How They Confess

For the anon who wanted to know how the characters would confess their feelings, and how they would react if the reader confessed first.

This includes Jack, Will, Lizzie, James, Beckett, and Barbossa.

Jack:

Jack isn’t one to make a grand show of things, and if he’s to confess, it’ll be in a moment of simplicity. You’ll be curled up together in his cabin, warm and drowsy, soft light shining out from the lanterns. He can only admit it to you when he’s completely relaxed—he can hardly admit it to himself sometimes, how much he loves you. But he says it softly in your ear, and you’re more pleased than surprised, already tangled together in the sheets. Your brain’s a bit fuzzy anyway, and the full weight of it wouldn’t hit you until the next morning. But by then he’s up and out on deck, and you’re left with the knowledge that he really does love you after all. 

If you’re the first to confess, Jack would be taken aback. He doesn’t expect you to love him, not really, so it comes as a bit of a shock to his system. It would take him some time to process, too, and he has to do some serious introspection before he can say it back. Love is a heavy thing in his eyes, and he’s not about to mess it up. 

Will:

Though he can be bashful, Will is completely unashamed of his feelings for you. If you’re of the same social station, he’ll simply tell you how he feels by taking you out for a walk along the oceanfront. If you’re too far above him on the social ladder, he’ll keep his feelings to himself, though they shine through with all the things he does for you to make life easier and more convenient. 

If you speak up first, Will’s a little embarrassed, but in a good way. He feels a little guilty for not saying anything, but quickly gets over it; he’s just happy you feel the same, and that you’re comfortable enough in your affection to tell him. He likes that you can own it—not everyone is attracted to blacksmiths. Besides, hearing the words from you is just the confidence boost he needs. 

Elizabeth:

Elizabeth wants to make her confession as perfect as she can. She does it over a nice dinner, just the two of you, and she’s pulled out the candles for the occasion. She’s a romantic at heart, and wants to have the right atmosphere in which to tell you how she feels. She’s really one for the aesthetic. It’s honestly rather cute, the effort she puts in, and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t enjoy it. 

If you’re the first to confess, Lizzie is just delighted. She has butterflies for days, and be prepared for all the secret little messages dictated by high society. I’m talking fan-signals, flower language, the whole package. Even though she loves you earnestly, and even though you know both know it, she’s absolutely going to make the most of the courtship process and all it entails.

James:

We all know how awkward James is about confessing his feelings. He’s been rehearsing for days, and is almost too anxious to do it in the first place. He’s afraid of coming off too strong, and overanalyzes every interaction you’ve had together. He ensures the setting is both pleasant and proper, and though it may seem a little stiff, you’re aware the confession is genuine. That being said, the moment you indicate the feeling is mutual, his composure cracks and he gives you that huge smile he tries so hard to hide. 

If you beat him to it, he’d be shocked. Not only is he surprised that you made the first move, which is so expected of him, but he honestly had no idea you felt that way about him. It takes him a good long time to find the right words to tell you he feels the same, and you’ll have to be patient as he recovers from his astonishment. 

Beckett:

This man is never, ever, going to admit to loving you. He won’t even let himself think about his affection for you. In all truth and honesty, he’s terrified of his feelings, seeing them as a weakness that someone will figure out and exploit. He’s also afraid you won’t feel the same way. How could you? It would take a serious moment of vulnerability—either when something awful happens to you, or when you show him honest tenderness. Either way, it’s completely unexpected and almost unbelievable…until you see the fear in his eyes and realize it’s the truth. 

If you make the first move, Beckett doesn’t think you’re serious. He’s willing to play along, but he figures you want something from him. So he brushes it off, though your words linger in his mind for days after. He’s probably in his office doing paperwork when it hits him that you were being completely serious, and he’s absolutely overcome by it. He makes sure to explain himself when he sees you next; he just didn’t think someone could feel that way about him. 

Barbossa:

Barbossa is, if nothing else, a gentleman at heart. Again, this will likely be a dinner confession, though Hector isn’t nearly as anxious as Elizabeth might be. He’s been around a while, and he’s really only going to say anything if he’s fairly certain you’re interested. He also isn’t offended if you reject—he completely understands why someone wouldn’t want to be with him. He’s relaxed about the whole affair so you never have to feel nervous over any of it. If it turns out you are interested, he’s going to treat you with perfect curtesy and warm affection.

