When it's feeding time and I bring her bowl upstairs, Bennet is always far more interested in snuggling than eating. She's come a long way from the little feral who wouldn't let us touch her for years!!

Sasori could see your approach from down the block, knowing it was only a matter of time before his house was next. He sat on the front steps of his rickety, old porch, reluctantly passing out handfuls of candy to children until Hidan stepped up for his turn, you in tow.
“Trick or treat!” you exclaim, only to be met with Sasori’s silence. Hidan stood to your left with a severe scowl.
“The hell are you supposed to be?” Hidan scrunched his nose, lowering the two pillowcases in his hands. Sasori pointed toward his construction paper ears.
“A cat, stupid,” he scoffed, tossing a single piece of candy into Hidan’s outstretched bag. “You just missed Chiyo. She went to brew more apple cider.” Hidan plucked out the candy, inspecting the wrapper with a frown.
“Can I get something else? I fucking hate chocolate.” He tried to offer it back, but Sasori swiftly swatted his hand away.
“You get what I give you. Now get out of here—” He gestured to the line of kids that were beginning to line up behind Hidan. “You’re holding up the line, and the longer you stand here, the longer I have to sit here.”
“Fine,” Hidan sighed, tossing the chocolate bar back into his pillowcase. He reluctantly offered the one in his other hand. “At least give the ghost some.” Hidan gestured to his side, sparing you a glance for emphasis. Sasori stared at the spot you stood, slowly blinking before returning to Hidan.
“Did you forget to take something you should have?” Sasori frowned, craning his neck to get a better look at the spot again. “Or did you take too much of something you shouldn’t have?” Hidan shoved the pillowcase in front of Sasori’s face and shook it. The fabric depicted a pattern of little ghosts wearing various hats.
“Sasori, c’mon, just spare a little candy for the ghost. A real, genuine ghost is about as spooky as you get,” Hidan huffed, rolling his eyes. Exasperated, he stared up toward the sky.
“I want the blue ones.” You tugged at Hidan’s sleeve.
“The ghost requests the blue ones,” he repeated. With one last look of skepticism, Sasori reluctantly relinquished two candies in the requested color. You watched them drop into your pillowcase with wonder.
“Thank you!”
“The ghost says thank you.” You immediately shot off, hovering to the next house, leaving Hidan to chase you across the street. He knocked over a flowerpot. Sasori stood on the wooden steps, yelling obscenities after him, much to the displeasure of quite a few parents.
“Tell your ghost to kiss my ass!”
***
The houses down the street were far flashier. The one you were most excited about had an excessively large porch at the front of the house. About ten people sat in costumes on rocking chairs while a grand Halloween bash raged indoors. People milled in and out, grabbing drinking and grilled food from the barbecue—the children who passed by the porch for candy left with their bags practically full.
Kisame clutched the wooden beams toward the roof, giving Hidan a nod and a smirk as he approached. His red jersey draped over his shoulders, leaving a large gap for his arms. “WILDCATS” was printed on the front in bold, white lettering.
“Ay yo, Hidan! You’re a little old to be trick or treating, aren’t you, my guy?” he called with a snicker. Hidan threw up his hands in defeat. The path to the porch was still too crowded.
“It’s not me! It’s the ghost!” he shouted from the street, gesturing next to him. Kisame glanced at the space with an apprehensive smile.
“Uh-huh!” He apprehensively acknowledged, sparing a quick look at Obito.
“What?” Obito mouthed. Kisame shrugged, dumping half a bowl of treats into a kid’s
candy bucket before Hidan finally got the chance to make his approach. Kisame held out his hand to dap him up before pulling him onto the porch with the rest of the crew.
“Nice Jashinist costume,” Kisame said, rewarding Hidan with a firm smack to his back.
“Who decided on the High School Musical theme?” Hidan chuckled, stepping back to check out everyone’s matching jerseys.
“Konan,” everyone on the porch said in unison. Hidan nodded from side to side. The information checked out.
“She didn’t want to do Gabriella alone,” Deidara added, bending down on one knee to shoot a volley of candy out of a t-shirt cannon. The ensuing cries were of excitement and pain as candies rained down on the kids crowded in the front yard. Deidara laughed. Monster Mash played in the background. “Tobi is the guy who says ‘I play the cello’ because he thought bringing a cello to a Halloween party was a good idea.”
“He was arrested for robbing a pizzaria!” Tobi turned around from where he was grilling in the driveway. A blond, curly wig sat on his hair. Hotdogs and hamburgers littered the grill, and a table was set out with buns and condiments. A few random chairs were arranged in a circle to allow parents and kids a place to sit. You hovered right over Hidan’s ear.
“That’s true!” you whispered, startling him. Kisame took a half-step back, looking at him with a furrowed brow. “I was there. I saw it!”
“Get back to grilling, Tobi!” Deidara yelled. “Pull!” The candy cannon went off again.
“You’re letting Tobi grill?” Hidan wiped at his ear, paying no mind to the looks exchanged between his friends. “Isn’t that… not smart?”
“It keeps him busy.” Kisame shrugged again before gesturing inside. “I know you said you were trick-or-treating for your friend.”
“Ghost,” Hidan corrected. “I’m being haunted by a ghost.” Kisame laughed aloud.
“Sure, guy. Grab yourself a drink. Stick around a little; we miss you.” Hidan didn’t protest, heading inside while your pillowcases miraculously grew fuller as the night went on.
Thank you to all who liked, reblogged, followed, and supported. Your support means so much and is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Little Cat Showdown!!!
This is a tournament to determine the best Little Cat out there!!! This is for all members of the Felidae family except for Felis catus and the Panthera genus. The bracket is based on the Wikipedia page for Felidae. This is a single-elimination 33 team bracket, and to make the numbers easiest all three lynx species will go against each other in the first round. All polls will be tagged with #little cat showdown poll. Polls will last one week and the first round begins today, May 4. The cats were seeded based on how popular I personally think they are, and how long I've known they exist.
The mascot of the tournament is my beautiful tiger boy Lunar Apples Module (Luna for short). He has never seen any of them in his life but you can clearly tell he's related to them by the way he majestically hunts crickets in the summertime (he is an indoor cat who goes on walks on a leash and I don't think he's ever even killed a cricket. he doesn't know what to do when he catches a cricket. he just gets confused. I love him so much)
Here is the bracket!!

Not Duke, Not Prince - Part 3
Billy | Teen | 1k words Alternate Canon/Divergence
Made for @billyhargrovebingo! Prev. | Part 1
Tumblr media
“A lion.”
Billy squirmed under Hopper’s icy gaze, though it was warmer than he let on. It sounded stupid when he said it like that, deadpan and tired, bored if Billy closed his eyes and listened. But he kept his eyes open, looking between the flat ceiling and the hat twirling in the Chief’s hand. “Yes, a lion, I’ve said that twelve times.”
“You hit a lion with your car.”
