#spn bible studies
Text
guy who so desperately tries to find god. who wants to have faith in a higher authority to guide him out of the hole he's in. from the weight of guilt from simply existing, as the person he is. but every time he thinks he's answered his higher calling it turns out he's made the Morally Incorrect choice and his path to goodness and holiness was the road to the devil all along

happy wincest wednesday suzy!
what's the fic that converted you to wincest? not necessarily the first you remember reading, but the first that impressed you and stayed with you all these years?
happy wincest wednesday vicky😙
This is an easy one for me. It's Howl by Paxlux. it's one of the first fics i read and I couldn't stop once I started, the came-back-from-hell-wrong psychotic only-eyes-for-each-other murder-fire-gasoline-sex-horror-filled roadtrip written like a poetic acid trip got under my skin and didn't leave me alone. I even made a shitty fanmix for it. I haven't read it since, which is like a decade ago, so I have to confess I have no idea what I'd think of it now, but I can safely say I consider Paxlux in general to be my wincest bible that shaped how I see their relationship.
What I love most is that Paxlux ALWAYS writes them as brothers first. There's so much pranking and bickering and just... all those things siblings do and it feels so natural. their dynamic feels so real, THEY ARE FRIENDS, and they find each other so fucking annoying, and they love each other, and they stand on such equal footing with each other (there's NONE of that sam-is-this so dean has to be the opposite-of-that, god bless). and yeah, they fuck. but they are BROTHERS. and they are OBSESSED with each other. This is a world-of-two with all its pros and cons❤️ and i’m in love with it
like. I’m not kidding. When they say shit like this i feel like eating my whole arm:
“As if they’re a weird Frankenstein experiment, an anatomical study gone wrong, bodies smashed together into one and Sam can’t see anything else without seeing Dean.”
“Sam’s forever the supernova of Dean’s galaxy, exploding and dragging Dean into his destruction, into their shared oblivion, then they do it all over again, and Dean needs Sam to keep creating him and destroying him“
"The thing is, Dean drives Sam insane even on a good day. He is, whatever, fill-in-the-blank, and that’s enough to push Sam over the edge most of the time, the absolute propulsion of Dean’s existence, it blows through Sam like a jet engine."
“Sam laughed, finally looking at his brother, Dean lit by the dashboard and the heavy-rising moon, Dean lit as he talked, smiling and tapping the wheel, Dean so alive in a car and happy, Sam liked to get him like this too when they were standing still, his brother larger than life and the best of the best, his eyes with their shine only for Sam, the way he looked at Sam and how he believed he was conning people into thinking he was holy, charmed, born under a lucky star, but Sam got that his brother was absolutely those things, especially when he looked like this, limned with these lights and shadows and Sam wanted to see him again in the daytime because he got all of Dean, this nighttime version and the daylight one who made Sam smile without realizing it, his brother in any old jalopy, soon-to-be in their very own tried-and-true black treasure of a car, devouring the country, one road at a time, and Sam was his willing accomplice, at his bidding.”  (how is that ONE sentence!!!)
Plus i LOVEEE how they’re almost ALWAYS on the road, those fics are so old and the early seasons vibes are so great in it.
And all their fics are brilliant? Criminals-AU? On the road between hunts? Sad Stanford era Dean? Girl!Dean? Girl!Sam? They’re both girls? Even this de-aged oh no they’re kids again fic is cute? Help, going through these bookmarks makes me realize I haven’t even read half their fics yet.
I should definitely re-read. Paxlux shaped wincest for me, and while I changed a LOT of my opinions on spn and how I see their relationship since then, this is wincest to me in it’s bare essentials💞.

I believe I don't have anything interesting to say about spn because pretty much everything I'd to say has been explained in better terms, prettier or funnier words or it's been said a million times.
BUT I could talk at length about the angels and how much spn implied about them with their writing.
The idea that most angels acted like they don't owned anything to humanity just make me think about those Bible passages where the chosen ones by God go to face him in name of humanity.
Like Job and Moses, for example. It was supposed to be a kind of contract: you are our God, we own you as much as you own us, so you must answer to what you promised us too.
It's not surprise that Dean, the righteous man, the chosen one, got an angel to fall for him by doing exactly like Job and Moses did back in the day: facing heaven in the name of humanity.
If you study each angel from supernatural closely, it's easy to see how the narrative hides what they truly are. We could even pretend it was Chuck trying to keep the leash on them, forcing the idea that angels didn't care, were emotionless, barely messengers or soldiers.
There's so much to unpack there.

