November Magma "1st Anniversary" results!!

It's already been a year since I started running these monthly events, would you believe that!! For this special occassion we invited Pokémon characters for a big party in the Battle Subway, and it turned out fantastic!! Check it out!!

correct!! inceltaru lives in an apartment, one that’s fairly nice though he could afford one that’s way nicer or a whole mansion if he wanted to but… he prefers only having as much space as he needs. i think he’s a bit uncomfortable with having too much space; he feels safer in smaller places. something something cozy something something he needs to feel a bit trapped at all times since he has a need for control. he’s a frequent browser of many online forums so the odds that you’ve seen at least one of his posts before is close to a hundred percent. consider this: you post a mini rant somewhere about how much you can’t stand your neighbour and his habit of having noisy gaming/jerk off sessions when you’re trying to sleep. he stumbles across it and quickly links the post back to you, his very next door adorable crush!! he’s immediately shooting you a message sympathizing with your issue and offering an ear to vent it all out to while grinning to himself all about how you have no clue it’s him. is he a bit peeved you’re talking so much shit about him?? yes, but he finds it far too hot that you know about him to be truly upset. the degradation only increases the frequency of his nasty actions to enjoy your equally increased annoyance. it’s a bit of a waiting game for you to find out it’s him but you’ll get it soon with all of the slight reflections of his ginger hair and glasses in the occasional photo he sends you!! inceltaru loves that your unaware and, to a degree, at his mercy <3 it takes a nearly clear photo of his face for you to put two and two together since you’ve only caught glimpses of him on the rare occasion he’s left his own apartment but when you do you’re halfway between cussing him out and breaking your lease. unfortunately, you’ve got a killer deal on rent so in your anger you storm over to his door to confront him on the verge of tears. you feel humiliated knowing he was fully aware and enjoying playing with you like some toy!! he answers the door with a lazy grin, wet hair, no shirt, and only clad in boxers. it would be wise to make fun of him for having what you assume is his monthly shower but you’re rendered speechless at the way he’s eyeing you and opening the door further to let you in. he leers at you upon entry and asks what’s up as if he isn’t fully aware like the asshole he is. suddenly you’re stuck between verbally beating him up or sucking the obvious boner you can see through his grey boxers…

Are you playing in, or GMing any TTRPGs currently?

very yes to both! i'm gming two campaigns. it's less overwhelming than it sounds bc one is monthly rather than weekly. making the stories come to life has become one of my favorite things

i'm sort of playing in four campaigns right now? it's also not as overwhelming as it sounds; the group only meets once or twice per week. one of my gms got excited about a different campaign while gming the first so now we're swapping between the two campaigns when we finish each book. the gm for campaign three has been overwhelmed by Life™ recently so another gm stepped up to run what was conceived as a series of one-shots for when the others aren't able to run anything but we're currently on a pirate-themed (sort of) mini campaign so i'm counting it as campaign 4.

all are pathfinder, some 1e, some 2e. more about the particulars of each under the cut

the weekly campaign i run is hell's rebels! i play with kcvagabond, chromaticcarton, and two others who aren't on this site. we're about 3/4ths of the way through it. i was resistant to the idea of gming at first but a friend of mine who lives in another state was talking about how he missed playing ttrpgs and i wanted to change that but i wasn't going to ask anyone to do something i wasn't willing to do myself so i took the plunge and i'm so happy i did.

the monthly game i run is kingmaker and it's for a church group actually! i'm not really religious, just friends with the pastor who is a big fantasy nerd and has always wanted to play in a ttrpg. there are six players and i was nervous about managing such a big group, but they instantly had a great rapport and they put a lot of value in making sure everyone gets a say in decision making. we've only had 3 sessions but i'm loving it so far.