“It fucking ran in front of me!”
Billy took a deep breath, and then Hopper continued: “Hey, I’m not trying to piss you off, alright? You’re sure it wasn’t a mountain lion.”
“Christ, I’m sure. Probably escaped a zoo or some shit, I don’t know.”
“Well, I might agree if our zoo had an African lion, but it doesn’t, and the one that does still has it contained. So forgive my confusion.”
“I wasn’t on drugs, man.”
“You’ve also said that twelve times.”
“It’s true!”
“Then why were you driving around so late? You said, what, eleven at night? By yourself?”
Billy stilled and wished he were ten sizes smaller so Hopper would stop looking at him like that. Suspicious and crass, Billy hated that look. It reminded him too much of Neil. “Just getting out of the house,” he said, which wasn’t untrue.
“On a school night.”
“I graduated.”
“No job?”
“Fuck’s sake, Chief, what do you wanna hear? That I was sneaking out to buy heroin?”
“Were you?”
“No!” He moved his arm so fast that the IV nearly slipped right out, and Hopper held both hands up like he was taming a wildcat. Billy licked his molar, breathed a little, rolled his eyes, and said like it was a confession, “I had a date, okay?” In some ways, it was. Or it would have been if Hopper knew the whole story that dated back to San Diego, to the day his mother left, to the day he was born. There were days when Billy didn’t remember her name at all, only the face that disappeared along with every atom of hope he had left. In the time since, her golden hair turned rusty in his memory, but her eyes were still haunting. They were when she was alive too.
Hopper’s hands moved into a more inviting gesture. “See, that wasn’t so hard, was it? What’s her name?” Billy side-eyed him. “It was a her, right?”
“Yeah.” Another thing that made his stomach twist. “Just some chick from high school, alright, it doesn’t matter.”
“If it doesn’t matter, then you can tell me her name.”
He didn’t think too hard about it. “Nina Herrera.” Hopper nodded, still unimpressed.
“Easier when you don’t wanna strangle me, isn’t it?”
“Whatever.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.” He stood up and put his hat back on, straightening his cop-slacks as he cleared his throat. “Alright, I’ll come back tomorrow.”
Billy clearly didn’t come off as seriously as he hoped he would, asking, “I’m not done with you yet?” because Hopper laughed and shook his head.
“No, you’re not. Get some rest, kid.”
So he did.
Susan took Max to visit him after school, and Billy wished she hadn’t when he saw the look on Max’s face. She’d made it fourteen years without looking death in the eyes, and here she was, holding back tears for a step-brother who thought he’d be better off that way regardless. Susan left them alone; Max walked straight to the love seat to put her skateboard and backpack down, not having left it in the car for reasons Billy couldn’t begin to entertain. Standing by the hospital bed, hair frazzled and clothes uneven, she looked like a little kid.
“I’m okay, Max,” Billy said, because they’d been getting along fine since the summer. The relief of minuscule financial freedom made him less tense, working as an indoor pool boy during the winter months. It meant that Max wasn’t his void to scream into anymore, which meant things could resemble normal.
“No you’re not, asshole.” Her voice trembled with her hands, and Billy didn’t blame her. The gauze on his head was probably bled through, but otherwise he was unscathed, save for whatever head trauma he endured to think he’d seen a fucking lion. Maybe Hopper was right. Maybe it was a cougar after all.
“C’mon, I’ve been worse.” The sentiment was lighthearted, but she still shoved his thigh and hissed at him not to say that. He knew she’d seen worse as it happened and been the one to take care of it afterwards, but that was routine; that was something she’d gotten used to over the years. Billy was still home blasting music in his room, or she would hear the car outside if he was coming back. He made it to breakfast every morning because it was the most normal he could get.
“The nurse said you can come home in a couple days,” she said, and neither could quite decide whether that was a good thing or not. Billy would prefer his own bed to the hospital mattress, but the nurses were better than Neil. He’d have preferred Susan’s cooking, but hospital slop was better than blood.
“I’m sure I will. C’mere.” A weak hand reached out for Max to slip into, kneeling on the floor as Billy rubbed her back, combed through her hair with stiff fingers. Having another heartbeat so close to his made him feel strangely human again, not what remained of one. She was there. She cared about him, and he desperately needed to know that.
Max stayed at the hospital with him for a long while, reading to him and reluctantly letting him help with her homework. Neil and Susan were probably glad to get them both out of their hair, so they didn’t pick her up until ten. Susan brought some of his things so he wouldn’t be so bored by himself—his Walkman, a few books, his own shower supplies. Neil waited in his truck outside.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Billy,” Max told him with one last hug. He kissed her temple, and she rubbed it right off, but they both laughed about it as she left.
In the shower, which he convinced the nurse he didn’t need her help for—he wondered when he’d gotten so hairy.

Here to request again! Brainy and Nia ice skating, cute date prompt
- I'm sorry this is so late! But I hope you enjoy! x
It was official, Kara freezing over a whole lake was by far the coolest thing Nia had ever seen her use her ice breath for.
After the stresses of the last few weeks had finally accumulated to unbearable levels, it had become clear that the Super Friends were in need of a serious break. Somewhere that they could all go out and just relax. No Tower, no emergencies, no crime fighting and certainly no Super Friends. Just friends. Hanging out. Having a good time.
Everyone had agreed that they didn’t want to be cooped up indoors anymore, so karaoke or game night had been quickly removed from the equation. But, with the weather growing gradually colder, Kara had suggested a fun, day-time alternative.
In all honesty, Nia hadn’t expected that suggestion to be ice skating - and she really, really hadn’t expected there to be no rink involved.
She hadn’t exactly skated much in her life. Roller blading, sure, but Parthas hadn’t had a rink, and the only time she’d ever ice skated had been at a friend’s birthday party out of town.
If memory served, she’d fallen on her ass a graceful count of twelve times.
But, that was years ago. Besides, she was Dreamer, now, right? If she could master combat training with Brainy, or throw electrified energy across a room, then how hard could skating be?
The second she’d stepped foot on the ice, she got her answer.
“Don’t let go, okay?” Nia asked for what felt like the hundredth time that afternoon.
She’d been circling with Brainy around the outskirts of the lake for about an hour now, though with the little progress she’d made, it felt way longer than that. The grassy verge was right by her feet, and if she lost her balance, she knew that it’d be right there to cushion her fall, but she didn’t want to give up.
Alex and Kelly had been skating a little ways away, passing Nia and Brainy by every so often, holding hands, smiling and laughing, looking all couple-y. They could both skate well enough that neither one relied on the other to remain upright.
Nia couldn’t help but feel a little disheartened by that.
As she’d expected, Brainy was a natural when it came to ice skating. A skill that took balance and perfect form to master should have been a dead giveaway that she’d be skating with a pro; but, of course, he couldn’t exactly showcase those talents while he was stuck at her side, acting as the stabilisers to her proverbial bike.
