Kaede Akamatsu - (She/Her Bi, female pref) Chubby and has stretch marks on her hips and stomach. Round baby face, and wears cute pink lipgloss. She also has a little nose ring.

Rantaro Amami - (He/They, pan) He’s a bit chubby (wow, my bias is showing) and has kind of thick thighs compared to most amab people. Wavy hair a bit longer than canon that he sometimes puts in a baby ponytail. Pierced nostril and tongue.

Kirumi Tojo - (She/Her, grey asexual, pan?) Midsized and kind of pear shaped with slightly muscular arms and long legs. Long, elegant hands and clear skin. Oblong face, longer pointy nose. Can’t tan to save her life. Occasionally wears black lipstick.

Ryoma Hoshi - (He/Him, aroace) Can we just knock it off with the random cartoony designs that don’t fit the rest of the aesthetic? He is still short and chubby, but in a humanoid way. Curly light brown hair and bushy eyebrows. Round face with freckles. Some scars on his knuckles from his prison days.

Angie Yonaga - (She/Her, Pan) Pretty average build. Soft tum and smallish boobs. Thick wavy hair that can get pretty gnarly and usually has some acrylic paint stuck in it. Also wipes her paintbrushes on her bare legs when she’s feeling lazy. Gold nose hoops and medusa piercing. Wears brown tinted lipgloss.

Tenko Chabashira - (She/Her, Lesbian) Athletic with lean muscle and somewhat broad shoulders. Tapes her knuckles for training sometimes and has short stubby hands. Doesn’t shave. Canine teeth that somewhat turn inward and look like fangs.

Korekiyo Shinguuji - (They/Them, pan) Tall and gangly skinny in an unhealthy way. No real muscle definition and shitty posture. Oblong face with a larger nose and somewhat crooked teeth (not that anyone could see that) Long bony hands that are always ice cold. Deathly pale and wears eyeliner and mascara. Wears reading glasses. Stretched ears.

Gonta Gokuhara - (He/Him, pan) Hella buff, but not necessarily chiseled. Still soft in some places (gives excellent hugs). His glasses are probably taped on the side due to his clumsiness. Tangled hair that absolutely cannot be tamed and a few accidental freeform locs in the mix. Sizable front tooth gap and full lips.

Miu Iruma - (She/Her horny pan) Plus sized with an extra fluffy hourglass figure. Stretch marks on her chest and hips. Clothes almost always stained with motor oil and sut. Dark brown roots that are a bit overgrown. Freckles and a round face with thick lips. Always wears lipgloss. Keeps a tube in her bra and pulls it without shame. Monroe and tongue piercings.

Kokichi Ouma - (He/Him, gay) A scrawny little pipsqueak. Has braces and sometimes spits when he talks. Ridiculously tiny hands and feet, has to wear children’s shoes. Absolutely cannot tan. Will sometimes wear makeup like a harlequin clown. Cartilage and nostril piercings.

Kaito Momota - (He/Him, bi female pref) Stocky build with muscular arms and broad shoulders, kind of linebacker-esque. I hate the way his hair is designed, but I feel like it would be kind of a straight wolf cut if he let it down. Will sometimes have a man bun. Hairy arms and ham hands. Pierced ears and eyebrow.

Maki Harukawa - (She/Her grey ace, female pref) Athletic build. Flat chested and barely defined waist. Heart-shaped face and widows peak hairline. Scars on her arms. Just really soft facial features that she kind of hates. Hates shaving her legs.

Shuichi Saihara - (He/They, FtM, bi male pref) A little bit pudgy and has thicker thighs. Binds, but is naturally fairly small chested. Wears eyeliner, and has long, thick eyelashes even without mascara. Pin straight hair. Round face and soft lips. Dark circles under his eyes. Has septum and industrial piercings and small stretched ears.

Himiko Yumeno - (She/Her, asexual, sapphic) She looks like she’s in middle school and is a bit chubby. Has perpetually rosy cheeks and crooked teeth in an endearing way. Very fine hair.

Tsumugi Shirogane- (She/Her, asexual) Midsized with pretty even weight distribution. Wavy, thick hair. Somewhat large forehead. Honestly I don’t have much to add to her canon design.

Kiibo - (They/He, aroace, no concept of gender) He is a robot. His “skin” is made of silicone and he has humanlike glass eyes. His hair is nylon and pokes into his little head like a doll. His design is extremely detailed with him even having eyelashes and enamel teeth. Has an internal heater to make his “skin” warm, kind of like baymax. And no, he didn’t come with a dick, though Iruma did patent one.

I wasn't sure what a phantom thief was at first, but after research, all I can say is: I love the idea of it. Anyway-- phantom always makes me think of the phantom of the opera,,

𔘓 ? You're a Phantom Thief?? The ULTIMATE Phantom Thief?! I'm not really sure how this works, but wouldn't it be a bit... Scandalous for the ultimate detective to be dating the ultimate Phantom Thief?

