The fact that Kyle Garrick doesn't have as much popularity as some of the other characters in the Call of Duty world. is sinful. It's blasphemy.
Look, at first I was one of those people who didn't like Gaz as much as the rest of the Task Force, but now, NOW, I see him as such a valuable member. This is my formal apology to thy beautiful god of a man, Gaz.
And also a post so those that say, 'they don't know anything about Gaz so they cannot include him' - well here's your info babes!

Nationality: British
Rank: Sergeant Sergeant is a senior role of responsibility, promotion to which typically takes place after 12 years of service, depending on ability. Sergeants typically are second in command of a troop or platoon of up to 35 soldiers, with the important responsibility for advising and assisting junior officers.
Birth: 1993 However, he is older than Soap.
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Kyle Garrick enlisted in the British Army in 2008, serving in the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, spending four years participating in test flights, jump competition and marksmanship before passing selection for Her Majesty's elite Special Air Service (SAS), where he is currently serving as a Sergeant for his sixth year.
Tasked to Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria. Garrick has spent the better part of his career hunting terrorist fighters.
Kyle earned the U.S. Marine Corps Gold Parachute Wings at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina whilst on an exchange attachment and routinely cross-loads on operations with the SAS' American counterparts, the Navy SEALs.
Required to undergo resistance to interrogation (RTI) testing, Kyle was the only candidate in his class to escape the facility and evade capture.
Routinely subjected to physically and mentally uncomfortable scenarios, Kyle prides himself on high tolerance and tactical awareness.
Sergeant Garrick was awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal and the General Service Medal for both covert and overt counter-terrorism operations in the Middle East, disrupting opium supply lines and poppy production, a major source of terrorist financing.
With expertise in prime target elimination, demolitions, weapons tactics, covert surveillance and VIP protection, Kyle currently serves on the SAS domestic counter-terror program, executing homefield missions with metropolitan police forces on European soil.
Challenging duty, due to civilian and collateral damage issues, Kyle seeks the opportunity to serve abroad again, and make a real difference combating the threat of terror.
Quotes
" Fuck off, shit pouch."
"It shouldn't have happened in the first place sir."
"They sent us in half assed, so everyone can just keep pretending we're not at war."
"I'm not dead, Nik. I'm hanging from a bloody rope!"
Personality
Very rarely does Kyle demand attention. He's observant problem-solving and bases his decisions on his instincts and values, and focuses on enjoying the present.
However, with the line of work he's in. Kyle has had to change the way he reacts to things. One really obvious scene between him and Cpt Price shows how this job is changing Kyle e.g,. Price’s quote about bloodying your hands after taking the gloves off.
Even so, I do think he's the most gentle of the four men, the kindest - almost like he's clung to his humanity with everything he's got.

9-1-1 REACTION
This reaction is for the season 7, first episode “Ships Ahoy” which originally aired March 14, 2024. This episode was written by series creator Tim Minear and directed by John J. Gray who is also an executive producer on American Horror Story and the 9-1-1 spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Star. So, without further ado, here’s my reaction to the episode.
Tumblr media
We begin the episode with a therapy session. Our resident therapist, Frank (played by Eddie McGee, the first winner of Big Brother USA) is counseling Athena Grant. We are told this scene takes place two months prior to Athena and Bobby leaving for their soon-to-be ill-fated cruise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Athena, having seen the Poseidon Adventure in her youth, is rightfully nervous about being on a boat in the middle of the ocean for several days. What I found funny about this scene is how Athena goes off on this tangent about Shelley Winters being nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her performance in The Poseidon Adventure. When Eddie asks if she won, Athena gives a deadpan look at the camera and says 'no'. This is obviously an allusion to real-life actress Angela Bassett losing out to Jamie Lee Curtis at the 95th Academy Awards ceremony in 2023.
Frank asks if there's any other reason for her anxiety but in true Athena fashion she deflects. He recommends she pack some extra Dramamine. We then get a scene with Athena and Bobby trapped in a room rapidly filling with water. The two of them exchange I love yous and then we get our title card.
Tumblr media
In our next scene, we see Maddie in the middle of a call involving a pilot (played by soap opera actor Mark Lawson) with the Air National Guard. He tells Maddie that he was on a training exercise until he lost communication and engine control with his F-16. He ejected himself from the aircraft and is now hanging on the side of a smokestack. The real emergency is that his plane is about to crash. Maddie's supervisor Sue Blevins (played by Debra Christofferson) and fellow operator Josh Russo (played by Bryan Safi) join Maddie at her desk. Sue asks if there's a way for them to track the aircraft's whereabouts and Josh explains that once a pilot ejects themselves, the plane thinks it's in enemy territory and stops transmitting.
Tumblr media
We move from the dispatch center over to a small home where we see an older couple Edna and Abe (played by Rusty Schwimmer and James Eckhouse, respectively) at their home. I immediately recognized Abe's actor as the dad from the original Beverly Hills 90210. Edna passive-aggressively vacuums while Abe is watching television which leads to an argument. Their bickering, however, is cut short the moment our pilot's F-16 crashes through the couple's living room.
Tumblr media
The 118 arrive at the scene with Hen acting as captain in Bobby's absence. Edna appears to be fine, but Abe is pinned to his recliner by the plane. Hen suggests cutting him out of the chair, but Abe is against the idea. He says he likes the chair more than he likes his wife. Rude! Eddie notices a dummy bomb attached to the plane so Hen gets on the phone with the pilot who tells her it could explode. Maddie tells Hen the Air National Guard will arrive within an hour, but Hen says they cannot wait because Abe has a possible spinal injury. The pilot offers to talk Hen and Eddie through defusing the bomb but due to possible head trauma he is unable to give them adequate instruction. Hen tells Eddie to cut the red wire but before he has a chance, Chimney pulls the lever on the side of the recliner which causes the seat to move back. This gives them plenty of room to remove Abe from the wreckage. Abe is loaded into the ambulance, and he hears Edna calling after him. He tells Chimney to tell her he died.
Back at the house, Chimney talks to Hen about Abe and Edna and wonders how they got to the place where they are now. He asks Hen if she thinks him and Maddie will ever get to that point and Hen assures him that he and Maddie are nothing like Abe and Edna. She then tells him that getting to where Abe and Edna are now only happens if you let it.
