My apologies for disturbing you, but I’m trying to get this concept in my head together. So a few characters of my story are the winds, who represents the north, south, east, and west winds. They all come from different villages who are in the same direction as the winds they represent. They all want to be the master of the winds, saying it will help them or everyone around them in someway- do you have any ideas on why they might want to become master of the winds?

You are never disturbing me, dear!  That’s why my ask box is always open!

Consider what each character wants and what their goals are as well as what they fear and what their secrets are then see how gaining a lot of power could help them achieve their goal and/or protect them from what they fear.

Here are some general ideas:

to gain influence/prestige.  

to protect people they care about and/or themself.

to impress someone they look up to.

to prove that they are capable and/or responsible.

to make a change in the world.

to promote an ideal or belief.

I just want to say how much I love this blog! I kinda have a issues where I come up with a idea, flesh it out a bunch, and then get distracted by another idea and leave the old idea to collect dust until it pops up again... is there anything that can help with this?

Sorry for the delay in answering this but I honestly wasn’t too sure what to say that would be useful since I have mixed thoughts.  

Changing projects isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially if it’s between switching stories or spinning your wheels in frustration because you don’t know what happens next. Switching back and forth can also help with creativity since you are giving yourself a break to mull things over without the pressure of needing to write it.  But sometimes, hopping between stories means you never actually finish anything because you keep going to the next cool idea that catches your interest. So if the goal is finishing a story, then here are some things that might help.

Outlining is useful because it allows you to see the big picture and have guidelines to refer to and follow.  It also allows to more easily see what needs to be added/removed/shifted if you get stuck. I highly recommend using sticky notes on a wall.  Here’s an article about outlining.

See if there are common elements or themes to your stories or characters.  Often there will be certain ideas that you are interested in or preoccupied with that work their way into your writing as a way to explore them and if you can figure out what they are, you can then focus on them into one story.  

Set realistic goals for yourself (realistic is the important word) and allow yourself to modify those goals as you progress.  Challenging yourself to finish a project is good but if you set ridiculous expectations on yourself, you will ultimately just stress yourself out.  Figure out your own pace and what works for you.  It might take some trial and error, but be kind to yourself and don’t beat yourself up just because one way doesn’t work.  And remember to have fun and enjoy what you are writing.

So I’m going to a Murder Mystery party next month, which has a very camp and silly fantasy theme - the premise is that the guests have all been invited to celebrate the wedding of the young King Toffrey (best pun ever) to Lady Chastity, but shortly after arrival, the king is found to be a Dead. BUT WHO DUN IT etc etc.

The guest characters are exactly as silly as you’d expect. In addition to Lady Chastity, there’s Jewel the Rogue, Candida the Healer, Sheena Proudlegs the Warrior, Icy Deadpeeps the Necromancer, Thud the Barbarian, Shazam the wise-ish wizard, McSporran the dwarf, Sir Prancelot the vain knight, and the Black Knight, sword-for-hire. So far, so great.

I am going to be Icy Deadpeeps the Necromancer. I am currently planning my costume. I figured I’d go down the slightly campy, teenage emo-goth route for it, since it’s silly enough to fit the theme; plus, I own a white corset, so you know. Bonus. I’m also going to wear white contacts, because they look hella creepy and are a good mundane way to ‘show’ that you’re using magic, etc.

Anyway I’m trying to pick hair and makeup now. Other than ‘teenage emo goth’ as a moodboard, I figured I might try doing some sort of ‘summoning the dead’ necromancer-y sigils. In fact, I specifically thought I might use the Oblivion symbol from Elder Scrolls.

BUT HERE’S THE PROBLEM

I’ve been looking on Pinterest for inspiration, but while many of the photos I’m finding are very beautiful, I’m very uncomfortably aware that some of them are reeeeeeaaaallly skirting the line with “That’s just racist” like whoa. Like... the point you’re writing the word ‘tribal’ under the fucking photo should really be your goddamn clue, chicken, all that’s missing from half of them is a fucking bone through the nose.

Except now it’s making me look at every single photo, even the innocuous ones, and second guess them and wonder if they’re all racist as all fuck and I’m going to end up being That Guy and the Whitest White to End All Whites. Lordy. 

I might have a go at a sort of tree theme instead.

but!!! on a real note, i do like the hc cloth was in a very tight-knit community. like, she thought of most people there as her family and was generally endeared by them too. when she was younger, she wasn’t really one to initiate conversations, but once you got her going she really loved talking (or even infodumping if they were close to her) abt whatever current hyperfix she’s found! it was usually wrt folk tales, knitting, and she also found weapon forms Neat (even if she never ended up using it w her own fighting style; this is how she got into talking w nola too!!! they shared that interest)

☠ : i feel like, when pushed to anger, cloth ends up closing off. she knows, rationally, it’d be better to talk things out as soon as possible rather than just bottling it up and ignoring it, but she’s also Terrified abt what she’ll say if she gets caught up in it, that she’ll worsen the situation. it’s really the other one who has to acknowledge her anger and let her know, “hey, it’s okay to tell me why you’re angry. i’ll listen and we’ll work it out from there.” and she’ll still be reluctant but. it’s the best you’re gonna get.

