Bunch of random John doodles I did during the strike
.
(Please do not use, trace, or repost my works anywhere without explicit permission from me thanks)
Honestly figuring out how to draw young JD was weirdly difficult i don't know why. Still tryna make it look like him but he has that squishy baby face still, and he's shorter
I still probably won't post much since the strike JUST ended and I'll keep reblogging stuff regardless but you know

being an adult means we can buy or make as much self-indulgent shit (as we can afford) and unironically have trinkets of our fave things cause our teen years was bullied for liking things and hiding/denying we were ever neurodivergent to the point of suicide. sucks for anyone that thinks its weird cringe but I'm going to try and allow myself to love myself in little ways now

will forever be funny to me that so many hermits start randomly saying “oh snappers”/“oh snap” like its a normal part of their vocabulary as soon as etho is around. he lives in a truman-show-esque world where he thinks “oh snappers” is a normal phrase everyone says but little does he know his friends are actually trying to be funny

This is coming up with Orym, and it came up with Yasha and to an extent Keyleth too (as well as many other characters; see tags). Anyway: there is never going to be a moment when those characters are not grieving. If you wait for them to stop grieving, you will wait until they themselves die - and to be clear I do not mean this in the sense of “the grieving spouse clearly seeks death so that they may be reunited”; I mean “that loss will always exist in their lives, and they will grow around it and find other joy and love, but there is no moment when the hole that person left closes and is gone.” You can interpret where those characters are in their grieving process, which is a complex and nonlinear one, and you may perhaps feel they’re not ready, but if you do, it’s worth asking yourself what “ready” would look like because it will not look like an absence of grief. More specifically to Orym, if you are rethinking this because there was a scene at Will’s grave, that’s a big part of the nonlinear aspect - how someone will speak about the death graveside, or how they may speak about it in specific places, or on anniversaries, is very different to their day-to-day experience with grief.
Which isn’t to say you can’t interpret Orym as still in, for lack of a better term, the full mourning period; I’m noting it both because it is a pattern in the fandom for characters who have lost spouses, and because within that pattern, the discussion seems to treat life after the death of a partner as a dichotomy of “grieving” and “not grieving”, in which romantic love is only possible when one is in the "not grieving" state, which is fundamentally untrue to life.

people who act like “woobifying” a character is some unforgivable sin are sooo boring and judgy. like what if i do sympathize with a fictional anime boy and portray him as a little misunderstood emo boy and headcanon him as having my same mental illnesses and having done nothing wrong that can’t be forgiven. who is that hurting??

you either die having created a well-written and fun indie RPG (e.g. Toby Fox) or live long enough for your page to get deleted from the wiki of the game you were the lead developer of

So we don't know really when Clarisse got that spear so I kind of like the headcanon that she got it when she first got to the camp. Like 7 year old Clarisse having nothing from anywhere or anyone, no family at all and then there's Ares who claimed her and immediately armed her. Measuring her height against the spear she can barely hold at first.
This is a super adorable headcanon, and I love it so much omg. Just picturing a tiny Clarisse getting claimed and trying to hold a too big spear is so sweet.
I never really considered Ares giving it to her when she got claimed tbh. For some reason I always thought that it was something that was left for her. Like, when Ares slept with Clarisse’s mom he gave her the spear with instructions to give it to Clarisse when she went to camp. The spear was a sort of reminder of the legacy that she was meant to live up to. A bittersweet promise for more attention if she earned it, I guess?

the bg3 fanbase is funny as fuck in a bad way for primarily shipping gale, who is the most garrulous man you can imagine, with astarion, whom gale goes "uh 😐 not really looking to talk with you man" at when prompted for conversation, and not with wyll, whose party admission gets a "gale approves" and then they proceed to compliment each other 24/7.

Beefleaf isn't canon. Mxtx has said she doesn't like to write another gay ship different from the main (she struggled with svsss)
I have heard about this! The content I saw was just so insistent about Beefleaf that I wondered if maybe I was misremembering and the "no same-gender side couples" thing applied to MDZS only. (I have gotten similar vibes from Moshang and from whatever Yue QIngyuan and Shen Jiu's ship name is, but I've now obtained Vol. 1 of SVSSS and plan to read it, so if those two aren't actually canon, don't tell me! It can be a surprise!)
The "no side couples"--or, in MDZS's case, "no queer characters AT ALL besides the protag, his love interest, and the disgraced goth weirdo who annihilates himself to resurrect the protag"--thing confuses me, because... I guess I don't get the point of it? I totally understand not having the bandwidth to develop more than one couple. The challenge of adequately building up other relationships fully independent of your main couple without detracting from the exploits of your protagonist and his love interest could be daunting, as would expanding the story's focus and juggling multiple equally-prominent lead characters for an effective ensemble piece. But here it seems like people picked up a vibe between the characters from what was already there in the text and then MXTX was like, "oh, no, they're not a couple! there's just the one couple!" and THAT I don't get. If she's disinterested in writing women, but has a cast of attractive men who are all obsessed with each other, why not toss a romance in there between some of the guys? Again, you can keep it entirely as-is and just toss a kiss in there or confirm in interviews that yes, they were in love, and you're so happy readers picked up on that even though you didn't get to tell their full story on the page.
I am extrapolating based on the Xiyao situation specifically, so maybe this doesn't apply to her other works! But it is a choice that confuses me. A couple doesn't have to be that developed; Xuanli certainly aren't, but their existence is a major plot point. I should think that the presence of other m/m couples would bolster the main couple, if anything, because it sets a precedent for them existing in their world. There are situations where adding an expressly romantic element would change something fundamental about the relationship, but there are just as many where the addition of a romantic element changes nothing or makes it make more sense (case in point: Xue Yang's freakout after killing Xiao Xingchen).
Like I said, I get not wanting to devote energy to it, and I also get that sometimes a work or performance is received by the audience in ways the artist didn't intend (this is the Destiel website, after all), but to make it a conscious choice to have One M/M Couple Only? Based on what I currently know, this perplexes me.

The semester is almost over which means! We're almost back to analyzing the entirety of the Sherlock Holmes canon while looking at Victorian queer culture!! Stay tuned!
P.S. I am such a boomer when is comes to tumblr dot com and since I post other fandoms/interests a lot would being updated for this be easier with a tag to follow? I'll add a poll since my reach is tragically small (I am but a little guy) and who doesn't love a good survey

I'm not saying that commenting on fics and engaging with writers by screaming at them in excitement is necessary, but back in 2016 I busted out an 80K fic in two weeks and maintained a posting schedule of every other day and I don't think that would have happened if I wasn't averaging like 30 reviews on ff.net per chapter while also getting chatty tags and asks about the fic.
Other people have said this plenty of times, but shockingly when you get excited about something and someone else gets excited too, you're more likely to continue being excited.

Sometimes I think about the long term side effects that could have happened to Wei Wuxian after being strangled by Jiang Cheng and my heart aches at how he just laid there and accepted it

The fact that Shapey, Block, and Bloberta are all in the "loathesome characters wiki" while characters like Clay and Censordoll, who are objectively worse people, aren't in it makes me sad.