campaign 1 is strixhaven. my character is zefi (he/she/they) a fetchling champion of alseta who is perfectionistic and a people pleaser. alseta is the goddess of transgenders and also letting people do whatever they want so zefi's dogma, as they follow it, is basically being an enabler i love playing paladins that aren't lawful good

campaign 2 is rise of the runelords. my character, sylvie, is a human tower shield specialist who i min/maxed for ac. her concept is basically she's a teenage girl. she's brilliant except for when she's stupid. she's cool except for when she's not. she painted purple stripes on her shield with nail polish. her closest friends in the world are a geriatric scholar and the orphans she babysits il ove her

campaign 3 is homebrew, possibly taking some cues from extinction curse? i play lee, a human bard who ran away from the pressures of noble society to join a circus. massive nerd. his muse is the heroine of his favorite adventure novels. he didn't realize he was nearsighted until he tried on a pair of glasses while looking for circus disguises. his initials are lol. il ove him

campaign 4 is also homebrew. i call it sort of pirate themed because the gm defines pirates as sailors on adventures. knowing the gm it's probably one piece inspired although i'm not familiar enough to say for sure. good cartoony fun. my character is aven (he/they) a suli oracle. he's the least evil of his party which is saying something because he can get pretty bitchy. pf2e oracles are a huge chronic illness mood; using certain abilities advances their curses and the only way to reset and recover is by resting which i think is pretty neat. he's a lot of fun to play

That one time Hinata let herself act impulsively, she never thought it would cost her a bombardment of constant, overwhelming desires she never allowed herself to think of dwelling into.

Being a college student is hard enough. But being a broke college student is on another level of headache, not to mention that her college life is basically hanging on the thin thread of her scholarship. It's always so packed with endless assignments, nonstop pulling all nighters, and part time jobs at one place after another.

And when her body betrayed her into refusing to work due to the excessive amount of labor hours and then the stress level hit its peak; Ino had successfully convinced her to do that one thing she always cringed out whenever Ino brought it up during their pillow talk session in their bedroom dorm.

THE FALLEN GOD

The blazing on his eyes were as crimson as the blood tainting his armor.  

The originally white fur of the horse he was riding now smeared with the concrete evidence of their triumph on the battlefieldㅡred burning blood screamed of the anger and desperation of the defeated alliance; black ashes and dust personified the life of the enemies killed and dragged down past the walls of the afterlife.

His face was stoic, emotionless, and even cold. Not even a hint of pride adorning his sharp gaze over winning another warㅡemphasizing their kingdom's dominance in the upper world yet again. He remained quiet, not even fazed by the clamorous noises hanging in the air, as though the troops he was leading along with his best friend weren't even there to glorify their another absolute victory.

FRIENDS

It wasn't something they thought would happen.

BURNS FOR YOU

When she decided to choose the firefighters for this month’s theme of “I Want To Be A….” event for her class, she didn’t expect this kind of firefighters to come.

I mean, she managed to get her favor granted for them to do a day visit at kindergarten and give some mini demonstrations for the kids through one of her student’s parent’s help. This event was done on a monthly basis that she set up for her class as an attempt to plant some tiny seed in their heart to grow a conscious sense of willingness to be the person who can give a good contribution for the society, by learning the various essences of kindness held beneath each different job.

STEEL UNDER HER VELVET

"Haahh...hahhh...okay...hahh... enough…" Boruto panted so heavily from his training with Kawaki. He bent forward, both his hands were supporting his body on his knees. Few droplets of sweat were trailing down from his forehead, to his cheeks, until it finally dropped by the tip of his chin.

"Let's take...a small...break," Kawaki replied while trying to lay down on the ground. His voice was no better than Boruto's, disjointed by the need of oxygen supplying his lungs. He could feel how his muscles burnt by the excessive usage during their session, and how a few parts of his body were giving signals of the upcoming bruises that would surely appear by the end of the day.

AMONG THE STARS

(High school AU, Multi chapters, rate T, heavy angst)

Spring, 7 years ago. Konoha High School.

It was magical. Spring had always felt so magical. After months of crisp, clean-white snow covering anything our sight could fall onto, spring was like a gift. A sweet gift of enduring the cold world. 

When the snow melted and the cold air was swept away, colors bloomed into the monochromatic world like wonders; we witnessed nature get revived and reinvigorated. Dormant plants began to grow again, new seedlings sprouted out of the ground; they flourished ardently in such abundant lush. As if they had been yearning to bloom.

In the distance, the world hummed in awakening. Little animals emerged from their den after months of being cradled by their small warmth. Snowmelt made the rivers pulse like wondrous veins. The pumping heart of nature was beating again, a pleasant reminder of what a vibrant world to be alive.

Everything felt so alive. Just as lively as how youth should be. But those weren't the reasons why my youth was so vibrant.

