Of all the people in the poll, I would expect Etho to have zero clue about this poll’s existence or what Tumblr is.
Leave it to CaptainSparkles to disabuse me of the latter notion.

Women Are Physiologically Primed for Parenthood (And So Are Men)
In 2017 The New York Times published a short piece called "The Birth of a Mother." It explored something anthropologists have termed matrescence, or the process of becoming a female parent. The writer noted: "[T]his transition is also significant for fathers . . . , but women who go through the hormonal changes of pregnancy may have a specific neurobiological experience." The nod to fathers is cursory. The "but" that follows makes the sentence's point: that women are the sex hormonally primed for parenthood. This notion is so generally accepted that it escaped the fact-checker's scrutiny. Like most of the conventional wisdom about the hard-core nature of maternal versus paternal parenting, it's also misleading. Men undergo their own neurobiological experience as their babies-to-be gestate. Throughout the prenatal period, men in close contact with pregnant partners are physiologically primed to care for infants. Expectant fathers experience a rise in the levels of the pregnancy-related hormones prolactin, cortisol, and estrogen in proportion to that of their baby's mother. Additionally, testosterone, associated with competition for mates, declines. Second-time fathers produce even more prolactin and less testosterone in the company of a pregnant partner than do first-timers. [...] Throughout their children's lives, involved fathers continue to experience hormonal changes. In North America, men in long-term relationships like marriage and fatherhood almost uniformly have lower testosterone levels than their single and childless counterparts. [...] As anthropologist Sarah Hrdy observes in Mothers and Others: "Men are physiologically altered just from spending time in intimate association with pregnant mothers and new babies. To me, this implies that care by males has been an integral part of human adaptation for a long time. Male nurturing potentials are there, encoded in the DNA of our species. [...] [In the late '70s], psychologist Ross Parke and colleagues studied fathers of newborns in maternity wards. For most of the behaviors his team measured, fathers and mothers hardly differed. Men spoke to babies in high-pitched voices and responded with sensitivity to infant cues during feeding. They also exhibited patterns similar to their wives when holding their children. The major difference Parke observed was that fathers, unlike mothers, took a step back from their child's care in the presence of their spouse. [...] In a study that measured response times and hormone levels in parents listening to infant cries, mothers and fathers were equally reactive to wails of distress (recordings of baby boys being circumcised). When the cries were fussy rather than pained, mothers' physiological responses and then also their reaction times were a little quicker than fathers', though fathers' responses were quicker than those of childless adults.

Sano & Haru:Chronically Connected
THE END...FOR NOW!!!!
We reached the end my fellow yohaji enjoyers~ Hope you all enjoyed my ramblings about my favorite duo.
(Chapter 83-92)
Tumblr media
☆Chapter 83。.。:+* ゚ ゜゚ *+:。.。:+* ゚ ゜゚ *+:。.。.。:+*゚
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throughout this whole chapter Sano shows that he will the first one to run after Haru. When haru runs towards the shrine he doesn't stop to wonder what is going on. Choosing to go after him and be the first to be there.
When Haru gets his soul taken, he was the first one to snap out of his shock to try to get his soul back. And in turn this gets the rest of the students to instantly kick into gear and follow his lead.
When Haru's body falls, he goes after it, again all instinct and no plan. He even seemingly turns their bodies so that he would take the bulk of the impact.
☆Chapter 84。.。:+* ゚ ゜゚ *+:。.。:+* ゚ ゜゚ *+:。.。.。:+*゚
Tumblr media
Sano, desperately trying to get keep Haru's soul safe accidentally has his powers get of control and her shatters his soul. You can see the boy trying his best to keep his seimei-sensei safe. And when you see his face after and see how devastated he is you can tell how far we've come.
Old Sano would feel horrible about hurting someone this bad with his powers, but current Sano feels even more horrible that it is someone who he so obviously cares about. Someone he was will to sacrifice his own wellbeing for, being hurt by him.
(Side note-it was really heart warming to see even students who don't get as much time to show their relationship with Haru still show that they love this man, such found family vibes!)
☆Chapter 87。.。:+* ゚ ゜゚ *+:。.。:+* ゚ ゜゚ *+:。.。.。:+*゚
And now for the Haru version of "tragic moment in this relationship during this arc".
