im really not a fan of Rick's recent trend of recycling bits of his writing that got a good reaction the first time and acting as if that's a valid substitute for. actually bothering to write something original a second time around. It's clearly just there as a callback and nothing more.

It's "Nico's rage exploded" and "Percy's rage exploded" with the exact same paragraph formatting. It's CoTG having titles like "My Singing Makes Things Worse, and Everyone Is Totally Shocked" (reference to TLO, when Percy says he thinks his singing would cause an avalanche) or "Pretty Much the Best Good-Night Kiss Ever" (reference to TLO "Pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time") or any other number of near word-for-word references to the first series. It's Nico calling Percy "seaweed brain" in Un Natale Mezzosangue (when Percy says in TTC that anybody but Annabeth calling him that is a major offense). It's Nico and Will falling into Tartarus in TSATS word-for-word referencing Percy and Annabeth in House of Hades, despite it not making any sense for their characters (and otherwise being written as Percabeth 2™). It's the show making huge changes but keeping random "fan-favorite references" (mostly overusing "seaweed brain" and "wise girl" and emphasizing percabeth) only because they're popular in-jokes and considering that a faithful enough adaptation to market it heavily as such. It's lazy writing.

And it's a disservice to the series and to the audience, because it clearly shows Rick doesn't have original ideas anymore (though given all his writing is heavily derivative to begin with, it begs the question how much was original in the first place and how much he has difficulty when he doesn't have a structured mythological plot to work from) and that there is an expectation that the audience will just sit down and accept that behavior hook-line-and-sinker. Everything recently is clearly such lip-service to the audience, either in retcons that are overt speaking-to-camera acknowledgements of things he's been criticized on or wink-wink-nudge-nudges of community in-jokes that have no business in the actual text (see: over-use of ship names in canon). Especially since Rick tends to be about 5 years behind on the fandom uptake. It's just so disappointing to see.

it’s funny how i imagined the first “seaweed brain” to be this huge, built-up grand moment like a mic drop resounding in an empty parking lot, like horns blaring, the bass playing, a guitarist dropping the sickest solo, the camera panning then zooming and leah finally FINALLY uttering the two words that we were honest to gods yearning for and then in the show it just sorta... happens and i love it all the more for it because yeah percabeth is still just a silly little growing friendship with emotional intensity that is sweet and platonic and annabeth’s calling percy seaweed brain completely unironically as a nickname. the way they did it couldn’t have been more perfect.

"Percy?... y/n?" every possible movement in the tiny apartment ceased as the two of you blinked at each other in panic. you knew Percy should have stayed in bed with her.

"what do we do?!" he whispers agressively trying to clean frosting off of your face.

"hide?" you offer in a hushed voice.

"hide? we can't hide, she'll panic."

"play dead?! I don't know, Perseus."

"guys?" Annabeth rounded the corner into the kitchen, her eyes widen as she takes in the early morning mess. "oh-..."

"Happy birthday?" Percy offers weakly, although Annabeth seems disinterested in the sentiment, sleepily wrapping her arms around his waist.

"it's 2am." she whispers, like she too had been apart of the secret, "you smell like vanilla."

Percy laughs quietly. "I know, wise girl. we didn't mean to wake you."

The sight is absolutely beautiful, beguiling in the kind of why that only the two of them together could be. you snap a picture, Percy is smiling but not at the camera and Annabeth is already close deep sleep again.

"go back to sleep." you yawn. "both of you. I'll finish the cake."

"are you sure?" Percy asks a look of uncertainty on his face.

"yeah I'm sure," you touch a loose blonde curl tucking it out of Annabeth's sleeping face. "Happy Birthday, Blonde."

-Percy realized that he needed Annabeth [not necessarily in a romantic way] after she was kidnapped so once he got her back he was extra protective and she was so confused why he was suddenly stuck to her like glue

-Annabeth definitely visited him during the school year and she’d end up helping him with his homework because ‘holding up the sky doesn’t get you out of pop quizzes, seaweed brain!’

-Sally would make them cookies and they’d play mario kart. Percy wins everytime, but then it’s family game night and Annabeth beats everyone at monopoly in like ten minutes

-She sleeps over sometimes as well when Argus isn’t free to drive her back, and they pull mattresses out into the living room and sleep in front of the TV

-They watch ocean documentaries so Percy can laugh at what the fish are actually saying underwater and Annabeth can learn new things. Every time they wake up she reminds him he still drools in his sleep. Every time. 

