Steve let out the greatest sigh he'd ever heaved. "I can't believe I have to fuck him."
Robin's head whipped to him so fast like he just said he was gonna jump off a building. "You don't have to."
"No I'm gonna", Steve said, eyes not leaving Eddie. He was biting his thumb like he couldn't wait to get alone with him.
Robin looked back at Eddie, who was filling up his plate with things from the picnic table. "I don't see it."
"Because you're a lesbian."
"With taste. And standards. I mean what exactly has got you twirling your hair right now?"
"I mean look at him!"
Eddie had a plate in one hand that already had an open burger on it. The fingers of his other hand danced like they were trilling a piano as he was deciding on what to put on the plate next. He grabbed some chips on the side and then placed the plate down to figure out what he condiment he wanted.
Eddie put his hand on his chin like it was the utmost important decision. Then he grabbed the mayo and the mustard in one hand and squeezed them in a swirl.
"You gonna kiss him with must-ayo breath?", Robin snickered.
"I wish I was that burger", Steve said as he watched Eddie sink his teeth into it. Steve bit his lip while Eddie was licking som stray sauce off his fingers and Robin felt uncomfortable.
"Um, do you, Eddie, and the burger want some privacy."
If Steve was being honest, he didn't fully trust himself to be alone in a room with just Eddie and whatever he was currently feasting on.
--------------------------
Eddie wasn't drunk. He wasn't even buzzed. No this particular evening, he was simply loopy on lack of sleep. He'd meant to go to bed, honest. But an idea popped into his mind and things kept adding in a delicious stew of inspiration and he just stayed up all night.
When Steve heard that, he nearly cursed him out for driving like that to his house.
"We were supposed to meet today, Steeeeve."
"It could've waited."
"Hmm, one doesn't make the king wait."
Eddie collapsed onto his couch and Steve thought he might conk out right away, but he was valiantly staying awake. Steve sat next to him and thought he might wait to see just in case Eddie fell asleep in the next 15 seconds.
Instead, Eddie reached out slowly with his pointer finger and booped Steve's nose. "It's so pointy", he said in a croaky voice. "Bet the girls loved that."
Steve snorted. "What?"
"When you ate 'em out."
"Dude!", Steve laughed. Eddie was always pretty candid, but this was another brand.
Then Eddie began to draw circles on Steve's face with his finger, all while drawing out that croaky sound before saying "Phooone hoooome."
Steve giggled and Robin finally spoke up from the loveseat.
"Yeah, I'm still here. But you know, movie night can wait or whatever."
----------------------
Steve's hands were in his face as he sat on the edge of his bed. Robin was patting his back reassuringly.
"There, there."
"It's just... Robin you should've seen him."
"I've seen him, babe."
"Not like this he was just-he was so into it!"
Steve had gone to pick up Eddie from the Wheeler's. He figured he'd find the other either with Mike, or maybe even Nancy. But no. Eddie had been in the backyard, in the middle of a very intense game of pretend with Holly. It had taken Steve everything not to strip and beg Eddie to give him his own babies.
"Have I...always been this much of a slut?", Steve asked.
Robin thought for a second before answering. "Yyyeah. But also, you've always been a goofball. Now that I think about it, you and Nancy had kinda an opposites attract thing. But maybe you don't need to opposite. You need someone as silly as you."
"Steve!", Eddie nearly crashed through his door. "We're making a blanket fort downstairs, you in?"
Steve rubbed his face and looked to Robin, admitting defeat with his eyes and then looked to Eddie. "Yeah. I really do."

Tumblr media
Growing up with Steve has been nothing but an adventure. Steve Harrington has been your best friend the second your dad got a promotion at his new job and moved you and your mom into the new neighborhood. He watched with wide eyes and a big smile as you jumped out of the car and ran to the front door of the house.
“Hi!” he shouted and waved.
You turn around and face the small boy and wave back.
“I'm Steve! I live next door!” he panted out while running over to you.
“I'm y/n! This is my new house!”
“Yeah, old man Walt used to live here,” Steve said while kicking a rock around. “He was mean and always kept my balls if they went over the fence.”
You gasped and turned to your mom who was helping unload the truck.
“Mommy! Can I go to the backyard with Steve and look for his toys?”
“As long as you don't get your dress dirty honey, play nice!”
As cliche as it sounds, the rest was history. Steve and you stayed attached to the hip ever since that very day. Although he was growing, Steve never really changed. He kept his boyish charm and still told his not-so-funny jokes. The only thing that really changed about Steve was his reputation and his looks, and god was he nice to look at. You'd never admit it but a part of you always thought you and Steve would end up together. The both of you would watch countless movies about the boy falling in love with the girl next door, you'd expected something to happen as time went on, but Steve never made a move.
The older you two got, the more blurry the lines of friendship got for you two. Maybe it's because the older both of you got, the more thoughts you'd have about each other. Steve would never act on his thoughts, the furthest he's gone with you is sharing a bed from the many sleepovers you guys had.
“Do you ever think about me?” The time was currently 1:07 and even though everyone was asleep, you still found yourself whispering.
“I think about you all the time.” He's telling the truth.
“Not like that…I mean romantically.”
Your heart was pounding out of your chest right now. You know you shouldn’t have asked him this, Nancy just broke his heart a month ago but you have to know.
“Oh.”
It was a simple response, but it was enough to break your heart just a little bit.
Steve never answered you that night, but he wanted to. Steve has thought of you romantically ever since you set foot into your backyard with him and helped him find the balls old man Walt kept from him. Of course, he wasn't going to say anything about it though cause he'd rather not fuck up the one good thing in his life. You began to distance yourself after that little situation, nothing too bad. You just drive yourself from school and give him a small smile in the halls instead of greeting him.
“What is wrong with me Robin?! Why did I even ask that?” You asked while hiding your head in your locker. Robin lets out a hum and fixes her hair in the mirror you have hanging in there.
“You are the most cliche case I've ever heard of.” She chuckles out.
“Cliche or not I shouldn’t have put him on full blast like that.” You close your locker, ignoring the whine Robin lets out.
“Y/n, you didn't put him on blast. You just asked a simple question! If I was in your shoes and had someone treat me like that I’d want to clear the air too.”
You pouted at her. “Are you just saying that to make me feel better?”
She smiles at you. “And cause Steve is taking Stacy on a date tonight.”
-
Your heart is pounding, matching the rhythm of your hands slamming onto the door. You stop again checking your watch, biting down on your bottom lip. It was currently 9:55 and Steve took Stacy out around seven. Now, you haven't been on a date in a hot second, but they don't usually last this long, right? His car is parked in the driveway which means he's home. You sigh and lift your hand up to knock again but Steve swings the door open. The first thing you notice is him rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, then you see the bruise that's forming on his neck. You see how they fall to his chest and you realize Steve is shirtless.
“Y/n? What are you doing here?” He asked while yawning.
“You're shirtless.” you mutter. You've seen Steve shirtless before, but this is different. The way the moonlight shines on him makes him look ethereal.
Steve chuckles and shakes his head. “Eyes are up here sweetheart.”
Your eyes shoot to his face thinking you'd snap out of your daze but you just get worse. Steve still looks half asleep and his hair is sticking up in awkward places. You restrain yourself from reaching out to fix and clear your throat, you're putting your heart on the line right now and to say you're terrified is an understatement.
“Steve?” a voice breaks out. Your eyes fall to wherever the voice came from and you let out a breathy laugh. Stacy is standing in the middle of the stairs with Steve's shirt over her small frame.
“Stacy’s here.” You say, not taking your eyes off of her.
“Uh, yeah,” he turns to face her. “Go back to bed babe, I'll be there soon.”
She doesn't listen, instead, she leans against the railing glaring at you, almost as if she dares you to finish what you were about to say. Steve rolls his eyes and turns his attention back to you.
“Everything okay?”
No, but you nod your head and take a deep breath.
“I uh, I remembered you had my sweater here. Just wanted it back.”
Steve furrows his brows. “You came all the way here at,” his hand reached for your wrist looking at the watch you wore. “Ten o'clock just to get a sweater?”
You laugh. “Yeah, it was stupid. Very stupid.” you wipe away a tear that managed to escape and Steve stands a little straighter.
“Hey, it's okay I can grab it-”
“No, it's fine. I should…I should go.”
Steve’s shoulders slump and he nods his head. He feels uneasy but he's not sure why.
“Okay. I’ll see you later?”
You nod your head. “Bye Steve.”
-
That was the last time you talked to Steve. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and before you knew it you and Steve were complete strangers. You'd run into him when Mrs. Henderson asked you to watch Dustin, every time Steve saw you it was like he saw a ghost. He’d try and talk to you but you'd either just walk off in the other direction, or you'd give him a quick goodbye only to have another awkward interaction next time he was with Dustin.
“Did you and Steve have a thing?” Dustin asked as you parked your car in the mall parking lot. You reach into the back grabbing the dreaded scoops ahoy hat.
“What? No! Why did he say something?”
Dustin shrugs his shoulders. “He talks about how he misses you…hey did you know he got a new job?”
You step out of the car and make a face. “Where?”
Dustin follows you out of the car and glances at you.
“Uh, nowhere important.”
You pin your nametag to the brightly colored shirt you have and stop in your tracks.
“Where, Dustin?”
Dustin stumbles over his words, hands flailing in every direction possible as everything finally clicks.
“Please tell me it's not at scoops…”
“Okay, it's not at scoops.”
You open the door for Dustin rolling your eyes at his answer.
“You're a shitty liar.”
Dustin shrugs his shoulders and walks into the busy mall with you.
“Are you going to miss me when I go to science camp?”
“If that's what you want to call it, sure.”
Dustin glared at you, causing you to chuckle and shake his head around a bit.
“‘Course I’ll miss you, Dustin. Now, go find your demon friends.”
Dustin thanked you for the ride and ran towards his friends who were waving at him. You quickly make your way to work, smiling at Robin when you see her behind the counter.
“There's my fellow sailor!” she laughed out. You led out a sarcastic laugh and clocked in.
“You'll never believe what I found out.”
She let out a hum and leaned against the counter. “Let me guess, Steve works here now?”
“How does everyone know except me?!”
Robin laughs and holds up his name tag. She tosses it to you, takes a sample spoon, and dips it into the strawberry ice cream.
“He starts training tomorrow.”
You let out a groan and set the name tag aside.
“I'm working tomorrow!”
“I know, lovers will be reunited- hey!”
You snatched the small spoon out of her mouth and tossed it into the trash can.
“We are not lovers!”
“Well not yet but-”
“Not ever, I stopped talking to him for a reason.”
Robin rolled her eyes. “Well, I don’t think he's stopped talking to you.”
You narrowed your eyes at her and smiled when you heard customers walk in.
“You have customers.”
“I hate you.”
You blew her a kiss and let out a laugh when you saw her catch it and throw it into the trash.
“Ahoy sailors, what can I get for you today?”
-
You fight the urge to let out a groan as you rest your head on the counter. Why did you decide to go to a party knowing you had an early shift? You're not sure, all you know is the Advil is wearing off and the customers won't stop talking.
“Hey, are you okay?” Steve asks while glancing at you.
You shook your head and let out a groan. Working with Steve has been…eventful. When you had to train him for work, it was a bit awkward in the beginning but soon Steve’s charm won you over once again. Although there were still a few awkward moments shared between you two, it wasn't as bad as it used to be. “Remind me to never go to a party ever again,” you mumble while walking into the back. Steve furrows his brows and follows you.
“Party? You hate parties.”
“No, I used to hate parties, now I somewhat enjoy them.”
Steve makes a face and it's one you can't read. You know he hasn't been to too many parties ever since he's lost his king Steve title to Billy.
“How much did you drink last night?”
“Enough for me to regret it the next day,” you said with a smile. You took a seat at the small table and massaged your temples.
“What made you drink that much?” Steve asked while taking a seat across from you. You let out a chuckle.
“Since when does anyone need a reason to drink?”
He shrugs his shoulders. “Not like you to drink.”
“You act as if you know me, Steve.”
“I used to.”
A dry chuckle leaves your lips. “Yeah, used to being the keywords.”
Steve leans forward and rests his arms on the table.
“Why’d you stop talking to me?”
Time felt like it froze when you stared into his eyes.
“What?”
Steve opened his mouth ready to ask again when Robin burst through the door.
“I got you some more Advil!”
You smile at her and practically snatch the bottle out of her hand. She stops you from opening the bottle before handing you a bottle of Gatorade.
“You're an absolute angel robin.”
She shakes her head and chuckles at you.
“Did you go to the party too Robin?”
“Yeah, it was pretty fun.”
Steve’s eyes widen. “Why wasn't I invited?!”
“Cool people only,” you said with a wink and stood from your spot.
“Steve you have customers upfront.”
“What? But my lunch is happening-”
Robin shushed him and put a hand up to her ear. “You hear that? Sounds like customers asking for you.”
Steve rolls his eyes muttering how she owes him an extra ten minutes for his break. Robin rushes him out and makes sure the window is closed before turning to you.
“How much do you remember from last night?”
You give her a confused look and think about it. You don't remember as much as you'd like to, but you also didn't black out until the end of the night.
“Uh, last I remembered was playing beer pong with you? Why?”
Robin let out a nervous giggle. “No reason…no reason at all. Do you remember, oh I don't know, kissing someone?”
You shake your head drinking your water.
“You kissed billy.”
You let out a gasp making the water go down the wrong pipe, which made you start to choke and gasp. Water dripped from your chin down to your uniform as robin smacked your back. Steve slides the window open and looks at you in shock.
“Jesus Christ, what happened?!”
