Writer’s Month Prompts (written for @writersmonth )

Day 17 - Ice (Romy - WatX)

(**Note: While I wrote this I had my story “Proceeding According to Plan” in mind, so there are a few references to the way that story played out.**)

Rogue was going to kill Bobby. Kill him dead. Then, she was going to resurrect him and kill him again just to make certain he learned his lesson.

Don’t talk to her about reasonable. There was nothing reasonable about this situation. They’d left reasonable three days ago. A thick layer of ice encased the Mansion all because Bobby wanted to see how far he could push his powers. Instead of stopping when things didn’t go as planned, he doubled down and kept pushing. Only Bobby would think that more ice was the solution to too much ice. Apparently, he could freeze things, but unfreezing them was beyond his capabilities. Now, all they could do was wait for the ice to melt.

Shivering, Rogue clutched another blanket tightly around her shoulders. Rogue hated the cold. And that’s all she could feel, thanks to Bobby. A cold which seeped into the very marrow of her bones and bit to the quick. She wore every item of clothing she possessed and it still did nothing to dissuade the chill

Her teeth chattered. The heater couldn’t keep up with the cold which permeated the inside of the building and what little heat they managed to secure was directed to the room where they kept the Professor’s body. They’d run out of firewood after the first day and had no way of going outside to gather more. Since none of the others felt the cold as intensely as she did, it was up to Rogue to find ways of staying warm. So far, her attempts had been less than successful. Her hot chocolate rapidly became tepid chocolate, and now as her chattering teeth rattled against the side of the mug, she sipped ice crystals.

None of the X-Men currently occupying the Mansion possessed the means to escape. Bobby—the cause of their problem—only made things worse when he tried. The entire foyer had become a slip and slide before they convinced him to just stop already. Emma couldn’t think her way past the blockage and wasn’t going to risk chipping a nail. And while Hank and Rogue could attempt to brute force their way through the ice, they first needed to be able to access the ice. Which remained problematic in that all the doors and windows held fast. Not only had the ice jammed all points of egress, it had also blocked their means of communication with the outside world. Now all they could do was wait until the other X-Men returned from their missions.

Not for the first time since the Great Freeze did Rogue wish could have been on the mission with the other X-Men. Wherever they were had to be warmer than here. But, Wolverine still didn’t trust her after her time with the Brotherhood. If he did, she could have joined the mission and missed out on all this fun.

It wasn’t her fault the Brotherhood was the only Mutant organization which had the access to the information she needed when she arrived in New York. Until very recently, the X-Men hadn’t been a credible option since before the explosion. Sure, she could tell Logan about Ellie. If he knew, he might even forgive Rogue for her actions. But, she didn’t exactly trust him either. He had the habit of judging people before understanding a situation, then stubbornly holding to his opinion even after learning he was wrong. Also, he never addressed his tendency of running off whenever he felt like it. With those attitudes, this wasn’t the kind of world she wanted to introduce to her husband or daughter.

Burrowing back into the nest of every blanket in the house she’d managed to beg, borrow, or steal, Rogue checked her watch for the umpteenth time. It wouldn’t be much longer. She’d missed her check-in. In fact, she was over twelve hours late. Which meant she missed spending time with her husband. Missed checking in on her daughter. Her absence wouldn’t go unnoticed.

As if he read her mind, a loud crack sounded outside her window. A flash of light illuminated from behind the curtains. Shuffling out of her blanket cocoon, Rogue crossed the room to her window and threw open the drapery. A spiderweb of cracks crisscrossed the thick layers of ice blocking the the window. She heard a faint scrabbling from the other side of the meter thick blockage.

A shadowy silhouette wedged thin, flexible objects at key points within the cracks. Rogue backed away as another loud bang practically shook the dorm wing of the mansion. It was accompanied by a lurid fuchsia glow. When the ice shards settled, the scrabbling resumed. The patterned continued—an explosion, a clearing of icy debris, followed by another explosion until the ice layer was only a few inches thick. Eventually the amorphous shadows took on a distinctive shape. A very welcome form. Her husband.