And, Kara? Nia should have known that Kara would have been an expert at this, too. Although, Kara was spending less time on the ice and more of it trying to encourage Lena to come out and join them. Lena, however, had insisted she was perfectly happy to watch from the side lines, book sat comfortably across her lap.
Nia half wished she’d done that, too. But, now that she was out on the ice, she was not getting off until she’d at least figured out how to move in a straight line without risking serious injury.
Not that she was worried about getting injured. Brainy’s hand had remained on the small of her back the whole time she’d been on the ice, holding her posture in place, the warmth of his fingers secure against her spine. His other hand held tightly to her arm, helping to guide her forward, encouraging her to drag her feet in more natural motions to the ones she’d started out with.
“You’re improving,” Brainy noted with clear approval, a gentle smile in his voice. “Soon, you won’t need my guidance at all.”
Nia forced a smile of her own, trying her hardest to keep focused on the ice ahead of her. “I don’t think I’m ready for that yet,” she muttered.
“Are you sure?”
And, just like riding a bike, Brainy let her go.
Panic ignited in Nia’s chest the second she watched him disappear from her peripheral.
“What?” she squeaked. “No, no, Brainy, don’t let go! Don’t let go! Brainy!”
Nia threw her arms out ahead of her, which she realised a second too late was not a good idea. The whole action only threw her already teetering balance to the precipice of disaster. In vain, she tried to hold herself in the posture Brainy had been teaching her, locking her knees together at the last moment to keep from tripping face first into the ice. She was half inclined to use a bubble of dream energy as an emergency stopper.
She needn't have worried. Before she could even summon her powers, Brainy had swooped in around her again, using his ring to lift himself from the ice just enough that he effortlessly caught up to her, landing just inches ahead.
Nia made a sound somewhere between a gasp and a squeal as she knocked into his front – her own personal braking system.
She grabbed a hold of his chest, laughing into the fabric of his sweatshirt. “That was low,” she said.
“It worked, did it not?”
“Yeah! If by worked you mean nearly gave me a heart attack.” She laughed again, still feeling a little giddy from the adrenaline rush. Out of curiosity, she turned her head, quirking an eyebrow at the ground she’d covered. “Well, hey, look at that. At least I conquered straight lines.”
“Would you like to continue?” Brainy asked seriously. His hands slotted around her back, securing her to the spot when her foot slid a little too far out from under her. He lowered his voice. “We don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
“Do you want to?” Nia asked dubiously, glancing back towards him. “I’m guessing it’s not that much fun being my instructor.”
“On the contrary,” Brainy said, squeezing her tight. “I find it very fun.”
Nia looked up at him then, so taken by the sudden warmth in his eyes. She’d been so worried that Brainy hadn’t been enjoying himself that she’d nearly missed it, that excited look he got whenever he taught her a new move in combat or witnessed her improve upon a dream ability in real time.
He really was enjoying himself. Just by being by her side.
That realisation caused something to stir in Nia’s chest, swarming inside her stomach like butterflies. Maybe it was the chill of the ice talking, but something was telling her to lean in just a little closer - enough that she could feel Brainy’s breath graze her lips, so warm and inviting against her skin.
She closed her eyes, digging her fingers into Brainy’s sweatshirt, feeling his own hands tighten against her in response.
“Guys, if you’re going to make out, please do it somewhere you don’t get in the way!” Alex called out, jerking Nia from the moment all at once.
Alex was stood behind them, the whole rest of the lake totally empty had she really wanted to get past. Nia gritted her teeth, spinning around to glare at her. Alex only smirked, raising her hands in fake surrender.
“Oh, like you weren’t doing that with Kelly, like, five minutes ago!” Kara said as she shot past Alex on the lake, dousing Nia in an icy chill. “Do you know how difficult it is skating around you two? At least Brainy and Nia keep to the sides!”
Alex stuck her tongue out at her sister, of which Kara returned with matched enthusiasm.
Nia rolled her eyes, turning back to her boyfriend. Brainy still looked a little flushed, and from the heat still warming her cheeks, she figured she wasn’t doing much better.
She glanced down, taking Brainy's hand in hers, squeezing tight. “Alright, Wildcat. I’m ready,” she announced. “Let’s keep going.”
And hey, if Brainy could help her explore further from the lake's edge, maybe they could find a spot that would be way harder for Alex to intrude on.

2020 In Review
Hoo boy, here we go.
[Ok just before I begin. I had this queued to post in the first month of January but it doesn’t seem like that ever happened haha. Better late than never I suppose!]
So I am a nostalgic bitch, and since 2011, have loved to make memory boxes for each year, where I put trinkets and memories into a shoebox. This year I have continued that tradition, but I have also kept track of my happy memories throughout 2020 in my planner. This was done with the intention for me to upload a year-in-review sort of thing in hopes that maybe like, 3 people max on this god-forsaken site will read it. This sort of reminiscence was inspired by my friend @a-lbeit, who has done these for a few years now and me, as a slut for nostalgia, was encouraged to do the same back in January (I think? What even is my memory at this point?)
2020, as it has been for many, was a very shit year, and I am no different. I would safely say that this year has undeniably been the worst I have lived through. But I am here. I am present. And I have made it through some of the darkest times to face 2021 with a new sense of hopefulness. Keeping track of my happier memories has been something that has truly got me through this clusterfuck of a year, so I am glad that I can finally go through them all again and share them with you.
Read it, or don’t, I don’t give a shit what you do with your time, but if you do, I hope that you aren’t bored to tears. And I hope to keep myself accountable to continue to do this for years to come.
Buckle up, grab a hot drink and a snack and get comfy, because this is a JOURNEY.
January:
· Kicked the new year off with hosting a 1920’s themed party with some of my closest friends at my family home at the beach. Had fun with drunk SingStar, playing What Do You Meme, creating a playlist with everyone’s top 3 songs of the decade (it was a bangin’ playlist I must say), and just overall drinking too much and having a riotous time
· I remember going to the beach New Year’s Day (as is tradition in Australia) and playing ultimate frisbee in the shallows and completing a crossword puzzle on the sand (I am a 75-year-old woman, it is just a fact of life)
· I also had my friend Kirsten from South Australia stay with me for the New Year’s period and it was lovely to have a guest over! I haven’t spoken to her much this year, she sort of fell off the face of the planet, but I hope she is doing ok.
· Went town to Torquay (a beach town in Victoria) for the 6th time for Beach Mission, which is essentially a holiday program for kids in preschool-year 9 where we run activities for them. It’s a Christian-based program but the aim isn’t to convert the kids or anything like that, it’s more to show God’s love to them through our actions and how we as Christians live our lives. It’s also a convenient way for parents to dish their kids off for a few hours too haha. This was my final year of being a part of this program, and I am so pleased to have made so many memories and (hopefully) impacted many children’s lives during my time there
· I remember going on a late-night beach walk with my boyfriend Josh, talking about what the year had in store for us. We were just sitting on the beach, as you do, and I saw a shooting star. I can’t remember what I wished for (if anything) but in that moment, life was a dream.