If you’re the first to say anything, Hector’s a bit smug. He might be slightly sheepish that you beat him to it, but overall, he’s happy to hear you say it. He’ll tease you over it in good humor, though he knows you can give as good as you get. He’s secretly happy to hear you say it because he’s insecure about his age.

Unpopular opinion but I never really wanted another full on POTC movie. Not because of any of the real life Johnny Depp drama but I felt like the last one was a good ending and full circle moment for the Jack Sparrow character.

I’d be way more interested in a Disney+ series about Will and Elizabeth readjusting to married life in the city after ten years apart/at sea while apparently being haunted by the ghost of Davy Jones.

POTC characters if they had horses

This is now officially a series! Though the next installment is not yet scheduled, inspiration will most likely strike one night, like lightning to a lone tree. Unfortunately, some pictures are not the specific horse, though they do all resemble the idea behind the choice.

Do excuse the various lengths, I had more ideas for some than others. And my skills at moodboards, I am but a youngling in the skill.

Elizabeth Swann

A chocolate Hackney stallion, mostly sweet though also the type to feign coming when called before running away. It was an active young thing that was a gift initially meant for Governor Swann. Elizabeth fell in love with the horse when it almost got away from its holder, at first presentation. Her father was nervous about her having such an energetic animal be responsible for his daughter’s safety, though he quickly realised the love was reciprocated. Its character only part of the reason why she loved that horse, most of it being the freedom it offered. The first time she let it go at a full gallop is the moment she fell in love with the speed, and the muscles beneath her, tensing and relaxing with each stride. She would rarely confess to loving that horse more every time it resisted orders, snorting and pawing in disagreement when they tried to control it by the reigns. She named it Neptune, though she often referred to him as her First Mate.

Governor Swann

A dark bay Hackney gelding, a sweet sweet thing. The type to nudge you for affection, and have enough confidence in its rider to make them a better rider. The Hackney was, and still is, a sought-after breed, known for its trot, as well as its docile and friendly composure. Although the Governor is a skilled rider, having been instructed in all matters of high English society, he still preferred the convenience of a carriage, than riding on a horse. Over time, he found himself growing to love going on rides with Ambassador, but even more when he accompanied Elizabeth on rides. (Though he only ever went in full gallop to hear her laugh from happiness).

Will Turner

A molly mule, though very pretty, he called Hellebore. Named in honour of Rosie, Will initially got the mule with a forge he bought when Elizabeth and him could settle. The last owner left it with the deed, saying he “didn’t know the last time he’d find the thing useful.” Hellebore however, was quick to warm to Will’s soft voice and gentle pats. Mules are known to be smart, social and affectionate. They also tend to be very protective, so the fool who tried to steal from Will’s workshop got a big surprise when Hellebore bit him and trapped him in a corner. The commotion and braying got Will’s attention quickly, and when he arrived, he found the robber trembling in fear. After that, Hellebore became a loyal companion, often nudging Will for more affection, regardless of his half-hearted attempts to push it away while he worked.

Jack Sparrow

A dark bay Spanish Mustang mare. It was left behind by a Spanish general, and Jack stumbled upon it when hiding running from the law. He didn’t know how to approach such a creature, but he found he didn’t have to. It followed him around, until he relented and took care of it. The next night, it came to his rescue when a man Jack owed money to cornered him in an alley. It came charging at the man, snorting and pawing at the ground. When the man attempted to side step, it gave out a big neigh before pushing the man aside. Jack had no other choice than to be grateful, and he named it Maelstrom for it temper. Spanish Mustang are known for their intelligence, their curiosity and their sense of self-preservation. Skills that are most useful when in proximity to Jack Sparrow.

Hector Barbossa

A black Irish Draught mare, intimidating but loyal to a fault. will kick at anyone that tries to steal from the many bags it often holds can often be find stealing apples. Generally easy-going, they need a firm hand to push them to use their athletic abilities, but they are known to be surprisingly agile. Barbossa named her Themis, after the Greek goddess of Justice and Wisdom.

Joshamee Gibbs

A New Forest mare, named Scallywag. It is intelligent, good-natured and sure-footed, and it stumbled upon a drunk Gibbs one night. It jumped over Gibbs, and the first thing he saw upon waking up was the very close, soft nose of a pony sniffing him. He startled, and the pony snorted in his face. At first, Gibbs tried to shoo it away, but the horse was persistent, pushing its fuzzy nose into his hair, and he would have found the gesture endearing, if it did not grab his hat and run away with it. He looked for the horse for a few days, before he found it, moving its head all around and slapping the hat on nearby bushes. In the end, he did find it endearing.