“Uh, she just drank too fast. Yes. Yes, that's what happened, right y/n?!”
Your coughs die down a bit and you give Steve a thumbs up. He looks at you for another second before slowly closing the window.
“Billy Hargrove?!” You whisper shouted at her.
“No, Billy Idol. Of course Billy Hargrove!”
You stand still for a moment trying to come up with a plan. It shouldn't be that hard to avoid Billy, you avoided Steve for what? A year almost? You'll be fine with Billy! You don't even see him on a regular basis, what are the chances you'll bump into him again?
“Hey, can I go to lunch now?” Steve asks while coming back into the break room. You pat his shoulder and nod your head.
“Yeah, I'm gonna head out when you come back though.”
You make your way out to the front and stop dead in your tracks when you see a familiar set of red curls in front of you.
“You are one hard girl to track down y/n.” He said with a smirk.
Fuck.
“Billy! W-what are you doing here?”
He leans against the counter, the smirk on his face sitting beautifully.
“It's a hot day for Hawkins, thought I’d come by before work to cool off.”
Work, Billy was a lifeguard at the pool and you feel your cheeks heat when an image of him shirtless flashes across your mind. He's such a shitty person, why did he have to be so hot? You let out a nervous chuckle.
Well, guess you came to the right place.”
“That I did.” his eyes look at you up and down and he chuckles. “Cute uniform.”
“What do you want billy?” you sigh out.
He points down at the Rocky Road ice cream. You let out a sigh and grab the scooper before you put the ice cream on the cone.
“What are you doing Friday?”
You roll your eyes, handing him the ice cream, and mutter out that you're working.
“Ditch it.”
“I can't just ditch work Billy.”
He licks the ice cream and winks at you.
“Oh c’mon, I'll make it worth your while.”
You let out an awkward chuckle. Although Billy is very good-looking, he's also the scum of the earth. You hate how he treats Max and you hate how he treats girls like they're toys. Not to mention the way Max talks about how he treats Lucas, one of the sweetest kids you know.
“How about this,” he started. “Just, think about it. Friday, I'll come swing by and if you're in your work uniform I’ll leave you alone.”
You nod your head liking where this is going.
“But, if you happen to be in regular clothes, then I'll just so happen to be sitting in that booth waiting for you.”
He backed away from the counter sending you a wink before he turns around and shouts think about it, darling. You're left frozen to your spot as you watch Billy walk off to wherever he was going.
“What the fuck was that?” Robin chuckled from behind the open window.
“I think I just got asked out?”
Steve was shaking his head. “No. Absolutely not.”
You turn around and face him. “What do you mean no?”
“I mean there's no way Billy Hargrove just asked you out.”
You let out a scoff and Robin adds a tally mark under you suck for Steve. His eyes widen and he backtracks.
“Not like that! I mean, you're pretty, of course, he's going to ask you out. I just meant there's no way you're going.”
“Okay, dad. Since when do you tell me what to do?”
Steve is fumbling over his words and Robin is trying not to laugh as she adds another tally.
“Have you ever been on a date?”
“I've been on dates!”
“Name one.”
You open your mouth only to quickly close it as you let out a scoff.
“I'm not doing this-”
“Let me take you out!”
Silence falls over the small shop and you grab your bag from under the counter.
“What are you talking about?”
“You know, like dinner and stuff. Maybe we can watch a movie too.” Steve said with a smile.
“You want to take me on a date?”
Steve’s cheeks heat up and he clears his throat.
“A practice date! You know…for practice.”
You nod your head and point to the exit.
“I'm gonna go now.”
You walk out of the shop, rolling your eyes when Steve says he’ll pick you up tomorrow after his shift. He let out a groan and took the hat off of his head to run his hands through his hair.
“Aaaaand,” Robin drags out. “Another one bites the dust!” she says while adding another tally mark.
-
A content sigh leaves your lips as you sit on the couch flipping through the channels. You knew you weren't going to pay attention to whatever show you landed on, but background noise was nice for a nap. A smile makes its way onto your face as you begin to relax and sink into the sofa, then you hear three knocks on your door. You shrug your shoulders thinking it's those door-to-door salesmen but then you hear his voice calling out for you.
“Y/n? I know you're home, I can see your car.”
Confused, you stand up and make your way to the door.
“Steve?”
“Jesus, is this how you dress for a date?”
Your eyes fall to the flowers he's holding and you feel your cheeks begin to heat.
“I didn't know you were serious.”
“‘Course I was serious.”
You look down at your comfy clothes and clear your throat.
“Do you want to come in?”
Steve smiles at you and nods his head. You step to the side, opening the door a bit wider to let him in. He steps inside and looks around the house, a smile appearing when he sees a picture of you two on Halloween.
“Your mom still has this picture?”
“Yeah, she misses you.”
He gives you a sad smile. “Yeah, I miss her too.”
He looks down at the flowers letting out a soft oh. “These are for you.”
You smile and grab the flowers, ignoring Steve's lingering and brushing against yours.
“Thank you, they're beautiful,” you say while smelling the pretty red roses.
“Hey, can you put them in a vase for me? I need to change.”
Steve nods his head and walks into the kitchen.
“Vases in the same cabinet?”
You shout out yes as you make your way into your room. You close the door gently and stand in the middle of your room, your heart beating rapidly. What the fuck were you supposed to wear? You had no idea if Steve had something casual planned or if he was seriously taking you somewhere nice. You search through your closet and drawers trying to find something nice but also casual. You close your eyes trying to think back to what Steve was wearing. Despite it being warm out, he had on a yellow sweater paired with his favorite jeans.
“Casual,” you whispered to yourself. “Okay, I can do casual.”
Minutes go by and Steve is thankful that he remembers the way to your bedroom. He gives it a small knock and opens the door when he hears you telling him to come in.
“Hey I don't mean to rush but we might miss- woah.”
Steve’s mouth is slightly open as he looks at you. He doesn't know why he's so blown away, he's seen you wear this outfit so many times. It's literally just shorts paired with a red blouse that's tucked into your shorts.
“What? Do I need to change or something?” you ask while tying your shoes.
“No! I mean, no. You look fine.”
“Awe, thanks Stevie you're too kind.”
Steve is too distracted by the all-too-familiar nickname you called him by to even notice you walking out of your room. He follows close behind you, stopping you when he sees you grabbing your purse.
“You didn't need that.”
“Are you sure? That means you'll have to carry my house key.”
He shakes his head and jingles his keys.
“I still have the house key your mom gave me. We're all set for today.”
You shrug your shoulders and walk out the door, making sure Steve locks it. He walks you to his car, opening the passenger door for you. Once you're both in the car he starts it up and lowers the radio a bit.
“So where are you taking me?”
“I'm so glad you asked that.” He pulls out a blindfold and smiles at you. “It's a surprise.”
“Steve, no! I hate surprises!”
She shrugs his shoulders and hands you the blindfold waving his hand in front of your face to make sure you don't see anything.
“You better not kill me, Harrington.” you mutter under your breath.
“Darn, you just ruined date night.”
-
The car ride was surprisingly fun even though you couldn't see anything. Steve had a mixtape of all your favorite songs and you both shouted the lyrics as if your lives depended on it. When you felt the car park you clapped your hands.
“Are we here?”
“Yup, this is the part where I kill you.”
You let out a sarcastic laugh and roll your eyes from under the blindfold.
“Stay here, I'll get the door for you.” Steve closes his door and jogs over to your side, grabbing your hand and helping you out of the car.
“Okay, there's a small hole there. Watch your step, okay now take a big one- not that big babe.”
“Can I take my blindfold off now?”
“Wait,” Steve said. You hear some shuffling around and then a sigh.
“Okay, now.”
You quickly take off the blindfold and let out a gasp. Your hands quickly cover your mouth as you recognize the familiar area you're in.
“How did you-”
“Oh c’mon, did you really think I’d forget our hideout area?”
You did. Steve would come tap on your window when his parents arguing would keep him up. One day, you both decided to take a walk, you weren't sure where you two were going but when you both came across the empty field things suddenly felt right. Steve didn't care that his parents argued almost every day, and you didn't care about the stresses of life. You remember nudging Steve with your elbow, muttering how he was it, and running away from him.
You look down and see a picnic blanket laid out for you as well as a basket.
“You did not.”
“Oh, but I did. See, this is a date!”
Steve sat on the blanket, tugging your hand down so that you could join him.
“I packed our favorites! Hopefully, you still like my mom’s strawberry lemonade.” he said while pulling out a small container.
And just like that, it felt like everything was back to normal. Steve finally felt accomplished as everything was falling back into place.
“So, I hate to ruin the mood,” he said while dusting his hands off. “But you never answered my question.”
You tilted your head to the side, confusion written on your face. “What question?”
“Why'd you stop talking to me after that night?”
Your posture stiffens and you play with your shoelaces not daring to look at him. You shrug your shoulders at his question.
“You're a shit liar.” he chuckled out while shaking his head.
“It's not even important Steve-”
“No, it is important. You're like…my everything. It was hard being without you.”
“You seemed fine to me.”
Steve is surprised at how fast his happiness has been replaced with frustration.
“None of that was real! I wasn't happy, okay? I got dumped by my girlfriend, and my friends were assholes who probably just used me and my house for parties. I needed you and you just,” he takes a deep breath trying to fight the stinging behind his eyes. “You left me. Like I meant nothing.”
Silence fell over the two of you.
“Please say something,” Steve whispered.
You sigh and look up at him. “This was a fun date. Thank you, almost made me think it was real.”
-
The car ride was a tense and silent one, not even the mixtape he made could lighten the mood. Steve parks the car in front of your house and you both sit there for a moment.
“Are we ever going to go back to normal?” he asks you quietly.
“Nothing about us was normal Steve. We were best friends who…held hands, cuddled in the same bed, and had late-night talks.”
“All friends do that.”
You chuckle and turn to look at him. “You cuddle Robin?”
“What? No-”
“Exactly.” You place your hand on his and lean over to kiss his cheek. “Thank you for tonight Steve.”
You exit the car stopping in front of your front door when you slowly make your way back to the car.
“I left my keys.”
A chuckle leaves his lips as he turns off the car and steps out to walk you to your door.
“Good night Steve-”
“I love you.”
“Steve-”
“No. It's my turn to talk. Well, I've been talking all night but that's not the point.” he takes a deep breath and wipes the palms of his hands on his jeans.
“I love you, a-and I know you probably don't believe me right now. Especially cause we haven't talked in a while but y/n, I love you.”
“Steve, I-”
“I know you won't feel the same way, I get that but I can wait. I don't care how long-”
You take a step forward, placing both hands on his face.
“You talk way too much, Steve Harrington.”
“I mean it.”
“I know.”
You never realized how close Steve was. His forehead was resting against yours and his eyes were closed as if he was trying to savor this moment.
“Do you know what I was going to tell you that night? The night you had Stacy over?”
He shakes his head no.
“I've been in love with you ever since I helped you find your stupid toys in my backyard.”
His eyes open slowly and a smile graces his beautiful features.
“Really?”
You nod your head and start to lean in.
“Really.”
“Steve! There you are, did you forget I was going to help you study?” Nancy said while stomping over to him. You slowly begin to pull away from Steve thinking that he was going to go back to Nancy before he spoke up.
“I told you I don't need help in English anymore!”
“How’s your history grade?”
“....bad.”
Nancy smiles at you and waves.
“NANCY STOP! THEY WERE GOING TO KISS!” Mike shouted from Nancy’s car.
An awkward chuckle left you as you waved at him.
“Hi, Mike!”
“Hi y/n!”
You turn your attention back to Steve and Nancy. His head is hung low while she scolds him about how he needs to take school more seriously. Once she's done with that she gives you a small wave while telling Mike to jump back into the backseat.
“So,” Steve said with a smile. “Where were we?”
You giggle and let out a gasp. “I need to tell Billy I can't go on that date with him after all.”
Steve scrunches his nose and brings you into his arms while peppering kisses along your neck.
“Don't worry. I'll make sure he gets the memo.”

Steve stood at the very front of the stage alongside Will, El, Dustin, and Lucas who were chattering excitedly. A decent sized crowd had formed behind them, making the atmosphere almost suffocating. The sun had gone down an hour ago and the lights of the stage were the only source of light within the vicinity. The stage was lit up and had all of the equipment set up and ready to go. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from the front and center of the stage that held a microphone stand. You were going to be there. And you were going to be singing. Singing right in front of him.
Robin had invited him a few days ago when they worked their usual Tuesday shift together at Family Video.
“Hey dingus, how come you haven’t been to one of our shows yet?” Robin tossed a tape onto the counter by Steve as she walked up to the opposite side of the counter across from him.
“I keep forgetting. Stuff just keeps coming up,” Steve shrugged, struggling to hide the pink that was now gracing his cheeks.
“You keep forgetting or stuff keeps coming up? Sounds like excuses to me, Harrington.” Robin raised an eyebrow, shifting to lean her elbows on the countertop.
“Whatever. When’s your next show?” Steve huffed, keeping his eyes trained on the computer. He knew Robin was grinning at him like a mad man.
“This Friday night. It’s gonna be at the fairgrounds. We’re using that stage.” Steve could hear the smile in her voice. “8pm sharp, Steve.”
“I’ve got it,” he waved his hand, attempting to sound disinterested.
“I know why you haven’t gone to one yet.” Steve finally turned to look at Robin, eyes narrowed at the girl.
“Do you?” He bluffed, standing up straight.
“Y/N is our lead singer.” Robin blurted out and Steve’s eyebrows shot up.