- Sally teases Percy about her all the time

-I refuse to believe everyone at CHB actually follows the ‘no tech’ rule. [and in the lost hero Annabeth has a phone she lends Piper, so…] Annabeth sends Percy videos of what they’re all doing when he’s not there, and he saves all of them 

-Especially the one someone took of her in the strawberry fields at dusk, she’s looking away from the camera like she didn’t realize she was being recorded

-He thinks she looks like a princess 

-The reason she sent it to him was because Katie was strangling Travis with strawberry plants but that’s irrelevant <3

-They have the white streaks in their hair after holding up the sky and they both secretly like how they match but neither of them would admit it

-I’ve seen art floating around of them dying their matching streaks blue together, and let me tell you they stained the shit out of the bathroom. Blue dye on the walls and the floor and even the ceiling somehow. 

-He gets her a cowrie shell bracelet for her birthday and they swap their CHB bead necklaces sometimes [if yk yk]

Miles to Go Before I Sleep- A PJO Fanfiction

I couldn't sleep that night. I paced the room for two hours until late night as if there was something terrible was going to happen. I was worried sick--about Annabeth, about the war, about everything. At midnight, moonlight streamed through the hotel window as I sat, almost lifelessly on the bed, staring into nothing. Suddenly, I heard a creak in the door, and I was about to snatch riptide before I heard a whisper, "Percy? You awake?"

In the shadows, I saw the familiar figure of Grover, tired after a long day of attending to the satyrs. He sat down next to me on the bed, and we both stared at the wall in comfortable silence. For a moment, I could almost close my eyes and imagine that we were 12 year olds at Yancy again. "The Apollo kids are seeing you through the hotel surveillance cameras. They sent me to ask you to sleep" "Since you're the only one right now who I'll listen to?" ".....yep"

While Grover rambled something about him being my unofficial mom right now, I looked at my bedside table, and there it was. Pandora's Jar. Man, I wished the stupid thing would stop following me around, and right now, it wasn't the best time for me to want to resist opening it. Unfortunately, Grover read my emotions. "You want to open it, don't you?"

The question, which had always been on the back of my mind, really stung now that it was said out loud. I think Grover could see I was breaking down a little on the inside, and wrapped me in an awkward hug. "I-I do," it came spilling out of my mouth, my voice cracking. "It just feels like the Fates are giving me an opportunity instead of a challenge. I feel like everything around me is falling apart. I'm not good at handling war. If I give up to Kronos, he'd kill me, as long as I'd make him promise he wouldn't hurt you guys. It's just easier. It's better for everyone else" My eyes felt wet, and I pulled away quickly. Grover looked so lost, I immediately felt bad for making him worry about me. "Go to sleep, Percy," he said in a painful tone, as if I was a delusional grandpa who had gotten loose from the nursing home bed. Before I could say anything, he pulled out his reedpipes. Before I could protest, he started playing soft, sweet music and before I knew it, I was asleep.

In my dream, I was sitting with Annabeth in the strawberry field, while she had a book in her lap. Annabeth was smiling, her hair glinting in the sunlight. She was okay. We were okay. It was a sunny day and all the campers were having fun. I remembered this day; this conversation had happened two months before the war. Woah. That felt so far away.

"I finally found the greek version of this poem!" she said excited, her eyes sparkling, which gave me butterflies. "This poem is really famous for the last four lines, wait-wait, I'll read it out to you" She picked it up. "So the English version of these lines are: "The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep" I bumped her shoulder with mine. "Ok, nerd...what's the point?"

She rolled her eyes, but she was smiling. "It basically means that the poet wanted to die and found death a beautiful easy way out, but he realised he still had a duty in his life and that he still had a long way before his time to go, isn't that so poetic?" "I guess. You're better at this than me"

This didn't happen that day, but she opened her arms, as if about to hug me, probably due to Grover's magical reedpipe music, and for a second I felt elated that life felt livable again, before the ground opened up before she could, and I fell into endless darkness.

I woke up, shaking. I felt like I had been given a sweater in the cold before it got snatched away, leaving me back in the freezing winter. Grover was gone. I wanted to go back to sleep. I wanted things to be alright again. I wanted to see Annabeth happy and nerdy as usual and hug her. But sunlight streamed in through the window, and I forced myself out of the bed and went up the stairs to where Annabeth was.

When I walked up to her in the chair, my heart broke again. She looked so different from the dream. Her eyes were weakly staring at the view, she was shivering and her face was still a little gray. "Hey" she said. I checked up on her, talking to her about her health, which was slowly getting better, thankfully, but it didn't stop me from feeling guilty.

As I stared at her hopelessly, Pandora's Jar appeared on the table next to her. Annabeth studied my face. "We should put it in a place where it stays there"

I nodded my head in agreement. I took the jar gingerly in my hands. I looked out into the view from above. The whole city was in my sight. I saw demigods rebuilding the mortal's homes, some of which were damaged after the day's fight. I saw Nico rejoining a skeleton from his army's bones, with Will hovering curiously from a distance. "Is that a coccyx ?" "Gesundheit" If I died, he'd be the prophecy kid. I saw two tired aphrodite girls staring at a broken mirror, as if wondering where their life (and skin) started to break. I needed to keep them going. I needed to survive, I couldn't let them down. I needed to give them what they were fighting for. They were fighting for me. All my depression would have to wait for another day.

