Post-Zero Hour Legion of Super-Heroes Reading List.

I am ever so delighted that since I finished the MAIN series I have had 4 people in my DMs wanting to know an official reading order. This is amazing. So for those who might be a little more message shy here is a list for you to take, keep, and read.

You might see this order and think it's weird, trust me it, it is. The reason why it is weird is because 1.) the Zero Hour event in 1994 rebooted the team in the middle of two books, so the creators drafted up a new start with a #0 issue and 2.) LOSH had two books per month.

Anyway, here is your primary PZH LOSH guide.

Legions of Super-Heroes (1989) has been shortened to "LOSH 1989" for simplicity.

Primary Run

LOSH 1989 #62

Legionnaires #19 then you switch back and forth and the comics will guide you where to go at the end of each issue. You do this all the way until the series ends. Don't forget the annuals!

Teen Titans/Legion Special - The "end" of their run

Final Crisis: Legion of the Three Worlds - They are revealed to be alive still! Bart and Kon are brought back from dead.

Titans/Legion of Super-Heroes: Universe Ablaze - Read this sometime in the last 10 issues of the primary run.

Legion: Secret Files

Legion of Super-Heroes Secret Files

Showcase '96 Issues #11 & #12 - LOSH '89 should tell you when to jump to these two, you will read them when Querl and the lost Legionnaires are stranded in 1996.

Genesis 1997 - The Genesis Event, you will read this sometime during the time the Legionnaires are stranded in the 90s.

Inferno 1997 - A mini for Inferno, you should read this after Inferno breaks from the stranded Legionnaires in the 90s.

Adventures in the DC Universe Issue #10 - Just a fun little story.

There are many other appearances of this team in the 90s comics, particularly when they are stranded in the 1990s. Their book is particularly good however at informing you where to go, and if they appeared somewhere else.

I didn't like Mekt much but I do hate seeing him only utilized as a villain, as if Legion Worlds didn't happen.

Where is the Mekt who admitted that he was wrong to let his loneliness and jealousy dictate how he acted? Where is the Mekt that worked to be better? Where is the Mekt who welcomed Ayla home and put himself in harms way to help her save their parents farm? Where is the Mekt that delighted at the idea of seeing Garth again and was sad to hear he wasn't really coming back?

I don't know. Maybe it's just me but Mekt works so much better as a character of redemption and reconciliation than as one who stays bitter and antagonistic. He's more interesting that way

#this is just about post zero hour mekt i dont know much about other mekts' #losh #legion of super heroes #mekt ranzz #inkytalks #AND I AM NOT EVEN SAYING YOU AHVE TO LIKE HIM #OR THAT HIS SIBLINGS *HAVE* TO FORGIVE HIM #this still works if THEY are still bitter to HIM for what he did #BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE A RIGHT TO BE #but he doesn't deserve the watered down one dimensional asshole characterization I've seen in a few fics that are ABOUT pzh #my ideal rannz sibling dynamic is ayla being bitter and hostile to mekt garth being wary and hurt and at first unable to be around mekt #while mekt himself just feels so guilty for what he did and desperate to make up but willing to give them however long they need #even if that means he doesnt get to be in their lives ever again... #and then eventually they fall into a comfortable normal that is still not fully recovered and still bitter but they can #have breakfast togther without incident #they can talk about things like the weather or town gossip #they can work together on the farm in comfortable silence #ayla slowly grows less suspicious of mekt and begins to trust him a little more #garth stops feeling like mekt is going to lash out at any given moment and can spend time around him alone #things arent great and they probably wont ever heal all the way their relationship will always be strained #but he's trying and thats all they care about #and things are kinda sorta okay

So. This new "ultimate" DC universe that Scott Snyder will be heading. I heard that it may spawn from Zero Hour and you know what else spawned from ZH? The reboot Legion. My fav Legion. Yes, that's right; they may be coming back from wandering nowhere finally. And it fits with the 30-year anniversary of ZH too. Please Scott Snyder, please let a good writer bring them back.

