Today i am mostly…
… watching some bullshit about Oak Island, because I can’t find the remote control and I’m too lazy to move.
This is a new variation of the comfortable inertia vs need to pee force that occurs when I’m lay in bed.
There is going to be a point at which my lack of tolerance for drivel is going to find the fracture point of my reinforced laziness structure. And then will come a catastrophic failure.

curating the tightest and most emotionally affective haul of Good Omens posts, luring all the cool mutuals in, before I 180 and just share drivel thoughts about how every song reminds me of them. also probably Michael Sheen's thighs

For a show that's supposedly about female empowerment, it's odd how every major female character is heavily influenced by men
Women whose fighting styles are based on men: Ruby (Qrow), Yang (Tai), Cinder (Rhodes)
Women whose ideologies are based on men: Weiss (opposition to Jacques), Blake (same as Ghira)
Women whose stories are almost completely intertwined with men: Nora (personal arc was figuring out who she was without Ren), Pyrrha (almost every scene with her prior to V3 was with Jaune), Emerald (almost every scene prior to v8 was shared with Mercury), Salem (motivated by Ozma's death, cursed by idiot brothers)
If the writing cast reflected the character cast, we probably wouldn't have this problem

I love that Azul in canon has the bullshit layered on perfectly to allow the audience to interpret him as either showing occasional sentiment/kindness just to facilitate the underlying agenda of malice and greed, OR unintentionally letting genuine sentiment/kindness slip past the facade and trying to convince everyone that it's purely greed when he catches himself, depending on how far back you wanna peel it

Y'all (general) really really need to exercise the block buttons more.
An opinion you don't agree with? Someone makes you uncomfortable? Something you don't like? Even just a person whose way of presenting information makes you uncomfortable (even if you agree with them)?
Block.
BLOCK.
B.L.O.C.K.
Look, I get it. I used to think seeing opinions I didn't agree with was important, that exposing myself was a way of staying informed. But finally, I hit a breaking point - I already knew the viewpoints I disagreed with, and seeing them every day was making me miserable.
I've blocked liberally since then.
And the most remarkable thing happened: I routinely see posts where lots of people are disagreeing with the same person...and I already have that person blocked.
Because the most insidious thing about letting myself see the negativity and things that made me unhappy all the time is that leaving it all there gave me the impression that there were a LOT of vocally awful people saying things that hurt me.
But there aren't.
There's actually a surprisingly small number of people who get off on trolling or are so marinated in hate that they have to spew it all around them, and when you block those people, the world gets much more peaceful.
You're not growing as a person by exposing yourself to rhetoric that hurts you. You're just hurting, which is exactly how those people want you to feel: they want you to be in as much agony as they are.
Don't give them the satisfaction.
BLOCK THEM.
(tbh I've hit the point that I think people who willfully, deliberately, loudly, intentionally don't block are engaging in a form of self-harm. seriously, you're not taking a noble stand, no one cares if you don't block except the people hurting you.)

What do you think gay men are attracted to in men that they can’t be attracted to in women?
It can’t be anything about femininity or masculinity obviously. That’s both sexist, and cultural so can’t be what drives men-only attraction.
It can’t be anything about stated identity because someone could lie just as easily as they could tell the truth in such a statement, and it makes no sense because homosexuality and heterosexuality exists in other species with no stated identities. It’s not like other animals without gender are all pan.
Saying idk it’s the vibes or some indescribable trait men have that women can’t but “I can’t explain” is a nonanswer.
Soooooooo what is it? Or do you think any sexuality but bi/pan is just cultural performance or an identity rather than an inborn orientation?

