Homestuck Mythical Creature au / Cryptid Au

Very tempted to make an ask blop :p need to see if anyones inch rested

thought processes under the cut (bc some choices are wild)

Johns a pooka, an irish fae trickster who shapeshifts into animals. his favorite form is the bunny. john and jane are both fae, so their pranks range from harmless to mentally scaring to life altering. absolute chaos grimlins. dirk is also an irish myth, so he knows them well and is often trying to get them to not ruin the local population of humans. so they do pranks on him insted. john loves to steal dirks head and hide it places.

rose speaks to the eldritch horrors and is slowly becoming one herself. she wants to become a litch.

Dave is a harpy! a very chill one who doesn't tend to sing with his full chest, so people dont start crashing into his doorstep. dave dies in some magic accident that caused davesprite to rise up from the ashes. but dave harpy is ALSO fine no ones really sure how. may have been roses doing.

Jade is a werewolf obv. but shes also a witch and has formed a coven with rose and roxy.

Jane is ur avrage fae faerie/sprite. her favorite fae rule to get people to break is "dont eat their food."

Roxy is both a cat who is also a wizard i need not elaborate

Dirk is a headless horseman. not to be confused with THE headless horse man. thats another dullhan with a well paying halloween gig. dirk is often subject to losing his head, so he made a magic pumpkin to pilot the body when this happens. he does have a very large and scary but beautiful horse.

Jake is the bigfoot. and one of the most well hunted (and well travled) cryptids. thus, his friends often make jokes of not ever seeing him except in blurry images. its not his fault hes very large and loves to travel! and is also not very photogenic...

Aradia is a monthra!!! however she made a deal with a devil and became a ghost... not sure WHY yet or why it kills her. but it does. its all in her plan or smth, but that doesnt stop sollux from being very upset that hes the one that has to take and keep her soul. she is reserected later by the coven, still soulless but it doesnt matter bc her soul is in good hands and thus she still feels it. shes much happier now.

Tavros is a minotar self explanatory he is a small minotar, tho. a mini minotar if u will.

Sollux is ur run of the mill soul for potato chip demon. an excuse to give him twin tails and horns. him an kitkat gave me the most trouble! but then i went with a solkat devil angel motifi and im kinda attached t9 it now. even if its sorta a cop out. i simply couldnt find twin creatures that werent gods or children of gods. nor any crab creatures...

Karkat is an angel. he WAS human notably he was human for awhile even good friends with kanaya before he died. he never found love but helped so many with theres that he became an angel that was a lot like cupid. thus he was a small angel incharge of match making and also likened to a baby and hes very much NOT happy about this. it pisses him off, solluxs often gives him a hard time. about it. (extra angst is that kitkats also really fucked up about never knowing what love felt like but having to give it to others. and he has it in his head that that means he never will know, bc no ones matchmaking the matchmaker. but theres a song he hears everyonece anwhile by a stray harpy that makes him feel a lot lighter.)

Nepeta is my go to cat creature a nekomata. a two tailed cat yokai.

Kanaya is a vampire. obviously.

Terezi is a dragon! still blind! still licks. but can now transform and has wings, very scary. shes basiclly just her lusus lmao.

Vriska is a spider lady. i have arachne here bc its similar, but shes not arachne the myth proper. shes just a spider with the top part of a woman at the head. A Jorogumo a spider lady yokai and is basically actually what im picturing.

Equius is a centar and fuck if i ever have to draw him....

Gamzee is a clowwwn, just a clown, just a silly lil guy. What do you MEAN clowns arnt mythical creatures??? what do u mean u saw him under ur bed when you were a child? u must be mistaken. as a nod to ICPs boogieman. when gamzee is not high as a kite and is just a clown, he is one of the most terrifying and unkillable creatures known to children kind.

Eridan is a selkie. basiclly a mermaid but part seal. personally, I'd like to make him part seahorse. but not in the hippocampus way. i chose this bc he can shapeshift, thus he pretends to be a high elf sorcerer, yes he does get dunked on about this.

And finally, Feferi is a siren! who happens to be able to become very VERY **VERY** BIG. she doesnt lure people to drown them but she DOES love to keep live captives in cages :)

Karkat doesn’t know how to help or provide comfort in a way that doesn’t involve yelling at Gamzee and Gamzee doesn’t know how to be present as someone Karkat can actually confide in. They’re both trying but it’s a perfect storm for how they eventually wind up. I just wish that they got to evolve together and have a happy ending and that Gamzee’s characterization didn’t dead stop at “evil clown scary”.

