I want to make it clear, I'm not here to oppose the possibility of people being incarnated souls from other planets. However, if you identify yourself specifically as a starseed - IE, an allegedly advanced spiritual being come here to spread supposed enlightenment - I will have to oppose you on the grounds of you choosing to become a missionary to preach spiritual eugenics and promote cultural genocide. If you aren't a space missionary here to preach spiritual eugenics and promote cultural genocide, then please call yourself literally anything other than "starseed." (No, this term cannot be "reclaimed," as literal white supremacists proudly call themselves "starseeds" right now, and the starseed movement has always been tied in with various racist pseudoscientific crap like ancient alien theory and linear evolution.)

Fuck off my space if you're anti medication/anti therapy. I don't want your toxic bullshit spirituality and you belong in the garbage bin for eugenicists over there.

Spiritual vloggers say things like, “I was diagnosed with PTSD and depression but I don’t claim those.” I know everyone has their own process but it kinda makes me sad? Spiritual bypass doesn’t allow your practice to do anything if you deny what your nervous system survived.
I see the same kind of bypass with chronic illness and autism (“Oh, I’m not neurodivergent and traumatized by an abusive and cruel world, I’m actually a Highly Sensitive Starseed!”) and it all stems from ableism no matter how sparkly you make it sound.
Look, I don’t resonate with most of humanity either. I genuinely feel alien, I do not feel from here. It is comforting to use otherworldly archetypes to process my existence. I think this is the point of existing; our hand-stitched inner mythology.
But… it’s okay to have a disability. It doesn’t make you “out of alignment” or “low vibration” or anything like that.
A higher, more evolved version of humanity is not one in which disability doesn’t exist at all. It’s one in which disability is adequately accommodated for so that we can live comfortably and thrive.
Please keep ableism and eugenics out of spiritual teachings but also out of your inner talk. It does you no good to think of parts of yourself as bad (being punished) in the same way toxic religions and capitalism tell you about these things. “You’re disabled because you sinned” and “you’re not disabled, you’re lazy” are ways we’re taught that disabled people did it to themselves and don’t deserve compassion, much less assistance getting medical care or basic needs met.
Also no shade but when astrologers who study/teach Chiron speak this way I’m like. What.

the mirrored appeals of richard/jason and richard/eugene are those of time, specifically regarding richard's sins. richard/jason is about richard's future: jason only knows him as the desperate hero, a gray hat in search of redemption, someone doing his best to help those he once hurt. it's the specific joy of being able to move forward with someone who doesn't have your worst self in his rearview mirror. jason gets to defend richard because of his present self without really having to reckon with his past self. richard/eugene on the other hand is all about the past and worst self. (not even just on richard's end: they meet when eugene is in the 'cast out of eden' chapter of aio's Original Sin coffee shop AU.) in a lot of ways i think richard's manipulation of nicholas adamsworth is his worst crime as well the one he shows the least remorse for, and eugene is witness to it (and still remembers it years later). to be able to move on from that into a working partnership in dbd and, hypothetically, after that into a close relationship is a triumph of the present over the past, not the future. in this way, richason has the appeal of, say, comet while richgene has the appeal of irenides -- both are incredibly romantic but the situations involved produce very different relationships.

Like a part of me is baffled by those weird ass pro-imperialism /the fire nation is superior fanfics because…not only because it goes against the grain of what the show was about?
But the Fire Nation is stupid sometimes. So very stupid. Only those who have some sort of respect for the spirits tend to have any kind of deep wisdom or foresight at all.
They not only try to kill the moon when they seem to be making a lot of their initial advances using their damn NAVY** but the FN isn’t even responsible it seems for a lot of their more recent technological advantages in the war. It’s possible they got said boats up and running themselves at the start of the war…but I have to wonder if they did anything themselves in the hundred years since. Like at all. Besides kidnapping people and forcing them into slavery.
They threatened an Earth Kingdom man who offered his services and honestly? The fact they did that kind of makes it seem like they’re incapable as it stands of that kind of creativity even if it’s geared towards murder. The FN isn’t your Randian anti-religion pro-scepticism utopia you weirdos.
I mean it gets especially stupid given that this is a world where spirits and divine powers are VERY OBVIOUSLY REAL but even if we somehow discounted that the fN doesn’t seem to have any kind of scientific genius to name. As @greatcolorfan I believe said on a reblog of a related post I made a long while back perhaps it’s the whole blind obedience thing has screwed them over.
**That post where Azula was actually ignorant for going against the tides/got lucky it didn’t blow up in her face starts to make a lot of sense too.

