Asahi pushes the window up as silently as possible, eyes never leaving the bed. His beloved is fast asleep. Such a heavy sleeper they are, could sleep right through a hurricane. He puts one foot on the worn carpet, then eases into their apartment. He checks his pants pockets, feeling the little bottle Valentine had given him. It makes him remember what they'd said: "Asahi, go get them. The other night they were out, looking for someone to share a bed with. We need to make them ours, now before someone else tries to take them from us." He considers himself lucky, having a partner who understood. No one else would understand him the way Valentine does.

Asahi creeps to their bed, taking in their features and the steady rise and fall of their chest as they breathe. Gods, he loves them. He would give anything for them. He'd die for them, he's killed for them. By now he's memorized their routine; they'd come home from work, brush their teeth and change, sleep then wake up briefly at 1-2 am to use the bathroom and drink some water. They'd always fill their water bottle and leave it on their night stand. Asahi takes out the bottle he'd brought and quietly unscrews their water bottle's top. He dumps the contents of his little glass bottle in and screws the top back on. He slinks away, carefully hiding himself away in their closet. Then, he waits.

He stares holes into their sleeping form. Sitting for a couple of hours, his thoughts are consumed with them. Finally, they wake for their midnight pee. They get up and wander to their bathroom with groggy yawns and sluggish feet. They don't notice the open window. They don't even bother closing the door in their drowsy haze. When they come back they take a big drink from their water bottle, then go back to sleep.

Asahi smiles as he approaches their bed again. They should stay asleep for a long, long time with that. He carefully pulls their blankets off of them and picks them up. The ravenette cradles them close, pressing a sweet kiss to their temple. "Don't worry, sweetheart. We'll be home soon, then you'll finally get to meet Val~" He whispers into their hair and he goes to leave through the window.

notes about the meanings of everyone's poses are under the cut!

akio: akio doesn't have an umbrella, he just has his hood on and he has this angry look on his face. back in season 1, akio just wanted to be voted innocent and truly believed he deserved to be forgiven and even though being voted guilty made him change as a person, he still doesn't care about the "moral side" of his verdicts, since now he just wants to be forgiven because being punished again can literally cost him his life. he still doesn't want to do anything with the guards or the verdict system, so he doesn't have an umbrella, but he still doesn't want to die, so at least he has his head covered.

shun: shun was very happy when the guards voted him innocent, since he believed his crime wasn't a crime at all and his thoughts were affirmed. however, he got "betrayed" by the guards since they decided to vote him guilty in season 2. this is why he has his umbrella lying on the ground: he really believed that the guards will still be on his side, but he was wrong.

kei: kei is holding his umbrella. he is accepting his verdicts. even though he was voted guilty by his own brother and brutally punished by him as well, he loves him too much to get mad at him. it also looks like he's offering his umbrella to shun which might look cute OR look like a reminder of how unhealthy their relationship is (kei was more than happy to flirt with shun back in season 1 and shun just acted shy and claimed to be taken, but in season 2, shun gladly joined eiko when she started to basically bully kei and shun got a new outfit to look more like kei) but also.. kei is winking here. the eye that he has closed here is the same eye that shun lost because of kei. think about the implications <3

asahi: he has his umbrella closed, but he's still holding it. asahi doesn't like eiji and he sure will not like hinode, but he likes miki. she's the only guard that he cares about, but he cares about her A LOT. so you can interpret his pose as him still being suspicious of the other guards, but wanting to be as close with miki as possible.

riku: my boy doesn't have an umbrella AND he doesn't have his hood on. sure, riku wants to be forgiven, but also.. he understands that even an innocent verdict won't make his pain go away. in fact, he will most likely just hurt himself even more to keep making the guards feel sorry for him and continue forgiving him. a little spoiler for his trial 3 vd, but there's a moment when he says that there is no verdict that will help him or make his situation better. so his head is not covered, he doesn't have an umbrella with him and he's also holding his hand out to feel the raindrops. riku kuroki why are you like this

aimi: her pose is similar to asahi's and the meaning is similar as well: she only cares about miki. however, i tried to make her pose look a bit more desperate, like she's even more dependent on her than miki's own brother. aimi doesn't care about her verdict. she only cares about finally having a friend.