unpacking 'sinophone' and its sinophobic roots
so. it never occurred to me to just type "sino diaspora" into google before.
and google is like "oi!! you meant sinophone yeah? here's wikipedia on sinophone" and here's like the other top results
Tumblr media
I'm squinting. What the hell do you academics have against diaspora using the term diaspora?? I click.
inb4 this whole rant: I have no qualms with using sinophone as a language-family-use descriptor (like sinophone media), but coming from academia or as an academic field unto itself. but. the literature about wanting to use it as a demographics thing & separate it from "chineseness". just. looook if anyone knows that they're no longer like this let me know. with what im seeing, im having a bad faith moment
so... this is the academic that's hard pushed the term for sinophone.
Tumblr media
"crit on orientalism might be complicit for allowing Chinese intellectuals to call themselves victim under an 'unreflective' nationalism" & "but the flipside may be a new imperialism" yeah?? any more unsubstantiated claims???
What a joke!! Clearly only takes authority about Chinese history from western sources, like literally has the uncritical echo of "X country doesn't deserve territorial integrity" that literally fueled western imperialism, and not just of China. Treaty of Nanjing 1842 ringing no bells? Sigh. National sovereignty is the barest basis against overt imperialism where someone just comes over and declares where you live their colony!!! ... is this a test in how far can you stretch the definition of imperialism or colonization? lmfao, China invests in poverty-relieving measures like building houses and improving infrastructure out in Tibet, Guizhou, Xinjiang, and you have the audacity to call that colonizing?!? 我真无言了。
different article by the same person:
Tumblr media
laughable to think that the Chinese state even bothers to think I exist, let alone talk to me about my diaspora status. (I was born in the US)
also, people are really out there saying 'diaspora has an end date' huh
Tumblr media
here it is. here is the 'scholar' conflating American or western imperialism with things Big Bad Scary Red China does.
Clearly mixing up concepts of tributary system with colonialism, and acting like historically (other than Yuan era under Genghis) that ancient China/Chinese culture was expansionist, going around trying to conquer peoples and set up colonies. Admiral Zheng He would spit on you.
Comparing the spread of culture and language in Ancient China to the colonization and subjugation that the French/Belgium did in Africa, or the British Empire, or the Spanish and Portuguese in Latin America, is so blatantly dishonest. The indigenous people of Tibet, Inner Mongolia, and Xinjiang still speak their own languages and use their own scripts, and yes, they learn them in schools alongside the national language... which is Chinese!!! Yes the Hanyu writing system was adopted and adapted by many neighboring cultures in ancient times, but you literally don't examine WHY? The fluidity in its system: frequently non-Han peoples invented characters to suit their language, like there's even some Canto-specific characters that are in use today. Another reason that Chinese writing system was so popular was because two Sinitic language speakers who do not speak the same language could communicate through the same script. Yeah, Ancient Chinese scholars and dignitaries often had an insufferable elite-ness and superiority complex, but describing their attitude as subjugating and forcing other people to adopt their system? What a wildly malicious mischaracterisation!
Tumblr media
just... mask off, gringo butt-licker.
Please. where is the "Chinese containment" policy? The white papers reaffirming what the international community agrees, what Taiwan historically agrees (tho Taiwan held that it was the true capital/head of all of China), that Taiwan is part of China?? I know this article was written back in 2010s but are you seriously comparing American weapons deals and boots on the ground with Chinese military exercises in Chinese territory that haven't harmed a single civilian? "critical" my ass!
Tumblr media
gotta love the title of this one. yeah, I know it, I've seen it before. the Chinese or feminist binary, pick a side /s
Tumblr media
but hey in this piece she admits she's ignorant and unobjective and out of her league sometimes?
edit: found this:
Tumblr media
yeah that about seals it for me. anti"diaspora" sinophobe
#sino diaspora#diaspora#逆向种族分子#long post#chen yells at clouds. more at 10#sinophobia#sorry. personal rabbit hole. and taking things personally#we're committing ad hominem crimes today folks#sure chinese->lunar new year. im fine w that. but can you fucks stop trying to take away chineseness away from people who still ID as???#this person is literally doing the western empire's work of laying ground for sinophobia#can't tell if this academic is a grifter or actually serious lmfao#as if american chinese diaspora don't call americans 老美 and call ourselves 老中. i mean yes i call myself 老美 when in china but hello??#you cloak your 'expertise' in the lingua & clothes & rituals of western academics. just shake your colonized ass for white people more#reading this drivel makes me want to go into asian american studies & grab this and shake it around like a ragdoll.#but im reminded that western institutions and definitely academics unquestionably cite western sources w/o hesitation#but give anything coming out of China even just academics not anything gov related with skepticism. so it's probably a no-fly#yeah sure im a 'sinophone' but im also diaspora so fuck you. 你忘了你祖先你的族梗。你这个逆子找白人拜金去了。就你这样做榜样?让海外华裔立起来?丢死人。跟你的英文大白菜出卖同类吧#fuck you for saying that diaspora's connection to their heritage & culture are currently being severed& should be severed & studied as such#like literally uncritical of how exactly that happens. why so many diaspora have internalized racism driving them to scrub themselves of#their asianness heck even chineseness. try to scrub it all away but you still got an asian face. so fuck you#didn't look into 'asian american studies' much before but if it's a lot like this... well. 🤨#like this academic is so disconnected from our shared histories AHSIJIJDSIAJDAAAHAAHGGHGGG#+ my poasts#imperial core circus