James Norrington

A stunning silver Turkoman stallion. As a military man, James needs to trust his horse. Turkoman horses, now mostly extinct, are renowned for their stable feet, robust body and stamina. They are intelligent, and often form a very strong bond with their owners. James Norrington would be the kind of man to want a reliable horse, willing to wait months for one to be imported. The first few months together, James had to calm it a few times, before it knew it could trust. More often than not, talking to it and pressing a firm hand to its neck sufficed to calm the horse. Now, he's the type of horse to finish a race alone, and win. It has proven itself time and time again, often the calmest amongst the cavalry. He took a few weeks before deciding on a name, finally settling for Aquila.

Cutler Beckett

A white Thoroughbred stallion, it looks bigger than it really is, though with Beckett's stature it's no wonder. Generally, thoroughbreds are known to be strong and have good stamina, but tend to have nervous and stubborn spirits. Riding a thoroughbred requires a firm but knowledgeable hand, and is often the measure of a excellent rider. Lord Beckett called it Triumphant Venture.

BONUS

Davy Jones

If he had another creature at his command, but horse-inspired, it would be a kelpie. HOWEVER! I do think it would have a few lights in its mane, like an anglerfish. It would look like tiny fireflies stuck in seaweed, and might just be enough to attract curious sailors. The kelpie would generally consume all souls, but would bring some back to Davy Jones. I didn't do a moodboard for this one because it gave me nightmares!

• Good thing he had something to distract him from pouting over the lack of liquor in his hand

• Namely you. Starting bar fights. And drinking rum straight from the barrel

• Jack hasn't seen you drunk a lot, but oh boy is it a sight

• "Cap'n!" hiccup "How's it—" hiccup "—going Jacky!"

• Ended up having to haul you out of the bar after your third barrel. Was starting to worry about alcohol poisoning. And as a pirate, as a pirate by the name of Jack Sparrow, that's saying a lot

• "You can really drink your weight, can't you, darlin?"

• "Why yes, I would like some tea cakes governah!"

• The second Jack sets you down on a hammock on The Pearl, you're out, snoring and mumbling things in your sleep. About what he's not sure, but at one point he thought he heard his name

• Next time the crew goes out for a drink, he'll have to get someone else to look after him than you. If he's half as difficult as you to deal with when he's drunk, Jack was starting to rethink all those nights that started in a bar and ended with being dragged to his cabin

wasteland lovers: lucy/charlie/cooper relationship headcanons, fallout (tv).

summary: as the tile suggests, these are headcanons for the poly relationship between my fallout oc, charlie alongside lucy maclean and cooper howard!

warnings: 18+, minors dni. wlw relationships + f/m relationships. f/f/m relationships. poly dynamics. fluff. mentions of swearing. semi-smut (kinda?? i don't go into full on detail but it's there).

notes: these were super fun to make and I hope to make more for these three in the future, hope y'all enjoy!

First things first: top or bottom? I headcanon Lucy to be somewhat of a switch, Charlie is a top but doesn't mind being submissive here and there and Cooper's a full-on top.

The two biggest tropes in this relationship include love at first sight and enemies to lovers. The former is between Charlie and Lucy, Charlie had heart eyes for the vault dweller from the moment she entered the shop and the ladder is with Charlie and Cooper, such a hot head Cooper was with her.

While Charlie and Lucy got along great, it was hard for Charlie and Cooper as they'd bicker 24/7, it was practically their love language for a time.

The first time Charlie confessed her feelings for Lucy was during a shootout oddly enough, think like the chaotic marriage between Elizabeth and Will in POTC. It wasn't ideal but, it was so worth it for the two.

Charlie's love confession for Cooper was quite the opposite, calm funnily enough. Overtime, Cooper warmed up to both she and Lucy and Charlie had realized that and figured it'd be a perfect time to tell Coop how she really felt about him.

It was during a night watch, Charlie couldn't sleep while Lucy was sleeping like a baby. Cooper was the one to keep watch and decided to join him which later turned into her confessing her feelings.

Cooper didn't think he'd ever love again but, it did happen with both Charlie and Lucy.

Cooper has pet names for both the girls, those being: My girls, Sweetheart, Darlin', the usual. Charlie will go for calling Cooper Coop and Lucy 'Luc at times.

Both Cooper and Charlie are big spoons while Lucy is a little spoon though, she does like being big spoon with Charlie from time to time.