It's because she was there. Because she was there and made my life so vibrant and radiant.

SUMMER PARADISE

This one is not really a fic, but a socmed-au format one. It’s actually a remake of my unfinished fic lmao I’m just trying to reexperience the fic so that maybe I could find the vibes to finish it. But, here I am playing with this socmed-au-thingy lolol never thought it’d be sooo exciting to do! 😂😂 So, I’ll just drop some shots I have in my draft!

After two and a half days of illness, I'm pretty much back to regular functioning (with occasional sneezes but at least the sinus pressure has majorly receded). This does mean that I'm about two days behind where I wanted to be, but I'm going to have to try as best as I can to catch up so Thursday doesn't ~suck~. I don't really want my sleep to suffer though [edit 2, next morning: failed, reverse bedtime procrastination strikes again], that's a habit I'd like to leave back in undergrad if possible. Man, I can't wait until I'm done with (undergrad-level) classes (though then I'll have to structure my own days which is another kind of challenge).

Anyway back to the house conversation, I'm obviously facing a major hurdle preventing ownership: the down payment. I know I listed out all of those "little" savings goals a bit ago, but preparing for a down payment is a huge goal, like tens upon tens of thousands of dollars in some places, and I don't want that to bite into my emergency fund which I am also trying to build (though the emergency fund will likely be much smaller than the down payment goal). The toughest part is that saving in grad school is terribly difficult. The first year and a half are so are going to be weird because I don't really know what my taxes will look like, but budgeting should become easier as I settle in.

And then and then not only do you have to do a down payment, but also hoa fees, monthly mortgage, insurance, figuring out how to get things fixed when (not if) they break, not to mention all the fees you have to worry about before moving in and all the people you have to pay... so many things to consider, so much cash to raise. And like yes I know that serious saving requires serious sacrifice, but bread and roses man. I wanna get a bass guitar in two years, I'm solidifying a wardrobe, I wanna keep sewing. I don't wanna be so single-track-minded that I'm totally miserable for years (like they tell phd students to not let Being In School stop them from living their lives).

I need to talk to a financial advisor, agh. So many things online are saying that renting could be the better move,,,,, but something deep in my bones tells me that it's propaganda of some sort.

God the way I could've been absolutely insufferable as a (metaphorical) finance bro had I actually taken accounting seriously in high school. Like I totally could've gotten a degree in finance and gone into consulting had I not taken money for granted in high school and really thought seriously about it. Honestly...? That probably would've been an easier way to live than the path I've chosen, but I suspect that what I'm doing will be a bit of fun and probably more intellectually stimulating. So that's okay. I guess.

Another funny thing about this whole ~house~ mini-obsession is that it was merely a month ago that I was freaking out (mildly) about the idea of moving away from home lol.

On to different topic entirely, Knowt has got to be my fav quizlet successor. Having anatomy experience is definitely making these practical cram sessions go by faster.

Today I'm thankful that I'm mostly back to normal and also that I decided to go to this social hour thing where I might've made a new friend (someone who knows my puzzle-friend actually lol)! Now comes the tough part--finding and scheduling things to do with them. It's not like high school where you are with people all the time and come to learn who they are gradually. This takes a lot more conscious effort I feel like.

Okay, enough time spent here. I have (too many) things to do.

So f2, f3, f4 and the f1 academy are in their off seasons (so is indycar). So if you want to catch up on old broadcasts now is the best time without getting overwhelmed. I find the f1 tv app is best (it costs like 20 pounds per year or monthly installments of 2.50 I think)

F1 has three days of driving. Either a sprint weekend, or non-sprint.

Non sprint-weekend:

Friday: Free Practice 1 & 2, where the teams have the cars run as long or as little as they want to see if any adjustments need to be made to the car or to see if they need to use different tyres to the ones they planned to use. A lot of people choose to skip FP1 & FP2 but some drama can come out of it.

Saturday: Free practice 3 and qualifying, the last practice session and then qualifying. Qualifying is a short race do to determine the starting positions of each car in the actual race. The bottom 5 of qualifying are knocked out after 15 minutes and are at the back of the grid. This continues until we find our winner (known as pole position) and our number 2. In f1, the 1st and 2nd places are on the first row, 3rd and 4th are second row and so forth.

