here’s why hum hallelujah is fall out boy’s best song, no contest or competition.
under the cut because it’s long.
hum hallelujah comes from infinity on high, which is one of fall out boy’s best albums-- commercially speaking, it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, compared to FUTCT’s peaking at number nine, and FAD at number eight. IOH charted top five worldwide, even making the list for that year’s top 50 albums.
Fall out boy is well known for two things: patrick stump’s incomprehensible vocals, and pete wentz’s iconic and nuanced lyrics. it’s no secret that TTTYG and FUTCT (et al) were filled with both of those things, but I don’t think that anything hit quite as hard as infinity on high, and more to the point, Hum Hallelujah.
see, hum hallelujah does something that all of their songs do: it takes metaphors, analogies, common phrases, and twists them. it makes them into something new with so many layers that the english major in me spins. there’s no right or wrong answer about interpreting the lyrics, because so many layers are built into it, a truly multifaceted song. But it adds something else. Hum Hallelujah adds religion into it, as a core part of the song.
during this dissection, i’m going to be treating the “I” in the song as a narrator, and “you” as the listener/audience, although you can substitute the “you” to mean a separate third person, and that the audience is merely privy to the story.
we start hum hallelujah off with:
“It's all a game of this or that, now versus then Better off against worse for wear“
listeners have probably heard someone being asked or told that it is a choice between this or that. that’s the common phrase we all know. fob adds now versus then, and follows it up with “better off against worse for wear”. so now the choice is not this or that-- it’s “do you want to be better off or worse for wear?” and those are the two options that the narrator sees happening. Their common theme? The narrator and listener are separated. When someone leaves, you are either better off or worse for wear, but it’s not until they’re gone that you’ll know.
“And you're someone who knows someone Who knows someone I once knew I just want to be a part of this“
we’ve all heard that before. “i knew someone who knew someone” etc. fob adds to it. the stretch between the narrator and whoever it is is a gossamer thin thread, but they want to be part of it so badly, they are desperate. another common phrase flipped and made new.
“The road outside my house Is paved with good intentions“
The common adage “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” is here. The listener is well aware of what the implication is. The narrator’s house is hell, without even needing to be told. This is the first instance-- but by no means the last-- of Hum Hallelujah’s religious inspiration.
“Hired a construction crew 'Cause it's hell on the engine“
and they complete the above phrase, but with a choose your own adventure of what it could mean. Is the narrator trying to fix up hell? Is the narrator hiring a construction crew because he’s trying to get out of hell and his car can’t make it? Is it simply another play on the phrase?
The first, but by no means the last.
“And you are the dreamer and we are the dream I could write it better than you ever felt it“
they take a step back from the religion. now we go back to futct’s fundamental lyrics, about being lonely and disconnected from love. You would think that the dreamer would know the feeling better than the dream. After all, how can a dream know the feelings of the dreamer? And yet there is this smug phrasing that implies that the narrator is just that good.
and though this is the first mention of lyrics that will tie into hum hallelujah’s ultimate theme of desperate love, not a single line outside of that scope feels out of place in the song.
“So hum hallelujah Just off the key of reason“
when someone hums, obviously they’re going to be in a key, if not the key of the song, and the narrator says just off the key of reason. Does he want the listener to be reasonable? Or is the narrator saying that the reader is not reasonable? You could say he’s telling the listener to hum it, and therefore saying that the listener shouldn’t be reasonable, but the point is there’s so many dimensions to these lyrics. There’s so many different dimensions, and no necessarily wrong way, but the rest of the song leads the listener into one specific viewpoint.
“I thought I loved you, it was just how you looked in the light“
a common trope in love stories is that how someone looked in a particular lighting made someone else think of them differently. it also could refer to new information, something shines a new light on them. it could be a trick of the light. the narrator thought he loved the person, but it was fleeting, it was fair-weathered, it was temporary.
“A teenage vow in a parking lot 'Til tonight do us part“
These lyrics strengthen the argument that the last two lines were about temporary love. A teenage vow-- teenage love is always shifting, always evolving. A parking lot is no place to vow permanence. And then they will part after tonight. it’s a play on wedding vows, making a mockery of the permanence of those.
“I sing the blues and you swallow them too“
now, i’ve read dissections that say this refers to Pete’s drug use, and that fits in so I won’t talk about it here, but also because I’m speaking to the song as a whole. So far, this narrator has referred to themselves as fickle, temporary, and now blue. And the listener swallows the blues. The listener is eating up the sad emotions that the narrator provides. The use of the word “too” adds another level to this line. An implication is that it is an active choice of the listener to swallow them. The narrator is adding that as a statement of fact, not suggesting that the listener swallow his blues, but saying that the listener already does.
“My words are my faith, to hell with our good name“
here we go back to the religious symbolism. similar to the first pre-chorus, the narrator is talking about hell. He sings the blues, he gave a teenage vow, but his words are his faith. It seems almost as though the narrator doesn’t believe anything good could come out of his words. They’re his faith, and -> to hell with their good name, because of that. A tie-in to the “the road outside my house is paved with good intentions”. The narrator lives in hell. To hell with their good name.
“Remix of your guts, your insides x-rayed“
the narrator is dissecting the listener now, and nothing is hidden. everything is exposed. A remix is more commonly used in music terminology, and so the narrator seems to be saying that the song he is singing is what is exposing the listener.
“And one day we'll get nostalgic for disaster We're a bull, your ears are just a china shop“
A bull in a china shop-- another well known phrase. Naming that they are the bull and your ears are a china shop (which is where my belief that “you” refers to the listener/audience instead of a separate third person comes from), right after saying they’ll get nostalgic for disaster. One day they’ll get nostalgic for the current disaster. Because the narrator is singing the blues-- and therefore the person swallowing them is listening-- the implication is that the current disaster is the relationship between the narrator and listener. the implication is also that, to the narrator, the relationship is parasitic: the narrator provides nothing but destruction.
Not only that, but you can only get nostalgic for things you have left behind. The narrator is telling the listener that he will leave.
“I love you in the same way There's chapel in a hospital“
In what way is there a chapel in a hospital? The narrator brings us back to the religious theme, and gives us two lines rife with nuance. The narrator loves the listener in the same way there’s a chapel in a hospital, and so you have to think: who is the chapel in a hospital for? why do people go? when do people go?
I’ll give you a hint. A chapel in a hospital is for desperate people. Someone they love is in the hospital and they are appealing to a higher power. Now, you could tell me that someone who is religious would go to a chapel right off the bat anyway, but given the nature of this song-- how it is taking religious symbolism and turning it on its head to indicate that the narrator isn’t good-- I believe that the narrator is referring to the people who go to chapels because they’re desperate. The people who are appealing to someone they might not even believe in because it’s their last hope.
And then we go back to the desperate love feeling from the chorus. Loving someone in the same way there’s a chapel in a hospital is not permanent, and it’s not a good foundation. It’s built out of the wrong emotions. Further to the point, once the loved one is better, a person who doesn’t believe isn’t going to go to that chapel again. It’s temporary.
“One foot in your bedroom And one foot out the door“
Ties right back into the temporary. Having one foot out the door is indicative of someone about to run. Someone who loves the way someone prays in a chapel in a hospital. Someone who will get nostalgic for disaster.
“Sometimes we take chances, sometimes we take pills I could write it better than you ever felt it“
The first line of this harkens back to the “I sing the blues and you swallow them too” line. Both are zeugmas. And the way this is phrased indicates that the narrator believes it is one or the other.
It’s all a game of this or that.
When someone takes pills, it is to feel (or not feel) something. The narrator saying “I could write it better than you ever felt it” shortly after singing about how sometimes they take pills throws a bit of... almost as if the actual feelings don’t matter, because the narrator can fake it better. There’s almost a sense of smug superiority in this song, about how the disconnect of actual permanent love doesn’t mean the narrator can’t understand. If anything, he understands better than the listener.
After this, the rest of the song is a repeat of lines I’ve discussed before, but there is a bridge where the narrator is singing the lines to “hallelujah”. Singing, not humming.
The narrator is telling the listener to hum hallelujah-- off the key of reason-- but the narrator himself is singing hallelujah, and on key. Throughout the song there has been this disconnect between the listener and the narrator. With the listener being held on a pedestal, while the narrator degrades himself, but now the narrator is the one perfectly hitting his cues.
anyway, i am by no means saying that hum hallelujah is the only one of their songs covered with this much nuance, nor am i trashing their other songs, but something about hum hallelujah hits entirely different from their other songs on infinity on high-- and in general-- making it an entirely different experience, and making it worthy of the best song title.

MIGUEL O'HARA x FEM READER
summary miguel o'hara is in love with you. so hopelessly in love with you. (spoiler alert: you are, too.)
warnings fluff, pure tooth-rotting fluff, just a bunch of blurbs put together, NOT proofread
a/n feeling peaceful 2day love u all xx (p.s. wrote this listening to "pov" by ariana)
masterlist
mornings with miguel o'hara can only be described using one word: peace.
you'd never think that "peace" would be a word associated with miguel o'hara, but once you've experienced what you have, you wouldn't see it any other way.
miguel is protective of his mornings with you. being such a busy man, mornings with you are sacred.
"can we sleep in a little longer?" you mumble against his chest, almost every morning. his answer is always the same: "of course, my dear."
how could he ever say no to you?
you set your phone down on the kitchen island as you go to grab a glass of water. miguel's gaze leaves his laptop as he glances at your phone screen.
your phone was left unlocked, an instagram post of your high school classmate with a gigantic diamond ring displayed on it. miguel asks you, "mi corazón, does it bother you? we have been together for 8 years, and no ring."
"hmm, not really, miggy. does it bother you?" you reply, setting your glass down as you approach miguel.
"no, but if you did, it would be understandable."
you walk closer to him and he wraps an arm around your waist. you settle down on his lap and stroke his hair, saying, "i don't need a ring to prove that i love you. ring or no ring, we both know that i am yours, forever."
you wake up to the sound of giggling and a thud of something falling to the floor. you drag yourself out of bed and down the stairs. your daughter is giggling as she runs around the living room, being chased by miguel who's holding a...bottle of pink glitter?
a chair at the dining table has toppled over, the culprit behind the "thud" you heard earlier. the dining table has a piece of A3 drawing paper on it, covered in pink glitter glue, light pink sequins and dark pink and purple fairy dust. you've never seen so much pink in your life.
"the glitter monster is coming for you!" you hear miguel call out. you turn around just in time to see miguel pick up your daughter and carry her over his shoulder. she giggles, "papá, put me down!"
you look at the line of photo frames on top of the fireplace, a mere representation of the time that has passed since you first met miguel o'hara
there's a photo of you and miguel in a dark, crowded bar. the night you two met.
there's also photo of you and miguel in front of the eiffel tower. the night of your 5th anniversary.
there's a photo of you and miguel in a chapel in vegas, both of you grinning, his arm slung over your shoulder. the night the two of you were married by an elvis impersonator.
there's also a photo of you in the hospital, miguel grinning next to you, and the most perfect baby girl bundled in your arms. the night your baby girl entered the world.
last but not least, there's a photo of you and miguel slightly hunched forward, with your daughter in between the two of you, holding a huge bouquet and grinning. the day of her very first dance recital.
by the end of the day, your little angel's pink artwork takes its place above the fireplace, joining the array of photo frames.

