Something I absolutely would never have guessed about Captain Swan back in season 2-3: How cuddly they became when they got together! When they got together It's like the dam broke and they constantly had to be touching each other in some form. They are one of the cuddliest couples on tv! It's hard to picture a scene they're in together where they're not touching or hugging or holding hands in some way. They're so physically affectionate and it's precious.

This is so true!

For two people who had a lot of baggage and had spend a lot of time alone and relying only on themselves, they both were 100% down with the touching and hugging and cuddling as soon as they were together.

For me “the dam breaking” was in 4x02. Up until that point we were so starved for them to touch, and then out of the blue we got the hug when Emma was rescued at the ice cave.

That is one of my very favorite moments of the whole series. It was just so cathartic to watch them pretty much collapse into one another’s arms with relief.

Finally!

Then once that happened (with Charming hoisting Emma into Killian’s arms in a symbolic gesture of approval) then they didn’t really hold back. The next scenes in the loft with Killian kneeling by Emma’s side warming her up, were about so much more than getting warm. Killian was glued to her side, draped around her, holding her hand, nuzzling her head, and he was doing it in front of everyone. And no one blinked. Not her parents, not her son, not Elsa, they all immediately realized Killian’s rightful place by her side and accepted his overt, but wholesome, display of affection and her eager acceptance of it.

It’s just so pure.

Back in season 3, I wouldn’t have guessed that these two would become such snugglers and hand-holders, but it’s really wonderful. Two people who probably had next to no physical comfort and affection as children, finding a partner they were 100% comfortable with and could finally have that.

4a is just a wasteland of missed potential… while i love it when emma has a story with her parents, emma actually has a lot more in common with anna than she does elsa while regina is much more like elsa. all four characters have self esteem issues but for different reasons. emma & anna have grown up being pushed aside and abandoned and not knowing why so as a result they’re very insecure and anxious. elsa & regina have been made to feel like monsters and they know exactly why (regina has… better reasons than elsa to feel this way but that doesn’t make it hurt less, and it IS worth noting, i think, that in the original snow queen tale, elsa would have been the villain (putting ingrid aside)). not to mention elsa & regina being afraid of their magic but finding it the only tool they have to reclaim some freedom, albeit in unhealthy ways that they have to learn to remedy.

and while it’s kind of hard to believe emmas parents not trusting her, they have been wary about emma learning magic before so it makes a sort of sense. except regina (and to a lesser extent rumple and cora) is the reason they’re wary of magic so it makes NO sense why they would sideline regina except for one scene where she advocates for emma to henry and to emmas parents (which is a GOOD SCENE but just highlights that there should also be GOOD SCENES between regina and emma). like it’s interesting that in strorybrooke emma & elsa have trouble containing their magic while regina has trouble getting her magic to work at all. it’s interesting that we figured regina’s magic was dangerous because rumple taught her dark magic but now emma’s light magic is dangerous (and this could’ve been a nice thread into 4b/dark swan stuff).

but it all culminates in emma & regina and elsa & anna finding a family they never thought they could have :’) which is really the main theme of both frozen and ouat and at least they give us something of that (mostly for emma let’s not even talk about how 4a ends for regina but hey! regina could have even had a parallel with anna where their insta love partner falls through and they find a stronger bond with the family they found with kristoff & emma & the charmings (which neither of them expected) elsa & henry (which they never doubted but there’s sort of an “oh they really do love me back” moment with the regal believer porch scene from 4.02 and like. all of frozen). i think emma faired better than regina bc she had a storyline with her parents (as much as it sucks that s4 is the last time she has multi-episode arcs with them) while regina gets sidelined from the main story as she tries and fails to not have an affair with a man who’s wife she was trying to save from a magic coma. (which as much as i appreciate regina being noble and heroic in direct opposition to her own self interest showing her character growth, this would be even better if marian weren’t so literally fridged and (don’t even get me started on marilena i’m still pretending marian is alive and well and taking roland on camping trips)

edit: not to mention emma doing the anna thing where she’s relentlessly chasing regina and regina doing the elsa thing pushing emma away which is a direct reversal of emmas tendency to run away and reginas tendency to never let anything go ever and isn’t that interesting? but the family they have as sisters (elsa & anna) and as friends co-parents etc (emma & regina) is worth fighting for okay

#there were some really great moments between emma & her parents throughout the arc and between swan queen in breaking glass #and evil snowing in shattered sight but this just makes me ache for missed potential all the more #not even getting into ingrid and lily rn #oh i’m typing in the backseat of a car and getting a little carsick rn :|#but i had to get some thoughts out #anti oq #but pretty mildly #ouat critical #less mildly #text #swan queen #frozen #s4 #elsa & anna #parallels #okay #mine #tag essay #regular essay ig

1. Who is your favourite character in 2? Nick Miller, hands down

2. Who is your least favourite character in 1? I was not a fan of Catelyn tbh.

3. What is your favourite episode of 4? "Rapunzel and the Great Tree” Rapunzel sings a reverse incantation that turns her hair black and blows her eyes black. Makes everything around her die. Fucking AWESOME.

