To be honest I wish I had chosen a different photo now that I saw the finalists. I had several that were of similar composition but how would I know what they were looking for. I also had some I took from the weekend after it closed I might have chosen instead. Oh well.

I wasn't going to bother posting it but here it is.

Submit a photo highlighting your connections to nature in Southern California. Suggestions include your favorite parks, beaches, hikes, dive sites, wildlife viewing, or even your own backyard…anywhere that you escape to nature.

Submissions must be received no later than April 10, 2023. The top ten will be featured in an exhibit at the Aquarium! Visit pacific.to/25photocontest to submit your photo.

Hi Anon, the event is this weekend. There were supposed to be 10 winners, but now it's only 5. Still waiting to hear if Sam will be there, as in here, in Los Angeles for it. I DO have a source for this, so if Sam shows up, they'll tell me, and then I'll post about it. We will know for sure because I have this source. Stay tuned...

Young Nature Photographers | Second Place

A day-old sandhill crane chick peeks out from its parent’s protective feathers at a park in Michigan known for its abundance of waterfowl. John Fortener, now 16, had gone to the park on a rainy April morning knowing that eggs from the area’s nesting sandhill cranes would be ready to hatch.

Using a zoom from a safe distance, he was delighted to see the tiny head pop in and out of this feathery tent. His advice to other young photographers? “Get outside as much as possible and just watch.”
