I keep seeing posts saying that the sylki kiss from 1x06 was retconned. Obviously I don't know for 100% certainty, the writers/show producers would have to confirm if anything was retconned or not for us to be certain. But I don't think anything was retconned. It is a bit confusing with all the time skipping etc, you've also got the fact that when Loki went back and spoke to OB in the past it changed things in the future. But when he went back in 2x06 to speak to Mobius and then Sylvie after those timelines dissolved away, so what's the difference? Well here's how I see it, and I am going to try my best to explain it using a metaphor and hope it makes sense. So Loki at the end transforms all the timelines into a tree, so lets run with that imagery and look at time like its a tree. You've got all your branches, that's the different timelines, then you've got your leaves on that branch which represents different moments in time. These moments/leaves exsist on multiple branches. Here is a diagram for you, I apologise for the crudeness, I was only able to put on coat of paint and it is not to scale:

I think we see Loki travel two different ways on this time tree I think when he goes back and speaks to OB he is jumping between different points on the same branch like this:

When he jumps back to speak to OB it kind of rearranges slightly the branch from that point forward, so now future OB remembers the conversation but everything else stays the same.

HWR says the way the loom works is that it deletes anything that isn't supposed to be there and just keeps the sacred timeline aka the events that HWR wants to happen. We know that the events of season 1 and 2 were what HWR wanted to happen, he says he paved the way, which is why I think after speaking to past Mobius in 2x06 the timeline dissolves. I think the way Loki is time-slipping in this episode where he is trying to find the right actions that will solve the problem and save the day is more like he is skipping between branches as opposed to the same branch, like this:

Only when he skips out of that the branch falls off and dies like after he spoke to Mobius and Sylvie.

When it comes to him repeating the same moment I see as him kind of bouncing from say his branch to that same moment on a different branch:

When it fails he slips back to that same moment and tries again. And its the same with the citadel. I suppose it would look more like this:

With that moment as a sort of fixed moment.

Actually another way of looking at it (and probably a simpler way if I am honest) is like every time Loki skips back after a failed attempt he's hitting the return to factory settings button, when you do that on a computer it erases everything you have added, everything you have done. In this case the factory settings are season 1 and season 2 up to 2x4.

So the sylki kiss and citadel moment weren't retconned or erased, neither was that first interview with Mobius in 1x01 because when Loki slipped back to the loom room for the last time he had hit the reset button. So the events of season 1 and 2 up to ep 4 stay, they are the in universe canon you could say. So the Sylvie we see talking to Mobius at the end is the same Sylvie who kissed Loki in 1x06, and went through all of season 1 and 2.

So what parts were retconned/ erased. Anything between the end of 2x4 and the end of 2x6. So sadly we have lost the bar scene from ep 5, we get to keep the kiss and the pie room scene though. The other scenes that got erased in this episode is Loki's conversation with Mobius where he asks how to choose who lives and dies. Also the conversation with Sylvie where he tells her he might have to kill her to stop her killing HWR is gone too. Though to note Loki still remembers it all.

Anyway that's my take on it, I hope it makes sense.

B-15's Backstory: Incoherent Thoughts

Because I'm still not over this, and not likely to be over this any time soon. I've been sending my friend near constant stream-of-consciousness texts about this all day. Now you get to deal with it. Headcanons, theories, reactions, etc. Spoilers for Loki episode 2x05 and probably Loki: Agent of Asgard.

I'm literally just typing up my texts about B-15/Verity, so they really are incoherent/stream-of-consciousness. I'm not kidding when I say I've been thinking about her all day. I'm aware this is almost certainly just an easter egg, but my brain does not work that way when I get a hint of something I love.

She found him before Mobius did. She's been with him all along!!!

Besides Sylvie he loses her last in episode five. ;.; She finds him first in 1x01, and she's the last agent he loses in 2x05.

If Tom Hiddleston does not say "Verity" at some point in episode six I won't know what to do with myself. Then again if he does, I'm going to have to pause the episode to cry for twenty minutes.

I wrote this TWO WEEKS AGO. A part of me knew.

I complained about Loki not being on my birthday month for my calendar but IT'S VERITY I'M OKAY WITH IT. [The thing draped over her is a palm from Palm Sunday. It's the only place in my apartment it's able to hang.]

