more Neverafter fanart (of varying quality). i did a “chaotic entitled” version of the first drawing, because of course everyone latched on to these two phrases. the second drawing is from the very hilarious exchange re. the magic mirror and how Rosamund doesn’t do makeup, she just dabs a bit of blood on her face to make her cheeks rosy. oh, also, the Procreate brush Hartz is the new love of my life. (against my better judgement i am doing inktober this year)

this is a functional maze (if you’d like to print it out, you can get a hi-res version here). i am going to overexplain this one because i am not yet very good at visually implementing ideas.

the ‘official’ prompt #3 was ‘path’. i was thinking a lot about the Minotaur and its labyrinth (wonderfully executed by James Fenner here). i do not have the skills to draw either.

i was thinking of Ariadne’s string, and i did not know that Ariadne’s Thread also describes a logical approach (an algorithm, even) for problem-solving.

would Alcathea’s perhaps sell a charm to expedite Ariadne’s Thread? it might—but i was amused by the obligatory fine print if it wasn’t a real charm, just one worn by practitioners who have a lot of money and care a lot about appearances.

i tried to make the charm look like a ball of wool/yarn. i think that would have worked better if the outer border wasn’t a perfect circle. ah well, next time.

once in a while, i am capable of finishing a thing (not to be cliche, but it's my first design chef 🤓)

Design Chef is a fun design/art challenge run by Elliot Ulm on Twitch. he really cooked with this month's: a (mildly) RPG-themed one called D&DC, where you get to roll dice to get the design brief https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pg9JrVR1FOmvmFB6jAqqCd75TpMsh7HAbM9YUwELo3k/edit

I used the fonts Mislab and Roster because i had to use slab serifs, digitally drew the images, and came up with a gig poster for all the anxiety tracks that play in my head. the right-hand version is put through Spoon Graphics's Bad Print Effects Photoshop action.

thoroughly against the spirit of Design Chef, i spent, like, five hours on this.

two of seven 🤓 resurrected this challenge mainly because i’m too hyper/anxious to work on deadlines that have already flown by, and i’m trying to get some focus-dopamine by finishing a thing i might enjoy. [ID: my C entry for this year’s 36 Days of Type. A letter C is surrounded by blue-green rocks, both smooth pebbles and jagged broken-off pieces. At the bottom are the words “Chrysoprase: A variety of silica gemstone that gets its colour from nickel. (Also a Discworld character.) 13.04.2023.”] (yeah this was pretty much an instant decision. i was only waiting for confirmation that “chrysoprase” is an actual word before drawing it. having never looked it up before, i hadn’t known it’s also my favourite colour ever. also, now i have all sorts of questions. how is “gem” even defined? is a mineral the same as a rock? o brave new world that has such cryptocrystallines in it.)

free resource: A4-size Canva crossword template

i've been wanting to create and share resources for longer than i've had the ability to; now that i'm starting to be able to do it, i'm going to share my kid attempts. here is a Canva template for crossword-setters to design a nice A4-sized crossword.