naomi: naomi has claimed multiple times that she doesn't care about her verdict and she doesn't care about the other prisoners' verdicts as well (not counting asahi. the fuck them kids mindset is still there) so she doesn't have an umbrella with her and it also looks like she's taking her hood off. however, i like to think as this naomi in particular as t2 naomi: getting an innocent verdict and starting to become more confident. confident enough to feel like you don't have to protect yourself anymore. she still got a guilty verdict though so maybe an umbrella wouldn't hurt.

eiko: oh this girl is so happy about her umbrella! look at the way she's holding it! this totally doesn't have anything to do with her obsession with eiji at all! eiko really doesn't care about the verdicts, but she loves her poor little meow meow too much, so she still cares about milgram in some way. there's also her brother being the fourth guard that never got an opportunity to actually do his job and the possibility of her parents having something to do with it.. her pose is also kinda similar to kei's pose which is a nice bonus since they're a pair.

yurika: THE GIRL IS NOT HAPPY ABOUT HER TWO GUILTY VERDICTS. she's the only prisoner that's sitting on the ground. she doesn't have an umbrella with her, showing that she HATES the guards and she HATES her verdicts (and how verdicts work in general), but she still has her hood on. the girl doesn't want to die. she REALLY doesn't want to die. (and her t3 vd will show it well </3)

reina: reina doesn't have an umbrella with her, which was to be expected from miss "i'm actually a serial killer hehe >:D please vote me guilty please please guys i'm begging i would rather die than live with the knowledge of what i've done". she doesn't care about the guards' opinions anymore. she does have her hood on, but in her case it's not related to her life, i simply thought it would fit her vibe well, since she's a person who finds it hard to be honest with others and is very secretive.

Asahi sets the plastic basket-trays down on the table. "I'm glad you could come with us, Christian," Valentine says, gently grabbing a red tray and sliding it closer to themself. "I'm glad I can be here! I've never been to a fair before!" The shorter boy beams, still looking around excitably. Valentine opens their mouth, then abruptly freezes when their eyes catch sight of just how much food Asahi got. "Dear lord, Asahi, we're not going to eat all of this!"

"You won't, I will," He smiles as he speaks, then he catches Christian out of the corner of his eye. He throws his arm around him and pulls him closer, "We'll eat all of it, won't we Chris?"

Before he can answer, Asahi offers him a paper bag with a bunch of churros in it, "You ever had a churro, Chris?" He shakes his head as he gently plucks one from the bag. Val shakes their head and sighs, then pushes the little chocolate sauce cup up to him, "Dip it in the chocolate, it's perfect."

"Val, have you seen deep fried cheesecake here before?"

"No, has to be new this year. Is that what that is?" They point to a clearly deep fried thing covered with powdered sugar and chocolate sauce. "Yeah, looks like a mess don't it?" He laughs as he stabs his fork into it. "Christian, when you're done with the churro you should try a fried pickle, it's great," Val pushes their little basket over to him. "No, don't, they're fuckin' gross."

"Asahi, they are not. You just don't like pickles."

"Yeah, 'cause they're fuckin' disgusting."

"The food here is very messy," Christian remarks, plucking up a napkin to wipe his fingers with. Asahi laughs heartily, "Yeah, they're supposed to be! Where's the fun in eatin' 'fine dining' when you're walking around in the swelterin' heat and playin' carnival games?"

"How was your churro, love?" Val asks with a little chuckle. "Oh, it was very good! Could I have another?" He asks bashfully. "Man, you don't even have to ask! Here," Asahi sets the whole bag in front of him with a big smile.

"Before we leave we should get some shaved ice. I saw a stall for it at the front."

"Darling, I think you're the only one who'll even have room for it."

Asahi scoots closer to the short boy next to him, tearing off a piece of a pizza pretzel. "Chris, close your eyes," he says. The ravenette looks up at him curiously, then follows the instruction. "Open your mouth," Asahi takes his chin between his fingers as he does so and drops the pretzel piece into his mouth. "Try that," he laughs a little. Christian chews carefully before opening his eyes, "What was that?"

"This, pizza pretzel. They don't always sell 'em so it's a treat when they do! Here," he slides the tray over to him and goes back to his cheesecake. "Try some waffle fries, too," Val takes the basket from in front of their partner. "Loaded waffle fries," Asahi says with a playful smirk.

"Loaded waffle fries, yes," Val mutters something like 'little brat' under their breath before shaking their head again.

