oh my god. i was re-watching season 2 episode four because season 2 episode four my beloved, and found another symbolic relationship angle akin to the inn talks:
what stede says: then you…shaved your beard off…for me and…
what stede means: i was already panicking about the speed in which our relationship was going, what with everything i was having to work through, but then you stripped away a pivotal part of your identity for me. and it terrified me. i was already convinced that i’m the type of person to mess things up, and then i caused blackbeard to get rid of his namesake. i stripped him of his identifying element. it wasn’t me prioritizing or preferring that persona, but rather, i was terrified of that hurting you. i was terrified you would be upset or suffer for me, because of me.
what ed says: again with the beard. sorry if my horrible, naked chin disgusts you so.
what ed means: sorry if the person behind blackbeard’s mask is unbearable. sorry if you only find that legend and persona attractive, and not the softer man behind it. sorry if my actual personality and self are so undesirable like everyone says they are.
what stede says: i love your chin, naked or otherwise.
what stede means: i love you. no matter who you want to be, no matter who you wish to present as, i love you. ed, blackbeard, or otherwise. it’s not about just the beard. it was never about just the beard. it was always just about you.

Collecting Milkweed Seeds - All Facts, All Seeds, No Fluff
(OK but please also consider I'm not an ~expert~ I'm not a ~scholar~ I'm just a nerd on Tumblr who really likes milkweed and wanted to make a fun lil post about it)
Tumblr media
[Image ID: a green, leafy common milkweed plant (Asclepias syriaca) with five large, ovalish and bumpy green seed pods. The seed pods are currently unopened.]
It’s fall, which means if you haven’t seen them already, now’s the time that milkweed plants will start producing seed pods! (Well, technically, they’re called follicles, but fuck it they’re seed pods).  Each pod has dozens of seeds inside, some species can even have up to 200 seeds, so even collecting just a few can be a good way to boost your pollinator gardening efforts big time! What you do with them then is up to you--adding life to your backyard garden, sharing with friends, making seed bombs--but first you’ve gotta collect them.
The first thing you want to do is identify your milkweed plants--in an ideal world, you’d be able to tell precisely what kind of milkweed you’re collecting from (so you can know precisely what growing conditions that species prefers.) But when they’re dying back, forming pods, and releasing their seeds, it can be hard to tell. It helps to visit sites early, to know what milkweeds are there, and while you’re there you might even find some forming pods.
It can be helpful to band off the pods early! This will keep the seeds from escaping, so you can come back later and collect them! I would only do this for a couple of pods--each pod has a lot of seed in it, so only taking one or two from each plant should still net you plenty of rewards! When I’m doing this in my backyard, I tend to use rubber bands--the size of rubber band you’ll need varies depending on the species. I’ve also seen people use the lacy-looking jewelry bags to a similar effect--if the pod splits open, all the seeds get trapped in the bag!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image ID: the first image is of appears to be swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) with about fifteen long, green, smooth and pointed seed pods. Most of the pods have small black rubber bands wrapped around the midsections. The second image is of what appears to be common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) with two large, ovalish and bumpy green seed pods. A white fine mesh bag has been tied over the pods.]
For people who want to get seeds from unopened pods, you have to be very careful not to force open a pod that isn’t ready--otherwise, the seeds inside won’t fully develop. How do you tell if a pod is ripe? There’s a seam in each pod, and it should open fairly easily with minimal pressure if it’s basically ready. If you’re basically prying it open, you’re too early. The seeds inside should be a nice dark color, and be plump in the middle--if they’re creamy colored or light orange, you’re too early. There may be some undeveloped seeds in each pod (I am talking maybe 1 to 3 here), but if the majority of them are ready, you’re good to go!
Tumblr media
[Image ID: a tropical milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) seed pod that has been opened at the seam, revealing dark brown seeds and lots of creamy white floss. Four seeds are floating away from the pod on fluffy white comas. The pod is being held between a white person's fingers.]
I’ve also seen people who go late late late into the season, after most of the pods have already fully split off and released their seeds. Some of the seeds occasionally stay in the pod, so they’ll take the leftovers that didn’t get scattered after winter passes. That’s a fair strategy! I prefer to get mine way early on, so I can get a clear ID of what kind of milkweed it is (some will flower and produce pods at the same time), but if you already got an ID early in the season and then come back later this can also work! But…
Tumblr media
[Image ID: several dried brown seed pods have opened fully, releasing a cloud of milkweed floss with seeds attached. Some seeds are still in the pods, but many are primed to float away.]