ooo im not much of a consumer of media but one of my favorites is homestuck !!!! ill talk abt it, but mind u im kind of horrible at talking abt my interests </3

im not that old of a homestuck fan (only got into it around 2020 i think) but FUUUUUCK its such a huge part of my life and probably my longest hyperfixation, might even be a special interest with how much i still think abt it at random intervals or small associations

im honestly a little of scared of falling back into my hyperfixation of it though ? theres a few small reasons but i think its mostly just me being scared of commitment to anything as always (which is probablt also why i barely consume media) . recently i was REEEALLY close to but new ccquackity/ccwilbur activity dragged me away to safety lmfao (if u could even call a dsmp/tntduo hyperfixation safety)

smth i rly love abt homestuck is the way its so incredibly focused on characterization rather than story

like YES it does have a great story but its clearly messy n weird n hussie just kind of throws anything up in the air and just the dumbest shit ever can happens, and while that is aswell smth i absolutely fucking love - the characters r a way bigger deal n more interesting than anything the story will conjure up, and thats definitely my favorite way of writing media

cause like, yknow, good characters can absolutely save a bad story, but a good story cant rly save bad characters

plus theres so many characters and theyre all so well written that its easy to find a fan for each of them

my favorite character is 100% gamzee, im so fucking normal abt him, like oh my god i love that dude so much and the little idealized version of him i have inside my head lmao . mostly the earlier stuff is what i like of him though

fun fact ! hes part the reason im not scared of clowns anymore . i used to be terrified of clowns so when i first read homestuck i thought he was the most annoying freak in the world and DESPISED him, until i started looking more into purplebloods and gradually liked gamzee more until suddenly clowns r now my entire personality

i have so many reasons to love gamzee, but a lot of it has to do with just the plain fact i relate to him and when i see him i go "damn hes just like me fr" . like just . idk . his mannerisms n the way he dresses n looks r pretty similar to mine nowadays - except the whole "murderous instincts" thing, i think . and because of the way i havent read the comic in a while this self projection has really marinated itself

other favorite characters of mine are roxy, jade, kurloz, aradia, meenah, and calliope . plus, hes not a favorite but: when i got into homestuck i used to be a way louder energetic person, so my friends would say i was literally karkat, which infuriated the hell out of me x)

classpects is one of my biggest interests in homestuck, i fucking love them so much, im such a personality wizard i will latch onto anything personality related so hard . theyre great for initiating 60 page analysis on favorite characters (or ocs) and are so amazing for characterizing ocs its crazy, and aswell as to just classpect friends or random funny shit . i love them !!

in fact once i made an entire analysis to my friends as to why mosquitos r thiefs of blood, and there were so so so many more reasons than just the funny idea of classpecting a mosquito something called "THIEF of BLOOD"

though what i think a lot of ppl forget though is that while yes theyre heavily based on personality, theyre based on narrative aswell, which is why a real person can never have 1 set classpect all throughout their life since we well dont know the narrative we live in, we dont know our paths or our conclusions or how we'll end up and thats an important thing to know when classpecting since the way to godhood in sburb is a personal journey to self improvement, yknow ?

(though ofc if u wanna classpect solely based on personality go right ahead . the world is yours)

in this era of my life id consider myself a maid of space (which is a cool as fuck classpect and gets me the coolest powers EVER !!!!!!), but 1-2 years ago i considered myself a rogue of blood, then a rogue of rage, then a rogue of space (i was very rogue-ey), plus a few others here n there, and if i were to classpect myself from 3-4 years ago i would be a witch of rage/blood

i just think seeing the way change happens and the way we can see that change through a silly lens such as classpects is cool . with the way my obsessions work im obviously gonna look at the world with anything that associates with my interests in the back of my head, so im gonna start classpecting something like a glass jar if i take a look at it, and thats fun as hell !!

ive changed a lot throughout the years just as everyone does and im gonna continue changing, so who knows what classpect i end up with in another year or two ! its fun to think abt

Favorites rn are Jade, the Carapacians (especially Jack Noir and Peregrine), Nepeta, Terezi, Vriska and Roxy (I love women moment)

I actually really love acts 1-3 and it reminds me a lot of a show i like called RWBY, where the first three seasons are chill and then the tension ramps with higher stakes. Big fan of looking back at the past and crying cause the characters were so innocent back then.

As an archival reader myself I loved the alpha kids. They're fun!!! They're delightful little idiots. I'm deeply curious about your opinions on Jake English, actually. I've been known to have what some people might refer to as strong opinions on him. Incredibly strong opinions on one particular aspect of him that may only be implied in canon but like guys it's so incredibly heavily implied in canon I'm obsessed with it.

Hope you're having as much fun with act 6 as I did when I first read it which. Ok admittedly I didn't like act 6 as much on my first readthrough because the specific flavor of romance drama was Not as engaging to me but in retrospect I really love it.

I like Prospitcest but its not my favorite pairing for either of them. For John i like him with Roxy and for Jade theres really no one besides Dave i like her with, and I like him with Rose better obviously lmao.

Like, I like all the seasons, but it's weird for me to call one of them my favourite. Though, we can safely eliminate season 1 as (even though I still like it and rewatch it sometimes) I feel like it's the weakest season and the lies are pretty amplified even compared to Roxy.

Now we’re left with seasons 2 & 3. I’d say they’re both my favourite for different reasons.

