For Sylvus :3
1. what drives them? what’s their ultimate goal?
2. what was your original concept for this character? how did playing them change that concept?
3. can they accept failure?
7. there’s a magic item (or technological innovation, or special resource) made just for them—what is it?
20. what attracts them to someone—platonically and/or romantically, anything counts.
38. do they see themselves as an important part of their party?
44. what lies do they tell others?
45. what lies do they tell themselves?
48. do they relate to anyone in their group? conversely, which person do they relate to the least?
59. what’s an element of their philosophy that you disagree with?
67. do they consider themselves to be special?
what drives them? what’s their ultimate goal?
sylvus is mainly driven by a desire to have a family/friend group. he wants to have a close, tight-knit social circle that he can pretty much dedicate himself to and do things for. he has a high level of loyalty, and wants to be able to direct that loyalty at a group of people who he feels has fully earned his trust.
2. what was your original concept for this character? how did playing them change that concept?
my earliest concepts of sylvus were more heavily inspired by the character he's based off (selius) but sylvus has definitely ended up being a bit uhh... i dont want to necessarily say he's "smarter" than selius, but sylvus is definitely more aware of the consequences of their actions than selius was. if selius were a D&D character, sylvus would definitely have them beat in the wisdom and charisma department. sylvus is also definitely a lot more avoidant of direct conflict than selius is, but that's partially because sylvus is a rogue and aside from sneak attack, high DPS is not really arcane trickster rogue's strong suit? and sylvus is aware he's not exactly a tank. also sylvus isnt currently being driven by revenge like selius is. he potentially COULD be, but is not at the moment.
3. can they accept failure?
heavily depends on the kind of failure really lol. social failure like not really interacting super well with someone, he definitely kinda will just accept like "yeah i guess i fucked that interaction up." but something like.... getting caught while stealing/breaking in somewhere? that's the kind of failure he will fight and/or run rather than accept. he is not about to go to ANY jail or prison.
7. there’s a magic item (or technological innovation, or special resource) made just for them—what is it?
honestly i feel like the best kind of magic item for sylvus would be something kinda similar to what he's already wearing--a semi-sheer, mesh undersuit under his clothes that's enchanted to reduce the amount of sounds of them moving around and is also enchanted to turn some strikes from bladed weapons with the same level as medium armor. either that or some kinda cloak that helps with stealth checks. any kind of clothing/armor that assists with stealth or disguise and that is also revealing enough to be considered "sexy" (the sexiness is important—it has to help with stealth AND make his tiddies look poppin or he will not wear it).
20. what attracts them to someone—platonically and/or romantically, anything counts.
sylvus is honestly drawn towards people who dont necessarily express disapproval of his roguing habits—stealing, breaking into places, etc. especially in the case of people who aren't particularly rich.
38. do they see themselves as an important part of their party?
i feel like at the moment sylvus doesn't necessarily feel IMPORTANT to the party, but he does feel comfortable around them. i think he feels like he's had the party help him more than he's helped the party, so while he's starting to like the other members of the party, to some extent he still sees himself as replaceable in the grand scheme of things. he'd like to stay with the party tho.
44. what lies do they tell others?
sylvus mostly just acts like his childhood wasnt particularly remarkable (despite that definitely not being true considering he was literally raised by a minor god) and acts pretty dodgy and uncomfortable when people try to ask questions about his past. generally speaking tho he'll be kinda dodgy and inclined to lie to people asking him personal questions in general, he just becomes especially dodgy over questions about his past and his childhood because he doesn't like explaining he was raised by a god/qoryn.
45. what lies do they tell themselves?
the biggest lie he tells himself frequently is "i can make friends with others without having to reveal anything about myself." buddy that is not how friendship works. 😂
48. do they relate to anyone in their group? conversely, which person do they relate to the least?
i feel like sylvus and iziador have shared some moments. but i also feel like sylvus can def relate to ishvar's annoyance at dandy poking into xeir backstory as well, though sylvus and ishvar havent talked much. as for the least, sylvus definitely feels off-put by dandy's relentless curiosity to know more about sylvus's past and intense levels of insight.
59. what’s an element of their philosophy that you disagree with?
currently i can't think of an example of an element of sylvus's philosophy i disagree with, but that's at least partially because he's a self insert, even if he's like two degrees of separation removed from me.
67. do they consider themselves to be special?
i feel like considering sylvus's backstory what with being adopted and raised by a minor god and all, he kinda does consider himself special, but this fact doesn't like, bring him any joy or boost his ego. they see it like "special (derogatory)" rather than it being a good thing.

Four of them. One of me. Who will give in first?

It started when they stole me from my life. The daughter of a crime lord who ruled with an iron fist. The heir to a family of blood and ruin.

They left only a whisper of a name in the air. Il Diavolo. A man whose reputation preceded him. Ruthless. Merciless. Cunning.

The one they called the Devil. He was as beautiful as he was terrifying. Except I wasn't scared of him or his three friends. They might want to use me in their quest for revenge, but they picked the wrong girl. Or maybe I was the right one and none of us knew it quite yet.

Our connection is undeniable. Our fates are entwined. But loyalty and lies keep us all locked in a battle of wills and denial.

There’s only one thing I know for certain in this fight between the five of us. Secrets always catch up with you in the end. And my secrets were the worst ones of all.

A dark reverse harem series set in Sarah Bailey's Dark Universe with cliffhangers and a HEA in the final book.

My novel, Realm of Wraiths, is available for pre-order!
Tumblr media
STOLEN SOULS. A CORRUPTED REALM. THE KING OF NIGHTMARES.
“Death, it seemed, was truly like slipping from one room to the next.”
Sonnet is an ordinary seventeen-year-old girl from the farmland continent of Enya—until she dies and slips into a new realm. Tucked away on the damp and foggy cliffside known as Foxcoast, Sonnet joins a group of outcasts known as the Soul Stealers. Lurking beneath their enchanting powers and alluring kinship are sacrifices far more sinister than Sonnet could have imagined.
“This was not a realm of wraiths, I decided angrily. This was a realm of liars.”
After the Stealers admit their souls are being corrupted, Sonnet must decide where her loyalties lie. She can return to what she thinks is her old life or learn to harness powers of her own to fix the Stealers’ corruption. But never seeing her family again is not the only thing Sonnet has at stake. The Stealers may not be souls like her after all, but monstrous wraiths that feed on the essence of the living. And if she doesn’t find a way to stop their lies, corruption, and feeding…she’ll become one of them.

