hell, i like to think so!! 😳 dan's voice lives rent-free in my head: while writing him, i legitimately imagine actual audio to go along with every word so i can figure out his cadence. his voice is deep and warm, a combination of southern and midwestern charm - i haven't found the perfect match, tbh. i can give you summations?

he's got the baritone depth of a young sam elliott (he's got them big lungs and a deep, cavernous chest this man resonates) but more of the accent of arthur morgan (without the gruff) - then just listen to all of johnny cash's "ghost riders in the sky" and you have an idea of what i hear dkhfkfh

being married, it seems. dfsdhffk dallas is actually quite a free-spirit: they're not interested in relationships beyond them forming naturally. they seek out people who are interesting, who engage with them when they talk, who carry an aura of unapologetic "i'm hot and you know it" kind of energy - they also like sweethearts who blush when they smile their way, or the nervous kinds whose hands shake on their knees while they give them lapdances.

it's a touch so light, if one wasn't paying attention, they might not even notice it in the first place. but mikitaka still seems to almost- flinch when he realises he's fallen into the trap of letting curiosity get the better of himself once again.

frowning lightly, his gaze flicks up to meet that of the other as he draws his hand back to his side, somewhere between embarrassed and worried.

"your life… has been quite harsh on you, hasn't it..?"

a question in functionality, but a statement in its knowing tone.

"i hope time shows you more kindness than it has thus far."

He doesn't react in time when he finds a hand going towards his face, having lowered his guard so much with Mikitaka that his own hands don't even raise up to defend him against whatever fate may be throwing at him rather suddenly. It could have been a random assailant, an enemy of the town harassing what they thought were helpless bystanders (from what he was told, this town had its fair share of those who selfishly caused trouble for others.) However, this would be a very rare occasion where moving too slow would actually benefit more than anything else, as he would soon find that it was none other than Mikitaka himself who would put his hands upon the hybrid's face, pressing his finger ever so delicately against a scar across his cheek.

He says nothing at first as a question was given, unsure of how to answer the other's question, and uncertain how much of his past would be appropriate to suddenly divulge. But in the midst of his contemplation, the other speaks up once more, having inferred the answer himself.

There's a vulnerability in the moment, it was as if he had been seen and he now needed to decide whether he were to hide or acknowledge the situation. Mikitaka, for his part, seemed more open and accepting than he expected of most, but there was much he had not known about the friend he had surprisingly found a connection with, but would he accept the grandiose nature of everything? It might be too overwhelming to confess everything all at once; he simply decides to take it one step at a time, and the two would slowly understand each other more and more, and whatever happened would simply happen.

"...I- My life-"

He can't find the words. It's strange, he had told his story before, he had reflected upon his life before. And yet here and now, it was as if it was his first time.

"It's been... the stuff of nightmares some times. But that's why I appreciate moments of peace more than you'd know."

A beat.

"You know, you probably hear this all the time, but you're very kind, Mikitaka. Thank you."

"I love how the lake looks at this time of morning... I can see why you do, too. It's so pretty... Ah, I think there's actually a spot around here, that gives you an especially pretty view of it. If you'd like... I brought some treats for us to enjoy together: perhaps we could so, while relaxing in that spot for a while? Hehe..." The stairs were a bit steep, so they would have to slowly and carefully climb them. Though as he was prepared to do that... he halted in surprise when Maki had reached to grab his hand. "....!" Such a sudden action took him by great surprise. Touching his hand so delicately, tenderly... as if he were a princess in those old historical dramas. For a moment, he couldn't help but look between her and their hands. "A...Ah...."

A dark red dusted his cheeks. Did she do this, maybe.... to make sure he'd safely climb the stairs? Or because... she just wanted to? That part of him found himself hoping... it was morso the latter.... and found himself thinking how warm her hand felt, touching his so softly like this. "H...H-Hehe..." But worried if his surprised reaction might make her wonder if he's okay with this or not, he gives her a shy, but warm smile... and cups her hand right back. "I.... I-I'm okay with this. Your hand feels nice to hold... u-um, if that's not, weird t-to say!" He chuckles, finding himself blushing even harder the more he stammers. But finally... does he go to take the first step up the stairs, with her, heart bouncing happily as he whispers: "L... Let's continue going up the stairs one by one... like this, s-shall we...?"

21. Do you have any AUs for your shepard?

well, i'm technically writing one. but is it also weird that i think about butcher of torfan background a lot? my last playthrough was a ruthless shepard (that i tried to play full renegade and failed, because i am soft) and it was very fascinating to think of a lot of the potential choices.

also i am soft in general over meeting-before-the-story type meetings - i absolutely want to see ranch kid shepard interact with aliens! especially awkward cadet garrus!! i have so many thoughts about how their interactions could go, most of them hinging upon the fact that ranch kid shepard has never known a day of self-consciousness in her life and would drag very self-conscious and semi-sheltered garrus into things like playing with herding dogs and running through pastures until they're both muddy and exhausted.

and the age differences would be very funny, too, because a) wrex with a bunch of kids/teens/etc hanging off of him like a jungle gym, b) young father thane looking at these hellions and being scandalized. protectively holding baby kolyat like "you will not grow up to be like those" (sorry, thane, kolyat is worse)

lmao this is one i've never thought of! i'm going to answer "copious amounts of booze", because i love unhealthy and desperate coping mechanisms, and i definitely believe my shepard uses alcohol WAY more than she ought to, enhanced body or not.