Haru, currently in a state where he only has his physical capabilities and his desires, as soon as he see Sano clings to him. He stays clinging to him this chapter and it's very cute. But also it's kinda sad, even with no responses, no memories, not even his intellect/powers to protect him, he still tries to be there for Sano, he kept his promise that he offered him when Sano admitted to being a god. Haru tries to give him his same comforting aura that he use to have.
Tumblr media
In this dulled state he even does what Sano has been doing for him just a couple chapters ago, and tries to take a hit for Sano's wellbeing. He is practically a walking doll with an antenna that responds to sailor uniforms, yet he still chooses to sacrifice himself for the first person to know his secret in the class, someone who doesn't treat him like he needs to be babied, someone who has grown with him to be a better version of themselves.
A person who is closer to being his first, though reluctant and annoyed by the notion, friend at the school.
☆Chapter 90。.。:+* ゚ ゜゚ *+:。.。:+* ゚ ゜゚ *+:。.。.。:+*゚
Tumblr media
Another moment were Sano puts himself down but now it's for his inability to properly control his powers. He talks about how he doesn't have faith in his misfortune powers not backfiring and landing on his target.
But, just like when he was lamenting for being an outcast, Haru steps in to comfort Sano again. Haru, the one who has shown that he trusts and knows the true potential of Sano, tells him simply that he believes him. Haru effortlessly gives Sano the same ease that got him out of all his previous "bad feelings spirals". He so genuinely and enthusiastically cheers and reminds Sano that he know he can do it.
☆Chapter 92。.。:+* ゚ ゜゚ *+:。.。:+* ゚ ゜゚ *+:。.。.。:+*゚
Tumblr media
And now its Haru's turn to have a lowest point. Faced with patching up a hole in an ancient barrier, he gets overwhelmed about how he can quickly fix the problem.
And sano quickly asserts that Haru can do. He chooses to pay Haru back for continuing believing in him. He knows Haru can do it.
And this really shows how well the two know each other. When Haru was cheering on Sano, he was doing a very passionate cheer, constantly showing full support and belief in Sano.
But with Sano cheering on Haru, he knows how to motivate him and keep his mind on track. He treats him like an adult who just needs to be reminded a bit.
They both know the best ways to help the other in these moments. And really that just shows the natural evolution of this relationship that you can see naturally growing over the whole course of the manga. I may not know where they go in the future but I do know that this a bond that won't easily break!
Tumblr media
Finally were done!!! OMG these boys and their relationship with each other!!!!
Again hoped you enjoyed it!!!
Bye~☆

Being best friends with jisung
Part 5 to the 'its complicated' series, full series paged linked at bottom!
Warnings : Lots of fluff towards the end, Bold jisung
Genre : Bestfriend!Jisung x gn!reader
Barely proofread btw lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Unlike the other stories in this series, you and jisungs relationship is a bit different.
• You're not really friends, but you're not really lovers either, it's just... complicated
• You two often share earphones on the way to school until one day one of the ears stop working so sound only comes out of one ear so he tells you to bring your earphones with you next time, which you do
• 'so uh I bought one of these because one of the ears broke so..'
• He bought one of those heartshaped earphone adapters that turn it into 2 headphone jacks -instead of just buying a new pair of earphones-
• You suggest that you could just use your ones but he already bought it, and 'it would be a waste not to use it'
• So now you're here sitting at the back of the bus on your 3 hour bus ride home listing to your spotify blend through jisungs phone
• Spotify says you and him are an 83% match, so maybe they do know what they're talking about despite your daily mixes past #2 being anything but accurate of what you listen to
• Regardless you wanted to belive that it could mean more than just your music compatibility
• You two actually are very alike
• Both were very quiet,
• until you were sat next to eachother in class, where you first met
• He's not one to strike conversation, but he feels more at ease to talk to quieter people
• Which is why you two clicked
• You felt like you wouldn't judge eachother and you understood eachother
• You ended up preferring him over your current friend group, wishing that you two could grow closer to the point where you could have an excuse to hang out with him besides homework help
• That was until you were assigned a group research project with your deskmate
• This was your perfect opportunity
• It was worth 40% of your grade so of course, you'd have to take this seriously
• But that won't stop you from stealing sly glances at his puckered lips while hes concentrating
• Or stop you from wanting to ruffle his hair
• Or poke and pinch his cheeks everytime he laughs or puffs them
• Or kiss his plush lips
• What? No..
