hi cc, what is the idea of you and what are people hating on it?

Hi anon. I will put my answer below because is too long and I'm unable to explain it short.

The idea of you is a book that now is having a screen adaptation on prime, here is the trailer. Acording to the author Robinne Lee she was inspired by a guy in a boyband, here is her quote:

A few years ago, my husband was away on business and I was up late surfing music videos on YouTube when I came across the face of a boy I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise. It was like…art. I spent a good hour or so Googling and trying to figure out who this kid was and in doing so I discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted. When my husband returned a couple of days later, I joked with him that I’d found the perfect guy and I was leaving him and our two kids, “oh, and by the way, he’s half my age.”

So basically initially she was inspired by Harry Styles, here are some tweets of her talking about the character. Then in other interview mentions that is a combination of different guys:

I made him into my dream guy,” she told me, “like Prince Harry, meets Harry [Styles],” plus a couple of ex-boyfriends, a little of her husband, and a dash of Eddie Redmayne.

I think the movie is being controversial because first is inspired by Harry dating older women since he was younger, according to the author the character is 20, but the womaniser image that Harry had and that likes and dates older women and this image started when he was 17, a minor.

This idea of Harry liking older women, just reduce him as an artist just to that image that has been know for the general public is just frustrating. And also in the articles and social media talking about the movie they had been making the comparison between photos of Nicholas and Harry.

Nicholas said this quote about if the character is inspired by Harry Styles:

“We tried to create a character that felt, you know, a kin to Harry in a sense that he’s a younger man dating older women. It was important to create someone who felt new and original and not a shoddy impersonation of this person.”

Anything that mentions Harry Styles will always bring attention and clicks so the promo of the movie know what they are doing, and this is nothing against Nicholas, the book is just inspired by Harry and the movie is promoted with that idea.

Now the second problem is that the songwriter and producer of the album of the movie of this fictional boyband is Savan Kotecha. If you are not aware he is a producer and songwriter and was involved with One Direction since The X Factor and work for the first two albums of the band. Savan is a person not liked in the fandom, because he basically never wanted the boys to be part of the songwriting, he saw the band as this machine, never saw the boys as artists and said awful things about Louis. He is one of the persons responsable that Louis didn't get that much solos, read this transcript for more info.

Savan also in that interview explains that couldn't see the boys as this grown young adults that wanted to write songs, because he knew them since they started and didn't think they would have the ability to do so (he was wrong as we know). So Savan left after the second album, now his association with this movie that is related to Harry and 1D is his way of trying to stay relevant again in the fandom.

This is my perspective, but anyone can have a different POV of what the movie is hated and probably they would explain better than me. Sorry for the long response as you can't see I can't write short answers.

How could I neglect to mention the main reason for the continuing dominance of the Scandinavian pop music complex in my discussions over that? You are correct, we have to mention their claim to fame, which were not the illustrious Europop tunes. Sure, the latter did give someone like Max Martin a demo reel, but his collaboration with Britney Spears sent him into the stratosphere. Speaking of her – there is a lot of a retroactive listening present with the tunes of her, since her entire situation has been revealed. The piece on the link, for instance, did feel like an intentional provocation at the time, yet the circumstances behind her status back then make this hard to listen. While she does sound liberated there, the whole conservatorship issue put this into a different view.

These mainstream music critics all sound so angry that someone dares to succeed despite their predictions, which have been decided and curated by the industry.

Pop music critics aren’t immune to the influence of money, and in fact are no longer independent of industry. Critics appease industry to gain access to the biggest pop stars, the ones who bring readership and ad revenue to prop up their dwindling livelihood.

There’s absolutely no need to punch down on a musician who has obviously been blacklisted by an entire industry so that an industry-anointed ex-bandmate could “shine,” as it were (through sex appeal if not actual talent).

And yet they don’t hesitate to spew angry and unkind words: the repeated reminders of Louis’ family tragedies, the reiteration of the same lines Savan Kotecha used years ago— not the best looking, not the most talented, not the best singer, etc.

Their actions bring to mind a Shakespearean line, “Methinks the lady doth protest too much.” 😌

If Louis Tomlinson is such a nobody, so uncharismatic, so common (the classism there!), such an undeserving, working class lout, it must drive the industry crazy that he’s still touring (and selling out) the same arenas that Harry Styles toured just last year?

He’s still able to get a #1 UK album? Still able to have thousands line the streets for him? Still have hundreds of fans wait for him outside his concert venues just to wave hello? Still able to bring strangers together to celebrate life and hope? Still able to sell £millions in merch? Still able to write and sing incredibly validating, life-affirming, emotionally honest, funny and witty songs, and stay humble and kind?

How fucking dare he.

How fucking dare his fans.

The critics tried so, so hard.

Louis is supposed to be crying into his pillow every night from his “lack of talent,” supposed to have disappeared into the ether, but instead he’s going on a real world tour? Visiting countries that never saw One Direction? With an incredibly close, joyous crew that has fun on the road, and openers who love him. Louis has the respect of technicians working on his tour because of his intelligence, patience, and ideas. He’s building a career from the ground up, with actual music. With no payola, no radio support, no critical acclaim.

No wonder they’re so angry.

He has always said that he didn’t particularly enjoy wmyb. So it’s not a surprise that he’d say what he did. He doesn’t seem to have had a good relationship with the song writers. Harry did say in an interview early on that Sarah and Claire (former keyboard player) worked on reworking the song and a rock vibe wasn’t really what they heard in the song.

The writers of that song were assholes. Particularly Savan Kotecha. I can understand him not wanting to give them any positive reinforcement. I don’t recall Harry saying that about Sarah and Claire. That’s interesting.

So apparently Savan Kotecha is working on some of the soundtrack for the "not 1D harry movie."

If you aren't familiar, he was one of 1Ds producers on their first and second album. In an interview he did about 1D he talked shit about a member [louis].

So a still pressed and rude MFER who doesn't like louis is working on the soundtrack of a movie mirroring H womanizer image of "younger man dates older women" specifically during mid 1D when he was only 19/20 time frame WHAT A SURPRISE.

With the interview he did seems like this MFER is just pressed he wanted to keep 1D in a stereotypical boybander box bc he thought their a boyband made for young women not "real" musicians and louis knew they were capable and should change up their sound. So after convincing their label to let them change, louis got all their producers fired and was the driving force behind MIDNIGHT MEMORIES.

Oh you don't like louis bc he was right ??

With said song for said album a possible UAN rejected demo.

Savan is a pthetic ass person who needs to get a better life !!

(I often wonder what the less famous people think now that they treated him poorly as a kid and he is massive now). Gordon Smart (1:12, warning he follows it with a bad anecdote about 18 year old H), who worked on media for One Direction, said in 2020 that Harry had said:

"Simon Cowell actually paid me to do some media training with them back in the day so I met them before they were massive and they were again really lovely kids. [...] I wrote a front page story about him sharing a jacuzzi with a girl on holiday and he told me it was bollocks and we still ran it, because we had a picture of him in the jacuzzi. First confirmed at Ben Winston's with Morgan Spurlock in April 2012, Harry later told Rolling Stone he stayed there 20 months. He was seen house hunting in July and reports of his house were September 2012.