“That is not why– I mean why would you even? Why would that make me not go? I like Y/N.” Steve stumbled over his words, crossing his arms over his chest defensively.
“I know you do, that’s why you’ve been avoiding her.” Robin deadpanned, standing up straighter to match Steve. He wasn’t intimidating to her.
“I have not been avoiding her–” Steve started.
“So you admit that you like her?” Robin smirked up at him.
“That’s not what I said, Robin.” Steve groaned, throwing his hands up in the air.
“And you totally have, dude. She keeps asking me if she did something wrong to make you upset with her. Honestly it’s getting old and I’m tired of covering for your pathetic ass.” Robin raised her eyebrows, daring Steve to challenge her. Steve knew better. “You really hurt her, Steve. You’ve got to fix this mess.”
“I’ll go Friday, okay?” Steve sighed, letting his facade crumble. Robin’s lips turned upward and she nodded.
“Okay.”
“Mike’s been stressing over this all week. He’s played me the bass parts for their whole set at least fifty times.” Steve turned to look at the teens beside him. “I kept telling him that he’s gonna do great. He always does,” Will was smiling and Steve was too. Steve adored how much the two boys loved each other.
“That’s funny because I think Max maybe practiced for ten minutes before claiming that she’d do perfectly.” Lucas laughed and El nodded, a knowing smile on her face.
“Are you excited, Steve?” Dustin was speaking up, eyes finding his own.
“I mean yeah. Robin’s been pretty excited all week.” Steve tip-toed around your name but the teens in front of him all shared a look before El was speaking.
“What about Y/N?” Steve swallowed, forcing a smile onto his face. He was incredibly nervous to have to actually acknowledge you because then it made all of his feelings for you real. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to have his heart shattered to pieces again.
“She’s the lead singer, right?” He managed to get out, shoving his hands into his jean pockets.
“Yeah! She’s insanely talented. You’re going to be blown away.” Lucas bragged for you. Steve nodded and bit the inside of his cheek.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if she made a career out of it. She’s got what it takes.” Dustin added, elbowing Steve in the side. Steve glared at him, flicking the brim of Dustin’s hat down, blocking his vision.
“Maybe you guys are setting the bar too high–”
“They’re not. She’s good.” Will said cooly with a shrug. Steve sucked in a breath and bit his bottom lip. Why did he ever agree to be here?
“Here they come!” El cheered, pointing towards the right of the stage. Steve watched as Eddie, Robin, Max, and Mike all walked on stage, the crowd behind them yelling and applauding. Eddie picked up his guitar, taking the far left side of the stage and earning some screams from a few girls towards the back. Mike slung his bass on, fingers skimming over the frets and Steve watched as Will leaned in farther, eyes focused on only him. Robin took her place behind the keyboard, hands messing with the knobs and buttons on the instrument. Max sat down behind the drums, picking up her sticks and twirling them. She shot a wink over to Lucas and El and the two shared a smile with one another.
Steve furrowed his eyebrows. You weren’t there. You weren’t there. He didn’t realize he had been holding his breath till he was letting it out, shoulders falling. Maybe he had lucked out tonight.
The lights suddenly darkened and Eddie and Mike started the first few chords, the crowd going quiet. Robin joined in, fingers dancing elegantly over the keys. Finally, Max came in, striking one cymbal and foot punching down on the bass drum. Steve held his breath. He had gotten lucky.
“Every boy from here to Soho,” and Steve’s mouth had gone dry as your voice filtered into his head. He kept his eyes locked onto the microphone stand, now frozen. “Beautiful and smart, and not good for me at all.”
“Steve, look!” He faintly heard Dustin shout, but he was already looking. There you were, waltzing onto the stage as if you owned it. You approached the center of the stage. You still hadn’t seen him, but Steve knew that wouldn’t last long. He was smack dab in the front of the crowd, lined upped perfectly with you.
“All your girlfriends go to film school.” You sang, placing the microphone in it’s stand as you reached it. Steve barely recognized the cheering roaring behind him at the sight of you. You looked like a completely different person. The stage lights made your skin glow in the best way possible, the normal crease between your eyebrows was gone, and you took up so much space. Steve loved this look on you.
“Robin was in plays in high school– how bout that?” You turned, motioning to Robin behind you who shot you a wink.
You were fully aware of Steve in the front row. You had seen him standing there before the show had even started. You had been excited that he was there, since he was your best friend and you had a massive crush on him, but he had been ignoring you for the past couple weeks now. You had cried yourself to sleep for the past week wondering what you had done wrong. You were now determined that you were going to ignore him tonight. At least that’s what you had told yourself. But when the next lyrics rolled off your tongue, your eyes met his and you glared daggers into him, hoping that he could feel the hurt and anger laced in your voice.
“Me, I’m gonna play the imbecile, oh,” he was staring back at you, eyes wide and mouth hanging slightly open. “Who keeps choosing you even though you're bipolar and you’re selfish and I hate you–” You yelled into the microphone. You could see the guilt in his irises, but you tore your gaze away, sucking in a deep breath.
Steve couldn’t help but stare back as your gaze pierced through him. Will had even chanced a glance at the brunette, noticing the unwavering eye contact between the two. Steve felt the breath get knocked out of him as you looked away, anger written all over your face.
“Everyone is better than me, I think, everyone is better than me,” you turned around, strutting over to where Max was at the drumset, still singing but also sharing a moment with the red head. You weren’t going to make this about Steve. He had already robbed you of enough emotion this week.
Max grinned back at you, blue eyes twinkling in the stage lights. You smiled back, finishing the chorus and letting the rest of the band have their moment. Your friends were so unbelievably talented and you swore they never got enough credit.
Steve watched as you danced to the music, hair a wild mess and fingers gripping the microphone you held at your side. You looked so happy and carefree. Steve was sure that he would ruin that– ruin you. He wouldn’t let himself do that. You deserved the world and he didn’t have the world to give to you.
The instrumental quieted down and you were back at center stage, holding the microphone to your lips. Steve was dangling off the edge of a cliff, holding onto a rope, and you were the one at the top holding it; keeping him from falling.
“Look what you’ve done, now I’m a mess.” Steve drank you in, eyes finding each other again. He could feel you sawing slowly through the rope that was holding him steady. He barely registered the tremble of his hands.
“Are you okay?” Steve snapped his head down to see El standing beside him, worry pinched between her eyebrows.
“Yeah–” He breathed out.
“Yeah, everyone is better than me!” Steve’s head snapped towards your voice. There you still were, eyes narrowed and locked onto him.
Your eyes flickered between him and the crowd. “Throw your hands up if you agree with me!” You were angry. You were so angry. He had treated you like you were nothing for the past two weeks and he thought he could just show up to a random Friday night concert, front row, and look upset about it. You couldn’t help but single him out.
“Now everyone is better than me.” Steve’s ears rang, the volume of your voice making him dizzy. You were angry with him and it was all his fault.
“I think, everyone is better than me.” Steve felt his stomach lurch and with that he was pushing past people in the crowd. He needed to get out of there.
You watched as he disappeared into the crowd and you barely even noticed that you had dropped your microphone. The crowd of people in front of you cheered, assuming the mic drop was a part of the song as the rest of the band behind you continued to play. You stood there dumbly, blinking away tears that threatened to spill over your lash line. Steve didn’t care about you anymore. He had made that abundantly clear.
Suddenly the stage lights were entirely too bright, the instruments accompanying you were overwhelmingly loud, and the air around you was stuffy, choking you out. You felt sick as you turned, jogging off stage quickly. You heard as the band trailed off into silence behind you, Robin’s voice filtering through the microphone in a quick apology.
You ran until you were colliding with something, getting knocked on your ass. You hit the ground with an ‘oof’ and looked up. The breath was knocked out of your lungs as your eyes met Steve’s big, brown ones.
“What are you doing here?” The malice in your tone was a deeper cut in the rope that Steve was holding onto.
“I-I came here for–”
“You know what? It doesn’t even matter. Why would I care when you clearly don’t give a shit about me.” You cut him off, frustration seeping into your words. You felt the hot tears drip down your cheeks and you mentally cursed yourself. You hated that you cried when you were angry. It made you feel extremely vulnerable.
“Y/N, listen. I know I’ve been an asshole the last two weeks,” Steve started and you shook your head, standing up and hands balling into fists at your side. Steve stayed on the ground, head tilting up to look at you.
“Yeah, you have. I’m so glad you’ve noticed. You didn’t even tell me why, Harrington.” Steve flinched at his last name. It felt foreign coming from your lips.
“Because I thought it would be better if I didn’t.” He admitted, standing up slowly to meet you.
“That’s stupid, Steve. It felt like you just abandoned me.” You cried, avoiding his gaze.
“I’m sorry. I just didn’t want to get hurt.” Steve tried, avoiding the truth still. He didn’t want to outright say he was in love with you. His mouth felt impossibly dry.
“That’s selfish of you. And why would you ever think I would hurt you? I’ve known you for years, Steve! We’ve only gotten into one real argument!” You threw your hands in the air, voice cracking with emotion.
“No, I know you would never hurt me.” Steve argued, voice rasing with yours.
“Then why are you avoiding me like I would?” You yelled, no longer caring if anyone else would hear. You were incredibly confused and Steve wasn’t doing much to clear his name right now.
“Because I’m in love with you!” Steve’s chest heaved and you snapped your mouth shut. The only sounds that could be heard were muted instruments and crowd.
“Oh.” You choked out, blinking at him. And that was the final cut to the rope that held Steve there with you. Steve looked away from you finally, face crumbling and a hand running through his hair.
“Yeah, oh.” He breathed, clenching his jaw.
“Steve.” Your voice was gentle now and Steve wanted to look at you, but he was still falling from the rope that you had cut. He continued to look at the ground beneath him, acting as if the blades of grass beneath him were more entertaining than the girl in front of him.
“Steve, look at me.” And you were gently grabbing his chin, turning him to face you. He begrudgingly met your stare for what seemed like the millionth time tonight. “I love you too, dumbass.” You laughed, tears watering your words down.
“You love me?” He repeated, eyes searching your face for any signs of a lie. He found none and all at once the rope that had been cut was replaced by your hand, hoisting him up and over the edge to where you were.
“Yes. You should’ve just said something.” You smiled, tears still fresh on your cheeks. Steve decided that you looked ethereal that way.
“I’m sorry–”
“Just kiss me? Please?” You cut him off. Steve nodded before he leaned in, lips finding their way onto yours. You melted into him, arms circling around his neck and drawing him nearer to you. His palms laid against your waist and pulled you closer, thumbs brushing against your sides gently.
Will shushed Dustin, Lucas and El quickly as he stumbled upon the two of you kissing behind the stage. Lucas and El gasped and shared a look with each other at the sight of you two. Dustin wore a wide grin on his face.
“Dude, I told you!” Lucas whispered, punching Will playfully in the arm. “Pay up, Byers.”

Headcanons for being Peter Parker’s Younger Sibling
Peter Parker x sibling!reader
warnings: bullying mention, blood mention
a/n: a fuckin reach, its been a WHILE since ive seen tasm
prompt: y/n is peter’s sibling
Tumblr media
peter and you were playful kids
you were just a year and some months younger than him, so you had a harder time remembering your parents than him
but he always told you stories about them that made you miss them a little more
peter was a genius, we all know it
he was the one helping you with your homework most nights
“peter i cant do it!”
“that’s okay, y/n. look, start with two times four, that’s eight, then four times six, twenty-four, right?”
“can i say a cuss word?”
“sure”
“math is shit”
you would cry during homework a lot
you’d also pass out on his floor after talking for hours
and you’d either wake up facedown on the floor or in your room since uncle ben would pick you up and put you to bed
peter took it upon himself to take you back to your room, but he usually dragged you by the arm, sooooo
you’d play action figures together
he was batman, you were robin always
“can i be batman?”
“oldest gets to be batman so im batman”
“but i wanna be batman!”
peter walked you to your school before taking off on his skateboard
and he’d pick you up on his way home
on half-days your brother taught you how to skate
you fell a lot
aunt may had to patch you up
“how many times do i have to tell you those skateboards are dangerous?!”
peter got you your own skateboard so that you could practice without him
you would text him after you did a trick and he’d always say hell yes! show me when i get home!
being his photography assistant
really you were his assistant constantly
science fair was the most boring day of the year
“y/n, stand right here, i need to get something from my locker”
*judges walk up while youre left unattended and in a state of PANIC*
you were bullied in middle school, same as peter, he’d always stick up for you and get beat up instead
it made you very mad but it was scary, too
“how’d you get into this fight, peter?”
“oh, you know, just happened”
“peter was sticking up for me, uncle ben”
“was he now? you’re a good brother, peter”
lonely when he moved onto high school :/
but you got there soon enough
you guys were kind of loners, just ate lunch together, lugged around your skateboards, you were an artist, he was a photographer
just spectating the chaos of high school, rolling your eyes at the drama
“i have two bucks, do you want anything from the vending machine?”
“uhh, a coke?”
you saw peter get bullied by flash and lost your shitttt
you actually started a food fight after throwing mashed potatoes in his eyes
“what the hell, parker?!”
“sit down and eat your goddamn food, flash, or next time it wont be potatoes”
peter was half-proud, half-embarrassed
trying to see how long you could skate through the halls before any authority figures stopped you
sometimes......you guys got sent to the office together :)
*phone ringing* “hello, is this ben parker?”
“which one of them is it this time?”
the principal’s office was a trip sometimes
you and peter exchange your glances and wait to get scolded
“ah, the parkers, come in, lets have a chat...why do you two always feel the need to get in trouble together?”