Christian giggles at the banter and takes a fry from the container. "He's going to be so spoiled from today," Val jokes. "He's already spoiled, babe, we're just makin' it worse," the other man says with a laugh. He then stretches and looks around, spotting a strength tester close to the Ferris wheel. "You think I can get a prize for doin' the strength test?" Asahi asks. "If you win," Val answers, following his line of sight. Christian looks over, too, then spots a bunch of stuffed animals on a stall close to it. "You got any requests, Chris?"

"H-huh?"

"Stuffed animals! Is there one you want?"

"Asahi, I doubt he can see any clearly from here," Val interrupts. "It's okay! You don't need to get me one!" He tries to reason with Asahi, but he's already up and walking across the grass. Val sighs, "So stubborn."

They look to Christian, "sorry about him, love. Are you having fun?"

He snaps back to them and nods, "Of course I'm having fun! Even if I don't ride one of the rides, spending time with you guys is always great!!" He smiles at them. Val looks surprised by his words, then smiles as well, "Oh lovey, you're so sweet I think I'll get a cavity." They turn their attention back to Asahi across the way; he's picking up the sledgehammer. He hefts it up briefly, once, twice, before raising it above his head and slamming it down. The bell on the top rings loudly as it's hit. Val and Christian clap gently and they watch Asahi point out a medium sized dog plush.

Soon he's marching over, presenting the plush to Christian proudly. "I love playin' that one, I win every time," He says, sitting back down. Asahi watches as Christian looks at the plush then asks, "Do you like it?"

"I love it! I'll treasure him forever!" He says, hugging him close. Asahi leans close to him and wordlessly offers a kiss. Christian presses a careful kiss to his lips and Asahi smiles as he pulls away. He goes back to whatever he temporarily abandoned. "What would you two like to do next?" Val asks.

I finally managed to finish this piece!!

After taking the pressure of art and redefining with myself that it's for fun and the creating is the fun part, not necessarily the results I could finally finish it

Tama's design is so strong, I loved drawing her

It's been soooo long since I last made a pattern so I really enjoyed her shirt haha (also Manta Rays?? Hello?? And they're in even tied into the character and aren't just for show??? Chefs kisses all over<3)

I also had a surprising amount of fun with the nudibranch boi, I'm taking name suggestions

Colour wise I really wanted to lean into the toxic a little but keep it somewhat natural? I guess I tried to go for a 'the kodoku is fucked up but it's supposed to be that way' kinda vibe, like, I changed the sky colour from blue to green at some point

Anyway Tama is a canon bleach character, thank you so much @gallusrostromegalus for letting me draw her, hope the wait was worth it haha<3

Asahi fought Space Riders... Again.

Result: It was a fail, he didn't get to kill them. Although, he injured them pretty badly.

After being in the cult for a while, his rank has risen from Pawn to Priest since he tended and watched over Lazy Priest's garden after her disappearance. A lot of the cultists still treats him as a pawn. (Idk if raising ranks in the cult is possible, but if not then oof)

He'd occasionally go out on his own and find any Space Riders to fight in hopes of finding who took Lazy Priest. He was only informed that she was taken by Space Riders, but never told which Space Rider specifically.

He neglected his own health in other to find her and to tend to her garden. With the use of the red gas, he would go weeks to up to a month without eating, which is why he seem malnourished and tired all the time.

"linacore" and instead of a black background, i tried to make them more colorful. i think they came out too colorful.. apologies if they look too eyestrain-y..

i think aimi's mv theme will be obvious, hehe. you won't have to think much about flower language and stuff like that tho, so don't worry. i really don't think i have to explain why i gave xxx cat to her, like. i think it's obvious jdkslsls (i also thought of maybe giving her bacterial contamination, but i changed my mind since even though the lyrics sound a lot like her, the aesthetic is.. not very aimicore). starlight girl was mostly given to her bc i thought it'd sound cute, but some lyrics do remind me of her and her relationship with her victim ("whispering that sweet lie, you disappeared", "but i still haven't been able to fill up this hole you left inside me"). was deep cover assigned to her only bc of the aimi (kotoko's va) pun?.. maybe. but no, no, i really do have a deeper reason for that! but for now, all i can say is. her relationship with miki and all other prisoners at the moment.

