thus is it's natural enemy and doesn't want people to have the stones, even if the mine has been abandoned for years. Or. The blot creature wants/guarded the stones because it thinks it can cure it in some way. Or the effects magestones have on blot lessens some kind of suffering it's going through and thats why it stays in the mines.

So quick question about the daemon au.
if the person overbloted what would happen to the daemon?
Hmm... That's a thought.
Since a daemon is basically the manifestation of someone's soul, if that person overblot, then their daemon will go overblot as well. Their body might be covered with ink as well or maybe they started to get dusty. I feel like they will have sick costumes as well similar to their humans. Like, imagine Riddle's tiny mockingbird daemon wearing this wicked cape and crown.
As we know, when someone died in His Dark Material, their daemon will turn to dust. When someone gets fully overblot, as in they turned into a blot monster like the one in the Dwarves Mine, I feel like the last bits of their soul are gone as well. Thus, their daemon just vanishes, their connection is cut, and they return to dust.
After that, the phantom blot will just roam around the world without a purpose and missing something. Or they might linger in the last place their daemon disappeared.

Camp Vargas (Sports)
Followed Mewshi Q's playthrough.
Crowley is still arrested at the moment. Vargas asked Trein and left out the special event in his explanation.
Alice and Grim are staying at Scarabia, and can't party it up with Kalim for three days.
"Hey guys."
"Want to go sit on that log until they made some progress?"
Steps back from the Magicshift club in the attitude of "I'm not with them."
"Hm, that makes sense."
"Caught anything yet?"
Gets concerned, then steps back just to look unimpressed at Floyd.
Takes a picture of them fighting faires.
"Grim, you shouldn't be eating their fish."
Alice doesn't like fish, but has eaten fresh fish and was fine. Takes a bite. I'm right, it has to be fresh. Only eats one.
Quietly listening before wincing.
Winces again.
Why are so many faires?
Her poor ears.
Already took pictures of them mining.
(Ace will be missed)
"Why can't we stay in the cottage with you?"
Annoyed at Vargas abandoning her outside.
Groans at waking up so early, and covers her ears at the banging of pans.
"No, I haven't. I think the last time I saw him was when he was fishing."
"Okay, which way should we go?"
Gets the moneyshot of catfish wrestling Epel.
Looks at the catfish. Holy shit.
(Rip my husband Leona)
"Find any magestones?"
"Wait... The thing we faced down here, was that actually a phantom?" "The thing that appears behind those who overbloted."
"Okay, don't get lost."
(Deuce, you didn't deserve that)
"I think he's actually missing. We should go looking for him."
Tries talking about Ace to Vargas, but he keeps telling her to not worry about it. It annoys her because it's obvious he's missing.
"I don't know, but we should get somewhere safe."
We'll sacrifice you, Floyd. "We'll be fine." Pets his head.
"I'll come with."
Then she's knocked out and wakes up tied to a tree. Panics.
She hates Vargas now.
"Aw shit."
"No, we should tell Vargas before go looking for Deuce. I highly doubt he's going to axe your club after you told him a student is actually- on second thought, he probably wouldn't believe you if you told him a student is missing. Let's find Deuce."
What?
Covering her ears and glaring at Sebek.
Freezes from PTSD.
"Wait, wasn't it red last time?"
"Magestones are all around us, Deuce."
She's going to murder Sebek.
Standing there, watching the fireworks fly.
I think someone need tell Styx about this mine's phantom problem.
Picks up Grim in case of a blot crystal.
"Now, let's get out of here and get you something to eat."
"Hold on, Vargas! As an adult who was witnessed what happened, they're not lying. Deuce was trapped in the mines because of a monster and only escaped because the students here defeated it."
"I understand they are your acquaintances, but you mustn't lie for them."
"I remember Jack calling it a phantom." -Sebek
"I'm not! There's literally no reason for me to lie about this!" Then Trein cuts in and says they will discuss the issue later.

