South Afrika 2005 (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) by Achim
Via Flickr:
(2) A Sunland Baobab tree on Sunland Farm (Platland Farm), near Modjadjiskloof (previously known as Duiwelskloof), Limpopo Province. In one study the tree was carbon-dated and found to be an estimated 1,060 years old, plus or minus 75 years. Results of other studies have however suggested much higher ages (up to 6,000 years). The tree blooms profusely in spring and provides a refuge to two pairs of owls, and other bird species. One third of the Boabab tree collapsed in August 2016.
(3) Hadada Ibis, Dullstrom.
(4) Moonrise in Klein Bolayi near Messina.
(5) Amethyst Sunbird in Warmbath.
(6) Blyde River and the Drakensberg / Drakensberge, Limpopo Province.

top bird photographs of 2023. i didn't necessarily choose the best photos that i've taken, but rather the ones that i like the best. 2024 is the year i'm going to start heading out further and further and finding new habitats - most of what's surrounding and near to me is forest and broad-leafed woodland and, well, it shows. more wetlands, more deserts, more ocean, more grasslands
from left to right: african harrier-hawk, collared sunbird, juvenile burchell's coucal, mocking cliff-chat, white-fronted plover, golden-rumped tinkerbarbet, amethyst sunbird, scaly-throated honeyguide, diederick cuckoo, african oystercatcher, groundscraper thrush, cape batis, black-headed heron and tawny-flanked prinia
photos taken with my canon powershot sx530 hs

Any South(ern) Africans on here have suggestions for a good bird watching app/website? Not a guide or an app that tries to identify birds (I have a proper bird book). Ideally something where people can publically report sightings in their area, upload photos etc (not just an app for creating personal checklists, if that makes sense)
Thanks in advance!