sam and colby hell week review
finally sat down to write out all of my thoughts on hell week. i'm gonna break down each video, how i feel about them, rate them, and whether or not i would watch them again.
i also did one for last year so if you wanna see that, here it is.
i'm gonna also do some rankings and maybe a bit of comparison to last years, and what i would love for them to do in the future.
idk if this is gonna be super long or what, but feel free to skip around or just read the ending lol
Tumblr media
yorktown hospital: major positives of this video - the group that snc went with. i love nate and seth, and i think all of them together works so well. i think the backstory of this place is horrendous and breaks my heart to hear about all of the terrible things that happened. what i did find funny was that this was the way snc found out that the organized religion can be sinful lol like… did they not know that the church can be corrupt, or did they know and were just surprised? either way, i thought it was kinda funny. the jump-scares throughout this video (at least in the intro/history portion) were not my favorite but it's fine. they definitely put their all into this first video, that's for sure. i think this video was the beginning of showing that snc, for some reason or another, were gonna really be hamming up their comedy bits in these videos. i'm not sure why they felt the need to really go all in on the jokes. i think for this one it was… okay? but as you'll see later in my reviews, i don't think it flies most times. and i think this is the first instance of them (sort of) being told to leave. the stuff that they caught in the chapel, both the first time and the estes method time, was very interesting and creepy. ngl, chapels/churches creep me out… idk why.
so before i started writing my review i watched two witches react to this video, and they talked about trickster spirits playing around with snc a lot in this video. and honestly, i kinda feel like that's the case in some way or another. they also pointed out that sam always go for the darker questions like "are you here to harm us", "are you evil", shit like that. and i never noticed it before until now. and this will also be the umpteenth time i say this but sam, please, for the love of god… STOP TRYING TO CONNECT EVERYTHING IN THE MOMENT.
the hallway investigation was cute, if not a bit dramatic. and the solo investigations were interesting as well. especially with nate and seth and the fogging of the camera??? that was kinda creepy. overall, while they didn't get a shit ton of evidence, i think the general vibe of the video fit well for hell week, especially the start of it.
rating: 4/5
would i rewatch: sure :)
~~~~~~~
mcraven mansion: going into this video, i wasn't exactly excited. mostly bc i wasn't happy about the collab. like, i get that they were on todd and brett's podcast, but what do they have to do with ghost hunting? this kinda feels like a last minute type of deal, like they were supposed to film with someone else but things fell thru. maybe i'm wrong about that tho lol but, surprisingly, this video was pretty okay. i didn't getting annoyed as much as i thought i was going to. this was the shortest video of hell week, and it honestly felt like it too. but at the same time, it kinda dragged a bit as well. also, i'm trying to be more open about ppl randomly being psychic around them, bc i myself also get weird feelings from time to time and i know what it's like to be seen as crazy for experiencing what i have. however, it's really hard to take ppl seriously when they say things all of sudden. especially when it comes out of no where OR they're someone that's never had a paranormal experience before. evidence wise, i don't remember them getting a whole bunch. the door opening, that was kinda spooky. the rempod going off like crazy was also pretty cool. OH THE HOURGLASS. that was very interesting. they should do that more often, especially if they feel like a place or a room is trapped in a time period. and the connection between that opened spirit box section and the tour guide... now THAT is something i would love for snc to do (when they get an editor that can just do their whole video lol) bc if they could back thru their evidence later and either connected it to some history they didn't know or what, i think that would add a whole new level to their videos. honestly, going back thru this video, i didn't realize how much i liked it. but something about it felt really rushed or weird to me. it has potential, but not enough follow-thru. also gotta add it: the phone falling out of brett's pocket was not paranormal lmao
rating: 3/5
would i rewatch: maybe.
~~~~~~~
myrtles plantation: this video, highkey, was such a let down. i think the previous two were so good, especially for beginning hell week videos, and i expected this one to be a bit more solid. i had never heard of this place, so idk how haunted or not haunted it is. but i just feel like… nothing happened. i went into the video one way and came out the other side the same. i just feel very meh about this video overall.
the tour guide was very much… a tour guide lol idk how else to describe it, but she felt like someone trying to sell you on the place being spooky. and a side tangent, how come a lot of these videos don't have outros? or like, them talking about their night stay? very strange to leave out key details like that idk. the group that they were with, nate and amanda… yeah. i guess it worked. i'm always happy to see nate. and amanda is okay occasionally. this time around she wasn't up to her usual antics so i can appreciate that.
the reenactment…. why in god's green earth did snc do that, let alone leave it in? bc fun fact, they literally had a talk with their team before the video was posted about not including it. and i would love to know why no one thought to tell them that maybe it wasn't the most respectful thing to do. not only that, but it wasn't funny. so like… 0-2 there boys. the crystal that amanda gave colby was sweet, but knowing him he's not gonna use it to actually hone in his abilities. and the evil eye bracelets don't technically protect from evil spirits, just made mojo sent to you by humans, but it can't hurt you to have it so whatever. so the investigation itself was… fine, i guess. nothing too crazy. when they split off alone, that was where it got a bit interesting. sam was terrified, which always raises a red flag in me. bc while he can be jumpy or repeating "ooooh mmmyyy goooodddd" a lot, that doesn't mean he's scared. so when he actually is, it's a bit startling to me. the estes method with nate and amanda was actually pretty cool, i think that's where a lot of the evidence they got was the most compelling. and this is also the start of colby's audio being cut off. this happens like two or three more times and it makes no sense to me. idk if it's their camera (which is very possible) or if it's the ghosts, but either way, something doesn't want their conversation with colby to be known.
and the estes method with them all tied up around amanda was weird… but not in a paranormal way lol
rating: 2/5
would i rewatch: no :)
~~~~~~~
trans-allegheny: i liked this video a lot, both when i first watched it and rewatching to do this review. michelle was a great addition to the video. and while she was a bit jumpy, it honestly didn't bother me. i did find it funny that michelle is a badass compared to all the boys, yet she was freaked out the whole time. as for the investigation, again, this was one that fell a little flat, but i don't think it was snc's fault completely. for whatever reason, the ghosts were just not fucking around with them or their vibe. i know the hide and seek game wasn't exactly the best thing for them to do, or the hopscotch trigger event they pulled later, but i don't think they were super disrespectful to the spirits. but the voice they caught saying lily on camera and not in the evp recorder was very compelling. honestly that part was creepy as hell to me. the estes method with michelle... eh. i get she was scared, but this was the only time her jumping got a bit too much for me. also, it's interesting how whoever they were talking to didn't want them there at all. it kinda felt as if some bigger spirit wasn't allowing them to talk to who was actually there. it could be that or the spirits for whatever reason felt disrespected by them.
the hopscotch thing was.......... a thing. why do i have a sneaking suspicion that sam came up with this trigger event lol the hide and seek game was an interesting concept, i guess. props to michelle for hiding bc i would have said absolutely fuck no baby to snc. that voice box that they used towards the end was somehow way creepier than anything else in the video. i think cutting out the radio static makes whatever voices that do come thru all the more scarier. overall, while this video did feel like a filler, i wasn't upset about it. i think it was right on the line of fully fun investigation and filler.
rating: 3.5/5
would i rewatch: yeah
~~~~~~~
old washoe club: so by this point in hell week, i want the scariest, the creepiest, the overall terrifying-est videos snc can give us. halloween is approaching and i want to be spooked. and this video was… not that. i said earlier it was a bit of grower on me, and i can see myself liking it later down the line. and i do think that's the case to some degree. like i said earlier, i watched two witches react to their videos, and this was one of them. so now watching it for a third time just to do this review is not exactly sitting well with me since i still have the same reactions as i did before.
the place itself, honestly, doesn't seem haunted to me. maybe residual energy, sure, but nothing actually demonic or scary. or so i thought for the most part. when kris got scratched, that was really freaky. part of me is bit skeptical, bc i feel like it could have been her (bc snc saying "oh she can't even reach that part" is not believable to me lol all she had to do was stand up straight and i'm sure she could have) but i'll take their word for it that it wasn't her and it was something there that did that. i'm surprised at how well composed she was for this entire video. honestly, when she's not around celina, she does better with paranormal in my opinion. that's not a rag on celina, just an observation i have lol
i will say the only two places that gave me bad vibes was the crypt and the red room. the crypt was pretty weird, and the flashlight literally moving, plus turning on and off like four times while doing so, was very intriguing. and of course it would pick colby. but what i thought was interesting was that, yet again, the audio for him cut out. part of me, again, thinks it might be the camera. i know they have two nightvision cameras, so i wonder if one of them is busted. but then another part of me is like "they've used both before in other videos (literally even the previous one) and it didn't glitch on them that time so… what gives?" but i think my favorite part of the whole video was colby saying "i felt an innocent presence with me". now THAT'S the shit i'm talking about !!! seriously, colby does stuff like that, and it just makes me more excited to see his path going forward with the paranormal.
as for the rest of the video, it was fine. the trigger event this time around didn't feel insulting, so that's nice i guess. and personally, i'm starting to think that little kid spirits just don't exist. nothing they were getting on the spirit box/ovilus was child related. the sls stuff they got was kinda interesting, but also just felt like a glitch to me. but they should pull out that device more often. i think the crystal ball part was a bit… obtuse? like, i get it. they want to do something to open up their psychic abilities, but… maybe read up on it more and not just go out and buy a crystal ball lol and kris standing in that room by herself - props to her. you can just tell she was freaking out and was scared out of her mind. but she remanded decently calm.
rating: a very soft 3/5
would i rewatch: not for a while lol but yeah at some point
~~~~~~~
bell witch cave: i'm gonna say what everyone else is thinking - this should have been the finale. at least, it feels like a finale type of video to me. nonetheless, i think this was their best investigation by far. i think it was on par with the conjuring which is why it also felt like it should have been the finale. the team they were with - fantastic. love the four of them. i think collectively snc always get the craziest stuff with seth and josh (minus the pine barrens which i think is snc's worst video to date, tied with crescent hotel, but feel free to disagree). also, just noticed this now rewatching it, but when they're in the cabin and snc tell josh and seth that they plan to not use equipment first, josh and seth tell them they call that "quiet-game shit" which... is highkey hilarious for some reason lol so the knocking, while it is pretty scary (and probably scarier in the moment), i always wonder if it's just the old ass houses they are in doing that. it's hard for me to wrap my head around a spirit being so strong enough to kill a man, but not strong enough to appear and speak, but instead resorts to knocks? idk. but regardless, i think them being freaked out is what freaked me out the most. bc you can tell when they're all genuinely scared versus hamming it up for the cameras.
but i have to note, that colby saying "in 2021, when we did queen mary, it almost feels like time didn't even go by at all and we're in like the ship for some reason." ....can someone check on him? please? bc that's a bit concerning. but also i need him to elaborate on that thought. do you mean that time feels a bit frozen to you? or was it just in the queen mary itself? or is it even now? bc all of those questions don't exactly lead to the same conclusions.
them using an actual witch to cleanse themselves.... round of applause for finally doing what we've been telling you for FUCKING YEARS TO DO. the onvoy glitching a bunch was pretty interesting, but i still have some issues with that device. but either way, it was confusing as to why that was happening. the cave itself was very spooky. something about this was way more creepier than even the catacombs they went to last year. something about the energy of that place is off. all of them going in and taking polaroids was actually a pretty interesting idea. and i think the execution was awesome and kinda terrifying. the fact that the camera just wasn't taking pics of colby..... immediate chills for me. also sam being that scared, again, spooks me more just bc of how serious he gets. both of their polaroids were weird as hell. it honestly looks like to me that there's a figure behind colby, but it's hard to tell bc of how warped the pic became. seth and josh hearings voices was freaky too. and you could tell they were legitimately scared by them. but i find it interesting that seth and josh's photos weren't all that weird looking. the final part was a bit all over the place, again - probably bc sam likes to connect everything together in the moment instead of just... letting it happen naturally, but i think the conclusion was overall pretty well.
rating: 5/5
would i rewatch: yes
~~~~~~~
winchester mystery house: i think a lot of us were kinda going into this video not excited, bc we know the dynamic kris and celina have. i know i wasn't excited about this video, and especially bc it got uploaded so late that it basically was on halloween, so i wanted something scary. conjuring level.
that's not what we got, but i was pleasantly surprised by this video.
but i do gotta talk about the negatives: the medium, the one present with them, was… idk. something about her felt fake. sorry. especially when she honed in on celina and said "oh you see dead ppl" which like…. what a convo starter. also telling her she needs to love herself and see herself the way others do or whatever. that was sweet, i'll give you that. but like, maybe don't include in the video, boys. it's not connected to the investigation so move it along.
the guides this time weren't as annoying as the last time, if i remember correctly. they didn't seem to be trying to get you to believe the place is haunted, just that there have been some strange stuff going on. i will say tho, this house to me has not a single spirit in it. idk what it is, but nothing about this house feels haunted at all. it feels peaceful in a way, but not haunted. also when they talk about the doors that lead to no where or the stairs that do that, all i can think is there was an earthquake there. shit that once existed does not anymore. maybe that's why shit doesn't make sense layout wise. especially the one door that leads to the outside. clearly there used to be a deck there that isn't there now.
i think this time around the empathy that they have for sarah is a really nice change of pace. i don't think last time they were disrespectful, more so that they just believed that hype of the legend of her being a crazy woman.
the numerology, while i know some of you don't believe it, is what (to me) saved this video from being ass. i think regardless of how you feel about it, it's very intriguing to see how the numbers relate to snc. kris and celina's, gonna be honest, i don't know them well enough to really say one way or another. but snc's numbers are the most interesting to me. so sam's being the guide makes perfect sense, i think. would i say he's colby's guide? maybe yes maybe no. i think sam definitely helps colby a lot figure out what he truly wants to do and has directed him down a really good path in life. i think they mesh well together in a lot of ways. and i think sam's more logical/cynical side gets balanced out by colby's more positive/dream-like side. sam said it once before, that his favorite attribute about colby is his smile bc he always just makes everyone else happy and that is 1000% RIGHT. as for colby's number, i mean… is it suprising to anyone? seriously, i recommend you read up on number 11s and see how much really connects with colby bc highkey some are just spot on.
if anyone wants to know mine, i'm a 2 :)
but back to the investigation portion - while i don't know how much i believe in celina's abilities, i do think she definitely feels things regardless. and that in itself kinda proves she has some ability. i think evidence wise, they didn't catch all that much. the voice they heard, them seeing things possibly, celina following who she thought was sarah… it was sort of compelling, sort of meh. again, the thing that stood out to me was the numerology stuff.
and as for them going thru the house on their own, the audio cutting off on colby AGAIN is insane to me. how is that possible??? and sam being fucking terrified for some reason was really strange to me. his spirits were high all night, but the moment he thought he saw something, he was about ready to shit himself. i'm concerned for him and the way he jumps from borderline cold towards the paranormal to scared shitless. he should really work on finding a middle ground and centering himself when he does get scared.
rating: 3/5
would i rewatch: possibly, but most likely only for the numerology stuff