“we just happen to get along really well for siblings”
no you fuckin dont lmaoooo
it was always something with you two
like always
*banging on peter’s door* “I KNOW YOU HAVE MY BROWNIES, PETER, GIVE THEM BACK”
*peter through a mouthful of brownies* “I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOURE TALKING ABOUT, YOURE CRAZY”
“is that my jacket?” -peter
“you mean my jacket?”
“y/n, i swear to god if you steal any more of my clothes it’s over for you”
“well, aunt may keeps giving me your clothes, so take it up with her”
and then there was just the little annoying things
“peter, can you stop clicking your pen?”
*clicks pen faster*
“you’re the worst”
and my personal favorite
“peter, open the door”
“why?”
“emergency”
*opens bedroom door* “what?”
“aunt may is making meatloaf”
“shit, uh...get your board, we’ll skate to mcdonalds and tell her we already ate”
peter and you RARELY ever brought your parents up until he found your dad’s briefcase, you didn’t have much to say
soon he was flooding his room with conspiracies and pulling you in to explain them
he began acting REALLY weird, but he was pretty open with you, he told you he went to oscorp
“YOU SNUCK IN??”
“your standards for me are way too high, y/n”
soon you started to feel not-so-good and weird things started to happen
“peter??”
“yeah? whats up?”
“this is gonna sound really weird...my hand is stuck to the door”
“it happened to you, too??”
“happening, pete. wait—this happened to you?? what is this???????”
yall done fucked up and got bit by spiders peter had so carelessly brought back into the house
it was an adjustment to say the least
and this adjustment got a whole lot harder that one night...you can remember peter just...so upset
you tried to chase him out to make sure he was okay, but uncle ben told you to stay with your aunt
maybe if you’d have been there...it would’ve been different, but when the cops got to your house you were at a loss for words
peter was covered in his blood still
“hey, hey, just breathe, okay? it’s not your fault, peter. just hop in the shower, yeah? i’ll take care of your clothes”
when peter took your advice and you were left alone, you just cried, you cried until he finally found you curled up in a ball in your room
then he cried, you just hugged each other sobbing your eyes out
peter got distant for a while, which was rough since the two of your were mourning for your uncle and dealing with these newfound powers
sooner or later he came around and helped you out, designing webshooters and a suit for you
“we match?”
*sigh* “yeah...yeah, we match”
ah yes, spider-team
you really tripped out new york at first, they thought spider-man was a teleporter
peter was still talking about your dad, but you really didn’t care, uncle ben was always going to be who raised you
you and peter would be covered in bruises after going out
“uh—peter punched me”
“y/n???!!!”
“I PANICKED”
just being dumb scared teens that cant function to save their lives until they get a little bit lucky
seriously like, every big villain you guys fought was just the worst
peter didn’t help all the time, he was good at provoking them sometimes
“hey, spider-man, you mind shutting up for a minute? for my sake?”
“sorry, sorry, just couldn’t help myself!”
he gushed to you about gwen stacy, he actually dragged you to her apartment to be patched up by her SEVERAL TIMES
yadda yadda yadda peter graduated high school! how cool is that? but he was late (what a surprise) even though you put off spidering today just for this
but he made it and you clapped the loudest for him
“thats my brotherrrr!!!”
cute family picture! (aunt may printed a bunch of them and gave them to you two and peter pinned them to his wall)
you and peter actually have a lot of pictures of the two of you just goofing off
he has one of you stuck in a trash can that cracks him up every time
seeing harry osborn again after YEARS
“wow, y/n, last time i saw you i just thought you were peter’s annoying little sibling”
“aww, it’s good to see you, too”
electrooooo
this guy really worried you bc like, bzzzz shock
you and peter weren’t equipped for that
it took a while, but you were finally able to deal with that
and several other problems
including peter’s breakup, which was a whole ordeal of its own
*peter laying upside down on your bed* “i dont know, y/n, you know? i wanna be with her so bad, i love her...but her dad is haunting me”
*you, drawing on your notepad with your legs propped up on his* “yeah, makes sense”
you actually had to tap out during the end of electro, you were hurt pretty bad
“y/n, hey? yeah, you’re okay. stay here, just stay right there, i’m gonna be back for you”
*thumbs up to show youre still alive*
but when peter came back for you there was bad news, he’d lost gwen
he ripped his mask off and fell to his knees, you could barely move but you powered through it, giving him a hug while he cried
“we...we better get home before aunt may starts to worry”
she was at work, so you two had the place to yourselves to clean up and mourn before the official news was revealed
“i should have listened to her dad, y/n, this is all my fault”
he was a mess, you couldn’t bare seeing him like this. it’s been so long since you’d seen him like this
the funeral was rough, peter was grasping onto your shoulder the whole time
he insisted that he was going to stick behind and stay with gwen for a while
“okay, i’ll see you at home...love you”
“love you too”
you gave him a hug and left him to his business, the next few months you were the only spider-person operating in new york...until rhino popped up
“im coming with you”
“you’re sure?”
“yeah, im sure”
(these are kinda ass but anyways im tagging my marvel ppl even tho ik this isnt mcu so just ignore this post if you dont care, sorry!!)

the lie
Tumblr media
gif by @harringtown
pairing: Steve x Reader
summary: Steve lets out a big lie to prove Mike Wheeler wrong, but it ends in his favor. (aka, the one time Steve Harrington thanked Mike Wheeler for anything.)
warnings: swears!
word count: 1.4k
a/n: this one is for @sourapplebaby luv u Syl
===
Steve knew he fucked up as soon as the words fell out of his mouth.
“Why isn’t Y/N here?”
“She has work,” Steve says. “She has a life outside of your basement, Mike.”
“Unlike you,” Mike retorts.
“Can everybody just calm down?” Will says quietly.
“When are you guys getting married?” Dustin asks, propping his head up on his hands.
A cacophony of voices ring out, Max and El’s the loudest.
“Yeah!”
“When is it gonna happen?”
“You guys are so cute!”
“Steve couldn’t get married if his life depended on it.”
“Shut up,” Steve hisses at Mike. “I am getting married, so there.”
Steve nearly slapped his hand over his mouth, guilt creeping over him. It’s the biggest lie of the century, but Mike is not allowed to win this one.
The room is deathly quiet until everyone erupts in cheers. Dustin tackles Steve, beating on him, shouting, “I knew you could do it!”
“She said yes? You’re really engaged?” Max asks, holding El’s hand as she bounces in her seat. “When did this happen?”
“Week ago,” Steve says quickly.
Mike’s eyes narrow. “So you’re really engaged.”
Steve doubles down, digging himself deeper into the absolute shitfest that was sure to spike from this. “I am.”
“So if I asked your girlfriend - excuse me, fiancée- she would be able to affirm?”
Steve nods. “That’s right.”
But, of course, Steve runs home and calls Robin immediately, unsure of how to go forward.
“I fucked up,” he admits.
“Typical. What happened?”
He explains the situation, and Robin scoffs. “Steve, you lied about something this big to - piss off a sixteen year old?”
Steve sighs heavily. “That’s correct.”
“You’re such a moron -“
“What am I supposed to do, Robin?”
Robin is dumbfounded. “Tell them that you lied? Tell her that you lied? Tell everyone that you lied?”
“No,” Steve says sadly. “Can’t do any of that.”
“Then what, Steve? What are you going to do when Mike confronts her?”
“You’re no help,” he groans. “You’re supposed to fix it for me.”
“Got yourself into this one, get yourself out of it.”
Robin hangs up, leaving Steve in silence.
There’s another reason why Steve is freaking out - the idea of being engaged made him excited.
It wasn’t something he really thought about. He wanted to marry you, of course, he just never anticipated when he’d do it. But it seems as good a time as any. You’d been together for three years. He knew that he was desperately, madly, completely in love with you. He knows he can envision having a family with you, in a little house in the suburbs of the city, with a cat and a dog and a big yard.
It all hits him at once, making his head spin. It was simply too much for him - he decides to push it down and stay silent about it all. You won’t find out, right?
===
You open your door to find Max and El on the porch. They grin widely as they see you.
“Ooh, look who it is,” Max croons.
You nod, confused. “It’s me.”
“Yeah, future Mrs. Steve,” El says.
“No, El - it would be future Mrs. Harringtown, or whatever his last name is.”
“Oh -“
You furrow your brows. “What are you two talking about?”
“How you’re engaged!” Max shakes her head. “Why didn’t you tell us?”
You stare at her with wide eyes. Steve had never proposed - holy shit, did he propose? Were you half awake when he did and you said yes? Were you tuning out his basketball talk when he asked and you just nodded absentmindedly?
No way, you think, looking down at your left hand. No ring, no proposal!
“I didn’t tell you because I didn’t know I was engaged,” you say slowly. “Who told you I was?”
El and Max look at each other, their eyes as wide as yours. “Steve did.”
“Steve told you that we were engaged?” Your voice is hoarse. “Steve told you? My boyfriend Steve? Harrington?”
“Just last night,” El says. “He told us at Mike’s.”
“Are you saying you’re not engaged?” Max asks.
You shake your head in disbelief. “I gotta go. I’ll see you both later.”
When you shut the door, Max looks at El. “Don’t tell Mike, he’ll have a power trip.”
===
Steve comes over later to see you, and you confront him right off the bat. His foot is hardly over the threshold when you ask, “Can you explain something to me?”
Steve shuts the door quietly, pupils widening. “Perhaps.”
“Can you tell me why Max and El came over today to ask why I didn’t tell them we were engaged?”
Steve blinks, then forces out a pitifully fake laugh. “What? Who would ever say that? I have no idea who told them something so silly.”
“Really? Because they told me they had heard it from you.”
Steve falters, then sighs. “I can explain.”
“You can’t just tell people that we’re engaged, Steve! You can’t just - just make that up!” You start to pace. “I mean - shit, Steve. I wanna marry you - of course I do - but you can’t just decide we’re getting married.”
He tries to interrupt. “Y/N -“
“I’d at least like a proposal, Steve, or a real talk about our futures before you start saying that -“
“Y/N -“
You turn your back to him, pacing again. “And you shouldn’t have children coming to tell me the good news. I think I should know about my engagement before them, don’t you think?”
He’s suddenly quiet, so you ask, “What are you doing?”
Nothing. You turn to face him, and he’s suddenly kneeling in front of you, a box in his hand.
Your mouth drops and your brows furrow. Your eyes well up with tears before you can even process what’s happening. “Steve, what are you doing?”
“Having a real talk about our future.”
Steve’s never been so nervous in his entire life. His body and his hands shake, but he starts talking. “My parents were never in love. I never had any kind of healthy perception of what love is. I only got some ideas from movies and my shitty friends.” He swallows. “So for a long time, I thought love wasn’t real, or it was this unattainable thing.
“But then I met you. And suddenly, the movies made sense. My mom used to play me these vintage romance movies, and she’d always tell me that a love like that never existed. But she’s wrong.” He shrugs. “About a lot of things, but especially this.” He sighs. “Okay, shit, my knee is hurting -“
“Steve -“
“I’m not done!” He smiles. “I never thought I had a future, either. I thought I was destined for the worst. My first job burned to the ground, I got roped into fucked up stuff, I have nightmares ... I thought my life was hopeless. But now, I can see a future. I can see us with a little girl and a picket fence, and a dog named Romeo. I can see so many pictures of us - of our family on the walls.” Steve licks his lips. “I can reach out and touch it, Y/N. Because it’s right there. And it’s real.”
You kneel down with him, watching him pop open the box. It’s a beautiful ring, one that’s old and storied and ready to be used again.
“I did get this from my mom,” he admits. “It was my great grandmother’s, or something. She said it was art decal.”
You laugh tearfully. “Deco.”
“Whatever,” he smiles. He takes a deep breath. “Will you have a future with me?”
You throw yourself onto him and he falls back, slamming against the carpet. Neither of you care, though - you kiss him passionately, nodding the entire time. Against his lips, you whisper, “yes, yes, yes!”
Steve feels like he just won the lottery. Like he’s the luckiest man on earth. He’s light as air, happier than he’s ever felt. It’s like he’s invincible, radiant, unstoppable. Like he’s home, like he belongs, like things are finally going to work out.
“This isn’t how it was supposed to go, by the way,” he jokes, sitting up. “But I needed to get you to shut up somehow.”
Steve slides the ring on, and it fits nicely. You laugh in shock and happiness. “I’m getting married!”
“Me too!” he laughs, tearing up. “We’re gonna do it!”
You reach out and wipe some of his tears away, caressing his cheek. “Steve, I love you so much.”
He takes your hand, pressing a kiss into your palm. “I love you more.”
“Not possible.”
“Wanna bet?”
And, as much as Steve hates it, he gives a silent thank you to Mike Wheeler.

Yeah, It’s Me.
This is an almost very late birthday gift to my dear @negativenuggetz. You deserve the world, and I hope you had a wonderful birthday! Thank you for being wonderful and always cheering me up. You deserve so much more than this, but I hope you like it!! (Mind the read more)
Read here on ao3!
5.  "Coffee." Steve muttered, and slid a mug toward where Billy was just staring out the tiny window in the kitchen of their apartment.
Billy smiled a little, wrapping his fingers around the warm mug. He took a grateful sip, and sighed a little. Steve always knows how to make the coffee exactly the way Billy likes it. He almost makes it better than Billy himself make it.
"You work today?" Steve asks. Billy nods. "Need a ride?"
Billy nods again. He doesn't really talk much since July a year ago. Doesn't have much to say anymore. Though that's not quite true. He's not sure he can ever explain how traumatic it was to speak in a voice that wasn't his.