• It's just your intrusive thoughts, you guys are good friends thats all
• You're almost too concerntrated on focusing on your work and not making it obvious that you'd been staring at his lips for an obscene amount of time to realise
• How everytime you look up at him, he was already staring at you
• Or how rosy his cheeks were everytime you looked at him
• Or how fast his heart was beating, being next to you
• You never noticed
• So now you're at his place, sitting next to him on his dining table, just completing your discussion on the topics you want to focus on, ready to start the first part of your assignment: research
• He reaches across you to grab his textbook
• And he was suuuuuuper close and you could smell the shampoo you two bonded over
• He could've just asked you to pass it to him =~=
• Now you're stuttering your words everytime your eyes lock
• "Um, I'll give you space! to spread out your materials aaand sit opposite" you say rising from your seat
• He was wayyy too close for your poor heart and you couldn't concentrate
• He swiftly slides his hand into yours, holding it tightly
• His hands were really warm, typical of him, he's practically a human furnace
• You look him with a confused facial expression only for him to exchange the same look thats printed on your face
• 'Oh I didn't want to invade your personal space, so I was gonna move'
• He didn't even hear what you said earlier because he thought it was funny how jumpy you were all of a sudden in oppose to how confindent you were in delivering your thoughts on the topic of your discussion
• 'What if I want you to invade my personal space'
• 'Huh?'
• He tugs your arm slightly, notioning you to sit back down
• Your faces inches appart
• 'What if I wanted you to invade my personal space?'
• Uhhhh this wasn't appart of your agenda today
• You both kinda just stare at eachother, not making any movements, but not drawing away either
• Shyness creeping up on both of you
• 'Umm, anyways about the work' you stammer turning the pages in your book, only to look back at him being ten times closer
• 'Can I kiss you?' His voice was low and soft
• Where did all of this confidence come from 💀💀
• A slow nod was all you could give him before he slowly placed a soft peck on your lips
• Before looking back up at you with those eyes that make you just want to melt
• And another
• And another
• And you had to go, grabbing your phone and running out of his house with no hesitstion
• Whatever has gotten into him had your stomach turning in your bed as you debated how on earth you were going to tackle this the next day
• Jisung on the other hand, acted completely on impulse, he did things he didn't think he could ever possibly do, and he has no regret either
• Theres nothing wrong with liking someone, he did nothing but be sincere
Tumblr media
---👾
Thank you so much for reading 💕
I thought it would be interesting to have Jisung be more bold in this one Because I normally see him being written as very shy, but I'm sure he has his moments
Requests are open, literally spam me!!!

Today marks 83 years since the Soviet annexation of Bessarabia from Romania
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SOURCE - Deschide
Today marks 83 years since one of the darkest chapters in the history of the Romanian nation. On 28 June 1940, the USSR issued an ultimatum to the Kingdom of Romania, following the abduction of Bessarabia, northern Bukovina and Herta Land. Under political pressure dictated by the dirty diplomacy of the great global powers and advised by the 'allies' to accept the Soviet government's conditions, Bucharest ceded the requested territories, a total area of 50,762 km2 with a population of about 4 million inhabitants, mostly ethnic Romanians.
On 26 June 1940, the Government of the Kingdom of Romania received a final note from the representatives of the USSR asking it to cede Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina.
In the interest of "restoring the truth"
In that text, Soviet Foreign Minister Veaceslav Molotov argued that Romania had taken advantage of Russia's military weakness and severed the territory of Bessarabia from the Soviet Union in 1918, "thereby violating the centuries-old unity of Bessarabia, populated mainly by Ukrainians, with the Ukrainian Soviet Republic".
"The Soviet Union has never reconciled itself to the fact of taking Bessarabia by force, which the Soviet government declared not once and openly before the whole world. Now that the military weakness of the USSR is a thing of the past, and the international situation that has arisen requires the rapid resolution of the questions inherited from the past in order to finally lay the foundations of a solid peace between countries, the USSR considers it necessary and opportune, in the interest of restoring the truth, to work with Romania for the immediate resolution of the question of the return of Bessarabia to the Soviet Union," the document added.