There is, however, one thing that tends to be a bit annoying about collecting milkweed seeds--and that’s the fluff. These fluffy white bits attached to the seed--called comas--function similarly to the iconic fluffy dandelion seed. A milkweed seed’s coma allows it to float through the air and on the water until it (hypothetically) reaches bare soil or an otherwise suitable start to settle down and germinate. If you’re collecting the seeds for later use, though, that same coma can mean your milkweed seeds are traveling through the air and away from where you’re collecting them, or all over your apartment once you get them home. Removing the comas by hand is an option, but tedious, and still leads to a nice pile of fluffy that will get airborne at the first gust of wind. At the end of the day, for many people trying to collect milkweed seeds, the coma is just an annoying part they dread.
Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to collect milkweed seeds without having to deal with the comas long-term!
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A single brown milkweed seed floating on a comparatively huge mess of white fibers.]
Method 1
So this is my favorite method because it's honestly one of the simplest and easiest once you get used to it. You open the pod, grip the top part of the middle ‘pith’ section tight, and gently scrape off the seeds into a bowl or bag. This leaves you with almost no fluff in your collection bin, and you can then toss the middle fluffy part--or I’ve heard of people collecting milkweed fluff for spinning! Most of the videos I’ve seen on it use common milkweed or other large milkweed pods as an example--however, I’ve successfully done this with smaller milkweed pods like A. curassavica as well.
youtube
Method 2
This method is one I’ve used in the past. Take the seeds and fluff and put them into a bag (paper or plastic) and add a coin or two. Shake the bag around--a lot. The coin will dislodge the comas from the seeds. The seeds will then drop to the bottom of the container, and the fluff will float around on the top. I’ve also seen this with buckets and blocks, like in the video below!
Method 3
I’ve seen a handful of people discuss burning the floss of the seeds! Apparently the seeds themselves aren’t damaged badly by the fire, though honestly this is a method that I am simply too anxious to try myself.
youtube
Method 4
This was a method I found while I was looking for other methods people have done. Apparently, you can just roll the pod between your hands and it’ll work to dislodge the seeds? I may have to try it next time!
youtube
Hopefully this advice is helpful for you all! I know collecting seeds was a hassle for me before I learned my favorite method. If I had a nickel for every time I got yelled at for releasing milkweed fluff into the house...
If you've got a method that I haven't heard about yet, let me know!! I'm always down to learn more about milkweed, and it can also help someone else down the line!

I just had a thought about an AU for TotK that involve the fates of Sonia and Rauru, and how it could impact the game at large.
Tumblr media
Spoilers below the cut:
Imagine an AU where it's Rauru who is murdered by Ganondorf instead of Sonia in Memory 9. Instead of Sonia's stone, it's Rauru's he claims as his own.
Sonia and Zelda would be the ones to escape with Rauru's body instead, and events would continue to play out as normal for the most part, though Zelda tells Sonia, rather than Rauru, about how Ganondorf would only be sealed and not defeated.
Everything else continues similarly up until the final confrontation with Ganondorf in the sealing chamber. At that point, Sonia would assume a similar role to Rauru, where she'd lead the sages against him in their fight. The end result would be the same: they'd have to seal him rather than defeat him. But this time, it takes a different form.
This time, Sonia uses a different time power: one that freezes time entirely within the chamber. In a manner similar to Rauru she'll bind herself into this effect to ensure that she can hold the time-freeze, keeping herself and the demon king bound for millennia to come.
If one would ask about the existence of such a power, I feel that Sonia is likely capable of far more than just the recall power. The Secret Stones amplify all users' abilities within a specific domain (i.e. time, water, light, etc.). And it's demonstrated that the time power can be used in more than just a static reversal of a particular object. It can send objects through time, as seen with the Master Sword. While similar, it is different, and leaves the doors open for a multitude of different applications of time powers.
Of course, the application of such a power over so long to hold a being so powerful as The Demon King Ganondorf would be immensely taxing. It would perhaps be a stroke of brilliance on her part to seal herself in the time stop spell along with Ganondorf, as it would help to preserve her over the ages to ensure the spell holds for as long as it did. Sonia has been shown to be exceedingly clever, and this feels like something she could easily dream up.
But everything has limits: Sonia's power included.