When there were more cracks than smooth ice covering the window and filtered sunlight lit the room in broken patches, Rogue attempted to force the window open. It creaked and groaned in protest. Undeterred, she continued to muscle the stubborn frame open a few inches. Gambit plucked away shards of ice until he could curl his fingers under the frame.

It shuddered, then gave, sliding open another inch or so, before sticking fast and refusing to budge again. Warm air slipped into the room in a valiant attempt at clearing the pervasive chill. For the first time in days, she felt the initial inklings of warmth. And not only from the summer air.

Working his way back down the ice covered wall, Remy peered into the room. Rogue knelt before the window and slipped her hand through the window and entwined her fingers with his. Even through the layers of gloves, Remy’s natural body heat seeped through the layers of gloves and sent prickles of warmth into her chilled skin.

“Hello mon coeur. I was wondering what kept you. Though I wasn’t expecting quite this much of a cold shoulder.” While he made an effort at keeping the cheeky inflection to his voice, deep lines of concern was etched into his face. “I was afraid they decided to keep you prisoner again.”

“Not this time. At least not on purpose.” Rogue squeezed his hand. “Do you think you can get me out of here?”

“Oui. Your wish is my command.” Remy tapped along the window frame from the outside and cleared away more slivers of ice. “Think it needs one more round of explosives, then we’ll be able to free the window. Mais, it’s probably going to also blow out the glass. You should take cover.”

“Okay.” Rogue backed away from the window and returned to her nest. She pulled a blanket over her head and waited for Remy to work his magic.

A chain of explosions blasted through the last layer of ice. As predicted the glass shattered.  What didn’t disappear in a flash of fuchsia and dust, scattered across the floor in glittering shards. Warmth and freedom at last.

Rogue shucked off her extra layers of clothes. Before opening her door to allow the summer warmth to combat the freezing house, Rogue grabbed a piece of paper and jotted down a quick note.

“Gone to warm up. Be back soon. ~Rogue.”

Surprised that the other X-Men hadn’t already come in search of the ruckus, Rogue hurried to the window. Remy helped her avoid the jagged glass as she climbed out. Balancing half against her husband and half on the ledge of broken ice, Rogue clung to his side to keep from sliding down the side of the building.

“Hold on tight.” Remy pressed a quick, searing kiss to her lips before repelling down the building with the aid of a climbing ropes.

Once they were on solid ground, Remy swooped her up in his arms. With his face buried in her hair, he asked, “What do you want to do now?”

“Let’s go back to your apartment. I want a hot shower and a warm body in my bed.” She snuggled up against his side, luxuriating in his warmth.

“I believe I can help with that.” Remy grinned as he led her back to his motorcycle parked down the road from the Mansion. “How about I promise to keep you all toasty and you stay with me until all the ice has melted.”

“Sounds like a deal, swamp rat.” Rogue rested her head on his shoulder. “Let’s go home.”

The dark-haired man standing in front of her had a wide smile on his face, when she opened the door. “Happy Birthday!” he smiled, but the smile quickly went off his face when seeing Mia’s reaction. “What are you doing here?” Mia asked. “I.. I couldn’t miss your birthday” he answered, “can I come in?” Mia felt like the world was standing still until she heard Ali saying something from the kitchen, probably asking who it was. ���Uhm.. Sure, I guess. How.. What..” Mia took a step to the side, making room for him to get inside. “What the freaking …” Ali’s voice was not in a happy note, it was clear to hear, “What is he doing here?!” Mia closed the door, standing with her back against the others. When turning around, Ali was already on her way over to the door, arms crossed in front of her chest. “Logan, what are you doing here?” Mia asked again, looking at him with a confused look. “I thought I would come and surprise you, but I can see that this wasn’t a good time to do so” Logan started to talk, but got interrupted by a noise from the baby monitor in the kitchen. “Ali, could you… Will you check on her?” Mia looked at her friend, asking ‘pretty please’ with her eyes. “Fine, but don’t let him settle in.. Logan smiled, “Don’t worry, it’s my fault. So… Happy Birthday.” Mia couldn’t hide the shy smile on her face from him, “thank you”.

