Calling all Oncelings! I need your help!
Greetings, Onceler fandom! Tis I, MJ, just a little guy who wants your help on a big project I'm planning!
Here's the rundown: I want to do a deep-dive video on the Lorax, from its origins to its adaptations, to the cultural phenomenon that it has become, including a HUGE dedicated section to the fandom and its history! And I need your help with it! Keep reading if this interests you :D
Rough outline of topics that I'm plannning on addressing:

Where's the fandom at now?
It's a huge project and that's why I want you all to help me with it! What do I want your help with? At the moment this is my list!
Research and Fact Checking on the "Content" Section, especially on lesser known topics like the musical or the cut content! (Pspspsps calling the five of you who actually know what the musical is)
RESEARCH AND FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCES OF THE ONCELER FANDOM'S EARLY DAYS!! I joined this place in 2023 so I don't know much about the early days of the fandom, and I want to know SO much more than I do! I want to know the scope, everything from the in-jokes to the aus to the deoncelerization. If you've been in this fandom since 2012 I would LOVE to hear from you!
Last but not least, I want the end of this video to be a love letter to this community, sharing firsthand experiences of what the Onceler as a character and the fandom means to you! I want to conduct interviews with people over discord (which is going to be a lot less fancy than it sounds so dw, it's not going to be an interrogation LMAO)
Specifics are subject to change but one thing will stay, I want to end the video to be made out of raw Love and Appreciation for this fandom, showcasing the side of this little corner of the internet that people who brush it off as mindless cringe don't see. All I've seen from this community is love and support and I want to be the video essayist who shows it for what it is!
At the moment I don't really have much of a plan (I'm not a very good planner lol), but if enough interets garners I know it'll help me streamline my motivation and come up with a game plan!
Feel free to leave me suggestions for where to go from here, maybe give out my discord? Make a Discord Server? Maybe there's something I can do solely on tumblr? I don't know! I don't know at all how Tumblr works! Help Me! Am just a little guy!

I grew up with the 2012 Onceler WITHOUT knowing about how much of a king the 72' version was. He's more DILFy,the 2012 one is a young guy with Mommy issues and he needs therapy

There's a lot of adaptations, and in each of them there's something for everyone. You literally can find a canon Onceler to your liking, the book one, 1972, 2012, the ones from the musical (2015-2021) - there's a lot of them and they're all kinda fucked up cool in their own ways :3
I remember reading the OG book back in my english classes, but 2012 movie was something that got me into this fandom
I feel like it was my duty to do my research and learn everything about every adaptation, and i don't regret it