QUIRREL:

▼: he grew up in the crossroads!!! his family was. fairly small due to Issues. his parents were pretty supportive of what he wanted to do (which was: stop dealing w excessive pain both from physical training as a guard/warrior and then. chronic pain. fuck chronic pain), tho i will say they were those types that get really nervous that their kid/s will begin to distance themselves if they stray too far from home. it was an understandable fear here tho, because quirrel easily gets caught up in his own projects and the archive Encourages this, so his visits became rarer and, transparent as he is, they don’t. Feel like they’re talking w him anymore. they’re proud! but like. they’re left with only an image of a kid that doesn’t match up w who quirrel’s become.

☠ : hmm it depends, really?

(for hallownest) - he prefers to take it calmly, so if he senses he’s getting “too emotional” abt this sort of stuff, he’ll probably step away temporarily and let the person he’s upset with that he just needs a break, gathering his thoughts, and figuring out what point he means to get across so he doesn’t start adding unnecessary stuff. 

(for post-hallownest) - i feel that, with people he’s unfamiliar with (which is Most People, you don’t really get attached. you have pieces of them, but you aren’t attached), he’ll have a “speak your issues now or forever hold your silence" because he doesn’t plan on staying around them all that long. he’ll snap at them for whatever they’ve done if he deems it an issue worthy enough to be brought to light. however, if he’s friends / acquaintances with them, he knows he’s got to maintain this, he’ll default to how he was while in hallownest.

LURIEN:

▼: oh this is fun. so Basically i fucking destroyed canon because i’m an Idiot and now i’m too stubborn to change it to make more sense.

lurien grew up around the area that was once the white lady’s Area and, ever since she deserted her attempt at building a community to rule, became a sort of ‘wasteland’. most people either delved further into what was to become hallownest or left the area altogether, but some occasionally feel the call to return here. lurien’s born In this area of the failed kingdom, the place is already dealing with the whateverthefuck tpk did when he transferred from the wyrm form to his ‘bug’ form. most buildings have since been destroyed, but lurien’s family (there r a Lot of people.) helped rebuild a few to have places to live. things were going good! he would’ve been perfectly fine w/o hallownest but ah... he was too close to the radiance’s influence. this isn’t necessarily ‘childhood’ anymore but. his family caught the beta infection and lurien, in his attempt to go off and kill the ‘source’ (he thought it was the rulers of hallownest, wl sees the descendant of her mistake and is like :v: and sends him off to see tpk) before he was affected too, tpk went to see what the fuck this was, long story short lurien ended up as the only survivor.

but hey at least he got a new, stronger mask w tpk’s blessing that now prevents the radiance from being able to access his mind. if he had a childhood no he did not <3 it’s all been hallownest <3 ignore your flashbacks <3 self-care <3

☠ : lurien’s generally not one to voice his anger (usually it’s frustration)? if he’s annoyed he’ll be like “hey, stop” (like if he’s talking to soul master bvhsdgm) and if you don’t listen he’ll straight-up just walk away bc he’s too tired to deal w this. one of the only ways to really get him to BE angry is thru genuinely triggering him, which monomon has. accidentally done, prodding too much in an attempt to find his past even tho he doesn’t want to and doesn’t need to. the facts r: he’s in hallownest now, his family is absent, he’s here for this kingdom. nothing else matters, and as much as he loves her, he hates that she tries to find more. he’s not a walking artifact from a rule long gone. all he wants is to preserve the only ‘home’ he’s got left, the only thing left he knows he has.

when he gets angry he. gets impulsive. he keeps his ‘formal tone’ which throws people off, but that’s because that’s the only way he learned to speak hallownest’s language! the only people who really understood him before he began to speak the trade language was wl (who didn’t acknowledge it) and tpk (who only knew of it through wl). he tends to think things he doesn’t really believe (like in one of my recent fics, where he mentions something along the lines of hating monomon. he doesn’t! he loves her a lot. but in these moments he clings to emotions.) and tends to say things without regard for how they will take it or how either will need to deal with it later. sometimes he’ll end up being able to force himself to walk away rather than just snapping at them, but he usually doesn’t have that sort of control, not until the worst of it is through.

I am not sure but I think I saw the game thanks to the trailer from a Nintendo Direct because I waited to see new characters on Smash Ultimate

I was really happy when I saw the cinematics of the trailer and all the wonderful graphism where Nintendo improved so much!!!

With all of that, I deeply hoped this Luigi's Mansion would be better than the first and second games.

🕊- How did they feel when they realized they were dead? Were they scared, angry, or did they feel something else?

O!Paloma = Even if she became amnesic on pratically all her past at this moment, she felt pretty scared and panicked, specially when she discovered just before she didn't have legs. Fortunately Hellen Gravely assured her a lot and took her to the Last Resort so Paloma felt already a little better about accepting being a ghost than it should be if she was completely alone in front of this truth...

F!Paloma = Was really angry and frustrated when she saw her corpse and remembered how she is dead. But she calmed down and was pretty curious to discover all the potential to being a ghost ~

H!Paloma = Just after she was completely burned and dead, she was so determinated to kill her ex-family that she didn't realise she was a ghost at this moment. Just after she successed what she wanted, she finally realised she floated and could pass trough the walls. Her reaction was "Oh! So cool! C:" and she decided to finally get out of the laboratory. She was so happy and curious to see the exterior world!

M!Paloma = She felt deeply depressed and losted, asking herself why she still exists and wanted to have an eternal peace... before she met (M!)Hellen Gravely.