Charlie sometimes likes to wear Cooper's hat, she think it looks sweet on her (Cooper and Lucy couldn't agree more).

Love Languages? Charlie's is physical touch, Lucy's is affirmations and Cooper's is a mixture of physical touch and quality time (the last one especially the more he grows fond of the two women).

Charlie loooooves giving cheek and forehead kisses, Lucy likes the cheek kisses and Cooper prefers neck and regular mouth kisses.

Lucy likes wearing Charlie's jacket from time to time, if she's off on a supply run on her own or just feels like wearing it, it reminds her that she has a part of Charlie with her, she too also likes wearing Cooper's hat here and there.

The girls love holding each other's hands no matt what is they're doing or wear they are, they'll hold onto each other's hands.

Both girls don't mind PDA but Cooper's a little eh about it, he's possessive of the two and if PDA is involved, it's usually as a way of showing that they're his women, other than that he usually prefers private displays of affection.

Lucy likes to hug her partners from behind, it comforts both Charlie and Cooper.

While Cooper does get hot-headed, it's usually Charlie that calms him down easily. She knows what it's like to get easily frustrated and worked up but overtime, she's gotten better at trying to stay calm and she passes that calmness to Cooper.

If there's a nice, non-poisonous lake, Charlie and Lucy will usually bathe there together, they'll laugh and clean each other off and just stay in the presence of each other.

Charlie and Lucy also like to clean up each other's wounds and bandage each other up. Coop will also engage in bandaging the two up from time to time.

As mentioned earlier, Cooper can get quite possessive, he's VERY possessive of his girls. If someone bats an eye or even dares to think about touching his girls, he's on their asses quite quickly.

While Lucy is more a what the fudge kind of girl, both Charlie and Cooper have quite the mouth of cusses from fuck, shit, motherfucker, etc.

Cooper has a rope kink through and through, need I say more.

Cooper does catch the girls touching themselves and each other from time to time and, when he does, they're in for a wild night.

He loves giving them dirty talk.

He'll worship their bodies like crazy and is only soft around them, he'll praise the hell out of them too.

Calling them 'good girls' as he rawdogs them into oblivion.

He's into soft BDSM with them as well, that is if they can find the right stuff to work with. they do manage.

Afterwards, both Charlie and Cooper will cuddle into him, he allows it and doesn't mind.

Overall, the three work well together as a poly couple, they balance each other out and equal love is spilt all around.

notes: this probably isn't the best but I had fun writing these headcanons out and, as stated earlier, I hope to do more headcanons for these three in the future. anywho! feel free to spill your thoughts below if you'd like or whatever!

Reader insert (or OC insert or whatever) has a very unique and pirate like hairstyle. Their hair is messy, kinda dirty, and completely adorned with beads, golden or silver clips; basically like from Pirates of the Caribbean. //clearly it’s obvious I’ve just recently watched it-//

They don’t necessarily have to BE a pirate (but they could if you’re interested in that path ;})but I think that since hair is seen as something very important- especially with elves and dwarfs- people would have a lot of emotions towards it such as curiosity or fascination. Thank you!

ARAGORN, LEGOLAS AND BOROMIR WITH AN S/O WITH MESSY HAIR

ARAGORN

You know how general consensus in LOTR fandom is Ranger Aragorn's hair being infinitely better than his hair the moment he became king? I think he would have the same idea for you if you decided to do your hair and tamed it even if it was just for one time. Untamed messy hair is nothing to him, though the beads and clips you would put on caught his attention and he would ask you where you got them from.

So if your hair ever stayed flat for just one second and he saw it, his reaction would be the gif I put. He never imagined you with tidy hair that the sight looks so strange and he honestly prefers you with the messy hair everyone knew you had.

LEGOLAS

You and Legolas would be seen as a bizarre pairing to others around you. Can you imagine an elf with perfect hair being with someone who has the opposite of perfect hair? He seems the kind to me to make fun of others with extremely messy hair at first until he matured in that sense, but he will never not find messy hair bizarre. He couldn't take his eyes off the beads and would never admit that he wants his own to put on his own hair. As an elf, he's bound to think those beads mean something significant, and is genuinely confused when you tell him they don't mean anything and you put them for your own enjoyment. Also Legolas is bound to feel curious and touch your hair whenever he felt like it.