For season 2, it’s just objectively the best?? I love the songs of the other seasons, but season 2 has the best overall. A lot of the characters are at their personal best (maybe I’m just thinking of Vilu as I love her in s2 much more than 3, but Angie also had some development from the last season of year-long lies). The plotlines are some of the best in the whole show, from the Madrid plot that everyone loves to the small ones like the teachers’ therapy. And although this season has issues like the other seasons (especially episode 59), it had way fewer compared to s1 & 3.

For season 3... It’s most people’s least favourite season, but if there was a love-hate slider thing for it, mine would have a bigger love section... if that makes sense. To be fair, I did reach a point where I would skip a lot of scenes yet would still get the plot (they were mostly Gery & Clement and Jade & Matias scenes + some scenes where I couldn’t handle Priscila anymore). As literally everyone who follows me knows, Ludmila is my favorite character and she was what kept me motivated to watch the next episodes. Her arc is so well done?? It’s very surprising how much they got right with her compared to almost everything else in the season, including her relationships with Naty, Vilu, and (surprisingly again) Germán. And although Priscila is still an asshole, she is such a well written character both as a villain and an abusive parent. It’s like they put all their attention on Ludmi and crammed writing for every other character right before they were supposed to be filming. Apart from her, the songs are great too, the cinematography is great (I was very shocked when I saw episode 1 and the shots of the tour and Germán and his car were gorgeous), the wardrobes (for the girls lmao) are *chef kiss*, and idk, it’s quite funny. This season does have problems that I can’t name right now because there’s so many, but I tend to see the good more when it comes to this show.

(It looks like season 3 should be my favourite judging by how long that paragraph is, but, again, it feels weird calling any of them my favourite. Also, most of the bulk comes from my love for Ludmi because. I. am. predictable. 🤪👐)

oh! uhh

for fave artist, i gotta go abba man. their stuff just vibes so hard. i love how like. Full the sound is. and! i love how they bounce around different styles. theyre very well known for their disco, but they have some jazzier music, as well as more folky stuff- and its all REALLY GOOD.

as for genre, im kinda the same as u- i just jive to whatever is a bop. i do tend to prefer less polished sounds tho. i feel like allotta musicians essp popular ones with big production teams will get caught up in refining every last instrument and vocal until it just sounds like the audio equivilent of the instagram face smoothening filter.

i love music thats unrefined. theres humanity in a voice fraying on a straining note, a buzzy guitar chord bc they didnt press down hard enough on the fret. a humanity you lose when you file down all the imperfections.

folk punk is really good at that. there tends to be a 'recorded this in my car because my roomates are sleeping inside and you can hear the ac blowing bc its 90 degrees outside' quality to it.

of course thats not 2 say that NO refinement is the way 2 go. ive heard some dogshit music in my time. i think theres a balance ukno

anyway something ELSE folk punk is really good at is the Emotion of it all.

i think that the point of music is to capture emotion. not a very original take, but a take nonetheless. and a really powerful way to Convey Emotion is w a Story.

i mean you can argue that ALL songs tell stories because something something chord progressions have implied stories something something "leaving home" on the 5th something "coming home" on the root chord- and yeah i agree with that

but theres something lovely abt a song that talks about Doing Something you knoe? one that carves out the Feeling with Action.

it's a shame about the discourse happening on your blog right now but if it makes you feel any better it made me dig back to the essay you made about jade and agency and it really made me feel a ton better about jade... dave and karkat's relationship means a lot to me so for a while i didn't know how to feel about jade at all after reading candy, plus at the time the epilogue released so many people said so many things and many jade fans pushed out hot takes i didn't agree with-

-so for a while just seeing her felt stressful, but reading your essay reminded me of the pure love i have for her along with the whole cast of homestuck and how happy her part in collide made me when i analyzed it :') i love how it put what she did in candy in perspective as a whole... so thank you so much!

Aw, thank you very much! I... Actually forgot I had made that Jade essay, lmao, but yeah, Jade is, alongside Roxy, my FAVORITE character, not even in Homestuck, they two may rank as my two favorite characters in all fiction, ever. Of course I want to see her be happy and not mess up, but that’s not what the Epilogues are about, sadly. They’re precisely about people having grown up and fucking up because they’re all messed up in various ways. The Candy Timeline is also much rougher than the Meat Timeline in terms of shit going down, and spans a much, much longer timeframe so like, a lot of people cling to the shit that happens in Candy like the only outcome long-term instead of seeing it as the FUCKED UP everything that it is. I can absolutely see why people would be stressed and worried about a lot of the Epilogues, but like. Have you guys seen the Homestuck^2 team at large? I am absolutely NOT worried about what’s going to happen, because I know there’s going to be resolution and catharsis, because the WP Team is honestly full of people that genuinely love Homestuck and these characters. That doesn’t mean there’s not going to be things to HURT about, but like... It doesn’t have to be all perfect and roses, so long as there’s the emotional payout.

The Epilogues were draining, because it ended on a bleak note. Because it was never meant to just be an end to anything. It ended leading directly to the events that are still being written in Homestuck^2. And I’m waiting for the moment Jade wakes up and tells the Universe and Narrators to FUCK OFF and let her be healthy.