Oh my god if B-15 is not outright confirmed to be able to detect lies in the next episode I'm gonna ignore everything the writers try to tell me and I'm going to do a whole rewatch explicitly to catalog all of her interactions and assess if I can conclude that she has this power in the MCU. She already only needed Sylvie to tell her to her face that Sylvie didn't create C-20's memories and she believed her.

Personally I want that scene from the mid-season trailer where Loki's like "I'm a fast learner" and everyone else just takes him at his word, but then I want B-15 to be like '...This boi's acting sus.' And everyone else gets to work, and she pulls him aside and is like, "What are you up to?" And he's like, "Nothing." And she's like, "I know you're lying." Basically if someone (Loki) says something in the episode that I know as a viewer is a lie and they do a fairly decent job of acting convincing (none of this over-the-top terrible lying bullshit to really drive home to the audience that they're lying), and B-15 says the words "I know you're lying," I'm sold. I won't rewatch everything to figure it out. I'll be convinced she can detect lies.

No but Sylvie and B-15 becoming ride or die bffs, no romance, like Loki and Verity are in the comics would give me LIFE.

I've come up with another way they can imply B-15 can detect lies next episode. If at some point Loki just starts telling his friends about their lives on the timeline instead of doing the memory magic, and he turns to OB and goes, "You... are a brilliant writer." And B-15 is in the frame, and she doesn't say anything, either in that moment or as an aside to Loki, but she just twitches a little at the lie. I'll lose my fucking mind. If that and the one season one interaction with Sylvie is all we get as implicative confirmation, I'll fucking take it. My girl can detect lies. Sold. Done.

[Not really a headcanon or anything, but just to show you I'm a fool irl too] Also I came in, [my dad] said, "Hi, what's up?" And I said, "B-15 is Verity Willis." And then I grinned like a lunatic even though he has no clue who Verity is and I know he has no clue who Verity is.

We currently do not have any evidence that B-15 is not ace, so Verity is still 100% ace in the MCU, too.

The president story isn't really working for me just yet but one of his bodyguards was in the episode of OB I watched earlier, him beating up Donnie. So to see him be a nice guy immediately after was a funny coincidence. Also, Jake and Devon were very cute.

Music of Blindspot - 2x09/2x10 "I'm tired" Edition

I'm tired. Life is a bit much these past couple of weeks - I do still intend to do the normal music posts for myself at some point as well as catch up my reblogs, but I'm not sure when and I wanted to get these few observations written down for now. :D Cut for spoilers and as always... I'm not the composers, record label or anything else. I own nothing.

2x09 is mostly new music.

Most interesting obs: During the Afghanistan reveal sequence, what appears (sounds?) to be the same vocals that are used throughout the series are woven in here and there (different melodies, but I'm assuming based on overall similarity). I believe I read that those vocals were co-composer Sherri Chung (though I haven't verified it nor am I sure these vocals are the same person). Whoever it was that sang them, though, composer Blake Neely has said that the original echoey vocals were meant to be an auditory representation of the "real" Jane trying to break through. You can hear them extremely prominently when she first reaches out of the bag in 1x01.

BUT the vocals in the Afghanistan montage are *not* echoed or distorted, beginning with the moment a feverish Remi pleads with Chris and Nigel to let her leave, to protect them. They remain clear throughout the time she's with them... *until* the village is bombed. As she tells Nigel later that night that her government has lost its mind, the distorted musical "voice of the real Remi/Jane" returns.

The music that section is set against is a mix of "Torn Apart", which doesn't normally have the vocals in it, but is used frequently where Jane is conflicted between her family (especially Roman) and the law. There's a tiny tiny snatch of another piece from S1 at the end of that scene as she asks Nigel to stand up - I want to say "Learn to Trust" or maybe "Trying to Protect You", but off the top of my head I'm not sure.

I note all this because I found it really interesting that musically speaking, when she's away from her family's influence and showing the best of herself - trying to protect strangers even as she's nearly dying herself, and having just watched her own team blown up - the music would seem to suggest we're looking at "the real her". But after watching the village and all those innocents blown up the same way her "unsanctioned black-ops" team was, we hear the same distorted echo of "her voice" that first appeared - and stays - with post-ZIP Jane.