4. What is your favourite season of 5? Season 3. Seeing Emma being scared and hiding in what she was comfortable with, then eventually opening up, letting down her walls, and finding her home in her son, parents, and true love. It was the best season. I mean, Neverland was a superior arc.

5. Who is your favourite couple in 3? I was really excited about Lucas and Max but they kinda didn’t have much time this season. Right now it’s Mike and Eleven.

6. Who is your favourite couple in 2? Nick & Jess. They have probably the hottest first kiss I’ve ever seen.

7. What is your favourite episode of 1? The Dragon and the Wolf

8. What is your favourite episode of 5? 4.02 White Out. It just has the softest vulnerable Emma moments, and it begins her friendship with Elsa which I STAN.

9. What is your favourite season of 2? Season 2 was the best. So much sexual tension and the humor was on point!

10. How long have you watched 1? Goddd I can’t even remember. Too fucking long to have deserved that ending.

11. How did you become interested in 3? It was on my Netflix suggestions and I’m a hoe for horror.

12. Who is your favourite actor in 4? I think Zachary Levi takes the cake.

13. Which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5? Split between 1 and 5 because both Emma and Daenerys really impacted me and who I am as a woman.

14. Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3 ? I’ve seen all of all of them, but GOT has more episodes so lets go with that.

15. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be? Rapunzel. Her optimism is something that I always look to when I’m feeling sad, angry, or negative (so, all the time), and I wish I was more like her.

16. Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work? Rapunzel could team up with Eleven and completely destroy that demogorgan I AM HERE FOR IT.

17. Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple? Jaime and Sansa cause SNARK factor. If Sansa was aged up.

18. Overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5? #3 for consistency. Unfortunately, OUAT suffered from some lackluster writing in the end.

19. Which has the better theme music, 2 or 4? I don’t think there is much music in New Girl, LOL. Definitely Tangled in any case.

Hello! I am doing a rewatch of OUAT with a friend. She hasn't seen anything past S4. We want to skip through some of the unnecessary to the overall plot episodes in S1-4, especially if there is no Regina in them. Any thoughts on which episodes are safe to skip?

Okay this is just a brutal cut list that doesn’t mean that all of these are bad episodes.

Here’s something I haven’t really ever contemplated until now. At the end of 4x02, Emma and Killian are cuddled up together on a chair looking as in love as ever. Then at the beginning of 4x03, Emma’s downright pissed at Killian and we later find out that it’s her fear of losing him that’s causing her to pull away. But when do you think it was that it all changed for Emma? When/what was it that caused such a big change in her mood?

What a great question.

Emma’s evolution over the course of 4x02 in regards to Killian is interesting indeed. In their first scene together we find she’s called him for help, which shows her continued reliance and trust in him, even if she wasn’t ready to take the plunge into a (be patient) romantic relationship yet. Their banter is friendly and fun, Killian bringing up the idea that their adventures are dates, while Emma is charmed, but not playing along. There’s still a barrier there.

By the end of the episode she’s in a very different place. She’d been trapped in a space with no way out and had almost frozen to death, she was feeling vulnerable both physically and emotionally. She gladly accepted his comfort, support and warmth. She was raw and her walls were down. In that moment she wanted him, she needed him and she let herself have him. No barriers.

I think what we see in 4x03 is Emma reacting to that quick transition and that vulnerability. Realizing that in such an unguarded moment she not only wanted him, but needed him, was scary. It highlighted how devastating it would be if she lost that. She’d spent her life not being able to rely or anyone or anything, so imagine how terrifying it would be for her to realize she was in that place with someone?

So I think, knowing Emma, it’s understandable that she reacted with a bit of irrational anger. It just gets worse through the episodes as he puts himself in dangerous situations, ironically trying to protect her. Perhaps she was mad that he’d made her care, that he’d made her need him, that he had made himself impossible for her to lose.