So when Link and Zelda arrive, instead of an arm holding an emaciated Ganondorf at bay, they find two beings linked in a strange bubble of space devoid of colour. Leaking ever so slowly, the only thing in colour in the whole room, is the steady ooze of red gloom from Ganondorf's body, evidence of the weakening of Sonia's spell against Ganondorf's immense power and will. Also, there is the barely visible sparkle of green at the far end of the room that Link and Zelda both miss with this sight in front of them.
Otherwise still frozen in time, Sonia has just enough awareness to recognize the presence of Zelda and her own powers approaching. She knows from their conversations that she'll be bringing Link with him, and believes that this is when she can finally release the spell that's put her under tremendous strain.
She does, only to realize that this Link and Zelda are not ready to face the demon king as he immediately resumes his fury in full form, not having decayed over the ages as he did in proper canon. The sword is destroyed just as it was before, and Zelda falls once Ganondorf unleashes his magic to collapse the room and thrust the castle upward.
Sonia knows that Zelda must travel to the past, as she's witnessed it already, and she rips her stone from her neck and throws it to Zelda as the young woman plummets, while Link goes after her without hesitation as he did in canon.
Zelda catches the stone, and winks back into the past, while Link is caught in a strange spell that reverses him back to where he jumped. It's Sonia who saves his life in this version of events... mostly.
The last vestiges of the sealing chamber's floor collapse as Sonia casting the recall spell, and she begins to fall. Link catches her, but he begins to fall again as the recall spell ends. That is, until a strange green glow descends upon them. A strange green arm wrests them from their fate and pulls them away from the sealing chamber and into the sky where the game's adventure would begin properly with Link being armless, but Sonia present as his guide and companion. She helps him gain the powers of the Great Sky Island until they're greeted by a face familiar to Sonia.
Rauru appears to them and has a touching reunion with Sonia after all these years. He'll tell her that he's kept a vigil over her as she kept the Demon King locked away, trying to bolster her power with his own as much as he could.
Link will find that he can't use the Zonai powers as effectively as Sonia recalls them being used in the past. Rauru's reveals to them that Link needs a conduit to invoke them properly, and guides them to his grave in the Forgotten Temple where he grants Link his preserved arm.
It's at this point that the world becomes far more dangerous, as Ganondorf has returned having lost far less of his power due to having been preserved, mostly, by the time stop spell compared to how he'd degraded in canon. Sonia, drained of her power completely from her efforts, and now without her Secret Stone, is the pseudo-guide/companion for Link during the remainder of the game, with one of her main roles being to help to help direct Link to the dragons' tears to learn the fate of Zelda, since Zelda remained active in the past after Sonia imprisoned Ganondorf with the time-freeze.
And of course, we'll get to see her heart break when she learns of Zelda's draconification, a sacrifice of the highest order.
And you could most certainly return to Rauru's tomb on the Great Sky Island to see or even promote further interactions between Rauru's spirit and Sonia, now ripped from her own time as much as Zelda has been from hers. This will include dialogue that changes as Link progresses through the game, including discussions on how to find a way to try and bring Zelda back from her draconic form.
Of course, Ganondorf won't get as much mileage out of his puppet Zelda going around Hyrule to cause trouble with Sonia around, but Ganondorf still believes it to be a lure for Sonia to come to Hyrule Castle once he triggers puppet Zelda's appearance there. Sonia sends Link in her stead with the new sages, seeing it as an obvious trap for her. She does worry for Link, knowing the depth of his feelings for Zelda.
After a heartfelt reunion between Mineru and Sonia, the pair glad they're not the only beings stranded in a time far from their own, the game proceeds towards its conclusion as normal.
If Link was able to find all the memories from the dragon's tears and trigger dialogue between Rauru and Sonia (and maybe even a side mission to delve into some ruins in The Depths for research to give more hints of what they have in mind), the ending of the game will play out much as it does in canon, but this time with a living Sonia and spiritual Rauru helping to bring Zelda back to her original form.
If not, Zelda will remain a dragon at the end of the game.
In the ending where Zelda is returned to her Hylian form, Sonia ends up giving a bittersweet farewell to both Rauru and Mineru's spirits, and acts as a mother towards Zelda for the remainder of their days as they all rebuild Hyrule.
In the ending where Zelda remains a dragon, she has that same farewell, though she regrets never finding out how they could return Zelda to her original form. She lives out her days trying to help bring Zelda's dream of rebuilding Hyrule to fruition. Sadly, it's still something of a lonely life in her off-hours, with no family and with only semi-regular visits from Link, who is similarly distraught from Zelda's continued fate.

