I don’t think enough people realize that Luke letting go after Vader’s proposal of “ruling the galaxy as father and son” wasn’t a simple matter of him being dramatic in his rejection. That is a despairing young man attempting suicide in the face of everything he knows being ripped out from under him. His entire, still nascent, worldview is completely shattered in this one moment. Let this sink in:
The greatest and most horrific war criminal in the Galaxy is his father.