Something about the way in which Cas gives Dean a speech which brings him the knowledge of the character of his own self which then in turn shapes a new Dean Winchester, no longer the ultimate killer, rather the ultimate savior of humanity
Something about how all that mirrors the biblical Annunciation where archangel Gabriel makes the virgin Mary realize her true possible role in history and which leads to the birth of Jesus Christ, the ultimate savior of humanity

I’m going feral over Sam constantly striving for a holiness he was never destined for, was doomed from birth to fall short, fall into the darkness AND Dean who had holiness forced upon him, this man who knows he is dark held up as the ultimate force of righteousness good. Both brothers chafing at and fulfilling these expectations in turn and neither being able to shake the stains of hell.

angelic grace as PURE CREATION drives me absolutely bonkers because!! one of my favorite theses about supernatural is that God/Chuck is NOT actually omnipresent omniscient omnipotent etc etc. But he WANTS you to think that. And also that he is NOT the only source of creation/divinity; again he WANTS you to think that, it serves his purpose to think that. At best, he’s managed to harness the power of pure creation, and even take in some of it for himself so that he may dole it out as he pleases, but he isn’t the SOURCE of it.
Examples include: the very act of creation itself. Chuck may style himself The Creator - and indeed he may have had a hand in harnessing the power of creation to form the Earth and its inhabitants - but clearly he formed it more akin to an AI environment which does also run itself, vs a system where he’s manually inputting every single choice. I think there was that one ep where he talked about nature as a force that he created but acts in ways that are, like, outside of his imagination? And also part of my thesis is how humans also have the power of creation. Within the “classical” structure - angels don’t have the power of creation bc they were created as extensions of God’s will. But humans - in conceiving of themselves (existential self-concept) they create themselves. And they’re also capable of creation - imagination, procreation, engineering, etc.
(Other examples are Death, who is as old as or even older than God. criminally underutilized concept of how in the end Death will reap God too. + in my thesis, love is another one. Chuck or heaven may be able to manipulate humans on earth together, but my thesis is that whatever controls soulmateism (i.e. sharing a heaven) is a force outside of Chuck’s immediate control; he can try to manipulate the people together until they become people who will share heavens, but he can’t actually Determine who shares a heaven or not; that (”True” Love or whatever you want to call it) is a force outside of Chuck’s control, and mostly the angels don’t care bc it doesn’t matter to them if people share a heaven or not)
But also in my thesis about the “reclamation of the Divine” is that... angels ARE capable of “human things” - feelings, love, loyalty, all that jazz. Free will, autonomy, imagination. They’re conditioned not to, and are propagandized into thinking that they have no Self, unlike humans, but clearly they DO; they’re just not given the tools to deal with it bc any kind of Feeling is trained (reconditioned) out of them.
I was going around and around on what exactly grace is, and the line about grace being pure creation when it touches down, but like iveconnectedthetwodots.jpg what if that’s true. What if angels ARE essences of “pure creation.” Whatever sort of primordial force that Chuck harnessed and swallowed within himself to Create the world, that’s what angels are made of. He forced each individual ball of energy into the shape of angels, but at their core they ARE primordial forces, as old as or maybe even older than God. And it takes a lot of work to work them into the shape he wants them into, but shape them he does, like a potter working clay. But like with clay... sometimes certain pots just don’t turn out the way you want. Sometimes the clay seems like it has a mind of its own, and defies your will. Sometimes it refuses to shape to your will, and instead reverts to the form it knows and likes best.
Maybe angels ARE harnessed “pure creation,” and most will stick to form, but. maybe they, too, are a force as old as or older than God. And maybe like Death, one day God will no longer be able to contain them within his and only his vision. Maybe they will sublimate back to their truest form and not the soldiers of God they were made into.

Some Morons: “Lol, they made god evil II bet you religious people can't stand that, This totally pwns what you believe. I can enjoy this but must be sooo mad.”
Me: “Lol, so can I. Because I can separate fiction from my actual belief system and I’m secure enough in those beliefs to be able to see the differences and talk about them if you actually cared. You’re just being an insufferable edgelord.”
Some Morons: “...”
Me: “It’s a show... Only ridiculous controlling and sometimes authoritarian people can’t stand portions of concepts of they’re beliefs being questioned in fiction, and no not every one of an Abrahamic faith is like that. And only ignorant people would make bold assumptions about other people’s beliefs solely based on that fiction... I find it interesting and challenging to watch fiction that challenges what I believe on some level because it makes me look at what I think critically. But largely I want to enjoy the ride of a fantasy show I’ve liked for years so maybe stop making the fandom a toxic place for religious fans by insisting you know crap you don’t?
