day four of universi-tea’s back to school challenge: your study essentials!

my favourite pens and pencils (muji .35mm, papermate clear point mechanical pencil 0.5mm)

8tracks!!! I live for unique playlists that help me think. I love my music but listening to Claire De Lune every day makes studying seem boring. 

water. Lots and lots of water. Not only does water help you study by keeping you hydrated and alert but it’s just a good habit to get into. My trainer always has a bottle of water by her side because she knows she will drink it if it’s accessible. Try to always have water in a convenient place.

a snack that is definitely healthier than a cheeseburger. I usually go for an Oikos triple zero Greek yogurt, a tortilla with PB Fit, some assorted fruit, or a Quest bar. It’s important to remember that academics should be a priority but they shouldn’t come before your health. Don’t let stress or anxiety trick you into eating junk.

my laptop and my phone. I have a 13″ MacBook Air and an iPhone 6s that I adore. I use FocusTimer on my phone to make sure that I don’t get distracted and I use the Pomodoro method of 25 minutes on and 5 minutes off to make sure that my brain gets a break.

my favourite notebooks and stationery. I get a lot of people asking me why I buy pricier notebooks and stationery and the honest answer is that I cannot stand using bad quality paper. I find that it distracts me and irritates me so spending that little bit of extra money on nicer supplies helps me meet my goals.

a winning attitude. It’s cliche but it’s absolutely vital to be positive while studying. Find some way to make it fun and enjoyable because school is a major part of many peoples lives and if you can’t find a way to make it cheery then you’re probably going to have a rough go at it.

What happened this week: ¤ finally found a cinema that doesn't dub their English language films. Went to see La La Land and the tickets were reasonably priced and I enjoyed myself. Came away feeling like I did after The Artist. Wanted to dance my way home. ¤ went to a language exchange meet up and ended up having the same conversation eight times, explaining where Bermuda is, the currency we use, the population, history and demographics. No, I'm not scared of 'flying through the triangle'. It's NOT A THING. So I was pretty grumpy and I didn't practise my Spanish. ¤ I've been getting cagey when people ask me where I'm from because once I say Bermuda, I'm stuck. Every attempt to change the subject gets ignored. I'm tired of giving back story and a history/politcs lesson. I've discovered if I lie and say something like 'London' or 'Connecticut' people don't press and we move onto other subjects pretty fast. ¤ in London some guy asked me for directions and was convinced I was Irish. He pinned my accent as 'from the West Country'. When I assured him I wasn't, he told me to embrace my roots. It was 4am so I didn't quibble. ¤ I bought the most comfortable trainers from MUJI. White ones that look a little too pristine. Need to dirty them up. ¤ been impressively frugal and cut down on my grocery spending. No wasted food this month and only one bag of non-recyclable trash. ¤ my company class reports were 'perfect'. Praise is thin around here so I'll take what I can get.