Man I wish you had read LoSH (specifically post-zero hour aka reboot aka 90's LoSH) because Thad getting to meet Jenni and Brainiac 5 would have been SO INTERESTING. Jenni because she's his cousin if you extend their relation to that through Bart and I think she'd be really interested to meet more family that she hasn't gotten to meet yet. Querl because he is actually already friends with Bart and they could bond over the "My having of an evil ancestor is constantly sabotaging my life" thing. Also I think they have the same sense of humor-

i have heard this from so many people at this point that the fact i havent read LoSH at this point may be a crime. i gotta get around to it one of these days (and probably become obsessed)

Petition to have Hank meet the LOSH sometime in Pride Month. Pre Crisis Element Lad, Invisible Kid I, Chemical King, Power Boy, and Gravity Kid. And Post Zero Hour Invisible Kid I and Brainiac 5.

These guys are either canon mlm or intentionally queer coded by creators back in the days before they allowed gay superheroes.

Post-Zero Hour Kon tie-ins is actually how Mon-El, like. Makes his return to the DCU. Kon and Bart spent a good amount of time with the Legion

Kon and Bart spending time with the Legion was post their deaths right? Hm, I'll have to read tt03 and their solos before I get to that...but I'll check out Mon's stuff with Kon (I'd heard they were pretty close tbh & some people were upset cause of how Mon was portrayed with Jon (it's always Jon) because of that & they felt it butchered his character) as it comes up! Mostly reading for Jenni and hijinks cause they seem like a fun bunch but I saw some of Mon w Clark & in the little yj-losh crossover and figured he looked interesting. Thank you, I'll check it out!

Oh uuuh I feel like I don't have much to say that hasn't been said already!

I'd mostly point you at this post and this post. So nothing new that hasn't been stated by most long time fans, I'm afraid haha. The basics!

I think most people really just focus on pre and post zero-hour (so preboot and reboot). Mostly Levitz era stuff (so, circa 1980s) for the preboot, and pretty much the entirety of the reboot. I suppose this is a good time to also recommend the LoSH Archival site?

I've recently discovered the wonder that is LoSH comics and Brainiac 5 is my favorite character by far, so I was wondering if you had any favorite arcs, issues, or series where you like his story specifically, as from the comics I have read so far he is often in it very little

I just love everything post-zero hour the most lol. I'd say that specifically everything related to him and his mom in post-zero hour is my favorite

Don't know if you already read them, but for TPBs look up Legionnaires (2 volumes) collected in 2017 and 2018. It's the post-Zero Hour reboot of the LSH, and Mark Waid did a lot of the writing. Also it's a respectfully done reboot: you can learn about the characters as you go if this is your first LSH series, but there's plenty of references that previous readers could recognize.

I surprised too to see it was there! I couldn't buy them but I took pictures of them to show it to you ^^D

I've been wanting to read LoSH for a long time but as you said, it's kinda complicated. There's been like 3?? different reboots of them, there's Zero Hour, Pre-Zero Hour -I think these are the names of the reboots- and then the whole time travelling thing of course (and more probably sjhdad) etc...

But I want to start reading LoSh! I really like Mark Waid's writing, and since The Flash was the only ongoing series I was reading and I don't anymore (at least until barry comes back but i'm losing hope every day ldfkjfa) and I just have more free time in general.

I also want to learn more about Jenni so I think it would be a good starting point for that as well?? Because I don't think she's been in every incarnation, she definitely wasn't in Bendis' run I know that...

Fourboot: 24 appearances (so far).

Conclusion: DC sucks at sustaining one of their oldest franchises because they won't stop adhering to non-sensical time travel rules.

We got the multiverse back, just make'em alternate universes.

Always wondered, who are your favourite Legionnaires? (Aside from Supergirl and the other supers as I'm assuming them as a given)

There was a whole lotta Legion last year! XD I’m still making my way through the Post-Zero Hour stuff, I wanna say I’m on issue...102 for LoSH, and 57 for Legionnaires.

As for my favorites--mMMmmm, tough question! They change depending on the run/era, so if forced to (slightly) narrow it down (and yep, assuming the Supers are a given):

Great Darkness/The Curse: Brainy, Blok, Dawnstar 5YL: Brainy (again), Tenzil, Cham, Andromeda*   Post Zero Hour: Ferro, Sensor

*I figure Laurel is different enough from Kara to include her on the list.