Hello! I saw your post about bloodborn being a gothic fantastic horror and how it is very similar to Frankenstein! I am planning to write an essay for my university course on exactly this topic, (Bloodborne being very similar to Frankenstein) and wondered if you'd want to share your thoughts/ elaborate on that post? :)
Hey! So, I am SO glad you asked this question because you gave me a chance to ramble about one of my current fixations. Basically I think Bloodborne (when it doesn’t dive straight into cosmic horror) pulls a lot of narrative tropes from famous works of gothic fiction, ESPECIALLY Frankenstein. I am going to try to fit in some major points but I’m unfortunately leaving out a few for the sake of brevity.
The first major point I want to bring up is the one I posted about, with youths trying to break the natural order and take power that would otherwise belong to the divine. It’s one of the key aspects of both Frankenstein and Bloodborne. The Byrgenwyrth scholars find something in the tombs which allows them to transcend humanity and heal otherwise impossible injuries, but at a terrible cost. Victor Frankenstein, also a college student, does the same thing, attempting to create a “better human” and is successful but it blows up in his face. Both of these are their narrative’s respective “Prometheus,” the one taking the power of the gods and being punished for it. Hubris is the key word for all of this.
Speaking of that punishment, the phrase “More than human, and human no more” which is used in the Japanese game instead of “we are made men by the blood etc etc.” can be used to apply to MANY gothic novel’s protagonists. It applies to Frankenstein’s creation Adam, Carmilla, Count Dracula and his victim Lucy, and Dorian Grey. All of these creatures have transcended some human weakness, such as death, illness, or emotion, but have lost something key about themselves in the process. This is also the case with the Byrgenwyrth scholars, the school of Menses, and the Healing church. They surpass humanity, sure, according to the game Yharnam reaches new heights of culture, art, science, and refinement… all before the beast plague hits. This comes back to the Prometheus motif. If we consider Laurence, due to his flame motif and founding of the healing church, or Gerhman, due to his confinement by the moon presence, as our “Gothic Protagonist,” it is not only them who is punished by the Great Ones but the whole of Yharnam. This parallels Prometheus being chained by the gods but also Humanity being punished with Pandora and her diseases.
Speaking of Pandora and Lucy, another way in which Bloodborne parallels Gothic lit is the treatment of women in the plot. Even “Badass” women like my beloved Eileen and Maria have very little agency in the plot. You have women such as Ariana and Adeline filling the similar role to Lucy in Dracula or Elizabeth in Frankenstein, being the passive victim of supernatural torment due to the actions of others. Maria and the Doll are another case of this, being primarily described in their relationship to Gehrman and their tragic death, rather than in reference to their own life and choices. Finally, on the flip side, women in the game also have a strange connection or link with the supernatural, which is a recurring theme in gothic lit. (Also sexuality but I don’t want this post to get flagged oops.)
Anyway, this is basically my quick and dirty take on the connections between Bloodborne’s overall arching themes and some of the famous Gothic lit it takes inspiration from! The “don’t play god” and visual motifs, as well as many character archetypes really lends itself to gothic horror well. I also would like to point out the thematic connections between Jurassic park and Frankenstein but that’s an essay for another time.

Eugenicist and bioessentialist beliefs about magic
Like New Age, modern witchcraft developed at a time period when eugenics and so-called race science were highly popular ideas - and consequentially, some of these ideas influenced people’s beliefs about magic. These beliefs also influenced modern conspiracy theories about the occult, which in turn influenced perceptions of magic in general. Here’s some of these beliefs:
People are either born with magical gifts, or they’ll never have them at all.
People born with magical gifts are meant to be spiritual leaders and guide the world into a new age.
There are special bloodlines whose members are more capable of performing magic than others.
People who can perform magic are able to do so only because they have special ancestry.
Some racial groups are more capable of performing magic than others.
Some bloodlines or racial groups are more capable of performing certain kinds of magic than others (EG, so-called “light magic” or “dark magic”).
The traditions of your genetic ancestors will always come to you easily and intuitively, with little to no study required. (And if they don’t, you aren’t a “true witch.”)
Modern witchcraft was also hit by the gender essentialism stick, and claims that come from this line of thinking include:
Magic requires or at least massively benefits from some performance or symbolic representation of heterosexuality or heteronormativity; other forms of magic will be inherently weaker.
Literally all magic is a recreation of heterosexual reproduction.
The womb is a woman’s most potent source of magic.
There are only two important deities: the god and the goddess.
All goddesses represent the divine mother archetype, all gods represent the divine father archetype.
Feminine energies are soft and nurturing, masculine entities are aggressive and bold.
Masculine energies are too strong in the world, and are the reason for imperialism, violence, etc. The imbalance can be corrected by focusing on feminine energies.
So yeah, always watch out for claims like this because they don’t come from a good place.

If we “make ourselves sick” with the ✨power of our thoughts✨, then why do covid-deniers die when they don’t believe covid is real/that they’re sick? Paging all gaslightworkers who use toxic spirituality as an excuse to shut off empathy and blame disabled people for their pain.

SUNDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO: “There Will Never Be Any Peace (Until God Sits at the Conference Table)” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vhi79SjPjzE   With all the events going on lately, it felt like time to go into my old songbooks and make a fresh version of this song, written by Eugene Record of The Chi-Lites. Eugene wrote their evergreen hits “Have You Seen Her?” and “Oh Girl,” and his songs have been covered by Beyoncé, Blind Boys of Alabama, Hall & Oates, Paul Young and others. Eugene’s timeless composition “There Will Never Be Any Peace Until God Sits at the Conference Table” (also titled “...Until God is Seated…”) was written during the turbulent Vietnam War era. I was introduced to the song by my friend, British singer-songwriter Steve Lambert (of the band Roman Holliday). Steve insisted I listen to Nick Lowe’s intimate remake of Eugene’s spiritual song, which inspired me to add it to my set. Thanks for listening, and I pray for peace at your conference table. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vhi79SjPjzE

The Difficulty is the Point
“The difficulty is the point…. Sometimes we need the difficulty to get us to slow down and look at ourselves.” James K.A. Smith (How to Inhabit Time, xv) Right now, parenting has me at something of an impasse. One of my children (who will remain nameless) is struggling to routinely accomplish a normal, everyday task. We have coached them through this task, helped show them how it’s done, offered…

Bat-Blind and Chosen
Today, I have an assortment of random thoughts and quotes that resonate deeply. While I am infinitesimally small, God has chosen me. As the Psalmist said, “what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?” (Psalm 8:4) Eugene Peterson uses a phrase in his book, Leap Over a Wall, that resonates tonight …  “in my insignificant, sheep-keeping…