BOROMIR

He's in the middle, between Aragorn and Legolas. He's not as used to people with hair that can't be tamed as say Aragorn, but he knows they exist unlike Legolas and doesn't have dramatic first impressions about it. He's a soldier and spent so much of his life defending Gondor and they don't come home with hair that looks like it just had conditioner on, lol. He'll assume you do a lot adventuring and your own things that don't leave enough time to comb your hair and doesn't ask a lot of questions, if any, but was interested when he learned how your hair just can't stay flat no matter how long you brush it. I can see your hair becoming his favorite part about you over time, however.

i know there was a lot going on in at world’s end, but i’m really stuck on norrington’s sacrifice

like. i’m well aware that his death = redemption here. but there is a world where stubborn, capable, clever james norrington survives elizabeth’s escape on the flying dutchman. imagine for a second, if you will, just for one second, that he eschews his pride once more. he duels with bootstrap bill and davy jones just long enough to escape to the empress with elizabeth.

then james norrington goes to shipwreck cove, witnesses the inauguration of Pirate King Elizabeth Swann. he serves as her adjutant, having finally picked a side. james doesn’t have to be happy to be working with pirates, but damn if he didn’t outplay everyone to give beckett the heart of davy jones, one of the finest acts of trickery in the franchise, and hasn’t felt like himself since. damn if he won’t protect elizabeth and grieve her father with her, because weatherby swann was a friend to him until the end. damn if he doesn’t love the swann family. damn if he won’t stand right by elizabeth’s side, king of the pirates or not, to finally tell cutler beckett off.

imagine for a second, just a wee little second, that james norrington fights with elizabeth swann aboard the black pearl in the final fight. he’s a veteran captain and can help barbossa at the helm when the shit gets messy, and, as we know, shit does get messy when the dutchman’s crew starts to board. james is best man at elizabeth and will’s impromptu pirate fight wedding. james helps barbossa keep the pearl afloat in the midst of calypso’s malestrom. recall for a moment that he, y’know, destroyed a royal navy ship and lost his commission after chasing the pearl into a hurricane. how’s that for redemption, disney?? how’s that for bookends, DISNEY?????

sacrifice is well and good and emotionally touching in all the most heart-wrenching ways, but hot damn. imagine, for just one more second if you please, the defiance and satisfaction of james norrington, a man of honor willing to die for his cause, instead living out of spite. imagine him finally forging his own path from the wreckage of his mistakes.

Asking this question to a couple people since I like collecting opinions!

What is the worst scene in the POTC Trilogy. You can judge it by relevance, entertainment value, or even how much it adds to the story?

And what is the best deleted/extended scene in the Trilogy, that you believe should've been kept in. Even if it may replace/alter things slightly?

Ooooh, the worst scene in the entire trilogy... that's difficult. I don't think there are really any scenes that I don't like. I can't even hate Norrington's death scene because it's just such a poetic end to his character. But if I had to pick one, I think I would go with the scene at the end of the first movie, during the final battle against Barbossa, where Elizabeth makes her appearance and says the line "You like pain? Try wearing a corset." It's one of the only comedic lines in the whole trilogy that just falls flat on its face, and I feel like they could have given Elizabeth any other line to make her sound cool and badass, which was the vibe they were going for.

Now the best deleted/extended scene in the entire trilogy... that's even harder, because their all so good, and I really truly believe all of them should've been kept in(aside from ones that contradict other scenes, or were just there for comedic purposes and didn't really have a point). But if I had to pick one that I think should've absolutely stayed in the movies and NOT been cut... it would have to be the price of freedom scene from the third movie(context for those who don't know the names of the deleted scenes, that's the one where Beckett says "I contracted you to deliver cargo on my behalf, and you chose to liberate it" and Jack replies "People aren't cargo, mate"). While I think it was criminal that so many scenes that really shaped James as a character ended up on the cutting room floor, the fact that one of the arguably MOST IMPORTANT SCENES to Jack's character, who at this point in the movies was the LITERAL MAIN CHARACTER was cut makes me want to BITE somebody(preferably whoever thought cutting that scene was a good idea). I've seen so many people who weren't aware of the scenes existence just completely butcher Jack's character because they don't understand his core motivations, and why he became a pirate in the first place, and it makes me so unreasonably angry- so yeah, if I had to pick exactly ONE scene to keep in, it would be that one

6. i struggled with, but triumphed over: i can't claim to say i remember how writing this went bc it was years ago but trying to forget the flames was for a holiday exchange. it's the only fe4 fic i've written (save a cobweb-covered wip for my boy eldigan) and it was for characters i wouldn't have written otherwise AND there was some description stuff going on so