Sunday: The race. Everyone will fine up on the grid and complete a formation lap before getting into their grid positions according to where they ended up in qualifying. Sometimes people will move back due to penalties or start from the pitlane because they made major changes to the car. The top 10 positions gain points.

Sprint weekend:

Sprint weekends replace fp2 & fp3 with a sprint shootout and sprint race. These races are basically a mini race, with the top 8 positions gaining points. They are controversial as not many people like the current sprint format.

Terms you will hear:

Safety car: after a crash or if there is a hazard on track a red flag will come out and a safety car will be deployed. All racing cars must stay behind the safety car and cannot overtake.

Virtual Safety Car: this means that all cars must not overtake and stay under a specific speed as if a safety car was on track.

Red flag: danger, stop.

Yellow flag: be careful.

Double yellow flag: be extremely careful

What's the difference between f2, f3, f4 and f1 academy?? Is it just, idk, an age category or something. And which ones do you recommend to watch?

Also, unrelated question, do you have any F1 podcast/video recommendations? I watch Matt and Tommy, and I thought more content would be nice

Dear Friends of AnySquared,

Some of you are friends we’ve featured in exhibitions, some we’ve met at events or studio days, and some we’ve collaborated with on your projects – many are friends from the community. You are why we exist and your support is essential for us to continue our work. This December marks our year anniversary of formalizing AnySquared as a nonprofit 501c3!  We are grateful to our board of directors for doing the work to make this happen–the board is made up of six dynamic individuals who are involved in community-based organizations and arts related projects. As a nonprofit, we can create new networks of support for Chicago artists and generate compelling and meaningful programming that gives artists a chance to leverage their art to organize for the greater community good. Artists from all over the city attend AnySquared’s weekly Wednesday Studio Days. Participants tell us that there is no other art day like ours in the City of Chicago. We provide free supplies while offering the studio space and encouraging creativity and collaboration. Life & Love in Covid Times opened in March as our 1st exhibit for Art at Coles since the pandemic! Featuring 50+ artists including some we have never worked with before, it was a great way to connect in addition to Studio days. We also hosted 2 other Art at Coles later this year that hightlighted 3-4 artists each in these exhibits: Art at Coles #42 and Off the Streets! Looking to the future as a nonprofit: Our amazing Visioning Session in June gave the whole of the AnySquared network a platform to workshop and voice ideas about the direction of our organization as a nonprofit. We continue to roll out different aspects discussed including implementing monthly meetings, opening the studio additional days, initiating the planning for the Belmont Cragin Community Mural, and creating more avenues for more artists participation in programming and proposing projects. The annual Against Da Fence mini-art-festival is our biggest collaboration of the year and is a testimony to cooperation with Renegades of Funk and our combined communities at Project Logan. 500+ people in the community came through to see art on the fence, painting on the wall, art vending and demonstration by 75+ artists as well as participate in our art-making activity. This year we were proud to be recruited to collaborate on two projects with Palenque LSNA — an excellent community organization that fights for affordable housing, immigration rights, and better schools. Our team created a beautiful mural banner to be carried at Palenquefest. We also organized arts programming at the May festival including artmaking for families, an artist showcase, a “here to stay” community banner painting activity, and more than a half dozen live artists. It was a true collaboration of art plus community on a rainy, but fun day!

Palenque LSNA also asked us to create community alter that honors those killed by gun violence in 2022 for the Viva La Vida: Day of the Dead event at Comfort Station in late October. Our lead artist was Cesar Luna who designed and created the beautiful ofrenda for Dia De los Muertos.

Once again we collaborated with Unity Park for Art in the Park and provided volunteers, organized the painting activities of the day, and completed the “making space for each other” banner mural painted by the community and designed by Helen Sanchez-Cortes who was also the lead organizer. It was a beautiful day of art + community.

We continue to supported up-and-coming spaces and emerging artists with our collaboration with Studio Nez for the Breakfast Show exhibit. It was great to partner with Casa Hernandez’s Nick Hernandez who donated their space for the Passions Skateboard Art Show curated by Cesar Luna! The space usually hosts Humboldt Park Solidarity Network‘s free store thanks to Nick and community members! This year we also sponsored a pilot Arts Administration Internship Program and plan to create and fund more mentorship opportunities and skills workshops in 2023. For next year we hope to create paid intern positions for communications manager and art studio manager. Internships help develop real world skills for young people interested in arts administration but we need your support to make these positions a reality.