· The week after beach mission I started at my new internship! It was for a place called KidsCo, who run school holiday programs at workplaces, so parents don’t need to take time off work to look after them. I helped with client relations and a lot of behind-the scenes stuff. I really loved it there
· On the very first day of my internship I remember there was torrential rain, and the train home was delayed by like, an hour or so lol
· One of the best parts about interning at KidsCo was that they were the official child-minding service for the Australian Open. I make an effort to go each year, but I was lucky enough to get free ground-entry for me and a guest for the duration of the event. I went quite a few times and got to take my mum and Josh along as well.
· Saw my only concert of the year, The Veronicas, at the Australian Open. When I say the moment the violin riff at the start of Untouched absolutely went the fuck off is an understatement. Grade 5 me would have cried (and 23 year old me did a little bit too tbh.) Yet another of one of my “all-time-favourite-songs” that I’ve had the pleasure of hearing live. (I also went through the year feeling sad that this was the first time in 11 years I hadn’t gone to a concert, but this one certainly fell through the cracks)
· Started planning my trip to the UK to see my twin sister, and best friend, Jess
· Went away to Rye for the Australia Day weekend #changethedate. An excellent time with excellent mates, and went to the beach pretty much every day and got mindlessly sloshed every night
· Listened to the Triple J Hottest 100. I think 4 of my picks made it in, which was pretty good
· Continued my job as the office manager/events coordinator at my church
February:
Basketball started back after the summer break for my two different teams, The Vikings and The Wildcats (honestly such a highlight of this year with how the rest of it ended up going)
As a team-bonding activity at KidsCo we hired a boat for a few hours and I got more drunk that I had been for a while. It was a very fun time jetting down the Yarra, waving drunkedly at the people jogging by
For Valentine’s day Josh and I had an indoor picnic with our favourite food! The weather was shit for Feb, hence the indoor nature of the picnic
Saw Shrek the Musical with two of my closest pals, Bec and Katie (I honestly forgot that this happened in 2020 hahaha) but it was ICONIC
Had a Jackbox night with The Boys
Had my cousin Amy from England over for dinner! I hadn’t seen her in 5 or 6 years, so it was so lovely to connect again like no time had passed at all
Went to Healesville Sanctuary, a lovely conservation park which focuses on preserving and educating its visitors about Australian animals, with Amy
Went to mini-golf for a friend’s birthday on the leap day. He technically celebrated his 6th birthday which was excellent
Saw Cody Ko and Noel Miller live with Bec and Katie
Finished working at the church office to make room for the potential job opportunity at KidsCo
March:
Ahhh March, you shitstorm of a month. This is where everything started going downhill.
The first thing of note that happened this month was me injuring my ankle at basketball, which had me out of action for a few weeks. It was especially bad because I was nearing the end of my internship and was hoping to do my best work so that I would be chosen to stay on as an employee, but had to take a week or so off to rest my ankle. My ankle would continue to be tender and sore for most of the rest of the year
Went away for the Labour Day long weekend with the family
Finished up my internship at KidsCo. Honestly was lead to believe that I would be staying on as an employee and felt sort of betrayed after all the work I did for them, but whatever
Had a party at Bec’s house to listen to Triple J’s Hottest 100 of the Decade. One of my favourite songs was number 1 which was a pleasant surprise
Went down to the holiday house for a few days just to have so me time and sort myself out
Animal Crossing New Horizons came out haha. Honestly was one of the highlights of this year though. I stayed up until midnight so I could download it as soon as it was available because that’s the sort of person I am
Mum’s birthday dinner with Dani, one of my best friends, and her girlfriend Amy
Went for a hike at Sugarloaf Reservoir with Josh and got spooked by a mob of kangaroos
April:
My mental health started really taking a downward spiral this month for multiple reasons which I won’t get into here, but this is more a note to my past self to say that it will all be ok I guess? Idk I just felt like this needed to be here
Did my ankle badly again on Good Friday
Watched the Overwatch League live with my friends and just memed in the livechat lmao
WARNING - this is a bit TMI but I am going to share anyway since it was a big part of this year, and if you are reading this you are either a stranger or a good friend so I really don’t care lmao: This month I also started to get bad pains in my uterus, like, not period pains but deep, stabbing pains. This continued on for the next few weeks without me doing anything about it, except for increasingly getting stressed about it, although I will talk a bit more about this later.
Josh and I celebrated our 6th year together which was ~wholesome~
Called my friend Ashley from the US and just caught up. It was nice to see her face again. She is a good egg. I haven’t talked to her since but I really hope she’s ok.
May:
Watched Star Wars with Josh and his family for “May the 4th”
Started a volunteer job at Kivuli, a non-for-prophet that is based in Kenya, and started helping out with their website and social media stuff
Zoom movie time with my friends, we watched How To Train Your Dragon I think? Athough everyone was talking over the movie so I didn’t really get anything out of it
Played Scattergories (one of my favourite games) with Bec and Jess on zoom and just wrote really stupid and funny answers and I remember this being just what I needed
Went for a long walk with mum and one of her friends and her daughter on a track we don’t usually go on, which was a nice change of scenery
Went down to the holiday house for the first time in forever since restrictions were eased, at least for a little while lol, with the fam
Went to Portsea for a walk along the beach with Bec and her husband Trevor
Did an online trivia night that night with a big bunch of friends
Had a doctor’s appointment to see what was goin’ on down there. Honestly freaked that it could be something REALLY bad. Got booked in to have an ultrasound the next week, so at least I’d be finding out what was wrong soon.
The day after I got my results was the 21st of May, the day my mum and I were meant to be flying out to the UK to see my sister and her boyfriend. It was already hard enough a month or so before when I had to cancel my flight, but this day was so SO difficult. I can’t remember the last time I cried so hard. I am so blessed to have a boyfriend like Josh though. He was by my side the whole day, and held me as I cried. Oh man I am crying as I write this now, it was such a hard time but I know I will see my sister again.
And then the day after THAT whole ordeal was my birthday, which was meant to be spent in London with Jess but it turned out to be the first birthday we’ve had apart. This day was also hard, but made better by being with loved ones and having dinner at my grandma and grandpa’s house. Grandma’s roast potatoes make everything better.
Went to Geelong to see the other side of my family, it was so good to see my nan again. I love her very much.
Went to the Briars with Bec and went on a lovely nature walk and saw a lot of little wallabies and even an emu
Had an ultrasound and my pain turned out to be a 10cm wide cyst!!! So fun!!!!! Thank the heavens it wasn’t a child. I was so relieved. It is still in my body so that’s cute tho.
June:
Applied for a bunch of jobs, and even got a few interviews! Still no job.