overall rating of hell week: 3.5/5
wouldn't you believe it: i'm basically giving the same rating to hell week as i did last year. bc i realized this half-way thru hell week - both seasons of hell week are like any other season of snc. they just give it a better title. bc think about it, take last year's hell week. everyone i've come across has said that last years was so much better. if that's the case, take out the conjuring finale….. is it really better than what we got this year? bc i don't think so. i think both are on par with one another. hell technically, i did the average score for both hell weeks and this one ranked higher, but by like .01 percent. so that's what i mean. both hell weeks are fine. but they aren't spectacular. snc have a better chance of filming a one off scary-ass video than they do planning to film a scary video.
to quote myself from an ask not too long ago: i honestly feel like both hell weeks were average at best. the only reason the first one felt crazy was bc it was first. also, snc hadn’t been doing all paranormal last year. they started 2021 out with 25x25, then stopped bc it wasn’t gaining views, did paranormal for a hot minute, went to chernobyl, and then did hell week. there had been a long enough pause between content, and i think them going back to the conjuring, alone, added to hell week feeling special. but in reality… it was basically the precursor to what they ended up doing this year. it just felt cooler back then.
here are some things that i would love for snc to do in the future, for both hell week and any other seasons they plan to do:
please, for the love of god, stop freaking out so much. take it down even one notch, and i swear the content will be better.
sam, stop talking over every estes method. stop trying to connect everything WHILE it's happening. do that later, or when the estes method is over.
colby, go to a psychic or witch or something and start reading up on your abilities. i NEED you to be more empathic lol
do at least one investigation per season solo. if you want someone with you in the beginning, sure. but go alone, with just the two of you. bc that content is fire regardless of what you get.
use the sls camera more.
if you can find a way to let us hear what the spirit box is saying during an estes method, that would be awesome.
find a way to go back thru videos after you've filmed them and see if things are connected that you didn't realize before.
maybe tone down the hyping up of every video bc then it ends up being a let down when it isn't the best
if you do hell week again, you gotta post the videos from creepiest to scariest bc otherwise it just ends up feeling a bit mish-mashed
there's probably other stuff i could add, but i'll just let them focus on this lol (as if they'll ever see it)
i genuinely enjoyed hell week, and i'm excited to see what the future holds for snc. i don't see them getting worse, so everything can only go up from here.

Gene Driscoll: A Green Eggs and Ham Story
Chapter Seven: Father of Two
Thankfully for Gene, no one tried to bump him off as of late. Which was good since today was his wedding.
It was a small affair. The only ones present outside of the main couple were Melanie, Ms. Garrison, the Crown Dooka and his wife and the Dooka. At the request of Gene, the Dooka definitely made sure the guards outside the chapel wore gas masks should another canister of knock-out gas were to come rolling in. Over the last couple of days, Pam’s belly was protruding a little more. Soon would be time for her to get another checkup on hers and the baby’s condition.
“Do you, Eugene Amadeus Driscoll, take Pam to be your lawfully wedded wife? To cherish and honor; through pain and joy; in sickness and in health; whatever life throws your way, until death do you part?”
“I do”, he says, crying tears of joy.
“And do you, Pamela-I-Amela, take Gene to be your lawfully wedded husband? To cherish and honor; through pain and joy; in sickness and in health; whatever life throws your way, until death do you part?”
“I do”, she answers, her voice cracking.
“Then by the power invested in me, I pronounce this couple husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Gene lifted the veil, but Pam leaped forward and kissed him.
——
Later that night, after putting Melanie to sleep, the newlyweds kept to themselves in their bedroom. They kissed lovingly until Pam interrupted with an “Oh!”
“What is it?”
“I think I felt a kick!”
“Really?!”
“Mm-hm! Give me your hand.” She places Gene’s hand just left of the center of her belly where he felt something pressing against the skin from the inside out.
“Oh, wow!”
“Neat, isn’t it?”
——
Gene had the guest room redone; the bed was replaced with Melanie’s old crib, new baby supplies and changing table across the room, the walls being painted a new color.
Turned out Gene’s “daddy hunch” was correct. He and Pam were expecting a boy. He purchased cans of blue paint for the nursery. Pam and Melanie even helped him with the paint job. With his daughter, she got the job done by dipping her hands in the paint and splattering the walls.
After a few hours, they stopped and admired their work. Pam felt another kick from the baby.
“Guess he’s excited too”, Gene theorized.
——
Then one night, at the tail end of Pam’s third weekmester, she shook her husband awake, saying, “Gene! He’s coming!” That woke him up instantly.
Getting both Pam and a sleeping Melanie in the car, Gene drove to the hospital. Pam tried to keep her breathing level.
When they arrived at the hospital, he checked Pam in and she was wheeled off to a room. While one off duty nurse kept an eye on Melanie, Gene stood alongside Pam as she delivered the baby.
It was almost sunrise when their baby boy was born. He cried his little lungs out as he breathed for the first time. Hearing his cries had Gene choking up. He hadn’t yet seen his son as the doctors were swaddling him up in a blanket at the moment. He looked down at Pam, who was taking deep breaths and had sweat pouring off her forehead. She eventually made eye contact with Gene and managed to smile at him, exhausted but relieved.
“Here he is”, the doctor said, a bundle in his arms. He handed the baby first to Pam.
“So you’re the one who’s been kicking me”, she said to him in a soft voice.
The baby simply looked at his mother.
Gene was smiling and crying at the same time. There was his son. Right there. There in all his glory, bearing an uncanny resemblance more to Pam than himself. But that didn’t matter much to Gene. He loved his little boy even if his soul metamorphosed into a Llama-nu.
“Could I see him?”, he asked.
Pam responded by holding her arms out closer. Gene trembled as he held his son for the first time.
He stammered out, “H-hi, S-Sam”, kissed his forehead and held him to his chest. Baby Sam reached his hands out; Gene could faintly feel them. His heart skipped a beat. Then he realized-
“Hold on! Mellie’s gotta see him!” He handed Sam back to Pam and left the room.
Pam turns towards Sam and tells him, “Your daddy and I have been really excited to see you. I’m gonna take extra special care of you, young man. I love you with all my heart. Every day, forever and ever.”
In the doorway, Gene stood by with Melanie sitting in the crook of his elbow. “Melanie? This is your little brother Sam!” He stepped forward and kneeled so Melanie could get a closer look. “Say hi, sweetie.”
“Hi, Sam!” She waved to him.
——
After being discharged from the hospital, Pam and Gene settled Sam down in his crib for the first time ever. Melanie peeked through the bars at her sleeping brother.
“I love you, Sam”, she said.
Gene smiled down at his daughter. He then leans down to kiss her. “And he loves you too, Mellie”, he assured her.
——
The next day, Gene sat with Melanie at the dining room table, showing her how to color. In the living room, Pam sat on the recliner, holding Sam to her chest. He was sleeping in her arms, snoozing his first full day away.
As Pam looked at her son, she really took in his appearance. Outside of having no hair beyond the initial layer of fur, he looked just like her. Same white fur from the neck up. Same yellow fur from the neck down. Same little tufts on his cheeks. All in all, he looked exactly like her. Well, at least to her, except for one thing: although he was sleeping, Pam could just see that he had a loving heart, one that would ensure that he’d be friendly to everyone. That, for sure, Pam knew he got from his father.