“I like what you have done with the place. It looks like you have settled in really well here” Logan looked around in the combined living-entry-kitchen-dining room. “Thank you, and yeah, I think we have gotten used to being here now. Uhm.. When did you arrive in Twinbrook? You must have been taking a flight, like, yesterday, or something?” Logan nodded his head a little, “I landed in Bridgeport a few hours ago, took a plane out of LA late last night”. Mia looked at him. Smiling, and not smiling at the same time. It wasn’t more than a week and a half ago when he told her that he couldn’t come as they had been planning for months. And now, without any words about it, he was here. In Twinbrook. On her birthday. Two days before the wedding, that had been the reason he had canceled on her in the first place. “Do you want anything to drink, or… oh, and you can just take a seat, somewhere” Mia turned around and started to walk towards the kitchen. “No, I’m good, thanks,” Logan answered and took a seat on the couch at the same time Ali entered the room again, “She is up, I changed her, but she seems to be a little tired still.” Mia looked at Ali, then at Logan, then back at Ali. “Ok.. uhm.. I..” Mia didn’t know what to do. “I can take her for a stroll, let you two talk about… this..” Ali moved her hand around in circles towards Logan, without looking at him. “Yeah.. Uhm… I think that could be a good idea. Maybe we can meet you at the playground in a little while?” Mia asked. It was the best idea she could come up with. Taking care of Ellie, letting Ellie see her dad while being in a mood, and finding out why Logan suddenly was here, was just not a great combo right now. “Deal, I’ll get her ready” Ali gave her a smile. It was like she could read Mia’s mind, “Get this fixed, and we will meet you later”. Ali quickly got Ellie ready out of the door. Mia took a seat at the couch, looking over at Logan sitting at the other end, “why are you here, Logan?”

Logan let out a deep sigh, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have come. Or at least I should have told you. I’m sorry, it was a dumb thing for me to do without talking to you first.” Logan took his hands up to his head, hiding his face in his palms. “Logan…” Mia looked at him, worried. Something was clearly going on. “What is going on? You know you can tell me, right?” “Yeah, I know.. it’s just.. You know I promised to always be there for you, no matter what, and I feel so shitty for not holding my promise. And after our talk last week, I just.. I could hear I made you sad, and then I felt even shittier when I remembered your birthday was coming up. I have always been with you on your birthday, at least for the last, what.. 15 years now?” Mia turned her head away, looking out the window for a second.

“It’s ok. You have been busy with your own things, and..” “No, don’t do that. It’s not ok. I could have been here to see Ellie multiple times during the last three months, but I didn’t. Why are you smiling?” Logan raised his left eyebrow, looking at Mia, and feeling a slight smile coming forward. “I’m sorry. You are right. You have been a shitty dad, and an even shittier friend the last couple of months, but.. I’m surprised that you are actually doing something about it by being here, completely unannounced”. Logan smiled, “Are you mad at me? Like, really mad about how I have been?” “Of course I’m mad at you, but I don’t want to be mad at you if you are really trying to change how you have been acting lately”. Mia and Logan looked at each other, both with a slight smile on their faces. “Thank you,” Logan said. “For what?” “For being you. Yelling at me on the phone, but still trying to make me smile when I know you really just want to punch me in my face.” Mia couldn’t hold her laughter in, “You are such an idiot.”

