Round 1 Part 7 Poll 8
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda
what is a captain tournament without ahab tbh? moby dick (whale) bit his leg off in true dick fashion and ahab ditches all efforts of actually whaling to kill him for it. (well not ALL efforts but like. quite a few.) the pettiest bitch ever. had a new leg made out of whale bone SPECIFICALLY. has a hole in the deck where he just. pivots from. loser. has gay tension with his first mate starbuck also i don't know if that matters
(bear in mind i haven't actually finished the book yet ^^ so this may be slightly inaccurate)
Setzer is a roguish gambler who lives life on his own terms. He's the only known airship captain of his time, after the loss of Darill, and his skills in navigating such a machine are vital to the cause of the heroes. He meets the main characters by trying to kidnap an opera singer.

Curse Of The Vampire
I'm hearing a lot online about the Dracula manga, but scarcely anything about the Dracula Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book.
Tumblr media
Taking on the Adventure-book format from games like Death Trap Dungeon, you play as either Jonathan, Mina, Dracula or Seward (RIP Arthur, Quincey, and Van Helsing) and play through either an altered version of the book, changing depending on your actions, or a completely new series of events (Dracula's pre-undead life, a full-on murder mystery on a train for Van Helsing) depending on which character you choose.

Thanks to @fiercereadsya for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review
✩⚔️🗺️Review:
Tricia Levenseller just doesn’t miss when it comes to pirate adventure novels!
Following the events of the “Daughter of the Pirate King” duology, “Vengeance of the Pirate Queen” centers around Sorinda Veshtas, the pirate queen’s assassin. As a newly appointed captain, Sorinda is dispatched on a rescue mission. Unfortunately, her sailing master just so happens to be Kearan Erroth, the one person attuned to her every movement in the shadows. Sadly, it’s near impossible to avoid him on a ship with few hiding places. But when the crew faces the King of the Undersea, a being who can control the dead, Sorinda’s helmsman might be the only one that can save her from becoming an undead queen.
I. Love. Sorinda. Veshtas. I always have ever since reading “Daughter of the Pirate Queen.” Now I love her even more. Levenseller never fails to create strong female characters and Sorinda might just be the fiercest one of all. Her past is revealed in bits and pieces. Once I saw the whole picture I was devastated. Her vengeance for what happened to her family is a driving force in her life and motivated her to become a weapon. At the same time, she is consumed by guilt.
Kearan is the one who helps her realize that she is worthy of life, love, and saving and that it is okay to lean on others. Their romance truly left me a sopping mess. I enjoyed watching Sorinda try to avoid him as much as possible until she could no longer ignore her budding feelings. Watching their squabbles turn into playful banter. Their reluctant love story is a beautiful one as they learn to confide in each other and accept their own flaws.
As a huge fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, I enjoyed how this book pays homage to The Curse of the Black Pearl. I was on the edge of my seat, soaring through each chapter wondering how Sorinda and her crew would defeat an army of the undead. The explosive ending does not disappoint. This swashbuckling adventure fulfilled all of my pirate loving dreams!

One book down, another to go.

With When Witches Dance finished, it's time to get back to work on my historical fiction, The Voice of Wild Places. If you know me, then you know I can't help but commission art during the early phases of projects.
And we all know it's only the beginning, because I'm absolutely in love with Watt and Cornelius. Not to mention archaeology and history are my secret loves, and this is exactly the kind of story I want to read. Historical fiction with Indiana Jones like adventure, queer awakenings, danger, jazz, and steamships.
Write what you love and all that.

Blurb:
Cornelius Sawyer is a man of many talents, but forgiveness is not one of them.
Watt Johnson is a man of his word, but not once in his life has he spoken up for himself.
Once connected by the bonds of childhood, threads now severed by the demands of life, the pair are brought together for a once in a lifetime opportunity: an all expenses paid expedition to Brazil, searching for a man the world believes to be long dead, Percy Fawcett. And perhaps, even the Lost City that he was looking for.
Under the guise of doing research work for their respective universities, a reluctant Cornelius and an exhilarated Watt accept the offer and delve into the unknown, trusting no one but themselves. Looking at a map, the route and its dangers seem to be known obstacles which can be easily conquered, a fact that Watt leans on heavily.
But Cornelius is intimately aware that the river has teeth, that the land renders a siren song to those who are desperate to become lost in its mountains and basins. To survive the journey they’ll have to face the enemies within, and trust the other to have their best interests in mind.
After all, the Voice of Wild Places is calling, beckoning the adrift homeward.

