What does purpurs drawings mean 😨

Purpur's drawings represent a cycle.

It takes a bit to piece it together, mostly because Purpur's drawings, just like his perception of reality, leave a lot to be desired.

He doesn't get to see every moment shared between you and Nebul, he doesn't understand certain complex concepts either. And, most of all, he trusts Nebul implicitly.

A lot of things are normalized in the noodleball's mind. You're always wearing a collar because that's just how things are! You tear up often, which Nebul assures is also normal, that's why most humans are drawn crying- Yet also smiling, because they just do that sometimes around Nebul.

What he drew there symbolizes a major event before you showed up. There was someone else in his life, someone both him and Nebul loved. Well, something happened to that person, and now he's all alone. But that doesn't matter anymore, because his "dad" found someone else, someone better he says!

Purpur just knows you'll fit right in, he's so excited to have a new friend.

NOODLE BALLS

I’m not gonna make this one look pretty because fuckit, I’m eating ‘em out of a strainer.

So I actually learned this from my host mom in Jamaica, who also taught me how to make eggs the only way my body can choke them down (which is another recipe post unto itself).

ANYWAY, in Jamaica something we ate almost every day were these little noodleball-things. They were literally just flour and water combined until no longer incredibly sticky, then rolled together on a floured surface with floured hands into a ball and boiled in salted water.

When I returned to America, I put my own Jamaica-inspired spin on it: before adding the water to the flour, I’d mix in a couple of spices. It varied from day to day. Today, I roasted and crushed some cumin, added some ground thyme, some tumeric, and a little salt for flavor.

I’ve been missing our Dutch egg noodles (grew up in Pa Dutch territory), so instead of combining with water I combined with eggs to see how it turned out. I salted the hell out of my water to add just a little extra flavor since I knew I wouldn’t be eating this with a sauce and added some oil to prevent sticking before dropping them in.

You know they’re done when they float to the top.

I made mine too big, so the centers weren’t quite done yet. I’d recommend keeping them around the size of a cherry tomato or smaller. The egg also created a nearly bread-y effect in the innermost cooked layer, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but also wasn’t what I’m used to.

I think if I were to make a sauce, some sort of vegetable purée would be the way to go. Bell peppers would go splendidly with the cumin. I’d be wary of trying an Italian marinara because I think the oregano/basil would conflict with the flavors already in here. However, I’m sure one could also make noodles with the right spices to match to that flavor profile.

Does Nebul look in the sketchbook? What are his thoughts on it?

Nebul offers Purpur the slightest amount of privacy, as no pet likes to be constantly smothered. Especially not one as intelligent as Purpur, who requires alone time to recharge from dealing with people alongside Nebul all day. Nebul's interest in the noodleball's drawings isn't that great. Yes, they can be great insights into the curious creature's mind, but he doesn't often go out of his way to flip through them.

Just as this post implied, you were the first to find this particular sketchbook. Because, if it had been Nebul, that would have been quickly discarded.

Is Purpur the only one of his species or are there more noodleballs? Do the noodles live in jungles and that why you don't see them much? I guess the jungles since Purpur seems to be a natural at swinging.

Did Rinx try to buy Purpur from Nebul Or Does Nebul keep Purpur a secret from customers ?

I leave a lot about Purpur's species up to interpretation on purpose, because I like the thought of him being a mystery creature.

These unidentifiable creatures stem from a greater being and generally spread across specific sections of the world, all of which tend to be uninhabited and generally perilous to humans and monsters. They're good at using their environment to hide, and most have never been found. Emphasis on most, Purpur has always been a little too curious for his own good, which led to him being snatched up, passing from person to person until Grimbly gifts him to Nebul.

Rinx did initially think Purpur was for sale, and his touchy habits got Nebul to nearly ban him, because the wraith knew that letting the demon lord grab Purpur means he'll never get his pet again. Vesper was also dumb enough to mistake Purpur for one of the not-alive tentacle toys in the shelves, so that wasn't pretty either... Honestly, Nebul's had it with Hell Icons.