IMMACULATE (2024)
Tumblr media
This stars Sydney Sweeney, who is also in “Madame Web” (2024)!  A few weeks ago someone posted a picture of her cleavage and said “THIS WILL DESTROY WOKEISM AARRGHH RRAAARGHH YAAARGH!”  Conservatives, reactionaries, and trolls loved it, because they don’t know what “woke” means.
So, yes, Sydney Sweeney is Sister Cecilia.  But before we get to her we have Sister Mary.  At some time in the past, she tries to sneak out of her convent, but the nuns capture her and break her leg.  They bury her alive.  We hear her scream as the title card rolls.
Finally, Sister Cecilia arrives in Italy to join the same convent!  Naturlich, she hasn’t bothered to learn Italian.  I mean, if I knew I were going to live for an extended time in a foreign country I would be using Duolingo, Babbel, and Rosetta Stone, but she’s an American so she can’t be bothered.  The convent is in a beautiful old villa built over catacombs, and the sisters there care for older, retired sisters living out their final years.  Cecilia meets Isabelle, who is a bit of a dick toward her, and Isabella tells her that’s it’d be ok to leave: “God will forgive you.”  Cecilia is determined to stay.  She also meets Sister Gwen.  Also, we have Father Sal, who invited her to join the convent in the first place.
Tumblr media
Cecilia takes her vows and kisses the cardinal’s ring.  Afterwards, she wanders into the chapel where she finds a nun with a red cloth pulled tightly across her face, like a mask.  Mother Superior finds Cecilia and shows her the convent’s relic, a holy nail that was used to crucify Jesus.  (Strange how there’s a bunch of these nails all across Europe!)  Cecilia touches the nail and passes out, most likely in a religious fervor.  Soon after, she has a freaky dream, of being stabbed by the nuns, and she then experiences a training montage of performing her nun-ly duties at the convent.
Cecilia is bathing in her dress with the other nuns and vomits!  She goes to the doctor, who takes a urine sample.  Next thing she knows, she’s being bustled to the cardinal and Father Sal and the mother superior, and they’re asking if she’s ever had sex with a man.  She insists no!  They perform a vaginal ultrasound and confirm that Cecilia is pregnant.  Instead of reasonably assuming that she’s just a filthy liar who fucks, everyone accepts her conception as a miracle of god.  They drape her in beautiful robe and a headdress of flowers and everyone is amazed.
We jump forward a bit and Cecilia is still suffering from morning sickness, but she also spits out a tooth!  Soon after, Sister Isabelle, she who was mean to Cecilia, tries to drown her in the tub!  “It should have been me!” Isabelle shouts, which isn’t strange at all.  The convent doctor looks Cecilia over afterwards, and Cecilia wants to go to a real hospital, but Father Sal and the doctor put her off, which still isn’t strange.  A little bit later, Cecilia is walking through the courtyard when Sister Isabelle throws herself off the roof and lands on her face.  They roll the body toward us and we can see mostly pulp.  On the way to bury the body, Sister Gwen freaks out and yells at the other nuns, and they drag her away.  Cecilia wanders about that night and finds a file they have about her, with news clippings and a picture of her chromosomes.  She goes outside to peek into a shed, where the nuns cut off Gwen’s tongue!
Tumblr media
A scene later, Cecilia is screaming in bed with blood around her hips and pelvis.  Father Sal has to take her to the hospital at that point, but the mother superior is crying over the bloody sheets when she discovers  a dead chicken!  Cecilia faked the emergency.  The mother superior calls Father Sal, who stops the car.  Cecilia tries to run away, but they catch her.  Back at the convent, Father Sal wheelchairs Cecilia down to his lab.  He explains that has some genetic material on the Holy Nail , and they’ve been trying to create a clone of Jesus, using the the nuns as surrogates.  He shows her deformed fetuses in jars, but he’s sure that the fetus within Cecilia will be fine.  He then brands a cross on each of her feet.
Cecilia is basically locked up after that.  As her due date approaches, the doctor and the mother superior are performing another ultrasound, and the doctor leaves them alone.  Cecilia bashes in the mother superior’s face with a cross and escape the room, but then her water breaks!  She next finds and kills the cardinal by throttling him with some rosary beads.  She then steals the Holy Nail and goes down to Father Sal’s lab.  She pours about some flammable liquid, but he catches her.  She manages to escape and sort of sets the lab on fire, but he escapes the conflagration and chases Cecilia into the catacombs!
In a decent chase scene, Cecilia manages to evade the father in the dark maze.  She finds Gwen’s dead body, and then sees a hole leading outside.  But then Father Sal grabs her.  He drags her back and begins to cut the fetus out of her, but Cecilia stabs him in the neck with the Holy Nail (bet Jesus never expected that!) and kills him.  She crawls outside, but then she gives birth, plopping the child out on the ground.  We don’t see it, as the camera stays right on her bloody face, and she severs the umbilical with her own teeth.  We hear the child wheezing and…growling at her feet.  She then grabs a rock and bashes it to death.  That’s how the movie ends, with Sydney Sweeney performing a post-birth abortion.  This is the world liberals want, people!
Tumblr media
“Immaculate” joins a long line of “nunsploitation” movies.  Most of these are…salacious in nature, but a few are a horror movies.  The last one I saw was “The Nun” (2018), which I barely remember at all, it made such a slight impression on me.  We also have “The First Omen” (2024), another nun horror movie, but I haven’t seen that yet.  All of these movies are, of course, placed in their own context.  This movie, “Immaculate,” features a woman who loses her bodily autonomy to an organization with its own designs.  Our context is a country where women’s autonomy is subservient to an actually small segment of the population who believe that these uppity females should just shut up and do as they’re told.  Sydney Sweeney plays confusion pretty well, so that would be an understandable reaction, both to the plot and the world at large, but perhaps the rage at the climax would be more suitable.

15th Day - limited. (Scene 2)
Bit of a short update today.
"――――Of course…! What about the match is decided!? I can't back out now…!!!!"
"That's the spirit. It seems there is no need for hospitalization." "Eh――――――Kotomine…?"
"…That is my line. You and Rin were abandoned at the door. I wanted to leave you two, since you made a rather ugly pair as abandoned children go, but you were also dead on your feet. Had I done nothing, there would have been two dead bodies in front of my church. A church cannot afford that image, so I had no choice but to treat you."
"――――――――" …I figure out the situation I'm in. This is the chapel. There's nothing wrong with my body. The energy that was swallowed by Sakura's shadow has recovered. I lost consciousness back in my yard. It must be the same for Tohsaka. Rider probably carried us here.
Rider has no means of healing wounded people. Kotomine was probably the only one she knew that could heal us. How long has it been? The time is――――
"It is three in the morning. You have been sleeping for about twelve hours since you were carried here." "――――Twelve hours!? That's half a day…!" I get up from the chair I was lying on. I can't lie around like this…!
"Kotomine, where's Tohsaka!? She was there too, right!? Where is she!?"
"I have Rin resting at her place. You only had your energy taken away, but she had her magical energy taken away. It would normally take seven days to recover, but the land of Tohsaka is good for her. If all goes well, she should regain consciousness by tomorrow afternoon."
"―――I see. So her life's not in danger?" "No. The soil of that land is special. It is a ley line that is said to have been home to vampires. Rin is her family's heir, so she will be back to her impudent self if I keep her buried for a day."
"……" I think I heard something I'm not used to hearing, but I decide not to ask about it. Let's hope he doesn't literally mean "bury".
"――――I see. Thanks for the care." I leave the church.
I know what I have to do. Follow Sakura. Bring back Ilya. Bring back Sakura. Protect the one I love. So what if the fight's outcome is already determined? I still have the power to fight. So this is no time to be hesitating.
"――――――――" There's no time. I can't waste time going back home to find a weapon. …No, these people can't be fought with weapons from my house.
Sakura and Saber. Zouken and Assassin. If Zouken is after Ilya, I have to assume all my enemies are at my destination.
"So, where are you going, Emiya Shirou? I do not know the situation." "…? It's obvious. Ilya went with Sakura to protect us. She said to go to the castle if Sakura wants her formal dress. I don't know what this formal dress is, but they're likely heading to her castle."
"Formal dress…? No, never mind that. Matou Sakura has become your enemy? Then the victor of this Holy Grail War is decided." "…………" It's irritating, but Kotomine's right.
Zouken and Sakura. Sakura is obviously the superior Master, but she can't disobey Zouken. …I don't know what she's trying to do with Ilya, but it'll end once she meets Zouken. No matter how much Sakura refuses him, the crest worm in her body will control her.
"――――Hey, more importantly! Why are you following me!?" "It will be too much for you alone. If Ilyasviel has been kidnapped, I cannot just watch quietly."
"Wha――――" I stop at the unexpected reply. What did he just say――――?
"Too much for me? So you're going to help me…!?" "Are you discontent? You will be fighting against the greatest force. Now that Rin cannot help you, my powers should be of assistance."
"――――――――" There's no way I'm discontented. I'm happy for any help, but――――
"Why? There's no reason for you to help me." "Of course not. It is just this one time. Do not consider me your ally after we rescue Ilyasviel. We can never understand each other." "Then…"
"It is simply for mutual benefit. Furthermore, they defeated all my Servants. Is that not a good enough reason?"
…There's no lie in his words. A lot has happened between us, but he has never lied to me. I――――

