tried to ask a coworker who is an older woman if she has a mobility aid for her Lupus that helps her to kinda like talk about it a bit and see what helps her and she told me a bit about how she used to have one but now she takes a buncha drugs.

She thanked me for asking and then I told her I'm thinking about getting a rollator for my fibromyalgia because standing for too long really hurts me and she told me not to because I'm "young" and if I get one I'll be "too reliant on it".

Woman you're reliant on drugs like. I guess I could be reliant on drugs like you??? Idk??? like ma'am idk about you but I'm trying to ease my pain without being high AF 24/7

I went "well my friend uses a cane for their chronic pain and we're the same age" and she didn't really say anything after that like

So I told my friend abt it and they came in after their shift and literally the second they left, the coworker comes up to me and is like "so what do they use the cane for???"

Like hm imagine younger people having disabilities, no waaayyyy oh my god no way, no way, no way no way! Younger people??? Being disabled??? Needing mobility aids too???? WORM????

I just read an article about something called "deliberate practice."

Which, in this article, is breaking a new skill down into "micro-skills." You practice each micro-skill, building up to the larger skill.

And this is presented as new and interesting advice rather than the basis of education since, basically, ever.

We don't throw equations at kids and expect them to learn.

We teach them the "micro-skill" of counting first.

I'm so conflicted. My siblings keep trying to get me to visit them, but I'm physically disabled and live with chronic pain. Sitting in a car for more than 20-30 minutes without adequate leg room is a recipe for a flare-up. My second eldest brother wants to host Thanksgiving this year, qbut he's two hours away. No matter how many times, or how thoroughly I explain this, not to mention my neurodivergent ass hates breaking routine, they always say shit like, "well, if you change your mind" or "cmon, do it for me?" Like, did you not hear the part where traveling causes me really bad chronic pain? Just ugh. Also, I'm Canadian, so Thanksgiving is next month

The reason I'm conflicted is because I want to see my siblings, I just don't want to put my body through that ordeal, but my 7 years older brother (the one wanting to host) just sighed and pulled the if you change your mind card. On the one hand, he could've been genuine, but he's also got a history of being manipulative, and now I just feel guilty