Tumblr media
And now to my favorite scene of the episode. We see a shirtless Eddie changing into his civilian clothes very reminiscent of when we first saw him back in season two. Let me just say, I've always been more into Oliver Stark than Ryan Guzman, but I must say, the latter is looking really, really good. Anywho, Buck asks his bestie if he wants to drive go-karts in the desert, but Eddie tells him that he has other plans. Christopher, our sweet baby boy, is a teenager now and has a date and Eddie and his girlfriend Marisol (played by Edy Ganem) are going to supervise. We then learn that Buck is single again which is such a bummer because I really liked Natalia (played by Annelise Cepero) from last season. Buck mentions that it was depressing dating someone whose entire career is centered around death and since he's recovered from his own near-death experience, he wants to be surrounded by life, not death. I think this is a valid reason for why Buck and Natalia are no longer together, but I am disappointed we won't get to see Buck date a beautiful woman of color who had body-ody-ody. Oh well! I hope they find someone nice for our dear Evan Buckley, but it is nice to see him in a good place.
Later on, Chimney talks with Maddie about Abe and Edna. He tells her that the couple allowed themselves to become alienated from each other and he doesn't want that to happen to the two of them. He proposes that they start dating again. Maddie thinks he means other people, but Chimney tells her that he wants them to start dating again. Maddie flashes her ring and tells her that they're past the dating age. This right here is why I think a lot of modern-day couples don't work out. Dating is not just something you do until you settle down with a person. The best marriages I've seen involve both people dating each other even while married. A friend of mine just lost her husband of 50-plus years and up until his death, they still went out together and on vacation together. I do like Chimney's proposal to not just have a honeymoon phase but a honeymoon life but, like most things with him, I think he goes a bit too far.
We next see Bobby and Athena dancing with each other during their first night at sea. I must say, Angela Bassett and Peter Krause look amazing, and I feel like it's my job remind everyone that Angela Bassett is 65 years old and looking like she's fresh in her 40s. Peter has some gray at his temples, but he is only getting better looking with time. When the song ends, they take a seat and Bobby goes over all the things he wants to do while they are on their cruise. Athena tells Bobby he can choose what they want to do but Bobby wants her input.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are interrupted by everyone's favorite couple - Norman and Lola Peterson (played by Daniel Roebuck and Romy Rosemont). The last time we saw Norman and Lola was back in season two. Just in case viewers forgot, Bobby and Athena remind us that Lola climbed onto a billboard over the freeway in just her bathrobe to get Norman's attention. Apparently it worked because the two of them are still together. Athena is shocked to hear that Lola only spent 60 days in jail and I can't say that I blame her. I mean, this is the same woman who waved a loaded gun at the first responders on the scene and even fired off a round. That coupled with indecent exposure and disturbing the peace should've garnered her a longer sentence, but I digress.
The couple credits Athena and Bobby with saving their marriage and tell them that they've been honeymooning for 106 weeks on different cruise ships. Norman and Lola invite Bobby and Athena to go bicycling with them in Mazatlán, but they decline. Back in their room, Athena tells Bobby she found the Petersons to be extremely exhausting. She is also annoyed that she has to put up with them for the next two weeks. Bobby tells her they can spend all their time in the room, but Athena looks hesitant. We flashback to her therapy session with Frank, and we see Athena voice her concerns about her marriage. So much of her relationship with Bobby involves earthquakes and tsunamis and blackouts and escaped rapists and solving murders. When it's just the two of them, alone and without all of the madness, she worries if there's anything left. I love this as a storyline for Bobby and Athena. They are an older couple and with May in college they are also empty nesters. It's very common for couples who are shifting into a new phase of life to reevaluate their relationship.
Tumblr media
Back on the ship, the Petersons stop by their room and ask if they want to join them on a moonlight stroll on the top desk. Bobby starts to decline but Athena accepts their invitation. Bobby is confused by this, but Athena tells him that even though she doesn't like or trust Lola and Norman, there's no need for her to be rude about it. Athena is clearly avoiding being alone with Bobby and he's starting to sense this. I honestly feel bad for both of them.
The following day, Chimney relays his plan to Hen at the firehouse while Maddie talks to Josh at the dispatch center. Chimney has created a spreadsheet with all of their scheduled dates. Josh isn't exactly sold on the idea of Chimney and Maddie micromanaging their love life and Hen tells Chimney that she doesn't think this plan of his is going to last that long. Like I said, I think Chimney wanting to date Maddie is a good idea but any time you introduce a spreadsheet into your relationship, nothing good can come of it.
We then get a scene where Eddie tells Buck about Christopher's date. We learn that our sweet little boy is also a two-timing player-player. Eddie says that he went through Christopher's phone and saw that he's having conversations with multiple girls. Buck is shocked by this news. Eddie says he doesn't know where Christopher would've gotten this behavior since he himself married the first person he ever dated. He suggests that Buck talk with Christopher since he has a history of being a fuck boy.
Tumblr media
Back on the ship, Bobby is trying to get Athena to go on a hike with him, but she tells him he has a migraine. When the Petersons arrive, Athena suggests that Bobby go with them while she stays on the ship. Bobby declines and instead goes to an AA meeting aboard the ship. Regarding this scene, I thought it was a nice touch to show Athena looking at the two young teenagers who are being romantic with each other. The girl is Black and the guy is white – much like Athena and Bobby.
Tumblr media
In our next scene, we meet Nick (played by Chris Gartin) and Sofia (played by Kathryn Boswell). The two start off drinking champagne in the jacuzzi and right before the sexytimes begin, they both throw their champagne flutes. All I kept thinking about during this scene was the broken glass next to the jacuzzi. Right as things are really heating up (pun intended), Nick experiences a cardiac emergency. The 118 arrive at the scene and find Nick unconscious and stuck inside of Sofia. I could not stop laughing when Hen starts giving the medical explanation as to why Sofia (ahem) couldn't remove herself from her boyfriend. The scene only gets funnier when Eddie suggests that Sofia visualize herself as Jell-o. He coaches her through the process, and she is able to (ahem) loosen up enough so she could untether herself from Nick's nether region. Afterwards, Sofia blames herself for the entire situation. She tells Chimney that she pushed too hard to spice things up because she was worried they were becoming too complacent in their relationship. This is yet another sign for Chimney. One last thing about this scene, I love how Buck teases Eddie by saying: "I don't think I've ever seen a man turn a woman off with such skill." Eddie responds by saying: "It's a gift." I love their friendship so much and how they can tease each other like this without either of them getting offended.