You want Action? Adventure? High concept sci-fi with great characters and emotional beats? Some humor, found family, and a quest for revenge?
Then I have you covered.
Irongate tells the story of Kaya Cade; punk, thief, and champion hogwash seller. She witnesses a bark-skinned creature that plucks the eyes from its victims and now seems to want hers. And also Tenley Tych; tween terror out to avenge her mother’s murder with the help of superpowers granted to her by Titania. Their paths cross with many others on their journey, including the childhood friend Kaya drifted apart from, Jennifer Airhart; tinkerer and lighthouse keeper.
The end will be the beginning of a new world.

GUYS I PUBLISHED A BOOK
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a fantasy story about angels, demons, magic abilities, lgbt characters (the main duo are aro/ace and pan specifically), love, fate, trauma and a lot of other stuff that's described in the book's bio in the link below.
Since I was heavily inspired by animes like Hunter X Hunter, various Studio Ghibli movies, Bungou Stray Dogs and others, I figured that a lot of y'all may enjoy giving it a read! (This is the nerd site after all, we're all a lot more fun than the Instagram/Twitter/Facebook folks).
If you're interested, you can find the book here!
(also I can't afford to hire a marketing team so reblogs would be greatly appreciated ❤️)

The wonderful E. B. Fragg and I have once again exchanged working manuscripts and I can report that at least my junior basement writer Gwen is already very interested in this fantasy material 😃
I can also only recommend to have a look at his works, because he has a really nice, sharp style of writing ^^

Thanks to @fiercereadsya for sending me a finished copy of the new edition of “Daughter of the Siren Queen”
✩🧜‍♀️⚓️Review:
A satisfying conclusion to a high stakes adventure!
Picking up a few weeks from where the first installment left off, Alosa Kalligan finds herself in a deadly race against her father after learning of a secret he has kept from her. Despite the danger, Alosa knows she will recover the legendary hidden treasure first with the help of her a crew and the still unfairly attractive and unexpectedly loyal, first mate Riden, who once took her captive.
New book, same cunning, ruthless Alosa. I loved getting to see Alosa’s dynamic as a captain in “Daughter of the Siren Queen”! She is so devoted to her crew, willing to sacrifice her life without hesitation for them, and owning up to her missteps. This only deepened my admiration for her character.
Alosa’s romance with Riden definitely isn’t the focal point of this book, which is something I normally wouldn’t mind, but I couldn’t help but feel like something about their chemistry was off. Instead of their relationship deepening, it was repeatedly sabotaged and not enough time was spent on how it was mended (in my opinion) in the end. All this to say, there was a lot of back and forth and I was eager for them to just be together considering that their romance is a subplot.
One of my favorite aspects of “Daughter of the Pirate King” was the promise of sirens and this book did not disappoint on that front! Levenseller leans more into the fantasy genre with this one and I loved being able to delve more into Alosa’s siren nature and learn more about roots.

Callie The Cat with Nine Eyes by Sharon Schofill
When Callie, the runt of her litter, was born, all was amazing. Callie was born with nine extra eyes. She had two in the regular place and nine lined up on the underside of her tail. Her mother, regardless of this evolution, was awesome! She fed Callie and taught her how to clean herself. Yes, life was grand!
But Callie was about to learn that all good things came to an end. The morning after Callie was weaned from her mother, she found herself being tossed outside like dirty dishwater. Landing on her feet, as cats usually do, she licked her wounds and looked up at the door of the house. Her mother was being held by the wicked person who had tossed her out and was not able to come to Callie’s aid. Callie was astounded. She was a beautiful cat, had a good personality, and was an awesome mouser even though she had never eaten her catch. She couldn’t figure out why a person would want her gone.
