I honestly think Lakan's character design is smart.
Lakan's character design was made to be sus AF. When he was introduced, either in the manga or in the anime, the first thing you would have thought was "this guy looks sleazy", or there is an immediate reaction of, "i hate this guy". Because he has a generic design for an actual sleazy, character, you know that character in any anime that with one look, you know he is the bad guy. It also adds that Maomao's response to hearing that he is nearby or she could possibly meet him was with wary or fear, in case of the anime, that one jumpscare scene of angry Maomao.
Tumblr media
And then we finally get to see him in action, he presented himself as this drunkard high official that seems like he would take advantage of anyone and everyone, he would take the woman he is infatuated with, with force. He invokes hate and disgust, it is fueling the 'hate bonfire'. we would never root for this guy, we hoped that he would never get Maomao ever.
Tumblr media
And then we get the chapter Balsam and wood sorrel, Lakan and Fengxian's history, we got slapped so hard with their reality, and all that hate bonfire got immediately doused in one swoop. He was the opposite of everything we saw him as the audience.
He never forced himself upon Fengxian, he loved and respected her too much for that.
He wanted to marry her, it was against his will to just up and leave her after they had their first night.
Finding out that Fengxian was gone broke him.
Tumblr media
She was the only person he could see her face and she was gone.
And then he met Maomao, he sees her face too, he described her as like a Wood Sorrel, the nail polish Fengxian used, this was their child and all he wanted was to be with her and raise her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After all that the biggest gut punch for us the audience is when he was about to choose the Courtesan to redeem, without getting Maomao's hidden message. Meimei bless her heart, she was also inlove with him but she still led him to Fengxian, after all those years and all the damage to her face due to Syphilis, he still recognizes her voice and her face, she was still the most beautiful person he has ever met.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We the audience judged him right away from the moment we met him, but all along we were so wrong in a way. He is just a doting father to his children and loves his wife no matter what.
If this doesn't invoke the iconic
Tumblr media
You need to check if you still have a heart 😂
He is admittedly sleazy when it comes to his job as a strategist, but that's besides the point cause that's his job lol..

Its almost strange how clean the UI for AC6 is while on mission. Like really strange when you consider how many games in the genre are obsessed with having their UI as bloated as possible.
Not that i mind lots of information at a glance, its just hard to do right sometimes (titanfall1/2 are good examples)
I think it really comes down to making room for the spectacle that is ac6 to explain why the ui is so simplistic.

Jean's interactions with people and how his relationship with Exy might affect his relationships. Thoughts?
Like... We all know how isolating and controlling the Ravens were, so it's obvious Jean's social skills might be pretty rusty. I can imagine him coming off as rude or cold to other people, but how do you guys think he interacts with his teammates inside the court now that the system he is so accustomed to is completely different?
Imagine he makes a mistake and he starts to have a panic attack, mistakes mean severe punishment in the Raven's Court and that's something that's not easy to forget at all, it's years and years of abuse and trauma, it makes me wonder what measures the members of the Trojans will take. I'm also pretty sure Jean is going to be pretty standoffish at the start, or at least pretty defensive (I'm calling it right now).
I'm very curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this, maybe someone else has already posted something on this already, so if you have tag me, I would love to read it!

I have a question for you fellow writers out there. So, an oc is an original character you come up with all on your own, hence the original aspect. However, does this mean that if you create a character based / inspired by another one, would that character still be an oc or no?
For example, in one of my drabbles I have these two twin brothers named Heart and Diamond, but they were heavily inspired by a story I read a few years ago who had these same brothers in their story as the main love interests, the names and all. I liked those brothers so much that I created my own version of them, but they still have some of the same mannerisms as the ones the other author wrote in their story. My version of Heart and Diamond however do not have the same backstory / family / origin story as the og Heart and Diamond from the other story. They have generally the same appearances, only some differences, their personalities are also different from the og story as well. In the og story Heart and Diamond were both equally chaotic, however my version has Diamond as the responsible older brother (however the silent type of scary you should watch out for), while Heart is the chaotic younger brother with poor impulse control (he’s the more upfront crazy while Diamond is the calm before the storm type yk). So, they are the same but the differences are palpable.
To summarize, my version of Heart and Diamond have different mannerisms / behavior, different personalities in a way, different backstories, and slightly different appearances. Any other changes are subtle but they make a big difference in differentiating the two stories in my opinion (the og author’s characters and mine).
So, would that make them my ocs in a way? I don’t think it does, but I would love to hear anyone else’s opinion about it if you can 😼✨✨🩷🩷🫶🏻🫶🏻

While I'm fuzzy on the origins of Catholic Jason content in canon (it was from something I never read and then forgot the name of it immediately), I do think that Catholic Jason is a concept rife with potential for angst and dark thoughts and heavy feelings. As a person who grew up Catholic and struggled mightily with her Catholic faith and reconciling it to her identity - and ultimately had a break from Catholicism as a result - I think it's interesting to look at what the culturally Christian/Catholic worldview does to people's perceptions of reality even when they haven't actively practiced that religion in years.
The biggest thing that comes to mind immediately with this is the emphasis that Catholicism places on "the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak" and "apart from God we can do no good." Growing up Catholic gave me a very strong sense that I was inherently bad, that I had to constantly fight my own nature and my own self in order to be truly good or acceptable in the eyes of God. The prevailing narrative about how ex-Catholics interact with faith, at least what exists for that within Catholicism, upholds this by insisting that ex-Catholics never really knew the truth to begin with and that they were too weak to keep up the fight for good. It's insulting, but also an interesting lens through which to see Jason's character arc and personal morality. If you already believe you're inherently bad and sinful and irredeemable, what's to stop you from doing things others find objectionable?

On occasion, as I am sketching up some of my favorite characters, I question myself about things like : would an utterly stern, stiff as a pin, military man in his sixties really do that? Or would this stone cold, extremely introverted loner, who kills for money and has absolutely no interest in getting close to someone stick that in his commanding officer on a daily basis and love every moment.
Just penis for your thoughts I guess.

What’s funny is I probably would have ended part One as it was, but the anti female Reader x Grabber and anti non-con content assholes got so bad around here that I was like, y’know what? I’m going to make it even more dark and vile, and I hope you vomit from it.