Right so this has maybe already been said and it might also be complete bull but I just needed to get this out there. I'm just re-watching Reservoir Dogs and trying to think what it is about this movie that I apparently can't get enough of. Cause like it's set in this super macho, sexist, racist world that on the face of it should have absolutely no appeal for me and that part of it definitely doesn't. But then I realized that it's Mr Orange's story line. Him going undercover and learning to fit into that gangster world that's ultra-masculine where he basically has to learn to play a part but then gets so entangled in it because of Mr White that by the end of the whole thing he's basically become a part of it. To me, as a trans guy, the movie's world and its fucked up take on masculinity is sort of fascinating in a weird way but what really gets me about it is Tim Roth's dumb-ass performance in it. That idea of figuring out a way to fit into a world that is really different from your past experience, of learning the behaviours, the mannerisms that will make you pass as part of that world and being accepted into it by someone who is so fully entrenched in it (Mr White) has really got its hooks into me. Obviously it's a faulty metaphor in terms of relating it to transitioning but in combination with the score, the theatre-like atmosphere of the film, the oddly homoerotic relationship between Orange and White and some of the whack dialogue it is, unfortunately, one of my favourite movies. That and the weird gender envy that Tim Roth gives me for unclear reasons...

Headcanon that c!wilbur is stinky regardless if he takes a shower or not.
first off this is VERY funny, secondly. cracks knuckles. boy oh boy do i know how to make it Worse
there’s always gonna be that little bit of l’manbur in him, right? he’s always gonna be a *little* upset about not being presentable. it’s not much of a choice post revival— ESPECIALLY if you think about the prospect of decomposition/incomplete revival, which isn’t in my personal design but the idea of a slightly off, slightly inhuman body that is never going to be ‘perfect’ to him ever again is SO GOOD—
the best he can do is joke about it, and i doubt he’d try to do anything to stop the permeating stench of rot and smoke and dirt that follows him everywhere after the first few times he tries, realizing it was futile. hell, that’s *if* he does more than like. Sit In A River About It. revivebur is allergic to self care
just. damn bro. the idea of him taking that as kinda a physical manifestation of him as a person, an extra ‘well i guess i just can’t be helped’ and internalizing it. letting it feed into the idea of a new ‘worse’ him that he runs with over the course of the burger van arc…..
im very very tired so my responses to these headcanons probably wont be coherent but im gonna TRY

Re: previous posts regarding most authors being older folks.
I recently had a comment on a fic saying that my fic was so good it could have been written by the materials original creator. The reader could hear the voices and the story was grounded in reality.
I wept.
For 12 years that had been what I had been writing toward, what I had hoped to achieve but thought I never could. It's silly, but the sentiment is true. Practise makes better, but experience does too. I could not have written this fic as a teenager even if I had all the practise hours in.
Past me does not have solo travel experience, doesn't understand a lick of religion or mortgages. Past me doesn't understand the varying differences in romance and that a long standing relationship is more domestic than it is head over heels. Past me doesnt know that disability isnt the end of the world, or that you need to look right at a crossing first when you're in the UK. Past me doesn't know that life doesnt end at 30, but that that is where it gets fun. Past me doesn't know about peak and off peak hours, or the difference between TFL and literally everything else. Past me wasn't capable of writing Broad Yorkshire, which I have picked up largely on accident. There's so much nuance in life that you don't get until you're somewhere in your mid to late 20s, or even later. Past me doesn't know that, they've not lived it.
I never wanted to get older, when I was younger than I am now. But now? I like it, I love it. Is my life experience always happy? Absolutely not. But has everything Ive seen and heard given my writing nuance? Definitely. And I love writing. I've only come to love it more now that I have this life experience. It's made me wiser in a human way.
And I love that.

never have i wished to know polish so badly as now when i am watching 1670. the english subtitles are good at conveying some of it and, knowing russian, i can kiiinda imagine how things were phrased originally, and a lot of the humour is in the props and the music and the visual compositions, and i’m already laughing tearing up giggling slapping my table, but still. if i could understand polish this show would kill me with how good it is

A lot of the time I can’t even tell what I’m looking at when I see ads on tumblr.
Most of them are borderline incoherent and read more like a cry for help or the diarrhea of a madman!
*ORANGE PEEL!!!!!!!!!*
And that’s on a good day!