Later on, presumably that evening, Buck broaches the topic of not being a fuck boy with Christopher. He tells Christopher that he doesn't want him to get a reputation for being a 'not so good guy'. Christopher asks if it matters or not if he's a nice guy and when Buck asks him what he means, he says that they'll only end up leaving anyway. Buck asks him why he would say something like that, and Christopher tells him that his mom left him. Buck is confused by this and tells Christopher that his mother didn't leave - she died. Christopher counters by saying his mother left him prior to her passing away. "We loved her, and she left anyway." My heart broke hearing this and so did Eddie's as he stood outside of Christopher's room listening in on the conversation. I love that the show has made Christopher a main character this season because there's so much to explore with him now that he's getting older. I thought this scene with Christopher and Buck was so good and a reminder that Buck is very much a member of this family unit.
Tumblr media
Bobby wakes up the next morning and finds Athena gone from their cabin. He finds her having breakfast on the deck and asks her about her migraine. Athena, of course, has forgotten about the lie she told the day before but quickly says she is better. Bobby He accuses her of sneaking out of their room and tells her that since they got on the boat, they've been like two ships passing in the night. He asks her what's going on and why she's avoiding being alone with him. Instead of answering Bobby, Athena notices Norman and waves him over. She asks him about Mazatlán, and he says that everything went well. Athena asks him about Lola and Norman says that she is resting because she got too much sun. He adds that they might not see her any time soon. Athena then notices some scratches on the side of Norman’s neck. He tells her he got the scratches when he fell off his bike. Athena, of course, finds this very suspicious and tells Bobby as much after Norman leaves. Bobby isn't really interested in her suspicions and accuses her of using the Petersons as a buffer. He tells Athena that if she didn't want to come on the cruise, she should have told him so. Athena assures him she wants to be there with him and apologizes. Bobby apologizes for pushing her to do things and suggests they go sit by the pool. Athena is on board with this idea and excuses herself to go get changed into her bathing suit.
Tumblr media
Athena heads to her room but takes a detail at the Petersons' room. She sees a maid exiting the room and asks her about Lola. The maid tells her that the room is empty, and the bed hadn't been slept in. Athena notices a bloody towel and the maid tells her that bloody towels are apparently normal. Meanwhile, Bobby gets tired of waiting and heads back to his room. He finds Athena Facetiming with Hen telling her about the Petersons and her belief that Norman killed his wife. Bobby texts Chimney and tells him not to encourage Athena's suspicions. Chimney shows the text to Hen and Hen pretends that she has lost reception and ends the call. Bobby accuses Athena again of avoiding him, but Athena insists she's not and is only concerned about the dearly departed Lola Peterson. Bobby is frustrated and drags Athena out of their room to prove to her that she is wrong about Norman killing his wife.
Bobby and Athena go to the cruise director, Julian (played by Rick Cosnett), and tell him they are concerned that Lola Peterson did not get back on the ship after visiting Mazatlán. Julian checks his computer and sees that Lola scanned back in along with her husband the day before. He then tells them that she is currently in the dining hall. Thinking that everything is okay, Bobby asks Athena if she would like to address the actual death on the ship - their marriage. Yikes! Bobby then sees Norman standing at the buffet with a woman who is definitely not Lola Peterson.
Tumblr media
Later that evening, Eddie goes to talk to Christopher. When he enters Christopher's room, he notices the picture of Shannon lying face down on his desk. Eddie tells Christopher that he found something of his while he was going through some of his things. He gives Christopher a letter from Shannon, but Christopher doesn't read it. Eddie leaves the room and Christopher opens the letter. As he reads Shannon's letter, the ghost of Shannon (played by Devin Kelley) is standing beside him. I loved this scene. The fandom was absolutely wretched towards Shannon back in season two and I believe it's because of the fandom's treatment of the character that she was killed off. A lot of hatred towards Shannon is based on her abandoning Eddie and Christopher when the latter was young. I understand why people would have a problem with a mother leaving her kid but let's not forget that Eddie signed up for an additional tour of duty fully knowing his wife was struggling back at home. In my opinion, both Eddie and Shannon have failed Christopher, but I don't think that makes them bad parents. Apologies for my rant but I hate how the fans of this show treat the women that Buck and Eddie date simply because they are angry that Buck and Eddie are not a couple. Anywho, when Eddie comes back to Christopher's room he sees the picture of Shannon has been sat back up. What a beautiful scene.
Meanwhile, Chimney tells Maddie that to forget about the spreadsheet and instead of focusing on dating, they should focus on their upcoming wedding. Maddie asks him what led to him changing his mind and he tells her that he's decided they're already doing things right and he's no longer worried about them turning into Edna and Abe. He then takes her outside and shows her his latest purchase - a jacuzzi.
Tumblr media
Our final scene of the episode takes us back to the ship where Athena and Bobby have enlisted the help of the ship's captain - Captain Ochoa (played by Mercedes Colon). Captain Ochoa tells them that she is turning the ship around to head back to Los Angeles due to an approaching storm. Athena says she will have detectives waiting to make the arrest. Bobby tells her not to jump the gun and says she needs to talk to Norman first. Speaking of Norman, he arrives, and Athena starts grilling him about Lola's whereabouts. Norman says that Lola's resting, but Bobby tells him they know he's lying. Athena accuses him of sneaking his side piece onto the ship. Norman says he loves his wife and finally comes clean about what happened. He says that while he and Lola were in Mazatlán, the two of them were accosted by a gang demanding that he hand over a dongle. Athena asks him what a dongle is and Bobby explains that it is used to store bitcoins. Norman insists he doesn't have a dongle and says when he told the men that, they took Lola. Captain Ochoa tells Bobby and Athena that there's been rumors about a retired couple using the cruise line industry as a front for international smuggling. Athena tells Norman that he and Lola fit the profile. Norman tells her that he's a retired dry cleaner. He also tells Athena and Bobby that he was told that if he didn't turn over the dongle at the next port, Lola will be killed.