WHAT IS YOUR TOTAL WORD COUNT ON AO3?
220,400.   (oh gee)
HOW OFTEN DO YOU WRITE?
I made a timetable to make myself write at least 1,5k-3k per day, but usually I write 6k in one go and then spend around 3-4 days without writing,
DO YOU HAVE A ROUTINE FOR WRITING?
1. Open a notepad doc and write the outline. 2. stare at it for 2 hours 3. choose the song that’ll stay on repeat for the next 4 hours 4. wonder if i’ll ever be able to write again 5. doubt that the outline will help me develop the story 6. suddenly get inspired and open Writer’s Block 7. after 3 hours, the writing is magically done and i included at least 5 more scenes that weren’t in the first outline
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE KINKS/TROPES/PAIRINGS?
Kinks: DP, Big Brother, slight bondage, punishment, multiple orgasms, actual goddamn conversation, no misunderstandings
Tropes: Childhood friends to lovers, hidden romance, knight and princess,
Pairings: Xander x f!Kamui (Fates), Chrom x f!Robin (Awakening), Tharja x Libra (Awakening), Ryoma x Elise (Fates), Lance x Crystal (PokeCrystal), Moon x m!Ace Trainer (PokeSuMo), Kagome x Sesshoumaru (InuYasha) etc etc
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE FIC OF YOURS?
Staying True to Herself || Corriander
Where Your Loyalty Lies || Corriander
How to Seduce a Prince || Corriander (nsfw)
The Wife of the Ninja || Kamui x Saizo (nsfw)
To Protect Her Brothers || Katerina, Siegbert, Kamui
Gratitude in Her Heart || Luci, Chrobin
May we Meet Again, In a Better Life || Morgan, Lucina, Chrobin
YOUR FIC WITH MOST KUDOS?
Where Your Loyalty Lies, with a modest 127 kudos.
ANYTHING YOU DON’T LIKE ABOUT YOUR WRITING?
The thing I like and dislike is actually the same: How I focus a lot on details. Sometimes I write too many details, not leaving much for the reader to imagine while they read, thhooouugh...
NOW SOMETHING YOU DO LIKE (ABOUT YOUR WRITING)?
... I still like how I always take a lot of time to do my research and write tidbits of details about the scenery or the plot and I absolutely love it when people actually notice them :>

10 steps to understanding women
I laugh when I hear men say they don't understand women, I think in my mind, then you don't listen. Women aren't hard to understand. Yes, we are wired differently but basically we come from man's rib, we want and need the same things men do.
So here are the 10 easy steps to understand us:
1. Don't lie to us
This is universal, no one wants to be lied to, period. Be honest, if you don't want a relationship say so, if you just want to hook up say that. Be real and that would solve so many problems.
2. Be loyal
Oh, this is a big one you men can't seem to get. If you can't keep your dick in your pants don't start a relationship, be a player and be upfront about it. We will respect you more than dragging our hearts through the mud because you can't control your dick.
3. Listen
Another big one here, all you have to do is listen, we talk...a lot. So just listen, we will tell you what we want, how we've been hurt, what our hopes and dreams are, what we are looking for, it's a frigging road map to our hearts, just listen and follow it.
3. Be romantic
This goes along with listening, most women grew up with the Prince Charming fantasy. They want flowers, a love note, you doing the dishes or making breakfast. The little things that tell her you love her, you care. It doesn't have to even cost anything, just your time and energy.
4. Compliment us
Tell us we are beautiful, that you're proud of us, that you believe in our dreams. Grab our ass's, hold our hands, hold us when we cry and tell us it will be okay. Let us know how much you love us, pretty simple.
5. Just be there
You don't have to solve all our problems, you don't need to know all the answers. We don't expect that from you, just be there for us. Let us know we can vent to you and know that sometimes we are not looking for you to solve anything, we just like to talk our shit out to come to our own decisions.
6. Make us laugh
To me, funny is the new sexy. If you can make me laugh that will go a long way. It will make me feel better when I'm down, it will keep a smile on my face and it will also make disagreements end quicker if we are laughing, because you can't be mad and happy at the same time.
7. You don't always have to be the tough one
Yeah, this is hard for men, you all grew up thinking men don't cry, you have to be a "man"
That's bullshit, I want to know my man has emotions, that he has a heart, you don't have to be the tough one all the time. We are supposed to be a partnership, let us help you, we want to, we need to feel needed, we will be there to listen, it's okay to show us your emotions.
8. Talk to us
We are your ride or die bitch, we got your back, but you have to talk to us, tell us what's going on in your heart and in your head. Don't shut us out, don't think we don't understand or can't handle it, we are built tough, we got you.
9. Don't be controlling
Some women like a little jealousy, not much, just enough to tell them you are worried about losing us. I can do without either but what men or women don't want is a crazy person controlling their every move. "Where are you at? Who are you with? What time are you coming home? That shit doesn't feel good to anyone, so leave it alone.
10. Be yourself
Be real, don't try to impress us because sooner or later the real you will come out and then it will feel like you lied all along, not good.
Either we will like you or we won't...the money, the fancy car or clothes will only work in the beginning, when we find out you have no substance, no heart or soul we will be gone. So just be you, they say there is a shoe for every foot, keep it real and you'll find yours.
Bonus one #11
Don't treat us like shit!!
Yes, think about how it would feel if it was done to you? How would you feel? Would it hurt you? If you even remotely thought yes, then don't do it to us! Think before you do or say something that will hurt us, put yourself in that person's shoes and think again.
And if you do hurt us say you're sorry, we all screw up, just own your shit.
So today my friends, remember these 11 easy steps to women right here, we are not so hard to figure out and this list is universal, it can go for men as well. We all want these things, we are all the same, we want love, honesty, loyalty, to be listened to, complemented, to laugh, to be able to cry, to know someone has our back and to know if we give our love to someone that they won't treat it like shit. Pretty basic stuff...
So here is your lesson, copy it, pass it on, give it to your buddies, tape it to your fridge, learn it, let it become your bible for women.
If you do these things, I promise you, you will never have a problem understanding women.