Bones x reader. She is a nurse and in love with Bones. But she can be clumsy(not with patients though) and it annoys Bones. She has convinced herself he would never feel the same. because he is always annoyed at her. but he is just covering up that he feels the same way by being annoyed.
a/n: This was fun to write! Thank you so much for the request!! also, I am back to school, big sad lmao.
tags: Bones is kind of a dick lol, coworkers with crushes on each other, mentions of death, drug mention, Bones is also all shy and nervous.
summary: You are a new, young nurse who has been put on the Starship Enterprise. You have a crush on the head Doctor, Leonard McCoy. You think he absolutely despises you, turns out, he might be warming up to you.
Misconceptions (Bones x Nurse!Reader)
Tumblr media
"Code Blue on the ICU Wing. Code Blue on the ICU wing." A robotic voice calls out over the speakers.
You set down your work and start running quickly to the ICU wing, then you feel the ground beneath you fall out.
"Nurse (L/N), walk quickly don't run! You happen to forget that little tidbit?" You hear Dr. McCoy quip from nearby, you look up and see him power-walking to the ICU as you pull yourself upwards.
"I'm sorry Doctor..." You murmur and start power-walking alongside him.
"Don't apologize to me, Nurse (L/N), apologize to the ground crew member coding in the ICU right now!" He snaps as you both reach the room.
The code team is already there and they step back to let Dr. McCoy work.
"Nurse (L/N), hand me those defibrillators."
You nod and fumble a bit with the defibrillator paddles as you hand them to Doctor McCoy, you brush your hand up against his hand and feel the heat rise to your cheeks.
The doctor shocks him and you notice his heart rhythm start to go back to normal.
You smile and put the paddles back on the defibrillator and start to walk out.
"Hey, (Y/N)?" You hear a voice from behind you ask, "Are you alright?"
You nod and turn around to face head Nurse, Christine Chapel.
"Oh, I'm fine! Why?"
She gives you a blank stare.
"You just fell hard on the hospital floor and then got yelled at for it, I wouldn't take it personally though, Bones is weird about his emotions."
You look at her quizzically.
"Weird about his emotions? What do you mean?" You ask her as she laughs for a minute and then quits, staring at you in confusion.
"What the hell do you think I mean? Leonard likes you."
"No, he doesn't." You snort.
"Yes, (Y/N). He does, you're just oblivious."
You shake your head as Christine's pager goes off and she walks away to go take care of something else.
She's wrong, You think to yourself, Bones doesn't like you. He's your boss, there are a million other reasons you could think of for him not liking you.
You need to take your mind off of what she said, so you start sorting through charts and putting them into your tablets.
You think for a while about what she said, you'd be lying if you said thinking about Bones didn't give you butterflies sometimes. That's nothing though, a harmless crush if anything. Right?
Suddenly as you try to go back to charting, Bones makes his way up by you, pulling up another tablet and sitting right next to you.
"Do you... need help?" He asks, he seems nervous. This didn't feel like the same 'Dr. McCoy,' who'd scolded you earlier.
You give him a shy smile and nod, handing him a chart from your pile.
There's a comfortable silence between the both of you until you awkwardly start to talk.
"So... It's odd right?"
"What's odd?"
"How we still use paper charts to start things out? We've had all these technological improvements and still... paper!" You laugh nervously and stare at the tablet in front of you, avoiding Bones' gaze.
Your mind races, Did I just try to flirt over weird charting conversation? That was just... awful.
You hear Bones clear his throat and chuckle, "(Y/N)?"
You listen to your name on his lips, it sounds like something you've been missing forever.
"Yes, Doctor?" You say politely, trying to not embarrass yourself.
"Would you like to go get a drink with me soon? Whenever we're not On-Call?"
Wait, what? Was that a date?
You look up from your chart and look at the Doctor, who is blushing furiously.
"I think I would like that very much, Doctor." You smile nervously and watch his face as the reality dawns on him.
"Well then, that's good. I... uh... Thank you." He nervously says before walking away, grinning.

Stories
I wrote this, inspired by this post of @downton-bridgerton . There’s a small nod to @ohtobealady and @modernamericangirl too! Hope you don’t mind!
It had become a sort of habit to his week, pulling out the old albums and touring books, finding bits of ephemera from their past to delight the children. On Tuesdays, with Mary leading the tenants meeting and Tom at the shop and Cora at the hospital, Robert found himself the adult entertainer of his growing grandchildren at tea time. While George enjoyed a competitive game of chess with Barrow, and Caroline liked to mime her puppets, Sybbie begged for stories.
True stories, mind you, none of these fancy fluffers, Donk!
And so while the other children started off on their own diversions, once Sybbie sat knee to knee with him and he began flipping through grainy pictures and offering up bits of tickets to far away attractions, Caroline and George soon shuffled closer, until they were all hanging about him, their pink lips parted and blue eyes captivated by the tales he told.
George especially liked adventure stories and so Robert humored him with memories of their travels. He embellished the time a camel spat at him at the base of Giza. He divulged the secrets of the catacombs in Paris. He awed with his retelling of Houdini’s water torture escape, an amusement Cora had forced him to endure. The children fingered the evidence of his travels with the same delicacy used on religious relics, quietly absorbing the past’s whispers.
Caroline always wanted to hear about the parties. She wished to know everything about the princes and princesses he’d dined with and if queens danced quadrilles. She demanded details about dresses and adornments and intrigues. To Robert’s own surprise, he’d noticed a great deal, and satisfied her curiosity, recalling ridiculous hats and weekend capers that elicited gasps and laughter from his young audience.
Sybbie wanted stories about Cora. It was the subject he was most intimate with, and the one that made his insides warm, his voice going low and soft the longer he spoke. She asked about her Granny’s life in New York and what her Papa did and what kind of books she read as a girl and did she sing the same songs to her mama as she sang to them. He’d told Cora of it one night, how fascinated the child was with her, and Cora had shuffled under the covers, chuckling and blushing, embarrassed by the attention but content.
“Donk, will you tell us about the first time you saw Granny?”
Robert wasn’t expecting the request that Tuesday, as he opened the pamphlet he’d gotten from his visit to the Sistine Chapel. His movement stilled, and though Sybbie had asked the question, three pairs of eyes blinked hungrily at him, their round faces all reflecting traces of their Granny’s features. His mouth went dry and his heart fluttered in panic, as it always did when confronted with the implications of their courtship. Robert allowed his mind to skip down the path of memories to that day, to that moment.
And he felt joy. Not guilt or shame but truth. And he looked down at his grandchildren and spoke with the knowledge of how the story unfolded.
“I was at the Hampstead Ball. It was too warm for an April evening and I was cross. I wanted to be home, not dancing!”
“Oh Donk, but you were silly!” Caroline squealed, rolling her eyes in a childish way that made him think of Cora and Mary at once.
Robert snickered. “Well, I didn’t love parties like you do. A chap I went to Eton with was telling me some bit of gossip and I stared out into the crowd, bored and not listening. A group of ladies stood not far, their backs to me and then they moved, and there was your Granny.”
“Oh,” Sybbie sighed. “Just like a movie…”
Robert smiled down at her. “The chap’s voice sort of faded away. Granny’s gloves had tiny little buttons at the wrist and she was fastening one that had popped loose. Her head was angled down just a little but she was occupied and so I stared much longer than proper.”
“And!” Sybbie and Caroline prompted impatiently.
“She was beautiful. More beautiful than any one I’d seen or have seen since.”
“Ohhhh,” Sybbie and Caroline put their hands over their hearts, melting dramatically back on their heels while George buried his face.
“And then her eyes lifted up and I couldn’t feel my feet. I forgot to blink or look away.”
Robert’s voice trailed off and he looked up from his grandchildren and caught the same blue eyes in the frame of the library door. Cora lowered her gaze and shook her head, her lips turning up shyly.
“Eventually my friend clapped me on the back and told me to stop ogling her and ask for a dance. In the time he took my attention away, Granny had disappeared into the crowd.”
“But you found her?” Sybbie asked eagerly, rising back on her knees again.
“Oh yes,” Cora cooed, startling the children as she walked from behind them. “Yes, he certainly did.”

I swear I will be caught up with these by tomorrow, I was so wiped yesterday after getting my assessment done kdfjglkf but I’m now scott free to write as much fic as I want until September, so brace yourself for that 😂 a continuation of day 14 - Hear Our Prayer because I feel bad about leaving that so unresolved dfkjgldfkg
Also on AO3!!!
DAY EIGHTEEN - GRIEVOUS INJURY
It was hours before the doctor came to find Beca and Aubrey. They had eventually moved from the hospital chapel to the waiting room for the simple reason that Beca didn’t feel right drinking coffee in a place of worship, no matter how much Aubrey had reassured her it was fine. Beca had been staring at the door the whole time, every time a doctor came through she would sit up a little straighter only to see them walk over to someone else’s relatives.
“Chloe Beale?”
“Yeah, yeah that’s us.” Beca was on her feet, too restless to sit whilst the doctor gave her, “How is she?! Is she gonna be okay?!”
“She’s stable.” The doctor smiled softly, “It was a nasty accident, Chloe has some very serious injuries. Because of the internal damage caused by the crash, we had to remove one of her kidneys and her spleen. Her left leg is broken in three places but we were thankfully able to save it. Our biggest concern is her head injury, there’s some swelling around her brain caused by her head hitting something hard, we’ve put her in a medically induced coma while me try and reduce it.”
“Fuck...” Beca let out a sob, running her hand through her hair as Aubrey put her hand on her shoulder, “Her- her brain? Wait, what about her kidney, she needs that, I- I don’t understand...”
“People can live with only one kidney, and her other one is working just fine on its own.” The doctor could see Beca starting to spiral and sought to try and offer some comfort, “Like I said, the most pressing concern is the brain injury, but if we can get the swelling down-”
“If?” Beca felt like the world was falling out from under her feet, “IF?!”
“I’m sorry.” The doctor frowned a little, “I wish I could give you better assurances, but as of now it’s just a waiting game.”
“Can- can I see her?” Beca was shaking a little in Aubrey’s arms, “I- I want to see her.”
“Yeah, of course you can.” The doctor nodded, “I’ll find someone to come a show you through.”
-----
Beca hadn’t left Chloe’s side for four days. No matter how much the doctors, or the nurses, or Aubrey had tried to get to her go home, to sleep for a few hours and shower and eat, Beca had refused. She had to be here for Chloe, she didn’t want her to wake up alone, to be in pain and scared because there was no-one she knew to tell her that everything was okay.
Because she was going to wake up. As terrifying as it was to see all the wires and tubes attached to her, to see the machine that was breathing for her, Beca knew that there was no way Chloe wouldn’t wake up. She loved her too much to leave her like this, to die on her after only two years of marriage. They were supposed to spend the rest of their lives together, Chloe had promised her, Chloe never broke a promise.
“You’re going to be okay baby.” Beca whispered against the back of her hand, tears in her eyes as she repeated the same thing she had every day since they’d gotten here, “You’re going to be fine. You’re going to wake up, and we’re going to go home and carry on with our lives, put this whole thing behind us. I love you, just wake up Chloe... please, just wake up.”
A hand rested on her shoulder, Beca sniffing hard as she turned to see Aubrey. She had been there every day too, but unlike Beca she went home at night to sleep and came back as early as she could. Beca didn’t know how she would have survived the last four days without her, she had been her rock, the only person that Beca trusted as much as she did Chloe.
“I can sit with her for a while Beca, you’ve barely slept or eaten...” Aubrey’s expression was full of concern as Beca shook her head.
“No... she needs to know I’m here. She was asking for me Aubrey, before she passed out she was asking for me and I wasn’t here... so I’m not going anywhere until she wakes up.”
Aubrey sighed softly as she sat next to Beca, “Chloe would not want you to run yourself into the ground like this Beca. She’d want you to sleep, to eat, to look after yourself in the middle of all this.”
“I can’t.” Beca whimpered a little, squeezing Chloe’s hand tighter, “Look at her Bree, how could I leave when she’s like this?”
Aubrey couldn’t answer that, settling instead for resting her head on Beca’s shoulder. Beca was stubborn at the best of times, but when it came to Chloe she was immovable, and Aubrey certainly wasn’t going on push her on this of all things.
“Chloe?”
Aubrey’s head lifted again, sharply as she looked over at the bed, Beca having sat forward with tears in her eyes. Her heart lept into her throat as she saw an achingly familiar pair of blue eyes starting to flutter open.
“Bree, get a nurse.” Beca mumbled, Aubrey hastily scrambling from the room as Beca cupped the side of Chloe’s face with her hand, a tearful grin on her face, “Hey Chlo... it’s okay, I’m here now, you’re okay.”
Chloe’s eyes were full of tears as her hand squeezed Beca’s back, Beca stroking her hair as a doctor and a nurse joined Aubrey. The tube was quickly and gently removed, Chloe gagging a little as it was, Beca wasting no time in pressing soft kisses to her cheek.
“B- B- Beca?” Chloe’s voice was a little slurred as she stammered out her name, Beca’s frown deep as she looked over at the doctor.
“Chloe, do you know where you are?” The doctor pushed gently.
“H- H- Hospital.” Chloe mumbled, Beca’s heart breaking a little as she saw fear and confusion in Chloe’s face as she struggled with her words, “C-Crash?”
“Yeah.” Beca nodded, kissing the back of Chloe’s hand, “You were in a crash Chlo, it’s okay though now. You’re safe.”
“W- W- Why... no... t- t- talk?” Chloe was crying softly as every word became a fight, Beca’s grip tight as her fingers ran through her hair.
“You’ve suffered a head injury Chloe.” The doctor was patient as Chloe’s hand began to shake in Beca’s, “There was some swelling that’s gone down, but it was around the language and processing center of your brain. There’s a good chance that some damage was done that’s affecting your speech, but we can work on that.”
“She’ll be okay right?” Beca frowned deeper, her stomach sweeping at the thought of Chloe’s ordeal not being over.
“We can’t know for certain just yet, but we’ll do a brain scan that will tell us more, and go from there.” The doctor was still smiling, “I’ll go and book you in for one, it should be about an hour. In the meantime, just rest. You came out of a nasty wreck with your life, you’re pretty lucky.”
Chloe’s gaze turned to Beca who was still running her fingers through her hair, looking at her like she was the most precious thing in the world.
“S- S- Sorry...” Chloe bit her lip, tears rolling down her cheeks.
“You have nothing to be sorry for.” Beca shook her head furiously, “This isn’t your fault, it’s on the jackass who barreled into you at seventy miles an hour through a red light. I’m so glad you’re awake Chloe, you’ve no idea how good it is to see your eyes again...”
“S-Scared.” Chloe sobbed as Beca pressed a gentle kiss to her temple, “W- Want... t- talk...”
“I know.” Beca sniffled, “I know baby. You’ll get there, and I’m going to be right here to help you okay?”
“L- L- Love you.” Chloe pressed her forehead into Beca’s.
“I love you too.” Beca promised her, “No matter what Chlo, I love you too okay? We’ll get through this. I promise.”