The Soviet government asked the Kingdom of Romania to return 'at all costs' the territory of Bessarabia to the Soviet Union and to hand over the northern part of Bukovina to the Soviet Union, with the proviso that it expected a reply no later than 27 June.
Manipulation of history
Historical studies have repeatedly noted that the Soviet last note has no support in reality, for several reasons.
First, Bessarabia never had a Ukrainian majority, nor did it have any "secular unity" with Ukraine. On the contrary, ever since the annexation in 1812 by the Russian Empire, the ethnic majority has always been Romanian. The same was true of Bukovina.
Secondly, Bessarabia declared its independence in 1918 from the Russian Federal Republic. The USSR was created in 1922. So Romania could not 'untie' Bessarabia from the USSR for the simple reason that the Soviet Union did not exist.
If anyone should have been compensated, it was the Kingdom of Romania for 107 years of Russian occupation, not the USSR.
Unfortunately, the Kingdom of Romania was at that time internally collapsed, de facto, so it had no one to respond properly to this mocking final note from the USSR.
The notion of "surrender" was avoided
The Kingdom of Romania conveyed to the Soviet government that "immediate negotiations on a wide range of issues" were necessary, a response that did not please the USSR, which demanded Romania's absolute submission and unconditional acceptance, without negotiation, of the conditions imposed.
As a result, on 27 June, Russia issued a second ultimatum, demanding the evacuation of the Romanian administration and army from Bessarabia and northern Bukovina within four days.
The next day, the Romanian government led by Gheorghe Tătărescu, after receiving advice from Germany and Italy, agreed to submit to Soviet conditions.
The decision to accept the Soviet ultimatum and to carry out a 'withdrawal' (the word 'surrender' was avoided) from Bessarabia and northern Bukovina was taken in the Crown Council on the night of 27-28 June 1940.
The diary of King Charles II records that there were 6 votes in favour of rejecting the ultimatum, 20 votes in favour of accepting it and only one abstention.
The King bowed his head to Russian pressure
On the morning of 28 June, the population was officially informed of the existence of the ultimatum and its acceptance by the Romanian Army's General Staff, in communication no. 25.
According to the terms of the ultimatum, three key cities - Chisinau, Chernivtsi and White Fortress - were to be surrendered to the Soviets by 2 p.m.
By 2 July, the new border along the Prut River was permanently closed.
The Romanian government sought to avoid, if only temporarily, a war with the Soviet Union.
As a result, all military installations were surrendered without being destroyed and without a single shot being fired, the Romanian army having strict orders not to respond to any provocation.
More than 200,000 people of all ethnicities fled to Romania in the few days following 28 June.
Tumblr media
Forced ideologisation and deportations
Only a small part of the population of Bessarabia and Bukovina greeted the Soviet annexation with positive feelings.
According to Professor Anton Moraru, PhD in history, the character of the occupation of Bessarabia in 1940 was very clearly and convincingly seen in the policy of the communist regime promoted towards the population of Bessarabia, Northern Bukovina and Herta Land, as archival documents show that the population of these territories rejected the occupation regime.
"The smallest protests were suppressed and suppressed by the Russian NKVD and KGB forces. According to some data, in 1940-1941 alone, the communist occupation regime arrested, ill-treated, fined, sentenced, deported and shot more than 300 thousand people in Bessarabia, Northern Bukovina and Herta Land, including 32 thousand innocent people, who were deported on 12-13 June 1941," Anton Moraru said.
In most of the occupied territory, the Soviets proclaimed the Moldovan SSR, while the southern part of Bessarabia, Bugev, and northern Bukovina were annexed to the Ukrainian SSR.
With the proclamation of the Moldovan SSR, the RASSM, the autonomous "Moldovan" republic east of the Dniester, was divided between the two neighbouring Soviet republics, Soviet Moldova and Ukraine.
The losses suffered in the summer of 1940 affected the geopolitical and strategic role and weight of the Romanian state in the region. But the heaviest blow was a moral one. Only 22 years after the fulfilment of an ideal - a united Romania - Romanians had to resume the struggle for national unity from the beginning.
The annexation of Bessarabia by the Soviets anticipated the establishment of the communist regime in Romania after 1944. Since the ethnic Romanian majority in Bessarabia was made up of peasants, and this class was targeted by the measures of terror, the repression indirectly took on a pronounced anti-Romanian character.