Excerpt from my book!
All was quiet in the forest below as the moon climbed the celestial path above to take its ancient throne in the starry sky. The wind whispered softly through the trees as the guardians of the village of Fennglade stealthily patrolled the borders in the soft, silvery light. All was quiet, all was peaceful, all was calm... but within the enormous hollow of the great Council Tree, three leaders of the forest, after sitting a short vigil for a fallen friend, began to confer in serious tones.
“I sure hope it was a good idea for Matilda's family to come back here,” grumbled a big, spiky-furred badger. He tapped his long claws on the round table in front of him testily. “It defeats the whole purpose of their separating to begin with.”
The round, jolly-faced panda who sat nearby frowned in disapproval. “She was just trying to protect her children!” she protested. “Shouldn't that be every parent's chief concern, Kraig?”
The badger snorted. He had never been a parent, nor had any desire to be, so such heartfelt declarations were not terribly impactive on him. “We have to think of the greater good,” he stated with gruff matter-of-factness.
“Anyway,” the third animal, a grizzled owl who sat at the head of the table, stepped in smoothly, “I am sure Matilda did what she thought best for everyone.”
“Hmmmph, maybe,” Kraig grunted reluctant agreement.
The panda suddenly narrowed her eyes thoughtfully. “You know, I said children, as in plural, but only one skunk arrived here... is my memory going, or didn't Matilda and Franklin have twin daughters...?”
Her avian friend chuckled a little, then quickly grew somber. “No, your memory is strong yet, Lian. Matilda's letter to Desperado said she was bringing her daughters.” He sighed and shook his head grimly. “No, something must have happened to the other one...”
“Perished along with Matilda, perhaps,” Kraig suggested gruffly, his hardened face betraying sadness. “That probably happened shortly after she contacted us.”
The elderly bird ruffled his feathers gloomily and breathed another sigh. “No point in pondering it, I suppose... we can ask Blossom herself tomorrow.”
“Desperado did his job well, it would seem,” observed Lian. “Blossom, at least, made it here safely, after all.” She shifted uncomfortably on her small wood stool. “We should have sent out more then just Desperado, though... perhaps a few protectors...”
“He wanted the job, and he wanted to do it alone. You know how he is by now, I hope. Besides,” Kraig went on a trifle defensively, “we couldn't really spare any of the protectors.”
“And we thought Matilda would be there as well,” Aquil agreed sadly. “She had done a marvelous job keeping herself and her daughters ahead of her enemies since her husband passed away. And... she may have died before Desperado or anyone else could even get there...”
“Where is Desperado, anyway?” Kraig wondered, looking over at the elegantly carved wooden clock sitting on the squat bookcase.
“He'll arrive soon, I'm sure,” the owl declared, ruffling his feathers confidently. “He was keeping a low profile and is a little late, that's all. He'll probably arrive some time tomorrow.”
“You would say something like that, Aquil,” Kraig huffed, though not without amusement.
“Of course. What are friends for, if not to trust in one another?” Aquil responded levelly, but with a jolly twinkle in his yellow eyes.
Lian laughed merrily; the bird's loyalty was like a light beaming through the dark clouds of this troubled time. “True, true. And besides,” she added, leaning forward earnestly, “this is Desperado we're talking about! Nothing can keep him down.”
“Well, that's certainly true,” Kraig half snorted, half chuckled. “Luckily for us, since we need him alive.”
Aquil tsked and waved a dismissive wing. “You say that, Kraig, but we all know very well that you care about his well-being as much as Lian or I do.”
“Hmph!” Kraig turned away with a grumpy grunt. The old bird winked at Lian, who smothered a giggle.
There was a moment of silence before Aquil spoke up again. “So 'bandits' killed Matilda...” he said slowly, thoughtfully. “I suppose they are in fact of the same beastly group that killed Franklin...”
Lian's face turned grave. “Most likely.” She rubbed her forehead wearily with her big black paw. “It's just as we feared: the way they have been pursuing Matilda and Franklin's family so doggedly, and for so long...”
“...Can only mean one thing,” the owl finished in a meaningful hoot. The leaders exchanged grim looks.
Finally Lian shook her head slightly. “But who can they be?” she said with a fretful frown.
Kraig scoffed. “Who else? Obviously yet more stragglers from our old enemies, that confounded tribe.”
“We... don't have any proof of that, though...” Lian pointed out.
“But who else could it be?” argued Kraig, twitching his round ears in an irritated way. “We can certainly rule out ordinary thieves—they would hardly chase the same family fruitlessly for several seasons.”
“Yes, I know, Kraig,” Lian soothed, reaching over to pat the impertinent badger's paw gently. “I just don't want to jump to any hasty conclusions, is all.”
“Hmm, whoo... I wonder...”
Aquil's sudden quiet muttering caught the other two animals' attentions. “Wonder what?” asked Kraig.
“I wonder... if this has anything to do with... her...” Aquil murmured to himself, not actually seeming to hear his friend.
“Hm? What was that, Aquil dear?” Lian leaned forward, worry for her friend's disconnected mumbling etched on her furry face.
The old owl shook himself hard enough to dislodge a feather or two. “Aaahhh, it's nothing, Lian. ...Nothing at all...” But he sighed loudly in spite of his words.
“Really...?” grumped Kraig, his expression a picture of skepticism.
“You know, I was wondering something myself,” Lian stepped in tactfully before her friends could start one of their all-too-familiar rounds of lengthy bickering. “Is it really fair to Blossom that she doesn't know the truth? After all, both her parents knew. Perhaps she should as well—she deserves to know her family heritage, do you not think?”
But Kraig shook his broad head immediately. “I disagree. Honestly, Franklin should never have told Matilda,” he said with disapproval, “but—”
“Franklin had to tell Matilda!” Lian interrupted vehemently. “He couldn't have just asked her to leave Fennglade without any kind of explanation, and he certainly would never have lied to her!”
“Well, maybe, maybe,” relented Kraig impatiently. “The point is: What's done is done—and that goes for Matilda's decision as well. Things are better off the way they are.”
Lian still looked doubtful. “I... I don't know...”
Kraig snorted and turned to look at Aquil with an abrupt flick of his short tail. “What do you think?”
“I must say I agree with Kraig, my dear,” the elderly bird addressed Lian gently. “It's for her own safety, really, you know that.”
The good-natured panda dipped her head. “I suppose you're both right,” she conceded, staring down at her paws folded neatly in her lap.
“Besides,” Kraig added with conviction, “she's in Fennglade now; we protectors will keep everyone safe. What could possibly go wrong?”