The absolute highlight of this month, and maybe even the whole year, was going away to Lake’s Entrance and Yarram with mum, dad and Josh. It was so good to go to the country, I love country towns so much and the wildlife and nature is so beautiful in the eastern part of Victoria. If you ever get the opportunity I recommend going there!
We ate so much nice food and just relaxed. It wasn’t a perfect replacement for not going to Europe, but it was something at least.
Did more work for Kivuli which kept me busy
Went to Bec’s house to bake a cake. She came out to me as bi this day too, and the cake was coloured like the bisexual flag!
Started a short course through the university I went to in Facebook for Business. It was a great way to build up my skills.
Played Animal Crossing with Dani’s little sister, Tami, a very wholesome time
Looked after Josh’s dog Jed while his family went away for the weekend (also went into the start of July) and was honestly the greatest time
July:
Halfway through the year. Thank fuck.
Had another job interview
Went on lots of walks
Was just generally cold
Did a lot of cleaning
Painted the downstairs rooms at church, which took a few days and a lot of back pain, but it’s cool to think that I was able to contribute my energy and time to something while I was not feeling good at all
The restrictions were tightened again, meaning that I couldn’t go further than 5kms away from my house, except to see Josh, so this was a really lonely time for me.
Really got into Masterchef with mum this season. They had all returning contestants from other seasons so that was really fun to watch.
Got and assembled a new couch upstairs that I can say I actually own myself. I absolutely love it.
More walks, despite the cold
This was a very uneventful month, but that’s ok!
August:
Had a call with the hospital I’ll be having my cyst surgery with. It was good to know that things would be started. I had to have a blood test and a second ultrasound then put on the waiting list for surgery. Still no sign on when that will be happening though 6 months later. Just so lucky to live in Australia where all of these appointments are free.
Went for a really nice long walk with Josh. Got shat on by a bird.
Did lots of stuff around the house, just tidying and watering the plants and sorting through my wardrobe to purge all the clothes I grew out of
Had an online Switch games night with some friends which was fun. We played Smash Bros. and Mario Kart and just had a great time!
Ok this sounds super lame but my favourite podcast, The Jenna & Julien Podcast, finished forever which came as a surprise and was just really sad. I really hope it comes back one day.
Did my tax return lmao
Baked rice puff/marshmallow bar things
Made an ASOS order to fill my happiness with material things. Did get some cute clothes and lingerie tho 😉
More games with Bec and Jess, we played Golf With Your Friends this time
Had a cocktail night with Josh, where we just made a bunch of fun cocktails and got drunk. I can’t wait to live with him so we can do this all the time.
Lots of Kivuli work, as we are planning for our 10th anniversary fundraising event
September:
Baked cookies, which was something I did a lot at the start of lockdown but sort of drifted away from. I absolutely love to bake.
Started working for Media-Wize, a small PR company that was started by someone I know at church.
Started playing Among Us at the start of the month
So many Among Us nights omg, just call me queen impostor please
Did my induction for Media-Wize
Got  n e r v o u s  because I kept getting things wrong in my new job. I always seem to fuck up the good things and opportunities that I get
Did a livestream reading of The Great Gatsby on my friend’s Twitch stream. It was really fun and something I had never done before. I voiced Tom Buchannan, which was interesting but cool to sort of get into the character. I hope to do something like this soon.
I burnt my hair while cooking dinner and had to give myself a haircut lmao. It was the first time since 2018 that I had cut it so it was a long time coming anyway.
So much Media-Wize work. It felt good to finally be getting paid to do a job
Got locked out of my bathroom so I had to climb up the laundry chute to unlock it from the inside, all because a fly outsmarted me (it’s a long story… and honestly best told by speaking it)
October:
Had the Kivuli 10th anniversary livestream. Lots of work went into it and it was so much fun! It’s incredible that a non-for-profit that has benefitted so many children and families is still going strong. Such a blessing to see.
Dad’s birthday, and we had a picnic with grandma and grandpa and saw them for the first time since lockdown was somewhat lifted
Walked to Beasley’s nursery with Josh and got a coffee. This was the first proper, not McCafe coffee I had had in months and it was SO good
Played Animal Crossing with Dani
More Among Us, a theme for the last few months of 2020
Watched the AFL Grand Final. Wasn’t super exciting this year tbh, especially since we couldn’t have a BBQ or party or anything, but hopefully next year will be different
Nearly moved out of home with a friend of a friend, but since I didn’t have a job, didn’t think it would be a wise decision. Would’ve been nice though
Did some more Media-Wize work. I haven’t been given anything to do since this time though, so I don’t know what’s going on with that? They really be ghosting me tho.
Applied for JobSeeker so I would at least be getting a little income
New Jackbox came out, and had a games night with The Boys playing all the new games
Voted in the local election
Went to Westerfold’s Park with Josh for a lovely long walk
Played lots of The Sims 4 (but tbh I have been doing this all year)
November:
This month things sort of started to turn around, as Covid wasn’t hitting my state hardly at all, so I was actually able to see family and friends again!
Went to my old primary school with Dani and played basketball and just shot around and talked. She also came over for dinner. It was so nice, and she is a true friend.
Had a picnic at the park at the top of the street with my dad’s side of the family, all together at last
Melbourne Cup Day, not that I really care but it’s nice to get a day off. Went on a day trip to the Dandenong mountain range. It was so, so nice and bought some lovely little things from local shops, went for a bushwalk and had a bakery lunch
Went to the park to throw the frisbee and kick the footy around with Josh and his friends, although they are my friends too tbh
Had a picnic with a group of friends that I hadn’t seen since January, so it was so, so good to catch up with them and have a delicious BBQ dinner
My favourite online comedy group, Aunty Donna’s Netflix series came out! Had a virtual watch party with a few friends and binge watched it all in one go
Had lunch with grandma. This used to be a weekly occurrence but for obvious reasons was put off for this year. I absolutely adore her and every lunch we spend together is so precious to me
Went to Kyneton with some of the family as another day trip
Christmas shopping time again. So weird to be at the shops and feel sort of normal? I went 4 different times in the span of a week and a half haha
Josh’s birthday! We went to this maze place with has a bunch of big mazes and other fun activities. It was such a perfect day. Then we had dinner with his family.
Got a letter from the IRS saying that I needed to provide them with proof of identity, so that was fun trying to sort that out. We love the outdated US tax system <3
Went to a bridal shower for my friend Katie
Went for another hike with Josh to the mountains
Drove down to Geelong for a friend’s wedding and stayed at my nan’s house
Had a pub dinner and Jackbox night while down in Geelong with The Boys
A good friend of mine was leaving to live in Japan for two years, so I went to her house one last time to say goodbye and chill in her pool and just hang out
God why is it so hard to get a job?
December:
Omg we have made it to December. It truly is a miracle with how this year went tbh. And if you have read this far, thank you but also, how little of a life do you have?