"I've got work today, but I can drop you off, and then if you don't mind waiting about 45 minutes after you're done, I can pick you up again." Steve says, smiling happily. He slides some bacon and eggs over to Billy. Billy eats quietly, and Steve chatters away about something Billy doesn't listen to. He’s been distracted since last summer, and Steve never blames him for that.
Billy clears his plate, and wordlessly wanders into his room to change for work. He pulls his hair back as best he can, it's growing out since the summer, and Billy really likes its length now.
Steve is changed for work too by the time Billy is, his name tag affixed to the horrible grey shirt he has to wear at the Video Store. He's yawning and watching TV.
Billy wanders back into the kitchen to try and cobble together a lunch. He doesn't do very much of the shopping, his hours at the garage are long, and he's almost always exhausted when he gets home. Steve always shops for them. Billy always means to help more, but it never works out. He’s always so tired.
"Oh! Here." Steve calls, coming over and handing Billy a brown paper bag. Billy blinks.
"Lunch?" Steve says and shakes the bag a little at Billy.
Billy nods, and takes the sack from Steve.
"Ready to go?" Steve says, and at Billy's nod he grabs the keys and leads the way to the car.
The Camaro, Billy's first love, is still out of commission after the summer. He’d get it fixed, tow it to the garage and fix it when things are slow, but the car is collecting dust in the back drive of Cherry Lane. Billy can't get it. Much as he wants too. Neil’s got it held hostage. Steve gives him rides and seems all too happy to mother hen him but Billy misses his baby.
They pull up to the garage, and Steve smiles at Billy, bright and open. Billy's heart aches, how did Steve Harrington get so pretty.
"Have a good day! I'll be back at 7!" Steve chirps. Billy nods.
"Bye Harrington." He whispers.
Steve grins and pulls away from the curb once Billy gets out of the car. Billy clocks in and checks the list of cars, and the mechanics assigned to them.
"Hey there kiddo!" Bernie calls from the main garage.
"Good morning." Billy calls back. Bernie is Gary's wife, the two have been working at the garage for over 30 years.
Bernie chatters away all shift, but Billy doesn't mind. She talks about cars, and the people, and she doesn't care that Billy doesn't really answer.
"Your roommate drive you in?" She asks when they take their lunch break. Billy nods. He opens the paper bag and finds an apple, a sandwich, a candy bar, and a sticky note with a smiley face drawn on it. Billy rolls his eyes and starts in on the turkey sandwich.
"Roommate make the lunch too?" Bernie asks. Billy nods.
"You in love with him too, or is it just him?" Bernie asks. Billy chokes on his sandwich and gapes at her. She grins. "I ain't gonna tell anyone. I'm just askin."
"I…." He says. And then swallows thickly. "He's just… he likes taking care of people." Bernie grins.
"Sure, he does." Bernie says. "But I think yall love each other." She goes back to her cold pizza nonchalantly but Billy ignores her resolutely, desperately disputing what she's said in his head. It’s not true, Steve is straight.
He ignores her all afternoon, but when Steve's red Beemer pulls up, she wiggles her eyebrows at him and smirks. He blushes and scurries out to the waiting car.
"Hey!" Steve chirps when Billy climbs in. "How was your day?"
"Fine." Billy says, and can't help but watch Steve out of the corner of his eyes. Steve prattles on about some story at work.
Billy smiles at him a little and closes his eyes, listening to Steve complain about some annoying kid who apparently switched all the tapes and cases on the horror shelf, so he and Robin spent all shift sorting it out. It’s really nice, and Billy tries not to think about it too much.
4.  Billy is drunk. Quiet drunk. Quit Drunk. Qu... Qu... Very Drunk. Whatever. He's drunk, for the first time in a while. He fumbles with his keys for ages on the front step, mostly just dropping them and picking them back up over and over.
Heather had shown up a few hours ago, barging through the apartment door and demanding that Billy join her for a party in Roan. Billy hadn't quite had a reason to say no, so he went with her. It had been loud, and exhausting. But it’d also been good, he'd drank warm, flat beer, danced with Heather, and smoked a little. And Heather had stayed sober and driven him home, and watched him carefully to see if he needed anything at the party. He’d even flirted a little. (The guy did NOT look like Steve, shuddup Heath.)
She's sitting in her car by the curb to watch and make sure he gets inside the apartment ok. She’s mostly just laughing at his many failed attempts too hard to actually help him.
He eventually does, and stumbles inside. It's dark, and he squints around. He turns and fumbles with the door trying to close it. (His foot is in the way, which takes him way too long to figure out). A light clicks on in the hallway.
"Bills?" Steve's sleepy voice calls. "You home?"
"yeps!" Billy chirps. Steve laughs.
"How ya feelin?" Steve mumbles.
"Goooooods." Billy slurs. Steve laughs and motions Billy into the kitchen.
He pulls out some leftovers from his dinner, spaghetti and garlic bread, that he heats up and slides over to Billy. Billy tucks into the food and eats quietly, this time because he’s inebriated. Steve sits at the table, adorably sleepy, in old basketball shorts and a giant stretched out hoodie, that he's pulled over his hands. He smiles softly at Billy whenever Billy looks at him.
"Tell me about the party." Steve whispers.
"Itssss fine. Loud." Billy says.
Steve nods. "I believe it. I'm glad you went."
"You are?" Billy whispers.
"Yeah, you're looking more like your old self." Steve says. Billy is too drunk to piece that bit together, so he just finishes his food.
Steve sits there and watches him for a while, knee pulled up, cheek resting on it. Billy shoves the plate away. Steve stands up and clears the plate. He ruffles Billy's hair a little on the way to the sink. Billy sighs happily, and rests his forehead on the table.
"Stevie, I'm vary drunk. Berry Drunk. Very Drink. Drunk. Issss drinked." He mutters. Steve chuckles from behind him.
"Yes, I can tell." He says.
"I'm soooooooooo sleepy. Hey Pretty Boy! Can Isss ask you something?" Billy mumbles.
"Of course, what's up?"
"Do weeeee has ice scream? Frozen milk? You know? The sugar and the cold. You know?" Billy says and then sits bolt upright. "Stevie! Oh mys god, tell me we have icescream!!"
Steve laughs. "We always have ice cream Bills." He pulls out the tub and dishes it up, sliding it to Billy again. Billy grins and digs in. Steve rolls his eyes and goes back to the dishes.
Billy almost falls asleep into his ice cream, but he finishes it. He only drops the spoon four times and he even tries to clear the dish. It's just basically a lot of fumbling around and Steve takes the bowl from him, laughing.
"Come on, bed time." Steve says, tugging Billy toward the bedrooms.
They rented this tiny two-bedroom apartment above Melvald’s after the summer, as soon as he was released from the hospital. Billy couldn't bear to live with his dad anymore, and Steve's parents kicked him out when they found out that he hadn't gotten into college.
It's got two tiny bedrooms, and one bathroom. Their furniture is all mismatched, and Billy is sleeping on a mattress on the floor, but they are out from under parents that hated them.
Steve eases Billy down onto his bed, and helps him out of his boots.
"Stevie?"
"Yes Bills?"
"I'm tired." Steve laughs.
"I know, we're getting you to bed." Steve says. "You want your jeans off?"
"You jus' tryin tah get me nekkkkkkid." Billy slurs, doing that closed eye drunk squint thing.
Steve laughs. "Sure, that's what I'm trying to do." The sarcasm is lost on Billy, but he’s not really paying attention.
He hauls Billy up, and helps him undo his button and fly, then slide out of the jeans. (Billy had worn underwear to the party because he knew he wouldn’t be getting any.)
Steve has to basically shove him back onto the bed, and he pulls the covers over Billy.
"Goodnight Bills." Steve whispers, and combs his fingers through Billy's hair for a minute. Billy's eyelids droop.
He's asleep before Steve even leaves the room.
"So, this boy put you to bed?" Bernie creaks the next day, in her raspy voice.
"Yeah." Billy says.
"Fed you, took off your pants, shoes, and put you to bed?" She asks, one eye brow creeping up.
"Yeah?" Billy says, eating the sandwich Steve made him.
"Boy, that man loves you." Bernie says. Billy rolls his eyes.
"He does not, straight remember?"
"Sure, he is, you keep thinking that." Bernie says, getting up to greet a haggard looking man walking toward the garage.
3.  "Ok, so, I work all weekend, but the kids wanted to come over Saturday night, for movies. Dustin already gave me a list." Steve says, eyeing the notebook page where he'd scribbled his schedule. "I know they are a lot, but Max misses you."
"Ok." Billy says, and then slides the piece of paper with his schedule over to Steve.
They do this every two weeks, when they get their new schedules. Billy needs rides, he doesn't like the bus, and his coworkers can't pick him up often.  Bernie takes him home sometimes, but Steve doesn't mind helping.
"Holy crap, Billy! Why are you working like 10 hours on Saturday?!" Steve cries, gaping at Billy's schedule.
"Only time we could get the school buses in for detailing before school starts." Billy mumbles.
"It's Hawkins, there's like four school buses." Steve mutters.
"They take a while, and we have some other cars that need finishing." Billy says. Steve sighs.
"That sounds like hell. Well, I can take you to work, and pick you up if you want that day, Tuesdays and Wednesdays you'll need a ride home." Steve says. Billy nods and makes a note on his schedule to ask Bernie, or maybe Sam. Sam works at the garage too, but he's attending college a few towns over, so he can't work as often.
Steve moves on, puttering around the kitchen making a grocery list, and Billy drifts off to read on the couch.
The week passes like usual. Work is busy, but Billy loves getting a car running again. He also rarely deals with clients. People expect a certain amount of brusqueness from their mechanic, and they don't mind if he doesn't talk much as long as the cars run again.
Saturday morning, he and Steve get up bright and early. Steve gets ready for work, makes them both lunch and coffee. He takes Billy to his job, two hours before Steve has to be at his own.
The school buses are all nightmares, and even with Sam, Bernie, Gary, and Billy all working on one, it takes them nearly the whole shift to get them working again on the school’s budget. They also get two of the really nice cars in from Loch Nora, for oil changes, but their owners demand full inspections. By the time the shift is over, all of them are exhausted, sacked out around the break room, with the fans going full blast. They all have shoved their coveralls down to their waists, and everyone's under shirts are riding up.
"Are those from…" Sam asks. Billy glances down and sees the edges of his scars peeking out under his white tank. He blows out a slow breath.
"Ay! Sam! Fuckin' rude man!!!" Bernie snaps, her usually cheerful demeanor squashed by so many hours working.
Sam looks sheepish and goes back to standing in front of the fan.
The official public story is that Billy was caught in the mall fire rescuing El and the kids. He was badly burned and had to be in ICU of the hospital for three weeks.  That's all people know.
Billy self-consciously pulls down his tank and drops his head back to the couch.
"Billy?" Steve calls.
"We're in here hun!" Bernie calls. She's known Steve for years, her daughter used to babysit him when he was little.
"Hey Mrs. Hannan, Mr. Hannan." Steve says.
"You can call me Bernie; we've been over this honey." Bernie says. Steve rolls his eyes and nods. Gary nods at him, but doesn't say anything, he's exhausted.
"Ready to go Billy?" Steve asks. Billy nods and gets up, nodding to everyone.
"See you Monday Billy." Bernie calls. Billy nods again and follows Steve to the car. They are both quiet on the way home, Steve knows Billy is drop dead tired.
Once they get home, Billy nods at the kids piled all over the couch and heads to the shower. Max waves and settles back against Lucas.
Billy takes a long shower, trying to work all the grease out of his hair. He doesn't quite manage it, but he gives up when the water runs cold. He hops out of the shower, slinging the towel around his waist. He wipes off the mirror and stares. The scars have fades to pale pink right now, but they are raised and a little lumpy. He sighs, hating them. But the doctors said there was nothing they could do for them. He just has to live with them.
He pulls on a comfy shirt and flannel sleep pants. Billy steps out of the bathroom and tosses his work clothes toward the laundry pile in his room.
"Billy? Dinner's ready!" Steve calls.
Billy doesn't reply just heads to the kitchen. He stops short in the doorway. Steve is fighting back the kids from the piles of food on the table, armed with an apron and a spatula. One plate is piled with steamed broccoli covered in cheese, steaming still. Another is filled with crispy breaded fish, and there is a mountain of French fries next to it.
"I said wait! Billy gets to get food first!" Steve says, physically holding Dustin back.
"But I'm hungry!" Dustin whines.
"Tough shit, you guys are animals. Jesus." Steve says, and then grins at Billy.
"Hey! Come get food! These kids are gonna demolish this." Steve says, glaring at Lucas when he moves closer. El giggles.
Billy walks over and grabs one of their mismatched plates. He takes several pieces of fish, handfuls of fries, and a huge serving of broccoli. The second he clears the table, Steve sighs.
"Alright, go ahead you monsters." Steve says, and steps back as the kids swarm the table. Billy sinks onto the couch, and takes the cold beer Steve hands him. Billy takes a careful bite of the fish, and nearly groans at the taste.
"Is it good? I asked my aunt in Maine for the recipe, she used to live in Cali. Finding fresh Cod was a bitch. Is it good?" Steve asks softly. Billy nods.
"I love fish and chips, and broccoli." Billy says. Steve smiles.
"I know, I asked Max what your favorite food was. Your day was so crazy, I wanted to make you something good for ya." Steve say, and then leaps up to break up Mike and Dustin, who are fighting over the food.
Billy frowns at his food, but he's too tired to wonder why Steve went to all this trouble. He doesn't know where one would even buy fish in Hawkins, but it's the freshest he's had in a while. (Still not as fresh as Cali, but fresh for Indiana.)