Kiss Me With Lies by S.M. Soto
This book kissed me breathless! 👑👑👑👑👑
This is my first read by SM Soto, and it will nor be my last. I felt like I left this world and was transported into this world the author created with her mesmerizing words and characters. Mackenzie wants to find answers to her twin sister’s murder that happened in high school, but from the descriptions we get of her twin & how she treats her I am not sure I would have done what Mackenzie does! But I do understand it. Sometimes Mackenzie made decisions that I thought were stupid, but again I understood it. Baz is a domineering, controlling yet sometimes tender man of hotness! I would not have been able to turn him down either! Mackenzie and Baz together were combustible, and their scenes together were explosive! Mackenzie showed her broken, true self to Baz, and against all odds (because both Mackenzie and I were wondering about his culpability in her sister’s murder) I was rooting for them. But when shiznit started hitting the fan towards the end of the book, I was heartbroken for Mackenzie then in absolute, gasp-inducing, breathless shock at what happened. Needless to say, this is a true cliffhanger that I can’t wait to see resolved in the next book!
Blurb:
Two sisters. One unsolved murder. A sickening plot for revenge. When Mackenzie Wright attends her first real high school party, held somewhere deep in the woods of her small California town, no one expects to wake up the next morning to news of a gruesome murder. Especially not her own sister's. No suspects. No motive. No convictions. Just one unsolved murder and whatever's left of the now deserted town. Mackenzie has spent years with her sister's death weighing heavily on her shoulders, but it isn't until she stumbles across a photograph that changes everything for her. The memories, everything from that night, come flashing back in high-speed technicolor and Mackenzie soon finds herself obsessed with the truth. Determined to find out what really happened to her sister, Mackenzie relies on that one photograph to give her the answers she needs by embedding herself into the lives of five of the wealthiest men in Los Angeles. Consumed by her need for revenge, Mackenzie infiltrates the world of the rich and elite, only to come face-to-face with an alluring complication in the form of an elusive playboy. When enemy lines are drawn, Mackenzie has to choose between her loyalty to her sister and the man who has stolen her heart.

Who was Helen Kim?
Most of the readers of this blog should know by now that Helen Kim was the Dean of Ewha University and the one who sent Young Oon Kim to investigate Moon in the early years of the church. This is also confirmed in the official church narrative. But there is much more to the story that needs to be filled in to actually get a clear picture about the origins of the Unification church. The following Amazon link and the excerpt provided is from a book written recently about these events by a Korean patriot. I've included her note on authenticity because it describes the process by which actual historical accounts are accurately approximated in our modern world, unfortunately. Enjoy, Frank F

