Having some feelings this evening about Frodo’s reaction to people around him being corrupted by desire for the One Ring. How generally devoid it is of any blame placed on that person, and how he instead treats it as a tragedy to spare others from by distancing himself.

It’s a big deal in the latter books that Frodo wants to show Sméagol kindness if possible because things have progressed so far that Frodo can recognize his own experience in him. But what’s really making me stare at a wall right now are Frodo’s early days reactions even before the personal identification is as strong.

Basically, I can’t stop thinking about how deeply Frodo’s reaction to that last encounter with Boromir is informed by the fact that the first person to ever try and take the ring from Frodo was actually Bilbo. The fact that the first person Frodo ever saw corrupted to that point, even for a moment, was the kind, clever, caring uncle who adopted and taught him, and who Frodo thinks the world of.

Just thinking about the personal relationship Frodo had with the very first person he saw the Ring affect and how fundamentally that set the tone for his understanding of it for the entirety of the journey.

Saruhiko keeping a pet in his dorm in complete secret. (Probably a crow that bangs on his window and gives him something shiny)

Aw imagine Fushimi managing to befriend a crow that loves to bring him shiny things (he definitely doesn’t secretly name it Misaki and it definitely doesn’t answer to that name, nope). Like when he moves into the dorm he sometimes leaves his window open because even though he hates fresh air it’s better than dying if heatstroke because there’s no air conditioning. One day a random crow flies into his room, rather than freaking out or anything Fushimi just clicks his tongue and ignores it, busy working. The crow hops onto his desk and steals his Caloriemate, Fushimi doesn’t even have a moment to try and stop it before off it flies. Fushimi just stares after it like what the hell and then sighs and gets up to go buy more food. 

The next day though there’s an empty Caloriemate wrapper on his windowsill, Fushimi takes it and idly leaves a half-eaten one there instead. Later on it’s gone but in its place is a nice shiny coin. After this Fushimi finds himself leaving things for the crow, telling himself that he isn’t attached or anything it’s just the crow keeps the more annoying birds away. If he spots it on the grounds of S4 he’ll toss it some junk food or shoo away Kuro the cat, say the crow is a bit undersized so that’s how Fushimi knows which one it is. The crow likes to bring him all kinds of things in thanks, imagine it’s gifted him at least a couple of Munakata’s puzzle pieces that Fushimi holds onto just because maybe this will get Captain to do some actual work. The crow also brings him a really nice knife once and Fushimi has no idea if the bird just stole him a gift or what but he’s keeping it.