…… “Ok, Miss Moody-thing, go over to your mom” Ali looked like she was going to kill herself when coming back with Ellie. “What’s going on with you two, I thought we were meeting at the playground?” Mia went to take Ellie from Ali’s hands. “Oh no no, Miss Moody here was not pleased with being at the playground today” Ali shook her head and grimaced, “She is in a really bad mood.” Mia smiled, holding a laugh in, “Hi Ellie, hi sweetie. What is up with you today?” Mia held Ellie in her arms while taking both her little jacket and little shoes off, and saw that Ellie quickly looked over at Logan, “did you see who it is? It’s daddy. Daddy is here to see you.” Mia smiled and gave Ellie a small hug, trying to get Ellie to not be so shy and feeling ok with Logan being in the house. “It’s ok, he’s just sitting on the couch. Don’t worry. We can just sit here on the floor, see, Effy and Piglet are here too,” Mia sat down on the floor with Ellie, reaching for the elephant teddy and the small pig-teddy on the couch..

introducing my OCs

Allow me to introduce to you yet another WIP I have on the go! This one is an untitled mystery, in which Oscar Knightley goes missing and Ellie Woodward is desperate to find him as a means of making up with his sister (and her ex-best friend), Sakiya. I haven't been working on this long so I haven't got much more than that basic plot and these characters but you can look forward to seeing more about them anyway.

Her story starts when her best friend, Sakiya, cuts her off for seemingly no reason. But then Sakiya's little brother goes missing and Ellie finds the perfect way to get her best friend back.

The script and the plot holes and Olivia‘s directing were the worst parts of the movie. I feel like they were really overwhelmed and they kept reworking the script and had no idea how to make this movie when it was. The plot holes really ruined the movie for me. There were so many issues with the script and the story that just didn’t make sense. Olivia cutting Margaret’s Scenes and also Shelly’s didn’t do the plot any favours because their characters just looks so incomplete and so did their stories. the first act was good, second act just dragged on way to long and it was just the same thing happening over and over again. They rushed the third act and I truly feel like they didn’t know how to end the film and just rushed the ending. You can’t tell that Kiki and Gemmas scenes were cut because Shelley killing frank out of no where makes no sense at all and just added to the many plot holes. Bunny was a unnecessary character. She didn’t add to the plot at all and should have just been played by gemma chan. Her adding her sob story about the kids and making her sled look like the hero at the end was just dumb. I feel like Olivia wanted a big part in this film because the fact that her and Harry had the same amount of screen time was just unnecessary. She definitely Edited herself into the film more and there were so many unnecessary shots of her and she just didn’t need to be in the film as much as she was. For her to have more screen time then Shelly and Margaret the characters who are actually interesting was stupid. Harry was ok. He wasn’t good and he wasn’t bad. The reason that people think that he was bad in the movie is because he was partnered with Florence. That didn’t help him at all. He look like an amateur when they were actually together and most of the time he looked like he was waiting for his line. I feel like he had no prep time for this movie and it shows. He got casted a month before they shot the movie. I really want to see his audition tape because I wanna know why he was the person that they chose. If they had done a chemistry they would’ve seen that him and Florence didn’t have the best chemistry and they would have casted someone else. I can name 10 actors that would have done a free job than Harry. Evens Peters, Steven Yuen, Austin Butler, Rege Jean page, Logan Lerman, Dylan O’Brien, Jay Ellis, Miles Teller, Mena Massoud, Dev Patel. The movie would have been better is they had casted a different Jack and if Harry and Florence had chemistry. I feel like they added Harry has a big name and it didn’t work in their favour because he wasn’t really that good and the script was awful and Olivia had no idea what she was doing with this movie. Florence Pugh was the saving grace for this film as well as Chris pine, Kiki Lane, and Gemma Chan The cinematography was great as well but it wasn’t enough to save the film. I went into this film not knowing much about the drama and with an open mind and I saying that will give this movie a 4.3/10. The most important parts of a movie where the parts that lacked the most. The casting, the direction and the script. Not to mention her editing out most of the people of colour in this film to make room for her white self isn’t doing her any favours

you said it all so well. bunny’s character was just so unnecessary?? like i didn’t hate olivia’s acting or anything and bunny could’ve been a nice character if she just stayed in the background. her being the hero? cliché, cliché, cliché. felt to me that olivia just missed acting and wanted to be part of something to be honest