To Kill a Tiger
A Memoir of Korea
By Jid Lee
A NOTE ON AUTHENTICITY
While I tried to be as accurate as possible in my recounting of historical events, I added some fiction to the personal lives of the people affected by these events.
The names of the characters, too, except those of well-known historical figures, were changed, and some of the facts, including the contents and dates of the incidents in their lives, were altered to acommodate the narrative integrity and consistency. That history is fiction is a cliche, and trying to explain why I attempted to fill in the blanks in modern Korean history with the information I gathered on my own would be a waste of time. The truth was intentionally cast out of the official version to be replaced by lies and propaganda, so the only way to arrive at the truth again is an exercise of disciplined imagination, and this I tried to do.
-------------------------------------------------
As I grew old enough to challenge him, Father would curse me, "Those feminist bitches you imitate! They're nothing but a pack of dogs for the Yankee bastards! They're in cahoots with the right-wing hounds who do witch-hunting for their American owners."
For Father and other Korean men of his generation, progressiveness and socialist ideals did not connect with a feminist agenda the way they often have in other countries. Father was being a traditional man, a model of a stoic Korean husband, trained not to show affection for his wife. His daily sexist behaviors were anything but deliberate. But Father did believe Korean feminists were, in a way, traitors.
When I was growing up in the sixties, the voices of Korean feminists were only just starting to be heard. I knew nothing of these women's existence except through the famous names mentioned by the adults around me. Mother repeated to me what Father had told her about the history of the women's movement in South Korea, and I was able to trace his words back to where they came from. I found myself not only understanding but also sympathizing with him.
As a small, determined army of women who arrived in the arms of the right-wing dictator and his American champion, the first-generation South Korean feminists, exactly like their male counterparts, had no power base among the female masses. They were a privileged few, a select number of well-educated, English-speaking elite, alienated from the needs of the majority of Korean women. As part of Syngman Rhee's constituents, they took over the mainstream women's movement in South Korea in the forties and fifties, governing its center through the sixties and well into the seventies.
"The socialist feminists fought to keep Korea for Korean women, while the right-wing feminists served American interests," Mother explained. "The former made the women's movement accord with the people's wishes, but the latter betrayed the masses to promote their own agenda, catering to the Americans' anticommunism and playing direct or indirect roles in destroying the socialist grassroots republic. Like the socialist men, the socialist women lost power and some of them had to flee to North Korea, where they probably suffered the same fate as their male comrades. As you know, my sister was one of those socialist feminists. She went to North Korea with my socialist brother."
Father was embittered against the early feminists in South Korea for other reasons as well. They espoused beliefs in direct contradiction to deeply ingrained Confucian ideology, disrupting time-honored traditions made possible partly by keeping men and women in separate places. There was a personal reason he disliked them, too. The feminists reminded him of Grandfather's illegitimate wife, the liberated woman with a feminist lifestyle who took his father away from his mother, as I was to find out shortly, when I was in middle school. But the primary reason for his aversion to the feminists was political.
"It is unfortunate -- and tragic -- that the socialist feminists were wiped out be the right-wing camp," Mother said. "But history is made by contradictions, and sometimes by violent contradictions. The right-wing feminists had to be lackeys for Uncle Sam in order to be pioneers for women. To establish their democracy, they betrayed everyone's democracy. By riding on the American side, they brought American women's feminism to Korea. America is the hub of global feminism, and without the models established by American women, Korean women wouldn't have had much guidance."
Despite what they did wrong, the right-wing feminists deserve credit for what they did for Korean women. They created Ewha University, the first institution of women's higher education in Korea, and one of the leading women's universities to this day. Analogous to Radcliffe or Smith in America, Ewha University, founded in 1886, was the first pioneering institution of women's higher education in Korea. Initially, it was started as a small school-house for girls by a Methodist missionary woman from Ohio, but in 1946 it became a university with several subsidiary schools. Since, it has blossomed into the world's largest university for women and one of the centers of the women's movement in Asia.
It's first president, Helen Kim, was a devout Christian right-wing feminist whose alliance with right-wing dictators in South Korea invoked intense ambivalence among socialist men of Father's generation. As one of the handful of the early feminists who fought to replace age-old Confucian ideology with newly imported Christianity, Kim did not hesitate to place herself in the hands of Americans and the Korean toadies conspiring with them. Although Christianity, too, was a patriarchal religion, it seemed to be a creed relatively kinder to women than traditional Yi Dynasty norms. Judeo-Christian countries, for instance, enforced monogamy at least by law, while Confucian countries practiced legally sanctioned, one-sided polygamy for men. For this difference alone, Christianity was worth fighting for.
To this day, I remember the chapter in her autobiography in which Helen Kim proudly recalls the party she organized for American army officers during the Korean War. To boost the morale of soldiers fighting to preserve "democracy" in another country, she called in the teachers' pets at Ewha to pair them with the officers. I was disturbed by the absolute certainty with which she described her party.
"She claimed she just wanted to comfort the soldiers far away from home," one of the feminist professors at my university, who knew all about Kim's life as an educator, said in class. "But there was a rumor that the pary didn't end where it should have. Some people heard that some of the students and officers went further than expected, going out on regular dates and making frequent, possibly sexual, contact. 'She doesn't think there are enough whores and prostitutes in this country right now,' people whispered in anger. 'She thinks we need more, and she's the chancellor of a university dedicated to promote women's rights and equality.'" The professor paused to control her rising voice. "Regardless of the hearsay, Kim's party was morally reprehensible. Given that it was wartime, when the GIs' prostitutes filled the U.S. army base in the night, she should have abstained from anything that would reinforce the fallen image of Korean women. The selected Ewha students weren't poor, starving prostitutes, but in terms of the role they played for the army officers, they were members of a conquered race eager to please the conqueror.
They were high-class one-night geisha, bluntly speaking, who were picked to serve the soldiers of a superpower. In peaceful times, when a man and a woman of different nationalities can sustain a relationship as equal individuals, such a gathering wouldn't be frowned upon. But in a country where so many of its women were made into playthings for soldiers from a conquering nation, Kim's party was a disgraceful idea, to say the least."
Kim didn't think about the consequences. Knowing that most of the prositutes -- and decent ladies -- who consorted with American military men were left behind in Korea, never sent for by their boyfriends who returned to America, she took the risk of throwing her students into the officers' arms. She wasn't concerned that they might become casualties of the war. The rumor that some of them went further than expected was very possibly groundless, but taking this chance during the war was not only morally questionable but also unpatriotic.
In another chapter of her autobiography, Kim confesses to having pledged an allegiance to Park Chung Hee, the military general who took over Syngman Rhee's dictatorship through a coup d'etat in 1961. With pride, she writes how she was summoned into his office immediately after the takeover and how unfalteringly she promised loyalty to him. As long as she was allowed to keep running Ewha University, she gladly shook hands with the dictator. It is impossible for me even now to shake off the disappointment that taints my admiration for her, admiration I believe she deserves for her ultimate achievement. The name Helen Kim provokes in me the same ambivalence that many people -- men who had good reasons to distrust her, and other feminist women who had doubts about her integrity -- admitted to feeling before and after her death.
But history must be examined with a sense of irony, as Father himself often insisted. Because Helen Kim so willingly made those shady compromises, she was able to keep what was to become the single largest institution of women's education, a haven for millions of Korean women who came after her. Because she spared nothing to preserve her cause, she was able to help rescue half of her country's population from ignominy and servitude. And because she pandered, she could help her fellow women to be free from pandering. Democracy is a strange beast. In my mind, her greatest achievement was to leave the next generation of women the weapons with which they could criticize her. She empowered them to become informed and able to sort right from wrong, and this empowerment may not have been possible without her flattery to the mafia-esque right-wing and their American bosses.