FFXIV Write 2021 #15: Thunderous
Tumblr media
((A longer one. Violence, blood, and fire. Not safe for heretics or dragoons as we step back to last week and the aftermath of “Heady”...))
“There they are!” X’rhun exclaimed. “Thank the gods!”
Alberic only puffed a breath in agreement as they ran across and down the ravine to where Aeryn was tending to an ashen-faced Heustienne.
“The cavalry has arrived,” the injured dragoon said dryly, her damaged chainmail removed to allow Aeryn access to the wound. Not the worst Heustienne had ever taken, but more than bad enough.
“Thank Halone you’re safe,” Alberic said as X’rhun dropped to his knees next to the women to lend his own aid if needed. “We heard from Kal Myhk you’d tangled with a group of heretics—”
“They took us to Avengret,” Aeryn’s voice cut him off; quiet, too steady, too calm.
For a moment the world paused, until X’rhun’s tail lashed as he turned to look up at Alberic.
Aeryn wasn’t looking at him, her hands resting on her knees now, feet tucked under her. Heustienne’s gaze flicked between Aeryn and Alberic, her own questions barely held back.
“Let’s get Heustienne upright,” X’rhun said gently. “And then get back to—”
“Anyx Trine?” Aeryn interrupted. “Will they tell me the truth if I ask? They must know. If what she said is true.” She turned her head slightly toward Alberic without raising her face, looking at his boots. “She said I should ask you.”
“Aeryn…” His mouth was dry.
She looked up finally, lips parting to say more, but instead she drew in a sharp breath, eyes wide and shining silver, not seeing Alberic or anything else around her now.
He groaned, whether in fear or agony or relief, he wasn’t certain.
——
Alberic followed Corran Striker into the house. It was a pleasant little place, clean and airy. The edges of the walls were lined with brightly painted flower and vine designs, and small pieces of colored glass bordered the custom-framed windows to allow some of the light to also reflect rainbows into the rooms--that couldn’t have been cheap, Alberic thought.
“Please, leave your helm and lance by the door. I think my wife will forgive the boots this time.”
“I keep the lance close to hand, you understand,” Alberic replied as he at least set down his helm on the table by the door.
There was evidence of children; their house slippers by the door, a doll on a chair, a set of tin knights cluttering the low table in the sitting room. His heart ached. “What a lovely home,” he said. “Will the missus and children be joining us?”
Corran shook his head. “Emelia’s running some of her crafts all the way to Fallgourd in the Shroud, and took Zaine and Aeryn with her for the fun. They’ve been cooped up too long, she thought.” He smiled fondly. “It’s a way she deals with her homesickness, and shares that part of herself with our children; she grew up traveling part of the year selling wares as a girl in Thavnair.”
Relief, but also renewed wariness prickled along Alberic’s spine as he followed Corran to the kitchen, leaning his lance on the wall right behind his chair as he took the offered seat at the dining table. “Thavnair? That’s a ways away. Explains the colors though.”
“I got rather lucky,” Corran replied, his tone warm and genuine. “She misses it, but is somehow willing to stay with me.”
“Ever think of visiting?” Alberic asked casually as Corran went about the motions of preparing the lunch he had offered the tired dragoon when they had accidentally met in the treacherous priest’s chapel. Corran had seemed surprised to learn of Comfraire’s heresy, but had offered hospitality despite his own shaken state.
“If there wasn’t always so much work to do, perhaps someday we could,” Corran said quietly.
“I think I’d take the chance, perhaps even move permanently, were I a common man with a family. Get the children far from the war, among the wife’s people.”
“I won’t lie; the thought has occurred to me,” Corran said. “Though I’m surprised, Ser Azure; I’d think one like you would want to keep promising future soldiers for the war in Ishgard.”
Alberic shrugged. “As I said; were I a common man, with a foreign wife who misses her home and children with futures to think of.”
The chronometer in the hall ticked steadily as Corran worked. “Perhaps. Though much as she misses Thavnair, I’d miss Coerthas. I love my home, Ser Azure. There’s little I wouldn't do to see our homeland prosper.”
Alberic did not reply, not trusting his tongue to respond to the man’s gall.
As Corran came to the table with sandwiches and a decent-looking ale, Alberic smiled. “Then perhaps you can aid me in protecting our homeland,” he said. He hoped he was wrong about Corran. “I am tracking a dangerous creature I believe the false priest Comfraire was working with, coordinating an imminent attack from the Horde.”
Corran raised an eyebrow. “I’m but a simple farmer, Ser. I don’t know what help I could be.” He glanced down at his plate.
The chronometer in the hall continued to tick.
“Know you of anyone Comfraire spent time with, when not pretending to holy duties? Places the priest liked to go when not tending the church? I hear you were among those who escorted the fellow on his daily walks.”
“A duty many of us in the community shared,” Corran replied, tone growing strident. “Do you accuse me of heresy merely for minding an old man on his daily constitutional?”
“No of course not,” Alberic answered. He pulled the correspondence he had found in Comfraire’s hidden desk drawer from his pack. “These letters however do indicate guilt.”
“Well that is another story, isn’t it?” Corran asked, leaning back in his chair. The humble farmer demeanor fell away as he crossed his arms. “Why play along?”
“I wanted to be wrong. You seemed like a decent man with a family you love.”
“I do love them,” Corran replied, voice low and cold. “You’re very unlucky you came this day.”
“She doesn’t know what you really do, does she?”
“And once we’re rid of you, she never will,” Corran said bluntly. “Our war doesn’t concern her.”
“And the children?”
Corran’s grey eyes clouded like thunderstorms, his lips drawn into a snarl. “You’ll never touch them.”
They both leapt, chairs clattering to the ground. Alberic reached for his lance while Corran moved with preternatural speed to the sideboard, pulling a hidden blade he managed to raise in time to block Alberic’s swing.
The house was torn and broken as they fought, Alberic barely able to acknowledge the damage as they threw each other against walls and through furnishings. Corran had an advantage with his shorter blade in the cramped space, but Alberic was a far more practiced fighter. If he could get hold of a sword--or better disarm Corran of his--then the heretic would soon be at his mercy.
He finally saw his moment, spinning his lance to baffle Corran’s blade before using his more heavily armored frame to knock the taller man through a door and into what had to be the master bedroom.
The sword went sliding the opposite way down the hall, and Corran laughed bitterly.
“Give it up, Striker,” Alberic said, pointing his lance. He could see Corran’s waist and legs, but the broken door obscured his head. “Tell me about the coming attack!”
Corran's laugh only continued, growing deeper and more growling. Alberic’s eyes widened as he saw Corran’s body jerk, bones cracking and skin tearing, swelling as scales overtook skin.
He swung to drive his lance down through the man as a roar shook the windows, and through the back wall an aevis tore its way inside, the colorfully bordered window panes shattering across the bedding. The dragon leapt at Alberic, and he swung up, barely blocking the creature’s jaws from clamping onto his still helm-less head as they skid down the hall from the momentum of its impact.
Alberic managed to roll out of the way as the aevis let loose a gout of flame, the fire catching on broken furniture. It came for him again but he had made it to his feet, dashing back toward the kitchen for room to move. The aevis lunged at him as Alberic braced himself, a heel against the base of the sink.
His lance caught the beast’s chest and with a roar of his own from his Inner Dragon surging forth, he used the dragon’s momentum to pierce it deeper, throwing it over his shoulder and halfway through the large window, more bright glass breaking as the thing flailed, screaming flames across the yard as it bled out around the lance through it.
Alberic had no time to retrieve his weapon as Corran came for him, tearing apart the walls to fit his new bulk through them to get to the dragoon. He was larger than most transformations Alberic had seen, a heavy red wyvern, powerful and burning, his eyes filled with the same intelligence they had held as a man.
Alberic swore and dove out of the way of claws longer than his own hands. He managed to duck and roll under and past Corran and back into the hallway, needing the smaller space to disadvantage the dragon. Assuming said dragon didn’t just shoulder the walls out of his way, his fiery head rearing back to blast Alberic.
He barely managed to dodge, the heat unbearable as the walls with their pretty flower paint warped, melted, and crisped in the heat, flames now filling the house. He couldn’t last in here much longer, but also couldn’t let this fight further endanger the rest of the village, the commotion surely drawing attention, though any other knights would be too far away while Corran likely had more allies nearby.
His feet hit more metal that clattered, and he remembered Corran’s sword. As the beast came for him again, Alberic ducked to retrieve it, rolling in low as Corran leaped at him. With another shout, Alberic swung up, sliding along the floor on his knees as Corran passed overhead, the sword slicing down the wyvern’s side.
Corran screeched, landing heavily against the door in a tangle, blood flowing freely, wings and talons unable to get purchase in the too small space.
Alberic breathed heavily as he stood and hurried into the kitchen. The aevis was still jerking through its death throes, making a pathetic, pained cry as he yanked his lance from it, more blood pumping onto the sink and floor.
Alberic returned to the hall. Corran watched him, panting himself, lifesblood pooling around him as smoke filled the air.
“Finish me,” the dragon rumbled, in something resembling Corran’s voice. “But I want a promise first.”
“A promise?” Alberic asked. “Why should I pledge aught to a heretic?”
A weary claw gestured, holding a limp, blood-covered ragdoll. Alberic went cold. “For...them. They’re innocent. But we both know...Inquisitors….”
Alberic coughed as he shivered. They wouldn’t care that the children were only children. They wouldn’t care if Mistress Striker was Thavnairian--if anything, that would make it worse for her, no matter if she truly was unaware of her husband’s sins.
“Maybe...she’ll take them home,” Corran said. “She misses it. They could have…Not this.” His eyes met Alberic’s.
They were the grey eyes of a man.
Alberic nodded. “I promise,” he answered, as he pushed his lance through the wyvern’s heart. “Your family won’t pay for your sins.”
When he opened his smoke-stung eyes again, the dragon was gone, Corran Striker’s lifeless form before him, eyes colorless glass, smiling in relief.
Alberic considered for a moment, then drug Corran’s body toward the heaviest flames devouring the house, throwing him into the fire. With luck it would be so burned as to obscure how he had truly died, if Alberic was to keep his reckless promise.
The aevis in the kitchen was dead finally. Alberic retrieved the correspondence knocked to the floor during the scuffle, and gritting his teeth, threw all but one sheet into the flame as well; there was mention of a tower. If nothing else he could salvage something from this mess.
The heat and smoke were too much now, and people outside were shouting and trying to put out the flames, a woman screaming as she glimpsed the dragon half-hanging from the kitchen.
Alberic stumbled outside, battered and bloodied, and fell unconscious at the feet of the Strikers’ neighbors.
—————
It took only a few eye blinks before Aeryn’s groan echoed Alberic’s from a moment before. X’rhun tried to call to her, but she was on her feet in the next eye blink. She whirled in Alberic’s direction, braid whipping so quickly the end came back around to strike her cheek, unnoticed. Her eyes were a storm, lightning crackling in them.
Alberic did not move. He distantly realized that there was nothing any of the three of them could do to stop her of all people.
She flung herself forward and he took the weight of her body slamming into his, her hands gripping at his coat.
That was all.
Alberic didn’t dare move as she trembled against him, head down. X’rhun and Heustienne watched, breath held. Perhaps they had realized the same thing he had.
"I'd forgotten the windows,” Aeryn said hoarsely. “They were almost new; a Starlight gift from him, for Mama."
Alberic said nothing. What could he say?
“You didn’t tell me.”
He sighed. It took a moment to make sound. “By the time I’d realized who you were, why you were so familiar...Well, we had that mess with Estinien and neither of us were in any shape for more terrible revelations. Not the easiest thing to tell a girl you’re the man that killed her father, regardless of the why. And...If the Inquisition, the Ward, if any of them had found out…”
“I’d have handled them,” she said. Neutral, a matter of fact. She wasn’t one to boast.
“Perhaps,” he said. “I thought...Your mother took you to Thavnair. You would have a life there, away from the war. I never expected you to return. To be...this.”
“You should have told me.”
“I know. And you know I’m a sentimental, craven fool.”
She laughed, a wild, bitter noise, finally looking up. Her eyes locked with his, and he thought for as much as she looked like her mother, her eyes were too much like her father’s.
“X’rhun, can you make sure Heustienne gets back to Anyx Trine?” She said, not breaking her gaze with Alberic. The storm still rumbled in her eyes, but all he could see was old smoke.
“Of course,” the Seeker answered. “Aeryn—”
“I’m going home,” she said, shoving Alberic away. He staggered, barely managing to keep his footing. She was stronger than she looked. “I need time to think and rest.”
“You mean Revenant’s Toll, yes?” X’rhun demanded, tail still lashing.
Aeryn only nodded once as she retrieved her pack from next to Heustienne.
“Call me via ‘pearl when you arrive,” X’rhun insisted.
She paused for a moment, then nodded again, shouldering her pack and walking away.
“What the seven hells am I missing?” Heustienne asked after they watched Aeryn’s red coat vanish among the hills. “What did she see? What did you do?”
“Later,” X’rhun said, helping her to her feet. “Let’s get back to something resembling civilization first; Avengret’s heretics may still be on the trail.”
Alberic said nothing, simply following along as they made their way across the wilderness.

