so earlier today i sat down to watch one or two episodes of onmyoji for asnm reasons...
...i have since finished it lol FOR MINAMOTO NO HIROMASA/ABE NO SEIMEI REAL reasons
and i enjoyed it immensely!
i would say it's not the most revolutionary or even original story, the tropes were familiar and many plot beats were rather predictable, but i don't dislike that. familiar isn't always bad to me, it can make for a nice and soothing watch
animation wasn't always the most consistent, but personally i vibed with the art; opening and ending didn't grab me in the first episode, but i came around to both (especially came to like the opening)
the pacing was exceptional, like the first half of the series was more or less episodic, and i'm a fan of episodic stuff so i was on board right from the start
but the way the monster of the week type episodes folded so neatly into the larger arc that spanned the second half of the series? chef's kiss, absolutely brilliant. pretty much all the characters, mechanics, and themes introduced in the earlier episodes are relevant later on, which just makes for a really satisfying story overall
the big payoff (ep12) was imo completely worth it, i loved it both narratively and visually
AND OF COURSE THE HIROMASA/SEIMEI DYNAMIC HOLY SHIT i was completely caught off-guard by this because i have not read the original novels or manga, and i haven't seen the movie adaptations that came out in the early 2000s
so really i thought this would just be another generic abe no seimei anime, and i guess in some ways it is, but HIROMASA ELEVATES IT i love this kind of guy who's a bit of a goof and a bit too idealistic, but is just what the more cynical one needs
yasunori and atsumi were both really interesting characters to me as well, like two examples of fostering a deep inferiority complex throughout their lives, and how that can manifest in different ways depending on... various factors (trying to keep this relatively spoiler-free lol)
doman. man. i am weak for handsome sinister women voiced by sato rina what can i say lmao
and i am SO glad tsuyuko had a rather uplifting arc, weird girl rights! i do wish we'd had more time with both her and doman, but i guess understandable that there's only so much they can do in 13 episodes
the end end did feel the tiniest bit slapdash (like ep12 was such a huge crescendo that of course it would be a bit difficult for ep13 to stay As Good) but that didn't diminish my overall enjoyment
tl;dr it's not the most mind-blowing story but i found it very enjoyable and am suddenly into heian period rpf lmao send help

Hello! I’m Junia. Long-time lurker on the edges of Tumblr, finally decided to dive in. I’m hoping to share crafty things, art, fanfics, and writing advice I come across here, and some of my own projects as well. A little bit about me…
I’m a crafter. A long-time knitter and occasional amigurumi enthusiast, most recently I’ve been working on learning the basics of flat crochet. Currently fascinated with fades and color washes. 🌈 I do some sewing also, mostly for cosplay.
I’m also an aspiring writer with the world’s worst case of writer’s block. 😅 Plotting out stories comes much more easily than actually writing them, so I’m always gathering helpful writing tips and inspiration. Fantasy and fanfic are my cup of tea.
I’ve been studying Japanese for many years (though currently on a bit of a hiatus due to health issues), and have slowly been working on reading and translating the light novels of one of my favorite anime/manga series, かくりよの宿飯 Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits.
I adore Taishakuten and Ashura from Onmyoji the game, and will probably never get over their heart-breaking, sob-inducing, silly goosey absolutely perfectly magnificent story. They and the Kakuriyo cast occupy a lot of my mental fandom space. Also, I’m a fan of the webcomics Widdershins and The Shifting City (which is drawn by my dear friend @enchantress-emily!).

Conversation
Yuto:You hold the Eye of the Aether. If the Aether is being deformed, doesn't that affect you?
Seimei: Yuto, I hold 'an' Eye of Aether. One. Look at our world, all the continents, all the countries, all the religions and all its beliefs? The Aether is a beast of countless Eyes, being coerced and deformed by humanity and its beliefs. Giving shape to our demons and our divines. If humans descended from the ancient gods by the power of the Aether, we can ascend ourselves into gods by the power of the Aether.
Yuto: Like you.
Seimei: In Japan you're an hybrid, half-human, half-tengu. If you go to vatican and show your wings, you'll be called an archangel. In the times of the Heian period I was the greatest Onmyoji that ever lived, currently, I am a charlatan with a fan and an outdated spirit art. Do you see what I mean? The only thing separating "Chi" from Michael's Devil, is that Yamata no Orochi is everyone's favorite videogame boss!
Yuto: You're such a nerd.
Seimei: Shut up.

Intro | About me
Thought I'd write an intro text for anyone who comes across my page.
I'm Sigrun but I also go by Cat/Rune based on my previous and current name. I started doing adoptable designs (still do) a few years back which got me into Concept Art and Character Design. Did a school, finished that school, looking for work now.
I love creating characters and building worlds around them. There's just something incredibly satisfying about creating and expanding on your own ideas. Aesthetically I enjoy ethereal and grotesque themes and gore. Tho I don't personally draw the later one too often.
Here's some media I really like:
Some of my faves are (and I'm also probably forgetting a lot) ✧Anime: Evangelion, One Piece, Fate, Magi, Mononoke, TGCF, JoJo, Houseki no Kuni, Madoka, Records of Ragnarok, MiA, etc..
✧Games: Onmyoji, Genshin Impact, Honkai Starrail, Nier: Automata, Bioshock, Danganronpa, etc..
I also collect anime-pvc figures! While I do buy characters from show, I often end up buying OC characters based on their design. Love figures from ALTER, Apex, Myethos and Max Factory the most!
Lastly, while I'm not the most fashionable person myself, I do love fashion. Personally I'm also a big fan of EGL Fashion.
Feel free to shoot me messages if you'd like