𔘓 Then again, that would be a very interesting dynamic. Enemies to lovers, 200k words, slowburn with a happy ending

𔘓 Whenever there's a case about you, he tries not to interfere with it much. He instead talks with you about it. Oooor, he is able to figure it out himself and then asks if you did it.

𔘓 You unintentionally help expand his detective skills. And your phantom thief skills evolve as well. You're going toe to toe, playing some kind of cat and mouse type game.

𔘓 I take it back, this doesn't even have to be an enemies to lovers, it's just a very interesting dynamic ~

⬥ Wow, impressive

⬥ That is... Quite the talent to have.

⬥ He is impressed, don't get me wrong, but Amami ponders on the morality of it.

⬥ You explain to him your rules and boundaries, he understands it more now. But he's still worried. For your safety, that is.

⬥ Being the ultimate phantom thief can be dangerous. So, when you come back home, very late at night, you're met with Rantaro crossing his arms. He knows it a part of being a phantom thief, but that doesn't mean he can't worry.

⬥ See, the cool thing about Rantaro being an adventurer, is that you often go on trips to various places all over the world. Which makes it easier to keep your identity a secret. Once the ultimate phantom thief is in Japan, next thing you know, they're already far away in Poland. You see what I mean? Inconsistency in their 'last spotted' location makes it impossible to figure out where they're from.

⬥ Which means you and Rantaro can live a kinda-peaceful life, only kinda.

♛ Oh. Oh?

♛ This is giving Ouma so many ideas. You're joining D.I.C.E, right?... You're joining D.I.C.E

♛ You're so cool- he means uh, you're, cool, I guess

♛ Ouma invites you to various adventures with D.I.C.E and outings. You're an important part of their group now.

♛ He just really digs the whole phantom thief aesthetic and the general idea of it.

♛ You're partners in crime ~ but this time, like, actually in crime

/ don't actually commit crime, don't be like Ouma, kids /

♛ No, but like, if this were a bad cop good cop type situation, people would assume you're the bad one while Ouma's the good one. Oh are they in for a surprise. /though, neither of you are really bad

Danganronpa Characters using Social Media

Ok so I've gotten obsessed over the idea of how Hope's Peak Academy students would use social media

I just want them to be normal happy high school teens acting like normal happy high school teens… is that too much to ask for…? 😔

A lot of the Ultimates would have verified tags on social media

I feel like the students with the most followers on social media would be Junko Enoshima, Sayaka Maizono, Sonia Nevermind, and uhh can't think of anyone else rn lol

There would also be a lot of Ultimates who refuse to make their account public and keep their social media engagement to be just within their friends and mutuals

Some I can think of on the top of my head are Kyoko Kirigiri, uhhh you probably get the point, there's a lot to list

Hajime Hinata would be the type of person to have a private Instagram account with around 200 something followers, even though he is one of the most popular/well-known people at Hope's Peak Academy

He would barely ever post anything (but I also HC him to post clips of him doing stuff like playing basketball on his story)

Nagito Komaeda would be following thousands of people, but only have a few hundred followers.

Still, he would have more followers than Hajime, and Nagito’s account would be set public He would post aesthetic photos with inspirational/hopeful quotes in the caption

Junko Enoshima would be the opposite: she would have hundreds of thousands followers but follow only like 10 people

But the people she follows are unexpected. For example, she would not follow Mukuro Ikusaba, her twin sister, but follow Makoto Naegi

She would also follow Yasuke Matsuda and Ryoko Otonashi, because I think it would be funny if some famous celebrity followed private accounts with only like 30 followers

Junko Enoshima has an account for Monokuma on all social media platforms she’s on.

Notable things she posts there are “Monokuma Theatre” clips, and also uses those accounts to shit on stuff (like Hope’s Peak Academy) while role playing in her Monokuma character

Also think it’s worth mentioning that while Nagito Komaeda posts interviews with Hope’s Peak Academy students to talk about how hopeful their talents are, Junko Enoshima uses her Monokuma account to slander HPA students and their talents

Izuru Kamukura would get an Instagram account but never use it. He only uses it when someone convinces him to add him.

Would have no profile pic or bio

Has like 12 followers. Follows back 8

A private account with thousands of requests because Junko Enoshima keeps tagging him

Idk why but something makes me feel like a lot of the V3 students would be TikTokers

Especially Tsumugi Shirogane because that's self-explanatory

Other V3 characters I can think of from the top of my mind that I can see being TikTokers with no proper explanation are

Angie Yonaga being those "mindfulness" social media influencers (for the lack of a better term)

Himiko Yumeno posting magic TikToks

his favorite is saharah cause he appreciates how she makes the own living (he bought alot of rugs but didn’t hv enough space 😭😭 (he didn’t wanna fall for toms schemes & expand))

he also relates a lot to totakeke not the hippie part but the mellowness i something he likes alot

tbh he plays only maybe 6 times a month? he likes to check in on his villagers 💖💖

it took many hours of research (thank you yokai.com and the myths and folklore wiki) and many decisions based on bullshit, but! I now have a finished (sorta) cryptid au chart to go on. More descriptions/explainations below the cut:

**EDIT: Some people raised concerns about cultural appropriation, so I’ve changed Maki to Bloody Mary! I apologize for the lack of research on my end!