May I ask what you think of Egyptologist Joann Fletcher and her documentaries, which are available on YouTube?
*nervous laughter*
She's good for wigs and hairstyles in Ancient Egypt, as that's what she did her PhD on. Everything else?? Ehh...it's not so good. This is not to say she's not good at what she does, but the documentaries she presents are often full of romanticising notions about various Egyptian artefacts that distort either the object's true purpose or the cultural beliefs of the Egyptians (cf. her Kha and Merit documentary where she waxed lyrical about their rings being meant for marriage and symbols of love, but the Egyptians didn't have a marriage ceremony or the exchanging of rings for this purpose). I've spent too much time yelling at the TV asking her why she's distorting something so simple (i.e. a thing the public can understand without lengthy explanation)
She's also been known, and I know this both first and second hand, to make statements like 'I've even been criticised because I'm a female in my thirties and have a Barnsley accent, but then if you don't conform to the stereotype of a tweed-clad Egyptologist with the appearance of someone aged around 83, your work becomes the target for attack' and oh boy did that piss people off because most Egyptologists don't fit this stereotype. She did also, allegedly, martyr herself as one of the 'only women in Egyptology' and that also pissed people off. Her biggest mistake was announcing that she'd 'found' Queen Nefertiti, without actually consulting with the Egyptian authorities, who didn't find merit in her findings once they did see them, and banned her from working in Egypt for a while. She insists she's right, but the three mummies worked on have been going back and forth in identification for years and she negates to mention this...only the time period where she was right. if we'd found Nefertiti already Nicholas Reeves would have shut up by now Her wiki article is...how do you say...edited favourably by throwaway accounts. One of which is called Stmnmaat or 'quarrels with truth/hostility to truth' and if that's not a give away as to why wiki has a huge warning of 'someone close to this person has been editing this page' at the top idk what is

Alexander Grothendieck on "speculation"
Your idea of writing a "frantically speculative" article on groupoids seems to me a very good one. It is the kind of thing which has traditionally been lacking in mathematics since the very beginnings, I feel, which is one big drawback in comparison to all other sciences, as far as I know. Of course, no creative mathematician can afford not to "speculate", namely to do more or less daring guesswork as an indispensable source of inspiration. The trouble is that, in obedience to a stern tradition, almost nothing of this appears in writing, and preciously little even in oral communication. The point is that the disrepute of "speculation" or "dream" is such, that even as a strictly private (not to say secret!) activity, it has a tendency to vegetate - much like the desire and drive of love and sex, in too repressive an environment. Despite the "repression", in the one or two years before I unexpectedly was led to withdraw from the mathematical milieu and to stop publishing, it was more or less clear to me that, besides going on pushing ahead with foundational work in SGA and EGA, I was going to write a wholly science-fiction kind [of] book on "motives'', which was then the most fascinating and mysterious mathematical being I had come to meet so far. As my interests and my emphasis have somewhat shifted since, I doubt I am ever going to write this book - still less anyone else is going to, presumably. But whatever I am going to write in mathematics, I believe a major part of it will be "speculation" or "fiction", going hand in hand with painstaking, down-to-earth work to get hold of the right kind of notions and structures, to work out comprehensive pictures of still misty landscapes. The notes I am writing up lately are in this spirit, but in this case the landscape isn't so remote really, and the feeling is rather that, as for the specific program I have been out for is concerned, getting everything straight and clear shouldn't mean more than a few years work at most for someone who really feels like doing it, maybe less. But of course surprises are bound to turn up on one's way, and while starting with a few threads in hand, after a while they may have multiplied and become such a bunch that you cannot possibly grasp them all, let alone follow.
—an extract from a letter dated 14/06/83 from Alexander Grothendieck to Ronnie Brown (Bangor)

Just finished Jane Eyre (1973) and I cannot say otherwise than that I absolutely adored it! 2006 must always be my favourite; I first saw it when I was little and it left a lasting impression on me; but this definitely takes second place! I think this adaptation was very successful in compressing some thingsas is almost unavoidable—but never giving the feeling like something is truly missing. The compression in the film adaptations always makes it feel like something is lacking, but here I really did feel all the essentials were there. 1983 has as much, if not more, but the acting in this version elevates it beyond that one. Episode four was just constantly spot on, and their chemistry was so, so good. I love them together. The St John section was very, very decent, and I'm so glad we got Jane teasing Rochester at the end! The one thing missing in this adaptation is perhaps a certain moody atmosphere, but it has so much to make up for that and I'll take good acting over good cinematography any day!