Ok, but like, can we normalize not hugging kids just cuz you know their parents?
I just had some random man I don't know try to hug me out of no where. Then when I gave him the side eye, like, "Who the hell do you think you are?" He says, "Oh, well I know you don't know me, but I know you guys." refering to my family.
It made me extremely uncomfortable, and I didn't say anything because I don't like confrontation.
Don't hug someone who doesn't know you. They might not be comfortable with it, and it's weird.

On the ground floor of the Gala
Willow, just before departing a chat with Cinder and Ruby: Oh, would you two give me one moment? Mister Inceeus, a word?
Ruby, sighing happily before turning fully to Cinder: These Galas just keep getting longer, huh?
Cinder, smiling with a sigh: One more hour, Red.
Cinder, smirk growing, with a point to the second floor: Oh, look at that
Ruby, following Cinder’s prompt to see both Winter and Weiss with stupid smiles leaning over the veranda staring down at them: Aww, they look so pretty!!
Cinder, raising a glass in salute to the pair, as Ruby waves:
Winter and Weiss, their smiles flat lining as they become brilliantly flushed red:
Ruby: Aww they’re embarrassed
Cinder: Tsk tsk, smitten little fools

ive done some spinning with milkweed fluff!! it stayed together but i had to keep it super wet to do the actual spinning. i made it into a little square and its so soft and fluffy!! but yes its very difficult to spin as the fibres are very short [i spin with a top whorl drop spindle]
Oooh, cool! Honestly I feel you're not the first person I've heard of on Tumblr spinning milkweed fluff, which makes it feel all the more wild that most online sites that mention it say its impossible???? Wild.
Out of curiosity, asides from the square, what would you find spun milkweed useful for making? I ask this not as someone who's ever spun thread or someone interested in taking it up, just as a curious passerby lol.

title: 'as you wish'
rating: PG, ironically enough.
word count: 300 words. drabble.
warnings: murderous intent, talking about icing someone, implied rocky relationship with a parent.
pairing: delruk 'ellie' nulle/wil.huff tar.kin
summary: Delruk frets, but Tar.kin helps.
notes: delruk uses he/her pronouns, like me :^).
-
Pacing back and forth in front of Tar.kin's desk, Delruk wrings her hands.
"I don't want to have to see her ever, ever again," he says, "I can't bear it."
Tar.kin glances up from his datapad.
"Then don't," Wil.huff says, setting the datapad down.
Delruk turns to meet his glimmering, piercing gaze. There is a hint of a smile behind those eyes and this slight upturning of his lips, like a sneer, and Delruk's heart skips what must be the millionth beat this evening. Her stomach twists as he realizes Tar.kin's implication.
"You'd, uh," Delruk stutters, beginning to grin, "have her, have my mother taken out, sir?"
Wil.huff’s eyes widen and he chuckles softly.
“You’re excited by that prospect.” he says very matter-of-factly.
Delruk starts and presses her hands to the desk, gripping the edges.
“Yes, very much, obviously,” Delruk says.
Leaning forward, Wil.huff places his hands over Delruk’s, nearly eclipsing them. Such big, cold hands with such long, sinuous fingers...
“Well, I wasn’t planning on doing that, but,” Tar.kin says, amused, looking up into her eyes, “I always could, if you wish. Instead, I was planning on telling her you’re sick and simply can’t muster the strength to go. Something to that effect.”
Laughing nervously, Delruk lifts one of Tar.kin’s hands to her lips and presses a soft kiss to it.
“I, uh, wish,” he hesitates, gauging Tar.kin’s reaction. “Um. You know. I do wish that.”
“Anything, as you wish.” Wil.huff caresses her cheek, leaning forward further to kiss her sweet little lips.
Delruk breaks away and crawls up on the desk, dangling her legs in front of Tar.kin. Tar.kin places his hands over her knees.
“You’d take care of her for me?” Delruk asks.
“I’ll take care of everything for you, silly boy.” Tar.kin affectionately pats her knees.

@deiscension said: holding a mic out for the commentary you mentioned in the tags of your last reblog
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You are opening a can of worms. A bucket in fact. But i shall take them and go fishing and chatter away to the wind. ( And break it down muse wise so ppl can skip muses they don't care about. )
POST IN QUESTION.