Went to my friend Katie’s wedding. Sort of surreal to go to a wedding during a pandemic but it was fun and I got to see a lot of friends I hadn’t seen in a while
Enjoyed the hot weather and went to the beach a number of times with a variety of friends
Went Christmas shopping, and just shopping in general since it was safe to and shops had finally opened again
Got a job at a talent agency where you get gigs as a paid extra in TV shows and movies, which was pretty cool! I even had a professional photoshoot to get headshots done, something that I had never done before. Glad that I could get some pictures to use on LinkedIn though haha. Still haven’t been cast in anything but here’s hoping.
Had dinner and drinks with Josh, Bec and Trev in the city for the first time since it reopened. God I love Melbourne so much. It is just so magical on balmy summer nights. This was such a special evening, and was so good just to be in the city again
Had a lovely day with Dani, starting with breakfast and then going on a hike before the weather got too hot. We went to Sherbrooke Forest, a place I hadn’t been before, and it was incredibly beautiful
Had a number of job interviews this month too, none of which got back to me which was annoying :/
Now it was heading into the time where every weekend is packed with Christmas do’s so I’ll just collate them in this point. Lots of drinks were consumed and many delicious roast dinners
Had our annual Christmas Carol’s service at church. It was a blessing to be back in the building for the first time since March, and to be able to do something I love (singing) with some of my best friends was the best
Christmas eve I went to my grandma and grandpa’s house (on dad’s side) to help them set up for Christmas lunch. Spending time together just the three of us is so special, and I am so glad I was able to come over and just chat and be in their loving presence. Then that night I went to our 11pm church service to bring in Christmas day. It was a great service and was great to see our kick-ass minister give a sermon face-to-face.
Ok here we go, Christmas was a doozy, let’s go. So Christmas lunch was, as I said, with my dad’s side of the family, which is always a great time. Cracking open crackers and fighting over who’ll get the bottle opener or nail clippers is always a highlight haha. But we had the fucking best roast potatoes I swear. I need to know what my grandma puts into them because I could genuinely eat 20 of them and still have space. Then the rest of the afternoon was spent in a food coma until I went to Josh’s house to spend dinner with his family. Another delicious meal and great banter was what I needed, although I can safely say that I put on at least 5 additional kilos after that day.
The next day the fam and I headed to Geelong to see my mum’s side of the family. Was a great drive down and I listened to all of The Avalanches new album which had just released. Easily the greatest album of the yeah hands-down. So we spent lunch there and absolutely stuffed ourselves with more food. Three Christmas meals really took a toll on me, but I am just blessed as it is to have a loving family and food on the table.
The next day dad, Josh and I headed to the beach to spend that weird time between Christmas and New Year’s. To get there we took the ferry that goes from Queenscliff to Portsea, which is always a fun time, since we don’t often go from one side of the bay to the other (if you don’t know the geography of Victoria I apologise lmao). Mum didn’t come with us as she had some symptoms of Covid, so went home to isolate and get tested. Thankfully she tested negative and she joined us the next day.
Once I got back home I had to prepare the house for my friend Jono who was visiting for new years from SA. Many last-minute chores and cleaning was done haha.
New Years Eve! Went to pick up Jono and my other friend Sarah from the airport and dropped Sarah off at her accommodation and ended up staying there with Jono for a while as this was where the New Year’s party was going to be. Although, in true Victorian fashion, our premier announced that there was going to be a limit of 15 visitors at any house from 5pm that night. Excellent. We love a last-minute change of plans. So we had lunch and spent the afternoon at my friend’s house before heading to a local park to chuck the frisbee and kick the footy around. We also had our second annual NYE trivia competition, which my team lost by 1 point!! Dang I get so competitive, but we will win next year, I can feel it. The new year came through uneventfully, we were in the middle of a game of Scattergories or something like that when someone changed the channel on the TV to see the Sydney fireworks across the screen and like, 4 second left of the countdown. I gave Josh a bog ol’ smooch and gave my friends a big hug. We had done it. 2020 was defeated.
Conclusion (damn this really be an essay tho)
This year was undeniably the hardest year I had ever been through. Going through unemployment for the majority of the year and having no sense of purpose hit me hard but I am entering 2021 with the hope and willingness to get on track with my career. And I think I will be successful. A lot of truly awful things happened around the world this year as well, with the devastating bushfires at the start of the year, the powerful BLM protests, Coronavirus absolutely destroying lives and many, many other global events but through it all, here we are. I hope you all keep well this year and that your 2021 is infinitely better than your 2020.
Song of the Year: Tangerine – Glass Animals
Album of the Year: We Will Always Love You – The Avalanches (I CANNOT stress this enough, but you absolutely must listen to this album!)
TV Show of the Year: The Mandalorian - Season 2
Movie of the Year: Bombshell (the only movie I saw at the cinemas so didn’t have much to go with)
Memory of the Year: Going away with my family and just enjoying time away with each other
Thank you for reading this, if you’ve made it this far, you’re a real one <3

Discussion (College AU): 2
(Note: Boy ooohh booooy, do i love Brian, yessir, Brian’s my favorite to write for. This is a direct continuation of this)
Ship: Jiggly/Wildcat/Terroriser
Characters: Terroriser, Moo Snuckel, Jiggly, Vanoss (mentioned), Delirious (mentioned), Wildcat (mentioned), Ohm (mentioned).
Word Count: 1146
Brock paused, his mind drawing a blank at the words Brian uttered. "You... Like Ant too?" he repeated, tilting his head. Brian nodded and groaned. "I'm not proud of it!" He clarified, as if that was ever a question. "I'm just... Confused. Don't tell 'em please..."
Sympathetically, Brock sighed out a smile and nodded. "Don't tell Evan that I like him and we have a deal," he promised. Brian looked into his eyes for a sign of a lie before he smiled with exhausted feelings. "Thank ye, Brock."
They hung out for a little after that, which mostly involved Brian interrogating Brock about the book he was reading, before they left the library together. Brock gave the librarian a wave on their way out that made Brian chuckle. It was a nice act you'd expect from him.
"Ye wanna grab a bite?" Brian asked, "The dining hall is bound to be open." Brock hummed in consideration before he shook his head. "No, I shouldn't. I told Marcel and Lui that I'd cook tonight," he explained, rubbing his neck. "Don't your roommates cook for ya?" he asked, glancing to catch Brian smile, holding back a laugh. "Ye think I'd trust David or Scott with me food?" he laughed lightly, "Please tell me ya remember the July incident."
"Oh god no," Brock scrunched up his face with a pained look. Brian could have probably seen the flames of the memory in his eyes if he looked. "I never ever want you three cooking- I swear I didn't need to remember that," he groaned.
Brian laughed it off.
They parted ways with Brian heading to the dining hall and Brock heading back to his dorm.
It was a nice walk, the campus was illuminated by a few lamp posts and students were still out and about, so Brian could pick up on a few of the latest stories from around the school.