I'm sorry it took me so long to answer this ask, but in the interim since I got it: i) an assignment I had for the end of October was moved to last friday and I had to rush it ii) the washer broke down iii) the water purifier broke down iii) the dishwasher broke down. So I have been running after things and being too tired at night to answer asks.
I'm so glad you liked it! It truly is a hidden gem. While I think the St John part is better in 83, this Rochester brings so much more to the rest. I think Michael Jayston commits to the notion that yes, Rochester loves Jane and really truly means to make her happy and is ALSO being very stupid about it and hurting her deeply in the process too. It's very clear (and poignant) in that bit at the wedding where he grabs Jane's hand and holds it over his heart, like he fears something will happen and she will be taken away from him. The very gesture shows both, how much she means to him, but also the fear and guilt that are plaguing him because he knows he's doing something he shouldn't.
I get what you mean about the moody atmosphere. It IS a big deal, but ultimately we have so many adaptations now, that time has made it less of an issue for me. If we only had, say, 73 and 83, I'd be begging for some Gothic atmosphere. As is, having 97, 06 and 11, I'm like "we can have a happy go lucky Jane Eyre. As a treat."

When Sir Vivian Richards took over the captaincy from Sir Clive Lloyd, there was a notion that the power-hitting style as the smoking Joe Frasier may fade due to the responsibility factor. Sir Geoffrey Boycott endorsed this thought when the Test series between West Indies and England commenced.
Richards did have his hours in the series, but somewhere, that master blaster was missing and Boycott's statement was proving right until the King came out to bat at Antigua. There was carnage as the King smashed 50 off 35 deliveries and the next 60 runs came off from just 23;
Viv was severe on his Somerset teammate Ian Botham who ended up leaking 78 from 15 overs. While the lanky English spinner John Emburey leaked 83 from 14. Before that he leaked 14 runs from 9 overs!
Richards had only two options on that afternoon - a boundary or a six. "In a sense, I did everything to get out, but luckily for me, everything went off the middle of the bat. The crowd was jumping & the car horns were blowing all round the island,"said the King.
Richards managed a strike rate of 189.65 from 58 deliveries and the West Indies completed another whitewash.

Wen Ning nodded, “I know he must have gotten sick. He doesn’t remember much of his early childhood. I’ve had a long chat with him and he’s only ever talked about you.” He continued with mild disappointment, “Back in the days, he’d always talk about Young Master Wei…… Either way, he never talks about me.”
–Chapt. 89: “Core” Part 11, boat-full-of-lotus-pods
But he does remember you, Wen Ning! He does!
He could also feel that Wen Ning was becoming emotional, so much so that it was making him stutter. And it was a contagious realization. Lan SiZhui felt himself becoming emotional too, as if he was on the verge of uncovering a great secret...
...For reasons he could not fathom, seeing the “Ghoul General” like this made Lan SiZhui’s heart sore with nostalgia. He was also possessed with the strange notion that he recognized this face and this expression in front of him from somewhere else. A name was forming on the tip of his tongue, barred and struggling behind an invisible barrier. Like a leak on a dam, it felt as if the moment he break through that barrier and remember that name, everything else would rush out along with it, and then everything would become clear.

“In his [recorded sayings], Huangbo Xiyun unequivocally states: “Speaking is silence; silence is speaking; speaking and silence are nondualistic.”
Another Chan master, Dazhu Huihai, construes Vimalakirti’s silence as being beyond speaking and non-speaking, a silence of the duality between silence and speech – a strategy very similar to Madhyamaka’s emptiness of emptiness and Zhuangzi’s nothingness of nothingness.
In saying this, Chan masters demonstrate that they apply the principle of pratityasamutpada (interdependent arising) to the issue of speech and silence, presenting a non-isolated, truly relational understanding of speech and silence. Speech and silence thus no longer have their self-identity. One always functions in relation to the other, and each always has its absent presence in the other. Each always retains traces of the other.
Sengzhao’s saying, “Speech always has something unspoken,” might be a good footnote to the Chan notion of the speech-silence relation. Chan masters might add one more point to Sengzhao’s saying: silence always speaks.”

