The legacy of a craftsman

The amount of space that Blade and Yingxing takes up in my brain is feeling increasingly concerning. I can't stop thinking about them...

Like now that it's finally not just a leak, has anyone else read Baiheng's Travelogues about the Xianzhou Zhuming? Featuring Baby Yingxing??

Literally the second one devastates me emotionally I can't even explain it. Yingxing being so discouraged by the masters on the Zhuming who are long life species degrading him to the point he, a child, talks about how he'll probably never live to see his parents be avenged after what the Borisin did???

THAT HURTS

And God I can't even,

GOD if I could properly put into words the fact that Yingxing is a craftsman being so important to his character and identity and how Hoyoverse making a point to specify the injuries that occurred to his hands in whatever gray transition period happened between Yingxing and Blade that made him unable to craft weapons again is such a tragic visual to completely severe the two identities, that is ALL you would hear from me ever.

Because see the thing about Yingxing being a craftsman is that all stems from a goal in his past. As a child his home planet was taken over and turned into a weapons nursery, his parents were slaughtered, it became his goal as a child to create technology and weapons for the Cloud Knights to fight terrifying monsters like the Borisin. And that goal ended up defining the rest of his life, going on to become the Legendary Furnace Master on the Xianzhoh Luofu. That ended up becoming part of his legacy with the HCQ. It's clear how heavily important that part of his identity is defining not just his time in the HCQ but his time on the Zhuming, and everything that occurred to him as a child to lead him to that exact goal. His whole past.

And for Hoyoverse to specify how Blade's hands have been hurt to the point of no longer being dexterous, to the point of no longer being able to forge a weapon ever again, as those injuries cannot be healed by whatever Abundance shit he has going on since they likely happened before he became immortal(?). It just... it is devastating. It's something used as a way to severely separate the two of them so people realize they are two different identities on top of Blade already making it clear he sees Yingxing as dead. The way that they went about his hands... it's not merely that he relinquished that identity, which would be him no longer making weapons out of choice. It is that he can't connect to that identity anymore, the change he went through was far too severe. Thus he cannot make weapons anymore, he has been stripped of any ability to.

I'll make like a better post explaining this later, but I believe the use of Yingxing status as a craftsman and Blade's inability after he was revived TO craft anything is fundamentally used as a tie to the separate of identity between them and it's so well used and so tragically used.

Because again, it is not that he lost Yingxing's passion for it or decided on a different path. It is a wall that separates him from being able to do what Yingxing did in the past just as he is unable to connect to the identity his body held before death.

the neibelheim incident is the perfect example of why i love how cloud and zack’s characters are written. the whole game is about zack building up this rock solid foundation of morals, like his unfaltering loyalty and kindness, so that when he’s given the opportunity in the nibel reactor to catch sephiroth unawares and stop him before he hurts anyone else, he physically can’t bring himself to betray his friend and literally stab him in the back.

whereas cloud follows his sorry ass straight to the reactor, takes zack’s sword, and stabs that bitch without hesitation. he SKEWERED that man before he even said a word to him, and the only thing he had to say was “you killed my mom, fuck you”

even after cloud absorbs zacks personality and memories, he doesn’t pick up zack’s sense of mercy and morality, cloud operates under the assumption that the people he is fighting won’t give anyone else a fair shot, so why should he play fair. its one of my favorite things abt his character and i don’t think zakkura writers give enough attention to how much zack and cloud would argue if they ever had to work together post-game. like, cloud is full of rage 24-7. he was ready to tear shin-ra apart with avalanche for the smallest amount of gil. when tifa lets slip that johnny might rat avalanche out, cloud is ready to shank his ass. he tries to attack sephiroth almost any time he sees him, hallucination or not. where zack is very trusting and moral, cloud does whatever he has to in order to keep him and his friends safe, even if his friends don’t approve. he very much fights like someone who has only ever fought for survival and its such a good bit of writing

I know everyone on Tumblr and Twitter regards people who are 25+ or god-forbid 30+ to be in fandom for nefarious purposes only and should be doing adult things like having a shitty 9-5 office job and then getting home and staring at a beige wall.

I'm here to tell you that my experience being 30 is largely unchanged from being 20, except I now have better communication and empathy skills from years of therapy and also from gazing into the void. Also I have more bills and stress, which means I value my time being able to enjoy a hobby like playing with metaphorical Barbie dolls.

Also, I can offer you such gems of lived-experience advice like "you may have a quarter-life crisis in your twenties as adulthood comes stampeding over you, it will suck absolute ass but you are not alone and you can do this."

Anyways shout-out to the age range who are not-elders-but-regarded-as-such-online-for-some-reason. I met a 60+ person playing my cool new gardening sim game and he's legit af. I am baby compared to that guy and he's still vibing. You're allowed to be part of online communities at any age as long as you respect the people around you.

Soulmate au where when you touch your soulmate for the first time you are literally tethered together by a cord of light/energy/etc that doesn’t fade into just a tattoo around your wrists for at least a day or two and has been known to last for up to a week. You have some give (about a room or two in length depending so you can have some space in that time) but the only way out before the full time has passed is to sever the bond and risk both parties dying.

Most people use the time when Tethered to get to know their perfect match, get affairs in order, or simply have wild sex with their fated mate.

Cloud Strife, on the other hand, is somewhere between awed, terrified, and the most annoyed he has ever been because his soulmate just so happens to be the Red Mage himself Genesis Rhapsodos. If they can make it through their time Tethered without killing each other or burning down Midgar in one of their many arguments he will consider it a blessing from Gaia herself.

When I first conceptualized my iterator OC Three Stars Above Clouds, I imagined that they would be pretty lonely. Ancient society doesn’t seem to canonically place a lot of importance on astronomy, so TSAC being designed specifically for that purpose would make them a bit of an outcast in iterator social groups. TSAC is very enthusiastic about their research and enjoys talking about it, but I imagined that few other iterators would be willing to listen.

I’ve since noticed a bunch of other peoples’ iterator ocs that have a similar astronomy theme, and I’d like to think that maybe TSAC isn’t so lonely after all. They probably have plenty of peers to talk with about their work. Maybe they even form collaborative research groups and share data with each other. I think it’s nice.

My favorite client dogs as a trainer are usually really well-bred purebreds; it's a rare treat to get a very pretty dog with a nice predictable temperament.

My partner then sends me pictures of his favorite client dogs as a groomer, and they're the ugliest gremlins you've ever seen. The more the dog looks like a cursed doll or a walking corpse, the more likely he is to send me a picture in delight. I love him so much for it.