Miracle had tucked herself away in the small alcove above the hospital's chapel. Her bright yellow dress made dull by the dust it had collected on the way up here, she suspected the same dust would be staining her cheeks had she not given up on corporality for the time being.
She could feel her sister becoming weaker in the hospital room far above.
She could feel her own body waning too. Her fingers flickered when she tried to rub the tears from her face and her seat on this beam was growing less a matter of being supported by it and more a matter of her own will keeping her from drifting through it.
Miracle planned to let them both fade away, her sister surrounded by their friends and her alone and forgotten like she always was.
It was a good plan, she thought, the car accident had knocked Wish out and left Miracle with the opportunity to make their separation look like something natural instead of Miracle betraying her own twin and killing them both. She didn't want everyone to hate her when she was dead just as much as they did when she lived.
It was a good plan, but one that seemed destine to be interupted.
The chapel doors opened and a moment later closed, the soft click accompanied with a soft hiss of pain, followed by the clack clack clack if Haze's heels on the hardwood floors.
She could try and hide from him, but knowing the demon, he'd probably be on her side in this mess. Wish dying would cause all the despair and misery he could ever want.
He looked around the chapel, his arms crossed tight across his chest, until he spotted her up in the rafters.
"Miracle? Parlay. I've been looking everywhere for you," He sighed in relief and appeared on the beam across from her, "Are you going to tell me why you're going kamikaze?" his massive black sunglasses made his expression hard to read, but his voice carried that fog of worry all the same.
"I don't want to be her shadow anymore," she spat, of course he'd find a way to wring a little more anger out of her before she could finally fade away, "I'm done with this, and I'm done with her. I'm done being the imaginary friend whose stuck taking care of her when she's too weak to take care of her self,"
"And you'd kill yourself to do that?"
"What other option Is there? Wish doesn't Get how much it sucks to not exist so she has been dragging her feet on helping, Sammy keeps saying we are better together and just need to figure out our differences, Mom doesn't want anyone to know about me, and no one else can even Hear me when Wish is in control. Im Trapped, and this is the only way to get out," she wiped at her eyes, furious tears adding a sob to her words, "No one gets it,"
"No one gets what it's like to be a barely corporeal monster completely at the whims of a human?" he cocked his head,
"It's different, you can leave Aleistar. You arn't stuck in his head all day until he feels like letting you out,"
"Fair point. But, Miracle, you've forgotten that I know you're here, I can hear you just fine when she's in control, and I can help you. I want to help you,"
"Oh so I'll be on your side when the war between good and evil comes or whatever it is Sammy is always on about?" she huffed, "I'd rather just be dead,"
"Sammy is old, she's forgotten a lot, like the fact that that war is over and has been for centuries. But, that's not the matter at hand Miracle. I can help you. I want to help you. We'll get you your own body, ok?"
"What do you get out of it?"
"Nothing. I don't need to get anything out of it,"
"What's your plan then? Do you even have one?"
"Not really, but I know the spirit who cursed you and your sister to be like this, he might be able to help, and there's those two witches who I've got enough sway over so they'll lend a hand or two, and Aleistar is getting better and better with his magic everyday, and Sammy might bitch and moan about evils spirits and dark magics but she'll help too when push comes to shove, and your friends love you so they'll probably pitch in, and I'm sure I can pull in favors from everyone else I need to to get you your own body.
"This is doable Miracle. I promise it on everything I have,"
Miracle looked at him her scowl still tight across her face. She didn't believe him, how could she? He was a demon who only ever played in soft words and smooth tricks. But he was also Haze. The one adult in her life who never faltered in his belief in her. Even if he was her and her teams nemesis, he was always true to his promises.
"Everyone is going to be mad at me when I go back to her," Miracle sighed. "What about that?"
"They don't know you left. I've got Aleistar distracting Sammy, and Cherry hasn't arrived yet, so we can sneak you back in without anyone seeing you," he shrugs, "This talk will be our little secret. And when I've got progress to report I'll just say I started looking on my own,"
"Thanks Haze," she shrugged, "I guess I should go back now," there wasn't a lot else she could do, but still the idea of once again being bound to her sister made her sick to her stomach.
"You could, Or we could go haunt that arcade first. I say we've got about 30 minutes until you actually need to be back in the body with your sister. Might as well have fun with them.

id love to hear your take on the "I love you in the same way there's a chapel in a hospital" line from hum hallelujah
Oooo hell yeah... this is one of my favorite songs lyric-wise, and that line in particular makes me just... so crazy lol
So, the entirety of hum hallelujah is Very much coated in religious imagery. And this lyric, like, Fully encompasses that aspect of this song, I think, as the whole song is basically about persevering through all the terrible shit in life and Recognizing the terrible stuff, even if that doesn't necessarily mean Coping with it all well... And this lyric is, essentially, saying that the narrator loves this person in a Very toxic way.
A chapel in a hospital is Most Definitely used to bring people comfort when their loved one is critical or dying, it's a sort of place of peace and comfort in such a terrible time for anyone. But even in that 'peace' is such deep despair, as you're only In that chapel Because someone you know is dying. And there's no positive to be made of that. Whatever peace or hope is given in hospital chapels, it is false. A mirage.
So... Comparing their Love for this person to That is uh... Not good? To say the least? The narrator is saying they love this person because it's the only thing giving a (false) sense of hope and security, it's the only thing getting them through what their going through... and the relationship was probably created out of a Necessity for comfort (as chapels in hospital were), not love. Just like the lyric 'I thought I love you / It was just how you looked in the light' follows the same theme, it isn't real love, it's manufactured or faked for a sense of security when everything else is going to hell.
Another thing to note would be the contradictory nature of having a chapel (place of religion) in a hospital (place of science), which could apply to the relationship in saying them being a thing at all is contradictory and, at a base level, doesn't make any sense.