truly, i despise what they did to ellie past hellblazer #83 and i despise the way they wrote constantine treating her, so we are rewriting that shit at top speed.
first of all, there was no trickery or manipulation involved in her sleeping with constantine. girlie is too smart for all that and john respects her enough not to do that shit. they made a deal, she re-demonizes his blood in exchange for him setting up a secure place for her to hide from the first of the fallen on earth, they had sex, they went on their merry ways.
^ this also means there was no reason for her to ruin his relationship with dani, but i like the notion that pomeroy found ellie's hiding spot, she thought john betrayed her, and working with pomeroy + setting john up to look bad with dani was her intended revenge. (only for it to completely backfire, because she didn't know john could negate the sigil hiding her from hell at any time. which was still a cold fucking move on his part, mind.) so it was a misunderstanding, but they were still pissed at each other over it.
she still got caught and trapped back in hell by the first of the fallen, but she managed to convince triskele of her loyalty when she chose to tell them of nergal's plans (hellblazer #210) so the first could crash the party and fuck constantine over — mind you, she didn't know that was his intention when she did this — and as a reward, she was allowed to go back to earth again as an agent of hell. (albeit under intense scrutiny.)
these days she's kind of an information broker alongside her regular succubus duties, gathering damning secrets and passing them around the occult community to whoever can offer her the best price. secretly, she's plotting to break the leash hell's got her on and escape again, but as far as she knows, constantine is the only one willing to risk pissing off the first of the fallen by hiding her (again) and they're still not speaking. so she's workshopping options and biding her time.

Does Gregory ever become "un-posessed" by Evan?
No. They co-exist just fine, and neither of them see a need to end this arrangement. But you have just unlocked the next Renegade AU Lore dump.
Renegade AU Lore Dump: Ghosts and Possession.
In the Renegade AU there are two types of ghosts: Electrical and Remnant.
Electrical ghosts are the normal ghost; the last electrical impulses of a persons nervous system that... sticks around somehow.
Remnant is... debatable. It's liquid ghost, but can be extracted from living hosts. The running theory is that it is emotion, but put into a liquid form. It's more of a small fraction of electrical ghost bound to a liquid, with the liquid usually being blood or metal as these are the most stable containment mediums. Other mediums can be used, but that runs the risk of the remnant becoming a biohazard. The existence of ghosts is secular in nature.
In fact, a disgraced former samurai only created his 'domain' because his wife, a wild west cowgirl, was sad that all organised religion (including the one she was a part of) was just incorrect; there was no gods or anything. So the disgraced samurai took the mask of an alligator and promised her that he would ensure those who were truly evil were punished in death, creating OMC.
Most research into ghosts is modern and spearheaded by Dr May Marion Schmidt. Most of her research was started after November 1987, when her brother strangely 'recovered' from neck injuries he'd sustained a month prior. (Mike didn't just spontaneously recover as the initial hypothesis was, Federico - a ghost - just begun to manage the symptoms and internal problems so Mike could ACTUALY recover but not have it absolutely suck in the process).
Someone injected with remnant will have Apparitions (Defined as a hallucination caused by a ghost or ghost related things) of the person or persons that the remnant came from. If the ghosts are nearby, the injected individual can see the ghosts and will still see them in the state that they were in when the remnant sample was taken, even if their appearance has changed since the (re: Gregory seeing Evan as a child despite Evan having survived the bite of 83 and becoming a solider).
It is easier for a ghost to possess someone injected with their remnant, and the person will only feel a portion of the pain of the ghosts death, making it harder to notice.
The specific act of possession is purely the ghosts choice. Unless external factors like another ghost, electric shocks, or possession resistance is at play, an ghost can possess anyone. This takes a lot of effort on the ghosts end, which is why William can't just possess anybody so easily.