"Wait, what?!" -Riddle

Have anyone else stoped to think about Yuu, Ace, Deuce and Grimm trauma?
Remember when Yuu, Ace, Deuce and Grimm went to that Snow White's dwarfs mine? So, I don't know if this was explained in detail at some point in the game, because my Japanese isn't that good, but anyway. I really believe that the ink monster is the result of an overblot that has not stopped in time and such.
Now imagine the trauma of the group after they made the connection between the overblots appearance and the black stones that is left behind after the blot is dealt with.
Because like, they killed the monster (if I got it right), so imagine them understanding that the monster was a person, and that they killed someone. Even if that person no longer could be be saved, it is likely that this will still have a very strong impact on the group.
EDIT: The ink monster is not a person, thankfully. It is called Phantom and is the negative emotions of the dead overbloted wizard

Still talking about the crow, I know that he keeps apple trees in the yard. Because they are the apples of epel. He said that it gives a beneficial effect on fatigue. Also we learn that crowley drinks black tea. In the Scalding Sands event we learn that this tea has a relaxing effect. This is why Crowley keeps control of his overblot and uses this to prevent his students from exploding in overblot form. because yes, I think he uses his shadow to transform them ( when you look at them, they float, as if they were just like puppets. ) and leave the black stones, the dwarf in the introduction is just him who formed himself into a monster because he has enough magic to do this kind of thing... (7)
The reason the OB boys float is because the phantom is carrying them—you see itduring the battles. The OB dwarf is Grumpy, you can see the phantom wearing his clothes—he OBed due to the Mines shutting down, I don't think Grumoy survived but his Phantom did (calling back to Idia's statement that Phantoms live on instead of their magician counterpart)
Crowley enjoying tea plays into his theme as being twisted from Aleister Crowley, British occultist, novelist, ceremonial magician.. By him enjoying tea he's contemplating the notion of purity.
A priest, Murata Shuko, introduced the idea in the 14th century that there were four value central to the concept of the tea ritual: reverence, respect, purity, and tranquillity.
What could this mean for Crowley tho???