The episode ends with the same woman we saw Norman earlier, entering an equipment room and using an axe to destroy all the communication devices. We then see several armed men and women in tactical gear ride up to the ship on jet skis and climb aboard. They demand that all the passengers get down on the ground. The last thing we hear is gunshots.
Tumblr media
Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you do a season opener! I am thoroughly pleased with this episode and if I were to rank all the first episodes of each season, this one would definitely make it into the top three. Maybe even the top two. One thing this show excels at is it’s disaster episodes. We usually get one, sometimes two, a season and they rarely, if ever, disappoint. In regard to the shift from FOX to ABC, I could definitely tell a difference this episode. Maybe it’s just me but this episode felt wittier and snappier. Each of the main characters were on point and I loved supporting characters like Josh, Frank and Shannon featured as well. The return of Norman and Lola Peterson was both a surprise and a delight. As a fan of diehard fan of Glee, I love how actors from that show and other Ryan Murphy projects will sometimes pop up on 9-1-1.
This episode leaves me super excited about what’s to come. I’ve been told that this season opener is three parts so next week I’m sure we’ll learn more about what’s really going on aboard Athena and Bobby’s cruise ship. If I were to speculate, I think we’re going to see the two of them teaming up like they have done many times before, only I think Athena will walk away with a better appreciation of her husband. Athena and Bobby are my favorite couple on the show, and I think they are perfect for each other. It is good to see some conflict in their relationship but I’m hoping that conflict will be resolved soon. I can’t imagine these two not being together.
As for Maddie and Chimney, I’m excited to see these two plan their upcoming wedding. Hopefully their wedding won’t be mired in tragedy like TK and Carlos’ over on Lone Star. I do think that we’ll see some conflict between these two. This will be Maddie’s second marriage and considering how her first marriage ended, I think we’re going to see her struggle with walking down that aisle again. It also makes me curious if we will see Jason again, maybe in a flashback or in a nightmare sequence. Something else to consider is how Chimney will handle things as well. Chimney’s parents split up when he was young, and his father abandoned he and his mom to go back to Korea. Perhaps Chimney has some unresolved trauma regarding this that we’ll see explored in further episodes this season.
Tumblr media
Lastly, we have Eddie and Buck. Seven seasons later, there’s still a portion of the 9-1-1 fandom who are demanding these two get together romantically. I don’t see Eddie and Buck as romantic. I don’t think the show has indicated there’s any romantic feelings between the two of them. What I do see is two straight male characters who are close friends who support and care about each other. It frustrates me that there are others who go out of their way to harass the actors and the writers about making their ‘ship’ happen on this show. I actually think the title of this episode is a clever allusion to the whole Buddie fandom and how bat shit insane they’ve been since Eddie was first introduced on the show. I believe the title ‘Abandon Ships’ is the creators’ way of saying: No, we will not be going down that road. What we will show you is a wholesome, non-toxic relationship between two men. Anything beyond that will remain in the plethora of fanfics found on the innerwebs. And yes, I love reading Buddie fanfics but as a viewer, as a queer viewer, I do not need or want Evan Buckley and Eddie Diaz getting romantically involved. It’s okay to have ships or to want to see your two favorite characters get together but please, let’s stop asking Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman questions about it and getting upset when they don’t say what you want them to say. It’s weird! Stop it!
The last thing I will say about this episode is that it’s so good to have 9-1-1 back. I have truly missed this show and I’m happy to have something to look forward to watching each week. I hope next episode we get to focus on Buck and Hen since we didn’t get to see much with their lives this episode. I look forward to seeing what happens with Athena and Bobby and the other passengers on the cruise ship. Until next time …

Tumblr media
In May 1944, a 23-year-old British secret agent named Phyllis Latour Doyle parachuted into occupied Normandy to gather intelligence on Nazi positions in preparation for D-Day. As an agent for the British Special Operations Executive (SOE), Doyle – who celebrates her 102nd birthday today – secretly relayed 135 coded messages to the British military before France's liberation in August. She took advantage of the fact that the Nazi occupiers and their French collaborators were generally less suspicious of women, using the knitting she carried as a way to hide her codes. For seventy years, Doyle's contributions to the war effort were largely unheralded, but she was finally given her due in 2014 when she was awarded France's highest honor, the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour.
Doyle first joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force at age 20 in 1941 to work as a flight mechanic, but SOE recruiters spotted her potential and offered her a job as a spy. A close family friend – her godmother's father who she viewed as her grandfather – had been shot by the Nazis and she was eager to support the war effort however she could. Doyle immediately accepted the SOE's offer and began an intensive training program. In addition to learning about encryption and surveillance, trainees also had to pass grueling physical tests. Doyle described how they were taught by a cat burglar who had been released from jail on "how to get in a high window, and down drain pipes, how to climb over roofs without being caught."
She first deployed to Aquitaine in Vichy France where she worked for a year as a spy using the codename Genevieve. Her most dangerous mission, however, began on May 1, 1944 when she jumped out of a U.S. Air Force bomber and landed behind enemy lines in Nazi-occupied Normandy. Using the codename Paulette, she posed as a poor teenage French girl. Doyle used a bicycle to tour the region, often under the guise of selling soap, and passed information to the British on Nazi positions using coded messages. In an interview with the New Zealand Army News magazine, she described how risky the mission, noting that "The men who had been sent just before me were caught and executed. I was told I was chosen for that area [of France] because I would arouse less suspicion."
She also explained how she concealed her codes: "I always carried knitting because my codes were on a piece of silk – I had about 2,000 I could use. When I used a code I would just pinprick it to indicate it had gone. I wrapped the piece of silk around a knitting needle and put it in a flat shoe lace which I used to tie my hair up." Coded messages took a half an hour to send, and the Germans could identify where a signal was sent from in an hour and a half, so Doyle moved constantly to avoid detection. At times, she stayed with Allied sympathizers, but often she had to sleep in forests and forage for food. During her months in Normandy, Doyle sent 135 secret messages conveying invaluable information on Nazi troop positions, which was used to help Allied forces prepare for the Normandy landings on D-Day and during the subsequent military campaign. Doyle continued her mission until France's liberation in August 1944.