Erinys finds herself beginning to anticipate Silvia’s moves. Perhaps dancing isn’t so difficult after all. The motions on the ground control Erinys in the same way that simple nudges of her pegasus’ flanks control the flight. Without thinking, she adds in some of her own flair. A bend of the knees here, a twist of the chest there… It takes her several seconds to realize that Silvia is no longer guiding her. As soon as Silvia had noticed Erinys finding the rhythm, she’d stepped back to fully feel her own. Rather than falter, Erinys continues to sway. Her movements are uncertain and a little clipped, but she’s beginning to understand what Silvia finds in the activity. After all, how many times has Erinys taken her pegasus for a ride to clear her thoughts?

11. characters i want to write more in the future: well it goes without saying that more potc things are desired. i need to write an elizabeth and james fic at some point. but i'm gonna go with The Lads because i do love them. will there be more dragons with them in the future? possibly. who knows. Post-LOTR Marathon Thoughts

I saw LOTR EE in the cinema today. It was my first LOTR marathon ever, as well as my first time seeing FOTR in the cinema. Despite having spent a decade of my life as a devout Tolkienist and LOTR/Hobbit fan before I shifted focus to other fandoms, it was also the first time in several years that I watched a LOTR movie at all. Naturally, I was very curious about what my own reaction would be.

What follows is my attempt at summarising some of my impressions before I forget them.

Best movie: My favourite always used to be ROTK, and it’s still by far the movie that makes me the most emotional, but I can finally say that FOTR is a better movie. Everything about it is simply magical. From start to finish, it introduces the most incredible range of settings and concepts and people. Visually, I believe it has a far richer colour palette than the others. I also get the impression that it has many more subtle references to the book than the other movies do.

Best overall: The soundtrack. I have a pet peeve when it comes to singing in movies – I hate it when a movie makes no effort to convince me that the character is actually singing. It’s surprisingly common for movies to combine the most half-arsed lip sync possible with a blatantly obvious studio production that often features a ginormous and rather glittery reverb regardless of what room the scene is set in. I’ve always upheld LOTR as an example of characters singing being done well, and Eowyn’s dirge being my favourite example in particular, but this time I noticed something new about it. Something really cool. When the camera changes angle, or when an object passes in front of the camera, the acoustics of Eowyn’s voice also change. Absolutely marvellous sound mixing.

If I could change one scene: I don’t know whether I’ve matured as a movie watcher or if I’ve just gained a healthier perspective on the whole book vs movie debate, but I found myself having nearly zero issues with the ways in which the movies differ from the book, which came as a surprise to me. I even found myself thinking that several changes were, in fact, for the better – I could see now that the story really did benefit from being adapted to the medium, instead of following the book to the letter. Don’t get me wrong – I would have preferred a Gimli who isn’t the butt of every other joke, a Legolas who’s less into surfing, and a Haldir who heads to the Havens without passing Helm’s Deep. But all of that is forgivable. If I could change one scene, I’d remove the Paths of the Dead skull avalanche. As far as I’m concerned, it’s pointless, it’s not a reference to anything, the sheer number of skulls makes absolutely no sense, and if anything, it gives the entire dead army plotline even more of a Pirates of the Caribbean feel. Speaking of, I’ve always assumed POTC is the reason why the army had to be a sickly neon green instead of the more conservative ghostly grey – the latter was already taken. The green honestly never stopped annoying me, so if I could change one thing in addition to removing the skull avalanche, I’d drastically lower the saturation of the entire Army of the Dead.

Miscellaneous thoughts: Something that struck me several times during this marathon was how much I’m still in love with the overall plot and with so many of the themes. I love the characters – including Boromir, whom I discovered is far more compelling to me now than he was in the past. I love that even those with the best of intentions may struggle to do good. I love that Bilbo’s choice to show Gollum mercy made him less susceptible to the Ring throughout his whole life, whereas Sméagol’s corruption was facilitated by his murder of Déagol. I love that Sam’s love for Frodo is everything. I wasn’t prepared for the burden of the Ring to remind me so much of the struggle of living with a mental illness, which I’m going to guess is a result of my metacognition having improved considerably since I last saw the movies.

Moment that made my heart pound so hard it hurt: The Ride of the Rohirrim.

Moments that made me the most emotional: Absolutely no surprises here. In second place, as usual, came “You bow to no one”, while Frodo’s farewell at the Havens came in first place, as always.