Undertow by Elizabeth O'Roark
Nate and Maura are absolutely wonderful. Second chances and fate kept them together.
BLURB:
Maura Pierce seems to have everything – a bright future, a trust fund and a boyfriend who can’t wait to settle down. It almost seems like enough until Nate Sullivan comes home.  Nate – her childhood best friend, her first love.  The boy who left without a trace one night and broke her heart. When their attraction threatens the future she and her parents have so carefully crafted, loyalties will be tested and secrets will be uncovered. Giving in may cost her everything.  But how do you resist the only thing you’ve ever really wanted?
My thoughts and review:
This brings me back on how family can screw up your life so much, but being the strong people that they are, they get through it.
This goes from past to present, but you can’t really tell because it’s kind of incorporated in it, which is fine.
Maura thinks back on her childhood, how she’s from a privileged family name and Nate was the son of their servant. Everyone saw him different, but she didn’t. She saw Nate like no one else could, smart, kind, and protects her. Nate saw her as someone different, someone who treats him better than any of the others.
I thought I would like Jordan, her brother, but he just pisses me off the further the book goes. I hate her family. Completely opposite of Maura and will do anything to keep them apart.
Lies. Deceit. Twists and turns.
I liked Ethan for a while there, but… well, you’ll just have to see for yourself.
HEA!
This gets 4 PIGGIES!

Elise Cooper’s Author Interview of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
Verses for the Dead by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child brings back the return of their beloved character FBI Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast. There is a slightly new recipe for this famous crime solver with a new boss, partner, and medical examiner.
A welcome relief in this story has the authors moving away from anything supernatural and deciding to stick to crime-solving, understanding that the story and characters are riveting by themselves. In this old-fashioned mystery, a Florida woman while visiting her husband’s grave has her dog find a human heart with an apology note. The current victims are women whose throats have been slit and breast bones split open to remove their hearts, all in quick and expert fashion. The killer leaves notes at the graves of women who committed suicide and signed it “Mister Brokenhearts.” As other body counts mount up it becomes apparent that the notes left have a tinge of literary verses from T. S. Eliot to Romeo & Juliet.
Unlike his past supervisor Pendergast must now deal with Walter Pickett, an FBI assistant director recently assigned to the New York City field office, who is determined to keep this maverick agent under his control by assigning him a partner, Special Agent Coldmoon. The new partner is expected to report back on any of Pendergast’s deviations from the rules. Both Agents are a contrast of each other.  Coldmoon is part Lakota Indian and part Italian.  Pendergast dresses like an undertaker, and always seems to have more money than the average FBI agent preferring the luxuries of a fine hotel, private jet, and nice car. Soon Coldmoon realizes his partner is astute, smart, observant, and has a way of looking outside the box. They enlist the help of the medical examiner who is willing to go against her supervisor to find clues.
Sorting through betrayals, lies, and deceptions, readers are treated to a unique storyline that is highly volatile.  An added treat is the humorous banter between the characters that is both refreshing and amusing.
Elise Cooper:  How did you both decide to write together?
Lincoln Child:  I was an editor for St. Martins where my job was to find new properties.  I specialized with non-fiction that included the sciences. I visited the Museum of Natural History in New York and saw peculiar objects, a bizarre history, with eccentric people. I thought this is worthy of an Indiana Jones movie.  I did some research and found the guy who wrote most of the historical articles.  We became friends after I edited his first non-fiction book.
Doug Preston:  I was sitting at my desk at the museum and this distinguished editor gave me a call asking me to lunch at the Russian Tea Room.  What struck me is that he appeared younger than I was; and impressively at the tender age of twenty something he was already a Senior editor.
EC:  How was Pendergast born?
DP:  I wrote the first few chapters of this novel that had two policemen.  Lincoln said that these two were essentially the same character.  He wanted to fold them into one character.  In about fifteen minutes Agent Pendergast was created.  When he arrives at the scene of a murder it becomes obvious he is not a conventional FBI agent, and looks more like an undertaker with his black outfits.
EC:  How would you describe Pendergast?
DP:  A person out of place and out of time.  A gentleman from the Old South, specifically New Orleans.  He is looked upon as a total freak. He does things off the books, unorthodox, wealthy, and an iconoclast. He is like a twisted, dark Sherlock Holmes.
LC:  We have fun writing him.  He is an over the top character that is eccentric.  He enjoys his comforts. He has become legendary to go rogue and work on his own.
EC: How would you describe Agent Coldmoon?
DP:  He is one of the finest characters we have written.  Very iconic that keeps to himself. One scene we wrote in the book shows their different tastes.  Pendergast is a terrible coffee snob while Coldmoon likes camp coffee with that foul smell.  At a certain point Pendergast buys his partner a fine expresso coffee. Coldmoon takes one sip and pours it out.  This shows their differences, but they both end up respecting each other.
LC:  One thread of previous Pendergast books is saddling him with lazy and incompetent law officials that he had to work with.  Coldmoon is not a boring person and we hope he made an impression on the reader.  He looks like a Native American with long black hair and piercing eyes.  Quietly he shows Pendergast he is an equal with the same intelligence and observations.
EC:  There are many contrasts from loyalty to betrayal, the coldness of Maine to the hot humidity of Miami?
DP:  We like moving our characters into different places literally and figuratively to see how they would react.  Coldmoon is from South Dakota so the Maine coldness does not bother him, but he could not stand the Miami muggy heat.  On the other hand, Pendergast in Northern Maine is freezing to death, but from New Orleans is used to the Miami weather.
LC: Regarding betrayal versus loyalty Coldmoon is assigned as Pendergast’s partner with a secret agenda.  As time passes he realizes it is wrong.  He must choose loyalty to his superiors or loyalty to his partner. Whoever he is loyal to the other will see it as betrayal.
EC:  Another contrast is insubordination versus thinking outside the box?
DP:  The FBI has evidence gathering rules to collect for trial.  Pendergast has a high closure rate of his cases, but rarely do they reach trial because the perp is dead.  At first, Coldmoon is appalled by his partner’s tactics, and the treatment of the FBI rule book.  They have quite a bit of conflict about this.
LC:  Pendergast only accepts one dollar a year because he is wealthy and is doing the job for the enjoyment of the work.  He thinks of it as solving a puzzle.  As the story progresses his new partner sees the reasons behind what Pendergast does.
EC: You have humorous banter?
DP:  We write it by playing off each other.  We keep re-writing it to make it funnier.  Sometimes our level of amusement gets out of hand and we have to take a step backwards. The author Joyce once said, “Tragedy is merely underdeveloped comedy.” We read what we write, books with a certain level of humor.
LC:  The partners try to one up themselves which can be humorous. Finally, there are scenes influenced by the setting.  For example, Coldmoon thinks he has a ten-minute drive, which turns into two hours because he got the name wrong.
EC:  Can you give a shout out about your next book?
LC: The next Pendergast book is out next winter.  We are discussing if Coldmoon will return in the next novel or sometime in the future.
DP:  We are starting a new series that will have two characters first introduced in the Pendergast books.  The recurring characters are Corrie Swanson, a newly minted FBI agent, and Nora Kelly, an archeologist. The two of them get tangled in a horrific case that has taken place in California’s Sierra Mountains.  This is where the Donner Party got stuck in the snow in 1847.  Half died of starvation, and half ate those bodies. In the present, Nora does an excavation of the campsite, and something happens that puts the party in mortal danger.  It will come out this summer and is titled Old Bones.
THANK YOU!!