He's so tired, and the food is perfect, so he shrugs it off and tucks in to his dinner. The kids all pile on the couch or floor with their plates and Steve puts in some alien movie that the kids watch raptly. Billy falls asleep half way through, with Max leaning against his side. Steve helps him to bed again, smiling softly.
Bernie cackles on Monday when Billy tells her about the dinner, and mutters at him about roommates and being in love. Billy wonders how life got to the point where his best friend is a fifty-year-old mechanic. Her and his roommate. Life is weird.
2.  Billy has come a long way in the months since the July 4th battle. He saw a therapist for a while, and still goes in every few weeks for check ins. He took his meds diligently, and was given a prescription for depression and anxiety, that he mostly doesn't take, it's for emergencies.
Billy probably should have taken one before bed. He'd been yelled at by a rich housewife, who thought he'd broken her car (he hadn't), then Sam had dropped an entire tool box, causing Billy to startle so bad he'd spilled hot coffee all down his front. That had immediately reminded his of constantly being scalding hot with the monster in his brain. Then he'd dropped a tool on his foot. To top it all off, he'd forgot to tell Steve that he worked later today, so Steve wasn't able to pick him up, and Billy had had to catch Hawkins’ only bus, which was crowded and awful. Billy was quiet all through dinner and had gone straight to bed after, falling into an exhausted sleep.
It hadn't been peaceful for long.
In the nightmare, Billy was walking through the mall, begging the Mind Flayer not to do it, to find someone else. It had whispered in its horrible voice, that Billy was the best choice, and together they would create perfection. Billy was so tired, and couldn't fight. Couldn't fight as it killed the kids, one by one, Max last. He'd screamed, begged her to run, but she hadn't, couldn’t. But then the mind flayer dragged Steve, bruised and bloody, forward. Billy had screamed and fought, begging not to kill Steve. The mind flayer hadn't cared, and had bent to kill him.
Billy sat bolt upright with a scream, clawing at the shirt plastered to his chest with sweat. The light in the hallway clicked on, and the door banged open as Steve rushed in. Billy jumped and pressed himself into the corner, staring in horror at Steve.
"Billy, it's me, you're safe." Steve whispers, crouching near the bed.
"Steve…." Billy breathes.
"It was just a nightmare, you're ok." Steve says. He gets up quickly, turning on the floor lamp in the corner, and disappears into the hall. He comes back a few seconds later with a glass of water. He sets it near Billy, but doesn't hand it to him. Billy would be grateful if he had any thoughts to spare.
He chugs the water, and the looks at Steve for a long moment.
"You ok?" Steve whispers.
Billy takes a deep breath. "Mind flayer is gone right?" Billy whispers. Steve nods.
"Yep, we killed it, don't worry. We got it." Steve whispers. Billy nods.
"It was just a nightmare, I promise, you're safe." Steve says again.
"Don't think I can sleep anymore." Billy whispers a few minutes later. Steve frowns, checking the clock, proudly displaying one am.
"You need to sleep Bills." Steve whispers.
"Can't. Nightmares travel in packs." Billy mutters. Steve laughs.
"What if I stay?" Steve whispers.
Billy levels him with a look. "I'll sleep on the floor, but sometimes having someone nearby can really help." Steve whispers. Billy sighs.
"If you need to." He whispers.
Steve smiles, and gets up. He leaves the hall light on, and then turns out the light in Billy's room. Billy lies down, and wordlessly lifts the covers to let Steve in. Steve slides beneath the covers and sighs. "Not a word Harrington." Billy grumbles. Steve chuckles lowly.
"Wasn't gonna tell a soul, but we've been living together for too long for you to call me Harrington again." Steve mutters.
Billy just grunts. "Go to sleep Bills."
"You sleep, Stevie." Billy mutters.
They both lie there for a while, and Billy's head spins. Steve is here, in his bed, breathing softly. Which brings up the whole mess Billy has been ignoring for too long: that he's utterly gone on Steve Harrington. Has been since first seeing him a year ago on the basketball court, all sweaty and flustered.
And it's only gotten worse since moving in together.
Although, its mellowed slightly. In high school, Billy wanted to fuck Steve's brains out, or maybe have Steve fuck his brains out. Either way, Billy only really wanted to have sex with Steve. But since the mind flayer, and almost dying, and then moving in with Steve, the feelings have mellowed.
It's more focused on Steve himself. Billy wants a life together, to share a bed with Steve, to hold him, to be held by him at night. To sit next to him on the couch and lean into him, because he's exhausted. To hold his hand on the car ride home, to kiss him quick when he gets home. To go out with Robin and Heather to restaurants, so that they can go on dates. He wants the freedom to roll over right now and throw his arms over Steve, snuggling closer.
"You ok, Billy?" Steve whispers.
"I thought you were asleep pretty boy." Billy mutters.
"Nope." Steve says, popping the p. Billy rolls his eyes. Steve chuckles.
"I practically felt you roll your eyes." Steve sasses. Billy chuckles a little. They lapse into silence again.
"I'm not gonna bite ya, Bills." Steve mumbles.
"I know." Billy whispers. Steve shifts around until he's lying on his side facing Billy.
"Go to sleep, you look exhausted." Steve whispers.
"Thanks, Steve." Billy snarks. Steve laughs.
"Fine, I'm exhausted. So quit thinking and go to bed." Steve snaps. Billy laughs, and takes a deep breath. Steve's eyes have dropped closed, fluffy hair flopped around the pillow, and long lashes dusting his cheeks. Billy takes a slow breath, trying to match the rhythm of Steve’s.
His eyes drop closed, and before he knows it, he's asleep.
Billy wakes up to Steve's alarm blaring in the other room, snuggled into Steve's arms.
"I can feel you overthinking, already." Steve mutters. "Give me a minute, I didn't want to get up and wake you." Steve squeezes Billy tight for a moment.
Then he gets up and goes running into his room to dress for work. Billy sits alone in his room, trying desperately to find his footing again.
Steve doesn't bring it up at breakfast though, or for the rest of the day, so Billy grudgingly leaves it alone.
1.  Billy sort of falls into a downward spiral after that night. He withdrew more into himself over the next weeks, and is quiet at work, home, and everywhere in between. He had nightmares every night. And every night Steve slipped into his bed and held him. Billy pretended it didn't mean anything, but he clung to Steve.
"You don't have to talk about it." Steve whispered one night, running his fingers through Billy's hair. "But I'm here if you want to."
Billy nodded a little, and pressed closer, letting himself have this comfort, as much as he could.
"I'm scared." Billy confessed, a little while later. Steve was quiet, but Billy could tell he was listening. "I'm scared it'll come back, and that it'll make me hurt you and the kids."
"Oh Bills." Steve says, pulling Billy closer. "It's gone we got it, killed it, closed the gate. And even if it came back, we'd stop it again." Steve pulls back a little and looks Billy dead in the eye. "I will always come to find you, always. I promise." Only Steve can look this serious at butt fuck o’clock in the morning, talking Billy down from nightmares. Billy sighs and snuggles closer.
"I'm gonna hold you to that Harrington."
"You got it Hargrove."
They curl around each other and fall asleep like that.
Eventually Steve just starts going to bed in Billy's bed, which finally stops the nightmares.
Billy feels like maybe it's something they should talk about, something they should address. But Steve doesn't bring it up, just continues to live his life like normal, so Billy does as well.
But every morning he wakes up in Steve's arms, it's hard to remember that they aren't together like that. And that Steve is straight.
As October wears on, it's hard to remember that they haven't always done this. Billy tries really hard not to think about it, but it's almost constantly on his mind.
"You ok?" Bernie asks on their lunch break. Billy just grunts. "That aint an answer."
Billy sighs, and mumbles an answer under his breath.
"Didn't quite catch that hun." Bernie says, far too chipper.
"’M in love with my roommate." Billy mutters, and pauses, holding his breath. He can feel his heart pounding. Coming out in the past has not gone great for him.
Bernie whoops and thumps his shoulder. "Damn right you are!!" Billy raises an eyebrow at her. People in California were a little more liberal with this, they didn't care much. (In some neighborhoods they did, but in most they didn't). But this is a small-town Indiana: they aren't the most openminded people.
But Bernie is smiling so big, Billy's a little worried she's gonna hurt herself.
"So, you two handsome young men together yet or what?" Bernie asks. Billy rolls his eyes.
"Gross Bernie. He's straight remember?" Billy says. Bernie rolls her eyes.
"Please, I've seen the way he watches you, he's not straight."
"Creepy Bern." Billy says. Bernie grins and bumps their shoulders together.
"I think he's in love with you, that's all I'm saying." Bernie says.
They sit in silence for a while, Bernie munching on her pretzels, Billy eating his apple and mulling that over.
"Bernie?" Billy asks.
"Yes, Honey?" She says immediately. Billy is struck by how much she's like a mom to him, and how much he appreciates it.
"You don't mind that I'm…." Billy trails off.
"Oh honey, of course not. My daughter, you remember Shawna?" She asks. Billy has met Shawna like one time, she lives in Seattle. Billy isn't sure what she does. "Shawna lives with her girlfriend in Seattle. Shawna is a lawyer out there, and Christina is a teacher." Bernie sighs a little. "They have to pretend to be roommates, but me and Gary know that they are together. I love her with my whole heart, no matter who she loves."
Billy blinks a few times and accepts the hug Bernie pulls him into.
"You're wonderful, don't let anyone tell you different." She murmurs and then releases him and gets back to work.
Billy thinks about it all day, and on the entire bus ride home. It’s funny how casually Bernie said something that he’s gonna think about for the rest of his life.
He unlocks the door at home and steps in to see Robin and Heather curled together on the couch, and Steve sitting in the sagging armchair.
"Hey Bills, how was work?" Steve asks. Heather and Robin twist around and grin at him.
"Fine. Hi Heath, Buckley, what are you all doing here?" Billy mumbles.
"Steve asked us over for movies." Robin says.
"Yeah, I wanted to be around their gross happiness." Steve snarks.
"Gross happiness?" Billy asks, eyebrows furrowed.
"I asked her out like a month ago, and she said yes. Which you'd know if you hung out with me anymore." Heather snarks. Billy grins at them.
"Sorry, work." He says, and goes to shower.
When he gets out, the others have ordered pizza and are gathered around the coffee table. They don't hear Billy coming back down the hall way.
"Come on Steve, just tell him. Yall already sleep in the same damn bed, I think he's there." Robin says. Heather nods.
"You are the only person he trusts; I swear, I think he's into you too." Heather says, shoving pizza in her face.
Billy backs up and deliberately steps on the trick board in the hall way.
By the time he rounds the corner, Steve has a plate of pizza ready for him. Billy sits down and smiles at him.
"You've got some grease in your hair, Bills." Steve says, reaching out to comb it out with his fingers. It's a little stuck in there, but Steve gets it eventually. Billy is helpless to do anything but stare at Steve the whole time.
He blushes a little when Steve finally looks away. Robin and Heather shoot Steve meaningful looks, and everyone turns back to their pizza.
After their meal, Robin puts on the Breakfast Club, and curls up with Heather on the couch. Steve settles back in his chair, Billy leaning against it. Steve reaches down and gently kneads the sore muscles of Billy's shoulder, without being asked.
Billy tries very hard to forget what he heard. But his mind whirs the entire time, wondering if Bernie was right. And what Heather and Robin possibly meant by what they said.
+1.  Billy wakes up at eleven on his day off to some moron honking out in the parking lot behind Melvald’s. Billy's window faces the parking lot, and the honking literally will not stop. Billy groans and glances over at the other side of the bed. It's empty, which is odd, because he always wakes up to Steve. He frowns and stands up, the hoking continuing behind him. He turns to peer out the window, ready to flip off whoever is honking. His jaw drops when he sees what's outside.
Billy grabs his boots and puts them on while trying to run to the door. He falls a few times and barely makes it down the stairs without dying. But he stops short on the gravel of the parking lot and gapes at the car sitting there. Steve climbs out of the driver’s side and Max jumps out of the passenger seat, both grinning.
"Holy shit." He whispers. Steve's smile stretches a little wider.
"Surprise!" Steve cries, bouncing on the balls of his feet.
Billy is speechless, gaping at the car.
Max apparently can't keep quiet anymore, she's practically vibrating with excitement. "We got it back from Neil, for your birthday!!! I had Mrs. Hannan at the garage fix it up during your off days, or the days you wouldn't notice. It runs like new and Neil gave me the keys." Max cries. Billy really thinks he might cry.
"You got my Camaro back." He whispers. Steve nods.
"It was all Max really. I was telling her that I wasn't sure what to get you for your birthday. She suggested getting the car back." Steve says.
"How?" Billy whispers.
Max sighs a little bit, and smiles. "I just kept bringing it up that it was taking up space every day for a while." She smirks. "He hates clutter, you know that. So, one day he was standing there glaring at it, so I said maybe Steve wanted it."
Steve jumps in. "I drove over there and bought the car. Max and I drove it to the garage and talked to Mrs. Hannan. She promised to fix it. It was done yesterday, but I wanted to wait until today." Steve says. He tosses Billy the keys, and Billy smoothly catches them. He just stares transfixed at the car.
"She's here." He whispers. Steve and Max crack up.
Max runs over and hugs him hard. "Happy Birthday, Billy. I love you." She says in a whisper.
"I love you too." Billy says. "Thank you."
"Of course, you earned it." Max says.
"I forgot it's my birthday." He whispers. Max laughs.
"It's ok, you've been working so much.” She doesn’t say that he’s been through a lot, but they all know it.  “But Steve remembered, and I did, so don't worry."