Following the war, Doyle eventually settled in New Zealand where she raised four children. It was only in the past 15 years that she told them about her career as a spy. In presenting the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour to Doyle, French Ambassador Laurent Contini commended her courage during the war, stating: "I have deep admiration for her bravery and it will be with great honor that I will present her with the award of Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur, France’s highest decoration."

A brief reflection on Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss.
December 16, 2023
ROBERT B. HUBBELL
As we begin a mid-December weekend, I offer this brief reflection on Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss.
Jury Awards Ruby Freemen and Shaye Moss $148 million in damages against Rudy Giuliani for defamation.
The damages award of $148 million against Rudy Giuliani encapsulates the madness, frustration, and perseverance that define the lives of millions of activists during the American era of The Big Lie. It is tempting to characterize Giuliani’s defamation of Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss and their hard-won victory as a metaphor for Trump's political arc over the last seven years.
But what happened to Freeman and Moss is not a metaphor. It is the cold, hard reality that slaps each of us in the face every day as we are assaulted by lies heaped upon lies. Not everyone is a direct victim of the lies like Freeman and Moss, but we are all victims, nonetheless.
The point of the lies is not (only) to injure Trump's enemies, it is to erode trust in the system until there are no guardrails left—hoping to create chaos in which the most depraved believe they have an advantage over those still ruled by conscience, decency, and fealty to the rule of law.
Trump and his enablers tell outlandish lies because they know that media outlets will dutifully repeat the lies in headlines and news alerts, reserving tepid skepticism for paragraphs buried deep in their coverage.
Direct victims like Freeman and Moss are viewed as expendable collateral damage. Their names and addresses are shared in dark corners of the web so Trump's followers can make threats even he dares not voice (in public).
The full weight of Trump's malevolent organization was directed at Freeman and Moss. But they did not buckle. Two women who were motivated to help fellow Georgians vote in a free and fair election stood their ground.
Their reputations were smeared by the sitting President of the United States, the Georgia legislature, Fox News, One America Network, Steve Bannon, Rudy Giuliani, and millions of users on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms.
A preacher and a rap star’s publicist teamed up to urge them to falsely confess to non-existent crimes—saying it was the only way to stop the ugly death threats. The FBI’s unhelpful response was to advise them to “Move out of your homes.”
Despite tens of thousands of vile threats, no one was arrested, investigated, charged with crimes, or sued for defamation.
At least not at first.
But the guardrails held. Because Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss stood their ground.
Because they stood their ground, Democrats on the January 6 Committee allowed them to tell their story to the nation.
Because they stood their ground, the rap star’s publicist and the preacher were indicted in Fulton County, Georgia for “solicitation of false statements and influencing witnesses.”
Because they stood their ground, the former president was indicted for lying about the 2020 election. The indictment specifically alleged that the former president was responsible for the campaign to smear Freeman and Moss—lies that were part of his conspiracy to defraud the United States. (See indictment, ¶ 26.)
Then, Freeman and Moss sued Rudy Giuliani for defamation. He did his best to derail and delegitimize the civil claim for damages. But he failed. The guardrails held. All because Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss stood their ground.
Two women who wanted to help people vote in Georgia stood their ground against fancy lawyers and paid liars, a depraved president and corrupt legislators, and a news ecosystem determined to sell as much soap for as long as possible by repeating the baseless claims about Freeman and Moss.
Two women who stood their ground. That is all it took for the guardrails to hold.
It was not easy. Their stance took courage and faith. They suffered mightily. But they persevered. They are heroes of American democracy.
There can be nothing more hopeful than their example—and their victory—to remind us of the power within each of us to maintain the guardrails of democracy. Those who sow chaos in the hope that the most depraved among us will win by brute force are wrong.
People are drawn to those who promote conscience, decency, and fealty to the rule of law—especially during times of turbulence and distress.
Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss prevailed over Giuliani (and Trump) the moment they reported for work on November 3, 2020—because they joined tens of thousands of other Americans in becoming the guardrails of democracy that ensured a free and fair election.

Happy 58th Birthday to the multi-talented Scottish actor Alan Cumming born on January 27, 1965 in Aberfeldy.
Alan Cumming has an amazing volume of work under his belt, last year alone he was involved in 8 different projects and TV and Cinema, add to that he appears on stage, writes, produces, directs things, as you'd imagine there is a lot to go through in his bio.........
Born to Mary (Darling), an insurance company secretary, and Alex Cumming. a forester for Atholl Estate, Alanspent his infant years in Dunkeld before the family moved to Fassfern near Fort William, before moving to the east coast of Scotland in 1969, where Alan's father took up the position of Head Forester of Panmure Estate; it was there that Alan grew up. He went to Monikie Primary School and Carnoustie High School, where he began appearing in plays, and soon after that began working with with the Carnoustie Theatre Club and Carnoustie Musical Society, and never looked back.
In 1981, he left high school with some great exam results in several subjects, but because he was too young to enter any university or drama school he worked for just over a year as a sub-editor at D.C. Thomson Publishers in Dundee. There he worked on the launch of a new magazine, “Tops”, and was also the “Young Alan” who answered readers’ letters.
In September 1982 he began a three-year course at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. He graduated in 1985 with a B.A. (Dramatic Studies) and awards for verse speaking and direction. He also had formed a cabaret double act with fellow student Forbes Masson called Victor and Barry, which went on to become hugely successful with tours (including two Perrier Pick of the Fringe seasons in London and a month-long engagement at the Sydney Opera House as part of an Australian tour), records and many TV appearances throughout the British Isles. Before graduating Alan made his professional theatre and film debuts in Macbeth at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow and in Gillies MacKinnon’s Passing Glory.
After graduating, Alan worked extensively in Scottish theatre and television, including a stint on the soap opera High Road before moving to London when Conquest of the South Pole, a play by German playwright Manfred Karge, transferred from the Traverse Theatre in, Edinburgh to the the Royal Court in London, earning him his first Olivier award nomination for Most Promising Newcomer of 1988.
Alan performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company and then the Royal National Theatre, where he starred in Accidental Death of an Anarchist, which he also adapted with director Tim Supple. The production was nominated for Best revival at the 1991 Olivier awards and Alan won for Comedy Performance of the Year. His film career began with Ian Sellar’s Prague , in which he starred with Sandrine Bonnaire and Bruno Ganz. The film premiered at the 1992 Cannes film festival and went on to win him Best Actor award at the Atlantic Film Festival and a Scottish BAFTA Best Actor nomination. In the same year he made two films for the BBC.
