btw fair warning this is a random thoughts ramble post. Probably wont make sense to everyone. but my brain insisted i write this so you all have to see it now/j

I am reminded that i seem to have a tendency to try and mirror the Stars and Nightmare's gang off one another. if you don't exactly know what i mean. that's fine i am not the best at wording things BUT it's kinda like this:

a few of the gang members reflect some of the roles Dream Blue and Ink have in their Group and vice versa.

I see Dream and Nightmare as the leaders/tired dad friends. They have Different personalities but hold the same position.

I also see Ink and Killer as The Chaotic Gremlins of their own groups. Once again very different yet somewhat similar in a way. Both seem to have difficulty with emotions and their souls. Very Different problems but in a way mirroring each other.

Horror and Blue are kinda the secondary chaos Mediators. They both also are often the Ones who Cook... They also can both be Chaos initiators if they want to but for the most part are the less impulsive ones. Yet Once again VERY different from each other but also a Mirror in a way.

I also Include Stretch as an honorary member of the Stars sometimes and He could be seem as a Mirror to Dust in a way? Its harder to explain but they have the same vibe ig to their friends. Their the no energy but very smart... thinkers? Its hard to explain but i can see the mirroring.

Stretch and dust also Mirror each other in terms of relationships with the other members of their groups. Dust and Killer have a tendency to clash with each other in my mind, and though Stretch and Ink interacting is not often explored if at ALL, but i can see him having a hard time getting along with ink sometimes though not as violent as Killers and Dusts feuding sibling relationship.

Stretch and Dust also are close to their teams respective Secondary chaos mediators. Which would be Horror for dust, and Blue for Stretch. Stretch is literally Blues younger brother and i see horror as a sort of honorary big brother. He has much Bro energy.

Cross doesn't have a Mirror but then again The Stars are a smaller group. I feel the need to Balance the groups out now... I need another member to be added to the Stars. Just for the sake of this. It is NECESSARY. Then again Cross could be on either team and still seem to fit in. Idk he's a wild card ig. Play him with any team :p

ANYWAYS the point is i think the symbolism of the Stars and Nightmare's gang kinda being two sides of the same coin in a way is entertaining to think about.

Keep in mind i'm talking about my Fannon version of these Goobers i've built in my head based on random headcanons and other things i've seen + other stuff i've thought about.

Story update

I got to write a good chunk of the opening these past two days. Excited to get more work done over March break. And I can't wait to get to writing more about my daughter T-T But she comes in a bit later in the story. Still in the first act, though.

Okay but all the little changes and everything in Scum Villain add up to the ultimate, biggest difference in the story, which is this:

Shen Qingqiu, who was an early villain in the novel who gets defeated relatively early in the story (relative to the fact that there are about a billion more pages after he becomes a human stick) and Luo Binghe, who was the main character, both completely reverse their roles.

Shen Qingqiu becomes the protagonist who is generally very well liked. The Shen Qingqiu of PIDW was a liar and a schemer and just about the most suspicious person in any given room at any given time. The Shen Qingqiu of SVSSS is a liar (by necessity) and a schemer (of ways to off himself but live through it) and just about the most suspicious person in any given room at any given time (if someone who I had a rivalry with suddenly called me a “beauty fading,” I think I would react in a similar way to Liu Qingge honestly). All the traits that made the character disliked are things that the others actively choose to ignore in the person, because they like him.

Luo Binghe becomes not just a villain, but the ultimate villain. The unbeatable villain. Luo Binghe in PIDW was generally very well-liked because he could manipulate people into thinking he wasn’t that bad and he was morally grey and he could defeat any monster with relative ease. Luo Binghe in SVSSS is generally disliked, particularly because whenever he pulls out his very convincing polite person cosplay, everyone knows that he is definitely manipulating them and is a bit wary of why. He’s morally grey but his morals are even more screwed up than his predecessor. He can defeat any monster with relative ease, but he can’t defeat any person he wants to, he can’t kill anybody he wants to, because he knows that Shen Qingqiu would hate him if he did and he doesn’t want that. The traits that the original used to his own advantage only makes this version more and more unhappy.