Billy hugs her again, and walks up to the car, trailing finger tips on her hood.
"I'm gonna take Max back to the Wheelers’ house. Go driving, I know you want to." Steve says, grinning, and jumps back into his own car. Billy wonders briefly if he caught the bus to the garage or something to pick up the Camaro.
Billy slides into the car and can't keep the smile off his face as he peels out of the lot. He whoops and goes flying down the dirt roads near Hawkins like he used to.
He had worried that being back in the car would bring up bad memories, but it doesn't. It's just freedom, and wonderful.
He drives for an hour and a half before he goes back home. He's exhilarated when he gets back, and baking the car into a spot next to Steve’s makes his smile stretch.
He's still grinning when he walks back inside. Steve is sitting on the couch and grins back.
"Good to have the Camaro back?" Steve asks. Billy nods.
"Hell yeah. Thank you, Stevie."  Billy says.
Steve just beams, and then turns back to the TV. Billy hangs his keys up on the other hook by the door, and settles on the couch to watch too.
Steve gets up later to figure out dinner, and Billy goes to his room to grab his book. He doesn’t mind a lowkey birthday, because just him and Steve is perfect. There’s a wrapped package sitting on his pillow.
Billy goes to open it, but stops and opens the card.
Bills, I know I got ya the Camaro back, but I thought you should have this too, cause it’s your birthday.
Love, Steve
Billy gapes at the card. Then it all sorta slots into place. All the little things Steve does for him. The rides, the lunches with sticky notes with silly doodles, the dinners made painstakingly from scratch, the casual touches and the way Steve mother hens him always. They are sleeping in the same bed for god’s sake!
Steve got his car back, from Neil who surely didn’t offer a fair price. Billy rips open the package and swallows when he finds a new Stephen King novel, and several new pairs of earrings. A dangling spike like the one he lost last July, a skull post earring set, and two sets of silver hoops with thin dangly knives and feathers respectively.
Billy swallows and dashes out to the kitchen, where Steve is comparing two take out menus.
“Hey Bills, you want Chinese or Thai?” Steve says.
“You love me.” Billy whispers, still in shock.
Steve sighs and sets the menus down. “Listen, I don’t need anything more, I’m so happy with what we’ve got now, like seriously, so happy. I totally get it if you aren’t into me, it’s all good. I’m fine, I just want you to be happy.”
“You’re straight?” Billy mumbles.
“No? I’m bi. I like both? I came out to you when we moved in?” Steve says. Billy believes him, but he hardly remembers that.
“Oh.” He says. Steve frowns.
“I’m sorry, I don’t want you to feel any pressure, I can move back to my own bed.” Steve mutters.
“I kinda thought we’d move to your room. Your bed is better.” Billy says, that old snark making an appearance. Steve’s head snaps up.
“What?” He says. Billy crosses over to him and grabs the front of his shirt.
“I’m in love with you too.” Billy whispers. Steve’s eyes widened.
“It’s you, and I can’t believe it took me almost a year of living with you to see it, but we have spent too long apart.” Billy whispers. They both sway toward each other, mouths meeting in the middle. Steve’s arms wrap around him, and Billy holds on tight.
“I love you.” Steve says, breathless.
“I love you too.” Billy replies, and holds one tight. They don’t need any more words.
The transition from roommates to boyfriends is seamless. They do move into Steve’s room, and turn Billy’s old one into a guest room. The sex is great, when they eventually get there. Being openly loved by Steve doesn’t magically solve Billy’s body issues, but Steve is patient, loving, and wonderful.
The kids are all disgusted and simultaneously glad. Robin and Heather apparently have been betting on how long it would take them to get together. (Heather made 20 bucks.) Bernie whoops so loud when Billy tells her, that Gary comes running down from the upstairs office to make sure nothing bad has happened.
She crushes him into a hug and Billy holds on just as tight. “You deserve this, every moment of it! You deserve the world and that boy is gonna give it to you.” She cries. Billy laughs, and when Steve picks him up, Bernie wolf whistles until Steve kisses him, right there in the garage.

They're sort of a fandom but Batfam!
Tumblr media
thanks guys!!! this got so long omg, I’m so sorry dsjkfhdskajh
my favorite female character: CASSANDRA MFING CAIN. She is simultaneously one of the most badass characters I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing about, while also being just……….so adorable. Like, I love that she can be the scariest and most competent Bat (she is absolutely 100000% the next Batman I do not take criticism) but also, she’s such a sweetheart. She really loves people (Steph and Duke especially so), she’s an amazing friend and sister, and she is just so authentically herself and does what she wants when she wants, and she works so hard for everything, and I just. Oh my god I love her so much.
my favorite male character: this is so difficult but I have to say Dick Grayson. I Must. He’s basically what started all of this!!! I mean yeah okay Bruce was first, but Robin/Dick is what made Batman interesting and was the first member of the batfam, the one that made it a real family. In addition to that, Dick is just??? So interesting?????? He was the first kid sidekick, he lead the Teen Titans teams, he’s always kind of existed in this place of being the lighthearted one with the Batfam, but the serious one in most other contexts. HE REBELLED FIRST. Nightwing is a fuck you to his dad!!!! I love that! Plus he’s beautiful and has some of the best love interests (I’m talking about Kory and Roy here folks). He’s imperfect and has such depth and I love him kdsjfhjkdshfah
my favorite book/season/etc: I actually really like all the stuff that comes after Bruce “dies”? Seeing them all struggle and fight with each other and everything is really interesting. I love Tim here especially, just bc he’s so fucked up and such a teenager. When characters seem to be having two totally different conversations are SO INTERESTING and that’s what was kind of happening here with Tim and Dick – Tim feels betrayed and hurt, Dick feels stressed and like Tim is ready to move on. And Damian is just an adorable little asshole ksdjfshkjhakjh
my favorite episode (if its a tv show) issue: look I’m a sucker for Dick & Jason feels and I really enjoyed their moments (however few there are) in NTT/Tales of The Teen Titans/etc. They’re pretty small but so cute – it’s really nice to see them trying to figure out how to be brothers!!
my favorite cast member: David Mazouz!!!! Perfect perfect perfect Bruce. I also did like Batfleck, more for the look of exhausted 40 year old man than the story/characterization, but David takes the cake. He does all the different facets of Bruce – traumatized child, obsessive teenager, Brucie the party animal, etc – so well, PLUS THEY HAVE THE SAME BIRTHDAY. It’s meant to be yall
my favorite ship: most of my Batfam ships are one batfam member/one non member (like Dickkory/Dickroy, Dinahbabs, Timkon, etc). the only one fully in the fam would be Bruce/Talia. When written correctly, they are so sweet and so tragic. The star crossed lovers trope has never looked so good as it does when its them.
a character I’d die defending: Damian!!!! Admittedly I do get annoyed by him,,,, a lot,,,,,, but really. He’s a child who’s been abused and manipulated and lied to. He was raised in such a dangerous, traumatic environment, and I fucking hate when people act like he’s always going to be the annoying, murderous brat he was when he was first taken away from that environment. He has to heal, and he IS healing. He loves animals so much, he learns to love Dick (and at least get along with the others), he makes friends, he doesn’t kill anymore. He is doing better. There’s no fucking way he ends up as cruel and cold-hearted as some people insist he will. If you don’t like him, just shut the fuck up
a character I just can’t sympathize with: Babs. It’s not that I can’t sympathize with her, it’s more that I just don’t like her lol. I find Batgirl!Babs really boring and regressive for literally everyone involved. The way Babs became Oracle was gross but it gave her such GROWTH and she got to be her own character as Oracle (and also tell people off for pitying her bc she’s in a wheelchair). Batgirl was passed on to Cass, who is both Asian and disabled rep, then to Steph, in a way that was much healthier for the Batgirls than how Robin was passed down. Babs being Oracle gives even more rep to disabled children/girls in wheelchairs, and she isn’t stuck in Gotham! She isn’t part of the Batfam, she’s a Bird of Prey!!!! So much more interesting!!!! Plus D*ckB*bs is boring as fuck and does a disservice to both of them. Let them grow and be their own people and stop making me see Batgirl!Babs alongside Robin!Damian. DC, that’s illegal!!!
a character I grew to love: Talia. I was sadly infected with the Grant Morrison bullshit when I first joined the fandom and I hated Talia. But I’ve read more comics and metas about her and I just. I LOVE HER. She is such a badass and I find her motives (when well written) to be really interesting!!! She’s loyal to her dad but wants the best for Damian, and does have genuine affection for Bruce and Jason. She’s not the heartless woman some people/writers make her out to be, she has compassion and drive. She doesn’t care what people think about her. I want to marry her sdkjhfjksah
my anti otp: Jason/Roy. In any context other than RHaTO, it makes no sense and does a disservice to both characters. Jason and Roy would not want to be together in most reboots of DC, because of the connection with Dick. Would you want to date your asshole older brother’s ex/best friend? Would you want to date your ex/best friend’s little brother? Would you like to date a man with that history who is also struggling with severe trauma/addiction issues (respectively) and doesn’t get help for it because of bad writing? Imagine Roy looking Dick in the face and saying “yeah, I’m fucking your little brother, who I sort of knew as a pre-teen”. In RHaTO, this is mostly fine bc Roy and Dick have no relationship at all, and Jason needs someone to take care of, and Roy is so incompetent that he fits that bill. But ANYWAYYYYY point is, I refuse to read fics with this ship in it thank you goodnight
send me a show/movie/fandom and I’ll answer these questions!!

Dick Grayson x oc
Uhh I made star fire mean in this one and some sexual references
“And robin, you will take this lovely young lady to her junior prom” moth dude says and shows this annoying blond chick calling him Roby-poo and I stifle a laugh
“And Luominen you will take this young man” he shows us this guy who looks super uncomfortable but he’s actually kinda cute if only he wasnt with the bad guys
“Moth sir, she really doesn’t have to,” he says and I smile
“YES SHE DOES, IT THAT OR THE CITY BURNS” he booms
“One moment please” as we drag Starfire away
“ We can go keep him on end while Star, Cy, BB, and Ray find out what the connection is and save everything,” I say
“And we can keep an eye on each other” robin adds and I smile until star gives in
“Yeah ok well do it,” Robin says
“Ask her!” moth guy says and robin and the video guy start at the same time stop and video guy gets all embarrassed
“Uhh also you should probably know my names Jupitar,” the tv guy says as robin asks kitten is apparently her name
“ see you tonight,” I say and they leave and I pull up the communication device
“Are you guys coming or what?” Cy asks
“We cant star will help you find the connection between these two kid and moth guy ok,” I say and Cy looks confused
“Why aren’t yall coming to help,” Ray asks
“Because Ray we have dates” I smile and robin looks pained
“With each other because, I’ve seen it coming but now isn’t a good time,” BB says and my eyes widen, I’ve always liked Robin, he intelligent, funny, and altogether just hot but he’s never shown any interest in me so I assumed friends was as far as we could go
“BB no bad guys the kids we have to take to prom, and I have to get a dress” I laugh and close the device
“Star go we have the stuff to do” I smile and she flys away I go to change and robin grabs my arm to stop me
“Are you actually happy about this” he accuses
“Look, Rob, I never got to go to my prom, I turned into Luominen and dont get to live my life as s- as me anymore so yeah I’m excited, but he’s not the date I want” I stop after almost revealing myself, I pull my arm and walk away
“I would go get ready if I were you,” I say and finally get to my room, and raid my closet for something ohhhhh this one, I change into the sleeveless red dress I found that accents my curves without looking trashy and it has a slit in the bottom stopping mid-thigh, I do my makeup even though I still have my mask on and curl my hair and put on the heels, I walk to the living room area and think about how I should get there if I should drive or ask robin to take me on the bike I know he will use to get there, no ill just drive, I head to my car when I literally bump into Robin,
“Wow you clean up nice” I smile at him but he doesn’t respond just staring at me I see his eyes go up and down
“Earth to Robin” I wave my hand in front of his face and he shakes his head
“You look wow, uh we should go” he stutters and I smile
“Ohh, I was just leaving I was going to drive but apparently you had other plans” I smile and I can tell he rolled his eyes
“Let’s go” he grabs my hand and leads me to the bike we get on and once we get to the prom a pink limo pulls up
“Ohhhh Roby poo I’m so glad you came as my date to the prom,” the kitten girl says the way to loud wrapping herself around him and then I see Jupiter come around the other side and smile at me
“Hey, wow you look beautiful,” he says and I blush and look down
“Thanks, you dont look to bad yourself” I smile at him
“I'm really sorry about all of this, I never wanted this to happen, I had just mentioned to my sister that I had a minor crush on you and then this happened, I never wanted it to go this way” he smiles and we walk in as robin looks miserable, we get in and I smile,
“Wanna dance, or just look awkward all night,” I ask and he smiles as we go dance
“Why are you being so nice to me,” he asks and I smile
“Well one because your sister is insane, and two because you dont seem to want all of this” I smile as I see a robin and whats her name dance and a small part of me wishes it was me he was with instead until
“Get away from my girl” and the spider dude drops in
“Fang you do care” she squeaks and they kiss
“So we good to go now?” robin asks and she looks at us
“Never, give my brother the night to remember, kiss him or the whole city goes” and I panic as she has the button out, I look at Jupiter and he already has his eyes closed so I suck it up and lean in and close my eyes,
“No” I hear and then I’m kissing him, its actually a really good kiss until I hear a squeak
“That’s the wrong guy you whore” and my eyes snap open to see a robin and we pull away but she clicks the button
“We will talk about that later” I snap and he blushes and we all fight until everyone’s in handcuffs even Jupiter
“What?” he asks and I look at him
“I know you didn't want this but you still went along with it so jail time for you as well,” I say and he looks down but goes willingly
“And this year’s prom queen and king are robin and Luominen” and he looks at me
“I think I have one more dance in me” he smiles and takes my hand
“So what was that,” I ask
“What was what” he pretends to not remember
“Oh I dont know how bout when I went to kiss him you yelled no and jumped in to kiss me instead,” I say
“I uh, was trying to save you and we happened to kiss?” he says as a question
“Uh, huh, so if I went to that prison truck, and kissed him you’d just let me because it was my choice right,” I ask and he nod
“Ok I’m gonna go give him that kiss” I let go of our dance to walk over to him but robins grip on my waist doesn’t allow me to
“Dont, please, why are you so caught up in this anyway,” he asks
“Look robin, I became Luominen at 15, I’m 18 now and I should be having my own prom but because of my powers I can’t even go to school anymore, so I wanted to be normal for tonight, have the dance, and kiss on the dance floor, or at the end of the dance, I wanted my normal night” I look at him and he smiles down at me
“Well I can work that out, I mean you do have a ruggedly handsome superhero here, its a dance floor, I could kiss you,” he says almost shyly
“Robin I can’t do that, because as awkward as it may make this, I’ve always had some feelings for you and if you kissed me again, id fall more for you than I already am, and I know you dont feel that way for me so no,” I say and he lets go of my waist
“Yeah that’s what I thought” and I turned around to walk-off I just decided to walk back to titans tower and was about halfway there when the rain starts pouring down probably my fault as I can create based on my emotions.