Sometimes, a ghost can get bound to the thing they possess and cannot un-possess their host (such are the notable cases of Dunn and 'Miss', as well as Krasnyy and Philip, amongst others). It is theorised that a ghost possessing someone and that possession ensuring the hosts survival in an incident (anything that could have caused the hosts death without the ghost giving them an 'immunity') causes the ghost and host to be unable to separate. 'Immunity' is hardly a technical term and seems an almost foolish notion, but ghosts will always give their host an immunity of some kinds. Blood loss, asphyxiation, organ damage, falls, crushing, fire, and poisoning are the most common ones, but more niche cases have been reported. Newly possessed hosts will only receive one immunity, but as a ghost and host grow more acclimated to one another, a related immunity may arise as the ghost grows more skilled in preventing death by the immune cause (On the surface it looks like a person is immune to blood loss, in reality there's a ghost working overtime to micro-manage their hosts blood to make sure they don't die).
Hosts also sometimes gain a related ability from the ghost (again, it's the ghost doing stuff). Notable cases are Krasnyy's energy drain that he gets from Philip, PT's pyromancy that she gets from Blake, and and Gregory's event simulation that he gets from Evan.
Normally, most ghosts will not take over the hosts body unless the host asks them to, or the situation requires their specific expertise to survive. Some ghost/host duos seamlessly switch between who is in control to navigate dangerous situations. (notable cases being Krasnyy and Philip)
However, some ghosts (such as William, Adelaide, and Christie) who will take over a host and refuse to give the host control back, meaning that it has to be took back by force. Willpower means basically nothing, and means such as forcing the host to sustain injuries, delivering an electric shock, 'the flash-bang trick', or having another ghost try and take over are the main means of thwarting unwanted possession.
Multiple ghosts may exist in one body at a time (Carl Burke and 'Miss' are experts in this) but it requires immense amounts of co-operation from both the host and all ghosts, so a host and ghost can combine forces to force out an unwanted ghost from possessing the host. This could also be used for a host and ghost to trap another ghost within themselves to keep it from escaping.

THE ACTOR'S ACTOR
Michael Shannon is still trying to figure out a few things. Minor issues, like, what the hell is America about? And why do our vocations not contain the keys to a simple life? Shannon has recently added a directing credit to his extraordinary acting C.V., but in most other respects he’s just one of us.

Hollywood actor Michael Shannon is photographed for the Issue 83’s cover of The Rake magazine. Michael wears Brioni, Dunhill and Audemars Piguet.
Speaking to The Rake in early July, from his home in New York, Michael Shannon is — emotionally, at least — on both sides of the Atlantic. “I’m a massive tennis fan, and I’ve just been watching [Novak] Djokovic dismantle your fellow Brit [Cameron] Norrie,” he says.“Before that we were watching the Nadal and [Taylor] Fritz match. Oh, Rafael was in pain, but he still won.” All of which might sound like small talk, but Shannon has brought up tennis for reasons related to a vocation that has earned him Academy Award (2016’s Nocturnal Animals, 2008’s Revolutionary Road), Golden Globe (2014’s 99 Homes) and Tony Award (2016’s Broadway revival of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night) nominations.
Acting, he says, involves getting into something resembling a meditative state. “You have to be able to still your mind, for sure,”he says.“You can’t be thinking about a bunch of other stuff. When I’m doing a scene, I have a couple of ground rules. Like, I never bring my phone to set, ever. I’m not judging anyone who does, but for me the thing you’re trying to do is so enormous and multifaceted that for me it has to be the only thing you’re thinking about. So I try to have no distractions at all. A lot of the time [on set] I don’t really say much, and people can misconstrue that as, ‘Oh, he’s, he’s “method”’. But I’m defiantly anti-method. I think the notion of trying to walk around all the time convincing yourself [of something] feels psychotic.
He’s also been busy — exceptionally so — with an eclectic list of yet-to-be-screened projects, all of which suggest that his knack for making the right creative choices as he hits 48 years on the planet remains as sharp as ever. The most prominent include David O. Russell’s 1930s-set mystery-comedy Amsterdam (alongside Margot Robbie, Christian Bale, Anya Taylor-Joy and Robert De Niro) and Bullet Train, an action thriller directed by David Leitch and released this summer, in which Shannon joins Brad Pitt, among others, as assassins on the eponymous high-speed train deciphering the connection between their various missions.
Shannon plays White Death, and viewers expecting his character to pack the most menace won’t be disappointed. “Bullet Train is filled with a lot of really scary assassin-type people, but they’re all scared of White Death,” he says. “I guess he’s the super-assassin. The high priest of death. And he’s the boss of this international cartel that deals in very shady things. He’s the one that’s supposed to make everybody shake in their boots, I guess.”