i honestly gave up while trying to think of a title for his song, so i think "???" perfectly describes shun's character and how tired i felt. if you need to know how it's supposed to be pronounced, i imagine it being something like "uhh..", showing how shun is confused 24/7. AND FINALLY HE'S OFFICIALLY GETTING A ZOMBIES COVER.. the reason why i went with zombies is bc shun just.. feels like a zombie to me. like the way he talks, how i imagine him moving, his color palette.. and also the imagery of his victims' dead bodies. like aww, he's drinking tea and eating cake while both his "ex-gf" and her new bf are dead <3 how cute.. i think his character trailer voiceline will really show how much the lines like "your body is cold even when we hug", "i love you, half-decomposed isn't bad", etc, fit him.. about aishiteitanoni, I DON'T THINK I HAVE TO EXPLAIN ANYTHING, IT'S PERFECT FOR HIM, I SCREAMED WHEN I SAW IT SHOW UP IN MY NOTIFS HSHAHSHSJS. meme is. meme. that's what a guilty verdict does to a guy. and yes, his vd's title is supposed to be a reference to his t1 vd :)

oh naomi.. if only it was easier to come up with song titles for you.. i was giggling while typing her vd's title tho LIKE YES NAOMI EMBRACE THE FACT THAT YOU WERE NEVER ABLE TO TRULY GROW UP!! her miraise cover is really up to interpretation, it can be both about her relationship with her mother and her trying to express her true feelings and make her mother listen, but it also can be about her relationship with tao ("you went before me, didn't you?", "how long do i have to wait? how long do i have to cry?", "i'm singing to the you that will be born after tomorrow") i felt like "it's just life" really fits her and her cover would sound very pretty and it's also just. sad. like naomi really is a smart and talented woman, she could have a bright future, she could have lots of friends, but.. she has way too many issues. and she can't accept that. HER DOUBLE COVER WOULD BE SO GOOD. THE INSTRUMENTAL WOULD MOSTLY BE THE SAME BUT HER VOICE WOULD STILL SOUND SOFT AND REALLY ANNOYED AT THE SAME TIME.. i get chills while thinking about her version of the scene where mikoto calls his mom..

his song title was originally supposed to be a pun on the theme of his mv, but it sounded kinda meh to me, so i just went with his main philosophy instead sjskslsl. (the reference to that pun is still there on the cover though) also nO I'VE DECIDED THAT RABBIT HOLE IS VERY KEICORE A LONG TIME AGO EVEN BEFORE THAT ANIMATION SIT DOWN I'M POINTING MY GUN AT YOU SIT DOWN!!!! thank you now i didn't just go with rabbit hole bc "haha funny horny song", it actually does fit kei's aesthetic very well and the lyrics sound a lot like him because rabbit hole always sounded very.. childish to me? like yes, it's supposed to sound all silly and playful, but kei's whole thing is that even though he claims he's so cool and mature and gets all the bitches, this guy still feels like he's younger than eiji (who is six years younger than him), unconsciously regresses to cope with whatever life throws at him and rarely takes dark, scary and tragic stuff seriously. it does reveal some stuff about his crime and his relationship with the victims too! ("you want me to repent? what can i say?", "little miss devotion, the exit's over there, oh, so not going home after all?") as for his other covers, BAD HONEY HUNT FITS HIM SO WELL. LOOK AT THE THUMBNAIL. COME ON THAT'S SO HIM. and the lyrics sound a lot like him as well! about him getting tihtbilwy.. that's him taking his rose-colored glasses on again and singing about how he sees his relationship with ruka :')

EIKO IS OVER HERE GOING FULL SLAY MODE!!! i originally wanted the title to be smth like "grave robber-chan/san", since i prefer to use jp honorifics in my writing, but i felt like no honorifics would fit the song's vibe, so i went with good old "miss" instead. parasite fits eiko so well.. it describes her relationship with her victim perfectly.. the reason why i gave her cat is. well first of all IT WOULD SOUND REALLY COOL, but also, i actually don't see it as eiko singing about herself, i like to think that she's singing about takeru instead, making fun of him for lying to her and manipulating her ("lie until it gets better, follow the king of the masquerade", "victim and perpetrator, let's keep it simple", "i just wanted to ask, so it's out in the open, i just got a little greedy"). MY BRAIN EXPLODED WHEN I REALIZED HER COVER CAN BE INTERPRETED IN THAT WAY LIKE IMAGINE HER SINGING ABOUT HOW MUCH HE SUCKS WHILE STILL HAVING THE ORIGINAL INSTRUMENTAL. (also considering what he did to her, "let's take a breather" sounds very... sad) about her getting getcha. let's just. let her have her girlboss moment one last time.

