I had jokingly asked my teacher if I could do it on fantasy technology (fabrials because I’m currently re-reading Stormlight for the 3rd time in 15 months)

she says yes

later I panic and say “how do fabrials work” as my research question.

I now have to write 3-4 pages on Fabrials.

I cannot tell it this is a win or a loss

I do not typically read sci-fi (other than Animorphs) but I decided to give this series a shot and I really enjoyed it!

Spensa is a lot of fun! I loved her voice! And yet, despite her bravado, she really struggles with her role in the war. I appreciated that she was a more realistic person than most YA protagonists.

I also really liked the fast-pace action of this series. Unfortunately, that's where I found my only issue with Defiant. The last battle is split between multiple points of view, which I felt really slowed things down. I understand why it was necessary and I do not think that the last scenes could be written any other way, but it still felt really jarring and a bit disappointing.

At least the friendships were still beautiful, the characters were all interesting and the book ended with the promise of future adventures! A great read!