Shuichi Saihara - Apprentice Grim Reaper

If Ultimate Lucky Student equals human, then Ultimate Detective equals Death. My working theory is that Shuichi was intended to be Class 79’s resident human, but died on his way to the school and was then taken in by Kyoko as an apprentice.

**Maki Harukawa - Bloody Mary

Specifically the version where she was falsely accused of killing a bunch of kids and then burned alive for it. Now she kills, but only when summoned. Kind of like an assassin!

Kaito Momota - Krampus/Goatman

Kaito really wanted to be viewed like Santa and instead he’s viewed as like. Evil Santa. And he’s sad about it. Also he has a bridge, though I imagine he’d be pretty gung-ho about dancing on it. (I don’t have a good explanation for this either. it’s just vibes.)

Himiko Yumeno - Baba Yaga

More like Baby Yaga, am I right??? I was just going to make her witch, but that’s booooring. I’m probably never going to draw like, Old Lady Himiko, though. Maybe she was just too lazy to age normally.

Tsumugi Shirogane - Lizardperson (Chameleon)

She’s totally plain and normal! Don’t look too closely! You definitely won’t find anything! What is this AU, if not a bunch of monsters cosplaying as humans. And what cryptid would be the best for that, if not a lizard person. As for the chameleon, i like the aesthetic more than just regular lizard face.

K1-B0 - Automaton

Yes, it’s lazy. (Though he’s also in contention for Class Human, specifically so he can claim to be a robot. Because his whole childhood he was gaslit by his “creator” into being told he was a robot. And this is the first school where people hear that and go “yup, that checks out!”)

Gonta Gokuhara - Boogeyman

I really screwed myself over by making Taka Mothman, but I just love that idea too deeply to change it. So, where’d I get the Boogeyman? Well, if we operate under the Oogie Boogie man from The Nightmare Before Christmas, the Boogeyman is basically a sentient pillowcase full of bugs! Sounds good enough to me!

Miu Iruma - Nymph (Dionysian)

Again, I really screwed myself over by using all the horny monsters up on other characters, but I think this works! Dionysian Nymphs are particularly frisky and have a propensity for partying and vulgarity, but maybe the booze will knock a good idea loose every once and a while.

Rantaro Amami - Kelpie

Green hair??? Seaweed??? Hatred of cars??? I got nothing, we really haven’t/didn’t see that much of that boy. Kokichi Oma - Eldritch Horror

I’m not convinced he’s not an Eldritch Horror in canon, tbh.

Kaede Akamatsu - Sylph

I search high and low, yet found no piano cryptids. So I went with Sylph because they’re air spirits, sometimes depicted as hummingbirds (music theme!) Plus, Kaede can be a little airheaded sometimes.

Ryoma Hoshi - Kappa

This was mostly vibes + I drew a doodle of Ryoma with a Lotad-esc lily pad head and fell in love. Plus, uh, drowning is an essential part of both Ryoma and kappas. Dude would probably be the chillest kappa in existence though.

Kirumi Tojo - Jorōgumo

There’s a lot of Kirumi spider imagery. This seems like a shoo-in.

Angie Yonaga - Living Painting

okay this is mostly just me being on an Ib kick, but it would explain why she’s always smiling. Bonus: Atua was/is the name of her painter.

Tenko Chabashira - Yeti

I…I got nothing for this. I ran out of man-hating monsters, and I wanted something that could beat the shit out of you. It was this or a Chimera. I dunno.

Korekiyo Shinguji - Naga

I only know this because of his FTEs Korekiyo compares himself to Medusa at one point and says it’s his favorite folktale. Unfortunately, gorgon has already been claimed by Miss Celestia Ludenburg, but luckily we can still get that snake monster symbolism. Mask is to cover up that unhinging jaw probably. (Also let’s just say that he isn’t dating his sister for this AU, yeah? I don’t want to deal with that.)

Also, some adjustments to earlier cryptids:

Toko Fukawa/Genocide Jack: Some people raised concerns that having any sort of cryptid that “played off” Genocide Jack could be considered offensive to those with DID or MPD, so I changed it. And honestly? The Kuchisake-onna works so much better. Woman who’s insecure about her body image and carries around a giant pair of scissors?? If that’s not Toko, I don’t know what is!

Mukuro Ikusaba: I love Mukuro, but I felt like the Waheela was just sort of me grasping for any sort of wolf symbolism, and it didn’t really work. Now she’s an incredibly intimidating curse demon who can control the weather! Much better.

Junko Enoshima: I think she was technically a Wraith before?? but Lich just seemed more fitting. She’s every DND campaign’s BBG.