Any Man Who Sleeps With Ooni’s Ex-Queen Will Die If Not Cleansed – Ifa Priest
In the wake of the breakup of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, and his former wife, Olori Wuraola, which expectedly created shockwaves and reverberated around the world, more salacious details have since emerged. Information gleaned from various social media platforms and other sources indicate that both parties, prior to being joined in matrimony, were divorcees, who had been involved in failed marriages. Sunday Sun gathered that the ex-Olori Wuruola, who has reverted to her maiden name, Zaynab Otiti-Obanor, following the breakup, had been married twice, thereby making her failed marriage to Ooni the third marital union that crashed. On his part, the Ooni had been garlanded with the medals of two failed marriages before his latest (and third) broken union. In the face of the serial divorce now associated with both the Ooni and his ex-queen, a serious twist has been added to the tale as an expert on Yoruba culture and renowned Ifa priest, Chief Yemi Elebuibon has revealed that ex-Olori Wuraola, must necessarily undergo appropriate traditional cleansing process to enable her to regain normal life. While noting that Ooni would not be the first Yoruba Oba to be seperated from his wife, Elebuibon stressed, however, that marriage breakup is not very common among Yoruba Obas. However, if the breakup happens as in the case of the Ooni and his wife, he said that, “the wife of the Oba will be asked to consult Ifa and Ifa will give directions on how she will make the necessary atonement for her cleansing.” He explained further: “In Yoruba tradition, a woman who has been married to a king cannot lay with any other man even if the marriage breaks up. But when the right atonements have been made, there won’t be problem.” On the kind of problems which an Oba’s ex-wife might encounter if she refused to undergo the traditional cleansing rites, Elebuibon said: “For the woman, she might not really have a problem but for any man who sleeps with a queen or marries an ex-queen without the appropriate cleansing, the man may die prematurely, he may be struck with sickness or there might be retrogression in his life.” He explained that if an ex-queen wants to remarry, she will have to do the cleansing with her new husband. Both of them have to take part in the atonement procedures so that they won’t have any future problem. “Any marriage she would be going into must not be elaborate. They should go far away and avoid any flamboyant wedding,” Elebuibon warned. The news of the breakup between the Ooni and the ex-Olori, confirmed stories that had been circulating for months on blogs, social media and some magazines, to the effect that the marriage was troubled. But, last Wednesday, Olori Wuraola Zynab Ogunwusi, released an official statement on her Instagram page to confirm that her 17-month marriage to the one of the most revered monarchs in Yoruba land had broken down irretrievably and was officially over. Although, both parties have refused to give reasons for the breakup, in her statement, the ex-queen stated that the failed marriage was not as a result of infidelity or infertility on her part. Her words: “We have got to stop this culture of shaming and vilifying women with false stories of infidelity and nefarious behaviour. The spreading of false information (through “sources” afraid to be identified), is the mark of cowardice and a cover up for guilty parties to justify their horrific actions. There is absolutely no truth to the media circulated lies of infidelity and infertility – on my end.” Although, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has not issued a statement, it is glaring that the once fairytale marriage has finally packed up. Genesis of the breakup The collapse of the marriage can be traced to the very beginning. Some people believe that one of the reasons the marriage failed was because Ooni made a hasty decision to get married to the ex-Olori, while others opined that the breakup happened because they didn’t court for long. Ooni was an eligible bachelor when he came to the throne and as the tradition demanded, he needed a wife and so he was introduced to Wuraola. As at that time, there were speculations that Wuraola was married to a Lebanese businessman but when the Ooni became serious that he wanted Olori Wuraola as a wife, she left the Lebanese to become the queen of Ife. According to Linda Ikeji’s blog in February 2016, Olori Wuraola was still with the Lebanese businessman: “She was with this guy in February 2016. In fact, she had their photo on her WhatsApp DP and just the following month, in March, she was married to the Ooni. We were all surprised.” Many reports alleged that the Ooni was advised by many well respected Nigerians not to marry her. The former president, Olusegun Obasanjo was also mentioned as one of the well respected Nigerians who told the Ooni not to marry the former Olori but he refused. There are also reports that Olori Wuraola had earlier been married to a former governor. Another reason given, for the breakup was that the former Olori expected so much from the Ooni and when the expectations were not met, a friction began developing in their relationship. The Ooni on his part was said to have started to doubt her loyalty to him. It was claimed that there was an issue of text messages found on her phone. Also, there was an instance when she travelled abroad without her being accompanied and so many other sundry issues that made the Oba say he was no longer interested. However, there are also speculations that the ex-Olori left because she was aware that Ooni wanted to take more wives and, according to sources, this didn’t sit well with her. Queen between tradition and modernity The ex-Olori once spoke at the Emerging Women’s Forum, in Maryland, USA, stating that she was not a fan of gender equality, which she felt limits women. “I am not a huge fan of gender equality. We can’t be equal, we can’t be men. We have our roles to play here, a very pivotal one. The modern pattern of feminism has succeeded in limiting women and denying them of the heights they could reach; gender equality is unrealistic.” However, sources from some quarters claimed that the comments at the American forum were more like the Ooni spoke through her. Many believe that the former Olori was not well schooled in the traditional role of a queen of the Ooni. According to the Yoruba tradition, a queen is trained to worship the ground on which his king walks upon. She is not allowed to ask questions and must be in total submission to the Ooni and she would dare not speak back at him. A woman who is married to an Ooni cannot exhibit any modern traits if she wants her marriage to succeed. There are speculations that the ex-Olori behaved otherwise. This was seen as an abomination and it ran contrary to the traditional role of an Ooni’s queen Is there a new Olori about to be unveiled? Days before the former Olori announced her failed marriage, there were speculations that the Ooni had married a new wife, whose name was given as Bolanle. The word out is that Bolanle had always been in the picture. In fact, many people had assumed that she was going to be the Olori before Wuraola snatched the queen’s crown, albeit briefly. Some sources said that Bolanle might be the new Olori. Even though the information about her is still very sketchy, the same source revealed that Bolanle is also fair-skinned like the former Olori. However, Bolanle won’t be the only Olori at the Ooni’s palace; two women are also said to be coming to join the Ooni’s group of wives. One of them is a classy lady who works with one of the big telecommunications companies in the country and the other whose full identity is not yet known is said to live abroad. via Blogger http://ift.tt/2wxSbcu