Solving the Dwarf's Mine & the Monsters
The Dwarf's Mine is very interesting and one of the many mysteries in TWST. Because thinking about it, nothing about it makes sense, let alone why Crowley sent the MC, Ace, Deuce, and Grim to the mine in the prologue for a magestone. But I think I cracked the case.
The Dwarf's Mine is based on the mine from Snow White (sus for Crowley), but has been abandoned for a long time. I don't know if it's explicitly said how long it's been abandoned, but there's so many contradictions, and the reason WHY it's been left alone is also unclear, despite encountering an Overblotted monster.
Tumblr media
I just learned this myself, but the Dwarfs' Mine is actually not the mine from Snow White! In one of Rook's chats, he says that there's a very similar mine in the Evil Queen's domain, where there are diamonds and rubies. I find it very fascinating that the Dwarfs' Mine in TWST is pretty much an exact replica, down to the 7 chairs in the Dwarf's cottage. Pretty much everyone assumed that this mine was the OG, but some reason, it's a replica.
This ONE little chat changes everything we can assume about the Dwarfs Mine. The Overblotted Monsters are not the actual Grumpy and Sleepy, nor did they Overblot due to Snow White's death. Much like the students who have Overblotted, the Phantoms base themselves off of historical figures, but are not the actual ones in the flesh.
Tumblr media
Everyone is also aware that the mine has been abandoned, so it's they learned in History class. We know this because in Vargas Camp, the students talk about the 'red flower,' (a reference from the Jungle Book) a forest fire caused by a miner back when the mine was still active, making the fairies scared of fire. However, not a single person ever mentions a monster, which would be a VERY good reason to abandon the mine in the first place. In Vargas Camp, we learn there was AT LEAST two phantoms haunting the mine: a red one and a green one. Miners could have just escaped the mine from the monster, but the miners would've told the public, or investigations would have been carried out as well.
Tumblr media
Additionally, there's a huge amount of the magestones left in the mine! Despite Crowley's claims that there were likely no magestones left, in Vargas Camp, everyone is digging them up left and right! Even the Adeuce crew manage to get their hands on one in the prologue, despite not being professionals.
Tumblr media
In Vargas Camp, we also learn that magestones can be detected by their magical aura, and while students struggle to detect them, professionals can find them with ease. So the miners HAD to have known that many magestones were still left in the mine if even students can dig up so many. The main reason why mines get abandoned is because there's nothing much left, but that's not the case at all.
Let's recap: This mine is new place entirely, the phantoms are not the OG dwarfs, the Phantoms are not why the mine closed, and there's plenty of magestones left.
That leaves us with very little information at what actually happened at the mine, doesn't it?
Wait.
Crowley lied (that isn't a surprise actually).
Here me out: Although I have no idea what caused the mine to be abandoned, Crowley is a huge part of what happened AFTER. He lied about the mine being empty, and he knows about the monsters. The biggest clues are the 3 ghosts in the prologue and Vargas Camp, and the green Phantom.
Tumblr media
When Adeuce and crew first enter the Silent Woods, the trio of ghosts say it's the first time they had guests in 10 years. But I don't buy the idea that it's been abandoned for only 10 years. Everyone talks about it as if it were ancient history- Even Crowley says it was abandoned a while ago, yet also says the ghost camera isn't 'super old,' as if he were taking offense to his age.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crowley also enlists the trio of ghosts to assist with Vargas Camp, and they're so chill about it, as if the ghosts and Crowley were previously acquainted. It also implies that Crowley entered the mines himself to recruit the ghosts, and a mage of his caliber HAD to have known about the existence of both the monster and the plentiful magestones. We also know that this is first time Vargas Camp has been held at the Dwarf's Mine, because again, the ghosts say Adeuce are the first guests in 10 years.
Tumblr media
In the prologue, Adeuce & Crew told him about the monster. He KNEW there was a monster, and still held Vargas Camp at the same exact mine. And I think he knew that there was a second Phantom at Vargas Camp as well, because after Vargas doesn't believe the "excuse" about the monster, Crowley says the group had the gaze of those who've fought for their lives.
Tumblr media
So here's what I'm thinking: CROWLEY purposefully created these Phantoms, aka Overblotted likely innocent humans. In Book 6, Idia brings up the idea that someone may be causing these Overblots on purpose. What if the Red Dwarf Phantom was one of Crowley's first experiments 10 years ago? The ghosts would have known him, and he likely charmed them into thinking nothing was wrong. Then, at Vargas Camp, he created the second Green Dwarf Phantom.
Tumblr media
I think it would explain why we didn't see the Green Dwarf Phantom in the prologue, and why no one knew about the Red Dwarf Phantom. Hell, it may even be why the Phantoms resemble both the dwarfs and the poison apple: Because of Crowley, who has many connections to the Evil Queen and her crow. Crowley experimented with Overblots in an abandoned mine based off the mine from the Evil Queens domain, leaving the phantoms wandering in the mine.

Hello Piano, since we now know that “Phantoms” are people who Overblotted with the point of no returning. Is it possible that the Blot monster we’ve fought in the Prologue and during the Vargas camp event were Phantoms to the original Seven Dwarves themselves. Is it possible that there are also five remaining Phantoms on that mine?
First of all, we don’t really know that Phantoms are those who Overblotted to the point of no return. These are speculations with strong basis from Idia’s lines when Phantoms were brought up.
Secondly, I do think that those blot monsters are Phantoms, if ever the theories are correct! They’re mindlessly protecting the gems and such. As for the five remaining ones... hm. Perhaps there are. I mean, we didn’t know there would another monster until Vargas Camp came in.

something that i’ve legit just realised about grim’s overblot in particular... spoilers for content that was talked about in chapter six, but it’s not too spoilery. proceed with caution either way!
so basically, all the other overblots up to this point have had phantoms form along with them. aka those monsters that loam in the background. it’s basically said that if overblots aren’t dealt with quickly enough, this phantom is essentially all that’s left behind. the person ceases to exist.
with grim’s overblot, however, he doesn’t have a phantom. it’s just him. even the dwarf in the mine must’ve had a phantom form because that’s the overblot that we see; the phantom, not the actual dwarf themselves. i have a bad feeling that this could potentially mean that grim is too far gone by the time his overblot comes along. and i like pain. but it’ll still hurt me anyway.

