In City of Glass, didn't Malec take a "break" of sorts in the middle, and then reconcile in the end with the "you love me?" "Of course I do, you stupid Nephilim" line? Since 2B seems to follow City of Glass story wise, maybe something like that will happen?

Exactly, Gracie! That’s why I am trying to tell people that Malec will be fine and they all need to relax. I mean tbf I don’t know the details anymore why Malec resolved their relationship in the book (basically, what you have witnessed now on the show in 2x18), but I believe it was about lack of communication as always when it comes to book!Malec and not something real and important as seen on the show where the “seperation” actually made sense.

Anyway, Malec DID make up when sharing the alliance rune and a kiss. Again, don’t ask me at which point the quote you and I mentioned happens but… THEY MAKE UP IN THE END AND ALL WILL BE FINE!!!

Basically, all they do is roughly follow the books but instead of the nonsense from the books, Malec actually got a meaningful plot. There is still no need to worry, trust me!

I really liked that post you just did about the Malec break up. A lot of people are at odds about what to think about it. I'm trying to stay hopeful that they'll get back together by the end of 2x20. Matt constantly says that Malec will only continue to rise up, and I don't think he would say that if they stayed broken up for more than a few episodes. I'm surprised that more people aren't talking about how, even though both were sad, the turn out is so much better than it was in the book.

Hi Gracie! Thank you so much for reading my post and letting me know that you liked it. I know there are many differing opinions on it and I think that’s ok, but I don’t want people to be at odds over it, which is why I decided to make that post.

I agree with you on Matt. He is the captain of this ship and I believe him, too. I just really feel like Matt is always talking long term when he speaks of Malec and maybe he is trying to reassure us that everything is going to be ok in the end. We all know that Malec is endgame and I cant imagine a life where they arent.

While I really hope that this break up doesn’t last for more than a few episodes, there are a few reasons why I am preparing myself for the possibility that it might. One is that there is going to be a lot of action and fast moving plot in the last two episodes. How in the world does a couple get back together while fighting for their lives against multiple dangers? They are both responsible for the lives of many others and will be very busy dealing with all that. If something happens with Jace then that will be an overwhelming thing that Alec has to deal with and trump all other concerns because of the nature of their bond. Now, that being said, I don’t know what “decisions” Magnus is going to ultimately make, and while he seems to be resigned that he has to let Alec go in 2x18, he may end up quickly realizing that is a mistake and not going too far down that road. If that’s the case, there may be a quicker resolution to this than what I think at this time. I guess it all depends on what Magnus decides to do and how everything else plays out in the last two episodes. We do know they will be fighting together in the end, and so at the very least we will see them working together and protecting each other, which will be beautiful and give us hope. So I do think that we will be on the upswing by the end of 2x20, but I don’t think it will be all put back together and wrapped up in a big bow, if that makes sense. I almost don’t even hope it is, tbh, because I don’t want them to gloss over the factors that led to the breakup in the first place. I think it will be similar to how they left Malec in 1x13 for the hiatus. It wasn’t really bad, but it made us anxious to see the first episode of the next season, and I think this one will be kind of like that. However, a lot can happen in one episode (for instance while rewatching with my daughter I realized that Alec met and proposed to Lydia in the very same episode. Thats insane) And the show has been amazing with Malec and navigating conflict and resolution, so they might surprise me and get those two beautiful men right back on the same path and working together and happy by the end of 2x20 in a way that seems completely honest and true to character. That would be ideal. After the flashbacks we got in 2x18 I would never underestimate this shows ability to stun me and make my heart grow 10 sizes all at the same time.

As for the books, I’ve actually seen a few posts going around talking about how the breakup was for so much different reasons and handled so much differently than in the books, and while I agree (at least about the reasons, as we dont know how its going to play out), I have to admit that I largely stay out of the book vs show discourse. I view the show and the books kind of as separate entitites. Especially with Malec, as it really is a very different Malec in many aspects than the book. I’m definitely hoping for a much faster resolution than we got in the books for sure!