we're getting another insect themed mv!! (though spider isn't really an insect but kei's t2 mv also had butterfly motifs so...) the caterpillar motif won't be that strong in asahi's mv description, but it will be there. i think i should draw him in his t3 mv outfit to show it better.. i think his hitojichi koukan cover would sound very cute and sad and the lyrics describe his relationship with satsuki so well.. ("no matter how much you love me, all i do is get itchy", "i can't drag you along so let's say goodbye", "after all, i want to make you my servant") YES ANOTHER VELL SONG I LOVE VELL'S SONGS OKAY they're so short but so catchy.. i feel like the voice that i imagine asahi to have would fit perfectly, like it'd sound so cute, but so punchable, like this kid goes "noooo, relationships are more important than money!!" and then literally the next lyrics are "money and personal connections make the world go round" 😭😭 but also, to be more serious, the lyrics are very asahicore!! ("naturally i always put myself first", "it's boring that people's desires never end", "in a nutshell i do that because it's funny to me", "that's a trust relationship! if it's not enough, you should buy it") about his umbilical cover... well. first of all, again, it'd sound cute! but also, um. considering the way his biological mom died, i thought that him getting this song would be very. ironic.

her voice drama's title is a sailor moon reference and her original song's title can be seen as a spongebob reference. i cannot take this woman seriously. but i actually like her mv's aesthetic a lot! i should definitely draw her in her t3 mv outfit one day.. (i say that even though i still haven't drawn her as that monster from her t2 mv. so sorry yurikers..) I HAD TO GIVE HER SALAMANDER OKAY!! I HAD TO!! it's literally perfect for one of the hunger prisoners, it's very yurikacore and the lyrics remind me a lot of her relationship with takame and just her personality in general. ("i surrender, i'm already hooked, i can't function without you anymore", "can i get seconds? one more time", "i'm already obsessed, is it doing super great?") love me some toxic spicy ramen yuri <3 binomi came out VERY recently and before that i was thinking of giving her eye by kanaria simply bc of the vibes, but maretu saved me once again 🙏 the hunger theme is so strong.. yurika deserves to cover all the cannibalism songs ever.. (fun fact yurika actually WAS supposed to be a cannibal but then i changed her crime. i think her current crime fits her better but still. we could've had a cannibal prisoner everyone) and again, i went with "i love you" bc 1) her relationship with takame and 2) i think there's something beautiful and horrifying about the concept of yurika feeding takame rats that she sees as a cake while also going "why can't i just do it right", considering the huge power imbalance they had with takame being older and being her boss and giving yurika literally everything she could've asked for and making yurika feel like she owes her in the process..

OH RIKU..... and also nope, riku's mv won't exactly have a video game theme, that's shun's thing, but the lyrics will reference them a few times. riku's mv is actually one of my favorites so hopefully you guys like it too.. he's my special little boy he always gets the best mvs.. (/j i don't have any faves sjsklssl but riku definitely always gets my creative juices going) i originally wanted undead alice to be his t2 cover but chimera is just so rikucore and i thought it'd go with his t2 mv really well, so i changed it though i still think that maybe chimera would be better as his t3 cover bc of the guilty verdict vibes chimera has.. so anyway undead alice is literally yueriku ("live by feeding on me, since you can’t go out like you want to", "i'm starting to hate the butterflies in my stomach, so please die before i kill you", "let’s bury this cowardly love here, let’s stop and forget all this, it’s better to hate since it's easier that way" AND BASICALLY THE WHOLE SONG). about shinitagari, i actually was planning to assign it to riku as a cover back when i first came up with him and riku's character even was kinda inspired by it! except shinitagari has a more positive meaning meanwhile riku took "wanna die? go ahead and die then" a bit too literally.. also yeah, he's the one who gets inmf this time. i imagine him making a rock cover of it too.. he surely took his guilty verdict well <3

reina's album cover doesn't really have much to show but i think it actually fits her character a lot. also idk if it's that noticeable, but i tried to make her album cover more glitchy than the others. when it comes to her deco cover, i mostly went with it bc of her name meaning, but some lyrics are very reinacore (+ they remind me a lot of her relationship with her brother)! ("so please, shut up before i feel too embarrassed to speak to you again", "because no matter how many times you fool me with "i'm going to change," it'll just end all over again", "so let’s play the "whose fault is it game," the rules are rather hard, even for the winners") hello dystopia reminds me a lot of her character in general and i also just think she deserves to get at least one cover where she goes absolutely wild. fake actor and triage are just her being all sad but in hello dystopia she can go a little insane!! a little crazy even!!