Ooc: another announcement/boundaries
I come back here after noticing a weird phenomenon in the fandom. Yes I did leave, even blocking tags and unfollowing a lot of people, and this is coming especially from some friends who realised it as well, since I totally cut everything with the fandom and I don't really know what's going on lately.
What "phenomenom" I'm talking about? The blantantly copying, of course.
What I mean by that is that some of us realised that some people in the fandom, instead of coming up with original ideas, decide to shamelessly copy our concepts and make it their own. And it's not only with others who deoncelerized, no, sometimes it's even with ocs who are still -lers.
Now don't get me wrong, I think gatekeeping especially in the art community is disgusting, I cannot stand people who are like "you're not allowed to use the same poses or colors as I do." Because it's absolutely stupid, you cannot copyright things such as colors or poses.
But when it's about characters... It's a little more delicate. Especially in such a small fandom, where it's impossible that it is a "coincidence" if your character happens to have the same gimmick or color palette as another.
Maybe for some of you, it's alright if someone gets inspired by your oc to make their own, and it's your choice. But listen: if you really want to use the same gimmick as another oc, maybe ask first? Instead of blantantly taking the concept and claiming it your own, making people believe it's your original idea when it's pretty obvious you just ctrl c ctrl v someone else's oc. And what's the most hurtful is to see that these "bootlegs" are often more popular that the originals.
So I'm coming here to put a quick boundary:
Please, even if I left the fandom, do not shamelessly copy Ranler's concept. If you really want some kind of radioactive oc, please be original. Come up with your own concept and idea, and do not, under any circumstances, copy anything I did, I'm just not ok with that. I've been here since early 2021, been working on my oc for so long, and I would be really upset if someone copy paste his whole concept and design and claim it at their own.
Along these lines, I am also not ok if you "impersonate" Ranler. What I mean by that is, I'm not ok if you roleplay as him, or create a blog acting as him (example: I left the fandom but you still want a Ranler onceler blog, so you make one yourself). It makes me really uncomfortable. I don't really think anyone would be THAT attached to him, since I got lot of hate when I first made him, but tbh I'm just writing all that as a "I warned you" if I see anyone copy my stuff and use it as their own. Don't cry if I DM you saying you copied me. Like I said, this fandom is so tiny you CAN'T pretend it's a coincidence, it's simply impossible, and it makes me really uncomfortable to see some of my friends' concepts are being shamelessly ripped off and they somehow get more popular [isnt it funny how the 2021/2022 wave felt excluded and our concepts disliked but now so many people copy them? Crazy]
Anyway, that was just me writing down my boundaries. If you read this, I really hope you understand. And if you're reading this and copied someone's oc, I really hope you reconsider what you are doing, and maybe ask the original owner if they are ok with it, and do not be upset if they tell you to stop, you should respect people's boundaries, and you'll always be at fault for shamelessly copying an idea someone spent months or more writing.

Okay it's my turn to complain and explain why I don't want to interact with that (onceler) fandom anymore ✋
I joined it back in late 2020/early 2021. I don't exactly remember how so don't ask. Tbh it was ok back then, even if I had issues with either creepy people (trying to groom me), or when I created Ranler, so many telling me how much he sucks because oh no, he's too different from the original onceler, everyone will hate it, nobody will be interested in a weirdo like him. Anyway that's why his askblog was inactive for a whole year until summer 2022, when I met friends, and I joined the fandom again after a hiatus, and got active on Ranler's blog. It was nice, until 2023. When the fandom got popular on tiktok. Obviously, the fandom already had flaws before, but they weren't as obvious. It was a good feeling, finally a fandom who cares about ocs, since being an oc artist is pretty much taking life on hardcore mode, cuz nobody in the art community cares about ocs. But it was foolish to think this way, because with the fandom exploding in popularity, you see that people care only a pinch of ocs, who are the most basic, of course. And obviously, this comes with idolizing, and throwing smaller artists under the bus. I had to turn off anon because I got hate because I dared to speak out about this same issue. The idolizing in this fandom got to a cultish-like point, and so many people fail to realise this issue. Kissing someone's toes, saying how they are the only good artist, goes absolutely crazy because they tell you hi. Y'all need to step back and chill. And the people who get ideolised and dony even realise, and claim to be humble, say smaller artists "don't worry, I'm not famous, I also struggle ^^" when they get 100+ notes on their art, wouldn't struggle when opening commissions, getting attacks on artfight before even sighing up. And you're here with less than 10 notes, people spitting on your face but of course, wow, you're struggling so much!
Anyway, this is really just a rant. But I hope you get why I do not want to interact anymore. I'm not changing Ranler, since I never really saw him as a onceler anyway.

Helloooo! 2023 brought a new generation to the Onceler fandom, including me. I was too young to be in the fandom back in 2021 :,) I've been in the fandom for over 3 months now, and something that always interested me was the old askblogs. I always wanted to read them, but I only ever got my hands on one :( it's called LQ-ler, I believe. All other ones are either archived, either deleted, Im guessing? Very sad. Do you have any idea why that is? Thanks in advance < 3 have a great day!