Throughout the year we continued to amplify our fellow artists and collaborators in our wider network through 100s of social media stories and posts in the Milwaukee Avenue Arts News.

While we currently remain in our AnySquared Studio space, and are beginning the process of investigating the possibility of spaces – but we understand we need to build out our fundraising capacity. We will see rising operations costs in 2023 and have already experienced a rise in costs for art materials. We have traditionally raised money through our own efforts and in 2023 plan to make a push to seek out monthly sustainers and grants which will help us to expand our programming and provide more consistent stipends for interns and artists.

Tales From Dragon Inc. Chapter 5: Distraction

Zarc muttered under his breath as he looked at the doorbell cam outside the front door of his apartment from his office computer. His crazy ex from seven years ago was at his front door ringing the doorbell incessantly. What was wrong with her? It was 10AM on a Wednesday! Clearly he wasn’t home!

Yuri walked into Zarc’s office with the monthly finance report. When he saw the look on the CEO’s face, he frowned. “What’s wrong?”

“Remember how I told you about my ex?” Zarc said. Yuri thought for a moment. “Which one? Ray?” Zarc shook his head. “No, Casey.”

“Oh, the crazy one. She’s the one that keyed your car because you gave her red roses when you first met her in person instead of pink ones, right?” Yuri said. Zarc nodded. “Yeah, that’s the one. She apparently remembers where I live even after seven years, and she’s at my front door right now, ringing my doorbell nonstop.”

“What the hell?” Yuri walked over to Zarc’s desk and looked at the computer screen. Casey was now banging on the door and shouting for Zarc. “What is wrong with her?”

“She’s insane,” Zarc sighed. Yuri nodded and sat down on top of the desk, crossing his legs elegantly. “Wasn’t she like… American or something? You were in a long-distance relationship for six months before you met in person, right?”

“Yeah, and she moved back to America when we broke up a month later,” Zarc replied. “Actually I had to contact her parents and get them to come to Japan and drag her back home because she was refusing to leave me alone. They said they wouldn’t let her leave the country again for at least five years. But apparently she still hasn’t forgotten my address.”

“Maybe it’s time to move to a new home,” Yuri suggested. “I mean, you’ve been living in that apartment for almost eleven years, right? Maybe it’s about time to get a proper house.”

“You know, I’ve been considering it,” Zarc admitted. “I’d love to get a new place. My apartment is tiny, and I’ve had my eye on a few nice houses in the suburbs, as well as a few of the abandoned houses in the countryside.”

“Ooh, you know those abandoned houses often need heavy renovations,” Yuri said. Zarc nodded. “Yes I know, but I’ve found a few semi-decent ones. And I could renovate them into my dream home too!”

“True,” Yuri agreed.

A particularly loud scream of Zarc’s name from his ex on the camera startled Yuri into almost falling off the desk. It seemed that Casey had discovered the doorbell camera and was screaming into it. Zarc growled in frustration as he hit the mute button, and Yuri chuckled as he recovered from his mini heart attack. He began rubbing his foot against Zarc’s thigh, and walking his fingers up the CEO’s arm. “Looks like you could use a distraction~”

Zarc gazed into Yuri’s purple eyes and considered the implied offer. Then he leaned in close to the cabbage-head. “Try to stay quiet this time, my sweet blossom~” he purred into Yuri’s ear, before kissing his neck. A delicate, barely noticeable shiver of excitement ran down Yuri’s spine. This was going to be fun!

Zarc kissed Yuri sweetly about an hour later as he helped the now exhausted and very satisfied cabbage button his shirt back up. “You’re always such a pleasure to love on, my dear. You sound so cute trying to stay quiet.”

Yuri blushed, still trying to catch his breath. “Sh-shut up… I’m not cute,” he mumbled, but Zarc could see him trying not to smile at the sweet compliment. Yuri may act like a jerk to most people in public, but he loved being complimented and showered in affection by his boyfriends.

Besides, the hour-long spicy session definitely did its job of distracting Zarc from his problems. The next time he looked at the cameras, he saw his ex being escorted away from his apartment door by security.