In the 1992 Olivier awards got his second nomination for Comedy Performance of the Year for La Bete. The next year he played Hamlet for the English Touring Theatre to great critical acclaim  going on to play the Emcee in Sam Mendes’ revival of Cabaret. He received a 1994 Olivier award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for “Cabaret”, and for Hamlet he received the 1994 TMA Best Actor award and a Shakespeare Globe award nomination.
In 1994, he made his first Hollywood film, Circle of Friends then two films released in quick succession Emma and GoldenEye as a talented hacker, Boris Grishenko, these films brought him to be noticed by further American producers, and he appeared in several Hollywood films, such as Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and Buddy.
Returning home briefly in 1997 to work with Stanley Kubrick and the Spice Girls before reprising his role in Cabaret on Broadway. The show and his portrayal were a sensation, and he received the many plaudits and awards  for his performance including a Tony  for Best Actor in a Musical
Since then he has alternated between theatre and films, and also between smaller independent films and more mainstream fare. His films include Julie Taymor’s Titus, the Spy Kids trilogy, X-Men 2, Son of the Mask and the Showtime movie musical Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, and Battle of the Sexes.
Cumming’s TV work includes Taggart, of course!  The short lived Scottish sitcom The High Life,  Travelling Man, Third Rock from the Sun, Sex and the City, Foyles War and Dr Who. He is probably best known for starring in the US  legal and political drama The Good Wife
Alan lives in Manhattan  with his husband, illustrator Grant Shaffer, he has been nominated and won too many awards to mention here, and has champion causes for the  LGBT community worldwide. He published a novel,, Tommy’s Tale in 2002,  centring on the life of a bisexual guy living in London, and his biography  Not My Father’s Son, Cumming describes the emotional and physical violence his father inflicted on him in his childhood, he became estranged from his father in his early 20′s and it wasn’t until filming   Who Do You Think You Are in 2010 he spoke to him, his father telling him he suspected he wasn’t his biological father, Alan, along with his brother later had DNA tests which  proved they were indeed his biological children.
Alan today went up in my estimations when he announce he was sending back the OBE he was awarded in 2009 due to "the toxicity of empire".
He explained it in full on his Instagram account, posting;
Today is my 58th birthday and I want to tell you about something I recently did for myself. I returned my OBE. Fourteen years ago, I was incredibly grateful to receive it in the 2009 Queen’s birthday honours list, for it was awarded not just for my job as an actor but ‘for activism for equal rights for the gay and lesbian community, USA’. Back then the Defence of Marriage Act ensured that same sex couples couldn’t get married or enjoy the same basic legal rights as straight people, and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell ensured that openly gay, lesbian or bisexual people were barred from serving in the military. (Incidentally both these policies were instituted by the Clinton administration). This is the statement I made at the time: ‘I am really shocked and delighted to receive this honour. I am especially happy to be honoured for my activism as much as for my work.  The fight for equality for the LGBT community in the US is something I am very passionate about, and I see this honour as encouragement to go on fighting for what I believe is right and for what I take for granted as a UK citizen. Thank you to the Queen and those who make up her Birthday honours list for bringing attention to the inaction of the US government on this issue. It makes me very proud to be British, and galvanised as an American’. The Queen’s death and the ensuing conversations about the role of monarchy and especially the way the British Empire profited at the expense (and death) of indigenous peoples across the world really opened my eyes. Also, thankfully, times and laws in the US have changed, and the great good the award brought to the LGBTQ+ cause back in 2009 is now less potent than the misgivings I have being associated with the toxicity of empire (OBE stands for Officer of the British Empire). So I returned my award, explained my reasons and reiterated my great gratitude for being given it in the first place. I’m now back to being plain old Alan Cumming again. Happy birthday to me!
If you want to see Alan let loose in oor ain land check out Channel 4’s Miriam & Alan: Lost In Scotland where we see the esteemed actor venturing around his native Scotland in a mobile home, with a new friend in tow – fellow thespian, the 80-year-old super Miriam Margolyes. The second series saw then explore the US.
I have to say I hope I look in as good shape as Alan when I reach my 58th birthday........but with just over 4 months left it's not going to happen is it!

Bio
Hazel was born in Perth (Australia) to Indian immigrant parents. She's the second child of the family. She grew up middle class with an engineer mother and a university teacher father. She had a comfortable life and went to private schools. It is where she grew envious of the children of wealthier family. She never lacked anything and had a great life but she always wanted more. She knew she was destined for something bigger.
After graduating high school, she moved to Sydney to start an acting and modelling career. She got a few jobs in commercials and catalogues. She even starred as an extra or a tiny role in a few soaps, shows and films but nothing big. She never got cast in anything important. Still she knew she would make it somehow so she persevered.
Until her father got into an accident. She agreed to move back to Perth to help her mother take care of him since her career was not going anywhere. After her father got better, she wanted to move again but covid hit, stopping her. After the pandemic, she had lost her momentum and decided to quit acting to become an influencer or a singer.
Hazel worked in Louis Vuitton's shop in Perth before being picked to be a spice girl. She spent all day serving the clients she wished she could be. On her freetime, she posted videos and sang at luxurious venues. She was building followers and she kept hoping to be the next big thing. One evening, she was singing at Perth's Ritz-Carlton when a producer noticed her. That was her big break. Six months later she became a superstar.
Now she lives the life she always aspired to and is obsessed with staying relevant. She is doing everything to keep the spotlight on her.
Career
After being a failed model, actress and influencer, Hazel is now ginger spice on the global girlband sensation that is the Spice girls.
The group reached stardom two years ago. She has been living the dream ever since. She makes cameos in movies and tv shows. She went from being an employee to a Louis Vuitton's brand ambassador. She is always at a party, an award, on set, or on tour. She never takes a minute for herself. She has to keep moving and keep eyes on her. She is not the easiest to work with and push the people around her to high standards. She is starting to build herself a diva reputation and is trying to control her image

Finding humanity in ‘A Chorus Line’s’ toughest role
By Paul Hodgins August 15, 2008 at 3:00 a.m. (X)
If the 1984 Olympic diving trials had gone a little differently, you might be hearing the name Michael Gruber mentioned alongside giants such as Greg Louganis.