Schrödinger’s Leak
We’re extremely sorry to say: this is fake. We made it because we’re agents of chaos  to prove that it was possible to do something like this in two days. It took a lot of work at the sacrifice of our sanity, but we did it, and filmed on a phone like the original leak was, it could pass off as real. (Look through this blog if you want to see the ugly truth of the HD version.)
The problem is...we were originally doing this to prove that the leak was real, because “no way someone would do this in two day, especially without getting paid”, and instead not only we realized it’s possible, but we’re left with more doubts than before. Keep on reading if you’re interested in what we (didn’t) find out, and what we did to put this together.
We could have posted this a bit earlier, but we didn’t want to distract from the #SomethingToSay campaign.
IO TI AMO
Guys. Guys, we wish we could explain the sheer amount of things Vittorio Guerrieri, Cas’ voice actor, has been in. This man is in every anime dub ever, it’s impressive—we knew finding that specific “Io ti amo” was a losing battle, but we still tried.
Oh, God, did we try. We went through English scripts of all the rom-coms he’s dubbed; compared that to the Italian subtitles of those same movies, looked for working links to stream the Italian dub and check if the “I love you”s we found were the right one....brain cells were lost. Progress was not made.
We settled on using the one in Marley & I (lmao), that Owen Wilson’s character says to the dog  to his wife. It’s even better than the one in the leak, in our humble opinion, @ og leaker, suck our collective dicks.
Pictured here: Owen Wilson confessing his undying love for Dean Winchester (as he should).

ANCHE IO
The closest match we had is Dean's Anch'io, (me too).
Although it wasn't a Supernatural "exclusive" line, we decided to search within the original scripts and look for an Italian corrispondance. We found it.
2x20 [9.54] - What Is And What Should Never Be It not only was a perfect match in terms of sounds, but after analyzing the file with Audacity we had no doubt about it. Furthermore, if you overlap the OG leak's "me too" with the one we found, they seem to perfectly fit.
Listen to the cleaned and compared audios here, and stay tuned for our mixtape, it’s gonna be straight fire.
Here are the graphs. The “Anche io” from 2x20:

“Anche io” from the leak:

Obviously we didn’t expect them to look the same, considering the differences in audio quality, but they’re still very similar. It was listening to the audios side by side that convinced us.
...Is this proof that the leak is fake? Idk. Probably yes. But what if it’s a coincidence that they’re so similar? How different could the two graphs for two small words said by the same person possibly be, after all. And what about all the other lines that we couldn’t find a match for? You see now why we’re conflicted.
CASTIEL
The original idea was to go through every. single. time. Dean says “Castiel” in the Italian dub, hoping to find a perfect match for the one in the leak. We figured every other line could have been taken from the voice actors’ older works (both Castiel’s and Dean’s are very popular here in Italy, and their voices have appeared in...everything, basically)—but that Castiel” had to come form Supernatural.
We didn’t find it. We went through a lot of the episodes with Castiel in them, the ones with more emotional scenes first, and found nothing...we ended up getting distracted by the search for Mi dispiace, Dean, when we realized that also had to come from Supernatural. We settled on using the first close match we thought of: the scene in 09x01 where Dean is praying in the hospital’s chapel.
This is not the “Castiel” used in the leak, so we can’t prove that it’s a recycled line stoled from an older episode of the Italian dub. For all we now, Stefano recorded it for 15x18.

“Castiel” from the leak:

Does this prove anything, considering how bad the audio quality of the leak is? We wouldn’t get the same exact graph even if it was the same snippet of audio. (By the way, when we started this we thought that Dean had rarely said Castiel’s name like that in the dub. We’d forgotten than Italian!Dean never calls him Cas, the asshole.)
The same problem remains: did the leaker find some obscure anime episode where Guerrieri says Io ti amo and used it to dub Castiel, or is this all very real, and that’s why we couldn’t find it anywhere? We don’t know, we just don’t know.
MI DISPIACE, DEAN
Apart from the very wistful "Castiel..." right before Dean gets chucked on the ground (lol get rekt), the other line that came without a doubt from Supernatural is "Mi dispiace, Dean."
I'm sorry, Dean, a sentence that Cas doesn't say that often throughout the show: we checked the English scripts, and we found only three instances where it happens (we only have up until season 13 dubbed in Italian, so if he ever says it in the remaining two seasons, it certainly doesn't have an Italian version).
5x22 - Swan Song: Cas says it, and it's very obviously not the one in the leak. The tone is completely different. 6x22 - Meet the new boss: again, close but no cigar. 7x01 - Reading is fundamental: at first we thought it was the exact same one, and that's why this particular Mi dispiace, Dean is the one you can hear in our fake leak. After checking with Audacity, the one in the episode and the one in the og leak don't correspond. It's just the closest we could find.
So...? What does this mean? We don't know. It's very possible that Italian!Castiel does say Mi dispiace, Dean somewhere in another episode, straying away from the original English script, but without transcriptions of the Italian dub available online, we had no idea where to start.
It's also possible that the leak is real, and that's why we found no doubles for this line.
Also: we've seen people in various posts about the leak saying that the change from "Goodbye, Dean" to "I'm sorry, Dean" is suspicious. It's not uncommon to change lines if it means lipsinking them better, and considering what was happening in the scene, it's not out of place to have Cas apologize to Dean. It wouldn't sound weird to someone who has never watched the original episode.
But, there's another argument to make...Cas has never said goodbye, Dean in older episodes (as far as we could find), and the og leaker was forced to use the next best thing they could find in the Italian dub.
THAT MONITOR...THAT DAMNED MONITOR...
That monitor in the leak looked so sus at first. Is it normal for professional studios to use equipment older than some people on this hell site?
Apparently yes.
We've found a bunch of photos of voice actors in front of the screen they use at work, and they all look like that. Dusty.
Tumblr media
These pictures also confirmed that the punctuation in the frame rate changes—sometimes it's all :, sometimes it's all ; (like in the case of the OG leak), sometimes it's mixed. Once again, we can't prove anything one way or another.
Tumblr media
This is a pic from 2009 of Davide Chevalier, Sam's voice actor, and the framerate looks different from the one in the leak...then again, it's from 2009. What does it mean? What does it all mean?
FINAL CRIES FOR HELP
If you know more than us, please tell us:
Did we read the Audacity graphs correctly? Do they prove/disprove anything that we didn’t mention?
Does the framerate make any sense? Are we being bamboozled?
Do you have any insight on whether or not season 15 is already been dubbed? We know that season 14 will go on air in bundles of three episodes starting from the 12th of December, so it’s not crazy to think season 15 is already in the works.
Was this worth it? Was any of this worth it? We slept very few hours last night.
tl;dr: in conclusion, we CAN’T affirm with absolute certainty if the Italian leak is fake or not, since we have evidences leading both way. Sadly, the final word will be when the episode will actually air next year.

Hey!
So, I was wondering if you could help me out. I listened to FOB way back in 2005, specifically only one of their albums. I want to try getting into their music. Do you have a playlist or any recommendations or anything?
I've only ever heard their From Under The Cork Tree album. (These songs specifically 'Dance, Dance', 'Sugar, We're Goin Down', I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me', and 'A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More "Touch Me"')
Thanks EGT!
omggggggg. I had a friend ask me this once and I tried to pick one song from each album and...no, that didn’t work, I couldn’t whittle it down, OOPS, but HERE WE GO. Their sound evolves from album to album, so the songs off of Mania sound very different than the songs off TTTYG, and they get criticized for that sometimes, but maybe because I came to them late, they all sound like the same band, just people who aged from 20 to 40 in the past twenty years, you know, as people tend to do.
From Take This to Your Grave:
Saturday - The Pete & Patrick song! Also the final song at their concerts. Also enjoy the ridiculously homoerotic premise of the video.
Chicago Is So Two Years Ago - I especially love this live version of this song, it just makes me happy. Happy as I can be for a song where the girl says “boys like you are overrated” and so the boy says, “I wish to curse you so that your lips taste of me forever” lol
Grand Theft Autumn / Where Is Your Boy - Pete on this song: “When Patrick wrote it the lyric was ‘where is your man’ and I was like, ‘Patrick, you’re seventeen, change that to your boy’“ lolololololol I am paraphrasing but not much
From From Under the Cork Tree: (this album I actually struggled with what to rec, and I decided on just one from here, since it’s the one you know the most)
Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Wouldn’t Get Sued - “It’s just past eight, and I’m feeling young and reckless / The ribbon on my wrist says, ‘Do not open before Christmas’“
From Infinity on High (ugh love THERE ARE TOO MANY HERE OH WELL):
“The Take Over, The Breaks Over” - I read a description once of Patrick’s songwriting that said something like he overloads songs with hooks, and this song embodies that for me, there are so many melodies in here I love, especially “don’t pretend you ever forgot about me” ugh
Hum Hallelujah - Probably my favorite song of theirs lyrically, every single line of this song is stunning, and it’s got two of my all-time favorites: “One day we’ll get nostalgic for disaster” and “I can write it better than you ever felt it.” But really, EVERY line is perfect. “I love you in the same way there’s a chapel in a hospital?” Perfect. THE REFRAIN. Perfect. It’s just lyrically perfect ugh.
(After) Life of the Party - This is my favorite song on this album. Look, the official lyric sites will tell you the refrain is “cut it loose” but I choose to hear it as “could it last” and that makes this beautiful song the pining love song I think it should be lol. And THE END OF THIS SONG is just Patrick tour de force singing, that last held note ugh Also “put love on hold, young Hollywood is on the other line” is excellent but even better in the form it first appeared in on one of Pete’s blogs: “put the love on hold, anticipation is on the other line and excitement called while you were out.”
(honorable mention: You’re Crashing, But You’re No Wave - Just throwing a little bit of love toward the lawyer song. “Boys in three pieces dream of grandstanding and bravado / The city sleeps in a cell notwithstanding what we all know”)
From Folie a Deux: (I always think IOH is my favorite album and then I look at the tracklist for Folie and I’m like, UGH lol)
Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes - Possibly my favorite FOB song ever (at least right now). Also, it’s their opener in recent tours, so that probably contributes to the fondness.
(Coffee’s for Closers) - Another “how many melodies does one song need” song lol
What a Catch, Donnie - THIS STUPID SONG OH MY GOD. The nostalgic self-indulgent medley at the end of this song KILLS ME EVERY SINGLE TIME STOPPPPPP
From Save Rock and Roll:
The Mighty Fall - The first time I teased out the lyric “your crooked love is just a pyramid scheme,” I think I uttered a little gasp in the car lol
Miss Missing You - Oh heyyyyyy the hot whiskey eyes song
Save Rock and Roll - I will never get over that Fall Out Boy titled a song (and album) Save Rock and Roll and the song (and album) is...actually fantastic ugh
From American Beauty / American Psycho:
The Kids Aren’t Alright - “And in the end, I’d do it all again, I think you’re my best friend”
Fourth of July - IN BETWEEN BEING YOUNG AND BEING RIGHT, YOU WERE MY VERSAILLES AT NIGHT sorry, just many hearts around that (also “I’m sorry every song’s about you” lololol)
Twin Skeleton’s (Hotel in NYC) - Okay, but the way Patrick snarls “I could just die laughing on your spiral of shame” -- and the fact that THIS SONG CLOSES OUT THE ALBUM ugh
From Mania:
Young and Menace - This might be a controversial pick??? But I LOVE this song, I think it is sheer genius, sometimes I listen to it on endless repeat.
The Last of the Real Ones - I think this is a great song that probably deserved more radio play than it got. And it’s got really great lyrics. “I wonder if your therapist knows everything about me” always gets me.
Wilson (Expensive Mistakes) - “When I say, ‘I'm sorry I'm late,’ I wasn't showing up at all / I really mean I didn't plan on showing up at all”