Of course add to this the usual caveat that I'm not an expert, not a music critic, not a composer or anything. These are just the observations of a soundtrack geek who also happens to be obsessed with this show. Whether or not it was narrative intent and not just my inference? Who knows.

2x10 (I'm halfway through it as I type this) surprisingly seems to be more heavily laden with season 1 music than any episode this season so far.

hey, nonnie!! same deal as before, ok? top 5 character moments + top 5 giffing moments under the cut :)

character moments:

the whole scene from 1x01/2x01 with the medieval speech that culminates in him shooting dean. the shot of him laughing while beth aims a gun at him is unmatched, to start with. the medieval line is iconic. and then i have to appreciate the fact that he shoots dean!! the only bad thing in that scene is that dean, unfortunately, ends up surviving afterward. i think we all know i'm a soft!rio gal, but sometimes i enjoy slightly unhinged, badass crime boss rio too, as a treat! lol

the scene of him reuniting with rhea and marcus in 3x02!! soft!rio, man!! i love the shot of him smiling at rhea. i wish they'd delved deeper into his dynamic with rhea instead of giving us only one scene of them together, but i think we can infer a lot from what we got?? or at least, i sure did!! namely that obviously they're bffs who co-parent and before beth came along they weren't against falling back into bed together on particularly lonely nights. and, obviously, i love the model airplane!! the fact that he was building it while in that hotel room, that he was doing something for marcus, it just kills me a little bit.

the scene in 3x06 where he and beth are sitting on the picnic table facing opposite ways and she tells him she can't print anymore. i love that he gives her a little space to be upset. i think it shows that he's not heartless, that he's not "ruining her life" for shits and giggles. he did what he had to do to get his point across while not crossing a line he can't uncross with her imo and he takes no pleasure in knowing that lucy is dead. i think he probably thought he'd be happy with beth's reaction, though. but, instead, it's just another thing they've done to each other, another thing on a really huge pile of horrible things. and he's just tired. and maybe seeing her suffer isn't all that satisfying. so he sits there and lets her cry and he agrees with her, that lucy didn't deserve it, that she was a nice girl. and then i love that they flip the coin. that we get to see him be the one who's hurt and pissed off, too. she shot him! on the pile of horrible things, that's def the biggest and most horrible one. she shot and left him to die!! he gets to be angry about that. i love that he gets to be angry about that, even if only for a second. i wish we'd gotten to a point on the show where they had like a full-out screaming match, where beth saw the damage she'd done and apologized. i wish the showrunners hadn't decided that he's "healed enough to not have scars anymore" because that's just the most laughable thing ever. i love this little pocket of honesty between them and i wish we got more.

that scene at the ob-gyn in 3x03. i love that he's a petty asshole the whole time. like, be honest, you would be too if a woman paid you after having sex with you and kicked you out and then shot you and had the balls to tell you she's pregnant with your baby. lmao, this show really is a telenovela at this point. most importantly, i love the shot when the doctor says she's pregnant and there's all this emotion on his face. becaus he didn't believe her before that moment. and now he's faced with the possibility that he's going to have a baby with beth, that he's going to have another kid, that he's going to be tied with her forever. it's so good!

last, but not least, the scene in 2x07 where he tells beth she's a drug dealer. honestly, beth pretending that she's just a "mom with a side hustle" like crime is anything like selling herbal teas or make-up on the side is kind of getting ridiculous at that point and has only gotten more so as the show goes on. and i mean if it was getting annoying for me, i can't imagine how the guy actually having to hear that on the regular felt lol. i love that rio called her out. very fun for me!! seriously, i love beth, but i really wish she could like get some accountability. anyways, what i love most about this scene is actually not included in this scene. it's the fact that he tells her "who cares?" and then goes to look for jane. and when he doesn't find jane, instead of leaving the blanket there, he gets the dubby for beth. "who cares?", you ask? you! you care! god, i love him so much!! soft boi!rio is everything i want in a fictional male character lmao

I loved:

This episode struck me at first as a strange choice to open Season 4, but really it’s brilliant. It takes us right back to the beginning, giving us those little reminders of Season 1 while giving us so much material to chew on. Beth is no longer just the Plot-Triggering Death; she’s a fully-fleshed out character and Sestra. 