New Justice (Part 1)

Mar'i Grayson | Nightstar

The daughter of Starfire (Koriand'r/Kory Anders-Grayson) and Nightwing (Richard "Dick" Grayson). She's the de facto leader and overall peacekeeper of the group. She has her mother's Tamaranean powers and is highly acrobatic with training from her dad.

She's quite popular around Justice Academy and has a large group of friends, most of whom are her teammates. While she is a strong and kind leader, her fear of death sometimes holds her back.

Arella "Elly" Logan | Anima

The eldest of Beast Boy (Garfield Logan) and Raven (Rachel Roth-Logan). Her powers include Garfield's shapeshifting, Rachel's empathy and astral projection, and some small bits of magic.

She is Mar'i's best friend and has been close to her ever since they were small children. There are rumors that she has a crush on her teammate but Elly never addresses them. Aside from being a superhero, she aspires to be an Olympic ice skater.

Steven Logan | Equalizer

The middle child. Steven is named after his adoptive grandfather Mento and is the 2nd most powerful behind his sister Rita. Like Beast Boy, he has green skin but Raven's black hair. His powers include the astral projection by pulling the darkness out of one's soul, time manipulation, and dimension travel.

Currently, he is dating Lois Kent-Drake and they seem to be very serious about it. He's protective of his sisters and is always keeping an eye on Rita. He also has this weird rivalry going on with Chalino Allen-Reyes.

Rita Logan | Evermore

The youngest but strongest child. Rita was born blind and fluctuates between using her white cane and using her powers to get around, but that doesn't make her any less of a threat. Much like Steven, she is named after her adoptive grandmother Elasti-Girl. Her powers include magic, empathy, psionics, and the ability to create astral projections of animals.

She's the weird cryptic girl on campus but she's also very entertaining. Rita has Autism and is known to infodump to others before, during, and after missions.

Lois Kent-Drake | Valor

The eldest child of Miss Martian, Red Robin, and Superboy. She's the girl next door type; friendly, kind, has an interest in veterinary care, doesn't dress flashy. She has a mix of Martian, Kryptonian, and human physiology thus making her a hybrid of all three - but prefers using her psionic powers.

One of her biggest dreams is to become a veterinarian and she has a pet bunny named Jodie. When not with New Justice, she's a sometimes member of a vigilante group called the Lizzies.

Chalino Allen-Reyes | Azure Lightning

The son of Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) and Impulse (Bart Allen). This dude is the guy version of a mean girl - doesn't help that he's super smart, either. At the moment, him and Steven are locked in this really weird half academic, half something something masculinity rivalry.

His power is super speed - a trademark of other Flash family members.

Rhea Beecher-Duncan | Soul

Daughter of Bumblebee (Karen Beecher-Duncan) and Herald (Mal Duncan). Rhea is just ad confident as her mama Karen and doesn't like being told what to do - but tolerates it and listens for the sake of the team. Unfortunately, she is oblivious to when someone has a crush on her.

Her powers include empathy, telekinesis, and aura control. She can perceive the auras of others as colorful electricity.

Lily Jean Kent-Drake | Muse

Lily Jean is Lois's adopted younger sister. She is not Kryptonian or Martian or even Metahuman; rather, she is an Musoi from a different planet. She was found by Red Robin and Martian Manhunter after her ship crash landed outside of Gotham. Lily Jean is selectively mute and only talks to her family members.

As a Musoi, her powers are derived from sound and music. She can telepathically communicate with others using music as a medium.