Exclusive: Mao's Inner youths expose autocracy within 3men NEC
New Post has been published on https://thespearnews.com/2017/05/28/exclusive-maos-inner-youths-expose-autocracy-within-3men-nec/
Exclusive: Mao's Inner youths expose autocracy within 3men NEC
The youth wing of the democratic party has expressed disgust of the selfish and dictatorial tendencies practiced by Mao administration at the headquarters.
The youths among others accuse Mao of running a 3 people NEC made of Him, Siranda and Mbidde, giving available youth opportunities selectively to only 3people, lack of proper training policy and usurping powers of youth leader as Okidi Christopher
At the helm of EALA elections Mbidde ordered all members not loyal to him and Mao be removed from official DP whatup group which was done.
The group is likely to tear again as concerns from the youth wing are filtering through and pausing serious damage to the already decayed leadership from within.
The SpearTip dug out chat between disgusted youth and administration.  We reproduce the hard chat here:
D P youth on a sanitary campaign early 2017. This was the last known DP public activity
 [27/05 9:45 pm] Enock
I have learnt that you have also introduced a travel racket within the system and its only benefiting a few.it seems there are a few who are bright to attend some programs and others are too dense and cant attend
The 2 programs are Pypa and ebridge, iam told you nominated Nakyanzi for two programs running concurrently as if there are no other able youths, if you really meant to build capacity like you have always asserted then it shouldn’t be built on only two or three people. For my friend Katende you have made him a perennial beneficiary.
How come that at the same time and year you’ve nominated Nakyanzi, Katende and Sembajwe for Ebridge
Are these 3the only people in the youth
Why only this trio all the time, iam not asking to seek your attention for the same opportunities but kindly don’t narrow it to a few. I think the three of you were voted to rejuvenate the youth wing not to seek damn opportunities for yourselves.
Kindly respond here
 [27/05 9:47 pm] ‪Laker Moses Okot +256 782 559886‬: I had wanted to raise that too
[27/05 9:54 pm] KATENDE MOSES: Aaaaaah Enock put me out of your allegations. In fact to clear my name you should understand that this year I have only confirmed 2trips abroad… I have not been nominated by the party to attend any program this year so please get my name out of your allegations…… [27/05 9:56 pm] ‪+256 702 416792‬:
[27/05 10:18 pm] ‪+256 788 286750‬: Hahahahahaha. Mpagila Gwe boss if okidi is on this forum let him carry his own cross. Atuwe answer period no big deal unless it’s museveni’s government where there is no one else eligible to take off his seat ever sole candidate.
[27/05 10:22 pm] KATENDE MOSES: Enoch leave me alone Me my role is to give full expertise to the party…. Incase opportunities come in I always to to represent fully but also get capacity
[27/05 10:25 pm] Okidi C: Thanks Enoch for your concerned, I am responding to this because I have been pushing for a policy of capacity development. Let me clear my name on this. I think this is a legitimate concern that deserves a response.
First you may be aware that am out of office and there is no way I can make nomination. Am not even aware of any nominations to E Bridge. Even before I left office I disagreed with the top party leadership over discarding some of my nominees some thing I thought was patronising which I disagree with.
Even when I had pushed in management a policy of capacity building for youth and how it is not mere attending them but ploughing back the skills to the benefit of the party. I have been of very low morale since that disagreement.
I think your question can best be answered by the president and secretary general as the principal external contacts of the party. I have only nominated Sempijja because I was startled by his commitment to the party and kept wondering why his capacity was not being build.
Secondly My logic has always been to identify talent and deploy them accordingly, the only time I ever recommended other than Sempijja was last year of which Katende and Lillian Nyakuni were part and their performance was exceptional. I advised that they be taken for E bridge since it is a purely media platform and you remember my working committee approach.
The two have led in that committee which you Enoch were part of and E-bridge I was thinking was going to build media capacity. My nominees Katende emerged the best and will join them as faculty member to Tutor. Even Lillian Nyakuni the former VP of MUBS Guild performed extremely well and KAS on their own motion recommended her to the Media Summer School and are considering her for the Youth Think Tank.
These are the qualities of my people, and if you see you find that I carefully do these and if the people who have taken over nomination can only follow that logic Eversince I disagreed on this matter with our party leaders. I nolonger do recommendation for such. So I think the President and Siranda can be in better position to answer you on this years recommendees
Am not selfish at all, not inconsiderate, I love talent, and love dispersing opportunities to young people. I dont even compete with young people I lead over opportunities. I have been in this party, never done any of those training. All the trainings I have heard and academic opportunities were outsourced by my non political network.
I was approached by the organisers to attend them. Emmy Otim particularly called me saying all youth leaders in uganda have attended except me and I told him that doesnt justify my attendance. And that is the difference between me and them. I dont compete for opportunities with people I lead. My outlook is different.
Thanks for your concern Yours truly Christopher Okidi