An AU where Magnjs is a famous beauty blogger on YouTube. Alec sometimes makes appearances in his videos, and Magnus's fans love it when he's there.

magnus is a pro at social media

he does the full works, twitter, instagram, snapchat, whatever’s going, and he’s amazing at interacting with his fans and making them feel loved and special

but it all started a few years ago with youtube, when magnus got absolutely sick and tired of people being all ‘men don’t wear makeup!!!!’ and his first video was basically a fuck you on how to do the manliest manly eyeliner and smoky eye ever

only surprise it was actually a really good tutorial underneath the salt and bitterness

so he kind of kept going??? themed looks for halloween and festive and seasonal things and going out looks and advice for what products to use when and stuff

actually the advice part and helping people is his favourite part

but anyway in the space of a few years magnus goes from a broke, hard working student to a professional youtuber

which his poor single mother still doesn’t understand, is that even a real career magnus?

anyway enter stage left the lightwoods

i’m on a music jam so surprise!!! they’re musicians in a band

jace plays keys, izzy sings and alec plays bass

they really needed a guitarist and a drummer which is where simon and maia came in

alec is sick of his bandmates hooking up

but that’s not part of this story so!!!!!!!!!

izzy and jace are the real front-people of the band, and their label has this great idea to get them more exposure on social media

they put a deal through magnus + his team (cat, ragnor & raphael) of doing a series of collab videos

magnus does a few makeovers and tutorials and things for the band

whilst the band teaches magnus some instruments and little chill bts things like that

magnus also styles their new music video for their latest song, so it’s all good!!!

now, magnus doesn’t really know the band that well but when he gets their pictures hooo boy can he not wait to makeover tall dark and handsome

that collab video is as gold as you would expect

alec not that comfortable with makeup in general but he’s used to stage makeup by now so he doesn’t look like a pale ass ghost at a gig

magnus just jams it up a little without going too overboard, nothing alec’s uncomfortable with

(later he’ll admit he actually really appreciates eyeliner..... much, much later)

and then when magnus arrives for music lessons, he seems to take a very sudden and passionate interest in bass guitar

once the video series is done, magnus is devastated at the thought of not seeing this gorgeous creature again

but izzy kinda sets them up on a date and surprise!!!! they end up dating for real

alec’s basically allergic to pr and would have absolutely no hopes of a career if it wasn’t for izzy and jace, so he barely even maintains an account

but magnus starts posting all these cheesy couples photos and the internet explodes

alec writes magnus songs and he posts them online as previews

magnus does one of those ‘my boyfriend does my makeup’ vids, only it’s adorable because alec actually takes an interest in what magnus does, so he does pretty well at getting all the right things on in the right order even if his eyeliner is a little... shaky

honestly can you imagine none of us would survive

anyway yeah they combust the internet with the cute, the end

About that anon who said we shouldn't trust Matt: I don't think he would do something as cruel as telling us Malec will be fine when they turn out not to be. When he told us not to get our hopes up for ep 1x12, he was just trolling us because he knew we knew what would happen. We knew they were going to kiss in that ep no matter what he told us. It was literally called "Malec."

I think the reason he's been defending Malec so much because he's been preparing us for this journey they would be going on at the end of this season, and the fact that they will always be endgame no matter what. (Sorry this was kind of long).

“Malec is one heart” and “.... unending happiness”. ‘nuff said!

I think the real issue is that people need to stop making such quick judgements based in a quote from an interview. To me, that did not look like an attack on the fans in anyway. So many people have been at his throat lately, and I think it's good of him to be staying off the internet. I would too if I were in his position. What do you think?

yes exactly this. like, not only have people misinterpreted what he said, but it’s almost disturbing how quick they are to make an absolute moral judgment based on a couple of sentences (out of context no less) from an interview. like, come on now. 

when i read it the first time - albeit i was distracted by his beautiful smile lol - i definitely didn’t look at it that way, and i still don’t. i don’t think it’s really the fact that people are at matt’s throat specifically but just the fact that people are so ready to jump down anyone’s throat for anything before thinking about it for even a second. 

and i think matt understands a lot more about this tendency of the fandom/internet than people give him credit for. he doesn’t tweet or post about anything at all that isn’t specifically shadowhunters-related or related to his personal life (i.e. current events, politics, etc.) because i think he knows how easily people misinterpret and pass judgment. he’s even expressed some gentle frustration during livechats of this exact thing (talking about people “being prone to outrage” and not perceiving others as equals). i know i certainly would keep my distance if i were in his place. i’m not saying matt doesn’t appreciate fans or love us or enjoy interacting with us - of course he does, he always wants to do livechats lol - but that he understands some of the ugly tendencies of fandom pretty well.