Shen Qingqiu goes from a villain, the villain the readers all most wanted for Luo Binghe to take out because of how terrible he was to Luo Binghe, to the protagonist.

Luo Binghe goes from the protagonist, the protagonist with hundreds of wives and the world under his control, to the villain.

I can never get over this role reversal, this swapping of spots, this absolute 180 of the characters from the base novel. It’s one of the clearest indicators of the story being permanently altered. It’s part of why they fit so well and work and it’s really good, it’s really really good I like it a lot.

the school arc to me is so good because it drags ciel out of his position as a powerful figure and literally places him in the shoes of the person he could have been. the circus arc ALSO drags him out of his position as big bad queens watch dog/head of the phantomhive estate but the school arc feels like a mockery of a future that never was. this is what he could have been had his parents not died. and even then its NOT because he will never be that kid.

ok so those guys in particular are from the fox procedural called 9-1-1 Lone Star, which is a spinoff of the original 9-1-1 (which just got moved to abc after some Drama that went down so my tag for it is 911 (not fox) lmaoo). but both shows are about first responders (firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, police) with a particular focus on firefighters. 9-1-1 (the og) is set in LA, and primarily focuses on the 118 firehouse and the firefighters/paramedics there with some other characters in the main cast who work as dispatchers/police officers (the police storylines are more often than not FULL of copaganda which sucks but the main focus is on the firefighters so i'm able to enjoy the rest of the show). 9-1-1 Lone Star is pretty much the same except it's set in austin texas, and is about the 126 firehouse. there are onscreen queer characters in both (in the og there's a married lesbian couple raising a kid, and in lone star there's the aforementioned hot gay boys [one of whom is unfortunately a cop but i swear to GOD i will get him out of there. one day.] and in lone star there's also a trans man and wlw woman in the main cast.) and my favorite thing about these shows is the found family !!! like these are the shows that have endeared firefighter aus to me because they live together and eat meals together and just. the familial/platonic love is So Powerful and it legiterally makes me cry to watch. like there's romance ofc but genuinely it's one of my favorite found family medias to ever exist. its So.

of the two the og is my favorite for a LOT of reasons, but they're both pretty enjoyable !! lone star definitely has more of a comedic tone than og (theyre BOTH funny but lone star doesn't have as many somber intense moments as og does, and they're much more spread out so there's a lot more room for goofy shenanigans. but og still definitely has plenty of those) and the team dynamics in them both are just...ughhh <3333

HOWEVER. lone star has ..... Him...(derogatory)...he's the fire captain and (despite lone star SUPPOSEDLY being an ensemble show with no Main Character) is in fact. the Main Character. and he's the blandest most obnoxious crustiest white man to ever LIVE. he gets most of the storylines and he's constantly propped up by the writing as The Coolest Guy Ever when he's just . not . i hate him so much it's unreal it's soo so unreal (<- biting the bars of my cage) BUT the rest of the team ??? absolutely love them. like i DO love lone star a lot its a great show with great characters and dynamics but it just has. the most annoying guy to ever live front and center when ITS SUPPOSED TO BE AN ENSEMBLE SHOW FEATURING EVERYONE EQUALLY. grr. anyway. og does a much better job of being an ensemble show, and i could not choose a favorite character of the main cast if you held me at gunpoint. angela bassett is there. i am gay. jennifer love hewitt is there. i am very gay. etcetera.