“Get on the bike” robin yells but I dont stop walking
“Please Lu just get on the bike” he begs and I look at him
“No, ill walk thanks” I respond
“Please your gonna get sick,” he pulls over and gets off the bike running to me and I dont stop, except when I’m picked up and thrown over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes
“Let me go you asshat” I snap but he just sets me on the bike and gets on and starts driving once we get to the tower, I get off and start to walk inside
“Why are you so mad at me lu, I never even answered you,” he says
“You didn't have to, the way you looked at me the way you instantly let me go, all signs of disgust, dont worry tho I get it, it’s fine but you dont get to act like its normal either anymore, because it’s not and we both know that, and I’m mad because I let myself get there, I let my self fall for you and open up to you knowing you were into Star, knowing I wouldn’t be enough,” I say with tears in my eyes
“I wasnt disgusted honestly you’re beautiful and amazing and anything I could ever want, I was surprised, because here I was falling completely in love with a girl I dont even know her real name, and she took me off guard, also I’m not into Starfire shes just my, friend,” he said and I looked up at him and he kissed me, not the panicked one like before but, slow and hot like he was proving I was the one he wanted when we pulled away
“Sandy” I breathed out
“What” he questions
“My real name,” I say and he smiles, kissing me again but this time he picks me up bridal style bringing me into the tower we are both laughing until we see everyone standing there with pizza and Robin freezes
“Hi guys” I laugh
“Looks like they had their own celebration in mind” Raven laughs and everyone else does but Starfire
“What I do not understand,” she says
“They where probably gonna do the dirty deed, horizontal tango” BB laugh and star looks pissed
“ they would only do that if they were together and they are not together” she snaps
“Uhh yeah actually we are gonna go figure that out, in, my room” Robin rushes out the speeds walks up to his final setting me down
“You never even put me down” I laugh and he blushed
“I panicked ok” he defends
“Oh I bet, at least you picked me up bridal style not another way” I laugh and he smirks
“That was not an invitation” I smile and he fakes a pout
“Oh come onnnnnnnn” he whines and I kiss him
“We do actually need to talk about what we are,” I say and he looked down at me
“What is there to talk about,” he asks
“Are we together, are we not together, are we just messing around that stuff” I add and he smiles pulling me closer as I hadn’t realized I was pacing
“Of course we are together, mine now, and we will definitely be messing around” he winks and I release a sigh of relief and kiss him
“Pardon me the door was open, am I interrupting,” Starfire asks
“No at all, what’s up,” Robin says awkwardly and I mumbled yes under my breath
“Well I felt that before you made her your choice you should know that I also have the romantic feelings for you” she adds and I flop on the bed well it was a nice few minutes while it lasted
“Star that’s sweet, and I’m really sorry but I’m actually really into sa- Luominen,” he says and I punch his shoulder after almost revealing me
“Ouch I didn't” and I smile
“Oh I see, however, am I not prettier than she is, she is not as good as me, so why choose her,” Star asks and I look down, she’s right, how could I ever compare
“What did you say” he snaps and her eyes go wide and I instantly go to stop him
“Robin no it’s fine honestly” I grab his arm but he shakes me off
“Get out,” he says almost to calm
“GET OUT” he yells at her when she doesn’t leave, she then jumps out and he slams the door on her
“Robin what was that, it’s not like shes super wrong,” I ask he doesn’t answer just grabs me and pulls me into a very hard kiss when he finally pulls away I’m hurrying for a breath
“She’s right, you aren’t as good as her, your better, and also its Dick,” he says and my eyes widen
“Really that’s the card your puling now, you want to have sex?” I snap as I pull away from him and he busts out laughing
“Why are you laughing,” I ask confused
“Babygirl, Dick is my name, short for Richard,” he says with a huge smile on his face and I turn red
“I-i'm so, I’m so, I’m so sorry,” I say and he just laughs pulling me into him wrapping his arms around me
“Sandy it’s fine, that was by far the cutest misread of my name ever tho” he smiles and I hide in his chest
“I'm so sorry Dick,” I say again as he laughs
“I'm serious dont be,” he says and I smile up at him again and kiss him when there’s a knock at his door I move away from his death grip on my hips and open it and see BB and raven
“So wanna explain why are Stars crying?” BB asks and I look at him and roll my eyes
“Because she was being rude, she literally came in and asked me to choose her and when I did she said she was better than Lu, rudely so I told her to get out and when she didn't I yelled get out” Dick comes up behind me saying that and I nod
“Fair enough,” Raven says going to walk away but BB grabs her arm
“ you need to apologize to her” BB demands
“Ok ill go talk to her,” I say and then I’m wrapped in chains so I look at the raven
“Me or you?” I ask and she laughs
“You” I nod
“I guess I won’t be going to apologize, and you can’t get mad because I dont have complete control over this,” I say as BB looked pissed
“You done here?” Dick asks and BB looks surprised as the door closed in his face a few minutes later I’m able to get out of the chains, my powers allow me to create things according to my emotions, so the rain was when I was sad but the rain didn't go away when I was happy again, it was apart of the weather then, the chains were now physical things because I felt trapped
“ you didn't get your dream prom but would you like that final dance and kiss?” Dick asks and I smile at him and nod and he spins me around as we dance in our soaked clothes and dance around his room until we are both tired and in the last moment he kisses me
“ I think I’m completely in love with you,” he says and I smile looking up at him
“I think I’m completely in love with you as well!” and kiss him again that night!

10 Animations (and games) that made my life a little better
So for my first post I’d like to just share my appreciation for 10 animations I really felt a connection to, whether they were emotional, out of fascination or just pure amazement. I have no “rules” for what kind of animations they’re gonna be, aside from them being animated (Shocker I know).
So yeah, I hope yall enjoy this list, and leave a comment about some of the animations that left you with a smile on your face!
#1- Wall-e
I’m gonna start of this list with my favourite animated movie (or just movie in general): Wall-e. It’s no secret that Pixar makes great animations, and I know I’m not the only one who loves this movie. What really captures my attention is the feeling of soltitude and ambience shown throughout the first act of the movie, until Eve arrives. What I find great about this part is how much “show don’t tell” is used, to describe to us, the viewers, about the post-apocalyptic world.
Being that the main character almost never speaks, repeating alot of words or lines when he actually does, makes it super duper cool how the animators used visual storytelling to show us how the world has gone to shit, as well as Wall-e’s expressions and sounds to pinpoint exactly how he feels.
If you haven’t seen this movie, I highly reccomend it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#2- Ori and the Blind Forest
For my second pick I chose one of my favourite games, name is in the title. For me, this game has everything: Awesome music, tight gameplay, a flubtastic story, and smooth animation. Playing this game really felt like going on a journey through a MAGICAL world, where anything could happen! Even though this game was the source of alot, and I mean ALOT, of ragequits, it still brought me back every time. The art in this game is fenomenal, and combined with the animation I really feel it when Ori, the game’s main character, flies through the world, up and down walls and through changing environments.
Also Managing those difficult jumps feels really satisfying!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#3- Death Parade
There are alot of animes out there (yes I’m a weeabo), but there’s a few that I’ve really enjoyed, Death parade is one of them. It’s opening might trick you to think you’re gonna watch a friendly, happy-go-lucky show about different people living in purgatory, but you couldn’t be more wrong. It’s dark themes and how it tackles different topics about human pshychology with a touch of humor and warmth really got to me. I felt a connection with the main character in a way I haven’t with any other characters in anime, and the realization about the main characters fate (no spoilers), really worked for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#4- Night in the Woods
I really love this game. I don’t know if it’s the overall great stylized aesthetics, the great, great music, the amount of clever, funny voicelines given to the characters, the characters themselves, showing multitudes of different personalities and charisma, the general story of the game, the oh-so-smooth animation or the underlying themes of friendship, anxiety and an existential crisis that grips me. I might have a clue though.
This game really delves into the greater questions about life in a really humorous and philosophical way, and i loved every step of the journey. It has really worked as an inspiration for me when it comes to creativity and life itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#5- Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse (trailer)
I’m just gonna throw this out here first to clearify: As of the date I wrote this list, the full movie wasn’t out, so I had just the trailer to go by.
Ok, I’m not gonna lie. The moment I saw the trailer for the spider-verse movie my mind. Was. Blown. The animation in this video is perfect. It’s the amazing mix between cycadelic cartoon meeting animation. The colors are vibrant, the animation is smooth as butter, and the textures really capture the comic-feel of everything. Along with me being a Spider-man fanboy I really love the whole concept of the spider-verse, and I can’t wait for this movie to come out
I hope Spider-pig is in it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#6- Animator vs. Animation (the whole series)
If you watch alot of animations on youtube, you’re bound to come by one of these videos. Made by Alan Becker, Animator vs Animation is a series about an animator (You don’t say), who has to fight his own animated stickman. The genious about these videos is how it’s animated. The animator uses different tools in the animation program, as well as the computer and even phone, to really make it seem that he’s fighting with a virtual stickman. Getting better and better for each video, you can really see how different principles of animation are applied, to make for a really cool untraditional “stick-man fight”.
The series is pretty funny and shows you how creative and meta you can get with animation. Just don’t come to me if your pc is attacked by a small stickman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#7- Angry Birds - Piggy Tales (The first two seasons)
NOW BEFORE YOU LEAVE THIS BLOG IN DISAPPOINTMENT AND ANGER, let me just say that there’s a special reason as to why I chose this, out of all things.
There was a period in my life where I was going through some rough things, and I spent a lot of time cooped up in the hospital. As I didn’t have a lot to do, phone games became my rescue, one of them being angry birds. I remember getting 3 stars on every stage (get on my level noobs), and having fun watching the different animations the creators of angrybirds made.
That being said, Piggy Tales is actually a funny short show, made on computer to resemble clay and stop-motion animation, making use of physical humor and slapstick. The animation is pretty smooth and funny, where different kinds of settings are explored each time.
Be aware though, as the third season shifts from clay-like animation to more refined animation. This might be off putting for those who found the clay-style appealing.
Piggy Tales are short but many, so if you wanna kill some time, this might be a good time-assassin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#8- When Marnie was there
I had to include a Ghibli film here, I mean come on! Which one was the question though, but I was kinda allready set on one in particular. “When Marnie was there” is my favourite Ghibli film. I feel like it really connected with the movie in a weird beautiful way. The themes I saw and experienced throughout the movie, might not have been the same as the ones the writers and producers saw. opr me though, I felt like the movie really showed what it can feel like to be alone. Along with beautiful music and composition of scenery, the movie really grabbed me from the get-go and didn’t release me until the credits started rolling. What I was left with was a feeling of solitude, but at the same time I felt grateful for having friends and family, and for being part of this journey we call life.
Conclusion: Anime makes you feel feelings.

#9- Sly Cooper (trailer)
As with the Spider-verse, this is only a trailer, since the movie has been either cancelled or suspended for a long time.
The Sly Cooper games were the first games I ever played on a home console, so they have a big place in my nerd-soul. So when a movie was announced, I was well on my way to the cinnemas, even before the trailer was released. When I saw the trailer though, I was overwhelmed with just pure good-feels. The character-designs had changed to give them a more natural look, but it worked really well in my opinion.
As for the dialogue, the voiceactors were the same as the ones I grew up with, aside from the main character, Sly, but I let that slide since the new voice actor, Ian James Corlett pulled off Sly’s charcter pretty good! The animation of him jumping, sliding and running through the city also matched the way it felt playing the game, and doing those exact same actions.
If the movie ever comes out, I’ll be the first in line by any sacrifice necessary.

#10- Pooh’s Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin
To finish of this list I thought I’d share a piece of nostalgia! Though It’s been a long time since I last saw it, this movie was a big part of my childhood! Now don’t make fun of me for choosing a kids movie for this list, I still think this movie has a great story and music, along with the animation and background-paintings. Besides, making fun of me makes me sad, and I’m a big boy so I’m not supposed to cry.
This movie really excels at showing how vivid our imagination can be. Every scary location in the movie is shown at the end to be a reimagined version of reality, emphasizing just how much a kids imagination changes the world around them.