So by FAR, those who relate to that the strongest are Lamia, Ling Wen, and Seiroku
He Xuan and Earl are more middle
Izana is the least but not for the reasons you might think. And as a bonus I'll mention Sekhmet bc she's interesting for why she ISN'T despite being vengeful.
I'll put this under a read more because this is turning out very long, way longer than I anticipated.
Tumblr media
LAMIA does NOT forgive. She is the epitome of resent and remember if you've done wrong to her. She WILL hate you and she WILL enjoy your suffering. In fact, she probably purposefully has made your suffering worse. Go to hell might be too nice of a way out. Why not suffer here and THEN go suffer in hell for all eternity? She'll make sure she makes you suffer more when she gets to hell too. ( She's under no illusion she'd end up anywhere else if there is an afterlife. )
LING WEN also is very vindictive. It's beating a point to a pulp but we SAW what she did with annihilating Jing Wen's existence. ( And with help from Pei Ming in the process of destroying + her terrorizing his followers. ) Ling Wen.....does not forgive. Granted, those around her never would apologize. Not really. Pei Ming and Shi Wudu are probably the only exceptions and SOLELY because she knows if they did something, it was not on purpose and their apology would be sincere. Anyone else though?? Absolutely not. They can go through the agonies of feeling their very souls destroyed and she will sit with a cold, uncaring expression even if she does greatly enjoy seeing those who've wronged her or made her suffer now suffering.
AT THE SAME TIME !! Ling Wen has a hard time with herself after book 5 (or 8 or whatever the official is listen i follow the pre-official release versions okay) but when she essentially keeps her job because......literally no one else can run the Heavenly Realm and all the paperwork and such. Truly success is a burden. But in all seriousness, especially with Pei Ming......his forgiveness to her is a bitter pill. She never wanted HIM to suffer, she even invited him to their side in the final battle just to ensure he'd be safe. He forgives her and moves past it, but I think Ling Wen has a hard time. She never hurt him, she never wanted to hurt him, but being on opposing sides was hard. Mercy & Forgiveness can be HARD to swallow. ( Tbh i can ramble forever about this but i think this makes my point. Her rejection of forgiveness also is a sword over her own head. )
SEIROKU is interesting because in general, this only applies to Bushi. He can never forgive the Bushi as a whole, as a group. A lot of this comes from his personal experience, and it cemented itself as a core part of his personality. Especially after he died and his heart was replaced with the Black Hearts that amplify desires ; his is revenge and death to all Bushi. As a whole, Seiroku will always hate Bushi. The Date clan is the EXCEPTION, not the rule. When it comes to someone who isn't a Bushi though, Seiroku can be forgiving. He's not often in a situation where he needs to, but anyone else - a farmer, a seamstress, whoever, he is more inclined to forgive. So Brittney, why is he on the strongest? Because Seiroku's held this hatred and unforgiving attitude to the Bushi for over 100 years now. He WON'T let it go, at this point, he CAN'T let that intense hatred go.
Tumblr media
HE XUAN is in the middle because if you are important to him, he can forgive. He might remember, he might put distance, but he CAN forgive. Especially when he cares about you. It might take time, he needs to think about it and mull it over, and the person needs to put in effort to show they genuinely are apologetic and deserve his forgiveness. His forgiveness comes in incriments. The potential is there. But he DOES lean heavily towards strongly relating.
He Xuan cannot forgive the crimes against him, his family, his fiancée. All who suffered not because of their fortune, not because THEY did anything wrong, but because HE XUAN'S fate was stolen. And their fates were tied with his. In truth? This is one of the most painful and intense sources of pain from He Xuan. He could have endured prison, an agonizing death, being broke, he could have endured countless sufferings. He might have been angry, but he wouldn't have been as powerful of a ghost as he ended up becoming. But BECAUSE the fact is that all of the people he loved suffered EXCRUCIATING fates because of his fate being stolen, his anger grew into something extremely intense. It didn't JUST effect him. It affected the people he cared about most. He became entirely hellbent on revenge despite having no clues for a long time. He can never forgive Shi Wudu.
And I think a part of him will always resent Shi Qingxuan. Despite it not being SQX's fault, there's a bitterness because, theoretically, had SQX's family listened, SWD and SQX would have still lived good lives because of family wealth. He Xuan was born into extreme poverty even BEFORE the fate switching. And it's not SQX fault but how can he not suffer and subconsciously resent knowing this person having HIS fate is why those he's loved perished in horrible ways? That SQX gets to laugh and enjoy life while blissfully unaware none of it is deserved? He genuinely does intend to never cross paths again if he can help it by the end.