"It must be annoying," Annabeth said. "Don't you ever just want to open it?"

"Nah," I gave her my bravest smile, as I carried the jar to the door, where I would give it to be locked in a storage locker in the hotel. "I have promises to keep; and miles to go before I sleep"

It's a pregnancy reveal. The guy thought the baby outfit is for his cat.

“Shhh Roma, you have to be quiet,” she tells her meowing cat.

“Meow,” Roma continues.

Annabeth shakes her head, checking that the secret camera she’s set up is actually recording before quickly moving back to the breakfast bar stool. She plops down, still filled with nervous excitement and watches the door.

“Meow.” Roma rubs against her leg and Annabeth bends down to pick her up.

“You know something is up, don’t you?” she says, scratching the cat’s head. “Well, just keep it a secret for a little while longer.”

The sound of the door opening makes her and the cat jump.  Roma scampers off of Annabeth’s lap. They’d found her as a stray in New Rome (hence her name) and she’s still a little jumpy.

“Honey, I’m home!” her husband announces as usual. (He thinks it’s hilarious and she thinks it’s cute enough to not tell him it’s not as funny as he thinks).

“Hey,” she greets, standing up to peck him on the lips. “I got something for you.”

She hopes her voice doesn’t betray her nervousness, but thankfully Percy is already peering past her where the box is sitting on the counter.

“What is it?”

“See for yourself,” she replies, sitting back down as he approaches the box. As he looks at it, she shoots a quick glance to the hidden camera. Hopefully he doesn’t notice it too early.

Her heart is racing as he slowly opens the box.

Inside is a little yellow onesie with the words ‘small fry’ and a little graphic of fries. She thought it was cute and the kind of thing Percy would find funny all while remaining gender neutral.

She watches nervously as he holds it up and reads the words.

“Awwww!” is his initial reaction which is a little surprising, but sweet. The next words out of his mouth, however, genuinely shock her.

“Roma, come here!” he calls, turning around to find the cat.

For a second she’s frozen. All this nervousness and build-up and he thinks it’s for the cat? That’s when she bursts out laughing.

Percy turns to her, surprised at the outburst.

“What?”

She’s wheezing a little as she gets out the words. “It’s not for the cat.”

“It’s not? But then what—”

Annabeth Chase Jackson sees the moment it all clicks for him in real time.

All of a sudden he’s staring it at her wide eyes.

“Wait…” The word is a whisper as his eyes flick down to her stomach. She bites her lip as she nods.

And then she’s surrounded by his arms as he literally lifts her up and spins her around, making her squeal in surprise.

“OH MY GOD! Annabeth!” he shouts as he finally puts her down.

“Took you long enough, Seaweed Brain,” she teases, but she’s so ecstatic that her mouth hurts from smiling.

“Gods I love you,” he says, still holding her. He leans down for a kiss and she’s melting into him all over again. Relief and happiness flood her senses, he knows and he’s happy.  The cat is out of the bag.

Speaking of, that’s when Roma decides to make her presence known, meowing at them while pawing her legs.

Percy breaks the kiss with a chuckle (which leaves Annabeth chasing after his lips for a second) but the warmth in his eyes is mesmerizing as he looks at her.

And that makes it all the better.

You don't need to worry, I think the Percy Jackson tv show won't make it past season 1 tbh, have you seen the bad CGI in the trailer? If they are showing that now, it means the tv show is doomed. First trailers like this are meant to invite people in, sort of like the pick of the litter, in this case the film wheel. You seen Aries and that background. None of the trailer showed real action shots apart from fake backgrounds and characters looking into the camera. This shows the tv show has a low budget and these are the best they have. On top of that Disney have pushed forward the release at a time when they know their shows aren't being advertised. They are setting it up to fail. The warning signs are all there sadly.

I dont know shit about film, and I thank you for taking the time to send this ask, but season 2 is already confirmed (edit: no it wasnt. I was wrong) despite these 'warning signs.'

Not only that, but people will end up watching the show regardless. People still hate-watched the movies.

And either way, the main concern wasnt really the show butchering anything for people, it was really just about the show pushing the fandom into the mainstream, even if only for a few weeks/months. When shit like that happens, fandom culture like headcanons, cosplay, fanfic, and fanart often get put into the spotlight, then critizised. yk like when stranger things fans were being harrased for gasp cosplaying?? making fansongs?? how dare they. (very sarcastic, that end part.)

not only that but like, ppl regressing into old fandom discourse such as people hating rachel because she 'got in the way of percabeth' and things like that.

but yeah, tldr; i just really hate cringe culture and fandom discourse, which always ends up happening when fandoms get more popular, usually via adaptations. thank you for your 2 cents, but I really doubt that the show will do bad.