Danny McNamara | Beatdown

Danny is Steven's best friend and a Metahuman from Star City. Both of his parents are athletes so he was very healthy and active growing up. He was found and recruited by Damian Wayne around the same time Steven was.

His powers include superhuman strength, pressure manipulation, and an enhanced physiology that doesn't allow his bones to be broken easily.

"No shit." Jaxon took the paper from Leo's hand. "That's how my name's spelled."

Leo snatched the paper out of his hands, wheeling around on her heel, pacing around the floor. "It is not how your name is spelled."

"Wait, wait, wait." Jaxon laughed, waving his hands in the air. He patted Leo on the shoulder. "How do you spell my name?"

"Fucking J-A-C-K-S-O-N. Like every other person on the fucking planet." Leo turned back around, hand loosely placed over her mouth. "No way I've been spelling your name wrong for two years."

"You have been." He stole the paper back, rolled it up like a magazine, and hit her over the head with it a few times. "You've been spelling my name wrong. For two years. Do I really look like a 'CKS' Jackson to you?"

"No! That's why I was confused!"

"Look me in the fucking eyes, and tell me that you, genuinely and with all of your heart, don't think I'm the kind of person to choose a funky spelling of the most basic name ever."

"Oh my god-"

"It's gonna be okay, Leo-"

"Oh my god, you would pick that name for yourself. With an X. You fucking nerd. I'm so pissed. I almost got killed by a J-A-X-O-N. God dammit. I hate you. I hate you vehemently."

"Wow." He put a hand over his heart, faking offense. "I can't believe you would say that to your best, closest, goodest, nicest, smartest-"

"Too far."

"-kindest... uh... funniest friend."

"First of all, you rank second place, since you pushed me off a building. Second, half of those were the same thing. Third, goodest is not a word, and I hate you for saying it to me.."

"I love you too." Jaxon smiled, and patted Leo on the shoulder again. "I don't think you should do a spelling bee anytime soon. Just change my name in your contacts, and we'll be on our way, and maybe I won't tell Lily. She'll never let you live this down, y'know."

"I know. I'm not changing your name in my phone." Leo was on her phone anyway, scrolling through, before showing him the screen. His contact name was Shithead Mcgee. He took the phone from her hand, and pretended to put it in his mouth.

"Don't eat my phone," Leo scolded, snatching it out of his hand. Her expression shifted into something indescribable. "I can't believe I just said that with a straight face to a sixteen-year-old."

"...So, you've never seen my name written out-"

"Oh, shut up." Leo pretended to sob into her hands. "Usually, if someone texts me and says guess who fell down a flight of stairs again, I can narrow it down to either you or Elliot."

"That's fair." Jaxon shrugged, and ran up to catch up with Leo. He hummed thoughtfully. "Ellie falls down the stairs a lot."

"I wholeheartedly believe Logan would literally install an elevator if we asked politely." Leo grabbed for his hand, pulling him forward. She pointed at their state's welcome sign on the side of the road. "Look, we're almost home. Few more hours?"

"...Few more hours." His chin rested against Leo's shoulder, eyes drifting shut, and snapping back open. Exhaustion hit like five trucks all at once. His feet dragged in the yellow, dead grass, right hand hanging onto Leo's sleeve. She stopped walking.

"...I can probably get enough internet or whatever in like, thirty minutes. Can call Logan, or Cass, or Kai if he's up here. See if someone can just come and get us."

"Please." Jaxon let himself collapse into the dirt. "I think I'm about to die, dude. Call Logan. He's least likely to have our heads on a stick for the whole, uh, we went missing for nearly three months and everyone thinks that we're dead stunt."

"Calling him." Leo shot him a warning glance. "My phone's about dead, so no fucking around. Don't just start to scream for no reason."

"Curses, you know my tricks," Jaxon deadpanned. The phone started to ring. There was a beat of silence. "...So how do you spell everyone else's names?"

"I can leave you here."