MK. I love that each new clone is so drastically different than the others, and each one serves a purpose and fits some niche you didn't know needed filling before. The exception, of course, is poor Tony, whom the writers dropped.

The return of Janis, the hilarious forensics specialist. I'd watch a spin off with her in a heartbeat. Also, look how close Beth and Art are to holding hands back there.

I loved getting to know Beth. By the end of the episode, I was somehow hoping that, this time, maybe she wouldn't kill herself.

I loved Beth telling MK that she has “a nice face.”

Beth’s funny. “I'm looking to get my breasts modified into, like, corkscrews.”

I liked:

The sheep mask. 

The uncertainty of the first scene with Beth in her bed, especially when Paul popped up behind her.

Bringing back all the dead people from season one. Not just Beth and Paul, but Astrid (not dead, actually), Olivier, Leekie.

Ramon delivering flowers to Beth, à la episode 2x01. I think he’s met every member of the Sestrahood except Helena.

“One of my subjects seems to have exhumed one of yours.”

I didn't like:

Just in case we didn't know the two “paramedics” were bad news, they make out after dumping a body. Because nasty people make out, right, guys?

Paul didn't need to say “Beth” when he sat up. It's treating the audience like we're dumb. His presence alone was enough to clue us in that it was a flashback.

Why is Dylan Bruce in the opening credits? He’s finished as a regular, and other actors (like Evelyne) didn’t get opening credits treatment when they returned for individual episodes. It really bothers me because I believe there’s money in being in the opening credits than being a “special guest.”

Beth sleeping with Art. It was just unnecessary and didn’t contribute to anything. Not to mention, doesn't Art have some kind of authority over Beth? Like, she's his rookie and the lieutenant tells Art to keep her in line? It’s shoddy retconning. 

Other notes:

When Cosima calls Beth, the sun is shining in both places, and Beth got that call middle of the night, suggesting it was early morning when she and Arthur were there. Meaning, it's VERY early morning in California.

Felix referring to the processing cop as “constable” makes me think that his entire British identity is assumed, intentionally. Also, I think that Jordan G. has had lines in every single episode up until the middle of the 5th season.

I was also happy to see Cosima and Alison appear in this one, and I thought the same as for Felix: “Oh, this must just fulfill that actress' contractual obligation to appear in every episode. Wait.”

Beth says “you can meet us in person.” Not me. Us.

Beth is so much like Cosima that I'm sad I never got to see them hang out.

No one in Club Neolution seems to be enjoying themselves except the dresser and Beth Childs. Also, Trina was totally flirting with Beth with that finger magnet shit.

No wonder Sarah passed so successfully as Beth. Beth was twitchy as shit already.

The whole “Beth's a cold fish” thing turned out to be bullshit. No surprise there.

What kind of asshole is Paul that he doesn't even turn to look at Beth when she asks him to?

Paul's response to Beth striping from him is in direct contrast to Sarah doing so in 1x01, even though he thought Sarah was Beth then.

“God, no wonder you live like this.” Tactless, but honest and so, so real. Also a good indicator of the theme of this season.

It seems weird to me that Kira sleeps in the same bed as Sarah. I know it's cultural, and in this case compensating for months of distance, but it's weird to me.

I have questions:

This might be a really dumb question, but why did Beth snort that pill instead of just swallowing it? Does it just enter the bloodstream a lot faster that way?

Was that conversation about tuition payments and things Beth isn't telling them the last conversation Cosima and Beth ever had?

Did Beth just steal Leekie's book from Club Neolution? And no one stopped her?

I'm a little curious why Alison got Gemma's pee and not Oscar's. I mean, as a female who's peed in cups before, I'm assuming that boys would be less messy about it, and Gemma’s young enough at this point that her mom might need to help her with it. 

In Season 1, Paul said that he was “there” when Beth found out she couldn't have kids. Does that mean that Beth tried to have children with him, and he was a willing participant in this attempted reproduction? That seems like one of the world's worst ideas, unless he was WAY more into that relationship earlier on.

I would've liked to have seen:

Beth contacting and connecting with Cosima. I know I wrote about it, but I wanted to see it.

Alternative universe in which Beth lives, and gets to see the happiness at the end of the bullshit tunnel.