“I was at the University of Michigan on a diving scholarship,” recalled Gruber, who was ranked the No. 2 diver in the world when he was 14. “When the ’84 trials passed me by, I lost my scholarship and my parents said, ‘Well, if you want to keep going to school, you have to do it in state.'”
That meant coming back to his native Ohio. Gruber decided to pursue his second love, acting, and enrolled in the Cincinnati Conservatory. He hasn’t had many quiet moments since.
“I kind of always have been where the work is. My career’s been on this constant linear path of doing musical theater,” said Gruber, who plays Zach, the controlling choreographer, in the national touring production of “A Chorus Line.”
The show begins its two-week stay Tuesday at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
Gruber’s relationship with the famous 1975 Michael Bennett musical predates this version by almost two decades. He joined the original Broadway production of “A Chorus Line” the year before it closed in 1990, playing Mike, one of the auditioning chorus dancers.
Gruber saw and learned a lot during his first stint in the show, which features 17 hopefuls spilling their hopes, fears and ambitions to Zach, an intense, Bennett-like choreographer who conducts Freudian interviews with each character that probe their deepest recesses. One of the high points of Gruber’s first “Chorus Line” experience was watching the original Zach, Robert LuPone, reprise his role near the end of the run.
“It was especially great to see Bob. And I’ve watched a lot of archival footage, which is great – the Tony Awards the year ‘A Chorus Line’ was the opening number. I was also fortunate to see a pristine tape of the gala performance that took place when it became (Broadway’s) longest-running show.”
Though others have played Zach with a Machiavellian, almost evil twist, Gruber doesn’t see his character that way.
“I think it’s important to remember that ultimately the show isn’t about him. That, to me, is the biggest trap about playing Zach: making him too much of a presence. He’s there as a catalyst for the people in the line.”
Another danger point for actors portraying Zach is the moment when he makes the transition from disembodied voice (we hear him but don’t see him in the first part of the show – he’s in the tech booth) to flesh-and-blood character.
“When he finally comes on stage and becomes more of a human being, it’s kind of a soap opera – it’s written very melodramatically. But if it goes too dark, it becomes people screaming at each other. It’s not really that. I’m trying to constantly find the balance and walk the tightrope.”
EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE HELPS
Some are turned off by Zach, accusing him of being overly controlling and even sadistic in his treatment of the dancers. Gruber sees that point of view, but thinks Zach shouldn’t come off that way if he’s played correctly.
“He’s not an unlikable character, but you know, being a choreographer and a director is not a popularity contest. Michael Bennett had the incredible talent of making people love him, even though he could be really impossible and demanding and game-playing – someone we might call a borderline personality nowadays. You have to let that be present, but he’s not all one way or the other.”
“Bob LuPone played him very dark, but this time around Bob (director Bob Avian, who assisted Bennett in the original production) wants me to be a little more likable. If he’s too much of a tyrant, we really can’t understand what Cassie sees in him (Zach and Cassie, an aging auditioner, are former lovers). But if he becomes too warm and fuzzy he loses his authority.”
Gruber said it helps to be a mid-career performer when playing a character with some history and emotional baggage.
“Someone asked me, ‘What was the difference between playing Mike back in ’89 and playing Zach now?’ I was 24 when I did Mike – the perfect age for him. I’d just moved to New York. Now I’ve been in nine Broadway shows and I’ve lived in New York for 20 years.
“I’m going to be 44 soon. I’m in a whole different place. I’ve got the right experience now for this part.”
When he was in the original “Chorus Line” production, Gruber was full of questions about Bennett, whom he never worked with – the choreographer died of AIDS in 1987.
“I’d ask people who knew him, ‘What was Michael like?’ They told me he would compartmentalize. He’d act one way toward one person and a completely different way toward another. He’d seduce and fragment people.”
Gruber laughed. “But everyone who knew him had completely different perspectives. So in the end, you have to forget about all that and make your own choices.”

I honestly think out of the main British soaps (Eastenders, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, and Coronation Street), Emmerdale may be the worst out of the lot rn. I feel like the other three soaps have AT LEAST one or two storylines that are kind of interesting and keep people watching, but Emmerdale just doesn't have anything! It's so boring. I watched the national television awards and even with the brief snippet they showed of Emmerdale, it looked like the most basic and boring soap out of them all. Not to mention that Emmerdale's ratings have lowered and the buzz around the show is poor compared to the other soaps, even Hollyoaks which has always been the underdog. I've lost so much interest in the show, I've basically stopped watching. They really need a huge overhaul. I just hope they're starting to realize that a big change needs to be made. I think the best way to do this would be to completely start fresh with new showrunners. Eastenders had a huge overhaul and even though the show is not my fave, they've done a good job at starting fresh and creating buzz for the show again.
I'm glad they didn't win anything at the NTAs last night. They certainly didn't deserve it. I feel like they're just floundering right now. They really do need a complete overhaul with someone coming in with a fresh vision and plan for how to rehabilitate the show.
I haven't watched in over three weeks now. I mean that's also cause I kind of fell down a Red White and Royal Blue rabbit hole and suddenly had new tabs to refresh but also because the show is garbage and there's really not a single storyline that I read about that makes me want to actually watch.
I have zero interest in this Lydia story because I just don't think it should be happening in the first place. It's bad enough that it's yet another rape story but it's that on top of her being basically off screen for months and then coming back not only to this but to revisiting the whole stillborn baby plot too. It feels like they're just stuck with all of these characters and only know how to give them one story and so they just continually go back to that well and pile on more misery and it's exhausting.
I'm annoyed with what they're doing with Gabby. All they do is have her throw herself at unavailable men. At some point, maybe it would be nice if a guy actually liked her back. Radical thought. Maybe her character could actually grow?!? Not to mention, her continued hatred of Nicky and trying to screw him over is just boring. Everyone else has moved on. It's not like he wasn't being manipulated into it all anyway. I wish they'd just had them become friends.
Anything with random plot gangsters is a no go for me. The fact that it also involves Nate is just doubly bad.