Wait, why do you want to delete dreampop, what happened ToT
it was mostly bc I wanted to make a separate blog for something but I already have way too many blogs and all my emails were already being used and I was thinking like. I don't really do anything with dreampop anymore + he never really got much interaction so I just reused the email from his blog lol
I guess it's also I've not really been that involved with the askblog fandom since like june and all my ideas for dreampop were kind of trapped by the thought of like "this needs to be somewhat onceler related" even though technically my actual onceler obsession ended in 2021 lol. but yeah now he's free from his onceler origins I have so much more ideas for him, which I guess meant I probably wasn't gonna need to use his blog anymore rip
but dw I haven't fully deleted him, all his posts are still saved here: @dreampopler (both from his main and camp weehawken blogs) bc after basing my whole personality on wishing swag and bitter's tflu blogs still existed, I would be such a hypocrite for deleting my own askblog without saving it skdhsjd

Hello everyone! welcome to Ellie's thoughts, i've just had an existential crisis in the shower which happened because i've rewatched 'The Lorax' twice and had fallen for the green twink we all know and have mixed feelings for so buckle up people! This is gonna be a ride..
Also this is gonna be from the top of my head so excuse me if this seems like a bunch of thoughts mushed together by a thirteen year old who is stuck in quarantine with nothing to do but simp for fictional characters because this is exactly what it is! yay!
Okay where to start? Ah yes, my rediscovery of simping for The Onceler. To be honest, I have no idea what came over me. At first I said I had simped for The Onceler as a joke, making a main OC of mine crave for him and all of a sudden, I just decided to dig deeper into the lad and find ancient relics back in 2012. I ended up rewatching 'how bad can i be', rewatching clips from the lorax, watching that one video on youtube where they just took all the shots of him and started to obsess over him.
I got really invested into his whole 'greed and pride arc' thing and seeing so many people also breaking down his story and again, binge-watching content on him, I ended up getting extremely invested into him which lead to me rediscovering The Onceler fandom.
Back in 2020-2021, I already knew of the fandom's existence, it's uprising all of a sudden and I did sort of participate in it but in private. I made an OC to ship him with and did genuine stuff with it but then I lost interest in the span of a month. However, I only really got to see the 'newer fandom and not actually delve deeply into the lore or the fandom for that matter. I only really liked him because he was cute and I saw other people liking him and decided "Hey, it's popular!" so I went along with it.
Now, I'm back and I'm now watching detailed analyses of the fandom, revisiting tumblr just for content on the guy and seeking content of him because i'm so invested into this now. Looking back onto all the old stuff, how people said the fandom was going crazy shipping The Onceler with himself kinda made me feel warm? Familar? Idk how to describe the feeling, I was 3 in 2012 so I didn't really get to experience it's prime but now that i'm rediscovering it, I've realised it must've been super fun. The askblogs, the roleplay's, the AU's, it all seems so fun and I wish I could've been a part of it.
I wondered why I was feeling so attached to something that happened such a long time ago, that happened while I wasn't aware of what the internet even was back then and there comes my existential crisis in the shower. I feel alone-ish, I feel attached to The Onceler because it was something people enjoyed, it's something I was familiar with and that I could've bonded with people about, it just felt like a bunch of teens being teens. I wanted to experience that, it kinda makes me emotional because a lot of people said they had fun, it was fun.
I think the reason that i'm getting so attached to things that were so long ago is also due to the fact that I to felt a sense of nostalgia and belonging, and I know this is THE ONCELER FANDOM but damn. I guess I just really miss the when people went bonkers with anything and could do whatever they wanted on the internet. Kinda probably also has ties to the fact I was (and kinda are) in the Undertale AU fandom (not comparing fandoms i hope).
I'm sorry for making this so gosh darn long and speaking of The Onceler fandom as if it was some era in history when in reality it was just a couple of years ago lol, just wanted to say what I had in mind. Seeing Onceler fanart and stuff about him being posted really makes me happy, thank you <3