EARL also is heavily towards the strongly agreeing side. He is a very distrustful person as it is, everyone around him knows it. It's important; his wariness and distrust has helped keep Legion powerful and ahead of all the other gangs and groups. He's always steps ahead of everyone else for this very reason. He gives his trust to very few. And if he gives it and you break it? It's over. He will not give it again. Earl may trust in someone's SKILL or an ABILITY or TALENT, but he will not trust THEM as a person. Go to hell indeed, he's never letting them close.
There are very few exceptions to this. Horo and Zoya are primarily the only two that he could change this. Because ultimately, he cares for them more than most other things. Horo is, genuinely, what Earl cares about above all else. Above Legion, above Zoya, he might not seem like it and people might never guess it, but Earl would do anything for his little sister. He really is a good big brother like that. If she did something....Earl could forgive her. He might be upset, but he could and would forgive. And the same goes for Zoya. He is more likely to express his anger or displeasure, but there's very few things she could do that would make him not be able to forgive her. Anyone else would be very heavily dynamic dependent. Earl can trust and care a lot, but he can also turn cold and abandon it if the trust break truly is something severe. ( Something silly however he might be annoyed but not care about. He WILL remember it though if you try to prank him. Few have ever succeeded. )
Tumblr media
IZANA KUROKAWA is the least in agreement with this, but not for the reasons you think. Simply put? Izana doesn't trust people to begin with. There are VERY, VERY, VERY few people he genuinely trusts, and even that can fluctuate with how stable his mental state it. I would say MAYBE two at most are who he trusts. So if you fuck up? It's over. Izana will ANNIHILATE you - there won't be anything left to grant forgiveness to. Izana genuinely has no comprehension for people's limits. At 12 he hurt people so bad they were permanently disabled - kids and adults - as revenge. Not to mention what Izana drove the ringleader of the group that attacked him to do. He'll send you to hell personally. He's the least in agreement solely because you wouldn't be around TO be forgiven. He doesn't want you around and no one is going to disobey him.
SEKHMET is the most interesting to me tbh. Because as a goddess, if you piss her off, she WILL curse your entire bloodline for the entire length of its existence. Changing names doesn't change your blood, it will follow you and she will make sure the curse is effective thousands of years later. She's a VERY vengeful goddess if you earn her wrath. You will pray for oblivion because everything truly will be suffering.
But Brittney, then why is she not included?
For the same reason: Because she's a goddess. If you give enough quality offerings to her, if you do great feats in her honor or attribute them to her, if you celebrate immensely, beg and plead and praise her above others - she will forgive you. Maybe not YOU, but she will remove the curse from the rest of your bloodline, so your children and grandchildren and so on will not suffer because of you. THAT is mercy from a god. If you TRULY dedicate everything to her, if you are skilled enough, she might remove a curse from you herself, turn you into a champion for her and ensure glory to you and her name. This is mercy from a god. Sekhmet's wrath is on a WHOLE different level from humans or even from someone like He Xuan's wrath, but she ultimately can be appeased and grant a god's definition of forgiveness. Remember; she is a goddess. A god and a mortal's definition of forgiveness may not be the same, but it is still forgiveness.

thinking about how idyllic the village of Alderhill is portrayed as in both Cillian and the Ronans' eyes. For the Ronans its the antithesis to a place that was never their home and they couldn't wait to escape. The Village is a spot they would vacation to in the summers of their youth. For all appearances, it's just a nice, quiet getaway from everything that ever troubled them (except themselves). Blissfully unaware of its real history and their grandmother's direct involvement with it.
To Cillian, it's something others have told him is (in the post-war social landscape at least) a bit of a taboo, dangerous place that he instead finds charming and harmless once he sees it for himself. The faction that made it so harrowing for the Hill-folk dissipated, and along with it, well known contempt for his kind. It's a little piece of rebellion he holds dear, and now that he's cut off from it for the time being, the grass on the other side only looks greener. But really, the main draw is the potential companions he could harvest from its grounds. It's a place of possibility.
In reality it's just another place. A peaceful one in present, a tapestry of people and their stories, lives, daily hustle and bustle. I'm sure you could find parts of it that are truly rotten if you dug deep enough, but the rose tinted glasses stay on for now.

I drew Aurealis again :) (This time, they are around 24 years old instead of 15). He’s a florist and his favourite flowers are orchids !)