I truly could not care less about Amelia.
I know the Cathy actress needed a break for exams or whatever so they shipped her off in the middle of her story but the fact that they're bringing her back just to finally give her the diagnosis we've all known about for months and she knew she had already is just silly. I'd rather have her learning to adjust rather than lashing out over a diagnosis.
I might watch some of the stunt week just to see Chloe die if that actually happens. But I just could not care less about that love triangle. It's so tedious and boring and none of these people work together and I wish they'd just let everyone move the fuck on.
I can't believe they're going back to the David and Victoria well for his exit. They truly have nothing to do with these characters. It's just sad.
I think the only thing right now that might get me to watch again is if they actually brought Amit in for Jai and Suni. The fact that they killed Rishi off and then the whole story seemed to just die with him is so wild to me. I have to assume that it's going to come back but it's just so dumb that Jai spent his last weeks with Rishi hating him for this lie and then turned around and decided he would just continue the lie with Suni. It's kind of ridiculous. And while I feel like it all has to come up again and they have to bring in Amit eventually, I could equally see it being forgotten about entirely because these people suck that much.
So yeah...they really have a whole lot of work to do.

Nationality: American
Origin: New York City, New York, USA
Residence: New York City, New York, USA
Profession(s): CCN Reporter
Family: Unnamed husband
Affiliation(s): CCN (formerly)
Profile
Height: 5'6" Age: 47 (season 3) Weight: 158lbs Eyes: blue Blood: B-
A reporter for CCN, Vicki is in her mid-forties and has curly reddish-blonde hair, flawless pale skin and steel blue eyes behind pink-framed glasses. She wears a two-piece magenta pantsuit with a crisp white dress shirt and simple jewelry consisting of earrings and a matching necklace.
As per her suspect appearance in Lights, Camera, Death! it is known that Vicki wears sunscreen, has read The Ringed Lord, and drinks SunCola.
Synopsis
Vicki was the killer of Lois Kane in Lights, Camera, Death! She was a reporter for CCN and worked alongside Lois and other well-known reporters. And while she enjoyed being out in the field as a news reporter, she longed to take the seat as the head anchorwoman for the 6 o'clock news spot.
But Vicki found out that the station was planning to give the position to Lois. She thought she deserved it more for having higher seniority, but she never considered that she didn't have the personality or social skills for the job like Lois did. Vicki tried everything she could to impress her bosses, even offering to lead the news team travelling to Saultanstine. But the best she could get was a position on the team working under Lois!
Swallowing her pride in hopes of proving herself, Vicki joined the team in the desert country and did everything she could to impress her teammate. But everything she did seemed to get overshadowed by Lois's natural gift for reporting. And with every praise Lois received, it was like a slap to Vicki's face.
After a few weeks, Vicki couldn't take it anymore. Her patience and anger were at the ends of their rope, and it was only a matter of time before she exploded. And that moment came when she overheard Lois telling Carl and Louis how she would become the head anchorwoman when they returned to the US.
It was one thing to know that CCN was planning to offer Lois the job, but it was even more insulting to Vicki to hear that Lois had accepted the position. Filled with jealous rage, Vicki stole a kilij from a hotel display and hid inside the closet of Lois's room.
After the reporter had finished showering and excited the bathroom, Vicki pounced and attacked. She stabbed Lois in the stomach with the curved blade and pierced her heart. Vicki left Lois to bleed out on the bed while she went to dispose of the murder weapon and wash the blood off her hands.
But no amount of soap could scrub away Vicki's misdeeds. After a day-long investigation, plus getting into a fistfight with Carmen, Vicki was arrested. She cursed the agents for sending her to prison and ruining her career. The only bright side was that Carl and Louis managed to finish the documentary, but that was also destroyed when she saw that they had cut her from the film and discredited her.
And to rub salt in the wound, the documentary was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize… A reporter's most sought-after award and something Vicki will never get to win.

I'm doing a bit of a robron rewatch (not the whole story, just some episodes that I really liked) and I just finished SSW 2016, and the first wedding. They were truly Good Times. I feel like (and I'm obviously completely wrong in these thoughts!) that we as a fandom were pandered to in a way that hasn't happened before or since. Obviously all the Soap Stuff happened (the car crash, the wedding crash, later the marriage crash), but it feels like all the things we wanted for Robert and Aaron happened. And of course, that wasn't the case at all: this award winning, national soap did not see that the robron fandom needed feeding and delivered us a sheer smorgasbord of treats, but for a little while it felt that way. And it wasn't like it made us feel entitled or powerful, it just made us feel happy. And it made us feel connected with each other, because we were sharing all these highs and lows with each other, and feeding off each others excitement. It really was the best of times (and at times the worst of times), and I feel so... is grateful too strong a word? Possibly, but heck I'm gonna use it anyway. I'm grateful to have gone through all of that, and to have gone through it with you guys.

top 5 art mediums?
Ooh good one, thanks for the ask friend! I’ll opt to answer regarding my favorites to work in, which are not necessarily my favorites to see others work in (for example, I love oils and watercolors but I can’t paint for shit in either lol).
1. Digital - my go-to bc it’s so low stress. What would I do without the “undo” button? Pretty sure I would die aksjsk. Also animation is cool! And I sure as hell don’t have the patience for traditional animation
2. Stone - usually I work in soap stone bc it’s easiest but I would LOVE to work in marble or something someday. One of my favorite things is when there’s something living inside the stone which crawls its way out and I just act as the guide to help it along its journey to freedom.
3. Ink - any type of ink! Pen, India, they’re all good! But definitely the opposite of “low stress,” every time I work in ink I near about shit myself with anxiety lol
4. Sculpey - now ft. silicon casts and wax to make custom candles! But whether it’s jewelry or base sculptures for candles, sculpey is an excellent medium with its easy-bake formula that retains flexibility to diminish shattering upon impact
5. Wood - both carving and burning, but mainly carving. Bas relief wood carving my beloved <3
Honorable mention goes to acrylic paint, we love a fast drying queen !!! (Oil is superior in pretty much every way, but I canNOT retain focus long enough to wait for that shit to dry between layers.) I also love photography, particularly film photography! Only thing I ever won a National award for was film photography and I feel homesick for the darkroom sometimes ;-;