(So looking over I’m noticing the plot changing grim for convenience)
In book 1-2-3-5 it says “Grim has no magic” or “He can only breathe fire” but in the wiki it’s ‘fire magic’ and according to Styx (via Idia) Grim can only overblot/be dangerous if he eats the ob crystals.
If he has magic idk WHY they keep saying he doesn’t.
As for physical objects on blots. Yes. We have seen it. Like you said, Deuce used cauldrons (which that spell makes a non magical cauldron fall) and the ob was slowed by it (bc it had to get it off to move) but it didn’t really get hurt as it was fine and ready to fight over the gems in the mine.
(I like world building too but am sad with the inconsistency like: )
NRC has the ‘strongest’ magicians yet also has the most obs as according to Styx, they don’t typically see so many obs in such a short time in one place. (Implying this ain’t the first time it’s happened just first at NRC. And it’s all dorm leaders and vice, the ones of each dorm that are the STRONGEST leading me to think strong and their ‘magic reserve’ are very different.
Mona, never once they said Grim has no magic. They say he has a low magic reserves (for a magician) because he's terribly inexperienced, which is also what is said about Ace and Deuce, and probably most if not all first years. Grim has magic from the very beginning, he's just not good at it. Otherwise, why would Crowley give him a magistone to prevent blot? Something he very clearly didn't give Yuu?
As to him only overblotting by eating the stones, that can be explained as blot overload, and said overload can be explained by either:
1) Even people with low magic polls are only "resistant" to blot, not immune, so it'd make sense for Grim to almost (for Grim never actually overblots) overblot if he absorbs large quantities of blot (which happens both because he uses magic and because he eats blot crystals, and then when blot starts leaking)
Or
2) The curse placed on Grim is similar to Idia's, AKA it burns blot. The consumption of blot crystals may overwhelm the curse and make it inefficient, which also explains why Grim went crazy as soon as the large quantities of blot started pouring in the building. Notice also that Idia, who has the curse, overblotted when surrounded by the dense blot in the Tartarus, implying that the sheer amount of blot is keeping his curse at bay
The story specifies that the cauldrons weakened the blot monster, I checked. Yuu theirself say it. If it can be weakened by cauldrons falling on it, then what of physical attacks? Specially smaller Phantoms? What of non-magical projectiles? What a time for Rook to be without his bow! Also, are the cauldrons not magical? Does that mean Deuce is getting them from somewhere and then they return to wherever they were once they're dismissed? And even if Phantoms can only be defeated by magic, why can't Yuu get a magic weapon? Could they potentially use the magic hammer to fight Phantoms (if the hammer doesn't assemble a cabinet with them), if magic is the requisite?
Magic strength and large magic reserves are connected. Every Housewarden has a large magic reserve, and Jamil is pointed out to be the same. Moreover, the connection with that and Phantoms seems to be: a) the larger the magic reserve of the incubator, the larger the Phantom, since blot feeds on magic; and b) the stronger the magic of the incubator, the stronger the Phantom.
Also, it's commented time and time again that would take a lot for Ace and Deuce to overblot because their magic reserves as of now are terrible
Honestly, I wish they'd just give us an explanation on how magic reserves work.

About they so called "Phantoms" I think they could possibly be people who have blotted to the point of no return. If they labled Grim as Phantom then it means that Grim will meet a tragic end if he continues eating blot stones.
I think so too on both points.
I wonder how Grim will be handled. 🤔 He did regain sanity, and if Phantoms are people who can never regain sanity anymore, boom bye bye sayonara :’)
Actually though… why did STYX never do shit in the mines if their job is to contain overblots? Is it because the monster was simply peacefully vibing?