He walked into the building with a smile, the smell of some good food hitting him first and he sighed blissfully. He needed a good meal. He pulled out his meal card and stood in line, waiting to be checked in.
His eyes were now mostly focusing between the line and his phone, until he felt a hand get placed on his shoulder. "Hey, Brian!"
He nearly jumped out of his skin in surprise, turning his head to catch a glance of Anthony. Now, a little relieved, he sighed and smiled in exasperation. "Hey, Anthony," he greeted, gaining a little laugh. "Hey! Sorry for sneaking up on you," he clearly didn't mean it from the little giggles leaving him, but Brian didn't mind that much. "Uhhuh. Whatever."
Brian felt his stomach twist just from being around Anthony. It was a good feeling, but he didn't exactly like it. He felt it best to ignore, but Anthony was a little touchy. Every shoulder tap or pat on the back made him feel like burning up into a small flame of embarrassing love.
Love? Man, Brian was taken back by that word. He didn’t know if he’d call this love, per se. Maybe more just a general fling of attraction? A one sided sense of aw? God, he was spiraling so much he had finally hit his poetic/not poetic stage of thoughts!
“Bri?”
He was dragged back to reality with Anthony’s voice, and he glanced at him only to be gestured towards the front. The line had gone, and now it was his turn. “Oh- oh, right, my bad,” he chuckled awkwardly and walked up, allowing the staff member to scan his meal card before he stepped aside and waited for Anthony to join him.
“So what’s got you acting like an airhead?” Anthony asked once his card got scanned. “I’m not actin like an airhead,” Brian argued back, heading off with him towards the food area where they each grabbed a tray that they intended to stack up with plates. What a luxury. “You sure? Cause you spaced out back there for a bit,” Anthony mumbled, stopping to grab some pasta right away. Brian went to the salad bar next door to fix himself up one. “I’m positive,” he decided, his tone full of affirmation.
Anthony hummed, almost in a doubtful way, but he didn’t really touch on it. “Sure, okay,” he shrugged as he finished off his plate. “Hey, mind if we sit near the back? Tyler is s’pose to be here in a few,” Anthony requested.
Did he just assume they were going to eat together because they happened to be there together? Maybe Brian wanted to eat alone!
“Yeah, that’s fine,” Brian agreed with a nod. Damn it, Brian.“What’s got him kept up anyways?” he added. “Evan,” Anthony answered simply, a grin forcing itself onto his face. “Oh god,” Brian groaned as he moved to the next station to grab a burger. “What’s he doin now?” he asked. “Same old, same old,” Anthony laughed gently. “But maybe a little more sense he’s also out with Jon and Ryan.”
Brian huffed, a laugh following because he could already picture Tyler scolding them but not for too long before he started laughing. The thought of Tyler’s laugh filled Brian’s head and made him feel bubbly, happy. He honestly couldn’t wait to hear it.
“Earth to Brian,” Anthony sung, a tease. “Ah! Right- right. Do ye know what they three were up to?” he spoke quickly, his steps following that pattern as he hurried to the dessert counter. Anthony smiled almost fondly and followed after. “Not a clue,” he answered as they reached the area, “Something to do with fireworks.”
Every week it was something new with them- the group in general. Fireworks was one of the least surprising things Brian’s heard to be involved in a scheme. It was at least underneath a circus clown mob (a scheme Jon was very adamant about) and enough fake snow to fill an apartment or three plus an indoor ice skating rink (which was just a really slippery kitchen floor). John and Jaren were behind that one- though Evan had helped out along with a very, very reluctant Brock.
Brian snickered and he reached out to grab a brownie, accidentally brushing fingers with Anthony. He immediately flinched back, and grew more flustered as he heard Anthony laugh softly. “Sorry man, you can have it if you want!” he apologized and gestured to the treat. Brian looked towards it, he looked at it like it just did something wrong and needed to go to prison. “N-no- no! Go ahead and take it!” Brian smiled shakily and then he grabbed a plate with a few cookies on it. “I’ll enjoy these instead!” Anthony shot him a small glance, and Brian met his eyes, resisting the urge to look away. Then, Anthony smiled. “If you insist!” And he grabbed the brownie.

OC Interview Meme
Many thanks to @schoute for tagging me in this. I loved answering these questions as Eden. (And I'm going to try to do bold text and stuff with this post. I'm bad at the tumblr sometimes.)
1) What's your name?
Eden Mezzanine.
2) Do you know why you're named that?
*grin* Yeah, cause I picked it.
3) Are you single or taken?
Single. Very single.
4) Have any abilities or powers?
Well, I'm a witch, so... yeah. My primary gift lies with spirits--speaking to them, seeing them, calming them, anything to do with them. Any kind of spirit, too--of the dead, of the elements, any of it. You'd be surprised at what can lead to spirits.
5) Stop being a Mary Sue.
I'd hardly call myself a 'Mary Sue'. Fuck you, man. Rude.
6) What's your eye color?
Pale grey. I like to think they match an overcast sky.
7) How about your hair color?
Naturally, it's ash-blonde, and very curly. But I dye it fairly regularly. Most recently was strawberry-blonde. I might do something wild next, when it's all washed out.
8) Have any family members?
Like, blood family? Yeah, probably. Chosen family? ...not really. Though there's this one Mormon family that's kinda adopted me. I help them out with their resident poltergeist when he gets out-of-hand, and they always insist that I can come around whenever, but I don't like to bother them. Their kids are great, though.
9) Oh? What about any pets?
Sort of? I have some resident spirits in my house who like my plants and keep the peace there. Do they count?
10) That's cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don't like.
People who knowingly hurt or take advantage of others. You should know better. And be ashamed of yourself.
11) Do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?
Well, my job takes up most of my life. But I love going to the Market at Pike every morning to buy produce and supplies, and see the shineys and neat things the fae and other booth owners have to sell.
12) Have you hurt anyone in any way before?
We all have, at some point.
13) Ever...killed anyone before?
Not unless they were already dead. Or... well. I mean. My job takes me interesting places. And sometimes it toes the line of legality.
14) What kind of animal are you?
Hmm. That's an interesting one. Do you mean, like, a totem? Cause that's disrespectful to Native Americans. ...I guess, if I had to pick one... one of the North American wildcats. More aloof than their domestic cousins, alluring even if they don't want to be, and dangerous. Maybe a lynx or a bobcat.
15) Name your worst habits?
I stay up way too late and wake up too early. How I function on as little sleep as I get is a mystery. And I tend to keep people at a distance. There are people I trust, but I don't really let anyone in.
16) Do you look up to anyone at all?
Myself. I've been through Some Shit, lemme tell ya, and I've come out of it stronger and better than when I went in. And the Spook Squad--Seattle PD's Supernatural Provision. Whole bunch of mundies, the lot of them, but they're determined to do the right thing for the paranormal community within the confines of the law. That's hard to do.
17) Are you gay, straight, or bisexual?