AND SINCE YOU ASKED SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THE LONE STAR GAYS ILL TELL YOU A BIT ABOUT THEM

so one of them is tk strand (firefighter/paramedic, also the son of the Main Character (derogatory). i have many many many thoughts about that. i would probably get gunned down in this fandom if i ever said them aloud.) and the other one is carlos reyes (a private detective TO MEEEEEEEEEEEE but unfortunately fox is full of cowards who refuse to see the truth. they wanna have a gay cop in their show sooo bad </3) and they're kind of the main romance of the show (there Are others ofc but theyre like. The Focus. which is fine ig but i do wish there was more focus on other relationships because in general lone star isnt as good as the ensemble thing as og. but i already complained about that so i digress.)

now they're a fun pair because one of them has been shot, frozen almost to death, and otherwise put into a coma on MULTIPLE occasions. and it's not the guy whose entire job is to get shot at. (the whump in both of these shows.....................absolutely effervescent. im thriving here.) and they have a very fascinating relationship because their personalities fit together really well but they have different ways of coping with shit that kind of tear each other apart a little bit. which is of course terrible for them but incredible for me. and the writing is at times ridiculous. soap opera-esque, even. they're ridiculous. i adore them. they cannot catch a god damn break and i love that for them even more. <3

How do you feel about the latest lore stream? About c!Tommy and c!Dreams last moments

Short answer: it was really bad and a bit hurtful, honestly

Long answer: It really stinks that this was the ending but I personally was bit braced for it. Tom-the-guy had talked about how he was going to kill cTommy during the original disc finale back in January 2021, so I was sort of prepped for him dying. That said, still sucks that he had such a bleak story. I also think that it was kneecapped by the fact that Big CCs - either Dream or Tommy - really wanted season 2 to be a "continuation" of season 1 without any of the baggage. Imo, it could have just been a full reset, but working within the constraints they set for themselves really robbed the audience of any conclusion or resolution. On top of that, by making everyone forget the events of season 1, the server basically reset to zero. It undid everything in the story and caused cTommy's story to lose a lot of the meaning it had. It ended up being suffering for no real reason. Often stories that reset or have everyone forget are either about the little enjoyments in life, or are about brutal nihilism. In this case, while I think cc!Tommy tried to address the former - that things ending and dying is ok - he missed the mark simply by having his character have been so beaten down and hurt.

To add insult to injury, that cTommy's last words to the man who tortured him as a teenager, who murdered him multiple times, and would never ever feel bad about those things was that he was "sorry." That really, really sucks. I personally think that Tom-the-guy did NOT mean for that to come across as forgiveness or even true understanding, but that it was supposed to mirror the end fight in No Way Home. It was meant to be that superhero story trope of being better than the bad guy, and rising above them. I think personally he was trying to write cTommy as kind and self-sacrificial and a True Hero. But for a myriad of reasons that did not come across well and it felt a lot more harmful than I believe it was ever meant to be.

Both things compounded to make the end just so absolutely depressing and hurtful to watch that I honestly cannot blame people for some of the reactions that I'm seeing. And it fucking sucks to see people see it as a somehow "good" ending. Or worse, using it as an excuse to spout straight-up abuse apologism.

All this to say that while I do think it was bad, and I do think people are valid when they're hurt by this ending, I personally don't think it was purposefully cruel. I think it was a very earnest swing and a miss on an ending that needed to wrap up a lot of story in a short amount of time, with a lot of constraints, and all the dialogue had to be improv'd live in front of thousands of people. And I could be even more charitable and say that cTommy was a character whose deep and upsetting trauma was written by a privileged 16 year old, who almost certainly had no idea what he was getting himself into, but who tried to do some justice by the character he had written. I could be uncharitable, too, but frankly I've got a bad case of CC bias so I'm Being Nice To Him.

So I've been pulled into some Mechwarrior shenanigans and I truly forgot how much I liked the concept of 'its a fancy walking tank and it's unwieldy but can take a hit and is incredibly effective in the hands of a good pilot' over the 'i get in and become superman' style. Both are good, I just like one better. Also probably why I enjoyed the MSG: The 8th MS Team more than a lot of other MSG's...also early Code Geass fights

Hozier was amazing. His voice is so rich and resonant in person, it was such a joy to listen to. And when he played Cherry Wine, he managed to make it feel like an intimate bar show instead of a packed amphitheater. Absolutely incredible to see live.