I guess straight? I've only ever been attracted to male-identified/aligned individuals. I mean, I meet a lot of fae and elves, and some of them are pretty fluid, so if there were feelings, I wouldn't say 'no', it just... hasn't happened yet, you know?
18) Do you go to school?
Pffft. No.
19) Ever want to marry and have kids one day?
Heh. Yeah, no, not really. I'd have to let someone in enough to even *date*, first, which isn't bloody likely, so...
20) Do you have any fangirls/fanboys?
My repeat clients are pretty fond of me. And even my non-repeats. I got a good reputation around here, all from talk.
21) What are you most afraid of?
*cold stare* That. Is not. For you to know.
22) What do you usually wear?
Jeans, a shirt appropriate to the weather, maybe a jacket, and boots or Chucks. And my satchel, or course.
23) What one food tempts you?
Ohhhh, the cakes and ale at Tornincasa's, easily. Every time. Oh! And a good Caprese salad. So light and fresh. Mmmm.
24) Am I annoying you?
Not really, I mean, this *is* an interview, and I agreed to it, so... whatever.
25) Well, it's still not over!
Okay, then. What else you got?
26) What class are you (low, middle, high)?
Financially? Middle-ish, I guess. Middle-high?
27) How many friends do you have?
I don't really have "friends". More like "trusted associates".
28) What are your thoughts on pie?
It's a very versatile kind of dish. I love a good shepherd's pie, or hand pies, so I can eat on the go. Sweet pies are alright, in moderation. I usually do one slice to be polite if it's being offered, but they're not my go-to. It's hard to eat a whole one when you live alone.
29) Favorite drink?
The "ale" at Tornincasa's--it's actually a warmed, lightly sweetened milk. Also my teas and tinctures, and water. I'll occasionally do coffee. This *is* Seattle, after all--to not drink coffee is basically blasphemy.
30) What's your favorite place?
My home, and my psychic temple, which is where I go when I meditate.
31) Are you interested in anyone?
Not in any serious way. But... well... *leans forward and smirks conspiratorially* Have you ever seen Detective Stone, in the Spook Squad? He's pretty cute. I never mind talking with him. Even when he thinks I'm a suspect.
32) That was a stupid question...
Well, more of a teenage one, but hey, we were all stupid when we were teens.
33) Would you rather swim in a lake or the ocean?
The ocean, generally. Puget Sound is especially... well, it's something. I'm not sure I could explain. But it's magical, and soothing. Salt water is powerful stuff.
34) What's your type?
The law-and-order types, I guess. *laughs* Ironic.
35) Any fetishes?
I dunno, what counts as a fetish? Never mind, don't answer that.
36) Camping indoors or outdoors?
I've done both, and they both have their merits and downfalls. I'll do either, if I have to, but I prefer my own home and bed, hands-down.
...wait, no more? *That's* what you're gonna end this interview on? *Camping*? What kind of weird-ass interview was this?

@anotherramblingfangirl For some reason I cant reblog your response to me and I do hope that doesnt mean you’ve blocked me without letting me say my piece...  I’m frankly a little insulted that you would assume I have no concept of wildcat conservation in scotland and try to pull that on me. Of course Im aware of wildcats and I’ve actually volunteered with a lot of conservationist charities - I actually know quite a lot about wildcats and cats in scotland in general. My pride in my country comes from the steps its taking in all areas - not just some random “Im from here so its great” Im not that egotistical.  First, scottish wildcats do not inhabit ALL of scotland - they are typically found in the highlands, in colder and drier areas and not around farms and towns. Yes domestic cats breeding with them are still a problem but you made a blanket statement and its simply not true that domestic cats in the lowlands are going to affect wildcat populations.
Second, when I said I think cats should be outdoors that did not mean “cat owners have no responsibilities towards their pets.” All cats should be spayed and neutered both for their health - to prevent strays/unwanted kittens AND to prevent breeding with wildcats which is the main issue - outbreeding.
Third, although we call them “domestic” cats - they arent. Not in the same way a dog is. Not only are domestic cats very like their wild counterparts but they need the wide territory and they need to be able to utilise their hunting instincts. Yes there are ways around this - playing, walking the cats ect. However considering the vast majority of the countryside here is safe for them there is no reason to stop them doing what they would do naturally. I nearly never hear of cat behaviour issues caused by limited territory or over abundance of energy.
Fourth, Most cat charities and animal protection organisations in the uk AGREE that cats should be allowed outside where possible. There are of course exceptions - if you live somewhere unsuitable, if the cat has issues due to disability or if the cat simply doesnt want to. Remember the cats are SAFE and even the rabbits they kill actually help balance the ecosystem which is fucked up because most of scotlands natural predators are gone.
Fifth, the average lifespan of an outdoor cat in the uk is at LEAST 16 years. Some have been known to reach over 20. This is about the same as an american indoor cat.
Sixth, I still encourage responsible cat ownership! Defleeing and worming regularly - checking for signs of illness. Cats should be kept in at twilight hours where possible and overnight if you can (as this is when car accidents are most likely). Cats should also be microchipped.
As for cats killing wildlife. The RSPB found that cats dont actually kill many birds which are some of the big native wildlife still desperately in need of conservation - cats are more likely to kill mice, rats, shrews, rabbits and mink. All of which have overpopulation issues.
Anyway thanks for anyone who read this far and for reference assume that if Im making a comment on something its because i have knowledge in that area.

super sad news
You may recall that when we moved to Washington, I attempted to convert Tortilla into an indoor cat. I’m pretty against outdoor cats as a concept, but we were her third family (at two years old!) and she was firmly established as The Ruler of The Neighborhood and I didn’t think it would be fair to keep her cooped up. I gave it a go, though, when we moved to a new place. Two months in, she was bored, sad, and fat. So when we bought our house, we let her go back to being an outside cat.
This was a mistake.
We haven’t seen her for two days, which in and of itself isn’t *that* concerning; she disapppeared once in our old neighborhood and turned up in a neighbor’s house - she’d been hiding behind their curtains for like three days.
But what we didn’t know until *after* she’d disappeared, is that in the past couple of weeks, two other pets have turned up, well, let’s just say, as victims of a wildcat, most likely a cougar.
Guys, if I’d known that was even a *possibility*, there’s no WAY I would have EVER let her outside, especially at night. And I guess that’s my fault for not doing my research into what kind of wildlife we have around here, but, I’m not exactly out in the country here. I live in a nice little suburban subdivision just off the highway, like 2 miles from the center of town. I grew up in goddamned Long Island, New York. I am not in any way familiar with wildlife that carries pets away.
Well anyway, her (breakaway) collar was in the next yard over but there’s been no other sign of her. We’re heartbroken. I miss my girl.

It's been too long since I've posted Bennet pics! Here she is chilling in front of her favorite hiding spot -- see those couple of inches beneath the cedar chest behind her? She's very good at getting extremely compact and pancaking her way under there.
